A) rich wwx!! As in- he's like rich af, but people don't know it? Like he's very normal about it but doesn't advertise the fact that he could buy everything he wants. I'd also like if he's big on donating, or just helping people in general and stuff.

B) wwx doing dangerous stuff like volunteering in places with natural disasters/civil unrest, etc. Him being very into activism and stuff

C) jealous sizhui...like- he's jealous of wwx paying attention to other kids and stuff. Maybe something like- wwx thinks sizhui has lwj as father figure, doesn't remember him, or maybe he'll be bothered if wwx acts too familiar or something? So he keeps his distance. It could be a modern au too, or any fic where wwx adopts other kids/is a mentor figure to them/has close relationship with them and sizhui is jealous of that??

I'm upset seeing the event tasks. Ik this is my personal opinion, but they are wayyyyy to easy. It is so easy to find Warriors fan art, people don't even bother to properly credit. This led to a wave of newcomers who don't really care about warriors (or community guidelines) and just want a frame with minimal effort. The timeline is flooded with RiverSpirit's art and Jayfeather clones.

They should've, at some point, include drawing from scratch, like drawing your profile pic and/or profile header or whatever you call this thing on the top. Or DTIYS.

Yes, drawing is harder that finding a free picture from Google, but isn't that the whole point of a challenge? I think that's what should be encouraged? No matter the level of skills, a picture made from scratch > a picture taken from another artist. Or from ChatGPT

Riverspirit was my jam in 2015 i loved their stuff omg, same with niftysenpai, finchwing, silverwolfnight, mizu-no-akira, xJaystarzx, ginjaninja and all the old wc comics (EOAR, The Perfect Green, the recruit, the owls flight to name a few) and more people im probably forgetting LOL i love going back and looking at old wc stuff the fandom changes and adapts so much it makes the og stuff hit differently, heres to too many more years of making battle cats content LOL 🤝

it was the time when all i wanted to do was make stuff and show it to my friends and nothing else :,)

crazy how i recognize every single user you mentioned as well as every comic LMFAO. kinda feel like going back to reread them to be blasted with the nostalgia beam. AND YEAH, i dont know how to describe it but everythings so different in terms of talking about these dumb books in comparison to the usual stuff now, comes with growing up and recognizing its flaws i suppose, but i think thats a funny part of what keeps us here too is what im guessing lolol. heres to us drawing these cats forever and ever HAHAH 🤝

Farlands Folklore - Mapleshade and Appledusk

Before Overseers and sealed Theurgists, there were five clans but instead of peace, they lived on the tips of the founder's claws. Instead of sharing prey, they fought over it. Instead of open sectors, there were scent-marked marked boundaries defended with teeth and fangs. The influence of the Lost One drove them apart and shattered the clans from a group of caring cats to fearful and guarded ones. In this point of time, any relationship between cats of other sectors - sorry clans - were frowned upon unless you were getting something out of it.

In this turbulent climate there were two cats I'm sure you've heard of.

Mapleshade and Appledusk.

Mapleshade was a loyal member of ThunderClan and a very powerful theurgist. She fought and survived many brutal battles and her pair of torn ears were proof of it. She was a highly valued warrior and even the worst predators would turn tail and flee when they spotted her marching the borders.

Appledusk for his part was a powerful but cowardly RiverClan warrior. Some cats think that he was where rumors of RiverClan laziness stem from but I'm sure those comments were added afterwards. I was told that he was every bit as good of a warrior as Mapleshade was but he was simply far better at avoiding the consequences of his actions. He was favored of the great Riverspirit who saw him as a son and protected him when danger came his way.

Remember when I said that any relationship between the clans was frowned upon?

Well Appledusk and Mapleshade were deeply in love. They fought each other ferociously if they met on the battlefield and spent their moonpeaks sharing tongues and grooming each other's coats. Mapleshade - loyal and dedicated to a fault - never once felt a shred of guilt for their love. She knew she was a good warrior and she defended her clan with no pause for affection but Appledusk was of a more vulnerable heart.

He was awash with endless guilt and spent careful hours licking her scent from his pelt and avoiding the eyes of his clanmates whenever they were given trouble by ThunderClan. Appledusk couldn't handle the whispers - he needed a shield, a form of protection.

He sought out a gullible RiverClan molly who we now know as Reedshine. He told her that he loved her, that she was his one and only and that he'd never met a molly like her before. Satisfied with having a RiverClan mate, Appledusk had his love in Mapleshade and his alibi in Reedshine.

When Mapleshade told him once at a Gathering after the death of a prominent ThunderClan warrior of her pregnancy, Appledusk panicked. He reassured her that the loss of Sunningrocks had made t difficult to sneak away - that he still loved her and would visit her as soon as he was able. When Mapleshade went home happily, Appledusk grew closer to Reedshine.

He stalled for as long as he could, eventually getting Reedshine pregnant as well.

Followers of the Lost One were enraged by the love shared by Mapleshade and Appledusk - so much so they crept into the dreams of the resident healer and masqueraded as StarClan, telling him that the kits were of RiverClan descent. Instead of keeping this knowledge to himself, the healer decided that the clan should know and reveal it publically.

The ThunderClan leader, plagued with the whispers of the Lost One was enraged and exiled her and her kits from their clan.

Meanwhile the spirits of the lost disguised themselves as members of StarClan and told Appledusk of what happened. Panicked and cowardly, Appledusk went to Riverspirit and claimed that Mapleshade aimed to kill him - that she sought to slaughter him to take vengeance on him for her clan. RIverspirit believed him and when Mapleshade attempted to cross the river, the spirit raised the river to keep her from going.

Mapleshade struggled into RiverClan, grieving and in pain. A former clanmate stood on the bank of the river and never lifted a claw to help them, merely turning away when Mapleshade sank beneath the waves. She was further agonized to find that her mate had been unfaithful - never once stating his interest in another cat, let alone the fact that she had kits.

The innocent RiverClan leader showed mercy that Oakstar didn't to his valuable clanmate and sent Mapleshade away, refusing to let her join the clan and Appledusk committed his most cowardly act yet; he blamed her for the deaths of their kits.

Mapleshade ran away in tears and furious. She decided if no one else would punish cats for their behavior, then she would do it herself.

Mapleshade first sought out the healer who revealed the identity of her kits' father. She informed him of their death then tore open his throat, leaving him in the entrance of the Star's Cavern for his fellow healers to discover later.

Her next target was the clan mate who stood upon the riverbank and watched her kits drown, feeling nothing but grim satisfaction that her brother was avenged. Mapleshade led her to a rock pike of adders seemed to leap out at her command, sinking their teeth into her skin.

She attacked Oakstar while he patrolled and received serious injury but she managed to take three lives from him - one for every kit he sentenced to exile. What? Oh yes, leaders had nine lives back then.

Her final target was Appledusk who she captured on a patrol. She feigned an attack towards Reedshine and he jumped to her defense. Satisfied with her revenge, Mapleshade informs Reedshine that she will now raise her kits without a father and that even if she told them lies, when they died they would know of their father's cowardice.

Mapleshade was attacked by well-meaning apprentice Perchpaw but she fended him off well enough to escape to the edges of clan territory. She cast one last curse, using all of her energy and magic at once to doom any cat who betrays their mate to a life of suffering. Mapleshade eventually died of her injuries and awoke in the paws of a furious Riverspirit and a now immortal Appledusk.

Riverspirit asks what she means by calling his chosen son a coward and Mapleshade informs him of the cruelty and pain caused by Appledusk and her former clanmates and Riverspirit initially doesn't believer her. He fetches the spirit of the healer who shamefully admits that it's all true.

Riverspirit is furious, he can't reclaim Appledusk's immortality but he could do something that Appledusk would consider far worse.

Riverspirit made Mapleshade immortal as well to keep Appledusk in check.

Now they roam the world, jumping in and out of the divine world, taking hold of cats unseen. Appledusk bringing up the fears and insecurities you'd rather keep buried and Mapleshade to keep cats in check.

I love the way you draw cats! How did you adopt a style like that? Who/What were your inspirations?

Thank you!!! I'm so glad people have been liking them!! I'd say I get a lot of style elements from popular cartoons, like pokemon, but I also take a lot of care in my references, and learned to breakdown their shapes over years of trial and error. I'd say a majority of the inspo I got was from random warrior cats speed paints on youtube- I'd pause the frames and pay attention to all the different steps they did! I don't think any one youtuber stood out to me as someone I got my style from, but It's def an amalgamation of a bunch of creators from the early 2010's! I'd love to post something, or even a video one day, of how I do each of the steps I do to get where I get! [Below is a retelling of my art journey if anyone is interested!]

I'd like to think I've got two styles of drawing: art for ocs, and canonized fan art. For both I use a great deal of references, either chosen from stock/free use image sites or from pictures of my three irl cats (who are very photogenic <3)! I am self taught, which means I've gone through a LOT of trial and error over the good decade I've been into the WC fandom. About a year or two ago, my laptop (that I've had since childhood) crashed so hard it deleted everything from my hard drive, losing YEARS of progress/artwork that I hadn't posted anywhere. Foolishly, months before that, I'd deleted my DeviantArt where all my cringe emo ocs were posted, something I was embarrassed of at the time, and now deeply regret doing (fr keep and date ALL of your art it is so important for your growth). I wish more than anything that I could post some of it here to show how my style has grown and changed, but sadly, I'll just have to describe it to ya.

I started drawing wc art in the 4th grade with some friends at my school- a very close friend of mine had started doing it, and I had never really drawn before, so I just followed along with what she did; the meme-y 'firestar doesn't like waffles/derp' fad of the time had be in a VICE GRIP and a lot of my work looked like that. I drew almost exclusively on paper, until my parents let me use the trackpad/mouse on the family computer in mspaint, where my passion for it really started to take off.

From there I got into deviantart, and started out like a lot of young kids did- thick, uniform lineart, coloring in the flats manually, tons of airbrushes and clip images of sparkles, the GOOD STUFF. I would hold paper up to the computer screen and trace the emo mspaint scourge pmvs frame by frame, I was obsessed. Then, for my 13th birthday, my uncle gifted me my very first wacom tablet; a tiny, 6x6 plastic plate that came with a pen and a too short chord. I drew constantly, watching speed paints and reading riverspirit comics until my eyes melted out of my skull, rp'd and posted little comics about my day to day. This went on and I very slowly started improving the more naturally drawing came to me; I held my pen different, downloaded a pirated version of firealpaca, learned about lineweight, obtained LAYERS. Almost seven years ago now, that friend I started drawing with passed away while she was very young. I couldn't stomach drawing warrior cats art for a long time after that; and, my parents had been urging me to give it up for a while too (in their opinions, if I was going to waste my time drawing, it should be something I could do to make money. If only they could see my commission having ass now!!). I still made art, but I did it formally; still life, paintings, figure sketches. When I got to highschool, I went to a specialized program for gifted students (burnout king right here) and took a TON of formal art classes, studying it as my main field. I learned about shapes and color and the natural flow of a piece; but I never really get over my love of cartoons, or my love of warrior cats art. There was just something so special about it, so unique to any fandom I've ever been in, that eventually, I was called back to it. My life was very difficult during that time, when I decided to redraw some of my old digital art for a class warmup. I hadn't touched a laptop in years, and it was ROUGH, but I reconnected with it instantly, and it was the first bit of serotonin I'd had in a WHILE. I got back into roleplays, got back into tumblr, got back into all the old stuff that made me happy.

I graduated highschool in 2020 and started drawing a lot of warrior cats content in between shifts- which leads to where I am now! I was deeply insecure about it and would hide the fact I did it from people I knew irl because I was afraid they'd think im cringe (I am cringe and I love that about myself now, thank u therapy)- and now, I pay for our internet bill off warrior cats commission money, which felt like a pretty big leap!! I still like doing 'formal traditional art', and it has influenced my art and it's shapes a ton- but I still cling to the anime eyes I loved to draw as the kid who wanted to make cartoons for all the world to see.

Here's a weird question to the Seasoned Otaku/Ghiblinuts out there

Is Haku and Chihiro's relationship in Spirited Away supposed to be romantic? No really. The english dub/original script calls what they have love but it feels way more like the close love between two friends than anything romantic. And, personally, I think that's powerful in itself. Sometimes deep love between friends is all you need, especially when they're children. They aren't San and Ashitaka.

But my question is....WAS HakuxChihiro intended by the creators? Like, in the text, is it supposed to be sweet childhood romance?

Is Haku a child or just childlike in appearance? Is he a child in riverspirit terms? That's kind of sad considering his river's dried up. If he's not a kid, well, frankly I wouldn't even call what they have "creepy" since it again feels more platonic, like he's the cool big brother looking out for her and then she saves him so cute. To put this a different way, will anything be 'awkward' when Kohaku tells Chihiro they will meet again? [note: It's been awhile since I've seen the original Japanese w subs] Maybe that's not in the original script. Either way I took him saying that as more a "Sarah and her puppet homies at the end of Labyrinth"-sorta thing than a 'wait for me' lover type exchange. But there in lies the question: was/are Kohaku and Chihiro intended to be romantic?

I feel like there may be some cultural difference I'm missing besides just not knowing all of Miyazaki's intentions. I think more hardcore ghibli heads would know the answer.

Because, in my westernizer mind, I'm kind of perplexed and willing to go down two paths.

The following discussion fanwoes are meant to be had WITHOUT bringing up all the weird creepy "in this country the age of consent-" bs, k? And please don't talk to me about that creepy dragon maid show. None of this is SUPPOSED to even be some weird proshipping/antishipping debate, it's just got me thinking and kind of sad.

A thing a lot of fanart and fanfiction for Spirited Away does is have Haku meeting up with Chihiro when she's in highschool or as adults and they hit it off.

But like...is he a child spirit? Because if not and he ages differently or not at all that's going to be a little weird and very sad. There's nothing in the narrative that implies that Haku can shapeshift (alternating between dragon and boy isn't the same. He doesn't have classical longdragon king powers), so dear god is he forever a boy and has to watch his lover age and die and never really be with her because she doesn't belong with spirits? That's...really sad.

The hopeless romantic monster-lover fairytale-r in me is squeeing over the story of a dragon spirit and human woman who met when they were kids meeting back up and falling in love with some awful yuki-onna style caveat to their relationship because a however hundred years old dragon can't marry a woman and you can't date a river even if wears pants.

But, the pragmatic part of me is thinking: it would be so sweet if he shows up to Chihiro when she's an adult and they're just happy to see and know each other again+be besties while Chihiro gets married and has her own kids.

Either way I'd never write it. Spirited Away is so good it feels icky to ever make fanfiction or sequels to it. It's such a complete story.

The third prompt of the February art challenge (Tales of Old, a fun challenge surrounding Slavic lore and fairytale) I’m cohosting with the incredible artists: @denise.vandillen @izarra_studio @regretfully_rainey @variety_of_scribbles Is “Sunny Lake” which I thought would be perfect for the Vodyanoy. From Wikipedia: “Vodyanoy is said to appear as a naked old man with a frog-like face, greenish beard, and long hair, with his body covered in algae and muck, usually covered in black fish scales; (…) He has webbed paws instead of hands, a fish's tail, and eyes that burn like red-hot coals. He usually rides along his river on a half-sunken log, making loud splashes. Local drownings are said to be the work of the Vodyanoy. When angered, the vodyanoy breaks dams, washes down water mills, and drowns people and animals.” My Vodyanoy looks more like a young and happy hippie (hoppy?
