I‘m rewatching Monster High Movies and there‘s this scene in 13 wishes where they tell the story of Gigi and Whisp.
And when I saw this picture
Tumblr media
I gasped because I thought I know that guy
Tumblr media
…yeah
We know that scene from Boo York where they call Apple White and Raven Queen at the end (I think it was that movie?) but this one came out two years before that. And I‘m JUST NOW noticing that Giles appeared in 13 Wishes?
I should pay more attention to the movies I’m watching.
Also, we were absolutely robbed, that crossover should have happened. A movie or something. It would’ve been awesome.

But You're Just A Girl (Helpless)
Tumblr media
The test that Buffy undergoes in this episode – in which she is stripped of her powers, locked inside a house, and forced to fight a mentally unstable vampire – is named in the script as The Cruciamentum. Giles describes it as “an archaic exercise in cruelty”, and it’s difficult to think of a description that could be more accurate.
The word Cruciamentum is an invented declension that roughly translates from Latin as “result of torture”. Quentin Travers – making his first appearance here as the Head of the Watcher’s Council – defends the practice as a necessary rite of passage, meant to make a Slayer stronger, but this reasoning falls apart under scrutiny The scenario is so heavily weighted against the Slayer, robbing her not only of her powers but the knowledge that she is being robbed at all, that it makes more sense to view the Cruciamentum not as a test, but as a method of control, designed to kill off Slayers that reach adulthood and so gain more independence from the Council. At the very least, it demonstrates the Council’s control over the Slayer, holding the implicit threat of taking away her powers again over her head for the rest of her life. As is the case with many unjust systems, the cruelty is the point.
The Cruciamentum is the Council’s most clear and obvious cruelty, but it is not by any means their only one. Cruelty is their origin story, as we see in Get It Done how they forcibly created the first Slayer through metaphorical rape. It is baked into the central idea of One Girl In All The World – a system which relies on the deaths of an infinite chain of young women. Its current setup, with one Watcher in the field and apparently dozens sitting safely away in England, leads to an inevitable cruelty of indifference that Giles calls out in this episode. There are cruelties of incompetence – failing to alert the field about the firing of Gwendolyn Post, sending the underqualified Wesley to Sunnydale. But perhaps their most impactful cruelty is also their most subtle. It came the moment that Buffy Summers, sitting outside her school in 1997, was called to be a Slayer. This act not only changed Buffy’s life, but caused an irreparable crack in her psyche. It splits her perceived self into two component parts – The Girl and The Slayer – twin selves that she spends seven seasons trying to reconcile.

I guess I'm running the risk of sounding like a broken record at this point, but I don't think I'll ever not be deeply depressed by the way so many people on here talk about Joyce Summers.
I mean, I'm just thinking out loud here, but.  Maybe the reason that Giles was much more immediately accepting of Buffy's identity as the Slayer than Joyce was might have something to do with the fact that Giles has been training to be a Watcher for over three decades when he first meets Buffy? That his family sat him down and explained to him that vampires were real when he was a child, and that he's had over thirty years to get used to that fact? And that he is in fact literally paid to train Buffy and mentor her and prepare her for being killed in the Cruciamentum after she turns eighteen and he helps rob her of her powers her destiny?
Whereas Joyce learns about the reality of vampires and Slayers and the supernatural for the very first time while in a state of extreme emotional distress, only hours after discovering that her daughter is wanted by the police for murder, and in circumstances such that Buffy simply has no time to sit her down and explain things in more detail in the manner they would both want?  Which is a turn of events that can be attributed in large part to the fact that Giles himself repeatedly told Buffy that she couldn't possibly tell her mother about vampires, even after (1) a vampire attacked her in her own home (in Season 1's Angel) and even after (2) the vampire Buffy had been dating, who had a standing invitation into her house, lost his soul and started going after the people closest to her, people explicitly including Joyce. (And note that Giles never offers a better argument for not sharing this potentially life-saving information than Xander's "the more people who know the secret the more it cheapens it for the rest of us".)
I mean, I know you're all pretty wedded to the popular competing theory that it's because *checks notes* Giles is a perfect dad who Buffy should have been much more grateful and sympathetic towards while Joyce is an evil bitch who never once did a good thing for her daughter (and Buffy must be stupid for ever thinking or saying otherwise), but the problem is that that theory is … uh, bad, actually.  Really incredibly cartoonishly bad. And dressing it up in pseudo-progressive language doesn't make it any better.
Wringing your hands over how poorly you think the show writes middle-aged women as if there's simply nothing to be done about it except conclude that they are indeed horrible people (and maybe give them some completely new flaws the show never did), while at the same time you write endless hagiographies and apologia for the show's canonically terrible (and often just as badly under-written) men is definitely a choice though.
And yes, it is definitely true that Giles matters more to the story of Buffy the Vampire Slayer than Joyce does. It is clear that the writers care about him more as a character than they care about Joyce, and that he is consistently used in a metaphorical way that Joyce normally isn't. At best you can perhaps argue that Joyce exists to vocalize and reify Buffy's own lingering desires to be seen as respectable and 'normal', but I don't think this is a reading the show ever commits to in the systematic way it does the Mind/Heart/Spirit reading of Giles/Xander/Willow. But on a less metaphorical level, thinking about the different characters of the show purely as distinct people in their own right, nothing Buffy says or does ever suggests she cares about her relationship with Giles more than her relationship with Joyce. Quite the opposite, in fact.

I hate when they change like vital plot points of a book to fit in a movie. I mean, first of all the iconic F outfits. The Circus of Talents. We lost Princess Uma, a bad bitch if there ever was one. Anyway thoughts below but I can’t add a read more on mobile so sorry. Spoilers obviously.
Thoughts on the School for Good and Evil movie
Good
- The design and aesthetic of all of it was beautiful. I mean like everything was elegant and stunning and just visually incredibly pleasing.
- Sofia Ann Caruso is a great Sophie, she’s cringey and mean and overdramatic. She is the love child of Megamind and Regina George.
- Also Theron and Washington made great professors.
- The Tedros had a cool sword, iconic dumbassery, was pretty and also had cool fits which is how I like my men personally.
- Sophie and Agatha’s friendship at the start was super natural and well written.
- Soman cameo.
- I loved the little addition of Professor Anemone previously being a history teacher. It was just such a nice little touch to the world building and her character.
- The inherent creepiness of the casting for Rafal. I mean I always imagined him looking like a teenager but him looking like he’s in his twenties and trying to claim Sophie as his child bride really adds that extra layer of ickiness.
- Literally everything with Gregor Charming. An icon, a legend, he is the moment.
Bad
- Sofie Wylie is a good Agatha but they wrote her so blandly. Also like where was the initial awkwardness? We deserved bitchy goth loner Agatha. And like it would’ve been cool if Agatha was more conventionally unattractive. Like no hate to Sofie Wylie she’s absolutely gorgeous but it would’ve been nice if she did have that whole thing of yeah people don’t think she’s pretty but then her personality begins to outweigh that.
- Where the actual everloving fuck where Anadil’s rats? I was promised little rats. I was robbed.
- Why were all the Ever girls such bitches? I mean like passive aggressive? Yeah sure. But they were outright bullies.
- The plot change of Rafal purposefully letting Good grow complacent and vain. I think it’s more interesting when you have Good who genuinely have grown complacent without the manipulation of true evil or whatever. It adds more weight to it.
- The Circus of Talents was iconic and we deserved to have the wolves and fairies reveal.
- The blood magic? I mean like what? You have regular magic, no deus ex machina necessary.
- More development between our girls and Teddy. Like I love him being a pathetic little scrunkly but it felt like everything happened in two days. This may have been better adapted as a show considering it’s meant to be covering a whole year of school.
- We deserved hot pink finger glows.
- Lack of iconic book characters: Princess Uma, Castor and Pollux, the Golden Goose, the little pets they had, Anadil’s rats (yes I’m bitter), the librarian dude whose name I’m forgetting, he has Giles vibes, the seer, you know the dude.
- I wanted to see Hort’s frog pajamas.
- The actual explanation for the nemesis stuff like in the books.
- Where was the witches/Agatha friendship? Sophie betraying Aggie to avoid going home? Dovey caring about Good?
- More mean Sophie. Give the people what they want
- It felt so queer-baity. I know the book three twist but like it was just annoying.
Edit - Also the iconic line ‘I’m worse than my father. Because I still love you.’
All in all it was a fun movie but having loved the books as a kid I felt like they didn’t really get done justice. Two and a half hours wasn’t enough to cover the whole story adequately in my opinion.

Note
one for each of the cast
Teruko Tawaki: will probably end up being somebody’s baby mama and living off that child support after she actually put up the child for adoption but pretends it’s alive for the money
Xander Matthews: I feel like he’s definitely the type to see someone cry and immediately try to make them laugh or cheer them up, and he will do anything from dad jokes to peek-a-boo to see the person smile again.
Min Jeung: She loves Brooklyn, Spanish and Sicilian accents. She really loves all accents in general and can understand almost anybody if any accent, but those are her favorites.
Arei Nageishi: massive Hello Kitty/Sanrio girl. I mean this girl has the stickers on her backpack, folders, dorm room, plushies, etc. she also definitely runs one of those hello kitty toxic female meme accounts that have like 25k+ followers.
David Chiem: There will be times before events where David just does not have the energy to shower so he will just drown himself in perfume and no one tells him that it smells like shit, but it does the trick for him.
Charles Cuevas: This man knows Spanish, but he can not roll his r’s. I’m telling you this man probably had Hispanic parents who were dedicated to learning English and never taught him Spanish, or they had been in the USA for generations. Everyone he knows rips on him for this.
Whit Young: This man drinks up reality TV. I’m telling you he probably watches every single Real Housewives and TLC for hours with just himself, comfy pajamas and a bowl of buttered popcorn.
Eden Tobisa: her parents used to buy her the Lego friends sets and she’d always throw away all of the men in the sets and build each of the sets so her women would have new spaces to have their love-triangle romance drama.
Ace Markey: he definitely lives on some sort of secluded farm and he’s just part of one big happy family, but he always feels he’s the odd one out because of his cowardice, and he was the only one who always got scolded about behavior and grades, so he feels excluded from his siblings.
Veronika Grebenischikova: before she got into horror she used to be a scene/skater kid and she had tons of hair extensions and jewelry made out of Monster tabs. She now is more into gothic subcultures and music.
Rose Lacroix: At one point her and her family were living in their car, so before Rose got into forgery, she would sit for hours until her moms got home and would either beg for money or rob people so they could afford rent for an apartment.
Levi Fontana: Levi’s older brothers are similarly built to him except even taller and even buffer, but they also acted much more tough and got into things and places he shouldn’t have. He learned his bad behavior from them and his parents who had mental issues and could not hold a steady job.
Hu Jing: Her family is always her number one priority but even though her parents are very kind and supportive, she always feels like she needs to lie to them and keep up being a perfectionist and a perfect balance of Chinese for her parents and American for her classmates.
Nico Hakobyan: loves the cottagecore aesthetic and even though they like baggy clothes with the tags cut off most of the time, if they had to ever dress formal for smth, they’d wear a cottsgecore dress.
Arturo Giles: definitely is a drag queen in his spare time or is trans female. He’s constantly up to date with everything celebrity including movies, music and social media, and is the most knowledgeable of people on pop culture at any moment.
J Rosales: her and her brother used to pretend to swap genders when they were younger and they are both transgender and afraid to come out to each other, but the swapping genders game is a core memory
Thanks for reading :)

Recs: Clint/Bucky fics with 200-500 kudos
after going through the entire Clint/Bucky pairing tag on AO3, I did a recs post for my favorite fics with under 200 kudos (a range covering more than half of the works in the tag) and now I've decided to do one for fics with 200-500 kudos (another ~quarter of the tag). there are 36 pages of fic with more than 500 kudos, so I figure most people won't get to these on a casual binge.
What Spring Does With the Cherry Trees, by @bittercape (32k) Bucky moves into Clint's apartment building and starts working on figuring out what he likes. this one has that lovely chill vibe where they both kinda know where their relationship is heading and neither of them is in too much of a rush to get there, which is my absolute favorite kind of slow burn, and there's a lot of focus on reflection and healing and self-care and just hangin out being comfortable with each other <3
You Can Never Go Home Again, by @flawedamythyst (49k) Clint and Bucky get sent back in time to 1939, and Bucky slowly unlearns his internalized homophobia and realizes that the "just two straight buddies helping each other out" handjobs they've been exchanging are not actually straight. I did a literal double-take when I saw how few kudos this had, it is one of my favorite fics in this pairing and it has the single hottest first kiss I have ever read in my entire life
Delicate Tension, by @feedmecookiesnow (53k) beautiful, quiet, sweet, sexy road trip fic, with lots of pleasant imagery in Bucky's photography and a satisfying slow-ish burn that resolves about halfway through so there's some nice early relationship navigation too. the tags are accurate but don't really convey the vibe of it, the trauma stuff is fairly low-key and the general feel is uplifting. also, the choice of tattoo on Clint's ass is INSPIRED, just an absolute *chef's kiss* bit of characterization there
Days That Used To Last A Lifetime, by @there-must-be-a-lock (10k) in which Clint is a dog walker and Bucky is a shameless flirt and both of them are a hot mess and do a lot of recreational drugs and end up murmuring secrets to strangers at ass o'clock in the morning in someone else's apartment
Sequestered, by @lizabethl (38k) in which Clint and Bucky are separately sent off to the same beach house for a much-needed vacation, then hop back on duty just long enough to temporarily acquire a child. deals with some tough stuff but it's mostly about healing and connection and growth
Hydra's Bite, by @flawedamythyst (118k) Buffy AU with a long piney slow burn and great found-family vibes. Clint is the Xander who rescues Bucky from a nest of hydras, Natasha is the Slayer, Coulson is kind of the Giles except undead, Jarvis is the ghost butler, Bruce has a demon living in him, and Tony inherited leadership of the Watchers' Council from his dad. also there's a running joke about all the demons Clint has fucked XD
quickly dream away the time; and then the moon, by @cloud--atlas (16k) Clint is housesitting Tony Stark's mansion in the Hamptons when Lucky gets through a hole in the hedge and makes friends with the hot rich neighbor
Gonna Be My Girl?, by @mightymightygnomepriest (46k) Clint and Bucky hook up while Clint is dressed up as a schoolgirl for Halloween, then they both make some assumptions they shouldn't be making and Clint keeps fucking Bucky in girl mode only. I'm not generally a fan of this kind of miscommunication-based plot, but this one really worked for me
The Middle of the Story, by @lissadiane (13k) look. I know you're gonna read the tag "Clint is literally a unicorn" and immediately want to roll your eyes and close the tab. I know. just... *takes you by the shoulders and looks intensely into your eyes* just trust me, okay
Personal Security (Let's Go Steal Ourselves a Remix), by @supervillainny (8k) Clint develops an inconvenient crush on the head of security at the art gallery he and Nat are about to rob
Boris the Soviet Love Hammer, by @bittercape (11k) the title/tags/summary make this one sound way crackier than it is, it's just a fun get-together fic with a few shenanigans. the part where they're fighting bad guys and Steve goes "Hawkeye, NO" and Clint is just like :D "Hawkeye yes" :D made me laugh very very hard
Universal Constant, by @mariana-oconnor (16k) Clint gets knocked into another dimension where Bucky is a stripper, bangs him, then finds that dimension's Clint and bangs both of them together. A+ no notes
how do you want me, by @feathers-and-cigarettes and @sevdrag (6k) deliciously twisted hookup-turned-attempted-murder-turned-back-to-hookup
All Bark, All Bite, by @hawksonfire (6k) he was a werewolf, he was a vampire, can I make it any more obvious

Captain Alaric’s Demise by Bodhrán M.
(I’m clearing out my PC so I thought I’d share some very old snippets from various works I may or may not go back to)
(This draft was written May, 2017, so I was eighteen years and one month old. I’ve improved significantly since then.)
As soon as the study door swung shut behind them, Fyvie snapped, “What in Myrimus’ name are you doing? Where have you been?”
“Working on something.” Thorne shrugged off the grey fisherman’s oilskin and stored the sack in the desk.
“What is in that?”
“Materials,” Thorne said as he sat down in the chair.
Fyvie glared at his employer. His hair and clothes were damp, and he smelt of the ocean. His hands were scraped and salt-reddened, grains of sand clinging to his skin. But he was smiling, completely relaxed.
“Are you alright?” Fyvie asked more quietly.
“Of course,” Thorne replied easily. He held up his hands and his grin became more rueful, “I wasn’t concentrating and hit some rapids. No harm done.”
Fyvie nodded like he understood. Planting his hands on the desk and exhaling heavily, he said, “You should have left a note. I was worried.”
“My, how the times have changed.” Thorne raised a pale eyebrow and leant back in his chair, folding his arms. “I remember us having that conversation with you. Many, many times. Besides, Giles, I am an adult and in no way obligated to inform you of my constant whereabouts.”
Fyvie closed his eyes in frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose. “That’s not what I’m implying and you know it. If you haven’t noticed, Felix, you’re not exactly a popular man at the moment.”
“Still –“
“Still any one of the other nobles could’ve sent a servant to go knock you over the head. You could have gotten robbed. That damned wizard and his friends could have grabbed you. You could have drowned…”
“The last one is unlikely,” Thorne said defensively. “And none of the nobles would stoop to something so common.”
Fyvie thought of the sneering not-quite-threats in the court. “To them you are common,” he said, “They like poetic justice.”
“I can take care of myself,” Thorne drummed his fingers on the table.
Seeing an opening, Fyvie pressed his point. “I know that,” he said quietly, “But I’d rather be able to help if something does happen. How’d you like it if something happened to me and there wasn’t anything you could do?”
It was the wrong point. Thorne’s face hardened. “That was low, Giles.”
“Then maybe you’ll listen to me,” Fyvie stumbled over his words, watching as Thorne’s gaze flickered between the desk, the door, and upstairs. “You skulking about by yourself and not telling anyone what you’re doing while you have at least five people braying for your blood is the kind of thing you, Dad, and Mam would have had my arse for.”
“For very good reason,” Thorne growled. He stood up, smoothing down his trousers and running a hand through his salt-wired hair. “That’s how you get yourself killed.” Perhaps realising his mistake, he added in an offhanded tone, “And then I would never be able to go near a large body of water for the rest of my life because your parents would drown me.”
“Then why aren’t you telling me anything? What the fuck are you up to?”

Are there, by chance, voice files of the female deputy actually speaking, or a name of the voice actor who recorded the sound effects?
The female Deputy never speaks, but it sounds to me like she has the same voice actor as one of the cultists. You can find a transcript of most of her lines in this document if you search for “CULT_FOLLOWER_FEMALE_05”. One of the Angels might be played by the same person too.
I know Randy Yuen did motion capture for the Deputy in general, and maybe the male Deputy has his voice, but there is no information about who played “CULT_FOLLOWER_FEMALE_05” and the female Deputy…
The actor’s name must be in the credits, however, so probably one of these people:
VOICE TALENT Doug Abrahams Marty Adams Claire Armstrong Ted Atherton Kailea Banka Carolina Bartczak Lawrence Bayne Bruce Blain Jesse Bond Sarah Booth Marc-André Boulanger Wyatt Bowen Paul Braunstein Kimberly D. Brooks Jason Bryden Nicki Burke Mark Camacho Braeden Clarke Lucinda Davis Stacey DePass Bruce Edwards Jake Epstein Jonathan Goad Amber Goldfarb Alain Goulem Rob Greenway Gavin Hammon Ian Hanlin Lauren Jackson Julianne Jain Mara Junot Helen King Jameson Kraemer Gabe Kunda Tristan D. Lalla Erica Lindbeck Erin Mathews James Mathis III Jon McLaren Scott McNeil Cynthia Kaye McWilliams Chimwemwe Miller Julie Nathanson Mayko Nguyen Peter Outerbridge Lindsay Owen-Pierre Giles Panton Christopher Parson Kristen Peace Murry Peeters Simon Lee Phillips Geoffrey Pounsett Claire Rankin David Richmond-Peck Cara Ricketts Kyle Rideout Charlotte Rogers Paula Shaw Jesse Sherman Ivan Sherry Howard Siegel Jonathan Silver Dylan Taylor Jeff Teravainen Brett Watson Jane Wheeler Dan White Scott Whyte Debra Wilson Kim Yarbrough Farid Yazdani
And there is a little more information about who played who on IMDb.
This is all I know for the moment... but I hope it helps :)

Another Second Chance Masterlist, Happily Ever Eventually Masterlist
Author’s Note: The final (hopefully) installment of the Happily Ever Eventually RPF series.
Summary: The final chapter. The end of Happily Ever Eventually. No mas. Y/n gets her life together and finally finds her Happy.
Pairing: Jensen x Reader
Word count: 3458
Story Warnings: 18+! HERE BE SEX!! DON’T READ IF YOU’RE A YOUNG’UN!!!, oral sex (fem rec)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Misha, seriously, dude.” I roll my eyes at the plans he’s got up on the screen-share. He’s worked out a preliminary plan already. I can’t even begin to imagine how he got this shit drawn up so fast.
“It’s going to be amazing, I promise...and I’ve already put together a group chat for the rehab. Everyone that’s going to help will be in the chat. I’ve added Jared and Jensen, of course. I texted a few of the others and I’ll add them as they confirm.”
“Meesh. Shut up for a minute, okay?”
“Okay.” He sounds a bit offended, but I need him to hear me.
“Okay. So…” Straightforward honesty. “I’m excited about this project and I’m so glad that you’re excited too, but you gotta calm down. You can’t Misha all over this. We all have other projects going, right? Those projects, Midsummer especially, take precedence over this house.”
“But if we put all our focus on the house we can get it done in a few weeks!”
“And I’m telling you that is not going to happen,” I assert. He looks shocked at my tone. “Look, I’m a mom before anything, then I’m an actor and a producer, then I’m an owner-builder for this house...in that order. If it takes a little longer to get the house done because I’ve got higher priorities, then it takes a little longer. If that’s a problem for you, I will pay the General Contractor the $60,000 he quoted.”
Thankfully...Misha laughs. “Sorry, I know I can be too much sometimes. All right. We’ll do this in slow-mo. I’ll get everybody on board and divvy up tasks and then we’ll figure out a timetable that doesn’t clash with anybody’s projects. I will not Misha all over this shit.”
I let out a sigh. “Okay. Thank you.”
“No problem. Do you like the designs I did, though?” he asks, drawing my attention back to his screen.
“Oh, yeah, definitely. Where’d you get the idea to get rid of that closet by the garage entrance?”
We get into a conversation about his various visions for my new house and the inspiration for each. When we get off the chat, I’m more excited. I’m excited to do this project, I’m excited that it’s gonna be on my terms. This is going to be great.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By Friday night, the group chat for the rehab has been filled out with Kim, Bri, Rob, Ruth, Rich, Jason, Giles, and Alex.
“I’m gonna add somebody to the group chat,” Jay says as he fiddles with his phone. We’re sitting on the couch, watching Fast Times for the gazillionth time.
“Who?” Half of everybody we’re both friends with is in the chat.
“Somebody who’s good with his hands. He’s agreed to help out.”
My eyebrows go up at the evasion. “Jay?”
My phone beeps as he sets his phone down and a few more before I get to the coffee table to pick it up.
<<Jensen: Hey I added my dad to the chat.
<<Misha: Your dad?
<<Jeff: ya needed someone to swing a hammer?
<<Jared: DAD!
I look over at Jay and he’s got this shiteating grin on his face. “When’s the last time you saw Jeff?”
I scoff. “We met once, Jay. Him and Hilarie were in town for Jeff’s birthday.”
“And you spent the whole party hiding in your drink because you were so nervous. Maybe you’ll actually talk to him this time.”
I look down at my phone. I’m not sure exactly what it is about Jeffery that makes me so shy, but if I had to hazard a guess, it’s that voice. I bite my lip as the others chime in about Jeff helping out.
<<Kim: Do we even need to come if you’re gonna be there? You’ve got this, right?
<<Rob: No1 was this excited about me helping
<<Misha: Oh we know how well you swing a hammer, a hatchet, a baseball bat etc
<<Jeff: Do we have a date on this
That’s a question for me.
>>Me: Three weeks is what we’re looking at. I’ve got all the subs scheduled for the week after that
And Misha will chime in next.
<<Jared: Anything that’s not finished after the subcontractors week will get finished out by me, Misha, and Ackles.
<<Misha: What’s left will get done by me, Jared, and Jensen.
Timing needs work, Misha.
<<Jared: I JUST said that
<<Jeff: Hil and I will be there. She’s got a good eye she can help with anything you need designwise
<<Alex: Wow this really became a SPNFAMILY event
I smile.
>>Me: Wouldn’t have it any other way, Al.
“This is gonna be fun. Even if we never get finished and I have to get a contractor, I think this is gonna be fun.”
Jay nods and pulls me into his lap. “It will be fun. Even if we fuck it up, we will all be together and that’s what matters, right?”
“Exactly right,” I say, smiling. He’s giving me that look. That…’everything is amazing’ reverent look. I love that look. “I have a question.”
I have to ask. Five years ago, I wouldn’t ask. Five years ago, I’d let it boil and explode all over my psyche. I know how unhealthy that can be now. I have to ask.
“So...you know I went and saw Dr. McAuliffe the other day, right? First appointment since me and you started seeing each other again and she, um…” I close my eyes because his eyes are getting to me and I have to ask. “She expressed some doubt about the thing you told me about the...the dry spell you broke with me on the yacht.”
“Baby Girl,” he whispers.
“And I really wouldn’t ask because I want to think you wouldn’t be dishonest with me after everything but if I don’t ask then it’s going to fester and I want to do the healthy thing and nip that in the bud before it gets to that point and-”
“I didn’t lie,” he says and I blink my eyes open to look into his. “I get the doubt, but I didn’t lie. From the moment I left you behind in Vancouver to the moment you started rubbin’ on me in that movie theater, no one touched me but me.” He reaches up and cups my cheek. “I’ve been told I was punishing myself. I feel like I was just saving myself for the right woman to come back into my life.”
Well, that...damn Dr. McAuliffe for making me doubt him. “I believe you,” I whisper. “I’m so sorry that I-”
“Never feel bad about asking questions to make yourself feel better. I’m glad you asked. It’s better than letting it fester, right?” He’s so understanding.
I lean in and kiss him. The hand on my cheek moves to the back of my neck and he pulls me into a deeper kiss. Our tongues move across each other and I start rolling my hips a bit. He gets hard in his jeans and I start to feel that tingle of wetness. He moans into my mouth and wraps his arms around me, pulling me into his lap harder.
“Bedroom?” I offer. He picks me up and carries me all the way to the bed. I pull my shirt off and toss it to the side of the bed. He hisses and bites his bottom lip as he looks down at me, grabbing his shirt and pulling it off over his head.
He’s leaning over me, kissing my neck and shoulder, before I can really think too much. He starts kissing his way down my chest into the valley between my breasts. God, he’s good at that, nibbling kisses with just enough suction and teeth. “Get this off,” he whispers, pulling at my bra.
I reach under me and undo my bra with one hand. Jay immediately takes a nipple between his teeth and tugs. I gasp and grab a fistful of his hair. His tongue starts soothing where his teeth dug in and I just let my head fall back and my eyes close. I just let myself feel as he kisses all the way down my body. The rest of my clothes find the floor, too and then his tongue is on me. Fuck, his tongue is good. There’s almost nothing better than cumming on his tongue.
Almost.
“Can you grab a condom?” He backs off the bed and unbuckles his belt as I reach over to grab a condom out of the side table. I stare at him as he drops his pants. This is just...such a beautiful sight. Especially when he smiles all cocky like that. “You’re staring.”
“Nah. Why would I be staring?”
“I have no clue why, but I think you might have the hots for this old man.”
"I don't go for old guys," I respond as I rip open the condom. "So you must not be as old as you think you are." I offer him the condom with a smirk and he takes it.
"Hmmm. Your delusions work in my favor so I won't point out how old I really am."
"I'm not delusional and you aren't old. Shut up and kiss me," I demand.
He chuckles and puts on the condom, laying over me and kissing me for a few minutes before I get frustrated with waiting and reach between us to line him up with my pussy.
We move together. It's nine different kinds of perfection. We kiss and I scratch my nails down his back as he thrusts into me. He moves to kiss down my jaw and along my neck.
"This is why I couldn’t fuck anybody else," he whispers. "Never be like this."
God, when he says things like that…
I shouldn’t feel guilty about trying to move on, right? I shouldn't feel guilty about Will.
So...I won't. Jensen chose not to try to move on. Jensen focused on other aspects of his life without me. He chose to keep the torch lit and...fuck, I'm glad he did, but I had to try to move on. It was part of my growth.
"Get outta yer head," he mumbles into my skin before leaning up to kiss me.
Right. Not supposed to be thinking. "Sorry," I whisper into his lips.
He thrusts into me and I gasp. Fuck, that's good. "Love you so much."
"Love you too, Jay."
And I do. I love him so fucking much.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Y'all, seriously. This is...insane." How else am I supposed to describe this group standing in my yard? A dozen actors and musicians in matching blue coveralls with their names on them, each with a hammer in their hand. "Who coordinated the outfits?"
Jay and Kim both raise their hands. "We needed a uniform," Jay says, smirking.
"So we had these made up and here are yours!" Kim pulls out a pair of coveralls and holds them up. Instead of my name, it says "HBiC" over the breast pocket. I can't help but laugh. "It's your house, your project, and we aren't going to do anything without your consent. Right, Collins?"
"I already agreed to that! Jeez!" Misha complains.
"Go slip that on and we'll get started on the demo," Jensen says as Kim hands the uniform over.
"He's usually trying to get her out of her clothes, so this is an improvement," Jared teases and I chuckle as I rush into the house, running into the half bath off the living room.
By the time I get out of there, everybody is waiting in the kitchen. "All right, boss. Where you want us to start?" Jeff asks and I bite my bottom lip as my face heats up. Why does his voice do that?
"Ummm, M-Misha has the, um, the plans. I think we only need five or six people in here to demo the cabinets and a couple to take down the walls for the closet that's coming down and the rest of us can head to the master bath to start demoing that nasty counter and the toilet and then we can play with the flooring samples and the, um, p-paint."
"Mind if I?" Jay lets the question hang but I know he's asking for a bit of control. I nod and he smiles. "All right. Jared, Jeff, Misha, Bri, Richard, and I will take the kitchen. Alex, Kim, Jason, you can break the closet. Everybody else head up to the master. We can get this all knocked out quick."
Good delegation. "See you when we get to a stopping place," I say, going to my tiptoes to kiss Jay's cheek before I go up the stairs to the master bedroom.
Things move smoothly, especially considering the complete lack of experience most of us have with this sort of work. We're sweaty and burning hot by the time we get the bathroom torn apart.
"Water? Pretty sure Manns brought a cooler full of drinks," Hilarie offers and we all nod and leave the bathroom.
Jay's talking, I can hear him as I'm coming down the stairs.
"-will be great for the resale on it. She's gonna be able to sell the place for at least a hundred grand more than she paid."
"She hasn't even moved in yet and you're already trying to get her to sell?" Jeff asks.
"Well, no, not yet. She wants her own place for a while and I get that, but when I ask her to marry me, we'll probably move in together." I stop in my tracks halfway down the stairs. Everybody stops behind me. Marry? What?
"You're planning to pop the question?" Rob asks.
"Already?" Rich's voice.
"Yeah, bought a ring, just gotta figure out her size and get it altered." What? What the- My stomach is suddenly in knots.
"That’s great!" Jason.
"Um, isn't it a little-" Misha starts.
"Early? You've only been talking since September," Jared says. His voice is a bit judgmental.
"We're in love. Why wait?"
"Because you're pushin' too hard and you're gonna scare the woman away, dummy." Jeff? How does Jeff know how this is gonna affect me and Jensen doesn't?
"Jeff's right. She's always been a 'push too hard and you'll push her away' kinda woman," Jared says. Thank God our friends are here to talk him out of this.
"You need to wait, Jensen," Misha advises.
"I don't really want to wait, guys. I've been waitin' on her for five years."
"You're an idiot, Ackles," Jared says.
"Don't scare her off, dumbass." Kim. "We just got the gang back together and you're gonna send her back to her corner where she only talks to me and Bri?"
"What am I, chopped liver?" Misha asks. Hello, fourth grade.
"With onions," Kim snaps.
"Gotta go with them. They know her better than most, right?" Al Cal with the quiet wisdom. "Just slow your roll, man."
"Well, too late. I've already got the ring in my sock drawer."
"Don't give it to her!" That was a few voices.
Shit. I hope...I can't listen anymore. I push past the others and run up the steps as softly as possible. I end up in the office because it's the closest to the staircase. Hilarie and Ruth follow me in. Giles, I guess, doesn't know me well enough to be involved in my drama. I get that. He's Misha's BFF, not mine.
"Hey. You okay?" Hilarie asks as I throw myself down in the corner.
"Lovely, you're going to be just fine. I know that was a wee shock but-" Ruth starts.
"It's too much. I just...just a few weeks ago, he suggested moving in together again and I told him it was too much and now he's got a ring? I have to...I can't think about...what the fuck is he thinking?"
"He was thinking that you weren’t listening," Hilarie says, running her fingers through her hair.
"He's moving too fast. I have to tell him…"
"No, you don't!" Hilarie shakes her head. "You weren't supposed to hear that."
I know that. "I know, but I can't hold it in! That isn't healthy!" I bring my head down to my knees and bury my face as Ruth rubs my back. "Honesty is the utmost. I have to talk to him and tell him that-that it's too much. He should know it's too much."
He should already know! I told him that it was too much, too fucking fast last month and now it's...Jesus fuck, I can't-
"Hey." Misha's voice makes me sniffle but I don't look up. I just need to breathe and think and- "G said you might need me."
Misha drops down on my right side and wraps me in a hug. "I heard him. He wants me to marry him. I'm not there yet."
"I know...and I think he does too. He just really wants to fix it all and have the happy ending."
I look up. Ruth and Hilarie have stepped back to the middle of the room, Giles is standing in the doorway. "I don't want to have to tell him 'no', Misha...but if he asks anytime soon…"
"I know and I think he's not-"
"I'm not gonna ask," Jay says as he walks in the room. "Misha, can I have the room for a few?" Misha kisses my temple and stands, giving Jensen a pointed look before he follows the others out. Jensen closes the door and turns to me. "So, you heard me."
"Yeah."
He sighs and leans against the wall across from the one I'm sitting against. "I know. 'Too much, too fast', right? But ya gotta see it from my side, Baby Girl. I love you. I love you with everything I have to give. I have been loving you for so many years and…" He licks his lips and puts his hands in his pockets and he looks very Dean in this moment. "I fucked up and ruined our opportunity to get to our happy ever after five years ago and I just want to...I just wanna get there. I just want us happy."
"I am happy, Jay," I insist, standing. "But if happy for you only happens when I have that ring on my finger and we're living in some huge house and we've rushed into some commitment, then that’s too much pressure! That puts me in charge of your happiness and I-"
"No, no, I am happy. I'm very happy. I'm just...you know that old Rascal Flatts song? 'Why wait another minute for something we shoulda done yesterday?'" he sings. "But I understand where you're comin' from. I understand that it's a lot of pressure and it seems like I'm rushing to get it going and I'm not trying to pressure you into doing anything. I wouldn't ever wanna do that to you. So I'm not gonna ask." What does that even mean? He smiles as he steps closer, pulling his hands out of his pockets and moving to caress my cheek. "I've got the ring. You know I have it, I know you’re gonna wanna wear it someday. When you decide you're ready to have the same last name as your son, you just let me know and I will dig it outta the sock drawer. Won't even get down on one knee or anything. You say when you're ready and I will make you my bride."
That...takes the pressure off. "Okay, Jay."
I lean up and kiss him. "Sorry I freaked."
"Sorry I made you freak." He smiles and nods at the door. "Thirsty?"
I nod and follow him out. Everything is gonna be okay.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took a while, a few weeks longer than Misha predicted, but the house is beautiful. The paint and flooring and countertops that Hilarie helped me pick out go so perfect with the new stain on the cabinets. There's so much space...and the fence we put up is taller and prettier than the one I had at the older house.
We have a moving service, but we still load a bunch of boxes into the back of Jensen’s truck and drive them over. It's kinda crazy to be here. Life changes, right? I've said it before. Everything changes always but…
I'm in a great place. New home, great love, my wonderful kids in the backseat playing tic-tac-toe. Things have never been this good...and for the first time in my entire life, I don’t fear things going bad. For the first time in my entire life, I'm happy with no reservations.
I knew I'd get there...eventually.
~~~~~~~~~~
Author's Note 2: That's it. That's the end of Happily Ever Eventually. Do they get married? Who knows? Do they ever have another breakdown? No tellin'. It's over. I'm done. No more.
But...
I just love these characters so much!
Fuck, I'm just gonna have to keep writing them, aren't I? Dammit!
Well, I guess now's a good time to let you guys know...
NEW SERIES COMING SOON: To Have it All!
First part: Permission Granted
Tumblr media
I'm retelling the whole story from Jensen's POV (and going a little bit past where the story ends here so that those questions above get answered), so if there's some specific bit you were wondering "What was he thinking here?" Let me know and I'll make sure it makes it into the new series!
If Buffy's first Watcher when she'd arrived in Sunnydale had been played by a middle-aged woman but otherwise said and done everything that Rupert Giles did in canon she would be the most hated character on the show by a long way.
Think of all the crimes she'd be accused of. Repeatedly trying to micromanage Buffy's life (not just giving her orders as a Slayer but trying to decide who she could spend time with outside class and who she could date? how controlling. how abusive), talking down to her and second-guessing her decisions, hiding important information from her (when not too clueless to know anything about it herself, which she would be repeatedly), forcing her to fight vampires every night and not even offering to do something simple like complete Buffy's homework on her behalf, constantly lying to her, cheerfully pocketing a salary from the Council and keeping it for herself, never showing Buffy the emotional support Buffy so desperately craved from her and actively recoiling whenever Buffy suggested she was a parental figure, working with Buffy's enemies (on multiple occasions! and being trivially forgiven for it off-screen!), sulking and refusing to help whenever she felt she wasn't being given enough respect, threatening to run back to England on a regular basis, hoarding dangerous magical books in her shop where Buffy's sister and anybody else could easily find them, drugging Buffy and robbing her of her powers while knowing Buffy was about to be forced to fight a dangerous vampire, murdering people Buffy had actively chosen to spare, being responsible for Buffy's death twice and being too self-absorbed afterwards to stay and look after Buffy's grieving teenage sister.
Large parts of the fandom would, I'm sure, be utterly convinced that she was the only reason Buffy left town at the end of Season 2. I mean, of course she was to blame; didn't she spend months insisting Buffy couldn't tell anyone about being a Slayer? and all keeping that secret managed to do was cause Buffy problems; it didn't keep anyone safe at all. No wonder Buffy was upset. So you see, it wasn't anything to do with Angel or the pressure of having to save the world by sending her first real boyfriend to hell that meant Buffy left: no, it was all Buffy's Watcher's fault. And then she has the audacity to chase after Buffy and try to force her back to Sunnydale, when it's clear that Buffy left for a reason and doesn't want to be found? What a monster.
I'm kidding, of course.
If Buffy's first Watcher had been played by a middle-aged woman the writers would have killed her off before the first season was over and replaced her with a man.
(Most of the fandom would still passionately hate her though, I'm not wrong about that.)
