Teamwork
Natasha Romanoff x Female Reader
The Avengers, Natasha’s family, and you and the kids watch your youngest daughter play soccer. Natasha coaches the team with a little extra motivation coming from the spectators when the team is struggling
Note: This is soft soft soft. Featuring a lot of the Avengers and Nat’s family. Enjoy!
Natasha Romanoff Masterlist 1, Natasha Romanoff Masterlist 2, Main Masterlist
Natasha stands on the opposite side of the field from you as she tries to coax three and four year olds into playing soccer.
“You’ve got to run, Taylor! Come on! You got this!” Natasha tries to encourage your daughter. She puts her hand on her shoulder to get her attention.
She’s the most uninterested of any other kid out there. You try not to laugh at the way she just keeps getting distracted by her surroundings.
“Let’s go team!” You cheer from the sidelines. The other parents clap along with you, trying to encourage their kids.
“Taylor, kick the ball!” Your youngest son shouts to her. Soccer is his sport, so it kills him to see all of the kids just running aimlessly.
“The ball didn’t do anything to me!” Taylor yells back.
You have to giggle at her words. Everyone who is watching, including the Avengers and Natasha’s family, die laughing at her words.
“I think you’ve got quite the debater on your hands, y/n,” Yelena says from next to you.
“She’s just genuinely too nice to play sports,” you say, shrugging. Sure, you love sports and wish she did too but they aren’t for everyone.
At halftime, the other team is demolishing Taylor’s team. Natasha, who stepped in as coach while the actual coach is out of town, calls in the Avengers to give a pep talk to the team.
“Alright, little ones,” Steve addresses them. “What we have to do here is continue to play as a team. You’re all doing great at that. Keep it up.”
“Yeah, you’re really working together out there,” Thor agrees. “Excellent work!”
“Oh forget that. Rogers and Thor here have gone soft,” Tony pipes in. “Five dollars to everyone who scores this half!”
“Make it twenty, Mr. Iron Man, sir,” one of the little boys argues.
“Hm, you drive a hard bargain,” Tony ponders the deal.
“Twenty, Unkie Tones,” Taylor pipes in. She looks up at him with sweet eyes. He can’t say no to her.
“Alright, twenty bucks. Let’s do this!” Tony says, clapping his hands.
Natasha sighs at the boys’ antics. She should’ve known.
“We can do this, team. I believe in all of you, okay? Team on three,” Natasha says.
All of the kids cheer on three. They don’t necessarily say team but Nat just smiles. The second half goes much better. It seems money is a motivator for the kids.
Even Taylor is more into it. She is running for a goal, so everyone cheers for her.
“Go Taylor!” You say. She turns and looks at you with a smile on her face. “No, no, keep running! Don’t stop!”
“Oh,” she giggles to herself. “Okay.”
She ends up successfully scoring a goal. Her team cheers for her so does the sidelines. Her first goal of the season and everyone who loves her got to see it.
“Otlichnaya rabota! Well done, Taylor!” Nat says as she lifts her in a hug. She kisses her cheeks softly. Taylor preens at the attention, snuggling into her mama.
The kids finish the game and end up still losing pretty badly, but they had so much fun. Nat gives them a final pep talk once the game is over and directs them to another parent that has snacks for them.
“Nice job, coach,” you tell her once she approaches the spectators.
“That was stressful,” she says. “But also fun.”
You wrap her into a hug. She gladly reciprocates. A crowd of kids who scored gather around Tony. He realizes he’ll have to pay up.
Taylor is the last one to make her way to him. She was no doubt taking her time eating her snack and drinking her juice box.
“Saved the best for last,” Tony says, getting a final twenty from his wallet.
“Tony, you don’t have to pay her,” Natasha hops in.
“No, no. A deal is a deal, right underoo?” Tony kneels in front of Taylor.
“A deal is a deal, Mama,” Taylor agrees.
Natasha chuckles. Tony hands Taylor the twenty dollar bill and she gasps. To her, it’s so much money. She gives Tony a hug and runs to Wanda, her current favorite aunt, to show her the money.
“Where was Uncle Tony when I made my hat trick last season?” Your son Jack wonders aloud. You laugh and give him a soft smile.
“Alright, let’s go home family,” you say. All of the Avengers look at you too. “How about lunch at the compound?”
“Now we’re talking!” Thor shouts. Always a loud one, that man.
“Works for me, babe,” Nat agrees. “Melina, Alexei, Yelena?”
“We’re in,” Melina answers for the group.
“Okay. Let’s all go home then,” you say this time.
The group all file into cars and drive to the compound. You have a nice cookout and enjoy each other’s company.
It’s truly the best family in the world. Days like this these days are rare, but you’re always so grateful for them.

Jump Then Fall (The 4 times everyone else thinks you’re Quinn’s romantic partner and the 1 time you actually are)
Tumblr media
(Gif credit to @gabelandeskog)
Word count: 5,045
Genres: strangers to friends to lovers
Warnings: none
A/N: I’ve had this specific idea in my mind for about 2 years but never wrote it out because I decided to write other things first and took certain things from this concept and kinda put it into my other stories but after Quinn was named captain in September 2023, I decided to write it out. (Speaking of my other stories, I did write a Quinn fic in 2022, which you should check out). The title and this story is based off of the song, Jump Then Fall by Taylor Swift. It’s set from this past week (October 7th-14th), with additional fictional elements added. (Yes, I decided to publish it on Quinn's birthday because why not?) It’s written with a female reader in mind because I’m a female of color but the reader doesn’t specifically have to be a POC or a woman and there’s little dialogue. As always, I’m open to any and all feedback, comments or questions; just put them in my inbox or dm me. Thank you so much in advance for reading, I appreciate it😌
(P.S. I have other stories (linked here) that I have written for other players as well if you want to check it out)
“I was enchanted to meet you” -Enchanted by Taylor Swift
Prologue
Losing in a fantasy sports league can come with many different types of punishment, whether it’s being forced to eat a pancake for every wrong player you picked or putting in extra money in the winning jackpot. Your punishment for losing in the fantasy sports league you participated in was wearing a very 2014 Tumblr-esque “lol ur not Quinn Hughes” shirt that your best friend got you as a gag gift for Christmas to a Canucks game. This punishment came at a convenient time when you already planned to be in Vancouver for a work conference. Accepting your fate, you proudly donned the cringey t-shirt at the game, and as expected, people did look at you weirdly. What you didn’t plan at all was that your game seats happened to be located next to where a group of some of the Canucks WAGs were sitting. Lenasia, Ethan Bear’s fiance, noticed your shirt and immediately began talking to you. You explained to her why you were wearing such a thing and that clicked an idea in her brain. Lenasia turned away, began talking again to the other WAGs she was with, and was also frantically texting someone. After a brief period, Lenasia faced back towards you and told you to wait after the game because she had a surprise for you. You had a slight inkling of what that surprise was but silently hoped that it didn’t actually come true.
After the game was completed, Lenasia led you through the tunnels of Rogers Arena and told security that you were with her. It felt weird to hear her say that, considering that you just met her a few hours ago. You stood together outside of the Canucks locker room and the feeling of embarrassment continued to rise within you as the guys filed out, some of them laughed at your shirt and then, you saw him. Quinn was right there, less than 10 feet away from you. Your suspicions were right; you would have just settled for a signed item from him and have no interaction with him but you were actually going to meet him right now. You felt like you were going to pass out but tried your best to maintain your composure. Lenasia introduced you to Quinn and told him the same story of why you were wearing a shirt with his name on it. Quinn didn’t fully quite understand why the shirt was such a big deal but agreed to take the photo with you. He was nice enough to wrap his arm around you with a side hug and being that close together oddly felt natural and comfortable for two people who had just met for the first time. After the photo was finished being taken, Quinn kindly offered to sign your shirt so he inked his signature on your right shoulder. You thanked Quinn and Lenasia again for everything and left to return to your hotel. It was a lot to process but you were rightfully shocked that you started your night fulfilling some silly punishment and ended it by meeting the person whose name is on your shirt.
The following day, you sent the photo of you and Quinn from the night before to your friends and your friends joked in the groupchat that if you played your cards right, you might be next in line to date him. Yes, you posted about it on Instagram and tagged Quinn so everyone knew you actually met him. Since the day after you met was an off day, Quinn had some time to scroll through Instagram and he saw your post. Seeing your post led him to see all of your posts and eventually, he ended up in your DMs.
Do you always look that cute wearing someone’s name?, an Instagram message from a very familiar verified account read. You couldn’t believe it and thought you were somehow dreaming when you read Quinn’s message but it was very much real. You replied back: I guess I always do but I only wear the names of attractive guys and considering this is my only piece that has an athlete’s name, I guess you should consider yourself lucky ;) It felt odd to shamelessly flirt with a famous athlete (considering that most of them wouldn’t give you the time of day anyway) but it wasn’t like you were actually going to date him or be his friend anyway (or so you had thought).
The flirty interaction eventually led to the exchange of numbers and to a long message chain between the two of you that would extend on for months. You did return home from your trip to Vancouver and maintained a long-distance friendship with Quinn. Your friendship with Quinn was great; you trusted each other, shared some secrets, did virtual movie nights together sometimes, sent memes back and forth, told some of your closest friends and family about the other, and communicated on the phone constantly. Once of your favorite things to do with Quinn was that he would always call you during your morning commute to work and on his commute home after his games to decompress after the game. Since you didn’t live in an area where there was an NHL team, your options for seeing Quinn again in person were limited and you weren’t sure if you were going to ever see him again. It felt weird to ask about seeing each other in real life so everything was just kept online until one day, the timing was right to move things offline.
————————————————————
About a year into your friendship, the right opportunity opened up for you to return to Vancouver to see Quinn again. To the delight of many, Quinn was named Captain of the Canucks and he invited you out to his first game as Captain. You were important enough to him that Quinn wanted you to be there to celebrate that amazing accomplishment; you were surprised by the invitation but excited at the prospect of seeing him again. You used some of your remaining vacation time and paid for your plane ticket to and from Vancouver; Quinn wanted to pay for something so he placed you to stay in the nicest hotel that Vancouver has to offer. You were thrilled to spend a week in Vancouver and hopefully make some fun memories with Quinn while you were there.
Your anticipation for seeing him was slightly halted when Quinn revealed that he couldn’t pick you up from the airport because your flight arrived at the same time that he had captain responsibilities to fulfill in the community so you and Quinn agreed to meet to have dinner later on that evening. Emma, Anthony Beauvillier’s girlfriend, picked you up from the airport to take you to the hotel; you had never met or interacted with Emma before but you appreciated her kind favor. The drive from Vancouver International Airport to the hotel (which Quinn did not tell you beforehand because he wanted it to be a surprise) was normally a 30-minute drive, which turned into an hour drive due to traffic. While you and Emma waited in the rush hour traffic, you talked and learned more about her, her relationship with Anthony, what things are like in Quebec, and what it’s like to be a hockey WAG. Emma had a lot of questions about your relationship with Quinn and was curious as to why you, his romantic partner, weren’t around as much before. You corrected Emma by telling her that you and Quinn were just friends and nothing more and you came to support him as your friend.
“Are you sure you and Quinn are just friends because he must really like you a lot to pay for you to stay here?”, Emma asked as you pulled up to the Fairmount Waterfront hotel.
You replied yes, you were just his friend and she handed you over your room keys that were passed to her through the chain of command. You thanked Emma for giving you a ride and you both mentioned wanting to hang out with each other again.
Quinn was not kidding when he told you that you would be staying at the best hotel in Vancouver; your room had spectacular views of the Vancouver Harbor and was very fancy. As you got ready for your dinner with Quinn, you began to reflect on your conversation with Emma about him. You could admit that he was endearingly handsome and had qualities that you were looking for in a boyfriend but you and Quinn never really discussed romantic pursuits and outside of that initial flirty exchange when you first started talking to each other and the occasional compliment, there wasn’t much flirting really going on between you. You had always assumed that Quinn had someone, whether it was someone in Vancouver or in Michigan, waiting in the wings for him. Your thoughts were interrupted when you got a text from Quinn that he was coming up to the room. It was happening; for the first time in over a year, you got to see your internet best friend in person and you were ecstatic. Although he had a copy of the hotel room key, Quinn knocked on your hotel room door and a smile beamed across both of your faces as you recognized who was standing at the doorway. Quinn engulfed you in a long-awaited hug and you rocked back and forth. There were many areas in his life that made him feel delighted but hearing you laugh was one of the best sounds to him and holding you in his arms was the greatest feeling.
After separating, you realized that Quinn was dressed for a night in while you were dressed for a night out. The weather app indicated that a storm was rolling in so Quinn dressed to stay in at the hotel, order food, and have a movie night, while you were willing to brave the rain to try some of Vancouver’s cuisine. Quinn thought that you looked nice and wished that he communicated to you that Vancouver storms were no joke and you looking cute in your rain jacket wasn’t going to push him to go out in such weather either. He also really wanted to spend time with you without the distractions that come from him going out in public. You agreed to order in and changed into more comfy clothes while you waited for the food to arrive. Preseason hockey was over so Quinn decided to treat himself (and you) to some authentic Chinese food from his favorite place. As you and Quinn indulged on the delicious Chinese food, you began catching up with each other on what had occurred in your lives recently. As Quinn shared what had been going on his life lately, you heard all of the words he was saying but the only thing you were thinking about was how you just wanted to be together and you would lose focus sometimes as he spoke. You and Quinn kept talking so much on so many different topics that it was almost midnight before you decided to watch a movie. You settled on watching Ferris Buller’s Day Off before drifting off to sleep.
————————————————————
For Quinn, it felt surreal to wake up the following morning next to you. After being in contact with you for over a year, here you were, right there, sleeping peacefully on the other side of the bed. Throughout the night, Quinn was respectful of your boundaries and no lines were crossed, everything was kept PG. You were awoken by the sound of water running coming from the bathroom and waited for Quinn to emerge out. After he came out of the bathroom, you discussed the day’s plan (which there wasn’t really one) and decided to go to breakfast at a very special place. Quinn still had some time off before the first game of the season so you had even more extra time to spend with him.
On the car ride to the restaurant, you began to imagine what it would be like to live in Vancouver. Sure, this wasn’t your first time there but you saw it in a different light as you were gazing outside of the car window with Quinn by your side. You arrived at your destination and Quinn got out and kindly came around to open the door for you; it was a sweet gesture that he didn’t have to do.
The restaurant was the same cafe that Quinn and Petey tended to frequent and the wait staff at the restaurant was so familiar with him, down to the point that they knew his exact order: plain buttermilk waffles topped with whipped cream, strawberries, raspberries, and sides of bacon, potatoes, and guacamole. The waitress, an older woman named Louise, reminded you of an endearing grandmother figure; she even put your meal on the house as a treat. After the meal concluded and you were on the way back to Quinn’s car, a fan was waiting right outside of the restaurant for an opportunity to meet the captain of their favorite team. The fan approached you, Quinn’s romantic partner, to take their photo together. You wanted to correct the fan for being wrong but you also could tell that Quinn wanted to get going so you let it be; besides, Quinn didn’t even hear the fan address you as his lover. Quinn later on apologized for the fan encounter but it wasn’t an issue for you, you understood who he was and the things that came with being a famous athlete and you expected something like that might happen while you were together. You continued on the rest of your spontaneous day, being touristy around Vancouver, visiting Gastown, Stanley Park, and Granville Island with the cutest tour guide.
————————————————————
Your time in Vancouver coincided with Canadian Thanksgiving. Dinner is usually held at the team captain’s house and since Quinn is the captain, dinner would be held at his place but since his apartment couldn’t quite hold the entire team, Tyler Myers offered to host dinner at his home. It was exciting to celebrate a holiday together and learn more about each other’s Thanksgiving traditions but it also made you feel a little nervous because you would be meeting more of Quinn’s teammates and spending time with their families. The Canucks team’s Thanksgiving dinner was potluck style and everyone had to bring something so you and Quinn offered to bring a dessert. You decided to make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and Quinn graciously purchased the ingredients for you and let you use his kitchen. Quinn was a good sous chef; he actually enjoyed baking with you and you both had fun together. You even got into a little squabble over who would wash the dishes before agreeing that you would wash them and Quinn would dry them. After the cookies were done, you both got ready for dinner.
On the car ride over to the Myers house, your mind began to wander, contemplating about the domestic moment you shared earlier with Quinn and how you would want more moments like that with him. Quinn felt the same way but wasn’t sure how to verbally tell you that. Before you knew it, you had arrived at your destination. You casually mixed and mingled with the other Canucks players and their families; as expected, some of the players had kids and the kids were curious to know who you were and you explained to them that you were Quinn’s friend. Tristan, Tyler’s son, asked if you were Quinn’s lover friend and you were going to tell him no but you were interrupted by the message that dinner was about to be served so you let it go.
Despite your initial nervousness about the event, dinner actually went well and your cookies were a hit. The other Canucks players and their wives and girlfriends accepted you well into their group; they liked you for you and they liked you with Quinn. Due to the fact he’s their captain, some of the guys pushed Quinn into giving a speech and he expressed his thankfulness and gratitude on such a special holiday; he even looked at you when he mentioned how glad he was to have the people in the room as a part of his life.
During the post-dinner relaxation time, you and Quinn settled into watching the CFL game that was on before Tristan came up to ask the both of you to play hide and seek with him and his sister, Skylar. The football game wasn’t that interesting to either of you so you both agreed to play. Since you were the guest, the kids had you count first.
As you were looking to see where Quinn and the kids were hiding, you observed around the Myers home and began to think about how this was something that you had desired to have one day; a home full of love, laughter, and children. You checked the guest room closet to see if anyone was hiding in there before greeting Quinn by shouting BOO as soon as you opened the door. Instead of stepping out to help you find Skylar and Tristan, Quinn pulled you back into the closet and shut the door for a quiet moment alone. Quinn’s heart was beating super fast, not just because you inflicted fear into him for a brief second, but also because you were close to each other inside the dark closet. You obviously couldn’t see in the darkness but Quinn kept staring at the presumed outline of your mouth because he wanted pull you closer and kiss you so bad. Quinn almost had his chance to ask but was interrupted by the sound of children’s feet pattering on the ground and the door opening. Tristan quickly corrected you that as the counter, you were not allowed to hide until it was your turn to hide. An all-too-familiar chuckle came out of Quinn and you rolled your eyes at him since he was the one who caused you to break the rules before playing another round of hide and seek with the kids.
When it was time to say goodbye, Tristan and Skylar came over to give you a departing hug and Tristan loudly said that he had fun with you, Quinn’s special friend. It warmed your heart to hear his little voice say that to you. Before dropping you off back at the hotel, you had asked Quinn if he was going to stop and get his annual Thanksgiving apple pie slice from the bakery. He had mentioned his Thanksgiving tradition to you only once but it meant a lot to him that you had remembered that. Due to the fact that you made dessert from scratch, Quinn forgot to pick up the pie beforehand to bring to the party and the bakery with the pie that he enjoyed was already closed, but it was okay. Quinn didn’t mind skipping his tradition because he got to make a new memory with you. You and Quinn had such a good time at the Thanksgiving dinner and you had quietly hoped to get the opportunity to spend more holidays together.
————————————————————
The Canucks home opener was finally here. It was both exciting and nerve-wracking for Quinn; he knew that this day was coming but it felt a little more surreal that it was actually here. Quinn’s parents, Ellen and Jim, even flew in to watch their son receive his official captaincy before jetting off to go watch Jack and Luke at the Devils home opener the following day. You felt a bit of deja vu being back at Rogers Arena, since that was the place you and Quinn had met over a year ago, but that deja vu feeling came in a good way. It was fun to watch warmups with the other WAGs and you got to see Emma again. As warmups went on, you held J.T. Miller’s son, Owen, in your arms while Natalie Miller held her daughters, Scarlett and Scottlyn, closer to the glass to give them a better view to see their father on the ice. Since the day was very busy for Quinn, the only time he got to see you was for a brief second during warmups. Quinn’s heart swelled up with joy when he saw you at the glass, holding baby Owen and he also thought you looked so stunning and beautiful in your outfit. He wanted to pass you a puck but instead, he gave you a quick wink and passed a puck to a young fan with a sign and continued to skate around.
Warmups were over and the game was about to start soon so you went up to your seats. Instead of having you sit with the other WAGs, Quinn got you a ticket next to his parents. Of course, Quinn wanted you to meet his parents for the first time in a much more formal way but due to the limited time that you all had in Vancouver, it was slightly more convenient for you to meet his parents while at the game. It was a little awkward at first to meet Quinn’s parents because you were just Quinn’s long-distance friend and meeting the parents is a big deal but Jim and Ellen already knew who you were because you were important enough to their son that he had told them about you. Ellen mentioned to you that she suspected you were dating Quinn because he spoke so highly about you, indicating a possible crush but always shut it down by mentioning that you were just friends.
When it was time for Quinn to be introduced as captain, you got delightful goosebumps on your body because you were so proud of him. You already knew he was captain but watching some of the old Canucks captains pass the torch over to one of your best friend’s brought a rush of happiness to you; your heart even skipped a beat as he put on the jersey with the “C” on it. The game itself was amazing; the Canucks beat the Oilers 8 to 1 and Quinn had a 3-point night. Throughout little moments during the game, Jim and Ellen would ask you different questions about yourself and share tidbits about Quinn; it was nice that they were actively engaging and getting to know you. You were worried that Jim and Ellen wouldn’t like you as a person and for their son but it turns out that they enjoyed your presence and it also didn’t hurt that it was really fun to cheer for Quinn alongside his parents.
After the game was over, you, Jim, and Ellen walked down the same tunnels to the Canucks dressing room that you had walked to over a year ago when you met Quinn for the first time but this time, you weren’t as nervous to see him. Still experiencing the high from the evening’s successful game, Quinn was so ecstatic to see you, waiting for him with his beloved parents. When Quinn had invited you to come to his game, he had imagined seeing you again in those familiar halls with his parents in his mind and that moment of imagination came true. In his post-game interview, Quinn had mentioned that he would hold onto the night’s memories forever and you would also hold onto those memories in your own way too.
————————————————————
Since the Canucks had to leave for a roadtrip after their home opener and you were leaving soon, you had one last day to both celebrate Quinn’s birthday early and also to do something to say farewell to you. Instead of just a big fancy birthday/goodbye dinner, you and Quinn decided to go out for a day on the golf course and out to a casual dinner afterward; you also had to run a few errands because Quinn needed to grab some things before leaving on his upcoming road trip. Quinn picked you up to go with him to drop off his parents at the airport so that you could see them again and he wanted your opinion on some things when he went to IKEA. The car ride over to the airport was fine and Jim and Ellen didn’t mind getting in some extra time with their potential child-in-law. You and Quinn stepped out of the car to help with their bags and give his parents a goodbye hug. While you were giving the Hughes family some space and waiting in the car, Ellen whispered in her son’s ear that you were a keeper. His mother was right and Quinn had known that from the moments that he spent with you, the conversations you shared together and you were everything he ever wanted. Quinn had the keys to unlock your heart but he just needed to use them. Throughout the entire time you were there, Quinn began mentally preparing himself to confess his feelings for you somehow but those plans always fell flat because the anxiety of not being sure if you liked him romantically lingered throughout the air and he was scared to ruin the friendship you shared. He was falling for you hard but he was afraid to take that leap.
With one final wave goodbye, Jim and Ellen left for their flight to New Jersey and you and Quinn continued on the day’s itinerary. Goodbyes were always going to be a bit difficult, no matter who or what you were saying goodbye to. Quinn tried to not wear his heart on his sleeve and be strong but you could tell that Quinn was sad to see his parents go so you reached over and gently placed your hand on top of his. Quinn told you thank you and you shared a quick glance with him before arriving at IKEA. Instead of immediately telling you how he felt, you and Quinn aimlessly wandered around the large store; you had mentioned to Quinn that his apartment was missing a floor lamp in the living room so that he didn’t have to use the overhead ceiling light as much and he took you to IKEA to help him pick one out. Thursday afternoons at IKEA were quiet so it was almost like you and Quinn had the whole store to yourselves. As you walked through the store, you and Quinn looked at the different room setups and asked each other what you liked and disliked about each room setup; you also both began to imagine what it would be like to share a home together. Quinn even absentmindedly grabbed onto your hand and your fingers interlocked together for a brief second before you found the lamps and slipped your hand away to look at them. You picked out a black floor lamp that matched the aesthetic of Quinn’s apartment and continued to wander around the store until you reached the cash register. Quinn didn’t try to hold your hand again and neither of you brought up that moment for the rest of the day. Your time at the golf course was fun; being the self-proclaimed golf expert he was, Quinn did win the game.
Quinn decided that he wanted to have his birthday dinner/last meal with you at Moxie’s. While you waited for your food to arrive, you gave Quinn his birthday gift. It was challenging to get a gift for someone who could afford plenty and rarely mentioned what they wanted so you got Quinn a signed copy of Golf Kitchen, a cookbook that included recipes from some of the most famous golf clubs around the world, and a grill set that looked like golf items; it combined two of his interests: cooking and golf. Quinn was a bit taken aback by your gift because you didn’t have to actually get him anything; your presence and time spent with him was a gift within itself. He had mentioned it before but Quinn was so grateful to have you as a part of his life and he was going to miss you tremendously once you returned home. You would miss him so much and were sad that your great time with Quinn was coming to an end; you still had an extra full day in Vancouver before your flight early Saturday but the Canucks were leaving for Edmonton on Friday after morning skate.
After dinner, Quinn walked you up to your hotel room and you and Quinn continued to soak up all of the time you had left together as much as you could before the inevitable departure came. Before leaving, Quinn passed you a signed warm-up puck from last night’s game, mentioning that he owed it to you. You held the piece of rubber in your hand, smoothing your fingers over his signature.
“So now, you own two things with my name on it”, Quinn cheesily told you.
You were trying to hold back your tears and masquerade your emotions but you began to sob while embracing Quinn for one last time. Quinn felt a bit emotional too and he blurted out that he was in love with you; he decided to be brave and not let the fear take over. You thought your mind was playing a trick on you when you heard him so you looked up at the green eyes that were staring and waiting for a reply from you.
“Did you just say that you’re in love with me?”, you hesitantly asked.
“Um, maybe I should have kept that to myself. I’m sor-”, Quinn rambled.
You cut Quinn off with a kiss, something that he had been waiting a while to experience with you. You repeated that you had loved Quinn back as well. A long wave of relief rushed over the both of you; the jump was worth the fall and you were there to catch him. You didn’t have to say it out loud but Quinn knew that you would always be there for him. Quinn asked if you were available to come back to visit him for Christmas and New Year’s. Maybe losing in a fantasy league wasn’t so bad after all.

Courtesy of the Smash Hits Yearbook (1988), here are some tips if you're inviting Freddie Mercury over for dinner!
TRANSCRIPTION:
Simple Tips If You're Having Lord Frederick Lucan of Mercury Round For Dinner (courtesy of his personal assistant Joe Fanelli)
Exotic food is a winner - try North African food, curries or good French cooking.
Don't try veal - he might go all queasy.
Carrots are off too.
Lamb is decidedly "iffy" - don't risk it.
Remember, if he brings Brian May, meat is off altogether - nothing but vegetables and fish, matey.
Remember, if he brings John Deacon, to have something simple and traditional in reserve - try pie and mash.
Remember that, if he brings Roger Taylor with him, lamb is no longer just "iffy" - it's a recipe (geddit?) for disaster.
Avoid all jovial mid-meal ripostes like "if you don't eat meat you won't get no pudding" or "I'll wash, you dry."
Happy cooking!

Summary: The newest member of the avengers feels invisible. A shitty mission and social media brings her to her breaking point. See what happens when she confronts the team.
Warnings: angst, mentions of death (briefly)
A/N: not me dipping for like two years and returning. Sorry it took me so long, I'll try to write more often now. Hope you enjoy this little one shot that was caused by me feeling invisible.
Tumblr media
Another mission successfully completed. It's your fifth mission as an Avenger and you couldn't be happier that it's over.
Two weeks, two exhausting weeks with Hydra finding their single brain cell and not being predictable this time. But it's over now, you can return home to the tower and spend time with... no one.
The Avengers were nice, they really were. Welcoming you with open arms, always striking up conversation when you were around but you couldn't miss that no one ever asked you to spend time with them besides the team activities. They didn't mean it, you're sure of that but you can't stop the pang in your heart when Wanda and Nat make shopping plans right in front of you and don't invite you. Or when Steve and Bucky plan a little day trip and think of inviting Sam to come along but not you who was sitting right next to him on the couch.
More than once the delivery person forgot your food. Steve was always nice enough to share one of his three portions with you but not even the delivery person struck you as important enough to remember your order.
You find yourself in the hallway after the debrief. Everyone was tired, exhausted and done. Your eyes flicker over the little friend groups building to walk back to the common area together. Clint who has been shot hanging off Natasha's shoulder, laughing at something she said. Sam and Bucky bickering with Steve walking between them like an over exhausted dad. Tony and Bruce talking big ideas to improve suits, weapons and the team. Wanda and Vision lost in each other, holding hands. And then there was you. Standing in the hallway, surrounded by people, watching and still feeling utterly alone. Agents flutter around you, not even giving you a glance. Sometimes you just feel so invisible... So unimportant. Like you shouldn't even be a member of this team.
Tired feet carry you to your room, you take the route that's longer but it avoids the common area. Your heart can only take so much. And all you need right now is a hot shower, your bed and mindless scrolling through social media. You're not even in the mood to eat lunch. At least not in the common room. The stash of protein bars under your bed will have to do.
So you take a long warm shower, letting the water run over your body while Taylor Swift's voice fills the room alongside the humidity that lets the mirror fog. You dry yourself, slip into comfy pyjamas and soon enough your head meets your pillow. You breathe in the scent of home and crawl under the comforter. Finally your hand reaches for your phone. You've been gone for a while, you probably missed some things. Your phone starts up slowly and some notifications come through. You have missed emails -most of them newsletters-, a few notifications of Instagram -celebrities and acquaintances posting things- and no one reaching out to you personally. Your eyes fall shut for a moment as your heart breaks a little more. You really thought you're a decent human being... Why did no one like you? Why did no one think of you?
Your thumb hovers over the Instagram icon, trying to decide if you should open the app. With a sigh you open it, a little mindless scrolling could do no harm. Right?
Wrong. Somehow you land on the official avengers account. Your eyes scanning the pictures. There has been one new post while you were gone - a picture of the team minus you. Wasn't your portrait supposed to be posted to announce you as a new member? Maybe they had to push it back... Or maybe they didn't want you on the account. Would explain why you're the one who's cropped out of the group picture. The caption mentions something about the team answering questions soon and telling people to comment what they always wanted to know. You know that Instagram comment sections are a different kind of world. One that can be really positive or just down right toxic. Yet you still click into it, curious what questions you'd find.
Some of them ask for Natasha's makeup routine, a lot ask for Steve to finally post a shirtless picture on his account, some ask why Bucky always looks so grumpy. There's genuinely nice questions asking for self defense tips or if they can come to schools to visit kids. And then there's the comments that are just plain rude, insulting about any member of the team. And then there's this one...
Cropped the new girl out already huh? Knew that ugly incompetent chick wasn't made for this team. Good riddance.
No matter how hard you tried you couldn't tear your eyes off it. Your pupils scan over the words again and again and again. Till hot tears spilled. Till you completely lost it as an ugly sob tore through you. You weren't good enough for this team, for your family, for your friends, for anyone or anything in this world. You were invisible and you always would be.
Logically you knew that keeping all of this in and being exhausted by the two week long mission was causing this break down. If you would have told someone you felt this way, things would be different. But your emotions got the better of you. Which is how you found yourself on a very determined march to the common area. Jammies on, your phone clutched in your hand, tears streaming down your hardened face. Your brain didn't even process your way here, you just suddenly found yourself in front of the avengers who were eating dinner - without you. You're met with some concerned faces but before anyone can say anything your words cut the thick air.
"I quit." You say, voice wobblier than you intended. The lump in your throat growing by the second. "What? Y/N what brought this on? I know the mission was hard but..." before a very concerned Steve could finish his sentence you cut him off. "This isn't about the fucking mission, Rogers." Your voice is full of venom. "This is about... You know what this is about this" you wave your hand around the room. Gazes turn to confusion. "And this!" You shove your phone into Steve's face, the group picture you've been cropped out of on the display.
"A picture of us? I don't... Understand..." Steve breaks the silence after a moment. "A picture of you. You guys and oh would you look at that... A little bit of my sleeve over there." You point out. "I've been cropped out." You explain further.
"Alright firecracker you know we're not responsible for the account. That's the social teams doing." Tony jumps in. "Yeah. Yeah you're right. You know what's your doing though?" You say as you retract your phone out of Steve's face. You slide it in your pocket and take a steadying breath. "Not inviting me to join activities, not telling the fucking delivery guy that maybe, just maybe there's a new member on the team after he forgot my food for the third fucking time in a row. Skipping my turn to pick a god damn movie because you all forgot to tell me you're doing an improv movie night. Walking back from a debrief in your little groups, none of you even thinking of just waiting a second so I can at least walk with someone. Oh and this. You're having dinner, the team, and who wasn't here until she stormed in? Me." You didn't realise that your voice got louder, the frustration got the better of you. "And it's not just this. No one thinks I belong here. No one in the comments of that post, not the press... Hell, even Friday still calls me recruit. If you don't want a new member on the team just say so. I'll leave. You'll never see me again. I'll turn invisible like I always feel... Like I am." you add quietly now, not even sure if anyone but you heard it. The lump in your throat is impossibly thick and finally it completed its mission and tore another sob from you. It hurts. It hurts to not belong. It hurts to be invisible. There's a short silence before the scraping of a chair on the floor fills the air. Mere seconds later you're wrapped up in strong arms, pulling you into a much needed hug. A large hand rubs your back.
"This is... We don't want you to leave. We... I never noticed we did that... You're just... It has been so long since we added a new member... This is a bullshit excuse I know. I'm sorry." Steve mumbles into your hair. His warmth seeps into your body as your tears wet his shirt. "Why didn't you tell us earlier? You know you can always come to me to talk" he adds softly after a moment. You let out a shaky breath. And another... And another, trying to find your voice after this pathetic performance. "I..." you croak out and immediately stop. Steve's hand rubs up and down your back.
"I felt the same way." The voice of Wanda pulls your face out of Steve's chest, your watery eyes finding hers. "I joined the team after my brother died. I've always been with him. I never felt alone but... Then I did. And believe me they don't do it on purpose. They have their little groups inside of this big one and they don't immediately think about including someone new. I'm sorry that I didn't think about it." She says softly. "I always felt alone in the beginning, I never got invited to go places, the press tore me apart because this random European with weird powers was suddenly a member of the earth's mightiest heroes, the social team didn't post my introduction portrait... I also wanted to quit but... then they organised a dinner with Paprikash... They made it for me because they thought I was homesick... and I realised that they do care about me. And I promise you, we do care about you. Steve made sure to tell the restaurant twice to not forget your order today." She points to the unopened container. "And when Nat wanted to get you for dinner she heard that you were showering and then we assumed you just needed some time for yourself."
Your eyes wander over the concerned faces of the team, then back to Wanda, then to the container of food, then finally to Steve. "You told them to remember my food?" You whisper. He nods immediately.
"Not because I don't like to share mine! Because I thought you'd like yours more and it happened three times already and I..." He gets cut off as you hug him back with a bit too much force. "Thank you" you whisper before you let him go and look at the team. "I'm sorry for the outburst... I... should have said something earlier but I… I felt so invisible and it's not like many people care about me in general and then I read some comments under the post and I... My brain shut off." You look down at your bare feet, not brave enough to face any of them.
"Friday? Please call Y/N firecracker from now on." Tony was the first to speak and as you looked at him in surprise he just gave you a smirk before going back to his food. Other team members give you smiles, small nods, Clint even signs that it's all good to you.
Steve's warm hand finds the small of your back and leads you to the table, to your unassigned spot right next to him. Both of you sit down and you open your food, your heart fills as you see your order. Low chatter fills the room as you eat. Wanda invites you to go shopping the next day, Sam invites you to mario kart after dinner. You feel stupid, oh so stupid. You should have just said something earlier. This all could have been avoided.
"I know why your portrait didn't get posted yet." You frown as you look at Bucky who simply smiles. "Stevie here…" his hand falls on the shoulder of his friend. Steve's eyes fill with dread, his ears turn pink. "...knows that you weren't happy with it. So he told the social team to hold off posting it until he can sketch a new portrait of you." His lips are parted in a shit eating grin. Steve is blushing madly, trying to hide it by staring at the tabletop. His fists clenching.
"You... Want to draw a portrait of me?" You ask softly, looking at the blonde next to you. After a few seconds he simply nods, his eyes still fixed on the table. "Because I didn't like the one the photographer took?" your lips pull into a small smile as he gives you another nod. "Why would you do that?" you ask softly.
"Because he has a big fat..." Bucky starts but is quickly interrupted by a death glare of his blonde friend. The former assassin gets out of his seat and proceeds to put some distance between the two super soldiers, Steve's eyes follow him with the same warning glance.
"...crush on you." Bucky finishes and immediately takes off running. Steve's chair falls to the floor as he jumps up to run after him. Your eyes follow the two of them, Bucky's snickers and Steve's curses filling the air.
Maybe... Just maybe you weren't invisible after all.
And you knew you weren't when Steve found you later that night with the sketch of you in his hand and a confession on his lips.

hi
could you please do a BoRhap request? Where she looks after the guys during recording since her family owns Rockfield Farm and they love her cooking? But the guys (minus Fred who has Mary) all fancy her too?
❤️
SOMEBODY TO LOVE
Pairings: John + Roger + Brian x Fem!reader Summary: ^^ Warnings: none, I don't think Note: I did my best guys, I'm sorry
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a knock came to your door as you finished up breakfast
you left the kitchen and went to the front door
you opened the door to see a blonde with long hair with sunglasses on
he was wearing dark, slightly flared jeans, a yellow v neck shirt underneath a greeny grey jacket with fur
behind him was a short haired brunette with a mustache
he pushed the blonde out of the way and held out his hand
"hi, I'm paul, this is Roger, From Queen" he introduced
of course you knew Queen was coming to your family's farm, it wasn't like you didn't know who they were and wouldn't let them in, it's just that you felt Rogers gaze planted on you and it made you feel a little nervous
"you're not" Roger scoffed quietly
"yes, of course, come in, are the rest here too?" you asked, stepping out of the way to let them in
"they're sorting out their luggage" Roger answered, taking off his glasses
"well, I made breakfast..if you're hungry?" you smiled tightly
"depends what you're serving" Roger smirked and looked you up and down
"pancakes" you responded quickly
"yeah, I could eat"
he followed you to the kitchen and he took a seat, shovelling food onto the plate in front of him and started eating
a few minutes later Roger had finished his plate and went back for seconds
"ah there you are Freddie" Paul spoke up, noticing the other three band members by the door
"we're also here mate" the tall, long curly haired brunette said, seeming annoyed by Paul's presence
"should I show you boys to your rooms?" you wondered, breaking the silence that filled the room
The three boys standing at the door all turned to you
"didn't know the farm came with a pretty lady" the curly Brunette smiled
"oh I'm Y/n. this is my Family's Farm. I live in the building beside this one, I'm just here to show you around"
"are those pancakes for us?" the auburn haired one said
"oh, yes! you can have as many as you want" you pointed to the mountain of pancakes you had made on the counter
"they are delicious" Roger said with a mouthful of food
"well I'm Brian, This is Fred and John and I see you've already met Rog"
"it's a pleasure to meet you guys"
"pleasure's all ours darling" Freddie beamed
"well I'll show you your rooms then" you said taking off your apron and leading them upstairs
"it's probably not what you're used to but your manager said it was perfect to get away from distractions so" you shrugged
you turned to face the boys and see Roger first
"you're in here. mister Taylor" you looked to the first door
"right" he grunted, walking into the room with his heavy luggage
"and that's yours, Mister Mercury" you pointed to the room in the corner to the left
"thank you darling"
"Mister May, yours is right here" pointing to the right side next to the bathroom
Brian walked into the room and you noticed John still standing on the top of the stairs
"oh, sorry. mister Deacon, you're downstairs" he walks back down the stairs and you lead him down to the room.
"I know it's small but it doesn't get nearly as cold as the other rooms" you informed him
"okay..." he frowns as he steps down
"well I'll let you get settled then, i'll show you and the band around when you're ready" you smiled, starting to go up the stairs
"are there still pancakes?" he asked, putting his luggage down on the bed
"oh yeah, they'd probably still be warm too" you answered
he soon started following you up the stairs to the kitchen to find all the other members of the band eating the pancakes
"Rog really didn't lie, these pancakes are delicious" Brian hummed
"we need more syrup" Roger lifted up the empty bottle of maple syrup
"oh..ok" you walked over to the fridge as John took a seat and started eating the food
"here you go" you grinned, putting the syrup on the table in front of them
-
it's been a few days since they've arrived and much to your surprise, you've seen more of them then you expected
you didn't think you would see much of them, you thought thy would be very busy and you didn't have a problem with that
but Roger, Brian and John all seemed to want you around them
Roger would casually flirt with you
Brian would always start up a conversation or make you help with with a lyric
and John would subtly make eye contact and smile before coming up to you to ask for suggestions
and they would all ask if you could cook them up something when they got hungry and said they liked your cooking, so much so that there would be barely any left for Freddie or you.
Roger was currently helping you make breakfast while Brian and John sat and ate while they discussed songs
"i put my heart and soul into this song" Roger spoke up as they talked about his new song he made
"no one is disputing that" John smiled, lifting up his fork
"and you don't like it because you want your songs on the album" Roger fought
"it's not that Roger" John denied
"then what is it?" the blonde raised his eyebrows as he stopped cutting bread
"I'm in love with my car?" Brian spoke up
you fought back a laugh at the thought of the song
Brian and John both made a questionable face as silence filled the air
"maybe it's not strong enough?" Brian suggested
"what does that even mean 'not strong enough'?" Roger frowned
"I know I'm late. What did I miss?" Freddie came in and poured himself some tea
John straightened his back and looked at the singer "discussing Roger's car song"
"is it strong enough, that's all I'm asking. If I'm on my own here, then i apologise" Brian put his hands up defensively
"how does your new song go, then, hm?" Roger walked over and grabbed Brians lyrics
"you call me sweet.. like I'm some kind of cheese" the drummer read out
you stifled a laugh as you cooked bacon
"it's good" Brian defended, looking at the John who was eating a sausage with a smile and Freddie who was stirring his tea
"wow" Roger sighed sarcastically
"is that-, is that you know- when my hand's on your grease gun..That's very subtle isn't it?" Brian read Rogers back
"it's a metaphor, Brian" Roger argued
"it's just a bit weird Roger, what exactly are you doing with that car?" John spoke, waving his fork around
"what do you think, Y/n?" Roger turned to you, looking for backup
you put the now cooked bacon on a plate and turned to the boys
"don't turn to me, I'm not getting involved" you shook your head
"children please, we could all murder each other but then who would be left to record this album?" Freddie butted in
"statistically speaking, most bands don't fail, they break up" John stated mater-of-a-factly
"why the hell would you say something like that?" Freddie frowned
John shrugged and Freddie turned back to the Blonde
"Roger, there's only room in this band for one hysterical queen" Freddie informed the drummer before walking out
"you know why you're angry, Roger?" Brian began again
"...why?" Roger breathed out
"'cause you know you're song isn't strong enough" the curly headed man repeated
"boys I really don't think you should be-" you started to say but cut off by Roger throwing bacon at Brian's face
"is that strong enough?" Roger questioned
"ok" you mumbled, looking at John, who smiled at you amusingly
Roger pushed off plates and glasses off the table angrily
"what about that?!" he asked before going over to find something else
"Hey!" you yelled at Roger, who grabbed a pot of Coffee
he turned and began to swing it at the two boys before he stopped as they put their hands up
"Not the coffee machine!?" they both yelled
Roger put the coffee machine down and you sighed looking at the mess
"I'll clean this up" he sighed after a moment of silence
"you sure are" you nodded sternly
-
you sat in the recording room on the couch with John and Roger as Brian got ready to record his guitar
Roger slung his arm around your shoulder as Brian got set up
"so..how about we go get dinner later" he suggested
"pardon?" you wondered
"you, me, i'll take you out to dinner" he repeated
"I highly doubt she'll want to go out with you, Roger, she's too good for you" John sighed
"and what? you're better?" the drummer scoffed, looking over you to the auburn headed bassist
John stared at Roger for a moment
"how's katie? last time we saw her was right before we left to come here" the Deacon wondered
"shut it mate" Roger groaned
your thoughts were cut short as Brian started playing
you focused on the music but felt John's gaze on you, you slowly turned your head to see him staring at you, smiling
"so, do you have a boyfriend?" Roger asked
"I don't see how that's any of your business" you crossed your arms, looking back at Brian, who's still playing his solo
"what if I want to ask you out?" he shrugged
"how come you're the one that gets to ask her out?" John leans forward to argue with Roger
"because I can" the Taylor boy smirked
"Roger, do you have to be such a man whore?" John questioned, his accent become more defined and thick
"I think you're just jealous you don't get women chasing after you" Roger huffed, leaning back on the couch, seeming to be not fazed
"ah yes, because all i need is women to make me feel better about myself, all i need and want is women around me to fill a void of unfulfillment" John rolled his eyes
"oh yeah? let's see who she wants more then" Roger raises his eyebrows as he took off his glasses to look at you
John frowned "you can't pressure her into choosing either of us...that's not how relationships work, Roger"
Roger stifled a laugh "who said I wanted a relationship"
"my point exactly"
"all i'm saying" is that she's probably looking for somebody to love and i'm right here" Roger raised his hands in defense
"what makes you think she wants someone?" John glared
"children, children. leave the poor girl alone, she doesn't want either of you" Freddie butted in
you found yourself wondering how it came to this, two members of the band Queen almost practically fighting for your, to be with you
it made sense about Roger, seeing all of those tabloids of him with new girls around his shoulder almost every week
but John? he didn't really seem the type
you tuned out of the argument and soon wondered when Brian came back into the room as you looked up to find him sitting with Freddie
"I think whatever happens, it's up to her, you shouldn't be trying to force something she does not want" John fought
"what are you guys fighting about?"
"who gets to take this beautiful lady out" Roger smirked, nodding towards you
"who says either of you get to?" Brian spoke in a confused manner
"oh don't tell me you want her too?" Roger groaned
"what's so wrong about that?" the guitarist questioned
"I'm gonna go" you sighed, getting up
"are you still going to make us pasta tonight?" John perked up
you chuckled "I think you all need a break from my cooking"
"NO!!"

Clean/is it over now?
This whole story was basically inspired by clean, is it over now, now that we don’t talk, wonderland, style, basically the whole 1989 album, all too well 10 version, and illicit affairs
Can you tell I love Taylor Swift? 🤭
Nomad grey! Soft dark! Steve rogers x reader. Cheating!!!! Angst!!!! Depressed reader, tony dying. The time line if messed up do t do the math I already tried lol. Reader is Tony Starks, daughter, but race or looks are not described.
Seeing his blue eyes in the forefront of your mind was haunting. you couldn’t get clean off of him His whispers had changed every muscle in your body to love him and only him. Was it over when she laid down on your couch was it over when he unbuttoned your blouse? Was it over then and is it over now? The question you asked every night, or when you walked in every room that held the blondes with love eyes. Your scorned young body, a solider returning half her weight, the blue muse hidden from view hurting from seeing the flashing lights as he showcased her to all.
Steve Rogers was your first lover, only 18, and somehow the family friend since your early teen years was gone and replaced with a man of love and stolen kisses. His hands fire, his lips held unfished unspoken ‘I love yous’. If your love is over, why do you wait? Why do you hide in your hidden places he took you so no one could hear your sweet nothing relationship and moans. Why are you still writing pages about a love story that has ended?
You remember the tension in the last years before the full out. His smile on your 18th birthday, him slow dancing with you, everyone at the party drunk or too blinded by the American dream to notice he was more then a family friend or uncle Steve, your father's co-worker and avenger. Blushing in arms, your teenage heart bursting in shy looks away from the man holding your waist. Then by next celebration, Only ever held hands with a boy and suddenly a lover, what an unexpected transition for an 19 year old girl. Never knowing how love worked nor how cruel his could be.
Now 25 never had another lover, the habit for you never left, still lost in wonderland though he was lost in anothers. Trying to find a cure, to bring dust to people, standing in a room with the rest of (what's left of) the Avengers brings acid up your throat. The secret too big to share with your father and how his old best friend broke your heart, it ate you alive for lying, dying. Dying feeling like the world's worst daughter, watching him sacrifice himself while whispering to you how much he loved you was the ground falling underneath what made your sky.
Steve picking your crumpled body off the ground crying at your father's asleep feet to forgive you for your secrets. Sobbing into the man you loved and hated, hated for leaving you scared and confused during the civil war. You sat at home heartbroken praying he was okay and that he would just sign the damn papers, that your father didn't kill him, while he made out with Sharon Carter. Pounding on his chest screaming at him to let you go, you struggled in his arms while he tried to calm you down.
You yelling at him that it was all his fault, only the two of you knowing what you meant.
After that you didn't talk to him, what was really left of the Avengers lives in the compound and so does Steve's new finance, the younger blonde, who giggles like you did, he’s not afraid to tell people he loves her. The pain mixed in with love unrequited.
Tumblr media
A mission in the tall mountains was the reopening of the love affair, you think of jumping off every tall somethings just to see if he comes running, but no.
“I’ve missed you” he spoke to you leaning on the kitchen island, you sitting at the dinner table eating soup, you ignored him. “y/n”
“Let's leave the past where it belongs,” you said
“Babygirl please” Steve pushed himself off the counter, pulling your chair away from the table, now squatting in front of you. His hands holding yours.
“You’re engaged, we shouldn’t requel our relationship now, and I can't even look at you without wanting you” you admitted softly to him looking down at your lap where your hands and his lay.
“I still love you y/n, and I know I left. I know I should have come back to you baby. I’m a sick man but your my love baby and I can't see you love me everyday while I pretend she's you.”
“No, do you think I didn't see you, there was flashing lights at least I had the decency to keep my nights out of sight, were we over when you kissed Sharon? You try and find something better in every girl's bed-.”
Steve kissed you deeply cutting you off, his hands moved to your shoulders pulling you closer. You kissed him back, the feeling different from the innocent love, that the devil he was truly letting himself mask in it.
His arms wrapped around your waist, and your legs wrapped around his. He took you to bed, naked bodies meeting again. His thrusts drove moans out of you like no other.
“You're still my baby, c'mon I’m still your Stevie” his words kissed your skin. “Say it, say you're still mine, I’m still your daddy” he demanded his thrusts becoming harder.
“I-i love you Daddy” you squeaked out Steve smiling at your words knowing he still had you after all these years.
“Don't you ever take away my baby again. You’re my baby.” after his words, you moaned loudly your face buried in between his neck and shoulder. Cumming full force.
“That's it babygirl, cum for me.”
Steve and you laid down still naked in each other's arms, feeling his warmth.
“We’re staying here, I'm not going back to her,” he spoke sternly
“What?” you replied back, pulling away so you could see his face.
“We’re stayin’ here, we’re gonna build a family and I’m not letting you out of my sight again baby. You’re mine. I love you” Steve said still stern but with a dark look in his eyes.
“I’ve watched you hurt and be alone far too long, I've saved the world for you, killed for you, wanted you… Say it back y/n”
“I-i love you, Stevie”
10 months older, a baby five months in. You can't quit, you can't say you got clean. 10 months older now he can admit there was no mission just a trick to get you back.

Montreux Part 5: Ask Phoebe and Meet Greg Brooks & Jim Jenkins - 2 Sept 2023
The main afternoon sessions of the Official Freddie Mercury Birthday Party in QSE brought out some special guests. Phoebe was back with a special Q&A session, with each session consisting of 10-12 people. We all sat round in a secluded makeshift room and each gets one question to ask for Phoebe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I transcribed the Q&A session as best as I can below! I only lost a tiny bit but it didn't reduce the content at all. Some things he talked about was living in Garden Lodge, babysitting for John and Roger, and his thoughts about the Sotheby's auction.
I didn't prepare a specific question, but with the majority of audience demography of this entire event in mind, I had an agenda to ask about Jim Hutton to highlight in the discussion about how important he was for Freddie. Transcript under the cut!
ASK PHOEBE
Q1: I always wanted to know, there is this picture of Brian and Roger at Live Aid talking with Princess Diana, and I always wondered why wasn’t Freddie there, why didn’t he reach out as well.
A: He just didn’t want to be there, because he felt that it was… it would be used as promotion, and he just wasn’t prepared to be used.
Q1: Okay, but was he nervous like John or just didn’t want to…?
A: No. Just – he preferred to be out with friends backstage rather than sitting there… and do what? So that’s it.
Q2: Did Freddie ever meet Queen Elizabeth?
A: Queen Elizabeth, no, I don’t believe he did. The only person he sort of met and talked to and spent time with was the disgraced royal Prince Andrew.
Q2: (laughter) That’s great.
A: But he did offer to take Prince Andrew to Heaven nightclub, but even Prince Andrew thought he’d better not be seen there. (laughter) I mean, the best story, though. There was a gala, and Freddie was there and Prince Andrew was there and their staff, and they’re talking… and Freddie looks at Prince Andrew and says to me, “Phoebe! Take that plate away from him, look, he’s finished.” ‘Cause it was strawberries and cream and he just wasn’t going to eat it. So I took it away. And then, Prince Andrew said, “Well let me return the favour.” And he took Freddie’s scarf out of his champagne glass and wrung it out. (chuckles) So… in the days when he was… a good man.
Q3: Um, I know that he liked Prince and he liked Aretha Franklin… Like, out of today’s artists, do you think he would’ve liked Lady Gaga or Kelly Clarkson – somebody who has like a real soulful voice? Maybe Bruno Mars?
A: Probably. Probably. Um… the thing is he would be prepared to listen to a good voice, but it would be a good voice on his terms. The majority now, I don’t think he would spend time on. And the thing I find totally ridiculous – I saw the news yesterday that Warner Brothers in Germany has signed their first AI artist. So Warner Brothers is going to release Artificial Intelligence music. I mean, what is happening to this world? Where are – what’s happening to the people who can sing? It’s ridiculous. But that’s my opinion! Anything I say in here is my opinion!
Q4: As you have told, Peter, in interviews, we know how your relationship with Freddie was. But how did you get along with the rest of the group? Roger, Brian, John, and Mary Austin?
A: Fine! Fine, fine, fine. Particularly in the beginning when we were all on tour. I was on tour from 1979 until 1985. I mean, I was babysitting John’s children on the tour, and even back in London I was babysitting Felix Taylor. We were all a big group of people together, so we all just got on. Even to this day – I mean John, I haven’t spoken to since 1997, when he was asked to play with Queen, ‘cause I was there for that show in Paris. And… but the others – I mean, I live in the Czech Republic. Czech Republic is home for me, and they live… anywhere else in the world. But if I go to a show, then we’ll all sit backstage and we can talk for 3-4 hours. I remember one show not too long ago, I went backstage, they’ve done a 2 hours show, I went backstage and we sat and talked for 5 hours. So, you know, um… we still have a relationship. And Mary, for those 12 years, everything was fine. Um, she was part of Freddie’s life, I mean, we were all part of Freddie’s life. So, for Freddie, we all got on together. Because everything, everything all of us did was for Freddie.
Q5: How did you feel or what was your reaction when they told you that Freddie had a disease?
Well it was Freddie himself who told me. Um, he went and had a biopsy from a mark he had. And, that was… in March 1987. In May 1987, Freddie asked me to come to the kitchen. He made sure that Terry had gone out to do something and that Joe had gone out to do something. Cause he told each of us privately on our own. And he came down to the kitchen and he said, “Look, I’ve got something we have to talk about. You know I am sick.” I said, “Well, yeah I know you’re not too well… yeah.” He said, “You really, actually – you know what it is.” And I said, “Okay, I… I think I know, but… I hope I don’t know.” He said, “I have AIDS. This is the last time we will talk about this, because I have a life to live.” And in those four and a half years, […] the most brave, courageous man in my life that I’ve ever met, because he never let anything get him down, he never wanted sympathy from people, he never wanted to walk into a room and people go, “Oh Freddie, you must be tired, here’s a chair-“ He never wanted anything like that. While he could stand on his own two feet he was going to. And that’s how he faced his disease. And at the very end, it was him who was in control, because he was the one who decided he was not going to take any more medication that was going to keep him alive. He knew he was going to die from this, but it was under his terms, not the terms of the disease.
Q6: What was it like living with Freddie at Garden Lodge?
Amazing! (laughs) What else can I say? I mean, there was laughter, there was fun, he loved a good time. The thing is, Garden Lodge is a big house. It’s a very big house, but, it was a home. While Freddie was alive, the bricks were warm, there was a soul to the house, and it was home. And he said – I remember we were on the minstrel’s gallery and he said, “Look!” He realized, “This is your home. You are living here. This is home.” And that’s what it was. And it was a home full of fun and laughter. But, I mean – saying it again, and I don’t want to keep going back to it – literally minutes after Freddie died, it was just bricks and mortar. It was just a house. A house with beautiful things in it. Because it was him who made that thing. And he was the life and the soul of that place. And, on contrary to what you see in the film, he was really happy, and he enjoyed his life.
Q7: What do you think about the decision of Mary Austin to sell all these things? Honestly?
Mary Austin is selling her things. That’s it. Freddie Mercury decided he wanted Mary to have everything 32 years ago. So, they are Mary’s things. Um, she could – over 30 years, she could be selling something here, sell something there quietly, nobody knows anything about it. But no, she took care – and think of the memories that must have stirred in her. And she kept everything there for 32 years. And now, she has said to the world, “Here is Freddie.” Of what Sotheby’s had done with it is incredible. Because I guarantee anybody who has seen it or will see it that – the Freddie you knew, at the beginning when you walk in the door, is not the Freddie you will know, when you walk out the door. Because you learn so much more about Freddie. And even if you look at the catalogues online, you can see – you get more of an idea of Freddie in person. Because for me, you all know the amazing musician, the performer, the composer, this giant. But I want you to know a little bit more about the person who created all of this music, and performed, and what he got out of it. Because he performed for all of you. He performed for the public. He wanted every pair of eyes on him, so that he could give himself to people.
Q8: (A boy asking/talking with his mum in Italian, his mum translates roughly) He is just saying how you were his best friend.
A: I was a good friend. There were many best friends. But thank you.
Q8: (The mother apologizes for him interrupting Phoebe, explaining that he’s autistic)
A: Yeah, no, no, no, that’s fine, that’s fine, that’s fine. The fact is, he’s here. There is no – for half of you, you could not have seen Freddie performing live. But you’re here. And he – look at him! He is here! He is the next generation that will carry on Freddie for the next 30 or 40 years. And then probably his child will, because of the passion. So thank you. Thank you very much.
Q9: My question is probably a bit different – I want to ask about one of the people closest to Freddie, who was Jim Hutton, who I understand was his partner in the last few years of his life. What was he like as a person, as a partner to Freddie in your perspective? Any stories or memories of him?
A: The thing is I knew Jim long before Freddie knew Jim. I was working in Selfridges, I was 19 years old, I was an assistant manager of a restaurant in there. Jim worked in gentlemen’s bespoke wigs, and he would come in the restaurant every morning for coffee. So we were sat, we would chat – so I knew him. That was in ’72. Then Freddie met him in 1985. And I could not believe – I was going round to Stafford Terrace ‘cause Freddie was still there, and I knocked on the door, and Jim opened the door. ‘Cause I hadn’t seen him for so many years! (recalls in a low voice) “…What are you doing here?” “Oh, well… Freddie…” (imitates a shrug, a “you know” gesture) “Uh-huh. Okay.” Um, Jim… was very protective of Freddie. He was never jealous of Freddie, but he wanted to protect Freddie from any harm. Sometimes, it came across as just (gestures a tight hug to himself) not letting anybody near, you know? But it wasn’t really like that. Jim loved Freddie. He did. That I have no doubt. And he wanted to do things that would please Freddie, so he always took care of the garden, he even bred koi carp for him, you know? Because you take the eggs out of the fish pond and put them in the tank at the back with aerated water and grow the eggs into, you know, little fish and everything, so they could put the fish back into the pond. He would do those things for Freddie. There was a genuine relationship there.
Q10: In your knowledge, is there a concert that Freddie was very proud of that he did?
I think he was most proud of the Budapest show. Because he was performing in front of an audience that had very, very, little chance of seeing any big bands. So the reception that he was getting from this huge massive crowd filled his heart. He was a performer, you know – the more the audience gives him, the more he could give them. And there was these thousands of people. And also the fact that there were 26 cameras filming the whole thing. And so, he was so proud of that video, you know, the Budapest Live, the video. But also, he – he “learned” (sighs, in a fond mocking tone “as if”) – he wrote on his hand that song to sing! You know, um… yeah, he was really, really happy with that show.
Q11: Is there anybody living in Garden Lodge now?
A: Not now cause there’s no furniture in Garden Lodge. No, the thing is Mary hasn’t lived in Garden Lodge for a few years. Because with Garden Lodge came the mews, and she was living in the mews and she bought more in the mews and made a bigger house there. So, at least she could keep the memories of Garden Lodge in Garden Lodge. And she employed someone to keep coming in every day, to clean everything –
Q11: And the Christmas tree, as well?
A: No, I don’t think the Christmas tree –
Q11: In the garden.
A: Ah, in the – ah, yes, yes, yes. But she kept everything going for all these years. And the thing is, if you think about it, she’s 73 now, and if something happens to her, she’s got two children – two boys, in their thirties – who have no idea what to do. At least Mary has some knowledge of these things, so that she can give them with that knowledge. The children would have nothing. And who knows what would happen then. So, that’s why again I think it’s the right thing that she’s done. She’s made it ready for everybody. I know not everybody can afford it, but there are cheap… (“as if” tone) cheap… better-priced things. There are accessible things. But when it comes to the auction itself, who knows what will happen.
End of Phoebe's Q&A! The whole session was about 30 mins long.
Bonus - as we all went out I saw Greg Brooks and Jim Jenkins in the main QSE room. They were offering visitors the chance to take a picture with Freddie's microphone (part of the costume exhibition that I posted here) with proceeds donated for the MPT. So I had my picture taken with the mic and stopped by to chat with them and took pictures with them as well!

There will be one more post for the afternoon session in QSE before the big party, and that will be dedicated for the Mixing Desk session with the legendary Justin Shirley-Smith!! Thanks for reading this far!

"We used to wait for a weekly hamper from his Freddie’s mother - and then I used to eat as much of it as I could. He had quite a strict upbringing, and the maternal influence was very strong.
My mother’s got quite an imperial way with her and, yes, Freddie was afraid of her - in fact everyone was afraid of my mother (laughs). She kept him in line. I recall she could never work out how Freddie’s trousers had such a perfect crease in them"

I find it funny how I’m a bi in theory and not in practice because I’m AroAce HOWEVER I find women to be so beautiful and Nonbinary people to be so majestic and then guys to me are like the stale mints in your grandma’s house. I’ll take them to be polite, but for the most part it’s a no. (Obviously, Roger Taylor from Queen is the exception but y’know…) (and dudes, I love y’all for the most part, except for if your an Andrew Tate fan…then your the rotten candies mistaken for mothballs)
Anyways, love your blog so much!! It truly helped me come to terms about being Ace and demiromantic!! ^^ <3 (don’t worry, that’s a platonic heart)
The part about Roger Taylor from Queen hit close to home because I had a Queen phase as well except my Guy was Brian May. I was convinced I had a crush on him but no I just wanted to be him. I figured out I was trans like a year later. And yeah "bi in theory" hits the nail on the head cause sometimes I still find people (mostly women and like a handful of specific men) really fucking hot but in the same way soap looks really tasty and smells sweet but you know you can't eat it because it's not food

Checkmate, I couldn’t lose
Tumblr media
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Bucky Barnes
Rating: T
Word count: 1.1k
Tags: Modern AU, rich Steve Rogers, con man Bucky Barnes, idiots in love
Summary: Bucky is a con man, ready to steal all of Steve’s money so he’ll be set for life. Problem is…Steve’s onto him from the start, but plays along anyway.
Title from Mastermind by Taylor Swift
So I told you none of it was accidental And the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me I laid the groundwork and then saw a wide smirk On your face, you knew the entire time You knew that I'm a mastermind And now you're mine Yeah, all you did was smile 'Cause I'm a mastermind
Tumblr media
Written for @allcapsbingo card: AC1005 | Adoptable: Inheritance
Tumblr media
Bucky does what he has to, to get by. He’d always been good at bullshitting his way out of things, but when he ended up on the streets as a teenager, he needed to step it up to survive. It started out with petty theft, distracting people so he could sneak a wallet or jewelry away from them to give him some cash to eat and to sleep somewhere. But he learned quickly, had some people teach him more skills, and now, in his mid twenties, he only did the petty stuff to get a little thrill.
He’d pretended to be so many different people, pretended to have so many different jobs. He’d played some long cons and cashed in. But he was getting to a point where he wanted it to stop. His current funds would last him a couple of years, maybe. Bucky needed one big job to set him up for life.
Finding the right mark took some time, but he’d finally found him. Steve Rogers was a well-known millionaire, coming from a prominent family. His parents had passed and had left him the bulk of his money in his inheritance, but he didn’t seem too attached to it, ending up in the society pages often enough wearing expensive clothes and accessories, driving expensive cars, stories of women who’d dated him that recounted extravagant dates and gifts. On top of that, he donated large amounts of money to charity each year.
So, he was someone that spent his money easily, and loved a good sob story. He was perfect. It didn’t hurt that he was gorgeous too. Bucky knew just how to part him from a large chunk of that  inheritance. And it wouldn’t take much more than batting his eyelashes and crying a little on cue. This was gonna be it. He was going to be set for life once he was done, he was sure of that.
He hadn’t been ready for Steve. He’d played it so cool, so perfectly, when they met and he could see the instant attraction in Steve’s eyes. It had seemed so simple then.
But nothing about Steve was simple. Bucky had to tell himself repeatedly why he was doing this, to not lose himself in the game and forget that this wasn’t real.
Steve made it so hard to remember that. He was kind, smart, wonderful. Bucky found himself imagining what it could be like, to actually be on Steve’s arm for real. But that was never going to happen. This Bucky, the Bucky Steve spent so much time on, listened to, laughed with, loved on - it was a character, not who he really was, even if he could feel himself slip sometimes.
Even if Steve could actually like him for who he was, that never was going to happen. Not if he knew why Bucky was here in the first place. He was so stupid. The first thing he’d learned was to not feel sorry for the mark, let alone feel this much for one.
The only thing he could hope for now, was that he got some results soon, so he could leave. So he could leave before it became impossible to do that without breaking his own heart.
Some nights, he felt like it was already too late for that.
Tumblr media
Bucky was different. It had taken Steve a moment to realize that, too distracted by a lean body and brilliant grey-blue eyes. Meeting him at the benefit for one of his many charities had felt like faith. Steve was done with dating around and ready to settle down, and at first Bucky seemed like he was interested in Steve for Steve, not his bank account.
He knew how people saw him. As a rich, spoiled playboy. Pretty, but not the sharpest tool in the shed. He was fine with that, mostly, although it was always disappointing when people didn’t see through that or paid too little attention to him to get that far, too focused on what he could do for them rather than who he was.
Bucky was different. He was focused on Steve.
There was only one problem. He was too focused on Steve. He knew too much about Steve, played too much into his weaknesses. He was too perfect. Once he’d noticed, he started paying attention to everything Bucky did. It didn’t take long to pick up on the fact that it was all an act.
He was sure Bucky hadn’t noticed, but Steve saw him slip up a couple of times, things he said or did just not matching up with the picture he was trying to create. It had made Steve smile a little. Bucky was smart, good at what he did. Steve was just too used to people trying to get something out of him, that he could see right through it. But he liked Bucky, so he let him play his game, just to see what would happen.
There wasn’t much he had to lose here. If Bucky managed to con him out of his money, that was fine. He cared little for it, he’d find a way to live the rest of his life without it. If Bucky didn’t manage to win this little game, Steve at least could have some fun while spending time with him, before Bucky probably would give up and disappear as quickly as he’d turned up.
He was sweet, funny, kind. Steve was more than willing to lose all of his money just for more time with that Bucky. He just hoped that Bucky felt the same. Steve was probably setting himself up for heartbreak. But he was having fun, playing along, and enjoyed every minute with Bucky when he was being himself.
Steve tried to show Bucky what it could be like without the con, to show him that there could be something there between them. That it could be real, if he wanted to, if he wanted to give up on playing this little game. It was hard to find the balance between showing him that, and making Bucky too suspicious. If that happened before Bucky was ready, if Bucky figured out that Steve knew what he was doing, he’d probably run for the hills.
Maybe Bucky would never be ready, but a Steve had hope. Maybe Bucky would break his heart, maybe he’d con Steve out of everything. But Bucky was worth it, he thought. Two could play this game, and Steve wasn’t planning on losing.
