okay I’m not sure anyone really saw my last post on this subject bc it was attached to another one, but I have a genuine question about an art piece I’m working on and a possible serious issue with it! (It’s a bit long bc of photos so I put it below the cut)

I’ve heard that the rising sun Japanese flag is equivalent to a Nazi swastika flag, and to avoid using similar motifs or styles in art and things. As you may know I’m doing a tarot series, and this was my design for the sun card

And I’m not sure if I make the sun yellow or pale purple if it will be different enough for it to not be offensive. I based it off the *actual* tarot card but it is designed to match up with the moon, which is why it’s off centered.

So do you guys think it’s different enough from the flag? I would like input here because I don’t want to offend or hurt anyone, especially now that we have Korean members of the fanbase!

THE RISING SUN FLAG IS A SYMBOL FOR A WAR CRIME IN WW2

As a Korean fan of tua I'm kinda disappointed about this scene in 306. The Rising Sun Flag was a symbol for the japanese military during WW2, which committed a lot of terrible war crimes during this time to a lot of eastern Asian countries, like China, Korea, or Taiwan. I honestly have seen this flag in many western media (e.g. Victorious, Never Have I Ever, etc.) so I really wished that a lot of people would recognize it. Sorry for my terrible english, I'm to upset rn to check my grammar.

personal update 9.23.2023 🍊🍈🍉

good things that happened this week:

really great double feature movie night with quint and lilith! lily hasnt been able to make them in a while due to work so it felt like a treat for her to be there again, and we watched green goblins last stand and american movie, which made a really incredible and impactful double feature for all of us

sailor ended up being ok after getting sick! maybe a weird thing to put here, but our cat had a reaction to a flea collar (dont use them, guys) which was a really scary and stressful thing to happen, but we got lucky and he was totally fine! i am so very very grateful

my voucher for a binder came in!!! i havent been able to wear a binder in forever between pain issues, growing, money, etc, but a local trans org offers vouchers to help people afford gender affirming products, and the partnered shop does fittings, so ill have a free and comfortable binder soon T_T <3

had a particularly fun board game night :) kit and max, both usually very busy friends that dont make it to too much, were able to join us this week! kit is a super chaotic player in any format and here to slay got wild with 5 players so it was a ton of fun. i love my friends so much

darren ended up absolutely loving an album i recommended to him 🥹❤

ate with lily! we got there too early for our movie so while we waited we goofed around at a department store looking at halloween decorations, said hi to all the animals at the petco (including a hamster that was doing cute bouncy playful laps around his enclosure, sleepy ferrets that were cuddling each other, some teeny tiny kittens, and three budgies all trying and failing to share a two-bird birdhouse), and met the most huggable dragonite plush at gamestop. then we saw bottoms, which was so much fun :)

What are some censorship rules that you feel you could most comfortably poke fun at without feeling like you could get in some kind of trouble or ending up on some watchlist for doing?

I guess the FOSTA/SESTA censorship law is a pretty miserable piece of legislation that has had a net negative impact on society since day 1. If I could find something funny about it, I'd definitely go for that one.

Although, you can make fun of it directly without being put on some watchlist, though keep in mind this is the law that laid groundwork for online surveillance/suppression of sex workers, and is basically the blueprint for some anti-abortion legislation proposals that would make it illegal to discuss obtaining abortions online. so if some people have their way, someday you COULD get put on a list for giving tips and info online to those seeking abortions. but i digress.
