A continuation of my AU where Michael gets adopted by the Evans’ instead of Max.

Based on RNM 2x10. The pod squad and Alex journey to the reservation to find answers about Louise. Michael and Liz take a step in their relationship. A disagreement between Max and Alex leads to a suspicious occurrence…

Differences from Canon:

The beginning of the episode this is based on has a parallel of Isobel interrupting some sexy time of two couples. In the 'verse, the couples are Max and Alex in the house and Michael and Liz in the trailer. Some lines stay with the character who said them and some are swapped.As a nod to canon, Alex still mentions his new prosthetic.

There is literally no reason for Maria to join them, so she doesn't. It's the four of them on the roadtrip. If Alex sees Forrest in the Crashdown, it's not a significant enough encounter.

At the rez, Alex goes with them to the grave and it's him who recognizes the flower. Iz tells her previously dead brother about her abortion and then it's him she has a special conversation with. Reminder: Michael doesn't know but he thinks he could be Max or Isobel's bio brother.

Alex can distract Greg so all three can go into the mindscape. Also, Max and Isobel talk Michael down afterward. Michael feels like even MORE isolated.

Greg is still supportive but adds that Alex looks happy with Max.

Anticipating Michael's struggles, Liz initiates the next step in their relationship.

They still need to find out where Louise's baby went, so Alex is the man for the job. He explains to his boyfriend the lead from his dad and Max has a better reaction than Michael in canon. Their convo is SO GOOD. The kidnapping plays out differently...

Reserva: Michael: Noah dijo que nuestro planeta estaba en guerra. Pero lo que les esperaba aquí no era mejor. Isobel: ¿Creéis que el bebé de Louise murió por sus heridas? O.. quizá nunca hubiera sobrevivido? Max: ¿De qué hablas? I: Yo estaba embarazada.. cuando te moriste. Obviamente, ya no lo estoy. No paro de preguntarme si era mi última oportunidad. Suponiendo que no podamos procrear con los humanos por ser especies distintas. Tal vez el bebé no era viable. Mx: Casi te mueres durante el aborto, ¿verdad? Ahh Lo sentí. Noah casi vuelve a matarte, ¿no? Necesito un momento. I: Que bien ha ido.(risa) M: Noah no era tu única oportunidad. Podríamos probar lo de la jeringuilla.. y esas cosas. ¿Sabes? I: Perdona, um... necesito que seas más especifico. M: Si quieres hijos, reviviré al caminante blanco, me haré unas pirulillas. I: Vale, para. ¿Me estás diciendo que... donarías tu simiente/soldaditos alienígena? M: Digo que quiero una familia. Así que, si quieres ser madre algún día... y necesitas un padre.. Vale, sé que preferirías una cerca de madera blanca y un golden retriever, y un marido, pero.. I: Serías.. un magnifico padre. ¿Te he dicho últimamente que te quiero? (risas) M: Ojalá no hubieras dicho "soldaditos alienígenas" (risas) [...]

Alex: Hola. Solo queria darte las gracias antes de irnos. Y tambien deberia felicitarte por dejarla. Greg: ¿La Armada? A: La familia. La influencia de papa. G: Tienes que romper con el. A: ¿Eres libre? G: No.. podre ser libre hasta que tu lo seas, Alex. Eres mi hermano, y me habría gustado.. apoyarte mas. A: Esta mejorando como persona. Es como si el ictus hubiera eliminado al psicópata de su cerebro. G: Si tu le perdonas, me parece bien. Pero déjame odiarlo por ti. Te lo debo. A: Dicen que la carretera de aquí a Roswell no es tan mala. G: Me alegra (abrazo)[...]

Tienda: [...] María: ¿Ha habido suerte? Mx: Un poco, no se si bueno pero era suerte ¿y vosotros? María: Hemos buscado por ahí un sello de tsela pero nada aunque bueno me he gastado una semana entera de propinas. I: ¿Tsela? María: Si. Estaba grabado en el dorso del collar de mi abuela. Pensé que encontraría respuestas aquí. A: Al parecer en navajo es estrella en el suelo. Bien ¿estáis listos? I: Estrella en el suelo.. ¿María en que año nació tu abuela? María: En el 48, creo. Mx: ¿La adoptaron? María: Si.. Dios mio. I: Tu abuela era mi hermana. Michael: Eso explicaría muchas cosas[...]

Bunker: A:(toc) Soy yo, Guerin. Michael(abre escotilla con tk): Esta cerrado. A: Esa pieza de panel alien que me dejó Jim Valenti. M: Mm-hmm. A: ¿Aún lo tienes? M: No. La vendí en eBay. A: Que gracia. (M suspiro. La saca)No la has conectado a tu panel. M: Lo intenté. No encaja. A: Tripp le dejó esto a mi padre antes de morir.(enseña servilleta) Pensaba que era un dibujo pero es una inscripción de esta pieza. Mi padre lleva buscándola 30 años, y la tenia Jim Valenti. M: ¿Qué vas a hacer? A: Quiero darsela. Quiero ver qué hace cuando la tenga. Si no encaja en tu panel, encaja en otra parte. Mi padre podría llevarnos ahí. M: Tu padre caza alienigenas, Alex. Tiraría a mi familia por un precipicio. A: Siempre te he protegido. Eso no cambiara. Además, esta distinto últimamente. M: Debe de ser una broma.(risas) A: No me fío de él, Guerin. Sólo..(M suspiro)Confía en mí. M: Cuando éramos críos, créias que la gente era buena, pese a que la humanidad te demostraba lo contrario. Y por eso te quiero. Pero lo que era tierno con 17 años, ahora es una estupidez. ¿No lo ves eso? ¿Crees que tu padre es buena persona? A: Sí, lo creo. M: Mm. A: Si tengo fe en la gente que no me da razones para tenerla. M: Eso no es justo. A:¿No? M: No. A: ¿Y tu mano vendada? Echas de menos tu cicatriz porque quieres hacer daño. Tu ira te da seguridad. Siempre odiaré a mi padre por lo que te hizo, pero no quiero vivir en esa caseta el resto de mi vida. March Meta - Greg Manes

My first real meta so be gentle:)

My favorite minor character is Greg. I mean what’s not to love about Greg?

He’s kind

He’s handsome and sexy

He gives great hugs

He’s a badass when he needs to be

Feel free to tell me all the reasons you love Greg.

For me it all starts with the hug. The hug with Alex in 2x10 is by far my favorite moment of the season. The whole scene is so important to me because of what it tells us about Alex and how Greg is really trying with him. He knows what he wants for Alex and what Alex needs to do, but he also recognizes that Alex can’t do it alone. He acknowledges Alex’s abuse at the hands of Jesse more directly than other characters have, and tries to take some of the burden living with that from Alex: If you can forgive him, you should. Cast off the stone. Let me hate him for you. I owe you that much.

I think many people would tell Alex not to forgive Jesse, to keep hating him, but that takes a toll on Alex, and Greg is willing to take some of that weight for him. And then he gives Alex the best hug in Roswell history.

One thing I noticed when thinking about this meta is how Greg takes his cues from Alex. He waits until Alex approaches him and brings up Jesse before saying anything. He reaches out to shake Alex’s hand and lets Alex decide he’s ready for the hug. It’s obvious how much Greg cares, but he doesn’t push Alex. Alex is the one to mention the drive to Roswell isn’t that bad, opening the door for Greg to visit him. And once Alex invites him into his life, he is a consistent presence.

Let’s talk briefly about CrashCon. Greg’s whole focus is on doing the one thing he thinks he failed to do in the part - protect Alex. Both physically protecting Alex from Jesse, but also protecting Michael so Alex doesn’t have to live through the tool shed again. Side note I would love to know how and when Greg learned about Alex and Michael and just how much he knows. More importantly, when he kills Jesse, Greg is following through on the promise he made to Alex. We know Alex is capable of killing Jesse and would have done it to save Michael, but it would have been another trauma between them. And something Alex may not have been able to get past. Greg takes this burden both to protect Alex like he wishes he had and also to keep Alex from living with the emotional consequences of killing Jesse. He tells Alex: I should have defended you from him a long time ago. Greg defended him the best way he could be removing Jesse permanently as a physical threat.

And while I wish we had a hundred more scenes with Greg and Alex, the one we did get in Season 3 was wonderful. Again we see the benefit of Alex talking to someone who has known him his whole life, who lived in that house with him and who loves him. Jesse is dead, but Greg can see that he still has a hold over Alex, that even without Alex knowing it, he has been trying to beat Jesse by being a better version of him. Well, then, you should've joined the Navy, or the Marines or even the Army. When you joined the Air Force, you were following in his footsteps. He’s not being critical, but pointing out the flawed thinking in that decision so Alex can start really moving forward. His final piece of advice to Alex is one I think we really see play out in the rest of the season: Stop listening to Dad's voice in your head and start listening to your own.

I love Greg for his heart and his insight. I hope Season 4 brings us more Greg and Alex scenes. If nothing else we deserve to see his reaction to Alex being happy with Michael.
