Based on RNM 3x10. While Max and Liz search for Heath, Kyle, Isobel, Michael and Alex all work to connect Dallas, the new alien, with the Lockhart machine. Jones throws an unexpected wrench in their plans.

Differences from Canon: Jones isn't impersonating a cop, so he can't ping Heath's cellphone location. He's following Max's leads because that's what Liz asks her friend to do. Max also runs the background check on Dallas and wants Michael to see it, because their journeys are similar. Michael says a canon Michael line when he finds out. Liz and Michael's conversation about their relationship happens at Max's house as they strategize. Michael uses a canon Michael line from 2x01. Liz gets the location for Heath's place in Santa Rosa from Max instead of Dallas. She and Max head there, their roadtrip conversation inspired by canon Max/Liz convo at the cabin, but Jones has been eavesdropping and beats them there. Lines are inspired from ones from later in 3x10 and also 3x09 and 3x11. The meeting location for Dallas and the machine is Max and Alex's house. Since Michael is not a mechanic, Isobel has a similar but different plan to get Dallas to go with him. Michael stalls him with day drinking. Since Jones is preoccupied with Heath and the sheriff isn't suspicious of the pod squad, Kyle is able to meet Isobel on time. With both of them ready to talk to Dallas, Isobel isn't nervous and doesn't need to improvise. With Kyle there keeping perspective and his evidence, Dallas doesn't freak out so much. But, as predicted, Dallas doesn't put too much stock in numbers and tests. Alex showing up with the machine has the same effect but this is when Isobel freezes him and Alex calms the situation. Dallas doesn't run, but he stays inside alone. Alex's talk with Michael is similar to canon, but because of their relationship, Alex sympathizes with his own experiences. Max still calls Michael to tell him about Jones and Liz, but the roles are reversed and Michael actually answers the call.

I'm rewatching Malex scenes cause I miss the hell out of them and I decided to share my new ranking of Top Five Malex Scenes:

V • 4.02

I love this scene because it shows growth in Michael we haven't really seen before with Alex. The trust he put in him was amazing and I just love that so much.

IV • 3x10

Oooh this SCENE. Calling him Alexander, reaffirming that they are HOME to each other. And the scene after- it was simply perfection.

III • 1x01

The scene that started my obsession with Malex, and the one that made me start watching RNM in the first place. I don't know if I've said it before but one of my favorite scenes for my ships is a forehead touch, and these two not only gave me that, but also longing, pain and somehow, peace. I will never be over it.

II • 3x03

Unfortunate beanie aside (yes I'm bitter they didn't give a better one, that actually covered his ears ffs), I still can't watch this one without tearing up. The whole scene was perfection in how Alex managed to call out Michael for his self deprecation, but also managed to finally get it through his thick skull that Alex CARES- and he cares A LOT.

Annnnnnd Finally:

I • 1x12 Prison Scene

I will NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT THIS SCENE. The show is probably gonna end with this one at the top of this list. I remember watching it and not believing what was happening, because it was so raw and real and heartbreaking. I could write a whole essay about this scene, but I won't cause this post is long enough.

I will say this though: Alex's rescue better top the angst/heartbreak/love in this scene.

Michael’s early history with his powers...

14 year old Michael to 14 year old Max (1x06): “Every time I get mad I throw furniture with my mind. I’m mad a lot. The lady that runs the group home got a priest to come over and ‘expel my demons’ last week. *rolls up sleeve to show cross burned into his forearm* Turns out getting an exorcism kinda hurts.”

Michael to Alex (1x10): “I was 11 when I got sent back to Roswell. Fundamentalist religious freaks. After that, I’d take an angry addict any day.” Michael to Rosa (3x06): “First time I moved something with my mind, I turned a foul ball into a home run. It changed my world, but it took what felt like forever for me to be able to do it again.”

Michael to Dallas (3x10): “Y’know the first time my powers emerged, I was living with these religious nuts. The oldest had it out for me. One day I couldn’t take it anymore and I got so angry I somehow sent him through a window, with my mind. At first they thought I was possessed by a demon, but when burning me with a cross didn’t work, they thought I was the demon. I was nine.”

Could the writers not communicate and agree on ANYTHING!? Did they not write important information down like when, where, and how the Pod Squad’s powers emerged and what happened to them after? Like, Michael’s story has changed four times (weirdly enough in episodes 6 and 10 of the seasons....will we get another version of his history in season 4 episode 6 and then again in episode 10???)

So, he told Alex he was living with the Fundamentalists when he was 11, but told Dallas he was 9, but also told Max that he was living in the group home while they’re 14 and that’s where he got the exorcism...but that the exorcism happened with the Fundamentalists when he was 9. He told Rosa the first time he used his powers it was to turn a foul ball into a home run, but told Dallas it was to send his bully through a window.

Okay, that’s something I am NOT going to miss about RNM. Their inability to keep their own continuity straight.

So. Here’s how I think it actually went.

Age 9: Michael turns a foul ball into a home run. He can’t make it happen again, eventually forgets about it, until.............

Age 11: Michael gets sent to the Fundamentalist religious nuts in Roswell. Gets bullied and finally fed up and so mad he sends his foster brother through a window with his mind. Gets sent back to the group home where they actually end up performing several exorcisms on him for the next several years (until he has enough and gets his truck and starts living in that instead of the group home).
