trying to distract myself because my dog has been sick all day to the point we've gotten worried that we've had to call the vet and i'm like trying to be positive but i'm also feeling incredibly guilty because last night she wasn't eating her food properly so i was feeding her food that she didn't eat out of her bowl to her because sometimes she eats it that way .... and what if that's what caused this.... like what if she's just eaten too much because of me (i think my mum fed her a bit of her food too

she's old too and ..... idk i've never seen her like that... she's moving a lot more now than she was a couple minutes ago so i'm hoping it's just dehydration but yeah i'm... anxious to say the least

my mum asked if i wanted to go to the vet too but i just couldn't get myself to go....

Now that I'm reading books by Pratchett's male contemporaries in the 80s and 90s, I'm realising just how ridiculiously ahead of the curve Terry was in terms of writing complex female characters.

I'm reading through the Riftwar Cycle by Raymond E Feist at the moment and (aside from the sub-series that he co-wrote with Janny Wurts) his writing of female characters is incredibly limited (at least thus far; I'm on 'Shadow Of a Dark Queen' at the moment). Virtually every female character is allocated the singular role of either mother, love interest to a male hero, seductive villianess or sex worker.

This book came out in 1994 but it may as well be 1974 given how one-note the female characters are. And that's not even getting into the constant fridging.

Hoping that Feist's writing for women gets better as the series progresses because jeez...

Billy Loomis

Billy's been noticing how tired you are lately. How you can never hang out with him anymore because you're either busy or too tired to do anything. His first thought is that you might be cheating on him because of how distant you are.

But after a few weeks of stalking he now sees that you're actually just working reidiculios hours at work and still going to school full time. He feels really bad for you now, and also guilty for thinking you were cheating on him.

He's going to be softer with you. Offering to help with homework, bringing you food to eat, helping you with chores and just being there for you.

He also might use intimidation to try and get your work to not make you work a ridiculious amount of hours a week.

Stu Macher

Like Billy he'll notice how tired and busy you are all the time but he won't jump to thinking that you're cheating or anything like that. He'll actually go to you and ask what's wrong.

Now Stu isn't the smartest person ever but he has to be a bit intellegent to do all that Ghost face stuff so while he might not be able to help you with things like homework he can bring you food and do a decent job at trying to help you clean up a bit.

He really just wants to make you feel better Y/n and he's trying. He'll go to Billy for advice on how to help you out more and will expand his knowledge on cleaning and whatever you're learning about in class.

RZ Michael Myers

Michael doesn't really understand emotions too well. He has them, although fairly muted. But he can clearly see that after you get home from a full day at work and school that you're very exhausted.

He'll probably just loom around you until he learns what's wrong with you. When he finally gets an answer he's going to understand what you're feeling better, at least for Michael.

Now Michael knows how to do basic tasks so for the most part he can somewhat take care of himself, but he feels like he should be taking care of you too kind of. He sees that's what other people do for people they love, and he loves you.

So don't be surprised if you come home to find a sandwich waiting for you on the kitchen table made by Michael. Or if he just makes you get up and take care of yourself.

Bo Sinclair

Living in Ambrose with the brothers requires a lot of work from everyone. There's often no days off a week and always something to be cleaned, fixed, made, destroyed, hidden, etc. All of this was taking a toll on your mental health.

Bo quickly noticed that you seemed to be moving slower with tasks. How you struggled to get out of bed and even do simple tasks. Now the Sinclairs never talked about mental health while growing up so Bo might think you're just being lazy. But this will quickly change when he sees that you don't even have the energy to feed yourself.

He's going to go to his brothers to try and figure out how to help you because he knows he can't just force you out of this state. He'll be oddly soft when talking to you about if you're doing ok. He'll listen to you when you talk about how hard it is to do anything anymore.

He'll still expect you to do things to help out but now it's more simple tasks compared to before. He'll ask you to try and eat one meal today and to maybe spend time with him at the station. Or he could use your help with setting up a scene at the church.

some general lore for my version of flatland + spaceland. [feel free use, this is too fire to keep to myself]

The more spaceland interacts with flatland, the more corrupted and warped flatland gets from it's original intereptation and becomes more similar to spaceland.

from like color to other oddities. to becoming vaguely more 3d-ish. Though like the limit is kinda like game and watch in smash.

They always stay ridicliously thin, and can sort of "flip" to hide themselves in 3d spaces.

in my lore flatlanders can sort of become "betweenlanders" idk what to call them atm, but not quite flatlander or spacelander though it's not common.

Where alot of the more specific traits aren't seen like not being ridiculiously thin or just generally becoming more spacelander than flatlander. though they are generally seen by flatlanders and spacelanders as highly uncanny

below are like the stuff

1. the probably closest to being able to see a flatlander, the "base" form. inspired by our fellow @fatigued-dreams

2. kind of like the main good flatland movie, visble eyes

3. the other worse film of flatland. Gain color, and like thin "skin"

4. typically arms are developed, but sometimes legs instead. general lack of ability with newly gained limbs. Eyes and Mouth sort of merge bill cipher style. Patterns begin forming and more tougher skin begins developing. Eye also begins moving towards center

5. Kind of like molting, better ability with new limbs eye is more centerlized. A new mouth is beginning to form with newly gained gumms.

6. The not yet seen limbs are now here and are not the best at moving yet. mouth is developed forgor to draw it. gummy but teeth are coming in, often will chew on things impulsievly.

7. the awkward teenage stage, extra eyes or mouths start to sort of form while the flatlander sort of influences how they'll be.

8. Things really settle, usually will begin wearing clothes & sometimes small tuffs of hair will pop up.

9. More abnormal shapes not seen in flatland proper will typically be seen, and like tails or more visble ears will also be seen. typically increased hair growth

10. pico is like a final, but pretty much as developed as any flatlander will be though hardest stage to really reach as this stage is notable for being pretty hard to tell between a shapelander & flatlander unless they willingly show it off. has like added lungs or sacs to hold air or other things typically water or air to help them seem more 3d-y.

so in season three episode one dennis has recently watched a movie about global warming and has seemingly become concerned about the environment. he decides to go to a landfill and sort through garbage and pull out recycling. when he approaches one of the people and asks for a recycling bag he is called a 'nark' and is told to get lost. dennis pushes back, and then we have this exchange.

sage: i saw you pull up in that range rover asriel: is everything okay sage? dennis: yeah no everything is fine. i was just explaining to your friend that i- i want to help you guys out. sage: listen bro i know your type. straight edge, mainline weekend warrior comin' down here in your cashmere sweater with your moussed-up hair-sprayed coif. this isn't just a hobby for us. so why don't you take your phony, subruban, half-assed bullshit someplace else?

sage then walks away and leaves dennis standing alone looking shocked, taken aback, and at a complete loss for words. dennis then searches for frank and charlie.

dennis: look guys lets get outta here frank: look dennis! look at this. dennis: i don't care about that, alright!? you guys are makin' me look like an asshole. i'm out here tryin' to make a difference and you're over here rummagin' around in trash like a couple of narcs, okay? you can't just come down here with your mainline, cashmere, mousse-coif hair spray ... and ... start bein' like a suburban tool. you can't- charlie and frank: are you okay? dennis: i don't know i think i just got punked by a couple of hippies. i gotta do something about this.

dennis then goes on a revenge plan to infiltrate the group of "hippies". he turns on the charm, says that he's devoting himself to the lifestyle and the cause of helping the environment. what he's really doing is cooking up a plan to screw over sage and sleep with his girlfriend, asriel. once again throwing away his convictions, which in season one he said he never really had in the first place. part of his ridiculious plan involves getting sage to chain himself to a tree as a sign of protest. dennis plans this so he can spend alone time with asriel. i find this exchange between dennis and sage very interesting.

sage: wait. if anyone is gonna chain themselves to anything it's gonna be me. asriel: but it was dennis' idea. dennis: no, wait, asriel. he's right. maybe it should be him. sage: right, i'm the one in charge here. dennis: right. you're the one in charge. sage: right. dennis: right.

i think this shows quite a few things about dennis. first of all, when dennis says that sage is the one in charge you can hear it in his voice and see it in his face that he doesn't mean it. we haven't seen any sign of dennis actually forming a plan or acting on it, but he did tell frank and charlie that he had to do something about sage. with dennis' previous track record as viewers we know that dennis is scheming. obviously, dennis is the one in control and not sage and dennis is clearly pleased by that fact. he needs to have control over the situation in order for the outcome to go his way. when he's being told off like he was told off by sage, he doesn't have the upper hand. he's not in control. he had a set plan to do some good and help out with the recycling and that plan was changed, causing dissonance in his brain. however he completely forgets about the recycling plan in favor of a revenge plan. i feel like this relates to season one when dennis said he didn't have any convictions. he does have convictions but being the winner and being in control are more important to him. it's not that he doesn't have convictions, it's that he would give up his convictions for comfort and a feeling of safety.

secondly, i do think that dennis was actually interested in the recycling project and helping ease the environmental impact at the time. he followed through and went against the gang and decided to do something that he believed in. when he went out on his own and did what he wanted, he was immediately was met with rejection. rejection motivates dennis to act, to make decisions. the gangs rejection of belief in global warming only propelled him further into wanting to do something to help, and sage's rejection of his help only pushes him to make a plan for revenge. dennis fears rejection, he molds himself to fit perfectly in every situation by appearing agreeable and like minded. he has played a role his entire life and he doesn't know how to step out of it. he's constantly avoiding rejection, molding himself to fit with the situation and to other peoples beliefs. when he's faced with rejection he breaks and anger spills out of him and he reacts irrationally.

lastly, i want to focus on how dennis reacts when he's insulted by sage. he's erratic, repeating what sage said about him to frank and charlie like they were him. like they had done the 'wrong' things in the first place. he's projecting his own insecurities onto someone else. we see a lot of it in the show, a few times in the early seasons, but this is one of the most clear examples of dennis projecting his own insecurity onto the gang. when charlie and frank question him about what is wrong he admits that he was "punked" by a couple of hippies. he was teased, he was ridiculed, and it made him feel like this. in the future we see dennis tease and ridicule the gang and people separate from the gang often. when people point out his insecurities he feels small, and he can't feel small. so what he does is try his best to make the people around him feel small so he feels big. so he feels like he has the control in the situation.

Anyone elses "'happy" ending for their protagonists still profoundly unhappy? Alistair becomes king. Emory does not leave his side, and they flaunt their relationship because what is anyone going to do about it, really? He refuses to marry any prospects offered to hiim, because they're not Emory. He finds the whole thing ridiculious. How can a woman who saved the land be unworthy of being its queen? He's angry at the situation, and he is King. He will do what he wants. They marry in secret in a chantry. Through my own headcanon and a threesome with Morrigan, Emory births Kiernan. She raises him in the alienage with her family. When he's old enough, she sends him to travel with Morrigan. The mage can keep him safe from those that would like to kill the King's bastard, and can train him. Morrigan gets what she wanted from the Ritual. Emory swore off everything to do with the Grey Wardens. She never wanted to become on in the first place, and stepped down as Commander the moment she was able to. Then the calling comes. She can hear it. Alistair can hear it to. He's tied to the throne with the heavy weight of the crown on his head. He feels a duty to the Wardens, but he cannot go investigate. Emory feels a duty to Alistair, so she goes in his stead.
