Some lore speaks to Zendikar’s Roil being an immune system like response to the Eldrazi. Come the time of Zendikar Rising, the Eldrazi are all gone, are they not? But I believe the Roil still exists. Is Zendikar in the end stage of fighting off a disease where it’s no longer infected but still recovering, or is it permanently damaged by the infection? Or was the immune system metaphor wrong?

This is the philosophical argument behind Nahiri and Nissa's conflict in Zendikar Rising. IMO the Roil is here to stay, Zendikar is just changed, and the problem was that Nahiri wasn't ready to accept it.

Favorite obscure magic faction other than homarids?

If you mean creature types, I've always had a soft spot for licids.

If you mean faction like it's normal definition, then I like the Eternal Pilgrims on Zendikar. They're a group of kor who wandered the plane and stopped off at religious sites to pray and such to Kamsa, AKA Emrakul.

But when the Eldrazi were released from their prisons, Ayli reformatted the group to follow Ulamog in the wake of Emrakul's departure. They have a small appearance in the BFZ story antagonizing Jace and Jori En.

When working on Zendikar Rising, I spent a lot of time thinking about how different people reacted to the fall of the titans, and the Eternal Pilgrims being like "Hey, our gods were real, we weren't wrong" and maintaining their practices even then was interesting to me.

Emrakul's Hatcher is a common from Rise of the Eldrazi, seen here in its Duel Decks: Zendikar vs Eldrazi printing. So, Rise of the Eldrazi had a theme of giant Eldrazis, and one of the way you were meant to cast them were these little 0/1 barely-a-creature tokens with the ability to sac them for mana. Red being the colour of fast mana, got the most powerful versions of these effects, as seen here in this little guy.

Frankly, I'm surprised it never was reprinted in some commander product or other, it really IS quite good ramp, as well as being a great sac provider(I keep my copies in a sacrifice deck). A great example of coloured Eldrazi spells which work well and feel Eldrazi.

The Map of Komas - 1

Overview

The underground of Komas is amongst the most robust of all the realms, in that it extends throughout nearly the entire realm. Certainly not as impressive as the underground world on certain planes such as Ixalan, but it is still expansive.

The sky, day or night, appears as a dark grey. It doesn't even change when the sun rises or sets. The sun is also grey, though a substantially lighter shade, it is among the smallest sun of all the realms. Small enough even, that the denizens of the realms have myths as to why the other stars disappear, which the realmsoul effectively summarizes as 'The pale star is ugly to the others, they hide and run from it, not wanting to be devoured by it like the others.' Because of its combined size and brightness, the realm faces an eternal twilight. The totality of the night constellations creates as much light as the sun of the realm, which isn't much all things considered. Speaking of the night stars, they are all varying shades of brown, ranging from a light tan to a sort of cocoa color.

The Fringe

The Outer Ring of the realm possesses no underground layer, it is simply the area controlled by the Eldrazi. Consumed to such a degree that the 'freshest' mana that can be found upon the realm, is pulled out of the world tree's cosmos.

The lands are covered over and trampled by voracious alien flesh. Their screams and shrieks of hunger warp reality just as much as it calls further festering forms of Spawn and Scions. The true Eldrazi, veritable titans compared to their far more diminutive counterparts, occasionally wander these lands, though they seem more driven to get to the center of the realm than any other realm.

Horrors can occasionally be seen within these masses mounded against the realm's barrier, though they are an uncommon sight. The werewolves, however, having been conscripted rather than being true Eldrazi are torn apart whenever they venture into this area for the mana within their bodies.

What little land can be seen here under the writhing masses of alien flesh is decaying, eroding, and crumbling grey stone and bone. This part of the realm suffers from a decline as the lesser Eldrazi consumes the land and pushes against the realm's barrier.

The skies of this ring are barren, not even clouds can form as the Eldrazi consume it all.
