Summary: A broken furnace and a slip of the tongue lead to a special gift from your very stubborn boyfriend. Andy Barber x Black Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Angst, Protective Andy Barber, Insecure Reader, Pet Names, Light Smut, Implied Oral (fem receiving), Cursing, Minors DNI.
A/N: I don't know where this came from, but it's almost 3AM and I need to sleep. Anyway, I'm halfway done with like eight different fics, most of them requests. But then my writer's block kicked in. Please enjoy this installment while I try to get my life together. Part of my Growing Pains Series. All mistakes are my own.
___
"Ack, Andy Bear! What are you doing here?" You squeal as your man strides through your front door with you in his arms, your short legs wrapped around his trim waist. "Sh-shouldn't you be packing? Ope - don't forget the door!"
His booted heel kicks it closed. "Had to come check on you." Andy responds before brushing his warm lips over your own. "I'm your man, baby. It's what I do."
"But I'm fine..." You tell him, burying your face in the crook of his neck and inhaling his clean, masculine scent. "I don't need anything."
"No, you said you were cold. That makes you not fine." He tells you as his hand skims its way under your sweatshirt to lightly stroke your lower back. "I can't have you over here freezing while I'm out of town - I wouldn't be able to concentrate. I'd be too busy thinkin' about my baby girl home all alone just shivering."
"Oh, my goodness, Big Man. My landlord will be by to fix my furnace in a couple of days. Until then...I guess I'll just have to keep doubling up on sweatshirts." Wanting him to relax, you begin whispering sweet kisses along his bearded jaw, nuzzling at the soft scruff with your nose.
"A couple days is completely unacceptable." He growls, his tone letting you know that he was in no mood to argue. "It's November. And we live in fucking Massachusetts."
"Andy, sweetheart..." He shifts your smaller frame so that you're resting comfortably on his hip. Your boyfriend then carries you to your room and gently deposits you on your pink and periwinkle-colored duvet, all the while ignoring your feeble protests.
"You're staying at my place until that Ralph fucker decides to get off his ass and do his fucking job." Your man informs you as he begins rifling through your drawers, pulling out items and then haphazardly tossing them into your overnight bag.
God, how you adored every inch of your big, overbearingly ridiculous man.
"Honey, his name is Rodney. And I'll be fine. If it gets too bad, I can go stay with Melissa or something."
"Nope." Andy grunts, holding a pair of lacy pink panties up to the light. "The matter's already been settled. I want you in my home, snuggled in my bed, all tangled up in my of the sheets."
Shaking his head, he tosses the underwear back inside before muttering something about you "only needing the essentials".
Wait. Since when did those no longer fall under the category of essential?
"How many bras do you think you'll need? Eh, fuck it. You can bring 'em all if you want. It's the panties I have a problem with. Damned things always get in the way."
You scrub an exhausted hand over your face as your six-foot-something boyfriend remains hunkered in front of your dresser, quietly debating the usefulness, or lack-there-of, of your underthings.
"They get in the way of what?" Of course you just had to know.
"My fun." He grumbles, flashing you a petulant look. "So they stay here. Shit - I left my garment bag by the door. Go on and snag a few blouses and some pants, baby girl, and I'll help you get them all packed up before we freeze to death in here."
"Oh. My. God." You roll your eyes. It wasn't even that cold.
At least not yet.
"Andrew, darling, I never actually agreed to go with you. Plus, I don't even have a key to - oh." Your stubborn bull of a man silences you with a heated look before reaching into his back pocket and pulling out a small white box tied with a black ribbon.
"I was planning to give this to you on your birthday, but this seems like a much better time. As of now, I want you to consider my home your home too."
Removing the key from the box, you stare down at the shiny piece of metal your man had made especially for you.
Why did the weight of it feel so good resting in your hand?
"Thank you." You whisper, tears burning the back of your throat.
"You're welcome, Y/N. I want you to use it whenever. Come stay for a night, or for a week..."
Or, for forever. He thinks, letting the unspoken words hang in the air between you.
"But as for your not agreeing to go with me, well, I'm afraid that just won't work." Andy tsks as he zips up your duffle before unceremoniously tossing it into the hall. "One way or another, we're getting you out of this ice box, little one."
"Okay," you try again. "But what about my car? I really don't think -"
"Why are you fighting me on this?" He asks, his sensual lips set in a thin, firm line. "I need you some place safe and warm while I'm busy shaking hands and negotiating deals in D.C."
Your eyes stray back to the key that is now nestled safely in its little box filled with pink tissue paper.
"Answer me, please." Oh, Andy was using his attorney voice, the one that commanded both respect and attention in the courtroom.
"I - I just don't want to be any trouble. I feel bad for even saying anything about my stupid heat in the first place." You admit with a resigned shrug. "You need to be getting ready for your trip, but instead you're - you're here."
"I'm here because you need me."
"But I - I don't." You wince as those two words come tumbling out of your mouth.
Because it was a lie. You did need him.
"That scares you a little bit, doesn't it? The idea of needing someone, of needing me."
"No." You feel your lower lip begin to tremble ever so slightly.
God, yes.
"Y/N, how many times do I have to remind you that we're in this together? I'm your man. And I'm old-school when it comes to that shit. I believe in taking care of my woman, in providing for her however I can."
"I get it, Andy." You do your best to look at everything and everywhere but him. This man had a knack for making you feel vulnerable, and you weren't always comfortable with that.
"No, you don't." Using two long fingers, he tips your chin so that his soulful blue eyes clash with your own. "Whether you realized you were doing it or not, you called because you needed me today. And it's my job to take care of you - all of you."
"But I don't want to be a job for you. A job runs the risk of becoming a burden real fuckin' quick. And then when it becomes too much, bam! You run the other way." You jerk away from him, preferring to stare at your fuzzy sock-clad feet, wishing you could simply melt into the floor.
And there it was. You were afraid that this man would drop you like a bad habit the moment you became a burden. And as dramatic as it might sound, there was a part of you that knew that your heart might never fully recover something like that. Not with him.
Things are quiet for a while. And then Andy settles on the bed next to you before pulling you flush against him. The two of you are so close that you're practically half sprawled on his big lap, your bottom resting atop his thickly muscled thighs.
"Then please allow me to rephrase. It's not just my job to take care of you, it's my privilege, baby girl."
A sniffle escapes you before you can catch it.
"You're a strong woman. Strong enough to reach out when you need me. The same way it takes a strong man to lean on his woman. Understand?"
You nod, closing your eyes as you do.
"Look at me and say the words, Y/N." Your Big Man implores you before kissing the top of your head and burying his face in your curls. "I need to hear 'em, please."
It takes you a couple of seconds, but eventually you muster up enough courage to do as he asks.
"Yes, I - I understand. It takes a strong woman to, um, to lean on her man."
"Good girl."
"And please believe me when I say that your trusting me with your problems doesn't make you a burden. Not now, not ever. We're partners, baby."
For now and forever. Andy thinks to himself. It's clear as day to me, I just need her to see it too.
"Yes, we are, my sweet Andy Bear. I'm sorry for being such a neurotic mess sometimes. I know you must think you're dating a lunatic but -"
"Yep, I am." He sweetly interrupts. "But you've also claimed a crazy, possessive bastard as your man. So, I'd say we're pretty even." You feel another brush of his lips against your skin, this time on your temple.
The two of you sit there for a while in silence, simply enjoying each other's warmth. Truthfully, it wasn't that cold in your apartment, but according to the forecast, that would change over night. You needed to be some place with working heat and a comfortable bed.
And your Andy Bear came with all of that, complete with sheets and pillows that smelled just like him. Of course you'd find a way to pay him back. Maybe you'd cook him a big dinner, or buy him season tickets to the Patriots, or --
Your thought stream is interrupted by the sound of Andy's gruff voice.
"I think we need to do something to quiet that beautiful mind of yours, don't we?" He purrs, before lavishing the column of your throat with a hot, open-mouthed kiss.
And then you feel one large, slightly calloused hand go to rest on your chest. Using just a fraction of his strength, he gently forces you onto your back. A shiver courses through you as he runs his palms down the length of your body in an act of raw, unbridled possession.
Lifting your ass, you allow him to remove your black leggings. He makes sure to take his time, dragging the thin material across your heated skin with agonizing slowness.
A breathy moan escapes your lips when he parts your thighs, baring your panty-covered pussy to his predatory gaze.
"I'd like to rephrase my earlier statement one more time if I could."
Without warning, Andy leans in and buries his face between your legs. He takes a moment to inhale your scent before nuzzling your swollen clit through the damp fabric.
"Oh-oh-kaaay." You whimper as he briefly sucks the sensitive bud into his warm, waiting mouth. "
"It's my job, my pleasure, and my privilege to keep my lady's sweet body warm and her greedy cunt stuffed full. And I'm a man who believes in honoring his fucking commitments."
You cry out when he rips the lace from your body, leaving you naked and vulnerable from the waist down.
"This is mine, baby. All mine. Now, lie back like a good girl and let me show you just how much I enjoy caring for my woman, starting with eating the fuck out of her pretty little pussy."

Dreams and Daemons
Chapter 2: Nami, Usopp, Robin Fandom: One Piece Summary: Introduction of Kaito, Iso and Rodney. Words: 1 675 Prologue - Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4
Tumblr media
Nami - KAITO, Eurasian Magpie
“Expressive, Perceptive, Flamboyant. Magpie people tend to be creative, curious, true to their natures, gregarious, and energetic. They are free spirits who enjoy being in the thick of things and as such, tend to get a reputation for the dramatic. They are good at taking joy in the unpredictable aspects of life, making opportunities out of any circumstances. They see things more clearly, look past illusions and see through falsities. But they are also playful, social, communicative, and confident. Magpie people are full of intelligence and cunning, but are more light-hearted than its other corvid cousins the crow and the raven.”         - “Dæmons Unveiled: Navigating the Bonds of this World”, Filipe Haulman
Kaito was the only one Nami could trust for a very long time. He was the only one who saw her tears in the darkness and understood her. He worked with her in both light and darkness, standing by her side, always helping her in her work to earn money for their village. He stole from people’s pockets and acted as her eyes in the sky whenever she needed it. When she felt insecure, he helped her see more clearly and understand what sort of people she met on her travels. He always warned her when he felt someone was too dangerous for them; she could always trust his word. The first time he sounded uncertain about someone was when they met Luffy. “What do you mean?” she hissed at him while they were hiding on the nearby roof, watching the strange boy who had literally fallen down from the sky. “I don’t know Nami”, Kaito whined in her ear. “They just … they feel good.” “Good?” Nami hissed back disbelievingly. They had never met someone who just felt good. Everyone had an ulterior motive, that’s what she had learned through harsh lessons on the sea. She mistrusted Luffy even more when she realized that he was a pirate. No pirate was ever “good”, no matter what Kaito felt about them. But in the end, on their home island when she cried and tried to chase Luffy away, he stayed. She was lost, didn’t have anyone left. She looked to Kaito, who stood in front of her, and saw the answer in his eyes. A final string of hope was dangling in front of her, and Kaito nodded at her, daring her to take the final leap, to trust someone else. It felt both terrifying and relieving to share her burden with someone else. But finally, she dared to ask someone to help her.
And in the end, she had to admit that Kaito was right about them.
Now Kaito loved flying high above their ship, enjoying the wind. Looking far across the blue seas she could hear his reports about what he saw and his laughter at the crew’s antics. She could never stop herself from laughing as well when she heard him, even when she was mad at Luffy for doing something idiotic. Her heart soared as high as Kaito did when she heard him being so happy and free.
Usopp - ISO, European Hare
“Self-sacrifice, humility, family. Rabbit people tend to be soft-spoken and non-self-assertive. The symbol of the rabbit is strongly tied to the cycle of life, fertility, death, and resurrection. The rabbit is also a symbol of luck, health, and clear-sightedness. In the wild, Rabbits are terrific planners and escape artists. In other words, the Rabbit Spirit’s mantra is, “Look before you leap” and keep one foot in reality. Rabbit people live life spontaneously, and are the life of a party. They also afford quick wittedness and creative problem solving. The rabbit energy challenges their reflexes and hones dexterity spiritually and physically.” - “Dæmons Unveiled: Navigating the Bonds of this World”, Filipe Haulman
“Ahaha, don’t worry Iso!” Usopp bragged loudly to his daemon, Iso. “They will be joyous to greet us again! How can’t they not be, to have the great warrior Usopp with them again!” One of Iso’s long ears tilted down to the side as she watched her human pacing back and forth on the beach of Water 7, talking out loud and practicing his speech for returning to the straw hat crew. “I will even offer to be the vice-captain!” He quickly turned to Iso in excitement as another idea clearly hit him. “Iso! You should turn into a white horse!” he told her excitedly. “Imagine us riding in all glory, surely they will just fall on their knees and beg us to return!” “… No”, Iso said softly. “Huh?” Usopp blinked, stunned, a flash of confused anger crossing his face. “What do you mean no? Isn’t that a great idea?” Iso hadn’t found her final form, still able to change into different animals. Some people called them immature for that but they mostly ignored them, telling themselves that it was funnier this way anyway. But now she had an uncomfortable feeling in her gut; it didn’t feel right. It bothered her as much as seeing Usopp like this; she could feel him through their bonds. Beneath all that anger and pride, she could sense his shame and fear… When Iso didn’t answer, he soon shrugged and continued. In the end, they had nearly been too late. Usopp had been shouting after the boat, and Iso feared that the worst was going to happen. “USOPP!” She shouted at him. “They are going to leave!” “Well, well”, he stuttered, “change into something else and we’ll go after them!” “I can’t! I’m stuck like this!” she finally found the words to explain. She saw the horror growing in his eyes as he stared after the ship, their crew, their family. He finally realized that they were going to lose them. It was too late, she thought, and blamed herself as Usopp shouted his apology. Tears streamed down her face as Usopp cried. In the end, she never loved Luffy’s rubber powers more than in that moment. “I’m a coward, huh?” Usopp asked her later, when it was just the two of them. She could hear the insecurity in his words. It was said that the animal the daemon ended up taking mirrored the soul of the human. Iso knew what he meant, but she went up to him and put a paw in his hand. When he looked at her in surprise, she responded with a grin. “No, we are lucky!”
Robin - RODNEY, Domestic cat
“Cat represents a balance of strength in both physical and spiritual, psychic and sensual powers, merging these two worlds into one. They tend to have most energy during the night. Curious, intelligent, and independent, cat people tend to live in a world all their own. They are free ardent adventurers who explore the world as well as their inner space. Their perspectives are unique as they like to explore all the angles. Naturally agile and are able to land on their feet in seemingly impossible situations. However, they need to be careful. […] People with black cats as daemons can be wonderful leaders who rarely lose dignity under pressure. The colour black represents authority, elegance and adaptability. However, they need to be cautioned that they can succumb to the idea that somehow, they are bad luck to those around them, or somehow lesser to them. They need to learn to reach out for help from those they love.”         - “Dæmons Unveiled: Navigating the Bonds of this World”, Filipe Haulman
Robin had to grow up fast with her daemon, Rodney, finding his final form soon after the first time someone betrayed them for easy money. They had been sitting in a dirty alley, and she had looked down at his pitch-black small form of a cat, with green eyes gleaming in the dark, and somehow known. “A cat”, she said with a weak smile. “We will stay in the shadows”, his deep voice hummed deeply inside of her chest. “No one will find us unless we want to.” “You promise?” she asked softly, shivering from the cold as she tried to keep warm. “I promise”, he answered as he went up into her lap, and she could feel the purring from somewhere deep beneath the warmth of his fur. Years later, in Enies Lobby while she waited in chains, she remembered that moment as she thought of the straw hats – “They found us.” “Well”, Rodney hummed, seemingly immediately knowing what she meant. “Maybe we wanted them to find us.” She looked at him in surprise, but he remained silent by her side despite Franky’s curious looks at them. “I don’t want them to come”, she told him angrily. “You sure?” he responded calmly. She didn’t answer. Later she had to admit that he had been right. Like he always was. “How did you know?” she asked him later that night. She couldn’t sleep, still reeling from the day, it had all happened in just one day. “What?” he asked lying on her chest with closed eyes. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to ask. How he knew that they would come? No… How he knew that she wanted them to come? … That she wanted to live after all? All the questions flew around in her head but she didn’t say any of them but looked down on him. One of his eyes glowed in the dark as he looked toward her. “Well... I wanted to”, he admitted, sounding a little abashed. She blinked in confusion. “I wanted you to live”, he purred. And they were one. She remembered reading about daemons and how they were supposed to be two parts of one soul. That the dreams and will were flowing freely in the bonds between the human and the daemon. As long Rodney was there, and wanting for her … did that mean she never lost that flame of hope in the first place? That it was always there, kept safe by Rodney? Her eyes suddenly burned. “Thank you”, she whispered. He responded by simply purring.
Notes: I choose a magpie for Nami because it was perfect for a thief to have an animal that loves shiny things to steal. The name Kaito means "sea, ocean" and "soar, fly". Usopp got the hare, at first I thought of an animal that was kind of famous for being a coward and/or running away. But when I read about the symbolism behind it I felt the first part was fitting as well, he matured that day and his daemon is a symbol of his lesson in humility. The name Iso is said to mean "beach, seashore". Robin's daemon was a black cat from almost the start. It feel very fitting for her. I gave him the name Rodney because it's close to Robin, some people tend to give their children's daemon a name as close to the child's.

I don't have a super fleshed or plot for him unfortunately but!! Rod is a single dad who loves his daughter more than anything. His mutation was an insecurity of his for a while, but once he enrolled his daughter into Professor X's School for Gifted Youngsters and began teaching there himself, he learned to accept himself. maid's worst nightmare - pt 26
Tumblr media
okay if any of y'all know what this gif is from i'll be surprised. it's... er, i guess a hint 😅 anyway, second part of the not so date, still bowser's POV!
previous chapters
@sovereign-of-succ
"What draws you to Princess Peach?"
Bowser blinked in surprise. For some reason, he hadn't expected that question, and it was throwing him for a loop. He frowned down at his wine as he mulled it over.
Why did he like Peach?
"Well, she's pretty," he started, although that felt very obvious. Everyone knew that. You nodded politely, though, encouraging him to go on. "Um… she's never been afraid to speak her mind to me. I like that." He drummed his claws on the table. Damn, this was harder than he thought; he'd never really stopped to consider this.
When he failed to continue, you piped up again, "Do you like that she's relatively independent?"
He nodded. "Yeah. She don't really need someone beside her.. but I guess I kinda wish she'd let me be there anyway."
His eyes flicked up to your face as something began to stir in his mind. With the exception of Rodney, you'd been fairly feisty with him even when you first arrived, so he could probably assume that in normal circumstances you didn't really need anyone… yet you'd let him in.
"And is she actually a nice person? You kept teasing how she might not rescue me," you mused, glancing at him before looking down again. "Plus with what I've heard from you and Wendy…"
Bowser sighed, then smiled just a bit. "Okay… look. Peach is a sweet lady. Part of why I like her. She takes care of her people as best she can - they come first. She ain't too keen on me and my kids 'cause we kidnapped her so many times, but she never been rude or anything to 'em. More like a no-nonsense teacher, or somethin'. Don't let me or my kids' views of her skew yours - she's a good woman."
You nodded slowly, clearly digesting the information. He hadn't realized you were so insecure about the type of woman she was, or else he might not have been so insistent on Peach not coming to get you somehow.
After a few moments, you nodded again and looked at him. He was a little relieved to see some fire in your eyes.
"Okay, different question," you stated. He hummed and took a bite of food to give you time to ask. "Given my terror last night, where do you expect me to–"
"With me," he grunted flatly around his bite.
You flushed, dropping your gaze to your meal. A smug smirk slowly began to tug at his lips as his confidence started to return… again. Hopefully for good this time. He let the silence linger as he watched you shift in your chair.
"Just tonight, or–?"
"Until ya leave."
The smirk threatened to expose his fangs as he watched you wrestle with his new demand. He knew it was one thing to be with him because of a terror, but it was a totally different thing entirely to just demand you slept with him - but he wasn't quite willing to give up the sweet snuggles just yet.
Peasley was due to leave tomorrow, and once he did, Bowser expected a call from Peach to discuss the terms of your release a few days after that. If she would give him her number you probably wouldn't have had to wait so long, but then, you also wouldn't have been able to give him a chance like you were.
"...Which will be when, again?" you mumbled.
He wasn't sure he wanted you to leave.
"Soon as I negotiate with Peach. Should be in a few days, but 'til then I reserve the right to as many cuddles as I want," he stated firmly, not wanting to leave any room for argument.
You covered your mouth, but he could see how the corners of your eyes crinkled a bit from a smile. Fuck, that shouldn't make his heart pound like it did.
"Well, who am I to go against a king's wishes?" You sighed dramatically.
"That's - yeah, exactly," he huffed quietly. "I'm the king, so you gotta do what I say…" His eyes narrowed. "Hang on. Ya don't seem very embarrassed."
"I'm not the one that tried to escape through a wall just because of a little makeup," you smiled sweetly at him.
Bowser chuffed indignantly - why was that still making him feel so embarrassed?! He should be over it by now, damn it! You giggled softly and immediately his face heated up; there was no reason for you to be so cute and endearing! It almost wasn't fair!
"You ever gonna let me live that down? I was surprised, okay?" He waved a hand to dismiss the topic.
You giggled again. "Whatever you say, big man," you chimed, finishing up your wine.
Big man. The nickname shot straight through him and into his heart - it meant you were comfortable with him. More than that, actually, it meant you liked him. You liked him. It wasn't one of those silly titles he found so amusing, but an actual nickname.
Well, so was 'Bows,' but that was less personal to him since Kamek called him that sometimes. And… so did Peach…
He couldn't let himself get flustered over every little thing though. He had to power through.
"Big man?" he repeated dumbly.
Fuck.
You grinned at him and he thought his heart was going to rip out of his chest. His mind (and emotions) felt like a green shell, bouncing around off of every little thing, with every smile and laugh and trusting look from you acting as another kick to it.
"Yeah, big man," you chuckled.
Maybe if he made an inappropriate joke–
"I like it." Damn it. You made him so stupid!
"Good, because it's not going away. Now, I should probably go see what your sons want from me, and then I'll be back and you can embarrass the shit outta me, hm?" You reached across the table and gently patted his hand.
His eyes flicked down at your comment; fuck, both of you were finished eating. There was more wine, but…
"I'll be sure to keep the wine cool," he replied, mentally kicking himself because for some reason that line came out smooth and easy.
You stood and turned for the door, but you paused, and he sat up a little straighter when you instead turned and stepped over to him. He didn't get a chance to ask what you wanted before suddenly your hands came up under his chin, soft and gentle as ever.
"I can't believe I almost forgot an important part of a date," you said seriously; for once, you were intently keeping eye contact, making sure he was watching you, but the chain chomp definitely had his tongue.
All he could manage was a quiet hum of curiosity as he stared at you with wide eyes, his heart pounding in his chest.
You giggled shyly and, in front of his very eyes, of your own volition, you pressed a kiss to his nose. He stopped breathing entirely; although it felt like it lingered, it couldn't have been more than a second or so before you were booking it out of the room with a deep blush.
"Thanks for lunch, see you later!" you called over your shoulder as the door closed behind you.
Bowser was left by himself, staring after you in shock as his mind struggled to process what had just happened. One of his hands came up and hovered over his nose where you kissed him.
You kissed him, without him making a demand. You intentionally did that of your own accord. You chose to do that. And you'd called it a date. But he was too stunned to even try to think why you did that.
After a few solid minutes, his mind clicked back to life, but there was only one thought that would repeat itself over and over again:
He was in love. He was in love, he was in love, he was in love he was in love he was in lo–

So I thought you would like to know that I have started watching the entire Stargate franchise from the beginning.
I watched the movie, then started on SG-1.
I'm currently on season 5, watching the episode where McKay is sent it to help Carter figure out how to get Teal'c out of the stargate.
Now I understand the loathing I'd read from some people about him. He is a total ass in this episode.
I mean he's arrogant in Atlantis, but his social insecurities made him more relatable, especially after encountering his own mortality and his alternate from another reality.
In this episode, he's just the cliche of an arrogant, misogonistic jerk.
Okay, I have to admit I haven't watched all of Stargate SG-1. I'm more of an Atlantis fan. I've seen all of seasons 9 & 10 (I got interested by seeing Ben Browder and Claudia Black from Farscape). I've seen bits and pieces of the rest. I have not seen Rodney's first episode. I've heard that he's awful, though.
My problem with Rodney on Atlantis is that I think they overused him. How many character centric episodes did he have? My second problem was that his character progress was always wiped out by the end of the episode.
All that said, I do love Rodney. He's my third favorite, after Elizabeth and John.

fuck my coworker. he loves to be as irritating as possible to people. he's a button-pusher, and while there isn't anything inherently wrong about teasing people, he never realizes or cares when someone isn't in the mood or doesn't feel comfortable with him like that. he found out i'm insecure about my height and now he takes every opportunity to call me short.
worse than that, yesterday i mentioned i have a girlfriend and that we've been dating for six years. he started going OFF about how i should propose. "why haven't you gotten married yet? i married my girl at 18 and i'm super happy. you can't be afraid of commitment, you're past that point. just do it, what's the harm?" and on and on and on. beyond the fact that it's MY relationship, not his, it made me extremely uncomfortable and self conscious and made me doubt if i'm being good enough to my girlfriend. it took me yelling at him on the verge of tears for him to shut up. and he hasn't apologized in any way. i'm so glad he's quitting soon, i don't know how i can even face him going forward.

✅ for the ask meme
🦞⭐🎂 for WIP Wednesday
✅ What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to?
HMMM. Insecurity and struggles with vulnerability, excessively long sentences, bad jokes
🦞 reminds me of the moon card in the RWS tarot, so, thematically, we’ve got the unknown, the uncontrolled, the shadow; in Live Oak 5, we’ve got Rodney Noticing John and not understanding at all what he’s doing:
He's wandering around, with his Top Gun jacket and his surely-non-regulation hair, looking some mixture between curious and befuddled, but he obligingly allows Rodney to herd him towards a corner near some equipment crates, one of which he leans on like he's striking a pose, like someone with a camera will pop out any moment.
⭐ a line I like, from Mark on You:
“You can’t say anything of value about wormhole physics without citing McKay et al. and these, these children think they can just talk back to me? I’m McKay et al!!”
🎂 Celebratory: I have been thinking (much too far ahead, as I'm sometimes wont to do), that when I finish Live Oak, With McShep, maybe I will commission one of those people who does fanfic bookbinding to bind it for me, maybe along with prints of the original Whitman manuscripts for each poem. This would surely be a most pretentious way to top off my most pretentious ever project!

K for the ask game!
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
beautiful question thank you for asking. my favourite character development arc both in this fandom and of all time is rodney mckay. the thing i love about his character is it is so realistic. he makes such huge changes in his personality in some aspects but he still has a ton of flaws and shitty bad habits that he struggles to break. we see this really well in tao of rodney, specifically in the scene where he's talking to radek. rodney mckay is a very hurt man who has learned the best way to protect himself from pain is to be an angry asshole, and throughout the show we get to see him learn to challenge his own insecurities and flaws and actually work to overcome it. he doesn't magically change over night, he doesn't have one big revolution and suddenly become a completely different person. he makes an effort and fails sometimes (a lot) and keeps trying despite not being perfect (which is especially big considering what a perfectionist rodney is as a character) i just. i really love rodney mckay lmao

It's currently 2:30 in the morning and I have a very important question for my favorite favorite bobs burger blog...
Any mickey headcannons? 🙃
THANK YOU FOR ASKING SORRY IM SO LATE ANSWERING THIS LOL i was very busy and didn't have time to write anything <\3 mickey is so funny i love his character sm
his parents were both kinda terrible people and criminals so he was involved with that stuff from a young age, he really isn't a bad person but he never had a choice so he just kinda fell into that lifestyle but bob and linda definitely helped him find something better he could do with his life even if it wasnt long-term, he liked doing actual honest work for a change :)
he likes living at the trailer park with all the other carnies and working with them at wonder wharf bcuz they're all also criminals and he doesn't feel insecure or like theyre judging him/think theyre better than him, he feels like society looks down on him most of the time and he usually takes it in stride but it does hurt sometimes
related to that he LOVES louise gene and tina so genuinely, he loves that they don't judge him and that they like spending time with him and think he's fun and he kinda considers them the nieces he never had, louise probably convinced him to come to her school for career day once and she got in trouble with mr frond bcuz apparently bankrobbing isnt a "real career" (she disagrees) but mr frond talks to him and he agrees to come back and give the kids a scared straight assembly where he talks abt being a criminal and prison and how much it sucks
he's bisexual This isn't relevant to anything just my understanding of his character. he had a friends with benefits kinda relationship with rodney before he went to prison but they were never officially dating
just like with the one-eyed snakes louise very consistently threatens ppl by saying she's friends with an actual criminal who robbed a bank at gunpoint and he'll kill them if she asks him to, mickey would not kill anyone or hurt a child but if somebody is being a bully he'll agree to pretend to threaten them and basically act like a super edgy criminal to scare them (he's a terrible actor tbh)
^^ mickey was bullied when he was a kid bcuz of his generally anxious pathetic vibes so he will always stand up to the kids bullies, its like a personal thing for him he wants to be the person that he wishes he had for the kids
most of the people who live in the carnie trailer park don't have any actual family or loved ones in their lives so they celebrate holidays like christmas and thanksgiving together :) mickey joins them sometimes but he has also been invited to spend christmas thanksgiving etc etc with the belcher family and he always accepts, bob also offered to cook dinner for the entire trailer park one thanksgiving it was SO GOOD and the first homemade meal a lot of them ever had, bcuz of that he has at least 50 hardened criminals ready to fight and die for him (and also mickey <3)
mickey sneaks the kids free cotton candy and prizes whenever they go to wonder wharf when he's working also sometimes tickets for the rides, he is trying to be a better person but in his opinion there's nothing morally wrong with giving kids free candy bcuz the fischoeders are so rich and he loves the kids a lot he's like their cool fun uncle (one of many!!!!!)

maybe this already goes without saying, but re: repurposing americana symbols or narratives for propagandizing purposes in the US (like the statue of liberty or the 1776 ""revolution""), my indigenous comrades and i are always saying that this debate doesn't even matter because indigenous politics are way more powerful and resonate with more people than you would expect. this is precisely because indigenous politics in the US deals directly with material reality (because it is a settler-colonial state), rather than appealing to some kind of aspirational US mythology that no one other than the most rabid fascists or liberals have a particular affection for. i have an anglo friend who sorta self-IDs as libertarian, and i've been talking with him about communism and indigenous politics for several months now. a couple weeks ago he surprised me when he said "i suppose the insecurity of american identity makes total sense, when you consider the twin pillars of african slavery and indigenous genocide in its development". he hasn't read a lick of sakai or fanon or indigenous-written US history or anything, but he came to an intuitive understanding of that through me grounding my points and analysis in my indigeneity (which is something even a lot of self- IDed communists in the US and canada struggle with, if they don't outright deny or downplay it). this isn't my only example of this ofc, just the most recent one, but people don't want aspirational pretty symbols - they want a real, tangible understanding of things.
this site has a great marxist presence (esp one that leans away from cisheteropatriarchal dogma which ime has been inescapable on other sites like twitter), but i've been disappointed at times seeing widespread shortcomings in analysis that arise from a lack of engagement with indigenous worlds (like the statement that "all of humanity" became sedentary and abandoned constant movement of its settlements, and that this represents a "higher" state of development). not that i see people genuinely suggesting using things like the statue of liberty or what have u, just an entrypoint to the wider conversation i wanted to bring up that i think people don't apply indigenous analyses enough. marx is great but there is an urgent need for all of us in the US/canada to REALLY truthfully apply like, indigenous intellectualism and politics instead of just paying lip service and boosting our calls to action, even if they are not nominally marxist (something walter rodney gets at in his book decolonial marxism btw!)

Hey!
I've got a question for you if you could've had any storylines on qaf for the characters that we didn't get what would you pick?
My choices would be
Deep dive into Brian's addiction issues
More exploration of Justin and his art, showing him at college and the process. The consequences on himself post his trauma affecting his dream career choice. Seeing him make actual proper art instead of fleeting shots here and there
Emmett getting to have either a family member/or friend from his past introduced I'm sure he was the only one who never got one which is a hate crime
Keeping Michael's friend from Season 1 around a bit longer counteracting Brian's all straight people are evil narrative, especially after she came around after Brian outed Michael and was a good friend to him. It would've been funny to see how Brian would've coped with him having a straight female friend hanging around plus showing not to judge all people the same there are ones who are willing to learn and be allies.
What a great ask!! Thank you!
JUSTIN AND MOLLY JUSTIN AND MOLLY JUSTIN AND MOLLY--
Ahem. First of all, honestly, I love all your suggestions.
The idea of Tracy continuing to pop up post season 3 is great, and I'd have liked to see more of her friendship with Michael. Emmett’s family situation being explored also had potential (like, my assumption is that they’re all dead or he’s estranged, but it’d be interesting to explore that). I would also have loved the idea of Brian’s addiction issues being addressed—Ted’s arc, and Blake's, explored addiction well, so you don't need to tumble Brian down a spiral so much as you could have increased the foiling between them to give Brian a bit of a challenge/wake up call.
As for Justin’s art--yes. 100%. Especially since art is symbolic of his life (like, Justin literally points out he's been drawing practically since birth, because art is his life), I'd have liked to see his career given more focus!
In general, as for what I'd change in addition to yours... well, most changes I would make would be to further flesh some of the already-existing plot lines out because they could have worked far better than they did (such as fleshing out Justin’s PTSD/dealing with PTSD throughout the series, which would make the Pink Posse arc fit much better).
I would also replace the... lesbian cheating and custody battle with a new story that served the same thematic and character purpose, but without the repetitive nature and the icky subtext. I’d build Lindsay towards making a final confrontation of her desire to have the perfect image and Melanie confronting her own insecurities about never being enough for Lindsay through a plot line involving Melanie’s professional life post-pregnancy. I don’t think we got any relatives of Melanie’s either, just like Emmett, actually, so exploring Mel's family is another option. But since Mel's so focused on her career, and her focus is part of the stereotype she turns out to be so much more than, I would have to say fleshing out her career and making that a central part of her arc would be awesome.
Some other ideas:
Deb and Rodney bond more after Vic’s death.
Bring Reverend Tom back at some point. Kinda vague, but I'd have liked this.
But the main one?
FLESH OUT JUSTIN’s SISTER. It’s a crime we only see Molly a handful of times in season 1 and the very start of season 2. A crime, I tell you.
Why? Because Molly so clearly adores Justin. Even when she’s annoying him, she does so by imitating him. He comments that after he’s gone she’ll have “appropriated my coolest stuff” and post-bashing, Craig mentions that Molly gives him updates on Justin’s health and well-being. In other words, Molly loves Justin (unlike Craig), and seeing him bond with her as part of both of them growing up would have been a gift.
You could then explore Molly as Justin’s inner child, especially once she’s a little older and in middle school (seasons 4 and 5) and thereby capable of being her own character. You could also use a plot line of Justin and Molly bonding to further develop Debbie and Vic even, especially if you set it post-Vic’s death. There’s a lot you could do with this to foil Brian and Justin, too, as all major plot lines and relationships tended to do (because their love story embodied each and every central theme).
Like, Justin mimics Brian at times, especially when he is more immature, but grows to love him and be loved as his own self. Molly mimics Justin. Even though clearly a brother/sister relationship isn't the same as romance, love is still a tie between them. Justin choosing to appreciate Molly's imitation as the admiration it is, while encouraging her to be her own person... like Brian did for him.
You could also have Molly and Justin foil Brian and Claire. Molly is about the same age as Claire’s kids, too, so you could even have them meet at school or whatever and have a conflict there and Justin give her advice and support. Not gonna lie, I'd also have loved to see Jennifer learn a little more about Brian's family, if only to see her rage.
There’s so much potential for Molly and Justin's relationship benefitting the series as a whole, and I’d have loved to see it delved into.
