so, my family lost one of our dogs last week, he was a doberman with some heart issues so it wasn't necessarily unexpected, but my parents (and me honestly, tho i don't live with my parents) took it really hard and missed having a big stupid dog around (their other dog is a deeply neurotic border collie, we love her but her vibes are............ different)
anyway turns out an overcrowded rescue had just picked up a dog due to be euthanized in a week from a shelter in new york and of course my parents took him. anyway this is scooby. his ears make me feel insane. i don't get to meet him until july and im so mad about it

A nose black as coal and cold as marble shoves itself into the person’s face. A breath hot enough to leave a bloom of steam in the air, despite the hot summer air surrounding the trio, escapes the nose as it sniffs the person. Red eyes watch the person suspiciously from beneath darkened rock formations that cover the dog like creature. A few spots of golden hair peek out beneath the black rock formation suggesting a further dog like appearance underneath the armor of stone. However any movement to further investigate is met with a low whine threatening to turn to a growl that echoes through the mind.
Tumblr media
Sawyer gets to their knees which puts them to the same height as the creature and gently wraps their arms around the creatures neck hugging it. Immediately the creature sits, turning from a growl to a tail wag that makes a loud smacking noise as hard stone slaps against the ground.
“Don’t mind Dolly.” Sawyer explains glancing up to the person Dolly was just threatening. “She’s kind of a scardy cat. But she’s a sweetie once you get to know her.”

Can't get the idea of dog hybrid 141 out of my head, especially not dog!Soap.
☄. *.
I'm thinking a mutt, because it seems fitting for the little guy. Just based off of appearances and personality alone, I think a Rhodesian Ridgeback/ Belgian Malinois mix would suit him pretty damn good. (Ridgeback just because I know some of them have like a mohawk in their fur running down their back and I think I'm funny)
The Malinois because they're smaller than shepherds but louder and more energetic (in my experience anyways). And that feels like Soap to me, loud, energetic, but super smart and loyal as well.
I imagine like a werewolf type situation where he can change back and forth at will, except you aren't aware of his human side and he prefers to keep it that way. The attention you're giving what you think is a cute little pup from the sidewalk is absolutely unbridled to anything he could get in his human form.
He was likely just relaxing somewhere in a park, enjoying the attention and occasional pets he got from ladies passing by. When you came along and absolutely stole his attention entirely!!
He was smitten with you on first sight, going up to you and knocking his big head into the side of your leg as if to say "pet me!". Insisting on sticking his snoot in the palm of your hand with so much gusto, you questioned if you accidentally had some sort of food on you that he liked.
Acquainted himself with you freely, sticking his nose where it very much did not belong, as dogs tend to do. To which you shoved his head out from between your legs with an awkward laugh and a playful scolding. He just continued to look up at you with so much love in his eyes, you almost felt bad for leaving him behind.
You didn't see a collar or any indicators of tags on him, simply a happy little guy, wagging his tail and hanging around the parks. Although surely he couldn't just be a stray, you thought. He was far too friendly to be stray. Someone had to be looking for him, you would simply have to hope that whoever it was, found him.
He tried to get you to stay and play with him using absolutely every trick in the book. He even tried standing on your feet so you couldn't leave, but you didn't seem to like that one very much. He gently took your hand in his mouth, simply holding it there with his teeth as if to hold your hand and keep you with him. But, you had places to go and you simply couldn't take home some stray dog from the park, so you pulled your hand out of his slobbery mouth and went on your way...
Right after a few more pets on his soft fluffy head.

If the GoS theme this month wasn't a sign that I needed to get back to my Breeds For All Needs project I don't know what is!
Now for those of you who DON'T know what this is - essentially I wanted to remake all of the breeds from TS1-TS4. I also linked existing pet breeds by other creators when I found ones I liked. And then I got distracted and forgot about it.

Bungou Stray Dogs… As Dogs
Akutagawa, both of them are black standard poodles you cannot convince me otherwise.
Dazai = springer spaniel. Cause I used to have one (or at least that’s what grandpa said he was) and they literally look the same like. It’s the same picture. Plus he was just as annoying as Dazai
Oda is a Rhodesian ridgeback cause it’s just a really cool dog
Ango is a very anxious border collie
Mori is an ugly ancient chihuahua that will outlive the heat death of the universe you know the type
But Elise is a teacup yorkie cause I’ve never been more scared of a dog than every yorkie I’ve ever met they are EVIL
Kouyou is a Briard cause she’s literally perfect
Q, being a fucked up little creature, is obviously a Pekingese
Tachihara is the cutest pit mix ever I don’t make the rules.
Hirotsu is obviously a schnauzer
Kajii is a… hold on I’m copy pasting this cause I’m not trying to spell it… Xoloitzcuintli! They’re the hairless ones. I was gonna choose beagle but I don’t think that suits him other than being loud.
Chuuya is a Dachshund but not cause they’re short, because they have the most ungodly judgemental side eye and think they’re immortal
Atsushi is… a weird little mutt. The kind of dog to bite at the tires of police cars. Just a fucked up little creature. Untamable. But scared of a blow dryer.
Kunikida is a herding breed of some description. A cattle dog perhaps.
Ranpo is a spoiled rotten little shi tzu
Poe is a cocker spaniel
Lucy is a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever which is a fancy title for a breed I chose cause it’s red
Fitzgerald is a Azawakh which is a decently rare and expensive dog breed that also kind of looks like him? They’re very sleek and elegant, which was what made me choose it over the most expensive breeds cause they’re all fairly bulky.
Naomi is the world’s most annoying husky and Juni is the half German shepherd half golden retriever that begrudgingly puts up with her bullshit
This might seem out of left field but. Fukuzawa is absolutely a mastiff breed of some sort. Big gentle giant protector energy. Can’t you just picture him looming behind tiny shi tzu Ranpo?
Kenji is the most Labrador to ever Labrador. He is the physical embodiment of a yellow lab.
Yosano is a Doberman. No notes.
Kyouka is a mini greyhound
Sigma is an afghan hound that’s not even a question
Fyodor and his little clown boyfriend are Borzoi’s cause they’re weird as fuck

Harper (RIP little old lady) didn’t really have a clear breed. She’s the size of a typical housecat. We believe she was mostly a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix, but she jumped like a Jack Russell Terrier and the way she held her paw up when focusing on something is characteristic of the Beagle. So we think she also has a little of those two breeds.
But the biggest mystery of all was on the back of her neck. She had this ridge of fur typically only seen on the Rhodesian Ridgeback, and she was far too small for us to believe that’s in her mix.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are we on the money or do you think we may be off?
(Fun fact: During her middle-aged years, she had sculpted muscles. You can kind of see it in the fourth photo, but it was more apparent on her back and back legs when she put her paws up on the car window on the way to the park.)
What a funny little lady you had there! I would also guess Chihuahua or maybe Rat Terrier in there, but I almost wonder if she's got some Corgi in her instead of Dachshund as the source of those short little legs. Breeding a very short-coated dog to a medium/long-coated dog can sometimes lead to hair sticking up in odd places or patterns, and her face and head and neck looks a little more Corgi-ish to me instead of Dachshund. Doxies generally have narrower, longer heads with not so defined a stop, and less loose skin around their necks; then again, with a melting pot mutt mix it's never easy to tell, so I could be wrong. Maybe she did have like 1.4% Rhodesian Ridgeback in her, who knows--it's certainly possible for the smaller breeds in the mix to mask that sort of size. Ultimately, guessing breeds in mixes is always going to be an inexact science.
Regardless, she seems to have been a wonderful little lady, and gets an unofficial official AKC Certification of Good Girl from me 👍 I'm glad you had such a wonderful pup light up your life for the time she was with you. May her memory continue to bring you joy. ❤️
