Hello! I realize this is kind of a vague question, but do you have any advice on expressions to say about babies/toddlers? E.g., how cute, how handsome, you are very big/strong, etc. I have a friend who accidentally called a baby "hot" while learning English bc she mixed it up with "cute," and I live in fear of doing something similar lol. Also I'm not sure if some terms are traditionally more gendered, aside from the actual gender of the word. (Not that disrupting gendered terms isn't worthwhile, but this would be in a customer service context, so I would prefer to stick with what parents expect to hear.) Thanks for any help you can offer!

In general personally wouldn't use hermoso/a "beatufiul/handsome" with babies, but it can happen. I would generally avoid bello/a as "beautiful" because that feels very flowery

[Side Note: es bonito/a is "is cute", está bonito/a is "looks cute" - especially if it's a specific outfit or a special thing, estar is more common... but like I said guapo/a isn't out of the realm of possibility; it's like saying a baby "looks handsome" if they're in a suit I still think está guapo is viable]

I feel like in general if you're trying to specifically say "cute", you say something like precioso/a "cute/adorable", or you say lindo/a or bonito/a. So you might say qué lindo/a or qué bonito/a... sometimes something like qué preciosidad "what a precious (thing/baby)" where that's "preciousness"

Another option that feels cute is qué tierno/a "how sweet/tender" or saying qué ternura which is literally "what tenderness/sweetness"

Things you can call a baby/child that are gender neutral in general are cariño "dear", cielo "dear" [lit. "sky/heaven"], corazón/corazoncito "sweetheart", ricura "sweetness/sweetie/cutie", ternura "tenderness/sweetness", or tesoro/tesorito "treasure"

Those are like terms of endearment and work as a term of address as well and so you could say something like hola, cielo "hello sweetie"... or él/ella es un tesoro "he/she's a sweetie"
