Chapter 1 🟢
Sabrina Jones is known for being the life of the party. Any given Friday night you can find her at any one of the local clubs or bars in Melbourne, but this story isnt about Sabrina.
This Story is about an introverted homebody, Zoe Burns to be exact. Zoe works hard to come home and sleep hard. She's happy with her Calm waters. She had the Power to make waves, but thats not her style. Even When others had something to Say, She didnt Care. Its her life, she Should do as she pleases right?
Zoe first met Sabrina when they were 19 and freshman in College. When Zoe Walked into her first lecture, it was Packed. There were very few seats open, indicating Musicology is a very popular course. Her eyes scanned the room, there were very few Open seats. One next to 3 boys slouched into their chairs, seeming to clutch their small fanny packs over their chests. Weird. They all looked like douchebaggy soccer players.
"Hell no " Zoe Whispers to herself. As she wandered further into the lecture hall, another seat became visible. Next to the empty seat there were 4 girls talking about Choreography and lyrics. Feeling confident, Zoe introduces herself and asked to sit down. All of their heads whipped around, their eyes scraping over Zoe head to toe.
"we're good.”
Said one of the girls before they all turned back to whatever they were doing. Zoe not comptetely sure of what just happened, turns and continues looking for a seat, She knew there was a reason for being early.
Just as Zoe was ready to admit defeat and just sit on the floor for the rest of the semester, a small girl with dark hair popped up from her seat, frantically waving Zoe over. The girl was stunning! She had hazel eyes and Small freckles littered all over her round Cheeks and the brightest smile Zoe had ever seen.
"Over here!" She Called. Zoe was caught off gaurd by the girts excitment. After the last interaction she had with her class mates Zoe didn’t expect much from the strangers in her class. Regardless, She squeezed past a few People to Claim her seat. As Zoe sits down the girl introduces herself as Sabrina Jones. Zoe returns the Sabrina’s kindness and introduced herself to Sabrina. That was the beginning of an unbreakable bond.
The girls never spent much time apart after becoming friends. After graduating from RMIT together, they moved into an apartment in Sabrina's hometown, Melvern. Felix, Sabrina's boyfriend moved in a few months after the girls had settled in. Sabrina met Felix at Some Club in Melbourne and says they “Zinged”.
Zoe only had 1 boyfriend throughout College. She didnt See that going very far so she broke it off. All he ever did was play video games and cheat off other students come exam time. The cheaters always disgusted Zoe…
Boys and dating were never her strong suit. She tried but always found herself more interested in her kdrama or book. When they would text it would be hours before there would be a reply. Zoe knew she sucked at dating so she just never really put effort into it. She was happy with herself.
Although working and watching TV doesn’t apeal to all, it apeals to her. After Coming home from a long day as a vocal coach for local Chair groups and organizations. She’ll immediately B line to the bathroom so she can relax in a hot bath with all of her favorite body oils and scents, Or she’ll be wrapped up in her warm comfy bed with her teddy bear David, a hot cup of coffee and a couple candles burning. Her career isn’t exactly what she wants but she’s happy to lend a hand when it’s needed. It also pays really well.
Zoe's little life pleases her. She loves her people and take pride in the fact that they are genine. They way she sees it her life is perfect as is.

John Kelly has been described variously as an awkward bugger (Fergal Gaynor, 2007) and a free radical (Guangzhou Triennale, 2008), and whilst these observations are no doubt true his awkward radical behaviour leads to some interesting results.
John Kelly was born in 1965. His father, from Cork, and mother from Bristol, the family immigrated to Australia the same year. Due to his birth, heritage and circumstance John now holds three passports and therefore is an Englishman, an Australian and an Irishman. Kelly has lived in all three countries and for the past two decades has resided in west Cork, Ireland. His work has been collected into the Yale Center for British Art, USA, the National Gallery of Australia, the Crawford Gallery, Ireland and the Guangdong Museum in Guangzhou China, MONA, Tasmania, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of New South Wales, etc.
In 1985 Kelly obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts Painting) from RMIT University, Melbourne, where he also completed his Masters of Arts in 1995. As a winner of the 1995 Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship, he travelled to London to study as an Affiliate Student at the Slade School of Art from 1996 to 1997.
As a painter, sculptor and printmaker Kelly engages across mediums and also writes, having written for Art Monthly (Australia & UK) and Circa magazine (Ireland), The Jackdaw (London) and Daily review (Australia). In 2017 he was nominated for a Walkley Award for Arts Journalism.

Week 1
1. Reflection:
This first week was quite overwhelming to me as I needed to adapt to a new study environment (as an exchange student). It was until the second part of the class that I could consume information better and reflect upon it:
Convergent and Divergent thinking could coexist in the creative process. Convergent thinking focuses on narrowing down to a solution, while divergent thinking allows multiple ideas, they support each other, for example, finding new ideas to broaden an existing one.
Contextualization (e.g. adding visual elements, sound, etc.) achieves different emotions or responses toward the artwork. This creates a possibility for me to manipulate the response of the audience whether it is to authenticate the environment or create total disbelief in the experience.
Also, through different perceptions of the audience, there will be different experiences or reactions toward the performance.
2. Research:
i.) Academic:
As of now, the state that I was interested in and started to explore is Uncanny.
In Cambridge Dictionary, Uncanny meaning is 'strange or mysterious, often in a way that is slightly frightening'. Some other sources define Uncanny as an unsettling or shuddery feeling. There is also a term 'Uncanny valley' which describes the unsettling state when something looks human but it isn't.
In 'What is the Uncanny?' by Mark Windsor, Uncanny is mentioned to be the term to 'describe an existential feeling of unhomeliness'.
-> This represents what I have collected through my research of the Uncanny state: the sense of unreality, and uneasiness when you are 'not home', not in a familiar environment, or 'not-being-at-home in a familiar place'. The article also mentioned that Uncanny is not a feeling but rather a cognitive evaluation of the surrounding: the reaction of 'an uncertain threat to one’s grasp of reality'.
https://academic-oup-com.ezproxy.lib.rmit.edu.au/bjaesthetics/article/59/1/51/5085234#132210691
In another book called 'Uncanny Cinema: Agonies of the Viewing Experience' by Murray Pomerance, they mentioned how humans always seek the truth. However, like the theory of "Plato's cave", we only believed what we see, to quote from the book: 'What we watch is believed, to be sure, and accepted, imbibed and considered, remembered and remembered again, expanded and warped and miscolored and repositioned and sometimes even recast by us, but we do not know it. What we can know, perhaps, is its ineradicable flow, its ongoingness, its hope. And then it is gone and we are left alone again.'
-> A sense of Uncanny can then be achieved by showing the 'raw' truth, in other words, entirely shifting the perception of the audience.
https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/rmit/reader.action?docID=7109331&ppg=319
ii.) Creative practice:
Giselle - The Tokyo Ballet
This week, I went to the theater to watch Giselle. The ballet was very beautiful and mesmerizing from the performance of the actors to the stage designs. This ballet however doesn't really relate to my chosen state, however I could learn a lot through the stage designs, especially the lighting design and how I could enhance the audience experience:
Similar to some examples in class, the first act which portrayed joyful, warm love, has a warm yellow light, however, transformed to red light during the peak of agony, then to blue indicating both the time (night) and the loneliness, and separation.
Light created depth to the stage, in this play, also highlighted the hollow, lonely feeling.
-> I think lighting design in this play has a very important role in evoking emotions (maybe unconsciously) and shifting the attention of the audience to the main event.
In Giselle and also in many plays that I have seen in theater, there was a moment of silence or freeze (no movement on stage). To me, this pause gives the audience a reflective moment to feel. It could be empathizing with the characters or anticipating what is to come or processing the chaos that just happen.
There were a lot of repetitions of the dancing sequence and music in the play, but each has a different meaning. The first has a happy, innocent feel, while the last one carries a much darker emotion. -> My takeaway for this is with repetition, I can create a pattern that when the audience watches that scene, they will refer back to the previous scenario and compare it or anticipate something out of it.
iii.) Technical:
For this week, I tried to figure out how each of the project offers of this semester works and whether they are suited to the direction of my project (I also consider my ability and skills).
As of now, I’m interested in doing lighting design and projection mapping so what I’m heading for now is the Capitol or DMXIS. Therefore, I did some research on what is the lighting system in the Capitol (the lighting map, color, etc.) to better visualize how it will behave. I also watch tutorials on Youtube on how to use Pharos as it will be the first time I work with this software.
My research for the technical aspects this week was getting to know what I will be working with later on while considering my skills at the moment and how I can push it even more.
3. Project progress:
My progress this week involves researching (as I have mentioned above) and finding inspiration from different sources.
This week was just fully me trying to make sense of what to expect in this course and research the given materials (different states, project offers) to narrow down the direction of my project. Then through the specific states and design forms that I choose, I could expand it through experimenting (e.g. collaboration, trying new design forms, or exceeding my previous ability).
For the next step, I think I have to pinpoint specific ideas in the broad research, then explore more within that area. Also, finding more examples, and inspirations about my chosen state to better visualize what the project should be.

What are the requirements to study in Australia for Indian students?
Australia, with its world-class universities, vibrant cities, and multicultural environment, is a popular destination for Indian students seeking higher education. If you're an Indian student dreaming of studying in australia, here's a breakdown of the key requirements you'll need to fulfill.
Tumblr media
Academic requirements
Educational background: The entry requirements vary depending on the level of study you're pursuing.
For undergraduate programs (Bachelor's degrees), most universities expect a minimum of 60-65% marks in your Class 12 exams.
Postgraduate programs (Master's and Ph.D.) typically require a three-year bachelor's degree with a good academic record.
English Language Proficiency: Demonstrating strong English skills is crucial for academic success in Australia. You'll need to take an internationally recognized English language test like:
IELTS (International English Language Testing System): A minimum score of 6.0-6.5 is generally required, with some universities demanding higher scores for specific programs.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): A minimum score of 60-90 is generally acceptable.
PTE (Pearson Test of English): A score of 50-64 is typically considered competitive.
University application process
Research and shortlist universities: Australia boasts a diverse range of universities, each with its own strengths and specializations. Research universities like the University of Melbourne and Australian National University are known for their research focus, while others excel in specific fields like technology (Queensland University of Technology) or creative industries (RMIT University).
Meet course requirements: Each program has specific entry requirements. Carefully review the course details on university websites, including prerequisites, required documents, and deadlines.
Prepare application documents: This typically includes academic transcripts, standardized test scores, a statement of purpose outlining your educational goals and reasons for choosing the program, letters of recommendation from teachers or professors, and a resume showcasing your skills and achievements.

Obtaining a student visa (Subclass 500) is mandatory for Indian students pursuing full-time studies in Australia. Here's what you'll need:
Offer letter: A confirmation of acceptance from your chosen university.
Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE): This document verifies your enrollment details and is issued by the university after accepting your application.
Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement: You'll need to demonstrate genuine intentions to study in Australia and return to India after completing your program. This is typically addressed in your statement of purpose.
Proof of funds: You must show sufficient financial resources to support yourself during your studies. This includes tuition fees and living expenses (around A$18,000 per year). Financial documents like bank statements or sponsorship letters might be required.
Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is mandatory for all international students in Australia.
Additional considerations
Cost of living: Factor in living expenses beyond tuition fees, such as accommodation, food, transportation, and healthcare costs. Budgeting and exploring scholarship opportunities can help manage these expenses.
Pre-departure arrangements: Secure accommodation in Australia, either on-campus or through private rentals. Familiarize yourself with Australian immigration regulations and living arrangements.
Conclusion
Overseas Education can be a transformative experience.
