I’m currently rereading alastair reynolds’ short stories and thinking about how dirty “love, death, and robots” did him in adapting his writing.
we won’t get into why “zima blue” is a poor adaptation rn, but I can’t get my head around the descisions that were made with making “beyond the aquila rift” favorable to the screen and all.
in the short story, thom is married! that’s a very critical detail to leave out! the entity that’s embodying greta’s likeness springs this plot twist on him after sex because they draw the conclusion that cheating on his wife implies a level of lack of attachment to his old life. cutting out that context makes the story feel more jumbled than it should be. it’s like some kind of shadow realm of literary interpretation that we’re all stuck with here. and what makes it worse is that it would only take a few lines of dialogue to make this work. “something something my wife, katrina”.
uh, well, i suppose what it has going for it is that the animation in and of itself is lovely.

Happy belated holidays!
I’m enjoying scrolling through your tumblr and reading your AO3 fics (catching up on Eagle rn and istg Aquila is the best character out of the whole cast…ironically.)
Though all these Desmond posts I’m reading have me itching to resurrect my sister OC from a couple years ago.
I had kinda figured that with such a prestigious bloodline, Bill the bastard (I am in line to punch him) would want an heir and a spare. Whether or not that’s a twin is up for debate.
Mine was supposed to be the older twin, the one that stayed at the Farm and helped Desmond escape, to let him be free. Now I’m thinking…what then?
An identical twin sister, same bloodline… they take turns in the Animus.
Originally I was thinking about her taking Ezio’s Apple and being sent back to AC:Syndicate time for a Jacob pairing, but then I finished reading Beloved Moon and now I want an Altair pairing.
While I’m aware that the Animus requires Genetic memories during Desmond’s time, does it require the person to be the same gender genetically too? It’s a moot point by Origins (and I think as early as AC4 actually), but still.
Anyways, love your writing and your blog!
Happy belated holidays and advanced Happy New Year too, nonny!
Why ironically? Aquila is best birb and best boi! XD
Ooohh, that sounds interesting. I mean, if they’re twins, it doesn’t have to be a case of heir and spare since they wouldn’t have known they would have twins immediately. An older sibling for Desmond would hammer the heir and spare metaphor though.
You could also add in the angst of the two of them being made to compete against each other for the ‘heir’ spot even though neither of them want the spot.
Okay, so let’s talk about the Animus and its genetic memories requirement.
Before Black Flag, the subject must have the genetic memories BUT they don’t need to be of the same gender.
The primary example for this one is actually Aveline’s descendant:
Subject 1 was male and Vidic talks about him in the Subject Zero recordings in Black Flag, one of which is this:
No, it's fine. The Subject is unconscious. He's traipsing through 18th century New Orleans right now. In the memories of a woman. (Noob Files, Subject Zero – audio file 3)
So yeah, as long as they have the genetic memories, it was possible to relive the memories of their ancestor, regardless of the gender.
It became a moot point at Black Flag because the genetic memories are placed in the Animus by some other mean (in Origins and beyond, it seems to be a vial).
Good luck with your fic and I hope you have fun writing it :)

i want 2 know sooo much abt ur fantrolls 🎟🎟🎟 << handing u 3 free passes to tell me all abt ur fantrolls
OUGHH HI MAC.... HIII CATKISS.GIF i am hugging u SO HARD rn.... ok ok. well. rising action is my little fucking freak trollsona i'll get them out of the way. theyre just me but lamer & more endearing.
altair almach & tianyi weixiu however !!!!!!!!!! they r everything to me. my pet naming convention fr hs ocs is IAU-approved star names so altair is. well. altair from aquila. & almach is in andromeda! (weixiu is 尾宿 not 胃宿 fwiw.. i recognize that probably no one who cares about my ocs knows mandarin or give a shit abt. chinese astronomy however it is important to me.) & tianyi is a star in draco :]
anyway anyway anyway i do not have the brain for big lorebuilding so they mostly just spin around in my brain microwave BUT. altair (they/he) is a goldblood & they're a professional mechanic.. unusually enough he apparently has no psionic abilities. none at all. (he does. hes a draft evader.) this however is made up for by the fact that they're extremely intuitive & good at fixing shit and working with their hands. do not ask me HOW machines work on alternia where everything is bugs i just think that things that go vroom are hot okay. someone has to work on all those spaceships. someone has to joyride those ships. suspension of disbelief <3 he gives off the vibes of someone who is pissed and intimidating all the time but its just the autism.. guy who drinks shit black coffee & nebulously exists both within & without the confines of the law. theyre like. if rottmnt donnie was a little scarier.
tianyi (any) is the guy (girlfriend) (witch of rage / derse / scoriborn) who manages dirty work that some highbloods are too wealthy or pretentious or lazy to do for themselves, or if they dont want a thing to be traced back to them for whatever reason. like, they have people, it pays well, it's a whole thing. cerulean & they're very shiny and elegant and dangerous very charming very whiny a little of a bitch. so tired all of the time but very good at masking it. type of person who is very charming and not intimidating per se but still being around them feels like being in the water with a very big shark.
tuirin (hy/he/it) is a purpleblood apostate... he's extremely wealthy and powerful and politically active... type of guy to drive expensive cars and is friends with seadwellers etc.
anyway tuirin is tianyi's most frequent employer hy definitely doesnt think she's cool and cute and a little terrifying. altair is one of tianyi's contacts & they fucking hate each other NOT in the fun way definitely not. he's too pretentious they're too messy. sad that he keeps needing them for shit! tuirin rolls up to altair's garage for some reason hes dressed in like, troll dior, luxury scuttlebuggy, absolutely immaculate, sees altair who hasnt slept in a week & is covered in grime & looks like something the purrbeast dragged in & goes holy shit. i wont him.

Thinking abt my fic again and the worldbuilding I’m doing for it. and while it’s a short post w/o much elaboration rn.
The Cream Wolves in my fic are instead replaced with the Wolf Riders, which are in turn derived from the older Eagle Riders. These Wolf Riders in turn derive much of their inspiration from Destiny’s Iron Lords, with my selected voice for Crunchy Chip being that of Saladin’s rather than his canon voice.
Unlike their inspirations though, the Wolf Riders are quite sizeable and have not been victim and entirely almost lost to a virus, much less a virus in the form of tiny nanobots. They are thriving well and serve the Kingdom of Dark Cacao exceptionally well.
The story of the origins of the Wolf Riders can be traced back to the Eagle Riders — the first militia force of the Dark Cacao Kingdom after its establishment, consisting of prestigious, decorated warriors who are each given a giant eagle companion to train with and bond with, usually after raising them from an egg.
How they were able to enlist the eagles’ help though comes from a story involving the great King of Dark Cacao and his conversation with the Eagle King after splitting the Black and White dragons, where, indebted that the Great Warlord had stopped the dragons from fighting in the Eagle King’s domain of the sky, offered his assistance in any possible way he could. The Eagle King is connected to the constellation Aquila.
The Eagle Riders were gradually replaced by the Wolf Riders not due to any bad blood between Dark Cacao and the Eagle King, but rather because their air superiority was being preferred less and less and it was becoming harder and harder to maintain sturdy breeds of war eagle. There are other stories but this is the most logical answer of them all.
The Wolf Riders consisted at first mostly of old Eagle Riders who lost their bird companions, and were given a dire wolf companion instead from an alliance between the Wolf King (the constellation Lupus) and Dark Cacao after an exchange of favours.
To the present day (in the fic’s timeline) the Eagle Riders are nothing more than a seemingly impossible legend (even for a world inhabited by all sorts of magical monsters and beasties) while the Wolf Riders are often shut away in their mountain temples unless called on for duty — that is when you know something is serious or requires major attention.
So yeah!! Wanted to talk abt this before I fell asleep. Super excited to work on my fics involving them and the rest of the world of my fanverse! Feel free to ask questions 💜

UPDATE: Gave them a proper bio. I will add a cool pose thingy for Hitomi later once I draw it, rn I got other projects to focus on.
NOTE: Hitomi belongs to my friend @mad-hatter-rici and largely everything about her design and her bio is pretty much from her ideas naturally.
More info below:
Ages:
Hitomi: around 12
Ichirou: He is 15-16, and hasn’t reached his Soul age yet so he pretty much looks his age/a bit younger due to being born prematurely (Average lifespan of a soul eater is 300 years, the first 20 years they age like humans)
Nicknames: Nii-chan (Hitomi) Kid, spidy kid (Clover) Little puppeteer (grandpa Harrow)
Family: Adoptive big brother Laurent, adoptive father/uncle Jurou, Little sister/cousin Hitomi, Grandmother Yui, grandfather Harrow
Friends: Clover Belmont (honorary big brother), Janus Kravchenko & Marco Aquila (his classmates)
Ichirou is a half blood Soul eater/Puppeteer demon, whereas Hitomi is half blood human/soul eater
Occupation:
Ichirou is in high-school where he studies all the basics like literature, math, Mirror world history, magic in general, etc. He does however get tutoring for his specific powers as well, though this is mainly done by Jurou (and sometimes Harrow) given their powers are so unique.
Hitomi has been home-schooled so far, but they are slowly trying to introduce her to the proper school.
Powers:
ICHIROU
Soul eater powers: Ichirou can affect people’s souls and read them, she is still too young to actually devour or pull them out of people’s bodies. He can somewhat control the shadow element/webs that comes with his specific family heritage, forming small spiders from it the shadows, or even some weapons like blades and a staff from the webs. He can also of course, use his webbing like, well, a web, to trap something or swing around like Tarzan/Spiderman.
Magic: Ichirou is studying to use Arachnid Soul eater runes; they are all based on pretty basic base spells like protective shields, summoning, offensive spells etc, but utilize his special magic type that makes them far stronger than your average magic runes. (All Soul eater types have their own runes, and another special thing about them is that only the right type of soul eaters can use them. No wizard will be capable of wielding Ichirou’s runes for example, only other arachnid soul eaters can)
Transformation: Like his uncle, Ichirou does have a “demonic” form that grants him enhanced strength, speed, stamina, and larger access and power reserves with his magic. This ability is still in its infancy though due to his age, and he can’t access it easily.
Puppeteering: From his biological father’s side, Ichirou has an unique ability not really seen from his uncle or grandfather; he is able to utilize his strings to command anything he wants, and even make inanimate objects to appear lifelike. He is even able to puppeteer someone’s soul with this, though hates doing it as it is essentially a form of possession.
Soul link: Ichirou can communicate with all of his family members telepathically with this ability, it is a pretty common one among Soul eaters and not unique to his family. He can also form these with people he’s close with outside the family, such as Clover.
HITOMI
Creation: Her unique ability nobody else in the family has; she is able to create colorful fabric from her webs and make clothing and accessories with it
Element control: She can control shadow element somewhat like rest of her family
Bloop Spiders: Hitomi can also summon little spiders like her family, to help her and communicate with others. People call them “bloop spiders” mainly because they look more like tiny dust fuzzballs with legs rather than spiders, not even having fangs just large cartoony eyes (Think studio Ghibli dustballs). They can change their appearance to something more menacing though, if she feels threatened.
Web shooting: She can shoot spider webs, often times accidentally trapping people who spook her.
Soul link: Hitomi is also capable of forming these soul links to communicate with her family, but being half-blood and very young still, she’s still learning and mainly has ones with her dad and Ichirou, both of which were initially formed by them rather than her.
Personality:
Ichirou is a sweet and curious boy, who is bit of a bookworm and generally loves to learn new things. He is very self-conscious of being a Soul Eater and the negative stigma they carry. He still tries to be positive and friendly, trying not to judge a book by its cover. He is protective over his family, especially his little sister Hitomi. This protective nature does extent to his bestie and honorary big brother Clover as well. He is able to put aside his own fear and self-doubt to protect those he loves, and because he IS an Araknos, Ichirou can absolutely be terrifying like his father, grandpa and grandma if he wants to be, when situation requires it.
Hitomi is a very shy and cautious young girl, who is nervous around new people due to her past trauma. She is sweet and caring despite all this, and really wants to interact with others and help in any way she can, despite her fears. She is quite attached to her big brother Ichirou, but also wants to spend more time with her elder brother Caelan who is often busy unfortunately. She is very creative and especially talented in making clothes. Overall she is pretty typical sweet little girl once you get past her traumas, who does have moments where she pouts over silly things. Like Ichirou she is curious to learn more about new things, especially her new home and the people in it.
Fun Facts
Ichirou doesn’t have that many friends due to being a Soul Eater, but the few he does have are very close and loyal. Hitomi also doesn’t have many friends, but that is more to do with the fact she’s new to Mirror World and Chrysalis city.
While Janus is his classmate, because he is often sick Janus does a lot of his schoolwork at home, and Ichirou and Marco typically bring things for him.
Marco was the first person to approach Ichirou and not be intimidated by what he was. His open-mindedness and friendly nature led to the two becoming good friends.
Ichirou often falls asleep reading or taking notes, and sometimes has his writings printed to his cheek as he wakes up in the case of the latter.
Ichirou creates dioramas as a hobby, and sometimes helps Hitomi with her crafts and vise versa
Hitomi likes making clothes or accessories for people
Ichirou’s eye-markings come from his biological father, hence he doesn’t have a spider web birthmark like his sister, uncle and grandfather. The ones in his hands are magical tattoos to help him learn to control his power better
Ichirou really dislikes his puppeteer powers and tries to ignore them for the most part, even though combining them with his Soul eater powers make him exceptionally powerful for his age.
Ichirou was born prematurely, hence he is fairly short and seems a bit younger than he is.
Hitomi is mute and mostly communicates through sign language. She can talk, is just a bit too traumatized to do it often.
Hitomi has a Shadow kitty called Nori, which is literally a cat made of shadows, able to shapeshift their body from liquid puddle to loooong noodle, and also merge and travel within their owner’s shadow.
Ichirou sometimes communicates with his grandpa through the special Soul link all the family members have. This way Harrow was able to mentor him even though he is unable to set foot to the Mirror World physically, being a wanted man.
