So I watched shin vs neo again with my irls for my bday given how short it is and I didn’t have a actual movie for the occasion-bc let’s face it SvN is probably the closest thing will ever get to a getter movie lol-and while I enjoyed it as per usual one of my irls who had it be their first getter exposure was like “I have no idea what’s happening” and while I kept joking “lol if you saw arma you’d be even more lost” it dawned on me why new is probably the better first getter experience overall and it ain’t even because there’s less characters + is the starring cast-well besides Musashibo-to really grasp stuff, it kinda ties back to another issue getter has: The Go team have not gotten a proper accurate adaptation and probably the getter team who’s done the dirtiest despite getting more appearances than arc, because arc team at least got a manga accurate anime.

I’ve realized this for awhile but now I understand the want for a getter go anime even if I’m doubting it’s happening god.

curious about early days vibes for the flying stars if you have more thoughts about that. like it sounds like they go from being two sets of two weirdos to being a set of four weirdos all together and that seems like it would be a bit of a process

oh it is. absolutely a Whole process. like already the friendship btwn robo and otter with roope is. weird. because those two have their own longer history and um. deeper. connection. but roope is good and has amazing stage presence and promised them a bassist so they kind of. brute force their way through it.

and roope isn’t Bad company, he’s just. not the easiest to connect to? and they think it’s a language barrier thing, or maybe he’s just like that but no. his english is like great for the most part and he seems silly and fun with his other friends. but they find out after playing together a bit that he and robo have Electric chemistry. like their styles play off each other really well in every way. so while roope still absolutely fucking refuses to give into north american ideas of politeness (why would i ask how you are if i don’t care. just because we’re in a space together for a few minutes doesn’t mean we have to introduce ourselves when we’re strangers. dont talk to me) he does let them in a bit more over the few weeks they exist pre-miro.

and then they find out miro isn’t just a random bassist he knows Here but a bassist from Back Home. like finland home. and they’re like??? maybe we should meet him first? like call or text or something at least? is he already flying out here?? wdym you dont know anyone else more. idk. in america? and roopes like. okay shut up no he’s good. you’ll see you’ll get it. and also yeah he already booked his flight soo. and then when miro Does finally get to the states and they organize a little meet up it completely changes their perspective on roope because like. okay they thought they made Progress. they cracked through that shell and could unlock the roope they saw with his other friends. Wrong. they saw roope mostly with american friends. they are not prepared for the loud ass rapid fire finnish that he and miro break into, or the clear ease in the way they interact, in general and physically. and theyre like :/ oh maybe we didnt unlock shit and this is gonna be awful and awkward as we feared.

so despite the fears that miro is gonna be as stand offish as roope felt at the start, they actually get along really well with him off the bat, like he comes off much friendlier, and sure he’s a little quiet but its not like. Concerning. and roope was right. he IS really good and they DO get it. for the first little while it is for sure like, two separate weird duos that just kind of seem friendly with each other - not helped by the fact that miro is living with roope while otter is sorting out school stuff and robo is in and out of the state for a bit - but once they’re all able to Solidly be together otter realizes like. wait a fucking minute. miro isn’t nice. roope hasn’t gotten nicer. they’re just Secretly being assholes together.

this realization of course brought on when robo asks possibly the dumbest shit he’s ever heard in his life during practice and miro just hits him with a “yeah of course (:” as if he doesn’t deserve to get torn apart for saying it. and wow miro says that a lot. they thought it was a weird filler but No he’s just making fun of them to their face and roope is just giggling along with him. and ofc when this is called out miro is like “no no i was just trying not to hurt ur feelings 🤗” and even if that was believable roope starts blowing up his spot chuckling anyways So.

so once That is put out there things sloowly start clicking into place because they’re like. okay we get your stupid sense of humor now. we can work with this. and miro IS more willing to conform to american politness which probably soothes otter’s midwestern soul a little. and because of this they do find it easier to get close to miro, and through like. osmosis or whatever robo and otter grow on roope as well. and it Cannot be denied that robo and roope’s insane chemistry on stage can be carried on offstage….. to say the least .

so basically through the powers of being so stubborn and gay and mean. they can all b friends <3 and maybe friends who kiss <3

We saw some glimpses of “him” when he talked to Blitz on their own, arguing back and forth, even if it was cut short every single time. but outside of that he just…deflates. But I’ll admit in his quitting performance he was kindve there? Idk. Which was nice, and balanced with the Oz hug. The inconsistent assertiveness and submissiveness gets me because at least one is real and the other is put on. How can they both be real and both be fake?

It’s a pretty curious design, the head specially, reminds me of Pyramid head in that part but also, in some way, to the spaghetti robots in infinity train? Idk how my brain works.

They don’t seem to be like, fighter robots? More like just normal crew robots. Also, why do they sound British? They have a British accent in my head, why.

I am gonna reveal as much as I can, the spaceship is based off an old western wheel and has a horseshoe, so these guys are shaped like robo cowboys (the fringe, the stirups whattnot)

The triangle was yes, inspired by piramid head actually! And are you reading my sketchbok post its??? Cause the wires were entirely based on the wire bot from infinity train (fucking love that thing)

The triangle thingy at its core is a cowboy hat, I wanted to have its tilt be how the design can express different things

oh oh oh you are onto something my good friend, they are not designed for combat, but CAN fight. That is why Ronin was able to crumple one with his bare hands, they are tin cans

I tried to convey a sort of southern cowboy accent, but actually? British is fucking hilarious, imagine a fucking sowboy robot comming up to you like "tea my good sir? Some bickies for your troubles?"

would also match the inspiration for the entire setting of this comic (red dwarf ->fucked up dudes in space sci-fi sitcom)

i only really have two Actual gripes with certain choices

the anti-climatic springlock scene, and the choice to make vanessa the afton and not mike

like for the springlock failure scene, in all iterations of it, its always an instant thing

like in that one minigame scene, you hear them creak for a sec, and then they ALL chomp at once and he screams

but in the movie it was just kinda gradual which ig they had to do??

like how all the major death scenes were either off screen or like,,,,, shadows

which ig i understand bc they didnt wanna make it too exclusive by going all the way to r rated

but yeah in like all iterations of the springlock failure scene its always smth wet triggers in, and then bam they all go off, like theres springlocks EVERYWHERE like those fuckers puncture EVERYTHING

i mean we get like some close ups of them cutting into his stomach but like

like the whole point was that stealing kids from the pizzeria was convenient, so why go all the way out to some forest in nebraska to kill a kid

but back to vanessa, like i understand how in the books there was the vanessa a., so obviously everyone thought that stood for afton, and even when she was in security breach people thought she was an afton

i just think the choice to make Her aftons kid, and make MIKE FUCKIGN SCHMIDT have zero relation to him was just Very Odd

Reading the Robo -Ky side story again (only the second time. Every other time I considered it I immediately felt too ill to do so). There's a line here that implies that he doesn't have x ray vision which is interesting because he has a line when defeating Bridget (in accent core) that states that he does? One would say "oh, it's a different Robo-Ky, then" but his personality here is very in line with accent core and thus I feel as if it IS the same... IDK lol. He never canonically meets Bridget during accent core so I suppose I'll mark it down as 'extremely minor in-house continuity error that isn't important unless he says he has x ray vision in xrd in which case.... Damn bro idk'.

This is actually very good for characterizing. Accent Core itself is useful, of course, but I must admit that the act of playing through it makes it harder for me to sit and analyze the lines lolll. I'll have to write up a script of it at some point to refer to.

The fact that Robo-Ky has nightmares makes me physically ill. If I was crow the moment I found out that a robot I built had artificial intelligence to the point of DREAMING WHILE IN SYSTEM REPACKAGING MODE I'd quit my job and become a full time roboticist. That's IMPRESSIVE DUDE. holy shit.

WAIT??? ROBO-KY MENTIONS FIGHTING BRIDGET??? and he knows that she's trans which is part of his defeat line in Accent Core (You're a girl? But my X-ray vision can see straight through your— err, forget I said that! (changed slightly to be a tinge more tasteful to modern Bridget)). What's the truth, side story.... What's the truth.... Because if he knows her from base XX story mode, then that canonizes all of the Robo-Ky interactions within that game as having been the original Robo-Ky (the one we see in X plus, Accent Core, and XRD). Which I'm fine with, it's just interesting.

Robo-Ky talks about dreams and makes a significant divide between "visions you see while in rest mode" and "thing that you aspire to have". It's extremely fascinating.

I still absolutely adore RK recording data with pen and paper and then scanning it when he's done. That's... That's great. I love it.

I know it's for comedic effect, but Robo-Ky has a moment where he ponders what expressive words mean when applied to himself, someone that absolutely fits the emotional intent of the words but not the binary definition. It's extremely interesting. I love seeing the depth of emotion and thought he has before the climax of the story. It helps set up that he DID feel these things and have this depth of thought and reasoning before it became a more visible part of himself. it's great.

Anyway the last page is such an emotional ride (the lightning) that I can't say anything constructive.

Uh. I wonder why Ky didn't continue attacking Robo-Ky? I know he had just displayed painful emotion at his fellow RK dying, but she seems... IDK. I'm not a Ky analyzer. Thanks for not killing him I guess. I'm ill goodbye

I'm suddenly confused if you're implying Robo is autistic. Like, I know McDavid is frequently coded as much but I've seen Robo labeled that in a few places and I have question marks floating above my head.

aksjhdg no worries! so first of all i am not Actually diagnosing any of these guys with anything. this is all just joking that first stemmed from my tags on this post, which is a quote from an mma guy talking about creating a champion by finding someone w autism & adding steroids into the mix with them. there's been a couple of posts in a similar (if less batshit) sports-and-autism vein floating around sportsblr recently (i know i reblogged this one but i've seen others too) & they all have the same half-serious tone. but i think the conversation is all just in fun! i've been aiming for a similar half-joking tone w these asks and i am, again, not pretending to know how any of these dudes' heads work.

do i think more professional athletes than not are some flavor of neurodivergent? probably, idk. but they're also in professions where their neurodivergence helps them out & they can control their environments in a way that probably really works for them even without a diagnose so also Who Cares.

i think a lot of people jokingly applying the label to robo comes less from him being a hockey robot in the mold of mcdavid and more from being the kind of guy described in the second post i linked — very much the 'jocks are just autistic people with a special interest in sports' vibe.

personally i feel like part of that read on him is coming from how intense he is w his personal tape review? during games you see him watching plays back on the ipad almost immediately but we also know that he rewatches every game in full the next day, etc etc etc. the way he talks through the game is also very analytical & insightful, which i think mostly just comes from him being better w media than most guys but also adds to the general theme of him just seeing the game in a different way & also being able to articulate it pretty well. also probably his general homeschool kid aura & maybe the goalie special interest. who knows!

but yeah idk where/why it first popped out from so the question marks definitely make sense!! i hope this helped clear up my tone and word choices but lmk if not <3

Also maxwill being a alter is really weird, I see that in AO3 a lot too. I see it more like he “became” maxwill to start a new life. It’s not an alter but him putting his old life behind him and starting everything fresh, which ppl still do to this day. AND he doesn’t mention his old life, because he would rather burying it deep in his mind and heart than let anyone find out. Bro got some huge issues and is a mess and we love him, even if he got a lil crazy with power and fame- WE STILL LOVE HIM

And I like WX78 as he is. I see him like he’s trying to “perfect” his body, his vessel. To separate himself from his “fleshy” self, or at least that’s what I got from the short. To be a literal working machine so that his projects and inventions can be as perfect as him. Robo dude got a lot to unpack tbh, and I love him!

But idk maybe I’m wrong, I haven’t really seen or heard anyone talk about it much about the characters other than, as mentioned before, in AO3. Like, the whole point of my psychotic Wilson post is about how psychotics aren't taken seriously, or listened to, how Wilson has to try twice as hard, and how that interacts with him being a scientist! So people calling him stupid on that post just made me very sad. I'm glad you understood :)

Also, I don't have anything against headcanoning Maxwell as a system, I just think it's weird to treat it as Maxwell being some inherently evil part of William that William needs to be "saved" from. That's just a weird way to frame it, and perpetuates the weird "evil alter" stereotype. Personally I think Maxwell as a system is fine! The whole splitting his mind thing when it comes to the shadow clones could definitely be interpreted that way, I just think you have to be sensitive about how you portray that since systems are heavily demonized. (There Can be alters who are assholes but the answer isn't to DESTROY them because they're EVIL, so you can go on your merry way.. It's usually just Communication.)

Also I like your interpretation of WX-78! You should know though that they canonically use they/them and are nonbinary! :]

AO3 definitely has a big problem with simplifying characters down in a disappointing way. (It's also in a lot of fandoms on Tumblr I've seen.) Like the whole inherently evil Maxwell thing that robs his character of all of its really interesting and complicated depth.. A lot of the time it seems like it's for the sake of shipping or angst? People want something bad to happen to X so they end up making Y absolutely godawful terrible. People want X to like Y so they make X a love-struck idiot despite being cold and calculating in canon. The annoying part is that there are ways to make those things happen without changing the characters most of the time, and oftentimes that would make a way more interesting story!!!! Me and my friends call it "Fandom brain" lol.

Like, I enjoy angst, and shipping, but its disappointing when they simplify the characters too much. It feels like I'm reading angst/shipping of completely different characters than the ones I actually care about.

ROTTMNT SPOILERS AHEAD

Ok so something I noticed

Future Mikey doesn't have his mask.

And he's not referred to as a ninja anymore (and neither is Donnie when Casey talks about their future selves) which leads me to think that perhaps he and Donnie left behind the way of the ninja to better pursue what they're good at. For mikey it'd be his mystic abilities and becoming the greatest mystic warrior, and for Donnie it'd be focusing on his inventive skills and his tech (basically becoming Iron Man) and inventing better weapons to fight the kraang.

Because the time that the kraang take over the world is the same in both timelines, which means that for the rest of their teenage and adult lives, these boys have had to fight the kraang tooth and nail to survive. So being a ninja would have to be shelved in order for them to focus on doing everything they can and really tapping into their natural talents to help not just themselves but humanity as a whole. Donnie's tech is beyond anything anyone else can create, he can build weapons of mass destruction (hell, nukes even) which could boost the resistance tenfold if he doubled down on it (and I'm convinced he did). Mikey on the other hand is exactly what leo said. A badass mystic warrior. Dude can open time gateways, throw entire buildings, fire lazers, teleport, etc. He focused on training his mystic abilities so he could better be that wizard type on the team not only for fighting purposes but also healing (when Casey asks him to heal leo), escapes, defense, etc.

Leo obviously stays with what he knows, being a ninja and taking on the role of the Hamato clan and being the resistance leader. He keeps everyone unified and supports them, allowing them to use their abilities like a well-oiled machine to better their chances of survival. Obviously it wasn't enough, but it allowed them to at least make it to 2044.

Idk about Raph because he's never mentioned in the future other than that we know he and Donnie died at some point (and Raph definitely died first because Donnie models Leo’s robo arm after their fallen brother). I'm thinking maybe he died shortly after the Kraang's first arrival to earth, sacrificing himself for his team and family so they could go on and live to fight another day, much like how he did in the movie (and we see parallels with the boys' death moments in the movie too, so I think that moment he got stabbed in the shell was a parallel to how he died saving his brothers).

Raph said that since he’s the oldest, it all falls on him, and if he falls it’s up to Leo to be the next leader. And I think that his sacrifice is what got through to Leo to become the leader his team needed him to be.
