reading lobdell's writing is really confirming that I would take a thousand runs where jason is portrayed as the amoral incarnation of the devil even from age 12 over a single one where he's robbed of his intelligence and hypercompetence. any fucking day.

I finished reading RHATO v1 and RH/Arsenal. I might’ve enjoyed myself if it was my first book but as it is I was totally distracted and upset by the characterization and retcons. How do I get it out of my head?

Do you think DC comics is real life? Do you know how Writing works? I also never said anything about them making Jason a better character. I said they do nothing, meaning you can erase them from Jason’s character and nothing changes because they add nothing.

There was nothing interesting about DC Trinity, but call it dark for no reason. I also think you don’t know what forced means. Think the series claiming Jason and Tim are close out of nowhere. But hey, based on Your argument, there doesn’t need to be any basis or development because friendships happen off screen all the time. Who cares about writing what makes sense and development of characters. Comics are stupid

Your argument seems to be with another anon rather than me.

For Artemis and Bizarro, their relationship with Jason was formed very much on screen. And for my part, I think that they did wonders for giving Jason a sense of belonging and direction before they got knocked into another dimension and then Bizarro wound up killing Trigon and taking his place or something... Idk it was weird and the art was lackluster so I haven't reread that in a long time.

RHATO v2 and Red Hood: Outlaw to me were largely about Jason trying to find where he belonged, figure out how he fit into the world. I have ranted entire essays at friends in my discord about this as I try to make silk purses out of sow's ears.

I never mentioned anything about Tim and Jason's relationship or lack thereof, but since you brought it up- I don't mind them being buddies. I wish their reconciliation had happened on screen. But I can fill in some blanks on my own, as we all do.

And yes, comics are stupid. But I like them anyway!

Favourite childhood book: The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman <- yeah I'm just living that there lol.

Currently reading: "Investigating Lois Lane: The Turbulent History of the Daily Planet's Ace Reporter", a non-fiction book about the history of the character. Yeeah, I'm now reading non-fiction about detective comics comics, too... but I'm only a few chapters in and it's such an interesting historical perspective (even if the section about corporal punishment made me see fucking red).

I'm also still following a couple of newsletters, like Letters from Watson (Sherlock Holmes long novels) or Divine Comedy (which ends this month), rereading Camilla Andrew's "We Will Devour the Night" via her ko-fi (ditto), and of course, slowly reading a bunch of actual comics (Batgirl 2000, Green Arrow 2001, Outsiders 2003, RHATO v2/rebirth!Jason, or War Games, among others).

Currently watching: Superman: The Animated Series/the DCAU in order, plus the stacked100 rewatch. And I took a detour and rewatched some key scenes from Nikita, as one does.

Currently consuming: I made tuna pastries for dinner today.

Current craving: nothing after I got my tuna pastries.
