Nancy put a protective arm around DuPont’s tensed shoulders. “Don’t worry, monsieur,” she hissed in the restauranteur’s ear, “no one will harm you while you are my prisoner!” Marcel grunted but whether from gratitude or resentment she couldn’t tell. The man had said two of his people were also working with the cartel. “Your, er, associates, monsieur,” Nancy continued, “is one of them a woman?” Marcel snorted. “A woman?” he repeated derisively. “Of course not!” But then stopped, realising how incongruous his sexism was when he had just been captured by a woman. Nancy was used to misogyny in her line and took no heed. Instead, she braced, ready for action once more as the female form came into focus.

Then her face widened into a broad smile. “George!” she exclaimed as she recognised her friend. “Oh it’s good to see you!” She ran forward to embrace the dark-haired girl, laughing with delight and relief. “We had tried everywhere else, so we figured you had to be here in the restaurant cellar!” George replied, hugging Nancy. “This is a very fishy operation,” she went on, “and I don’t mean the menu!” Nancy nodded. “I know, George.” she smiled. “Monsieur Dupont here has made a full confession!” George looked over at Nancy’s bound captive. “Honestly, Nance, you are amazing!” she laughed.

“We need to get him to the sheriff so he can tell him everything he told me.” Nancy told her friend earnestly. “Dupont has enough on the drugs ring to sink it entirely in River Heights!” George nodded. “I don’t think he is a one man band though, Nance.” she replied. “Bess is in the restaurant now, trying to see if she can winkle out a confession too.” Nancy walked over to the surly looking Dupont. “Maybe if they see their boss is caught, it will encourage his accomplices to surrender too.” she suggested. Dupont just glared at her. George joined Nancy and together they walked the glowering Dupont down the cellar corridor and towards the stairs leading to the restaurant. “Ready to meet your public, monsieur?” Nancy asked her prisoner ironically.

Free Palestine or I will not vote Biden in '24

As an American citizen, I demand U.S. support to:

1. End Israeli occupation of Gaza, the West Bank, and Golan Heights.

Israel, with one of the most powerful militaries in the world, has inflicted violence continuously in these areas since 1967. Has it worked? Obviously not. When we reject every other avenue of liberty, the oppressed must resort to violent resistance (just like the USA did to become a country). This cycle of violence and retaliation against Palestinians and Syrians will not end until Israeli occupation ends.

2. Discredit and disavow Israeli falsehoods and propaganda.

It's too easy to delegitimize Palestine's government by evoking the great bogeyman, "terrorism." There's no credible evidence that Hamas prioritizes civilian targets, while there's decades worth of evidence of illegal and unjustifiable Israeli targeting of Palestinian civilians. U.S. media eagerly amplifies every baseless claim of the Israeli war machine while quietly, if at all, admitting to its lies or bad faith. We must listen to Palestinian voices and allow them the right to report on their own situation.

3. Reject the premise that any criticism of Israel, or Palestinian claim to independence, is antisemitism.

This is textbook facism: "If you're not with us, you're against us." It's reactionary, it's ethnonationalist, and we must not give it credence. Nor can we give in to provacateurs who bait us into endless debate and fractious argument. Reject the premise and move on.

4. Hold Israel accountable by international law for its crimes against humanity.

11,000+ killed in Gaza. Thousands more injured, traumatized, and radicalized. Countless more victim to retaliatory violence in the West Bank and Golan Heights. Constant, credible reports of abuse and atrocity. And all this just in the last two months.

We have decades worth of proof of Israeli war crimes and ethnic cleansing. Their leadership is openly calling for genocide using language we only hear during the darkest moments of history. This is what we're taught to stand against. This goes against the core values codified by centuries of American law and rhetoric. I thought this is why people go into politics (at least initially)- to be in a position to take a stand and make a real difference. To uphold the right of all humans to freedom and self-determination, not occupation.

Not-so-friendly reminder that weaponizing the oppression of queer people in Palestine to support Israel makes no sense.

Yes, there is homophobia and transphobia in Palestine. Yes, queer Palestinians do lack a lot of basic rights. But guess what? Israel isn't welcoming those Palestinians or furthering their rights, they don't care who is queer or not when they bomb schools, hospitals, mosques and churches. They don't care who is queer or not when they kick thousands of people out of their homes, or threaten them with a nuclear fucking bomb.

Israel being portrayed as queer-friendly is straight up rainbow-washing because queer Palestinians don't have that same treatment. They're living under apartheid because of Israel, and not just Gazans, but people in the West Bank and the Golan Heights where Hamas doesn't rule, but I barely hear people talking about that.

Even if you somehow convinced me that every single Palestinian was homophobic, which isn't true, how exactly is bombing them going to help our cause? Do we treat homophobes in the West the same way? No we fucking don't. You only say that because dehumanizing a group of people you'll never have to meet IRL is very easy, but I'm sure you wouldn't kill your homophobic aunt Linda, or suggest she should be murdered for being a bad person. That has never been how we operate because it's nonsensical. We don't want revenge on homophobes, we want equity and Israel isn't providing that for Palestinians, queer and straight alike.

Countries can't become more open minded about queer people when they're being invaded and genocided either, when they're starved and shelter-less. That's not gonna be at the top of their list. Peace comes first, and then social rights. The fact that queer Palestinians, queer Muslims, queer Arabs, Christian Palestinians and Jewish Palestinians (fuck, Jewish people around the globe are protesting against Israel too) exist and speak openly against Israel should tell you there's more to the conversation than "if a person is discriminating me we're now entitled to strip them of all human rights and also murder them in cold blood".

I don't appreciate my identity being used disingenously to further the genocide of a different group of people. Whatever a homophobe in Palestine would do to me, a Chilean homophobe would also do right here where I live. I don't have to imagine a scenario where I'm surrounded by homophobia. I am gay, I live it, and genocide isn't my solution to it.
