Who said “I love you” first Hide--out loud anyway. Kaneki has a bit of trouble expressing his feelings like that.

Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background Hide would. It'd probably be an embarrassing photo of Kaneki, too.

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror Hide. It's always something that will make Kaneki smile. Sometimes it's a sentence from a book Kaneki was telling Hide about, and those really make Kaneki happy because it shows Hide was paying attention.

Who buys the other cheesy gifts Again, Hide. But sometimes Kaneki would retaliate by getting something just as cheesy.

Who initiated the first kiss Kaneki. After one of their usual dates, Kaneki was just so caught up in the moment (while Hide was blabbering about something Kaneki wasn't paying attention to) that he just leaned in and kissed him.

Who kisses the other awake in the morning It's a popular thought in the fandom that Hide is a morning person while Kaneki isn't. But I like to think that Kaneki would be the one to kiss Hide awake.

Who starts tickle fights Hide, but Kaneki would finish them since he's got four extra limbs (rinkaku kagune) for maximum tickling.

Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower Most of the time it's Hide (more as a joke) but if Kaneki is feeling like he needs to be near Hide, he'll ask.

Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch Kaneki. Even though he can't taste test his own cooking and the smell would make him gag, he's still the one who mainly cooks (and it comes out pretty good anyway). Plus I like to imagine that the people Hide works with are always surprised that he was able to bag one of the strongest ghouls that was once considered a menace to society.

Who was nervous and shy on the first date To be honest, I'd say both, but Kaneki more so. They've been best friends for a long time, so Kaneki is comfortable around him. But actually dating Hide just makes Kaneki internally combust. Kaneki was chanting "I can't believe we're dating" like a mantra in his head for most of their date.

Who kills/takes out the spiders Kaneki would kill them. One could be across the room and all he has to do is extend one of his rinkaku to smoosh it.

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk I think they both would. It's pretty normal for Hide to proclaim his love for Kaneki anyway (even when he's not drunk), so most people don't pay it any attention. But when Kaneki does it, it's always so humorous.

He is mimiendo, everyone is in the deepest nonito possible, and I'm glad they are taking their daily nap because they deserve it.

They are both squeezable balls of fur whom accumulate unspeakable horrors, are plushie-shaped, and definitely winter lovers.

I really believe ghouls with rinkaku and ukaku, in case they have the kagune activated, will move it slightly when they see their favorite person or when you give them a very nice compliment.

Something like this, sometimes they get really really excited and hit a random furniture by mistake.

A ship I have with said character:

Uta for one very specific purpose: the alternate plotline that places Uta as a full-blooded human, and the two of them tried and failed to have a child (resulting in a miscarriage). it speaks to how much she knows about the conception of one-eyed ghouls, and also gives her a much more personal connection to her speech in :re where she tells renji about how much she hates the world for favoring humans as the "moral" species. it has the side effect of giving uta an interesting jealousy arc, where he is a human who has wanted nothing more than to be a ghoul. it would also further explain why they are in the clowns and renji, whose motivation stems from specific anger toward arima, isn't.

A BROTP I have with said character: renji! his door's always open for her. wish they interacted more!

A NOTP I have with said character: nothing comes to mind; she's... flexible ;]

A random headcanon: she has a rinkaku kagune, and has the unique gimmick of inducing ROS (or something) with it like an injection. call her scorpion :] (shamelessly stolen from an old discussion with @captain-astors)

General Opinion over said character: very interesting, but wasted potential, as seems to be the norm with female ishida characters. without fandom, i probably would have forgotten who she was (not out of malice; she just has such little screentime to make an impression on most people).

I'm curious. Seeing as some animals can express fear by either fluffing their fur up, or maybe feathers, do you think ghouls can do the same with their kagunes? Especially if it's unintentional?

They do! There are a lot of kagune motions they do on instinct

I’ve mentioned here that when a ghoul is afraid or threatened, they will hold their kagune up in a threat display. These displays can be done on purpose to menace other ghouls, or on instinct when they feel in danger to threaten away anyone who might be dangerous. The kagune is held stiffly and often hardened to a sharp point in places or entirely to show that they are armed and capable of fighting

If a kagune is already out, it is very expressive when startled. Usually that causes it to raise harden into its battle-ready state, and it can look a whole lot like a startled cat or bird. If they have spines or feather-like bits they sharpen and stand on end, but when the ghoul can confirm they’re not in any danger they’ll relax. But it’s definitely unwise to startle a ghoul with their kagune out because some lash out on instinct

They have other displays that can be quite similar to their threat displays or startle responses. One of these are social movements. They vary from ghoul to ghoul, but when kagune are out they’ll use them to show attentiveness and acknowledge people. Bikaku and Rinkaku tendrils may rise and fall or gently sway, Ukaku may gently flap or rise, and Koukaku may turn over and raise, in response to someone else talking or spotting them to let them know they are paying attention and accepting this interaction. If ghouls with kagune out have a conversation they tend to mimic each other in circles, matching each other’s motions as an instinctive confirmation of being part of a group. It’s like how when music with a steady beat is playing for long enough eventually everyone will be nodding or clapping along and will usually do what others around them are doing, it’s a natural rhythm to them

There are displays for attraction as well. Ghouls show off kagune like colorful birds sometimes. Slowly moving and turning over soft kagune is a way of showing off to people around them that they are strong or pretty, and tend to do this when they are being watched by someone they’re interested in. Unlike the conversational rhythm motions, it’s considered significant to mirror these back. If a ghoul is peacocking their kagune and another ghoul matches their motions, it’s a signal that they’re interested. Often ghouls attracted to them have a hard time stifling the instinct to match their kagune motions, it’s an instinctive part of courting

Generally, younger ghouls display more. As ghouls get older they have more control over their kagune, but when they’re young they operate way more on instinct. Ghoul children will have very quick social motions and do huge threat displays whenever they’re scared or angry. Most teenage ghouls have a humiliating awkward stage where they’re unable to stop their kagune from starting or responding to attraction displays around someone they’re attracted to. With time and experience they get much better with it, but every ghoul remembers some time they couldn’t stop their kagune from moving and making it embarrassingly obvious what they’re feeling

so uh. Saiko x Mayu. I have some thoughts-

First off, I think they're both like, the ideal beauty for the other's species. Mayu as we know as humans, was designed to be pretty. She's skinny, has long black hair, and wears expensive things. But if we look at beauty through the eyes of a ghoul, Saiko is more beautiful. Ghouls likely want someone with a bit of weight because it means they have a wealth of food available to them and don't need to worry about constantly fighting and working out to survive. Saiko is also short so she could hide easier and her blue hair might be attractive bc "ooh, shiny", y'know? Not to mention how well she handles her kagune, as well as her single kakugan.

Secondly, they'd both be able to help each other with their problems. Saiko can give Mayu comfortable housing and help her relax so she's not preforming 24/7, while Mayu can help Saiko build her confidence and get out there more.

Finally, look at them and TELL ME they wouldn't be a power couple! They are both so strong and badass! Fighting side by side, they'd be so awesome and just tear shit up! And they have nearly all their weaknesses covered- Saiko has a rinkaku kagune and kokaku quinque and Mayu has a kokaku and bikaku kagune. Their only weakness is long range combat, but they more than make up for that with sheer strength and power.
