rhodeytony seasons of love | summer, day twelve ☀️
what voicemail did rhodey leave tony at 3am?
rhodey doesn’t leave a voicemail because he can’t.
it’s 2002, a few days into august, and jim has been missing in action for about a week now. he doesn’t know where he is, and he doesn’t know if he’ll make it out. his mind keeps replaying the way his co turned away from him and left him to the wreckage of the fight he had caused, letting jim be a meat shield while he fled to safety.
jim didn’t sign up to be sacrificed for a middle-aged white man on his first assignment, but life had a funny way of making things hard on him.
but he’d woken up, so maybe he should be grateful.
staring at the weakening walls of his makeshift shelter is getting more exhausting as the time drags on, so jim’s mind wanders back to his loved ones as he wonders if he’ll ever see them again. he’d stopped himself from doing it in the beginning because that was a sure way to lose his mind, but now that it’s been a week of nothing? thinking of his family is the only way to keep himself sane.
he thinks of jeanette first, raising little lila marie while working to finish her high school degree. lila’s going to be three by the time his baby sister graduates, and jeanette made jim swear he would be there to see them walk across that stage no matter what. he wants to believe that he can do that, but as the days drag on, jim doesn’t know if he can.
he thinks of his mama and his pa next, who had been so worried about him shipping out for his first assignment. he pretended he hadn’t noticed their visual relief when he’d gone back to mit for his master’s degree, but the way his mama had stayed up praying the night before he’d left last month made his stomach twist with guilt.
finally, he thinks of tony. tony who was too afraid to take over as ceo after they graduated a few months ago and was working in r&d until he could work up the nerve take over stark industries. tony who had hugged him so tightly, riddled with anxiety about both of their futures as he quietly asked jim to come back safe before letting him go.
jim wishes he hadn’t promised he would.
because he doesn’t know if he can.
he wishes he could call his family and apologize. he wishes he hadn’t made a promise that he didn’t know he could keep. because even if he makes it out of this alive—and the most stubborn part of jim wants to believe that he still will—but even if he does, jim knows that this is going to change him.
and a small part of him feels guilty.
he’s experiencing a low point, jim knows that, and he wishes he could talk it out with his family and clear his head, but he can’t.
because he’s alone.
just him and his thoughts.
rhodey doesn’t leave a voicemail at 3am, and tony will never know. ☀️

It’s weird how people treat Bucky as the mysterious and secretive one within Sambucky when you can look at him for like two seconds and deduce everything you need to know about him. Sad boi, traumatic past, doesn’t like talking about it, quiet, frustrated, you better don’t interact with him unless he lets you.
Sam Wilson on the other hand? I have no clue what’s going on in his head most of the time. (I mean... I kind of do, as a viewer. But I’m not sure the characters he encounters are just as informed.) He seems like a pretty positive, optimistic person, but there are so many moments when he just looks desperate and on the verge of tears. Like he’s not sure anything will ever work in his favour. He doesn’t talk much about his emotions or his past unless it’s very relevant - and he does that mainly to connect with other people through shared experience. That’s why he mentioned Riley’s death. Or his aunt... who also died.
Karli called him a hopeless optimist. But is he an optimist? I wouldn’t say so. He likes joking and smiles... relatively often... but that’s it. For me he seems more like a realist who knows when he can get the job done to fix a problem. And he fixes a lot of problems. It seems like he helps other people all the time, so you might think he’s just selfless. But his desperate attempts to keep the family boat against Sarah’s protests were pretty selfish. (Objectively. I’m not judging him here.) Giving the shield away was not exatly selfish (he had every right to do so), but he still didn’t listen to anyone telling him to take up the mantle, because he didn’t want to, end of discussion.
For people like Walker he seems like a sidekick and a “wingman”. Someone who followed Steve around. But he didn’t. Sam made all the decisions himself - in ca:tws Steve even discouraged him from joining the fight. He went and fought anyway. Even Bucky, who knew Sam way longer than Walker, just assumed that he went against the Accords, because Steve did. But Sam formed his opinion first - it just happened to align with Steve’s. And how can he be a sidekick who just follows other people when during just his second conversation with Steve he said he likes working at the VA, because there’s no one above him giving him orders and that’s nice?
“Sam is the rational one!” - says the fandom. ...Sam kicked a fucking helicopter mid-flight. And jumped into one almost falling into the rotor.
“Sam is stubborn and will hold a grudge for a long time” - says the fandom (or at least the part of it who clearly dislikes the guy). ... Meanwhile, Sam helped Tony find Steve right after he was shot by him in the face for an accident that was not Sam’s fault. And he helped Vision in Infinity War even thought he was part of said accident. He still talks with Rhodey like they’re okay and nothing happened. And he tried to become friends with Barnes after he almost killed him three times. (As the Winter Soldier, but still.)
Zemo didn’t expect Sam to not hesitate about rejecting the serum.
Karli was surprised by Sam’s character. Later she was suprised again and disappointed that he (of all people) decided to become the new Captain. Isaiah didn’t expect him to take the shield either. But he did take it and Isaiah had to admit he was wrong about Sam after he heard his speech.
“I never said pilot ;)” ... Yeah, I know. You never did, Sam. Because you say so little about yourself. And it’s so vague and carefully selected.
“He speaks Arabic...” Yeah, Torres. I was surprised too.
--- ----- ---
This whole show (and Sam’s entire story in the MCU) seems like it’s just a person after a person, after a person making assumptions about Sam and then realizing that... Actually they were wrong the whole time. Either partially or complitely.
Sam is so secretive about his own thoughts and feelings that he tricked everyone around him into thinking he’s an open book, so no one bothers to even ask any questions. Because they feel like they know him, but... Do they really?
And I can just imagine that the longer Sam and Bucky work and live together the more Bucky sees how other people misjudge his partner... all the damn time. (Just as he himself used to do.) They just assume Sam will let them do anything they want and he doesn’t. Or they assume they can give him orders and he’s like: “Subtle? Got it!” - and does whatever he planned, following only his own rules.
It must be pretty amusing to watch. And it probably feels like some kind of honour to actually get a chance to know the real Sam Wilson.

don’t do anything brave - steve rogers
Tumblr media
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Female Reader (with powers)
Summary: he specifically told you not to do anything brave yet you being you, you did something brave and caused steve to suffer major heartbreak
Warning/s: fluff, angst, death, steve is kind of an asshole, not proofread
A/N: don’t ask me why i keep making fics where the reader dies because i don’t know either LMAO. this is a oneshot btw. the cuts are gonne be annoying but whatever. hope you enjoy!
You’re partially human and you have potential.
You have what it takes and everyone sees it. That’s why everyone was shocked to see you fall and cause yourself injuries. It’s a surprise that you could even get injured.
You’re strong and powerful but apparently, you’re not invincible.
A simple bullet caused you to stumble down a building and fall meters down to the ground. You weren’t too weak to die from the impact, though. That showed off some of your not-so-mundane skills. You survived the fall but it left you severely injured.
Your lover, Steve Rogers keeps pacing back and forth just beside the hospital bed where you lay, biting his tongue to prevent himself from telling you off about being reckless and not being careful.
“Go ahead.” You smiled cheekily at the soldier. He looked at you with a frown.
“I’m ready for your lecture” you snorted, wincing a little. Steve immediately rushed to your side, asking what was wrong or what was hurting.
“Relax! I’m fine. Just a little sore.” You teased him as he scoffed and straightened his posture.
“You need to stop joking about everything, Y/N. ” he frowned.
“And you need to stop being so uptight, babe” you slurred jokingly. Steve shook his head and chuckled.
“I would chastise you but I don’t think you would even listen.” He joked.
 “You’re damn right, I won’t!” you laughed.
“Language, doll. Now take some rest and heal up.” He kissed your forehead as you smiled at him.
“Okay, okay. I know how much you’ll miss me in bed.” You winked and laughed when you saw him reddening.
~~
It didn’t take too long for you to be able to go back into doing missions. It took a lot of vexing and begging for the Captain to say yes but he came through.
You weren’t completely back to normal but you could manage.
Being stuck in that bed was awful and going on a mission will be refreshing.
“Now, doll. I expect you to be careful this time. You’re not fully healed yet so be extra cautious and-” he paused to grip your frame and made you look at him.
 “Don’t do anything brave”
You gulped at his serious tone and nodded.
“I will. I promise you that I will. Now just relax and let’s kiss some ass!” you cheered and ran towards the aircraft.
Steve shook his head at your choice of words but smiled at your cheerfulness and followed you.
 _________________________________________________________
It was supposed to be basic. It was supposed to be an easy mission. It was elementary. All you had to do was infiltrate the base, get the information that Fury tasked you to take, and then leave. Three easy steps. Three easy steps that you all could’ve done but hindrances were presented.
The mission only consisted of you, Steve, Sam, Nat and Bucky. Enough to do splits. You were obviously with Steve on this one. Sam went solo, and Bucky was with Nat. Sam was assigned to keep eye from above, watching the entrances to see if you got any companion. Nat and Bucky were assigned to collect the files which leaves Steve and yourself to be the guards that makes sure no casualties were to happen with Nat and Bucky.
Everything was going well. Nat and Buck got the information and went out to meet with you and Steve. The four of you were about to leave when Sam spoke.
“Cap! It’s a trap! They knew we were coming! We’re outnumbered! I’m coming in!” Sam shouted in your earpiece.
Steve stiffened and took a deep breath.
“No, Sam. It’s too dangerous if we’re outnumbered. Call for backup.” Steve commanded.
“Alright, Cap.” Sam does as he said.
The doors busted open and suddenly, you were surrounded. There was a long pause filled with heated staring contests before the fight started. Nat, Bucky, Steve, and yourself fought of every HYDRA agent and didn’t have second thoughts in killing them.
It’s either kill or be killed.
Back up came. Tony, Rhodey, and even the kid, Peter Parker came for back up. They came and everything go easier. Every HYDRA agent was down and all were good. Everyone was walking out when you saw it from the corner of your eyes. A shimmer.
A HYDRA agent holding a dagger, limping towards Peter who was conveniently the closest one to the rogue so she went for him. You were faster, though. Before she could even jab at the kid, you pushed Peter away and held the woman’s hand that was holding the dagger. She looked at you in shock but that expression turned into a smirk.
You tilted your head in confusion and that’s when you felt a sharp pain shoot through the right side of your abdomen.
You looked down to see a needle stuck to your right side and the liquid went into your body when the woman pushed the end of it.
 “Got you.” she whispered.
“Ms. Y/N!” Peter yelled as he webbed the dagger from the lady’s other hand. Everyone turned to look at the both of you with shocked looks and a few gasps. Steve ran as fast as he could and was beside you in a flash, holding you up. He looked at the needle poking out of your right side and frowned.
Natasha went ahead and took care of the rogue.
 “What happened?” Steve’s voice boomed.
You only winced in response, feeling your body being weaker by the second.
“The lady went out of nowhere. She was about to stab me when Ms. Y/N pushed me away and stopped the lady. The lady suddenly injected her with that when Ms. Y/N was occupied with the dagger in her other hand. I’m sorry, I didn’t m-mean to-” Peter blabbered when you did your best to reach out to him and pat his shoulder.
“It’s not your fault, kid. Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.” You assured him.
 Are you?
 Are you really fine?
Steve held you tighter which made you look at him.
“I told you not to do anything brave.” He whispered, anger and worry seeping through his tone.
You chuckled and shook your head when you started feeling faint.
“Are you okay? Doll?” Steve shook you as you blink dizzily.
 “I feel weird”
“Get to the plane, now! Get Banner or Cho!” Steve barked out orders, worried about you. Steve carried you to the plane and then placed you on a small bed. A doctor came towards you and started checking your vitals and such.
 You were unconscious.
You were unconscious for too long.
To say Steve was super worried is an understatement.
You’ve been unconscious for three weeks now and everyone started getting jittery.
Everyone was affected. Steve was the most affected but so was Peter.
Peter was blaming himself and Steve wasn’t helping him with it. Steve was almost implying that it was indeed, Peter’s fault. Steve became cranky as hell and everyone was either annoyed or scared. Annoyed because he’s traumatizing poor Peter and scared because no one’s ever seen the golden boy this mad. They were also worried for Steve as they were for you. Steve wasn’t handling your situation well. You needed to wake up.
 You have to wake up.
As if the universe was playing tricks with everyone, the doctor announced that if you don’t wake up with in the next two weeks, it’s over. Your vitals were low and your heath rate was to low. You were only alive because of the machine. The news wasn’t well received by the team. Peter was devastated and guilty as fuck while Tony tries to cheer him up. Steve was horrible.
Steve was the most affected by this but he wasn’t giving up. He will wait. He’ll give you time. You’re a fighter. You’ll fight through this. You were always stubborn. You wouldn’t let this killer serum end you. You wouldn’t.
Steve waited. Steve was patient but then you just stopped.
You stopped breathing. Even with the machine on, you stopped.
Flat line and that deafening sound clouded Steve’s senses as he was pushed out of the room as the doctors worked on you.
‘This can’t be happening. This can’t be happening.’ Were the words that kept replaying in Steve’s mind.
You can’t leave him. You can’t. You promised.
 You promised.
 But that was it.
You were gone.
 There was a funeral.
You were buried because that’s what you wanted.
You were gone.
 You were gone.
Peter cried at your funeral, feeling responsible for everything.
The other avengers mourned.
Steve was devastated.
What was his purpose now?
 How could he move on?
Why did you have to be so stubborn?
“I told you not to do anything brave.” He whispered; pain laced in his voice.
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s been three days since your funeral and everyone was still in shock.
The Y/N that they knew was gone. She was always someone who was looked up to. How did it happen to be just a serum that killed you? It doesn’t make any sense but nonetheless, it killed you.
 Life is full of surprises.
Life is full of surprises indeed.
That night was specifically different. The night was cold and wet. The rain was nonstop and it’s like the god of thunder himself is unleashing his wrath but Thor denied that it was him.
The night was eerie and the avengers sat in the living room, having a cozy night while Steve isolated himself in the kitchen. Everyone was drinking something hot when the A.I., Friday spoke.
“System breached. Someone is trying to enter the building.” It said.
Everyone ran down, Steve leading the group.
Like Friday said, there was indeed someone trying to break in. Pounding on the glass door was a body covered in wet mud all over.
“What the fuck? Let me in! I live here. Guys?!” the figure screamed.
 Steve stiffened. Everyone stared.
“Umm. Guys what the fuck. Is this a prank?” the figure shouted.
Steve quickly went to the doors, opening it and grabbing the figure.
“Y/N?” he asked as he wiped your face with his hands.
“The one and only” your voice sounded unsure, finding the whole situation weird.
Steve didn’t waste his time as he embraced you, not caring if he got all dirty from your mud.
“Are you real? Are you really here?” he whispered. The others were just staring in confusion and in shock.
 “I think so?” you answered, then added;
 “I feel weird”
Steve was alerted and started to guide you inside.
“Bruce! Check her up, please?” Steve was pleading, he didn’t want to lose you again. You just came back.
You stopped Steve. “I feel weird but in a good way.” You say confusingly.
Steve nodded and led you to your shared room to wash up.
It looked the same. It was untouched. Steve slept in a guess room because he was too scared that he would sniff all you remaining smell away, as weird as that sounds. He couldn’t bring himself to sleep there so the room was left untouched.
You took a shower for the first time in a while and you savored it.
Steve got worried because you were taking too long. Maybe something happened?
 “Y/N? Doll?” he knocked.
You opened the door and looked up at the super soldier.
“I’m fine, Steve. Gosh you’re still such an uneasy person, geez.” You joked.
Steve looked at you, you were wrapped in a towel and so was your hair.
“I can’t help it. I lost you once and I won’t let that happen again.” He said as he pulled you in for a heartwarming hug.
“Which reminds me. You mind telling us what happened?” Steve looked at you and you sighed.
“Yeah. Let me just put clothes on.” Steve nodded and bit his bottom lip.
“Easy, Captain. I just got back.” You joked and laughed as Steve shook his head in annoyance yet laughed at your usual cheekiness.
_________________________________________________________
“I saw everything” you started as everyone listened to you.
“Everything flashed before me and yeah. I thought that I was still in a coma but apparently, you all buried me because I have to crawl my way up to the surface.” You joked as everyone eased at your playful tone.
“So, like, there was this weird dude who claimed to be a God. Probably good friends with your pops, Thor.” You nodded at Thor as Sam snorted. Bucky elbowed the man, making him shut up.
“Apparently, I’m not human. Well, I was human until I died. Which made me what I am now.” You tried to explain, hoping that they would get the point.
“Yeah? And exactly, what are you now?” Tony questioned.
“I don’t know. I’m not boasting but apparently, I’m a demigod now.” You bit your lip as you looked at everyone’s expression. Some were confused, some were amused, some where dumbfounded. Thor was smiling as he stood up and approached you.
“Cheers to that, lady Y/N” you high fived him as everyone started bombarding you with questions.
“Look, guys. I don’t know much but it is what it is. I’m just thankful that I’m back because I’m not yet done annoying the hell out of you.” You joked and went over to Steve.
“Especially this one.” You hugged him sideways.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this but I miss your stubbornness.” Steve joked which caused everyone to laugh.
The night went on with all of you just talking and the next day came. Peter Parker was in the tower and by what Tony told you, you have a lot of parenting to do and you dragged Steve with you.
“Peter!” you called. The kid looked at you in shock as you laughed.
  “Missed me?”you joked.
“Ms. Y/N!” the kid couldn’t help himself and launched towards you, hugging you. Only pulling away when he sensed Steve’s presence.
“I-I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to get you killed. I’m really-” you cut him off with a pat on the head.
“Peter, it’s not your fault. Really!” You elbowed Steve on the stomach as he groaned like a teen.
“Right, Captain?”you asked him. Steve sighed and nodded.
“That’s right. I’m sorry if I blamed it on you. I wasn’t aware of my emotions when all that happened and I took it out on you.” Steve looked down at Peter as Peter stared at him with wide eyes.
“It’s okay, Captain. I-I understand. We’re cool.” Peter stuttered.
“We’re cool” Steve repeated and glared at you when he heard you let out a laugh.
“Look at Captain America being so hip!” Y/N teased as she laid an arm around Peter’s shoulder.
Peter looked at you, feeling relief and happy for the first time in weeks.
______________________________________________________
Steve looked at you as the both of you laid in bed. You were facing up and he was facing you. You turned your face towards him and chuckled.
 “What?” you asked.
“I just like looking at you.” He smiled.
“Okay, Mr. Weirdo” you joked causing him to let out a hearty laugh.
“You scared us. You scared me.” He whispered. You turn your body towards him and sighed,
“I know. But I’m back and I’m not going anywhere.”
He nodded and wrapped an arm around you, pulling you closer to him so your head was against his chest and you can feel his chin on the top of your head.
“I love you.” He says as you feel his lips press on your head. You looked up at him and smiled.
“I love you more” you replied and pressed a kiss on his nose.
“Well, I love you most.” He chuckled and placed a kiss on your lips.
In that moment, everything was perfect. Ups and Downs were faced. Mostly downs but for now, everything’s perfect. Your love was perfect.

Reverse Of The Ashes
Reader x Avengers
Tumblr media
Summary: Year's after the decimation, the world was still in as much of a crisis as it was minutes after their loved ones disappeared. Everyone had moved on, but you knew you wouldn't be able to. It was after all your job to fix everything before the effects caught up with your reality.
Warnings: angst, sadness, sad boi hour content, endgame spoilers(?) (I wrote this before the movie came out)
Words: 2.1k +
A/N: So the reader is a time traveler, I kind of hinted at that and this takes place in Endgame but as I said, I wrote this before the movie came out. I had this up on my Watppad but forgot to put it up here.
The world was never the same, and it never would be, that's what you thought. So much had happened, you were warned, you were warned multiple times that if you did what you did, you would see things that would traumatize yourself. But being the stubborn person you was, you ignored the warnings and went ahead with her plan anyway. There were good things that came out of it like meeting the very people you heard about, the people you grew up hearing stories of. You made many friendships and got to be apart of the group of people you adored; they swore to protect the people and you wanted to be a part of that.
You counted the number of days until the disastrous event took place, the event that broke many and shook them deep to their core. It was the event that happened in every timeline you heard, all ending with different results. Back home, it ended with the event that killed the Avengers. The team of heroes that took an oath to protect all and as many as possible, but without them, the others didn't have a chance because they would never be them. There would never be another group like the Avengers. At least there wasn't back where you lived.
Over the time you spent there with the heroic group of people, you were able to grow attached, to attached. The attachment was so deep that once everything went down–you weren't able to stop it–the pain you felt was unbearable. It felt like everything around you was falling, the invisible walls of the world were closing in and suffocating as the seconds passed. At times it got so unbearably all you could do was fall to your knees and sob hysterically because the loss was too much; you lost everything, you lost everyone—almost. For those who didn't disappear with the others during the decimation, they were just as lost. You knew Natasha was known to keep to herself and quiet, but then you have never seen her this quiet; it was almost frightening at how quiet she was. Bruce had tried as many ways he thought was possible in locating were some missing people were—when you all returned back to the states from Wakanda, you guys pulled up a list of the people present and gone. Peter, Shuri, Tony, Stephen, Clint, and Scott–formerly, until he showed up to the facility upstate–all missing along with many others. You all didn't know where they were, there was no sign of them after the snap, but then again they didn't see them before it happened—Tony disappeared into space after the donut looking space ship vanished but he returned with Nebula which you were grateful for. You, (Y/N), last saw Peter the day before the world went into a panic. Midtown High's decathlon team had gone on a short field trip for a competition; Peter had called freaking out because he wasn't sure what to get Nick for graduation because he didn't want to give him some lame gift, his boyfriend was graduating high school for heaven's sake. That was the last time you heard and saw him, the same for Nick too. It made you tear up every time you thought of the two, they were your best friends, your first friends to make when you traveled back to the past.
Rhodey looked almost hopeless every time you'd look at him, the sad look in his eyes made your heart ache even more. He wasn't the only one to lose his best friend. Thor, when you looked at Thor there was a lot of distress in his eyes. There was hatred, pain, agony and what looked like grief. You weren't sure what happened to Thor before he ended up back on earth. He left back for Asgard two years ago and randomly–but you all couldn't have thanked him more–showed up and helped the group try and stop Thanos. But that didn't go the way you'd hoped. Whatever happened to him before he returned, you could only hope that the man wouldn't break from the pressure of his sorrow. Then there was Steve Rogers. It took a while for you to meet Steve in the beginning, he was always off doing small missions and when he came back he finished everything else he needed to do and headed home. When you were finally able to meet him, it was like meeting your idol. You had heard so much about Steve Rogers and the things he had accomplished—when you had come face to face with him, you were terrified. Most people would freak out and drop to their knees when meeting someone like Steve or Tony Stark, their heartthrobs. You did freak out but kept it to herself. You panicked, you freaked, you lost control all because you were terrified, but now, Steve was like family. He treated you like his own and after seeing him lose everyone he loved again, you didn't know how to help him. After everything, Steve was the one that stood by you and helped you through the grief, the one that pulled you up before you were buried alive in your own pity of woe. He was your person, the person you could lean on, the support system needed because just like you, he was in a time he didn't belong in; a man out of time. He was always there to comfort you but you didn't know how to do the same for him all you could do was reassure and give your honest opinions about things. And now, like any other time, you didn't know how to comfort him.
You stood in one of the many hallways in the Avengers facility. The building is usually booming with agents and staff. Their movement and voices filled every inch of the place—it was lit with life. Now, it was like a dead cemetery of memories and what was. It was empty, and even though the sun gleamed through the big windows the place was still dark and dull. Sadness constantly hung in the air, more than enough, more than anyone could handle. It was worst the first few months, now 5 years later it didn't get any easier. (Y/e/c) eyes scanned aimlessly across the pictures and portraits that hung along the crystal white wall. One thing you never thought of Tony adding to the facility was pictures. Not professional pictures–there were the heroes on the Avengers team portraits if it counted–they were any ordinary picture you would see inside a home. It gave off a very domestic vibe compared to the natural professional environment of the building. There were pictures of the team smiling, having a good time, actually enjoying life as it was—It was hard to find those moments as a protector of the people. You loved looking at the photos, they were photos that didn't exist in your timeline and who knew if they ever would now that a lot had changed.
Your eyes landed on a small framed picture—the picture was taken outside with the sun blazing down at the group below. The picture seemed so unreal to them too. The picture had Tony, Wanda, Steve, Clint, and Thor all huddled together in one picture. Tony threw his arm over Steve's shoulder, Wanda had an arm around Clint in a half hug, Clint doing the same with Tony, and Thor was squatted in front of them all with two fingers held up in a peace sign. They were all dressed in some bathing suit—they had to be at some lake, it was rare for them to ever take vacations like that. You also knew Tony's owned a lake house in Upstate. Your eyes traveled across the wall and landed on another picture. This one had all of the original six members of the team. A faint smile made its way on your lips as you saw the way they all were. Tired. They were either slumped forward or lazily sat back in the seats of the Shawarma Place restaurant that was down the street from the old Avengers tower; they all looked exhausted.
Even though you significantly enjoyed the time you had to deal with your grief on your own, that time was cut short as faint footsteps ascended toward you and then stopped. The man next to you watched you stand there and stare at the old memories on the wall. Your eyes that usually sparkled with wonder, were now dim and filled with somber and had been that way for years. The man next to you let out a deep sigh and moved his gaze onto the wall also. Just from the short scan, he could tell why you spent most of your time in this hall. All of the photos radiate happiness, joy, and a homey feeling. These pictures felt like home to Steve Rogers. His friends, his family, all there scattered around in photos. He got a look at the picture from their vacation to a lake in Ohio, the picture at Tony's party and his very own 100th one—time flies, it was a bit ironic but Steve couldn't deny it. He got a glimpse of the picture with Fury and him—one of very few, and a very old picture from a newspaper from back in the forties. Now that was something Steve never thought Tony would hang up. Lastly, his eyes landed on a picture that brought tears to his eyes. God if there was a word for how much a person missed someone, that would be the word exactly describing what Steve was feeling now. His chest tightened and he could feel his throat get tingly and tight as the water in his eyes began to spill. He couldn't look at the picture any longer, he knew if he did then his character of pretending to be fine and to be strong would break. He couldn't have it break in front of you; not in front of (Y/N), he told himself.
Steve quickly wiped his cheek and the corner of his eyes with his sleeve. He sniffed, cleared his throat and turned to look at you—your eyes were glued on the wall in front still. When Steve's eyes found what you were looking at, he could feel his heart cracking.
"I have never seen him so...lost, " your normal vibrant voice was soft and broken. Steve took a moment to think about what to say before he said it; the picture you were looking at was of Peter and Tony. How Steve knew who you were talking about could be considered a lucky guess to others, but not him. He knew you were talking about the other boy you befriended along with the Parker kid. Nicolás.
"He lost a lot of the people he loved, you did too. We all did." He said quietly but it was loud enough for you to hear. With a shaky breath, you tore your eyes away from the photo and looked down at your feet.
"I know, but the look in his eyes when I saw him. I can tell he'll never recover even if we get them back-"
"When we will. We will get them back," he said twice in reassurance for the both of them, then looked away from the memories on the wall and at you. His eyes bore into the side of your face, you weren't looking at him but it didn't need to take a scientist to tell you he was waiting for you to look at him. "There it goes again," you thought. "Steve Rogers being the optimistic man he always is," you said speaking in your head again. Even at the saddest time, the blonde man always found the good in something for you. He understood how different you felt around everyone, how out of place, He knew you tended to blame yourself for a lot of things.
Finally giving up, Steve looked away from you and just as he did, you finally looked at him for the first time at that moment. His light blue eyes were a very darker color. There was a storm brewing in them, one that couldn't be contained easily. His eyes were focused on the picture he had trouble looking at for a long time, and it broke your heart knowing exactly why he couldn't. He lost the one good thing that came to him when he woke from the ice, he lost her. After a few minutes–you gave Steve the silence he needed to grieve– Steve took a deep breath. "Are you ready to suit up?" he asked. You copied his moves, taking a deep breath, then letting your shoulders settle.
"Yeah, I'm ready," you were ready to do the one goal you came to the early 21st century to do. Fix what went wrong in the past once more to make the future good for everyone again.

The next Avengers movie after Endgame will just be all the heroes going through therapy. Tony’s doing the Tony Stark thing of ‘if I make enough jokes and use enough sarcasm, no one will see my pain’. And Stephen is completely silent and stoic for the most part until he just breaks down in tears muttering how sorry he is for causing the Snap. Overall, just a real fun movie experience for the Angst Pit that is the Marvel fandom.
That would be depression on the level of Patrick Melrose. I would watch it in a heartbeat!
Tony: Sorry for everything, thinks everything is his fault, feels guilty for not being dead already, has the urge to apologize for having to be rescued since he he is supposed to do the rescuing. His jokes will be see-through and his eyes will be wet with tears the whole time. He isn’t in therapy but in his bathroom and fights the urge to drown himself in the tub just like he should have while being waterboarded all these years ago.
Stephen: Tries not to think about anything and throws himself against the next mystical threat with abandon. Frightens Wong to the core. Doesn’t listen to his Cloak who tries to keep him alive at all costs. Attempts actual magic to tamper with his memories/erase the crushing guilt but doesn’t succed. Sits on the floor of the library, surrounded by books on arcane knowledge nobody should have, and doesn’t have the energy or reserves to cry tears. Finally breaks down in dry sobbing and can’t get up anymore.
Peter: Traumatized but not nearly as much as the two adults. Talks to his aunt and Ned, actually works through his problems. Sees Tony and Stephen and through their awful attempts at looking okay for the rest of the world. Tries to get them to speak to a professional or at least each other. Doesn’t suceed and is now busy being afraid for them. Does not know what to do.
Rhodey: Doesn’t believe Tony’s bullshit for a minute but is kept busy and fights for every free minute so he can spend it with his best friend to keep him in this life.
The rest of the Avengers: Does not know what to do and is busy fighting against their own demons.
Wong and the Cloak: Can’t stand it any longer and works together with Peter and Rhodey to get the two stubborn idiots with a death wish in the same location to talk things through. Rhodey knows that Tony needs someone to rescue to overcome his own demons and Wong and the Cloak know that Stephen needs to be rescued like nobody else. Also, Stephen is a Doctor and needs to help other people.
Tony and Stephen: Are being shoved together against their will and look into a mirror. The stubborn silence is broken when Stephen offers Tony tea. It’s grudgingly accepted. Tony asks Stephen about his shaking hands. Stephen asks Tony about the way he holds his left arm and how’s the gaping crater in his chest? More silence. More tea. An impatient Cloak. And then, finally, when everyone involved has already given up hope that the magical seal on the door will ever be broken Tony finally begins to talk. He starts at the beginning. He talks about surviving time and time again. And for the first time in his life he isn’t interrupted and his conversation partner doesn’t fall asleep on him but listens attentively. Instead of offering empty platitudes Stephen offers his own story in exchange. The accident. Losing everything and finding magic. Of dying again and again and again. By the end of it the Cloak is torn between choosing whom to comfort and offers a corner of itself to each man. They both hold on to it like a lifeline.
They never really heal or “get over it”. But they don’t think about ending their lives each and every day either. They meet for tea or coffee if times allows. Tony is the first person allowed to touch Stephen’s hands when his fingers seize up and he can’t hold on to anything. Stephen is allowed to help Tony with healing magic on bad pain days since he can’t do massages anymore.
They make do while the rest of the world heals and moves on. Or so they think. It happens so gradually that they don’t even notice that they have begun to heal, too.
💫
I would watch the hell out of this. For a whole season! What about you?

Womb to Tomb.
1.Steve Rogers would be lucky to live to twenty.
Steve Rogers would be lucky to live to thirty.
Steve Rogers would be lucky to live to forty.
Sometimes, Steve Rogers thought that he should probably live to a hundred and fifty, just to spite the doctors who deduced that he would have about five to ten more years of life expectancy.
They said he would die young, and he said otherwise. He was gonna grow up and marry his best friend and adopt ten puppies and live out of sheer stubborn will.
'Sheer stubborn will and friendship. That was all he had going for him.'
Or maybe it wasn't just the stubbornness. Maybe the super soldier serum had to do something with it.
The super soldier serum had to do with everything, or else he wouldn't be stuck in the 21st century like a flabbergasted puppy(see above) in the middle of New York Traffic.
2.Being stuck in the middle of New York traffic was not Steve's fault. Neither was the alien attack. Neither was wrecking almost half of New York-okay, that was partly his fault, his and the avengers. But well, what could you do.
He was stuck out of time with no way of getting back to 'home' (and really he doubted home existed anymore.), and all he had now was 70 years of backpay from his bank account and a shield issued apartment and a floor in the newly christened avengers tower.
Damn it all, he didn't want any of that-maybe aside from the apartment. He just wanted to retire and live out the rest of his life in relative peace. But that couldn't be, because peace had been left behind in the last century and all he had now were shield issued therapists asking "How's adjustment going, Captain Rogers?"
Adjustment was going fine. Of course it was, taking it from someone who crashed a plane into the Arctic and woke up wishing he was dead.
3. He wished he was dead. Sometimes. When he woke up in the middle of the night and he thought that he was still in a tent in the middle of Ww2 and Bucky was fast asleep against his back. And then he washed his face and looked in the mirror and realised that Bucky was gone, he had been gone since that fiasco of a mission to the Alps and all his dreams of a nice suburban life had been washed down the metaphorical drain.
At least it was some consolation that the LGBT community was less looked down upon in this century and maybe some other Steve and some other Bucky somewhere out there could have their nice happy ending.
A happy ending wasn't for this Steve. This Steve had nothing left but the serum and the good fight. And so he could do nothing but fight. He had to pick up his shield and carry on like everything was alright.
It wasn't.
4. He had always had Bucky. Even when he had nothing, he had Bucky.
Bucky was the one constant in his life among a midst of sickness and asthma and bruises and all kinds of other troubles a 1940s brooklyn boy could have. Steve had nothing, in that period between Sarah Rogers death-bless her soul-and Captain America, and yet he still had something, could still pick himself up because he had Bucky.
There was no before, nor after. There was just Bucky. And so, it shouldn't come off as a surprise that Captain America dropped his shield through a hole in the bottom of a crashing helicarrier and let his best friend turned pyscho assassin punch the shit outta him.
'I'll be with you till the end of the line.' Bucky had promised, like they were some old couple getting married with rings twisted from tuna cans. And if the metaphorical end of the line meant getting slapped black and blue like meat in a sack, then so be it.
"I'm with you till the end of the line." Steve Rogers told the Winter Soldier, and in that moment, he could see Bucky shining through the horror in his gaze, and he could have died right then, right there, because Bucky was there and he recognized him.
5.Bucky Barnes was the winter soldier. The winter soldier was Bucky Barnes. They were the same, and different, and frankly Steve didn't really care. Because that was what 'the end of the line meant'. He wouldn't care if Bucky was an assassin, or had no memories, or even some kind of fish monster with a mouth for a head(that he wasn't). He would still take the chance to get his friend, lover, Patrocles to his Achilles back, because Bucky was here, in this time and age, and maybe 'home' wasn't lost in a ravine in the last century after all.
"Man. I think you're obsessed." Sam tells him after his gazillionth 2am phone call to cry and vent. Steve doesn't deny it, and Sam doesn't not sympathize, and if the two of them buy way too much takeout and beer and just drown their sorrows, then its fine. Because Sam understands him(Riley, right?)
If Steve punches Hydra agents with more force than is needed, its also fine, because he can be sure that Bucky is on his own murder massacre field trip through Hydra bases on the other side of that world. (Well, either that, or visiting the Grand Canyon.)
Bucky rambles about newspapers in Steve's shoes when they find him, when Steve was expecting a cold wasteland of a person with stabby stabby instincts. Bucky laughs at him instead, looking way too haunted, and Steve wanted to give him a kiss that was long overdue (like that dance he owed Peggy.), but Sam was there, and that kiss could wait a bit longer, until after those damned Accords went to hell.
6.The Accords went to hell. The Avengers went to hell. Steve wasn't sure if there was any part of his life that did 'not' go to hell.
Bucky. Maybe Bucky. But apparently there was a flip switch in his best guy's brain that turned him back into a assassin, and that ended up with Steve, Bucky, Sam on one side of a airport, and Tony, Rhodey and Vision on the other.
Either you take your best friend, or you take your team. You could never have both.
'Brooklyn alley fights were never this traumatic.' Steve bemoaned when they were in a jet heading for Siberia and Bucky was going like 'Am I worth all this' and the friends that had not abandoned them were in a prison in the middle of literal no where.
Bucky was worth all this.He reflected as he flung his shield and his name down at Iron Man's feet and walked away. He was worth everything Steve could give him and more.
Steve Rogers was not Captain America. Steve Rogers was that 90 pound asthmatic from Brooklyn who had luck and a best friend named Bucky Barnes.
7.Bucky goes back into cyrofreeze, and Steve thinks he should have expected it. Steve had a 70 year long coma in the Arctic, and Bucky had had a couple of naps in a box, and Bucky hated getting woken up, like 'Stevie go away, it's too early for this shit.'
Bucky goes back into cyrofreeze, and Steve's okay with that, even though it means he'll miss Bucky when he goes on missions without him. But when he wakes up, they can skype all they like and he can watch Bucky exclaim' Do you know they have flying cars now? '
' Those are pods. 'Shuri deadpans in the background.
Then war comes back around way too quickly, and Steve reunites with his best friend-lover-what even are they now just to face another fight. Steve and Bucky, against the world, like it used to be in the old times.Only this time, they were not side by side and Bucky was hefting a machine gun with one hand and a-was that a raccoon-with the other and Steve was playing 'I can do this all day' with a big purple alien with a hoard of jewels.
Thor didn't aim for the head, and Thanos snaps his fingers, and Steve wasn't blaming anyone but himself when Bucky disappears before his eyes with a 'Steve' on his lips. This was deja vu, like 'home' dropping away into a ravine in the alps.
This was deja vu, because 'home' was dust on the ground of a Wakandan battlefield and once again there was no body for him to cry over.
They never had that kiss, did they.
8. Steve mourned. Bucky was gone and Sam was gone and half of the world was gone and he-they had failed.
The Avengers were supposed to protect the world, and they had done such a great job of that. Not.
He was mourning, and in a state of on off depression, nevermind the fact that he headed a therapy group that was supposed to tell people to move on. He couldn't move on, and neither could any of them-except for Tony, who still had Pepper and a kid in some countryside. Nat was still running missions as far as he knew, Bruce was MIA, Clint was MIA, Thor was sulking in a hovel, and anybody who was not missing or sulking was trying their best to stay calm and rebuild.
This was what had become of the Avengers and co. And he was damn pleased when Scott Lang showed up with his theories and a ravening hunger for sandwiches and beat some hope into all of them.
9. Time Travel was their best bet. And it kind of worked, if they did not mess up, again.
They sent everyone out, and Steve and Tony nearly fucked things up for good. There was a loki running around in an alternative timeline, a Hydra that thought Cap was Hydra, and a Cap that knew Bucky was alive.
"We got one more chance." Tony tells him, all that seriously, and Steve feels like he had gotten slammed by a brick wall(he had a lot of experience) when he sees Peggy back in the 1970s, with a photo of 90 pound him on her desk and a photo of her family next to that. Peggy had moved on and was married and had gotten a life and maybe Steve should think about doing the same when they figured everything out.
When they figured everything out, it became another war, because somehow Thanos from another timeline had hacked onto their ride back to their timeline and Steve was so tired of fighting. But maybe the fight would be worth it, just another 'I can do this all day' with a broken shield and thor's hammer, when those that had been dusted charged through glowing magic wormholes and back onto the plane of existence.
And there was Bucky, with his metal arm and machine gun and that look that said 'Steve, you did a load of stupid things when I was gone, didn't you?' And Steve thought that all the stupid things they had done were worth it, because the world was saved and Thanos's armies were gone and there were no more Mad Titans in this timeline.
Iron Man-No, Tony Stark was gone.
Bucky and Steve were both alive, and this was the end of an era.
10. There was a funeral, and all that came after that. Steve was tasked with taking the stones back to whereth they came from, and as always, Bucky was by his side.
They were in the Howling Commandos together, they found this century together and like that museum exhibit said-'Inseparable on both schoolyard and battlefield.', so hell if Steve was doing this alone.
Steve said his goodbyes and Sam was like 'Don't pick too many fights, man.' with that unknowing glint in his eye that said he'll be seeing them in 5 seconds.
It would be five seconds for Sam, and for Steve and Bucky-Mind Stone, Space Stone, Time Stone, Reality Stone, Power stone, Soul stone(Hello, Schmidt.), Brooklyn.
Steve was sure that Sam would have fits when he found Steve's shield and a letter in a cardboard box right outside Sam's room. Bucky had scoffed into the crook of Steve's neck when he told him what he had done and Bucky said 'It's a wonder Sam puts up with you, with all the dumb things you do.'
Steve was even surer that Sam would had some sort of heart attack when he turned around to see Steve and Bucky sitting on a bench not far away from the Time travel point, all old and gray and wrinkled and cryptic messenger of the lord like.
But it was worth it. Because this was the end of a era and Steve and Bucky could go home after the long, long war and have their happy ending with tin can rings and ten puppies.
They could wake up to 1950s mornings and vinyl music and alley fights and smoke tasting kisses and Steve stepping on Bucky toes when they danced in their apartment. And one day, he would definitely wake up to Bucky groaning. 'Stevie, you have white hair. You're getting old.' and that would be all he wanted in life.
He would live to a hundred and fifty just to spite the doctors in his youth. He would live to a hundred and fifty with Bucky just to spite all the things that pushed them down.
Captain America was a legend. The Winter Soldier was a ghost story.
Steve and Bucky were just best friends, lovers, on schoolyard to the battlefield to the future and back again.
From womb to tomb, they were just two Brooklyn boys, lost in time.
P. S. Name inspired by this fic on ao3. Content inspired by the gazillions of Post- Endgame fics, bc really the ending for Steve and Bucky was not so great and completely ooc.

You say time travel is underutilized so do you have any time travel aus?
Yeah! There’s Letter by the Water and Merchants of Venice (which is an AU of Letter by the Water) where Tony and Steve (and Rhodey in MoV)  are sent back to WWII. They uh…they aren’t happy AUs. They’re very very UNHAPPY AUs. They’re lowkey based on the grand cosmic idea that Tony /is/ the future and therefore everything about him being in the past goes wrong, but his return to the future can’t possibly go right either since now he’s taking elements of the past with him. These AUs are part of the reason I say Time Travel is so underdone???? Cause like…imagine having someone who has such an internal focus on moving forward, on change, whose sense of self is actually partially dependent on NOT being able to change the past…being forced to change the past? But not even the RIGHT past? Such beautiful misery. Honestly one of my better concepts for the sheer theatrics and symbolism. I I have other Time Travel concepts, too, though idk if they’ll ever see the light of day.One of them is an OC-centric fic so like I don’t bother actually fleshing it out beyond outlines since ??? no one will ever read it lmao. It’s KHR combination timetravel and parallel universes playing on the whole “reader enters the fictional world of a game/novel/whatever they love” with, you know me, a twist. Adult Reader gets dumped into KHR, but it’s pre-canon by a lot so they don’t know shit all that’s going on. Worse: they’re barely older than a toddler now and have a family that, uh, isn’t their family. Their name is different but they look ALMOST the same…just a little off. Uncanny valley for them everywhere, which is terrible. The reader is coming out of a pretty traumatic experience prior to this (choosing ‘fight’ over ‘flight’ for the first time in their life and uh…dying as a consequence), so they make some decisions (re: forcing a young Hibari Kyouya, an incredibly obsessive person, to get attached to the idea of teaching them how to fight…when they are both really young kids who can’t fight to save their lives) they otherwise wouldn’t that, to their utter horror, is clearly messing with the canon of that world. They can’t undo it either because pretty much everyone they meet is TOO STUBBORN to let them get away. It’s a tale of a lot of internal panic and also magic!science. I’ve been considering a BNHA one where Hero Deku is helping a kid out of a collapsing building. They have a Quirk similar to Eri’s and it has JUST manifested, so Deku is the only person brave enough to actually try and take their hand. It’s actually going perfectly fine until a sidekick lunges to ‘warn’ him (not knowing the situation) and is utterly horrified to find Deku disappears (Deku feels really REALLY bad for that guy since he couldn’t have known??? But he’s also kinda mad at him because wow was that kid ever not going to take it well). He winds up back at the Training Camp with a mind used to 70% OfA and a body that is NOT AT ALL cool with that. Cue him having to tell Aizawa what’s going on pretty much immediately in order to get his Quirk erased and also trying to figure out the morals of how on Earth he’s supposed to deal with the coming villain attack. Future!Mido’s got some really different attitudes about villainy and heroism than his past iteration and it shows lol.

Hey, I’ve Got You- Chapter Three
Tony Stark x enhanced! Reader
Summary -The reader was captured and experimented on and given the healing factor and she has claws that extend out from the bed of their nails. The people who are experiment on her cover her skeleton in vibranium. So the reader now has metal claws. They keep her locked away for a very long time. They rarely feed her or let her out because there is such a high chance of her escape now. Somehow the UN panel that is in charge of the accords finds out about the illegal experiments and send Iron Man in to shut down the operation. The reader is the only one there because the scientists had gotten word that they had been discovered. Tony finds the reader and takes her back to the compound.
Message-TIME JUMP! Sorry if it sucks!!
Warning- Reader is held captive and experimented on. Mentions of torture. Self-injurious behavior.
Background  Chapter One  Chapter Two
Word Count- 1,000ish
You had been living at the compound for 6 months. You had met Rhodey and Pepper the second day you were her and you had all become the best of friends. You had learned a lot about yourself since being freed. You were sassy, stubborn and sarcastic. You would fiercely protect and defend those you cared about- even if it was from themselves. Also you learned that you loved to shop, you loved being able to choose what you wore, you loved to be able to style your hair to perfection and you loved to make sure your makeup was on point. You think that it’s because you weren’t allowed to do any of these things for so long, so now you were over compensating for lost time.
But the most important thing you’ve learned about yourself since you came here was that you were in love with Tony Stark. He was kind, generous, funny and probably the best person on this earth. You knew he didn’t see it. Years of being emotionally abused by his father had destroyed his self-worth and the “civil war” with the other Avengers hadn’t helped. People said he was cruel, vapid, and narcissistic, but you knew that, that Tony was an act that he put on so people wouldn’t get to close to him. The only people he let see the real him were you, Rhodey, Pepper and as of very recently, Helen.
After the first week of living here your days fell into an easy schedule. You would get up around 8:00. Go to the lab to see Helen so she could get blood samples from you-she was still trying to figure out why you weren’t aging. Then you would join Tony for breakfast and the two of you would spend the mornings either in his lab, watching movies or going to different museums’. After lunch you would see your therapist for your 2 hour session, then you would go train- you had decided that you wanted to learn how to fight. Tony had found a retired SHEILD agent to teach you. According to them you were a natural, it probably had something to do with your enhanced senses, you could hear, see, and smell better than an average person. You also had quicker reflexes. After training you would have dinner with Tony, Rhodey, Pepper and Helen. After dinner you guys would play games, have movie nights or just hang out. On Saturdays you, Pepper and Helen would have “girl’s day” and the three of you would do things like go to the spa, or go to the mall. Sundays were lazy days and everyone would hang out in their pajamas until early afternoon. Most of those Sundays involved you and Tony cuddling on the couch while everyone helped to catch up on the last 50 years. You were currently walking to your therapy session when you walked in you saw your therapist and before you even sat down you blurt out:
“I think I’m in love with Tony.” Your therapist nods
“Is it because he rescued you? Or maybe it’s because he takes care of you? Loving someone who rescued you and then took you in is natural.”
“No, it’s not like that. Yes he did save me and yes he does take care of me but I take care of him to and I love him because he is kind and generous and funny. I love the stupid smile he gets when he’s explaining his tech to me. I love that he was so willing to take me in when I was a complete stranger who was traumatized. Tony gives and gives and the world just keeps taking from him, I think that its time someone starts giving back to him.”
“Do you think you’re healthy enough to be that person?” your therapist asks.
“I-I know my mental health isn’t 100% but these last 6 months have been good. When I look in the mirror I see Y/N, not that traumatized girl who could barely remember her name. But it’s a moot point, he probably doesn’t love me. He’s used to dating women like Pepper. Women who are put together and successful.” You say with a frown.
“How will you know for sure unless you talk to him? If this is what you truly want then you should know all healthy relationships require open lines of communication.” You nod at this. The two of you talk more about what a healthy relationship looks like and then after your two hours is up you go to find Tony.
“Y/N!” Tony calls. “I want you to meet someone. This is Peter Parker. Remember I told you about him? He’s Spiderman.”
“Mr. Stark! You can’t keep telling people my secret identity!” a boy who was probably 15 says.
“Don’t worry, kid. Your secrets safe with me. I thought Tony said you weren’t joining the Avengers yet?”
“Oh, no, I’m just here for the summer. I want to finish school before I join full time.” Peter says back.
“That’s great, would you mind if I stole Tony away for a few minutes?” You ask.
“Of course not! Tony told me I would be training with you so I’ll see you in a bit.” The kids said before running out of Tony’s lab.
“What do you want to talk about?” Tony asked curiously.
“I-uh just wanted to let you-uh….jeez, this is hard.” You says are you take a deep breath.
“Your leaving aren’t you. That’s what you’re trying to tell me right?” Tony’s voice cracked and you looked up and saw that he was distressed.
“What? No, I would never leave you, Tony. I’m in love with you.” You say and then you gasp and use your hands to cover your mouth. That was not how you wanted to tell him. But then you look at him and his eyes are soft and his smile is wide. He reaches out, grabs your hands and pulls them away from your face.
“I’m in love with you, too.” Tony says. You look down at your hands and then you look up at him. Then you lean into him and give him a quick chaste kiss.

Okay. So I’ve been stiring on this for a while so I finally decided to take a really good look at what’s actually happening.
I’d like to start off by saying that Steve was pretty much a dick the entire film. I mean I get that he didn’t want to sign the accords but the way he went about it was just so completely wrong. Thing is I completely agree with Tony because he had it right because he knew what was going on. I mean, out of the two of them who actually knows the politics of the 21st century and has worked these sorts of things for decades? Tony.
Tony knew, as soon as the Sokovia Accords were made that he had to sign on. It wasn’t about guilt, although that was part of it. It was about the fact that if they didn’t do it now, it would be much worse later and or done to them and he knew that. (He actually says this in the film.) He also knew that the only way to have ammendments was to prove he was willing to cooperate. As with any new law and it’s affected parties.
Tony knew they needed oversight. Everything has some sort of chain of command. Military. Police. Business. Etc. And Tony knew the value of having that chain.
Steve Rogers on the other hand, doesn’t seem to understand the necessity. Need I remind you that he repeatedly went against that chain and was rewarded for it? Sure, he saved a bunch of people when he went to get Bucky, but that’s not the point. He ignored the chain and there could have been dire consequences (as we see in the future after S.H.I.E.L.D fell)
Another thing. He went after Bucky. Only Bucky. Noone else. It was pure chance that he let those guys out first, but they were used as a distraction so he could get to his main goal. Bucky. We see time and time again that Steve gets tunnel vision when it comes to Bucky.
And in Civil War it escalates to the point where he’s injuring and getting innocent people killed for Bucky. Only Bucky. When it comes to Bucky, everyone and everything else is inconsequential and unimportant as long as Bucky is fine.
Steve did not read the Accords. Fact. He left for Peggy’s funeral while he was skimming. Even if he did read it all, there is no possible way (and Tony Stark would bet his fortune on it) that he understood all of it enough to make an informed opinion. Laws use a lot of big words. Big words that would have been invented in the 70 years Cap was gone. So no, Steve didn’t actually know what the Accords were about.
He probably had no idea what the UN was either. Did you see his notebook in CAWS? Pop culture. 7 decades worth of world history? No, Moon landing, that’s it. Politics? Nope. New laws or government organizations (like the UN)? Nada. I think it’s safe to say that Steve wasn’t really caught up if pop culture is the sort of thing he’s catching up on.
Steve had made his mind up already. And he can’t use the Bucky excuse because by then Bucky wasn’t in the picture yet. Steve never gave a thought to the Accords and then Bucky fueled that fire and made him stubborn to a point beyond stupidity.
So, to sum up here. Tony knew that the Accords were going to happen no matter what and was willing to help make ammendments to suit everyone affected by the law. Steve went “Fuck you, I know better that 117 countries” and got a lot of people hurt and or killed.
Here’s another kicker. Tony convinced Steve to sign the Accords. He was literally about to and then Wanda was brought up, which is another thing.
Okay, a) why the fuck is she an Avenger? She was a HYDRA agent. A willing one, might I add. She and her brother volunteered to be experimented on and then work for them. She was the cause of Ultron.
She did mess with his head, and arguably, because it probably was, it was worse for him. He was alone. He didn’t know she was there, then suddenly he’s shown his worst fears mingled with a shit tonn of major PTSD triggers. He probably didn’t even know Wanda gave him the vision. He has PTSD, he’s probably used to attacks where he sees things.
I mean seriously, Tony has made AI’S before and none of them went bad. (DUM-E, U, JARVIS, then FRIDAY) They (Bruce & Tony) even say in AOU “We’re not even close to an interface yet” which means something jumped the mind stone to hijack the incomplete program.
Then you’ve got to think, an AI is made, with incomplete programming and whatever the mind stone did, and then was instantly thrust into the Internet. No wonder he wanted to kill everything. Information overload much, then attempting to make something of it all.
She had(/has) an illogical and unreasonable hatred for Tony Stark. Sure, the bomb thing was probably traumatizing, but she’s like ~23 now. That’s over a decade since it happened and you’ve got to think, why didn’t the bomb go off?
Stark weapons were brilliant. Top of the line never failing basically. So. Two bombs are dropped, and from the sounds of it, there was no explosion or if there was it was really small. Otherwise how could they be so close to her parents without dying too?
So, this leaves two possibilities. First, was the bomb actually Stark tech? Her home was war torn at the time. I’m sure some sides would like to intimidate their enemies with the idea they have Stark weapons. OR, the bomb was never armed. Again, war torn country. It’s entirely possible the plane carrying it was shot down.
So, unreasonable and illogical. If someone stabs you, who do you blame? The knife, the manufacturer/designer of the knife, or the person who stabbed you? The third one, obviously. So why was Tony Stark to blame? We’ve also got to remember Obadiah was dealing under the table.
b) She is NOT a kid, and I don’t understand why pretty much everyone thinks she is. She’s ~23. She can drink. She can vote. She can drive. She’s killed people. She became HYDRA. In what way is she a child? The way I see it she hadn’t been one in a very long time.
c) back to CW. Steve got all pissy because Tony kept Wanda in the compound (the lap of luxury need I remind you) for her own safety and the safety of those around her. It wasn’t a matter of her starting a fight. If she’d gone out and been attacked and defended herself, the situation would be made so much worse for her. Especially if someone got hurt or dead when she did so.
Now we get to the airport. Tony tries to talk. Steve is dismissive and unwilling to listen. Steve refuses to share vital information that would have helped the situation and the threat they had every reason to believe exists.
Steve starts the fight. His team doesn’t hold back like Tony’s does. They destroy a lot of property and nearly killed T'Challa and Spiderman several times. I mean, fuck you Steve, who just drops a huge heavy walkway create thing on someone who is obviously a teen? And then WALK AWAY while they struggle to hold it up. What if you had overestimated Spiderman’s strength? Congrats, you just killed a kid because once again you show no regard for anyone else besides Bucky.
He leaves his team. They probably knew even less about the situation than he did, because he knew fuck all about the Accords so I can’t imagine the bullshit Scott and Clint were told.
Then fucking Natasha. Ffs, she could have easily either disabled/sabotaged the quinjet or delayed them from leaving. But she didn’t. Then she has the nerve to tell Tony to watch his back after she betrayed him.
Also, Rhodey. Oh my god. Everyone gives Tony shit for point blank shooting Sam, but think about it. If Sam had taken the hit and turned into a glider, Rhodey would be fine. It doesn’t completely make sense, but there was a long moment where Tony was watching Rhodey fall to his death. Sam was a quick way to lash out. He also didn’t hit him that hard, just enough to knock him down.
Zoom ahead, Tony gets evidence that prove Bucky is innocent and admits he was wrong. (About what though I’m not sure, because all he wanted to do was give Bucky mental help and a fair trial but whatever. It’s not like Steve told him about the threat or anything. Because that would have been helpful.)
Clint makes a crack at Rhodey’s condition which is such a dick move. Sam then tells Tony the information he should have been given from the beginning by Mr ‘I-Dont-like-my-team-keeping-things-from-me’ Rogers. Tony heads to Siberia as a friend.
Steve gets a little arrogant cause he’s got this attitude of 'I knew I was right the whole time and I’m glad you’ve finally seen sense’.
Then the video. This pissed me off the most I think.
You’ve just witnessed your parents brutally murdered by the person standing not 10 feet away from you. This reopens unprocessed greif and causes emotional backlash. Then you find out someone you thought of as a friend had known. Known for years. Since CAWS. And never said a thing in an environment where it would have been okay, instead of watching the murder and then being told someone close to you knew the whole time who had done it. (Again because it was Bucky. Bucky is more important than the world, remember?)
And his face. It’s so broken and betrayed. (I’d add a picture of Tumblr would let me) and he attacks, because who wouldn’t?
And then Steve does the worst possible thing he could in that situation. Fight back. When someone is having an emotional breakdown like that, you hold them until they calm down and Steve was well within his power to do so. If he’d tried he probably could have talked Tony down.
Fighting more fighting. Steve starts disabling the suit. To you can no longer fly properly. Then he proceeds to continue to be violent and make it worse and acts like it’s not a justifiable or reasonable reaction for a human to have (especially one with PTSD and a past of horrible things happening when he’s betrayed by someone close to him)
They gang up on him. Then Bucky had him pinned and is trying to rip out the Arc Reactor. Once again, PTSD. Also, need I remind you that he’s only recently had it removed from his chest. That was the only thing keeping him alive for a long time. In the state of mind he was in, he wouldn’t have remembered he no longer needed it to survive, hence blasting off his metal arm.
By this point he seems to have calmed down a bit and isn’t actively going for the kill, he’s just defending himself at this point.
He tells Cap to stay down, because he doesn’t want to fight him, and when he’s momentarily distracted Cap jumps on him and slams him to the ground. Tony barely does anything and then Steve is punching the faceplate. Then he’s smashing it with the sheild.
There’s this moment, you can kinda see it in the 3 secs of gif tumblr would let me use. There’s this moment where Steve is seriously considering decapitation. Tony sees this, is terrified and emotionally unbalanced and covers his face.
Steve slams the sheild into the reactor and leaves it there. Tony goes wide eyed with terror and let’s out a very not good sounding breath. He’s looking at Cap with such fear because he saw what Steve was about to do. Saw him stab him in the back and literally break his heart. (Kept him alive for years, remember?)
There is so much fear and Steve looks at him with no regret for what he just did and twists the sheild out of Tony’s chest and walks away.
When he drops it, his expression is like indulging a child in something stupid.
Then he leaves him there to die basically. Tony can’t fly, the suit is dead. Can’t contact anyone. The suit is dead. Noone knows where he is and T'Challa took Steve and Bucky with him when he left.
Steve Rogers beat Tony to a pulp after he witnessed something truly traumatizing and then left him to die in the middle of nowhere in an old HYDRA base.
They act like it was Tony’s fault for the Raft as well. I mean, they’re powered and dangerous and also criminals. The Raft was a bit much though, I’ll admit. But Tony didn’t put them there. He brought them in because he was following the law like everyone else on the planet should. Because he didn’t think himself above the law the Steve did. (Aka flipping the bird at 117 countries whose people say they’re scared and what someone to oversee the Avengers) and the jacket and collar on Wanda was unethical. I think the collar on its own would have been fine but wearing a straitjacket for too long is really bad for your health.
And then just to put the icing on the cake. The letter. The damn fucking letter. It’s mocking. It’s arrogant. Not once is there an apology or true regret. Other than regretting that they’re now criminals who hurt so many people that is. But mostly just the fact they have to hide when 'they did nothing wrong’. No remorse for anything. Not for Tony, defiantly not. That would be decent. Not for anyone else either.
“I know I hurt you”. That’s not an apology. There was no mention of the destruction he left behind in his quest for saving a single man, who has killed people. A lot of people. By choice or not, it was still his body. His life was not worth the loss of so many innocent lives. There was no acknowledgement of how deeply you hurt Tony. How much you damaged him.
Steve basically says. “I forgive you for being wrong and because I’m such a nice and just person when you see I’m right I’ll be here for you and all will be forgiven. Because we’re still friends/family. Even if you fucked up.”
Argh. Angry ranting at 2am. I’ve probably missed points I wanted to make but my wrists are cramping and I’m tired.
I just… I used to like Steve, but Tony a little more because he always seemed more relatable to me. (And had a more interesting backstory.) And then this movie just made me hate Cap so much. He was such a dick in it and it annoys me that the movie was obviously trying to get you to side with him. Feel free to add anything to this.
