Somewhere back in the end of January 2017, a new show came to us, in an era where all the shows we grew up with ended.
Tonight, RIVERDALE is coming to its end. I know some of us aren’t even sure of what’s going on there and how it went from great time to .. this but let us remember it brought so much great moments and enjoyable ones and obviously heartbreaking ones.
Rip CW Riverdale (January 26th 2017- August 23 2023) 2400 days on the mark, THANK YOU AND FAREWELL ❤️

I honestly think Midge is just going to give birth to baby Anthony again. Like we won’t necessarily see her give birth but they’re going to look into the camera and say they’re naming the baby after Toni. Giving the writers a convenient out of the Tangs marriage.
Alt/coinciding theory is that Adult Anthony and 2020’s Toni and Fangs are still in the sex bunker.

What is the Blossom Curse?
So, @zenon-karr tagged me in a post speculating about a possible alive Jason in the new timeline and though I loved the theory, I personally don't want Jason to come back. For Cheryl's sake specifically.
As I mentioned in their post, Cheryl has dragged the corpse of Jason around through the entire series both metaphorically and literally. Even after the viking funeral of season 4, she must have hobbled her ass down the river to collect his bones. She then keeps them in a chest in her bedroom into adulthood.
Cheryl cannot let him go. Ever. (Neither can Penelope, but that's a different story for a different day.)
I would say that Cheryl's inability to let Jason go is her central conflict as a character. Her inability to let the past go, in general, is one of her most defining traits.
Jason is the biggest example, but she's unable to let Toni go as well. Cheryl is always preoccupied with the past and that's common for people with trauma.
So. Stay with me.
What is the Blossom Curse?
The Blossom Curse seems to be Cheryl's personal cross, but the first time is mentioned is actually back in season 1. Penelope claims the Blossoms have been cursed ever since brother killed brother back in the day.
There's another Blossom Curse as well. Abigail's in RiverVale. Her curse is to remain alone and unloved for all time.
Now, what do all of these "curses" have in common?
The past.
Something bad happened and now everyone is fucked forever.
Even if the Blossom Curse turns out to be some real magical problem they have to solve...I think it's really emblematic of Cheryl's real problem and the larger problem that pretty much every character has to face.
The weight of legacy. The sins of the past. The inescapable cycle of small town life.
However you want to put it, it's the same.
So, honestly, I think the Blossom Curse is Cheryl's grief. I think it was Abigail's grief. I think it was Penelope's grief (for being pulled into this family she hated so much).
Because grief and trauma are curses. They make you feel powerless to change, to grow, to be whole again.
But the thing about grief is that it can be healed. It can be released. We can grow around it and become stronger than we were before.
My only real hope for the finale of this show is that Cheryl finally heals her grief. I hope she says goodbye to Jason and that she accepts his death fully.
Riverdale is a show that always surprises me, but I hope (dare I say pray) that they finally let my girl move on.
Toodles. <3

Alright so I know everyone is freaking out about Barchie’s alleged proposal (no I’m not going to watch the trailer to see it with my own eyes. Eek) but I, for one, am optimistic that we’ll finally have an explanation for THESE COMIC BOOK PAGES that haven’t shown up yet:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know what you’re thinking: but we saw these pages come to life in 6x05 right ?
NOPE.
We got THIS stunning scene of course:
Tumblr media
But I would like to submit to you that both Jughead and Betty are wearing entirely different outfits in this scene. In the comic book, Betty’s hair is down and she’s in a short sleeve wedding dress, and Jughead is in a suit.
So does that mean that the Barchie wedding in this comic book, where Betty has apparently left Archie at the alter to run into Jughead’s arms during their last second on Earth… hasn’t happened yet???????
I sure think that might be the case.
Also shoutout to @scratchtovoid who had the comic book hug ready to go at my request 😂

Theory time! Bc I'm sleep-deprived and slightly tipsy (Also shout-out to my roommate who has heard most of these as rants via DM)
(For future reference, this was written after S7e11)
Spoilers Abound, most of these are barely believable, but like Riverdale, just enjoy the camp/ the potential.
The Rocky Horror song is foreshadowing that the memories are coming back – it's the first time they've really actively (as far as I remember) broken the 50s illusion, Veronica is absolutely the type to have watched RHPS, and if not her, defo Kevin.
The Milkman is Lou Cipher/the devil (Why? Idk, you tell me)
The Tabitha that came back in episode 9 is present-day Tabitha, and 50s Tabitha is still on tour with her parents. I don't really have any evidence for this other then it's pretty far into the season for none of that plotline to have appeared and I think it would be a fun plot twist
The reason Jughead kept his memories initially (speaking of, I have a whole rant about why erasing his memories episode 1 was an awful decision on the writer's part, I may post that at some point, lmk.) was because Tabitha subconsciously wanted him to remember her.
They're actually all dead in S7, and the 50s illusion is just purgatory. Tabitha is working behind the scenes to try and bring them back to life– if you 'die' in purgatory you can't be brought back, hence the milkman storyline I guess? Possibly an agent of Pickens. Tabitha erased Jughead's memories so people wouldn't panic and thus increase the likelihood of someone getting hurt. Hence why Julian Blossom is alive. My only evidence for this tbh is that when all the 'first-borns' and Jughead dies the afterlife thingy was also 50s themed. (Update: checked the scene in e1, Jughead even questions if this is the afterlife, and Tabitha denies it, saying that she had a plan-B, which was this. So she could either be lying, or as it is purgatory, telling the truth, as this is not 'The sweet hereafter')

I think that in order to save Riverdale and Rivervale, Jughead and Archie should kiss on the bed with the bomb - because this is the only kiss between the Core Four that never happened.

It’s funny to me bc they realize that the married life AU means varchie are also endgame yes? Like they have to realize that theory does not bode well for their ship. Especially cause Archie wakes up from the mines and only wants to see Veronica lol 😭😭
i'm sure that anyone who is a big b/a shipper is going to drop the parts they don't like (85% of the series since s1) and decide that whatever happens is going to end in: b/a baby/engagement/wedding like they always do.
big laughs if it's all in archie's head tho because that would explain so much right now. he has no concept of who betty is as a person, would definitely give her a jughead-esque temptation, still not make it jughead, and would definitely manage to get veronica single while not being able to date someone else before she had to deal with her feelings for him all while everyone thinks his daddy issues are positive character traits.
most of the above is a joke.
...okay, some of the above is a joke.

I have questions
Is the answer to all of them going "back to the future/present" Jughead taking off the 50s hat and putting the beanie back on once? Why was it left for him? And where is the beanie now - did Veronica's set decorators from Hollywood remove it from the train car when they redecorated?

Okay I don't like to read season or even episode synopsis for shows. I prefer to go into each new episode completely oblivious to what's about to go down. So this could already be confirmed but I'm pretty sure it isn't. Based on the times, the fact that they're pretty much rehashing season 2 Cheryl, and Penelope fucking Blossom once again being a thorn in all our sides..... I'm very concerned Cheryl's going back to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. Except it's the 50s not the 2010s. So breaking in and out of that asylum is not only harder, it's probably downright impossible. Not to mention they wouldn't just have her watch movies and read the bible, they'd for sure try and zap her. At least in S2, at the end of the day, they lived in a fairly open minded town in terms of that. They had their socio economic divides, but the town wasn't turning on people for being gay, just their parents. But now, it's not just a parental issue...it's a societal one. Meaning no one would look at Penelope like she was a horrible mother for sending Cheryl there. They'd get it. And I for one don't trust the writers to not put us through that once again...if the way this season is progressing so far is any indication.
Anyway, I really hope I'm wrong and they drop this nonsense soon but we're only 4 episodes in to a show that still does 20+ episode long seasons.

just some random riverdale s5-6 thoughts
disclaimer: you're welcome to disagree but don't be rude about it
okay, so i thought about it because im rewatching riverdale for like the 4th or 5th time and i find seasons 5-6 to be very similar to the first two seasons of riverdale, especially when it comes to internal conflicts the core 4 are facing, their behaviours and even things they say
it's like season 6 mirrors the first two seasons
let's start with jughead! do you remember fp from the beginning? he was a drunk, good-for-nothing father at the beginning of the show. once he went to jail for his role in covering up jason's murder, he gets clean, goes to aa and wants to leave the serpents. he even works at pop's after being released from jail. he only comes back to the serpents to fix jughead's mistakes (the whole penny peabody debacle). and back then, jughead really disliked his father. so in s5-6, we find out that he became everything he hated as a teenager in his dad: a drunk who can't keep up with the world around him. s1-2 jughead desperately wanted to belong (despite his im a weirdo speech), and have a family which throughout seasons 1-5 he found either in the serpents or within the core 4. once he's left alone: his family doesn't seem to be in touch with him (wtf happened to fp? and jellybean?), his friend group fell apart, and the serpents are too far away, he just turns the alcohol. probably because of loneliness. so we have him mirroring his father's arc: he first has to get clean, work at pop's, and show support for the town he hurt (bc jason's death def hurt riverdale). of course, unlike fp, he didn't clean up a murder, he just completely exposed every single person in his book, especially the serpents (and i'll forever laugh at the fact that he changed fangs' name to toothy).
veronica also mirrors her father. hiram appears in season 2 and the first time we get an insight into his character is when archie goes into his study. above his desk, hiram keeps veronica's portrait "to keep him honest". it doesn't stop him from killing papa poutine or doing other nefarious things but she's there: a symbol of the one morally good thing he has in his life. veronica keeps her father's portrait for the same reason. he also keeps her honest but he's there as a symbol of evil. he doesn't symbolize just his sins, he's also a symbol of veronica's biggest regret and, arguably, the worst thing she's ever done: killing her own father. so he's there to keep her away from evil and stop her worst instincts. it's very interesting bc veronica is also on the verge of the law, the only difference between her and hiram is that she actively tries not to hurt anybody, especially those she loves. (which is what ended up being hiram's demise)
so archie also mirrors his dad. idk if you guys remember when archie wanted to live in new york with jughead? write music? enjoy life? it was so long ago but archie really didn't want to follow in his father's footsteps. he was dead set on forging his own path. of course, it all changes in s2, when his dad almost dies after the black hood attack. this is when archie's path changes and is no longer soft and sweet; it takes a darker turn. archie we see in s5-6 mirrors fred from s1-2. he's the soul of riverdale, someone who wants to unite the town, save it. we know that fred's dreams at a young age were to settle down and build a better riverdale. archie currently wants the exact same thing. that's why he's being so pushy with betty about taking the next steps, despite her clearly not wanting the same things (every time he mentions kids or marriage or whatever, she gets silent, cagey, and says nothing. take a hint, arch).
bonus: kevin was again so obsessed with cruising and back in s1-2, whenever he wasn't doing that, he'd find himself with moose. which is exactly what's happening now as well. just saying.
and now my fav: betty! i love betty. it's kind of hard to see her in s5-6 because most of the time we see her through archie's eyes and they're not doing betty justice. we mostly see her either trying to catch the trashbag killer or having a relationship moment with archie. she is, though, the only person reflecting herself from season 2. do you remember that episode when the black hood sent her to a murder house where she put on the hood for the very first time? that was such a defining moment for betty bc for the first time, she saw her inner darkness, she saw all that she is and the potential for evil she apparently has. this was such a crucial moment for betty! this was the moment she stop being the girl next door, and whatever dreams she had of a normal life were gone. betty before and after this moment are two different bettys with different wishes and outlooks on life. i believe that just as it was back then, betty is looking for an anchor, someone or something to steady her and keep her on the light side. but from that moment in the house, betty was always dancing on the line between good and bad. she doesn't want anyone to stop that dance, she just needs someone to join it.
which is what brings me to the relationship between betty and archie.
when betty described archie as the light in the dark and i remember thinking that this line was somehow familiar. and sure enough, i found it: in season 2. during veronica's confirmation, she tells archie "you're my beacon in the night". she's also trying to protect archie from her family's mob ways, keep him good and honest, and not taint him with the evil doings of her family members. throughout the entire episode, she describes archie as this light in the dark, the good amongst the evil of the world. this is also such a veronica line who looks at archie in the exact way jughead wants to later portray him: as the hero. the symbol of what's good and right in the world.
that one conversation between betty and archie is also almost a word-for-word copy of the conversation she had with jughead. it's insane how similar those are.
both of those situations are very similar to those of their previous relationships which is very weird. why would betty say such veronicasque line and archie something so similar to what jughead did? it's almost impossible and sometimes those moments made me think that we have another story in front of us (comic book, whatever), instead of what's actually happening. and i wouldn't put it past riverdale.
but i also have this feeling that none of the couples we're seeing right now are endgame. so betty and archie, jughead and tabitha, cheryl and heather, toni and fangs, they're not going to end up together bc they're set for break up.
betty and archie will break up bc they want different things. that dream of a fence and this dream of betty as a housewife or whatever is something that her mother once wanted (you know, this whole perfect family trope), but betty doesn't. she says it so clear that she's not ready for it and that she doesn't even know if she wants it in the first place. and why would she? her whole thing in s5-6 was about those serial killer genes, it's doubtful she wants to pass them on. even her serial killer bestie the trashbag killer points out that what archie wants doesn't align with what she wishes for. and idk what's up with archie's nesting wish? is it because he lacks family and longs for it? his mum is nowhere to be found, his uncle is gone for now, and for most of the s5-6, he wasn't very helpful. tbh, i don't like him this season bc he's insanely pushy about the whole babies and picket fence thing and i just dislike men like that so yeah
jughead and tabitha might break up bc jughead is super hung up on betty. there are clearly some unresolved feelings there and tbh, tabitha deserves better. also since she's an angel, she's probably going to have to do some other things? like helping people? idk, rafael doesn't seem to be earthbound so i guess we'll see what happens with tabitha.
heather seems to be a placeholder for toni and she's going to be out of the picture bc we never really got to know her. she's there to help cheryl with magic and she makes her happy but we're not getting enough of her for the show to keep her.
and toni and fangs are set for failure from the moment toni lies about why she wanted to get married. and she did it to win the custody battle, not because she loves fangs so much (although i think she does love him).
ultimately, what keeps me wondering is whether we'll come back to the moment of the explosion. this is when rivervale happened and the universes started leaking. bunker jughead didn't do a clean break and we're either going to face another recreation of it or we're gonna go back in time. s6 has to end rivervale. rivervale was leaking into riverdale and maybe that's also why some of the stories seemed off and the characters were also a little bit misplaced at times. and what will this new riverdale be like once its twin universe is gone? once they don't affect each other? who stays the same and who changes? those are some big questions and im sure s6 finale will leave us with a cliffhanger. or the question it always leaves us with: what now once this new tragedy is over?

Ok, I really absolutely hate Riverdale right now, but I can't help myself not to speculate. Lol.
I'm not going to lie, right now I'm not going to wait for the final season. But I think that I will make a final decision when bts and details begin to appear in the autumn. Therefore, a few scattered thoughts that have visited me now, and which I have had for some time.
1/ Roberto said that we will see the first kisses, dates and relationships. But we already saw it all in s1. Why would we remake something that worked so well once? Only if we see it all again. He also said that the characters would have an emotional memory. Maybe we'll see some of our favorite characters going through real deja vu again when they go back to the old script?
Whatever reboot they've got in mind, s7 isn't a new show, it's the final season of a show that's been on the air for 7 years. They don't have new viewers, they shoot for those who have invested and followed from the very beginning. Then I don't see the point in making it completely new and different than what the fans are really expecting. But we also know that Riverdale is now basically a one-writer show, so they can really do a clean slate. I don't know what my thoughts are on this. I hope, but I do not expect anything good.
2/ In Rivervale, Betty said that in high school she always wondered who she would end up with - Jughead or Archie. Which was a total lie because we know she didn't. Maybe in s7 they will try to tell that story? Betty will have a crush on Archie, but her friendship with Jughead will make her doubt her feelings. This could be a really good drama that I could invest in. Too bad these writers don't let their characters really deal with their emotions.
3/ They really allowed almost all the characters to have some emotional stuff with their ex partners in s6. Cheryl, Toni, Kevin, Fangs, Veronica. All of them, in one way or another, brought up conversations about their past relationships and had, even the most insignificant, reactions to new couples. Some were allowed to get real longing for their exes - Veronica and Cheryl.
But Betty, Jughead and Archie seem to have completely given a shit about any emotional reactions regarding their new relationship. None of them cared and never once reacted to their interactions. Jughead didn't say anything when Betty and Archie started dating. However, we do know that he never recovered from how his relationship with Betty ended, and he's still hurt by that kiss. Betty completely ignored Jughead's new relationship, and she didn't say a word about how her relationship with Archie might be even a little emotionally out of place. However, she still felt guilty about that kiss in high school. This means that she is not completely frozen, that it still worries her. But not enough to think about the inappropriateness of a relationship with a guy, because of an old kiss with whom she still feels guilty.*
Archie of course never thinks, we know that. But we also know that he felt guilty towards Jughead because of that kiss. He also hid his relationship with Betty in s5, mainly because of Veronica, but I think because of Jughead too. As much as we mock at Riverdale, they actually try to write these characters as friends, so I think Archie's guilt over Jughead is still there. But he didn't show the slightest hint that he was now worried. He also started a relationship with Betty a week after his painful breakup with Veronica and felt no emotion about it. He didn't show any reaction when Veronica got back together with Reggie at the same time. And after all this, with a clear conscience, he went to her for the ring, as if this was the most normal thing for their relationship.
So what am I trying to say here. Betty, Jughead and Archie are the only ones who don't exist emotionally in s6. They are also the only ones who were inside the explosion in Archie's house. Could this be intentional?
---
All three of these thoughts seem to be separate. But now, when I have formulated all this, I think that it all makes sense and connection. I think the bomb under Archie's bed is still in play, or at least the aftermath of that explosion. And if these writers are smart enough, they can actually do it right and beautifully. But damn, I don't hold my breath. Ted is basically an asshole and will bully us for most of the season no matter how many episodes they get. I really hope for a short season, because then we have a chance to get a good dynamic story, and not the filler mess that was in season 6.
---
*It was a strange sentence, but I hope you understand me. I really accept the help here, because my knowledge of English was not enough for such a complex grammatical construction.

cheryl and veronica are both misandrists but the difference between the two of them is that cheryl's trying to single-handedly turn society into a matriarchy with her weird little cults, while veronica would love to be the only feminist on planet earth just so she can feel superior to everyone else

OK, so back when my roommate and I were first watching S1, we ended up coming up with a semi-joking theory– That as in S1 we actually never find out what Jughead was doing on July 4th, (Fred Andrews lies in order to acquit him, but we never learn what he was actually doing), the rest of the show never actually happened, Jughead never got acquitted, was then wrongly convicted, and the rest of the show is him writing from prison. Like, maybe he learns some stuff, just the most unavoidable twists, like Hal being the Black Hood, a cult leader being arrested, or Archie being sent to prison but like, most of it is made up as it goes, hence the plot-holes and dropped storylines and constantly repeating character arcs. Like, after a certain point, he'll know these people less and less. So he sticks to what he knows.
But S7 is the outlier to this. And I don't know what would've changed (I had thoughts of either he dies or is released and so the narrative allows itself to be rewritten) but something definitely changed
