"The Ghost and Molly McGee" employs archives stereotypes with basement archive [Part 2]
Continued from part 1
Tumblr media
The first time we see the archives in the episode
It is dispiriting to see yet another series using the basement archives stereotype, especially one I enjoy a lot, as this show is a cute, wholesome series. I wish the writers of this episode, "Monumental Disaster," specifically Ricky Roxburgh and Paul Chang, could have tried to smash this stereotype, rather than playing into it. [1] As Sam Cross put in April 2020, popular culture depictions of archives and archives have not "changed as much as any of us would like" and added that it "depends entirely on the piece of media being consumed." This same episode includes implied records destruction, as the Brighton Historical Society is on fire. [2]
Reprinted from my Wading Through the Cultural Stacks WordPress blog. Originally published on Nov. 18, 2021.
When Tug goes inside the historical society to save a painting of himself, but not put out the fire, it makes me think that he might want the fire to continue as it could get rid of any evidence which disproves the town legend. On the other hand, he could just be an arrogant jerk who doesn't care about other people, rather than intentionally letting the fire burn.
Not only does the episode play into many of the archives tropes but the archives itself isn't even accessible to the public, hidden within a library. In some ways, this archives is like the special collections room in Hilda's Trolberg Library. The difference is that this archives appears to be abandoned and is not tended by anyone. It makes me think about the scrolls inside of a tree that the protagonists of Tangled, another Disney series, find, which happen to be organized, but no archivist is in sight.
As for unnamed archives in this episode, it is more of a repository, almost a warehouse of sorts, rather than something that people can use. That is the worst part of this episode. Sure, some archives are restricted and are only accessible through appointments, having this archives be hidden away, only able to be accessed with a cliche book pulling, sends the wrong message. I understand the urge for that in the episode and to make it mysterious, but I believe that there is undoubtedly a way to write an episode such as the one described into this without playing into archives stereotypes.

Notes
[1] Apart from them, with Chang also responsible for the teleplay, culpable here are the episode's directors, Johnny Castuciano and Sam King. I don't blame any of them for this, nor the storyboarder Steve Hirt, the animators, or the artists. Rather, it is, sadly, almost inevitable for the series to play into these stereotypes unless they try and counter them in their work. I hope more people could be like Daniel Errico of The Bravest Knight who said "I can assure you that the Hall of Records was abandoned for nefarious reasons outside of the archivists' control" and engaged with some of my criticisms. Castuciano, for his part, has been a storyboarder and animator on many shows, along with being a director on some others, according to IMDB, with none of those shows noted on this blog. The same is the case for King, who has worked on DuckTales, Big City Greens, and Clarence apart from this show, as noted by her IMDB page, and for Hirt, who has storyboarded for series such as Big Hero 6, Pig Goat Banana Cricket, and T.U.F.F. Puppy.
[2] Other series have featured archives on fire, like episodes of Rick and Morty and Allen Gregory, so this is a relatively common theme.

More details:
Our Interview with Taylor Swift
November 2, 2008 Channel Guide Contributor
Taylor Swift may have been born two years after Def Leppard released its best-selling album, 1987’s massively successful Hysteria, but don’t you dare question her fan credibility. She’s been listening to the band since birth — even earlier, in fact. Needless to say, the 18-year-old country star, whose self-titled debut has sold more than 3 million copies since its release in October 2006, is as excited as anyone that she’ll be sharing a stage with her hard-rock heroes during CMT Crossroads: Def Leppard and Taylor Swift, premiering Nov. 7 on CMT. We spoke with Swift, as well as Def Leppard vocalist Joe Elliott and guitarist Phil Collen about their upcoming collaboration.
How did this episode of “Crossroads” materialize? Was it really as simple as you saying in the press, “I want to do this thing with Def Leppard,” and then they called and said, “Let’s do it”? Taylor Swift: Oh, it was a little bit more interesting than that. I went on tour with Tim [McGraw] and Faith [Hill] last summer, and I found out through the grapevine that Tim and Faith’s tour manager was [Def Leppard drummer] Rick Allen’s brother. … So I started totally geeking out. … I walked up to Robert Allen, the tour manager, and said, “Is there any way that I could have your brother’s number?” And he said, “Um, no. But I could maybe arrange a phone call.”
So one day I was just sitting on my bus hanging out and Robert Allen brings his phone on the bus and says, “Here, I’ve got someone on the phone for you.” I get on the phone, and it’s this guy with a British accent named Rick Allen. I was like, “Hi, you don’t know who I am at all. You don’t know me or my music, probably, but I’m a new country artist, my name is Taylor and there’s this thing on CMT, which is Country Music Television, where they pair up rock acts with country acts and it’s a concert called Crossroads. My dream Crossroads partner is you guys, and I would really like it if you would do that with me — could you do that with me?” And he was probably thinking, “Who is this kid?” And I said, “So, do you think that you could think about that?” and he was like, “Well, uh, maybe I could ask the guys about it. Good talking to you.” So, I basically threw it out there that I really wanted to do a Crossroads with them, and then I didn’t hear anything for, like, six months. I was like, “Eh, yeah, that probably didn’t work. I probably freaked him out, like, in stalker mode.”
I got a call from my record label like maybe six or seven months after that phone call, and they said, “Def Leppard just called. You’re on their radar, they know who you are, they’ve heard your music and they’re interested in the Crossroads.” And I was really excited about it.
Since then, have you met the band in person? I have never met the band in person. My whole band has met their band — and they’re absolutely so in love with them it’s not even funny — but I had a previous obligation when they were in Nashville so I wasn’t able to go.
So what is it going to be like for you when you actually walk into a room with these guys for the first time? It’s going to be amazing to walk in and see these people and meet them. I’ve listened to their music since I was a little kid. My mom listened to Def Leppard when she was pregnant with me. It’s pretty much ingrained into my genetics that I am to love Def Leppard, so it’s really cool to get to do this with them.
How do you prepare for something like this? I mean, it’s not just a normal show — you have to learn some of their songs, they have to learn your songs. How’s that going to work? Well, I think we’re going to pick five songs out of their enormous catalog of smash hits and pick five songs of mine, work them up and have the Def Leppard versions of my songs and, I guess, countrify some of their songs. It’ll be kind of fun.
Are there any songs that you’re going to push for? I need to do “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Photograph.”
What’s going to be more exciting — to hear them do one of your songs or to be able to do one of their songs with them? To be able to play one of their songs with them is going to be awesome.
Do you see some common ground between what you do and what they do? I think we both like to write songs about relationships and love and how people make other people feel. That’s why I’ve always been able to relate to their songs and maybe be influenced by their songs.
Your music blurs the line between country and pop/rock. Where does that sound come from, and what other artists have influenced you? I was very influenced by Sheryl Crow and Shania Twain, and the things that they did with their music, where it was very relatable to everybody. That’s not my goal — I don’t sit down and say, “Let’s write a song that’s relatable to everybody, with a melody that could be played on both pop and country radio.” That’s not at all my thought process. My thought process is just, “Let’s write a song about what just happened yesterday with this guy.” When I sit down and write a song, I’m writing the song for the person that I’m writing the song about. I’m only thinking about what they’re going to hear when they hear the song. The fact that everybody else is going to hear it is just sort of an added bonus.
You’ve got a new album called “Fearless” coming out Nov. 11. What should you fans expect from this one? I like to write songs about boys and love and relationships, and that’s what I’ve got on this album just like I did on the first album. So it’s more of that, except with two more years of maturing, I guess. I don’t like to sit down and have a game plan for how an album’s going to turn out. I just like to put the best songs that I’ve written on an album, and put as many songs on it as I can possibly put it, and release as many songs as I can possibly release, and hope for the best. That’s what we did for the first album and hopefully we get similar results with the second album. I’m really excited about it. I coproduced this album, as well as wrote every song on it, so it’ll be really fun.
Are there any songs in particular that you can’t wait for people to hear? There’s a song called “You Belong With Me.” It’s about being in love with someone who doesn’t even know it, and they’ve got a really snobby, annoying, mean girlfriend who always brings them down. And, you’re like, “Come on, you belong with me. You should be with me, not her” — which was a really fun concept for me to sing about. Also, there’s a song called “15” that is probably the most personal song I’ve written, and a song called “Fearless,” which is about the best first date I’ve ever had.
You’re sort of in a unique position in that you’re still young but you’re already sort of a veteran in the music business. What have you learned over the past four of five years that has helped you get to where you are right now? That life lessons count on a really grand scale when you’re in the music industry. It’s the things that you’re taught when you’re a little kid, like “Treat people the way that you would want to be treated.” You never know who you’re talking to. And that advice goes with the music industry or it goes with life. Treat people the way you want to be treated. … Also, be competitive but never be jealous.
Have you had some negative experiences in the business? You always play shows where you feel like you didn’t “bring it” to the stage or the sound was terrible or the crowd wasn’t really that fun. Or you have nights where you feel like nobody likes you and you have mornings where you just roll out of bed and you’re not a fun person to deal with for a couple of hours. Everybody does that. I think the most amazing thing about being in the music industry is that I kind of thought that all my heroes were like these superheroes that wore capes and were a little superhuman, but you realize that they all have bad days and they all have days where they’re really cranky and they don’t want to get out of bed. They just want to lay in bed and watch TV, and I think it’s really fun to allow yourself to have a few days like that, but the rest of the time be really thankful that you are where you are.
Just to use Def Leppard as a frame of reference — they’ve been around for 30 years and they just debuted at No. 5 on the charts with their latest album. Do you want to be in this business 30 years from now? I would love to make music for the next 30 years. I don’t know if I want to be walking red carpets in 30 years. In 30 years, I’ll be 48 and I’ll have wrinkles — because we’re probably not going to get rid of wrinkles surgically — and I’m probably going to have some gray hairs. I think [one of] the people that I’ve seen gracefully do this [has] been Emmylou Harris — she’s so beautiful. I think people like that — I really aspire to be like them because I think she’s so very elegantly continued to make music. It’s not about fame for her, it’s about music.
There has been a lot of focus recently on who you may or may not be dating. Is it weird for you that people seem to care so much about your personal life or is that just something that comes with the job? I think I pay more attention when people write articles about my music. My personal life is something that people have been loving to write about lately. You know, I have a great life. I didn’t think I was going to get to do this. I didn’t think people were going to care who I go to dinner with and hang out with. The whole personal life thing, I look at it like I didn’t expect to be in this position and every day is a bonus day. I can take that with all the good stuff that I’ve been given. It’s not my favorite part, that people have a microscope on who I’m dating, but hey, whatever.
https://www.channelguidemag.com/tv-news/2008/11/02/our-interview-with-taylor-swift/
I didn’t realize Taylor was so young, can’t imagine doing all this at 18

What can we expect from The Flash season 9?
Tumblr media
With The Flash season 8 having wrapped up a couple of weeks ago, and it has been confirmed that the people behind the show are taking a lengthy break from starting up the storylines and writing for the upcoming season 9, from what has went down and the details in this previous season is what I want to discuss of how it can play out into next season.
Tumblr media
Villians
For those that have been remaining fans of The Flash after season 6, are well aware of the new leadership that The Flash fell under, when current showrunner Eric Wallace took over as showrunner.
Wallace’s format of the seasons following have been broken up storylines in a each season, ranging between 2 and 3 per season, in which he calls “graphic novels”.
During the end of season 8, we were taken to a lab of an unknown scientist in the distant year of 2049.
In the lab, we saw a blue crystal that began glowing more bright, and fans began to raise questions about if this is a tease to a long awaited villian we have been wanting on the show, Cobalt Blue.
This might be confirmed for season 9, as we are to get 3 graphic novels in the upcoming season, and Rick Cosnett (Eddie Thawne), expressed his interest in returning in season 9, with fans pestering for him to play the villian Cobalt Blue.
As for the remaining 2 villians that are set to be appear, their identities remain unknown.
Tumblr media
2. Suits
With The Flash’s suit on the show being complete perfection, as now with the new addition of the golden boots we got this past season, I wouldn’t be expecting any new Flash suits for him.
I would love for Barry to dawn one of his old suits, such as season 1 and season 4’s suits.
As for the other heroes, now with Allegra and Cecile becoming more relevant to the show as heroes on the battlefield, I would expect for there to be new suits for them as curtesy of Chester, or even Cisco maybe.
Tumblr media
3. New characters
New characters for an upcoming season are always common for The Flash, and we got a big one to be introducd at the end of season 8.
With Caitlins and Marks attempts to bring back Frost from the dead, we seemingly got introduced to a new fusion of Caitlin and Frost without actually seeing who it was.
Other new characters would have to be the upcoming villians we will be getting in the show, and I am very excited to see who it will be.
Tumblr media
4. Other storylines
With Jesse L. Martin’s character Joe West leaving the show but only as a series regular, that leaves us without about 6 main characters left in the show (Barry, Iris, Caitlin, Allegra, Cecile, and Chester).
With the story of Team Flash facing the villians all together remaining the same, I am actually wondering about seperate storylines we will see in the season.
Barry and Iris will most likely become more intimte with each other, and subsequently have Iris get pregnant so we can see little Bart and Nora Allen running around.
Allegra and Chester will most probably finally get together, as the show has been awkwardly forcing them to throughout the entire last season (no one really cares about if those 2 get together, or at least that’s my opinion).
Allegra and Cecile will learn how to be better heroes on the battlefield, now that they are appearing more frequently on it alongside Barry.
Caitlin will definitely have a storyline with this new Caitlin/Frost fusion that she “accidentally” created.
The Flash season 9 doesn't arrive onto our screens until the next new year, so until then keep theorizing on what you think can and will happen.

Rick Allen was 21 years old when he lost his arm and he never gave up.
If that happen to a 21 year old nowadays, he’ll probably become a tiktoker.

Ask rules
I accept requests for aesthetics as it helps to keep me motivated and challenged. However I do have a few rules that you will have to follow if you want to ask me to make you an aesthetic.
I only do aesthetics for the categories that I have on my masterlist above and I will not be accepting any asks about media that falls outside of these categories. E.g. I currently will not be making any aesthetics for video games, However I may do aesthetics of these things in the future

The Oscar Effect on Careers By Susan King
Does winning an acting Oscar change the career of the recipient? The answer is yes and also no. Take Brad Pitt, who won Best Supporting Actor last year for ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD (2019). He’s a veteran superstar with over three decades in Hollywood. So, the award is more icing on the cake for his career. But that wasn’t the case when he earned his first nomination for Terry Gilliam’s 12 MONKEYS (‘95). Pitt was on a hot streak since gaining attention for his roles in THELMA & LOUISE (‘91), A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT (‘92), INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (‘94) and LEGENDS OF THE FALL (‘94), and his first Oscar nominations gave his career an even bigger boost.
Similar to Pitt, many young actors discovered their stock in Hollywood with Oscar gold, but nominations and wins have effected various stars’ careers in different ways. Here’s a look at various Oscar winners and how the award affected their careers.
Martin Landau
Tumblr media
The Oscar has changed the career trajectory of many veteran actors. Martin Landau was making such TV movies The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island (’81) that just squandered his talents. But that all changed when he earned his first Oscar nomination for Francis Ford Coppola’s TUCKER: THE MAN AND HIS DREAM (’88), followed by a second for Woody Allen’s CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS (’89), eventually winning for his poignant performance as Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton’s ED WOOD (’94).
Ironically, Landau told me in a 2010 L.A. Times interview he didn’t think he could play the Dracula star. “It’s a Hungarian morphine addict, alcoholic who has mood swings,” he remembered telling Burton. “That would be hard enough, but it has to be Bela Lugosi! I said I don’t know if I can do this, but let’s do some tests.”
Makeup artist Rick Baker transformed Landau into the elderly frail actor. Burton, he recalled, looked at the tests and thought he was 50% Lugosi. Landau believed he captured the icon in fleeting moments. “I said if I can do it 10% of the time, I can do it 100% of the time. They have to accept me as Lugosi in the first five minutes or we don’t have a film. It was not an impersonation for me. He had to be a human being.”
Melvyn Douglas
Tumblr media
Similarly, Melvyn Douglas, who was best known for his comedic roles in the 1930s and ‘40s in such films as NINOTCHKA (’39), had seen his career slow in the 1950s because of his liberal political leanings. But he came back to the forefront in 1960 after winning a Tony Award for Gore Vidal’s THE BEST MAN, and then receiving his first of two supporting actor Oscars for his turn as Paul Newman’s hard-working Texas rancher father in Martin Ritt’s HUD (’63). Seven years later, he received a Best Actor nomination as Gene Hackman’s father in I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER (’70), ultimately winning his second Oscar as the president of the United States in Hal Ashby’s BEING THERE (’79).
Luise Rainer
Tumblr media
The German stage actress was signed to an MGM contract in the mid-30s. But the free-spirited Rainer, who considered herself an actress and not a movie star, was always at logger heads with studio head Louis B. Mayer. She told me in a 2011 L.A. Times interview, Mayer “couldn’t make me out. You know it was a little bit difficult for him. I wasn’t the type that he was used to. So, the poor man didn’t know what to do with me. For my first film, ESCAPADE [‘35], William Powell said [to him] you got to star that girl…My first film made me a star.”
Rainer won Best Actress as famed performer Anna Held in THE GREAT ZIEGFELD (’36) and as a Chinese peasant in THE GOOD EARTH (’37). All but one of her subsequent films didn’t do well at the box office and she left Hollywood. She made one film, HOSTAGES (’43), guest starred on some TV series including a voyage on The Love Boat and had a small part in indie film THE GAMBLER (’97).
Art Carney
Tumblr media
One of the greatest comedic actors, Carney came to fame in the Honeymooners sketches on The Jackie Gleason Show and The Honeymooners series as Ralph Kramden’s (Gleason) best pal, the clueless sewer worker Ed Norton. He won five Emmys for his work with Gleason. Carney also originated the role of neatnik Felix Ungar opposite Walter Matthau’s Oscar Madison in the 1965 Broadway production of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple.
Well-known that he had a drinking problem, Carney wasn’t working that much in film or TV in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In fact, he tried to convince Paul Mazursky he wasn’t right for the filmmaker’s heartfelt dramedy HARRY & TONTO (’74) about a curmudgeonly old New Yorker who travels with his cat across country after he loses his apartment. Mazursky told me in a 2011 L.A. Times interview that no one wanted the part. James Cagney, Laurence Olivier, Cary Grant and even Danny Kaye were among those who turned him down.
He had seen Carney on Broadway in 1957 in a dramatic role in The Rope Dancers.  “Of course, I had seen him in The Honeymooners. He didn’t want to do it,” noted Mazursky. “He said ‘I’m 59 years old and you want this guy to be in his 70s.’ I said, ‘Art, this is the first time I met you and you look like you are in your 70s – you’re balding, you wear a hearing aid and you have a bum leg.’ He told me, ‘You don’t want me, I’m an alcoholic.’ He had one bad night then nothing else. He had been out on a binge and he showed up on location in Chicago in a taxi in the morning loaded. I took him up to his room, put him in the shower and made him a pot of coffee. He was easy to direct.”
Carney won both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for his turn, beating out the likes of Jack Nicholson for CHINATOWN and Al Pacino for THE GODFATHER PART II. And he did some of his best work post-Harry including as an aging Los Angeles private detective in the charming THE LATE SHOW (’77) and as a senior who teams up with his buddies (George Burns and Lee Strasberg) to rob a bank in GOING IN STYLE (’79). He earned his sixth Emmy for the TV movie Terrible Joe Moran (’84), which was James Cagney’s last film.  Carney’s final film was the 1993 Arnold Schwarzenegger disaster LAST ACTION HERO. “I’m outta here” was the last line Carney ever uttered on film.

You'll be just fine
(this has been cross posted on AO3)
“It’s not gonna be easy, you know?” A voice startles Beth from her awkward fangirling turned awestruck stare. Iris West-Allen! From Earth-1! “I'm sorry what?” She stutters.
Flashing (ha) a closed mouth smile, Iris repeats her statement; “Being with a superhero. It’s not gonna be easy,”
Oh?
“OH! I’m not dating a superhero, I'm dating my best friend ..” the tiniest member of the JSA trails off as her eyes glance in the direction of her best friend, Rick Tyler, who is talking to Mr Dugan and The Flash.
A soft chuckle, really could be called a breath being let out in amusement, has Beth snapping her eyes back to the beautiful reporter from another universe. “You love him. And he definitely loves you. And your friends and family are going to support your relationship though everything but not a lot of the world will,” the dark eyed woman says. “Common thing across all of the multiverse though is bias and prejudice, microaggressions and racism.” The young genius scrunches up her face, “What do you mean?”
Iris takes a pause, looks contemplative and after a moment says;
“we are black women in America.” at Beth’s confused nod she continues, “black women who are in love with superheroes. White male superheroes. Mine, the fastest man alive. Yours, the strongest man for an hour.”
‘There it is’ Iris thinks as she sees Beth’s eyes quickly gloss over with unshed tears. “..I dont have anyone to talk to about it. The little comments about our relationship when we’re at school. The-“ “slight condescending tones that come from people when they realize you’re a couple?” Iris finishes
Nodding, Beth sniffles, “and I don't know what to do. He doesn’t see it, how bad it gets when we have different classes or extracurricular activities. The looks and snide remarks. If he did he’d level the entire town.”
The Scarlet Speedster’s Lightning Rod walks over to the girl and puts a hand on her shoulder. “I know. Barry would do the same for me but I’m not telling you this to hurt you, I’m telling you this to let you know you’re not alone nor are you wrong for feeling these emotions.”
Caught off guard by the Superheroine launching herself into Iris, she let's out an “oof”.
“Thank you..”
she whispers.
“You’re welcome. I’m always just one universe away. Barry created this vibrational detection and breach transporting bracelet and I want you to have it.” Iris responds, taking the tech bracelet off her wrist and sliding it on Beth’s. “That way if you need to see me or talk, I’m one vibe away.” Beth gives the reporter a watery but bright smile. One Iris can’t help but return.
“Remember, they might try to make you feel small but you are a hero in your own right. You are intelligent and kind and a badass without those goggles.” The Earth-1er states. “How do you know?” comes the soft question.
“Because I am. And I see a lot of me in you. And I see a lot of Barry in Rick. So I know you’ll be okay. As long as you watch his six and he watches yours, not just on the battlefield but in your day to day.” Pat and Rick call Beth over, needing her opinion it seems and when Iris sees how Rick's eyes light up at the look of Beth and how he angles himself to be closer to her, she thinks of her younger self and Barry. Him still quietly pining and her being oblivious but always being pulled toward one another.
Iris smiles as Barry walks up to her and places his arm around her waist.
‘yeah, you’re gonna be just fine.’ She thinks to herself.

the baby nor the babysitter
Jesse Chambers. Bart Allen. Baby.
Babysitting. Family Dinners. Questionable Outfit Choices.
756 words.
(ao3.)
Dinner at the Garricks was always a casual affair. Even when the amount of speedsters in the house increased, things were kept under control.
Jesse was keen on helping Joan in the kitchen. Unlike Wally or Jay or Bart, she was unaware of just how determined Joan was to get dinner done without a speedster’s help. After Joan shooed Jesse out of the kitchen for the sixth time, Jay managed to distract her on the back porch with a root beer and a sunchair.
Rick was helpful as well, he reminded his wife that they came to dinner so they could relax. Being new parents as well as full-time heroes left them overdue for any kind of downtime. He kept Jesse involved in the conversation, getting her to talk about anything that wasn’t parenthood or superheroics.
She ended up talking at length about her mother’s upcoming book — apparently Libby Lawrence’s memoir just couldn’t be written without mentioning the embarrassing moments of Jesse’s childhood. She bemoaned her mother for including an entire chapter about how she wet the bed until she was thirteen. When Jay and Rick chuckled in response she shot them a well-deserved death glare.
When Joan told them that it’s ten minutes to dinner time, Jesse took it as an opportunity to check on the younger members currently inside the Garrick household.
She zipped into the living room to find Bart Allen sitting on the carpet with little Jonathan Jason Tyler in his arms. Airing on the TV was an episode of the Teletubbies, but neither the baby nor the babysitter heeded any attention to it. Instead Bart had an array of old photographs organized in front of his infant cousin.
“Alright, so we’ve organized your mommy’s outfits on a scale of ‘Okay’ to ‘What the Hell Was She Thinking?’” Bart said, gesturing dramatically to the assortment in front of them. “Thoughts?”
Johnny did what he usually did and babbled in response. Bart being Bart, he took this as a viable answer and nodded along.
“Of course, of course. You know best.”
Jesse raised an eyebrow at the scene and crossed her arms. “Bart, what are you doing?”
Glancing to the doorway, Bart gave her a trickeresque smile. “Just having some fun. Johnny seems to like it.”
Jesse walked to the carpet and kneeled down, getting a better look at the array of pictures. Most were press photos from newspapers, usually from group shots of her, Wally, Bart, Jay, and Max. Apparently the Garricks went through all of the trouble of getting them properly printed and preserved. Their collection was rather extensive as well, featuring Jesse’s multiple outfits all the way from when she first started and even to her Liberty Belle days.
“Personally, I think the t-shirt and shorts look was the best,” Bart said. “Johnny agrees too.”
“Johnny has barely any depth perception at his age,” Jesse replied, her tone sounding dry. She reached out to Bart and gently took her son from his arms. Judging from the happy babbling noises he made, Johnny seemed to like it. “Anyway, thanks for watching him.”
Bart grinned and started gathering up the old photos. “You’re welcome. What kind of Uncle would I be if I didn’t teach him some history?” In a flash he sped around the room reorganized the pictures back into the albums, then put everything away on a nearby shelf.
In the meantime, Jesse placed her son back in his baby carrier and gave him his favorite toy — a small Wonder Woman plushie that Donna gifted him. Somehow a soft recreation of the Amazonian Princess helped the little guy sleep. Once the toy was in his grasp Jesse gave her son a smile and tickled his stomach, something he very much enjoyed. Once he was relaxed Jesse stood up straight and turned back to Bart.
“Not that I don’t appreciate you babysitting him, but do you have to talk about my outfits like that?” she asked. “They weren’t that bad, weren’t they?”
For a moment Bart seemed to panic, then awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. “Uhhh…”
Once more, Jesse raised an eyebrow. Internally she could feel herself getting annoyed with him, a feeling she was far used to after all these years.
“Uh, what?”
Bart blinked, then averted his gaze. “They would have benefitted from some uh, tailoring… and-” Suddenly he glanced at the doorway. “Oh look! Time for dinner! Come on, Jess!”
And with that said he shut his dumb mouth and sped over to the dining room.
