revisiting riverdale season 3 episode 4 "the midnight club" post-season 7 is insane because so many of the story elements that are constants in the different incarnations of the main cast (riverdale/50sdale) are also true for the parent characters. and they're portrayed by the same actors. do you understand? fred & hermione dated because archie & veronica did and alice & fp dated because betty & jughead did. in a sense they're just yet another alternate main cast, so even when portraying the parents these characters are still stuck in their own respective narratives because that's what riverdale is about

Is it 2 years in the making? Almost but not quite 👀

Midway through his first class back at college for semester two, Jughead found himself completely unable to concentrate on his professor.

Instead, his computer’s cursor strayed away from the poem he’d downloaded as he grit his teeth and opened up Google. He typed into the search engine: Can you hallucinate seven months after a concussion? And waited for the instant flow of information.

The results weren’t giving him much optimism, but if the insanity of his life the previous year had taught him anything it was that he had to accept everything for what it was. And right now, his life was forcing him into the path of a person who had tried to frame his girlfriend for his murder.

Elle stirred in his arms and blinked up at him. When he looked down at her, he saw the tell-tale signs that she was about to start crying. Almost automatically, he reached into the side of his backpack and pulled a bottle out of the warmer. Elle hungrily accepted it just as she made a gurgle of annoyance.

He noted the side-eye glances some of his classmates gave him, but their attention quickly went back to the projector screen with which the professor attempted to explain her poetry analysis. He snuck a glance at Donna - but she wasn’t looking at him, merely smirking ahead.

don’t get me wrong i love that season seven is letting us relive the beginning of choni, but i really wish more of it was from toni’s pov, we got cheryl’s the first time and we already know she’s struggling with comphet mainly because of her family/upbringing (which is totally valid of course) but i really wanted to see more of toni’s perspective this time around since in all six prior seasons we’ve rarely seen it

i wonder if there is a point to be argued about riverdale's "loss of innocence" point of no return being archie's affair with miss grundy. something about archie being the ultimate symbol to n jughead of what riverdale should be; ie the perfect all american boy, pure and innocent but ultimately the willful ignorance of adults and the rot that lies just under the surface of riverdale gets to him too eventually, like it had gotten to everyone else but it's what drags all the filfth to the surface.. something about the connection between his and grundy's date at the river and the boat ride on sweetwater river

#the thing is that everyone's parents are mostly the cause of the problems in the riverdale teens like i say mostly but it really is all of #them except archie in the pilot because fred is supposed to be the one good one of course he gets mythologized as a saint after he dies #which bears down extremely on archie who wants to be like him so bad but we have to wait until another adult who isn't his parents gets to #archie (bc his parents are fine) for the story to start. does anyone understand what i'm saying at all #riverdale

I was just wondering, since you're already editing it, were you considering adding another line option for 'murdered'? I feel like that adds a whole other layer of comedy for like Reggie and Reggie Prime or the everything going on with Percival.

thank you!! i really really wanted to put murder in it but i dont think there's room they're always killing each other. like it's so unfair that the non riverdale watcher will think chad is just some ex of veronica's and not her ex husband that she murdered. or that archie once killed everybody and everybody once killed archie :(

im working on making a version of it with all the parents in there too (which got kind of fucked by me adding the s5-6 temporary partners and love interests tbh bc there's no room now) and maybe putting murder on that one

fred andrews really watched his son get convicted for murder, get sent to juvie/prison, escape, then run away after being exhonerated, and when mr andrews finally finds him, instead of being like "hey archie let's get you home get you some therapy and work on that martyr complex of yours", decides to drive his teenage son to the canadian border and say "damn it sure would be nice if we could live in the wilderness together, to bad we can't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" even though there's literally no reason he can't go with him and gives archie their dog before DRIVING AWAY AND ACTING AS THOUGH HE NEVER SAW HIS SON.

#and people are really out there saying he's the only decent parent in riverdale #rule number one of riverdale: there are no good parents #fred andrews #riverdale #riverdale season 3 #archie andrews #i mean listen #i understand that most media centered around kids/teens needs the parents to be a little absent or bad in order for the plot to work #bc if the parents are present and taking care of their kids then it's less likely they'll get into as much trouble as they do #and i'm not against that as a plot device in the slightest! #but when characters esp teens act as tho a parent is the best that doesn't mean that it's true #obvs fred's one of the better ones since he's one of the few not directly tied to a murder #but he's not great! #anyway #can you tell i'm rewatching riverdale season 3 lol #thinking a lot about the core four's relationships with their dads this rewatch #and about veronica and jughead parallels #but that's another post #myposts
