Well, I did the color wheel thing, guys.  And I did it in the dumbest way possible-- by making it an excuse to promote some of my favorite Quill ships.  Huzzah?  Anyway, here is the result-- with an extra cursed commentary edition as a bonus!

Oh, also, I should probably point out that I wanted to spare my last remaining brain cell so I didn’t worry about being accurate.  Hopefully everyone is still identifiable despite the liberties I took. :P

I noticed one detail (most likely this was just a mistake/carelessness of the artist, and not the writer’s intention, but…) - they took off Rich’s Guardian jacket. Between what was happening in the Guardians run and what was voiced in X-Men Red, this jacket was like a symbol of Rich's devotion. And if Rich had come to terms with the divorce, then he had to take off his jacket himself. Confirming the acceptance of reality with such a symbolic gesture. And now it happened behind the scenes, even without his consent.

So... Rich's appearance in GOTG 2019 sure was a disappointment. They sell him at the end of an issue as Gamora's love so you expect big things with him and then he just. Leads the people that are chasing her directly to her and dips after the battle is over. I think he doesn't even say a word to her? Or even Peter. His best buddy "dies" and we don't even see a reaction. Whoa. It's also so incredibly weird to bring him up in that way if you're gonna push Gamora x Peter IMMEDIATELY after writers really were out there setting up the ot3 without noticing huh. But theeeeen there's those few pages in the Annual by Al Ewing that are just CHEF'S KISS

That said! I enjoyed the second arc more than the first. Characters still come and go weirdly so you know that Donny Cates is writing them elsewhere (seriously. Ghost Rider and Silver Suffer don't do much of anything besides popping up here and there but they're in the "family" scene in the hospital with Rocket?)

It was kinda fun overall? Peter was competent and that's the least I can ask? I like Daddy Issues? The Drax thing was. Weird. I know "being alive" is already a weird thing when it comes to him because of the way he was artificially recreated but the whole "hey let's shove our memories of Drax into one of these hundreds of random bodies that look like him" thing is gonna leave me pondering about the philosophical implications for days

I gotta say, my judgment was a bit clouded as soon as I saw baby Magus. I can't tell if he's a good character but I'm absolutely obsessed with him now. Baby! Magus!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!! AND HE LOOKS ADORABLE!!! I WANNA STUDY HIM LIKE A BUG

Oh, Rich is awful in GOTG2019.

There's obviously everything going on with Pete & Gamora, but the second arc literally opens with the Nova Corps being massacred & he is never shown to react to it which feels... strange, to say the least.

I hate that 616 Starmora started the way that it did here; I think it did have some potential prior, to feed into the narrative about healing but instead, it feels incredibly awkward & contrived. I don't like the retcon that Peter has always been in love with Gamora; I don't like the idea of him being in love with someone he's manipulating, brainwashing & lying to (regardless of intent).

The second arc does flow a lot better than the first. I've still got my issues with it but it does work better than the first one.

The Drax thing is so??? We all knew after Infinity Wars that he'd be back but the ramifications of him coming back in this specific way... Ewing, the loml, did touch on them. The current writers don't seem to be doing that. Cates even had a chance to. The vagueness on what, exactly, Drax is now is frustrating.

Baby Magus makes me giggle BUT. I don't know where the fuck he came from. Magus's last appearance prior to that was being murdered by Ultron in Infinity Countdown and like, yeah, that series ends with Gamora going off with baby Magus leading into Thanos (2019) but I don't know what happened between Magus dying and the end of Infinity Wars to bring us to any version of Magus being alive.

I did, admittedly, spend most of Infinity Wars slamming my head against a wall so. my memory might be fuzzy.

The annual by Ewing <3 that man GETS cosmic Marvel & Richard Rider so so well. I'm glad he's still fiddling with bits over in X-Men: Red but god, I wish he was back on GOTG.

Comment threads: whatever happens (happens to the both of us) — my first Peacemaker fic, and I think the timing of this hit when a lot of people were finishing up the show, but I'm really flattered and honored!

6. Work I'm most proud of (and why): I'm going to cheat and pick a few:

ghost behind my eyes — at 10,143 words, it remains my longest self-contained one shot, and I'm really proud of the character work I did here. Christopher Smith and his character development are really important to me, and here's to hoping that will continue in Peacemaker season 2!

standing at a broken altar (asking if we feel relief) — represented a whole new creative venture for me, featuring characters I (at least at the time) had never written into fic before, and I'm someone who's... honestly pretty lapsed, religion-wise, and writing this made me think about faith, how it's questioned, tested, and found again, in a way I haven't in a while. That's a theme I'd like to explore more in future writing — and I'm planning to do more of this through Matt.

almost paradise — the story that's been a long time coming for me. Gamora is literally one of my favorite characters of all time, and to say I... did not handle Infinity War well is putting it very, very mildly; that movie came out not that extremely long after a big personal loss in my real life, so losing a character that dear to me at that time was something I took really hard. This is the first time I've actually acknowledged her death in a piece of writing, and I'm proud of myself that I did.

7. Work I'm least proud of (and why): none of them? I don't usually post something unless I feel pretty good about it.

8. Share or describe a favorite review you received:

cannot express how much this comment made my year. yes, I do. when women.

9. A time when writing was really, really hard: Honestly, my biggest challenge surrounding writing is just... working around my own chronic illness (which involves episodic fatigue) and mental health struggles. For one of those reasons or both at the same time, there were periods of the year that made writing more difficult than others. I'm working on incorporating smaller, more manageable writing goals during those periods so that I can still keep working without exhausting myself.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: I wasn't expecting Matt Murdock Slut Era to extend for as long as it did, and yet here we are.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: from almost paradise:

What he deserves, he thinks, is to be left here, alone with ghosts because that’s all he’s fit to provide company for — maybe until he becomes one himself. Because, yeah, if Ego had been telling the truth, for all his words had been worth, with the destruction of his planet, Peter can do that now. That might actually be better for everyone involved, because all he does, clearly, is pull people into a total shitstorm or get them killed. Sometimes both.

But people don’t ever really get what they deserve, do they? His mom, the kindest person the universe would probably ever know, hadn’t deserved to die from a tumor in her brain, put there by an evil man she’d chosen to give her huge heart to.

And he doesn’t deserve a hand reaching toward him, pulling him up from the floor.

12: How did you grow as a writer this year: My writing got a lot smuttier LMAO But it also just... reflected a "fuck it, we ball" type of attitude that I'd been slowly embracing. Inventing ships, writing whatever the fuck I want. I've grown a lot, and I feel really liberated.

13. How do you hope to grow next year: I hope to continue just... following my bliss. I've come a really long way in not caring as much about an invisible audience and just writing whatever I want, and I aim to keep doing that. I aim to keep believing in myself in that way and going the distance with my screwball ideas.

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): Would like to thank the discographies of Massive Attack, CHVRCHES, and Taylor Swift for fueling my writing. Also anyone when I said "I'm gonna put these blorbos together" who said "do it".

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: I mentioned it before, but almost paradise was written during a depressive episode and I've joked it was me flinging out all my unresolved grief issues onto the page instead of going to therapy in December (using, you know, one beloved character of mine grieving another beloved character's death as a proxy), so. yes.

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: Don't write to cater to an audience; write to cater to yourself. If you love what you do, readers can see that love, and they'll believe in it, too. Readers are really good at telling what is and isn't genuine, so the best thing to do is just... be yourself.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: I have an existing WIP to finish, and a few more ideas in the can! Featuring: more Vigilmaker, more self-indulgent blorbo ships I invented (featuring either Matt Murdock or Rich Rider or both likely), and GOTG Vol 3 about to wreck my life, so of course I would imagine a good bulk of my writing this year will be related to it. This is all I'll say.

Dude's origin is basically Green Lantern x Spider-Man

From a newb fucking up a simple bank robber detainment, to physically disputing a Mechanical god.

The guy's arc is one of the most underrated in MARVEL.

He started off a rookie, became a hero, made sacrifices, fought a war (multiple), lost a lot in those wars.

He packs a punch, a good kid. Good cast of side characters (Ginger must be protected at all costs).

THEN V4 happened.. he commands so much presence as the Apex NOVA. He goes from Planet to Planet just fixing problems. He shows up, kicks ass, and fucking leaves.

And because he's a seasoned NOVA now, he doesn't have that rookie energy.

He's not nervous, or clumsy, he now talks like a guy who's been around the block. And he knows exactly what he can do power level wise.

He's that guy.

It's amazing that this is the same guy/ confused kid in that hospital bed, not knowing what hell was in store for him.

I usually voted for Sentry, but ENDGAME shoulda had this dude instead of Danvers. PERIOD.

Worldmind is an OG, all you gotta do is read V4 #1 and you'll see what I mean. You thought JARVIS & FRIDAY came in clutch. WORLDMIND is it as far as A.I's go bruv.

With the Guardian’s back and better than ever, Gamora continues to serve alongside her chosen family. They occasionally cross paths with the X-Men and Avengers, but for the most part it’s business as usual. Like always, they’re a ragtag bunch. They’re always going to be dysfunctional to an extent, but they know how to work together. Gamora’s learned to trust them and that means she can be happy – perhaps for the first time – and secure in her future.

✗ PETER QUILL (616)went from a teammate to Gamora’s love. They had a good thing going before he sacrificed himself, and losing Peter sent her spiraling. Then, he returned. It’s been different since then. He loves her but also lived a whole life in another dimension. They’re working back to what they were now. It may take time, but Gamora loves him enough to work through it.

✗ RICHARD RIDER (616) is another romantic entanglement of Gamora’s, and now they’re on the same team. They’ve both been bound by the fact that they each love Quill, and the three of them seem to have their own thing going. The extent of it is hard to say, but it works. They don’t need labels and Rich is a good, honorable man.
