Ninjago Alternative Universe elemental change with Kai having Water and Nya having Fire powers:
Ok, so before you go hear me out.
#Sibling elemental change
I know it's hard to imagine Kai having water powers instead of fire. It probably would look as if didn't fit him. It's way easier to imagine Nya with Fire element I guess.
But I think it'd be interesting to see his character development with that power. The fact that his character wouldn't fit to his power and Especially adding to this Kai's fear of drowning and the fact that he hates water.
It'd be nice character development to see.
At the begining of the season it'd Kai who was kidnapped by skeletons.
Not because he was weaker than her or something. Kai would probably try to safe his sister and by coocidence got kidnapped instead of her. Just to make sure she was safe he prefered to sacrifice himself.
Nya would train why Master Wu and become a strong ninja of fire to rescue her brother. But also bonded with the other ninjas.
In the meantime she'd also think that Jay's flirting attempts are cute-
Later seasons would also have a big impact on Kai.
Kai was Nya's older brother. He practically raised her. So, the fact that she is a ninja fighting evil and risking her life every day would definitely made a big impact on him.
The fact that Nya is stronger than him, and he cannot protect or help her in any way, would cause frustration, anger, and above all, a sense of helplessness in him.
Kai would try to support the team in any way he could, but the helplessness would still make him feel down and be with him.
From time to time he'd act like a big brother.
He wouldn't like Jay's interest in Nya at first, but later would accept it, since she likes him so much.
There wouldn't be a phase of being a green ninja, because well he isn't a ninja.
Instead Nya would like to become one. Not because of the titel or anything, but becuase it'd mean to be better to improve. Nya wants perfection. She wants to be the best version of herself. So she works very hard to achieve that.
She wouldn't be annoying about becoming the green ninja like Kai- She would work hard to be the best.
In the meantime comes Lloyd.
Kai has way better relationship with him here compared to the cannon.
Suprisingly he isn't irritated by him, but just simply takes care with him. He plays kind of big role for young Lloyd.
Kai is patience with him and tries to teach him and be nice. Maybe it'd somehow remind him of rising his younger sister(?) Kai would spend time with him, shove comfort and some support that he needed and just act like a Big Brother towards him.
Their relationship would be pretty strong.
There would happen at slightly little drama between Kai, Nya & Lloyd. [BUT NOTHING TOO SERIOUS]
Nya would be probably a little annoyed why her brother is so nice towards him. She'd be irrited since Lloyd recently just acted like a brat. (He mostly made pranks like making Zane's costume pink and ect.-) And she doesn't understand Kai's indifference towards it.
But everything would resolve, when Nya safed Lloyd from vulcano and unlocked her true potential.

Bla bla.. to lazy to write next seasons.. But basically Kai would be a big support as a red Samurai, Lloyd's role model and he'd slowly come closer to the other teammates.
He wouldn't be just fire ninjas brother, but feel more like a part of the group.
Then the situation with the ghost would happen.
Sensei Wu would tell him about his Water Powers and that's were everything starts to break.
Kai has to learn how control water.
But the point is that Kai hates water.
Kai can't swim, is afraid of drowning and basicly is aquafobic-
This is the time where he has to overcome his fear to safe everyone.
This is the time when everything that he belived turned into a lie. That%'s the time when his life turned upside down and just everything is a mess.
He tries to deny it. He doesn't belive in it. He hates it.
He hates water.
But in the end he begins his training, because the life of the loved one's is WAY more important.
He starts training with master Wu. Nothing goes well, because of his character that is a completely opposite to this power.
Moreover he got a few panic attacts while being in the deep water that doesn't end well.
Kai hates this power. He doens't accept it as his. He doesn't accept it being part of him. He's basically forced to learn it because of the situation and persuading the master.
But in the end his able to overcome it.
By the talk with someone he's able to see the source of his fear. He finally sees the beauty of his power.
He takes a deep breath and immerses himself in the water, clearing his mind and he's calm.
He's part of the water and water is part of him.
Kai accepts this part of him and is able to control it.

Absolutely I hope that I've demonstrated the true potential of this idea, and how it could indeed turn into something really cool.
AND I HAVEN'T EVEN CAME TO THE SEABOUND PART-
But seriously I hope that someone will notice it. A nice fic could come from it.
I also really tired not to add and lavashipping ideas here, because it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it could have been here something.
I don't know if I will ever write this or not. It's really hard to tell.
But if anyone wants to write this or something simliar to it then go on. I don't see a problem. The more us the better!

Scaramouche is the worst boss you've ever had. Well it is your first time being a secretary for a very large company and of course you plan to be on your best behavior and be a great role model for everyone.
Someone, however, stirs you from going down that path. How can a CEO be so obnoxious?? First, he makes you do most of his work for him. He would give you stacks of papers and expects you to finish it for him when he's the one who should be doing it. "Just stamp my authorization or something.  "Oh please, I’m always good at my own game.” He slaps down a few more files and reaches over to mess up your hair. “I expect you to get this done asap. It's for the conference tomorrow. Better get working, busy bee." He would smirk while he leaves you, huffing and turning red from frustration. 
Even when you’re very busy, he’ll still give you things to do. “Hey busy bee, my office is getting dirty. Sweep and mop it for me.”
“I’m not the janitor,” You would say with an attitude and roll your eyes. He’s always like this.
“I’m still your boss so you can either make you stay overtime or you clean,” He says and he doesn’t really mean it. You, however, were scared because he can and will do that. Honestly, what he wanted was to have you in his office and just look at you. You however, have been playing his game for too long and you plan to bite back.

Jack, was set to not be back home until late at night and found himself walking through their shared apartment front door at 1 pm, which took Y/N by surprise.
Y/N and Jack have been dating more a little more than a year now, and even though they were private about their relationship, Jack has made the public and fans know he was in a relationship with Y/N, who was a visual artist. Because of her anxiety, she wasn’t into the idea of being in the public eye, but she wanted to be in a relationship with Jack without feeling he was hiding her. And Jack was supportive of her, which is why since then for the first time he would let it be known he was with Y/N without getting into too many details about her life.
The news of Jack no longer being single came as a shock to everyone, given that to the public, he didn’t seem the type to be in a serious relationship, and with that came a lot of support and some hate.
Jack who was set to not be back from the studio until late at night, found himself walking through the front door of their shared apartment around 1 pm.
“Y/N?” he called out for her.
He could hear in the distance the sound of the tv, and as he approached the living room, he found Y/N wrapped in a throw blanket, lying on the couch scrolling through her phone while the TV played in the distance.

“I was, but I wanted to check on you” he paused. “Is she the same girl who kept running her mouth about you on Twitter?”
“How did you know about that?”
“Fans kept me posted”
“It’s so embarrassing…” she said looking away.
“You have nothing to be embarrassed about. None of the things she said were true”
“I know, but I just can't deal with the hate…I just don’t know how you do it sometimes”

Y/N looked at him confused.
“See it for yourself” he said as he handed her his phone.
Upon taking a look, she became overwhelmed by all the supportive comments from fans, and other celebrities standing up to her.

ARGYLE: The first day of tour was always like the first day of school and summer camp and vacation all put together but that very first tour was all of that times a thousand.
They had these buses that had the name of the band on one side and our faces on the other, man, like huge Argyle and Eddie and Nancy and everyone else, it was crazy. Jonathan bought his camera and he took photos of all of us next to our giant selves as the crew was loading up. I sent mine to my mom.
It was all good vibes at the beginning, everyone was so excited. Hopper even brought his kid. We didn’t know Hopper had a kid before that. We didn’t know a lot about Hopper, actually. But it was nice to have the kid around, kept us all on our best behaviors, well during the day anyway.

February 1984, On the Road: Upside Down Tour
“There’s no way my jaw is that crooked, Robin come look at the angle of Big Steve's jaw, will ya?”
“Shut up, Steve, Jonathan’s taking my picture with Big Robin, have someone else  measure the angle of your jaw!”
Steve turns imploringly to you and you can’t help but indulge him.  
“Your jaw looks fine, Steve, very symmetrical.”
“Eddie, man, if you stand right there, and kinda lean this way, it looks like you’re eating yourself!”
“Ah, that’s sick, Byers come here and take a picture of me eating myself when you’re done with Buckley!”
“Hey, no fair, we were next!”
“Worry about fixing your crooked jaw first, man.”
 “You said my jaw looked fine,” Steve turned towards you, accusingly.
“Hmmm, let me take a closer look,” you say, teasingly taking Steve’s face in your hands and making a big show of moving your gaze between the giant, two-dimensional Steve and the real Steve in front of you. You tilt his head one way, and then the next a few times over, pretending to be deep in thought.
“It looks fine,” you finally say, “no more crooked than the real thing.”
You punctuate your statement with a light tap on his cheek and he grins at you before coming to a realization.
“Are you saying my jaw is crooked?”
He chases you around the tour buses until you are both out of breath and then when Jonathan comes up to you, camera in hand, and the two of you pose stop to strike a pose that mirrors your giant selves, turned towards in each other, lips slightly pursed, as if preparing for a kiss. That kiss of course, never comes. 
Things have been like this between you and Steve since the press tour, warmer, affectionate even, but with the understanding that there was no deeper meaning behind the affection. You were simply doing your job. 
When Hopper is finally able to wrangle everyone onto their respective busses, you are already behind schedule. His threats don’t have their usual impact though, because even he’s been infected with the band’s giddiness at being on the road. 
You think you even see him smile when he introduces his daughter, a soft-spoken girl named Jane who immediately asks everyone to call her El and looks about 15.
Something about Hopper feeling comfortable enough to have his daughter join the tour made you feel like there was a huge responsibility on your shoulders to be a good role model—a feeling you’d never really had before.
There was a lot about being on tour that was strange and foreign in a way that was specific to you, like bunking with Nancy and Robin on the tour bus.
“It’ll be like a slumber party!” Robin exclaimed. You could see Nancy’s eyes go wide behind her at this, almost as if she’s questioning what she’s gotten herself into. 
“I’ve never been to a slumber party,” you tell them, unsure if your reaction should be more like Robin’s or Nancy’s.
“Well, we are honored to be your first,” Robin says as she bounces off her bunk to sit next to you, looping an arm through yours and leaning her head on your shoulder.

EDDIE: The first stop of the tour was San Francisco—we got there two days before the show and checked into a hotel that was  nice as fuck—well, compared to what I was used to, anyways— and they gave us all our own rooms down the hall from one another. I remember asking Wheeler if that was what college was like and she just laughed and said, “Kinda, but it smelled way worse.”
Everyone was so happy to be there, even me. It was a far cry from Corroded Coffin, sure. But at the end of the day, I was making music and even though I wasn’t really that close to the rest of the band, they were good people. Everyone respected each other and partied just the right amount. Wheeler did a good job of keeping us in line. Plus, we were still so wide-eyed and bushy-tailed, we hadn’t really fallen into our new old habits by then.

Once in the hotel, Hopper handed out room assignments and he even looking a bit apologetic when he lets you and Steve know that, at label’s request, you and Steve were assigned connecting rooms. 
You didn’t have it in you to let the fact that Starcourt was controlling where you slept get to you and instead decide to try an enjoy where you are. 
Nancy, who was as much of an older sister to the group as she was to her real family, had organized an evening of sightseeing for the band around the city during your first night there.
Walking through downtown, you had a hard time taking in the sites because you were too preoccupied watching Eddie. Eddie, who, from what little you knew of his past, never had the opportunity to travel, was like a child, taking in the sights, pointing to anything of interest, and excitedly exclaiming, “Can you believe that shit?” to anyone within earshot, including El and Hopper.
“You watch your mouth around my fucking kid, Munson,” Hopper had told him.
The entire drive to the Golden Gate Bridge he just kept saying “Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit,” like he could genuinely not contain his excitement.
It was oddly endearing.

February 4th, 1984, San Francisco, CA. The Upside Down Tour
The same lighthearted energy carried over to the next day’s soundcheck and until a few hours before the show when a cloud of nervous energy seemed to descend all at once.
The entire time you were in hair and makeup all you could think about was all the different ways the show could go wrong. Were you prepared enough? What if the audience was a dud? Could you keep them entertained for two hours? Each question wound you tighter and tighter until you could not think straight and by the time you were set to go backstage you had half-convinced yourself to call it all off. But you immediately sobered at the sight of the madness that had overtaken your bandmates backstage: Robin was pacing from one corner to the next, wringing her hands and muttering to herself in a language you weren’t completely sure was English; Jonathan and Nancy sat huddled together on the floor while Nancy recited the setlist over and over again like a prayer; Argyle was sitting by himself in a corner, tapping his drumsticks erratically against his knees with one hand while trying to braid his hair with the other; Eddie stood utterly stock still hold his guitar in front of him in an outstretched hand, talking to it like they were having a conversation; and worst of all, Steve was nowhere to be found. You looked around for Hopper, but he was also missing, so you went to the next best thing.
“Nancy, babe, look at me,” you say, kneeling next to her on the ground.
Her eyes bounce up to yours and in them, panic.
“Nancy,” you repeat her name again in a way that you hope is calming, “I know that you’re nervous, but I need you right now. Look around at the mess that everyone’s in. I need you to help me talk them down. I need you to make them believe it’s going to be fine. I need you to believe it’s going to be fine, okay? Because it will be. And because I can’t find Steve.” You say the last part low, in a meek attempt to mask the panic that is seeping into your tone. 
Nancy, who, as you had predicted, flourished in a crisis, hardens her jaw and narrows her eyes in focus.
“I’ll start with Jonathan and you go to Eddie, maybe we can get them to help us look for Steve in the bathrooms.”
You nod eagerly before making your way over to Eddie, who is still mid-conversation with his guitar. You approach slowly, careful not to spook him. 
“Hey, hello, I don’t mean to interrupt, but are you doing okay, Eddie?”
Eddie’s eyes snap to you like it’s the first time he’s noticed you were there.
“Who? Us? Yup, totally fine, just having a bit of a pep talk,” he says between haggard breaths. Where the hell is Hopper?
“Hm, yeah, see, the words that you’re saying and the way that you’re saying them lead me to believe that maybe you’re not fine,” you try to sound as gentle as you can when you say this and try not to flinch as Eddie turns to face you, his whole face taunt with fear.
“Well, it’s not like I’m not a total fraud and loser who completely blew it with his last band and is only part of this band because he sold his soul to an evil corporation that told the rest of you you had to let him play with you, right? Because then I would have reason to be nervous. Oh, wait—"
“Eddie,” you interrupt, reaching up to grasp his face in your hands, bringing him down to your eye level, “you’re being too hard on yourself right now, okay? You have earned your spot here just as much as anyone else in the band. You’re a great guitarist, and a great songwriter—almost as good as me—“ he lets out a breathless laugh”— and you’re gonna go on that stage tonight and be your usual talented self and blow their minds because you’re Eddie Fucking Munson, got it?”
“Got it,” he whispers, eyes blown wide, and at that moment you realize that you’re so close now your nose almost brushes up against his.
“Good,” you say, pealing your hands away from his face to fall at your sides.
“Now, do you want to do some deep breaths or do you think you’re good to go on?”
“I think I’m good,” he croaks out, still a bit out of focus, but much more mellow.
“Great. Now, can you please help us look for Steve? We can’t find him.”
“Steve?” Eddie repeats, eyes narrowing in confusion.
“Yeah, we can’t find him anywhere and everyone’s freaking out and Hopper’s not here either so Nancy and I were hoping you could help us by checking the bathrooms.”
“Right, Harrington, your boyfriend. The bathrooms, I’ll go check.”
You watch as he turns away and heads in the direction of the bathroom and try not to think about the way his shoulders dropped, the tiniest amount as he did.
Then, you turn your attention to the still-pacing Robin. “Robin, honey, can you please look at me?”

EDDIE: It was 20 minutes until the doors opened and Harrington was nowhere to be found. Jonathan and I checked all the bathrooms in the building and nothing. Finally, I got the bright idea to go out to the smoking area, not sure why, but, to my surprise there he was. I’m not going to lie, he looked a total mess: pacing back and forth, running his hands through his hair, muttering to himself.
I asked him what the hell he was doing there. He asked if he could bum a cigarette. I said, “Didn’t know you smoked, Harrington.” 
And he responded, “I don’t but the smell reminds me of my mom.” 
That’s when I knew the situation was grim—if someone shares information like that about a parent, unprovoked, they’re probably losing it. It was also at that point that I knew I was totally out of my depth. I had half a mind to turn around and go grab one of the girls or Jonathan, but I didn’t want him to run off on me again.
INTERVIEWER: So, what did you do?
EDDIE: I stayed and let him bum a cigarette. We stood there for a minute, smoking. The guy was coughing up a storm but he kept going. Harrington was always like that—just kept going no matter what. Eventually I just straight up asked him if he was nervous.
He responded with, “Theoretically, I’m not nervous at all, but in a much more, like real sense, I am shitting it, man.”
To this day, I don’t think he knows what the word ‘theoretical’ means.
I asked him what he had to be nervous about, it was just a show, and he was half of the reason people were there to see us, plus he was too talented to bomb. 
And then he looked at me with his big Harrington eyes and said, “I’m not worried about bombing I’m worried about everything else. Like, what if we get up there and we realize that everything we’ve given up, everything we’ve had to go through was for something mediocre and ordinary?”
I told him that was a stupid question and asked him what if it was the opposite. What if it was everything he had wanted? I mean he was halfway there already, right? He had the girl, the sold-out tour, it was only a matter of time before he had everything else he could’ve dreamed of. 
I thought I was being comforting but that only made him freak out more because then he said, “The more you have, the more you can lose and I don’t think I could handle losing any of this.” 
It took me a minute to respond because, I mean, on one hand, it was hard to sympathize with the guy who had everything I wanted and then some. On the other hand, though, I had been there. 
So, I told him about Chrissy and rehab and Corroded Coffin and that whole shit show.  Like a testimonial: “Local Fuck Up, Loses everything and somehow still keeps going!”  I didn’t hold back either, I told him how much it sucked to fall so far on your own.  I also told him that unlike me, he would never have to worry about that because he actually did have people looking out for him. That whole band was like his team, they wouldn’t let him fall like that, at least, not alone. 
Something I said must’ve resonated because he snapped out of it after that. We finished our cigarettes and we went inside. Right on time too, because Hopper was about to send out a manhunt for him.

There were 10 minutes until the doors opened and Steve was still missing, and now, Eddie was gone too. Your mind flits to the possibility that you’ll have to go one without both of your key guitarists  but even just the thought of that is too much to stomach.
Meanwhile, Hopper is back and yelling at everyone in the vicinity. 
Robin, who’s at your side as the entire scene unfold, pulls in closer to whisper in your ear, “what if they ran away together?”
And just as you were getting ready to turn and ask her exactly what had possessed her to ask such a thing the two missing members of your band burst through the door harried, out of breath, and smelling of smoke, to come face-to-face with their furious manager.
Hopper dismisses Eddie with a wave of his hand and then turns his ire towards Steve. 
“Thank you,” you whisper to Eddie as he makes his way to your side. You reach down and give his hand an appreciative squeeze for good measure.
“No problem,” he responds thickly, “couldn’t leave a queen without her king.” Something about his tone makes you wince.
After Steve had been properly chastised by Hopper, the stage manager calls for places and everyone begins to disperse.
You’re making your way towards the stage when Steve reaches out for your hand. “Hey, sorry about that,” he starts, “nerves got to me, I guess.”
“ You know you could’ve talked to us, right? We were all nervous, too. We could’ve been nervous together. We’re supposed to be a team, aren’t we?”
Steve looks more ashamed now than he did when Hopper was yelling at him. 
“You’re right,” he says, “I promise to do better. You’ve got me and I’ve got you.” 
You smile back. 
“I’ve got you and you’ve got me.” 
And suddenly, the curtain rises.

ARGYLE: That night in San Fran we were a mess  but then, you get us all on stage and it’s like none of that ever mattered. We were freaking rock stars, dude, and we were good too and I’m not just saying that because it was us— I would’ve been a fan even if I wasn’t in the band.
EDDIE: Yeah, we were all good, but what really brought people through the door was our lead singers. Them bouncing around on stage together, dancing and making eyes at each other—the audience loved it. They both knew how to play up to a crowd too. She would dance and move around the stage like a total natural—hot but not too hot, ya know? And Harrington had his cool guy act down pat. They were in total sync. It was like they belonged together.

Walking down the stage steps, your head was abuzz with the excitement and satisfaction.
The band had done a great job, even better than during rehearsal and the audience’s energy was addicting. 
This had been what you were looking for all along.
Backstage, you had made sure to give each one of them a hug, even Hopper— as a congratulation, as a thank you, as an expression of disbelief that you were finally here. They all understood and they all returned the sentiment. For the first time it felt that you were all on equal footing as members of the band. For the first time, it felt like you belonged and that was worth celebrating. 
Eddie’s the last one off stage, and for a moment you debate hugging him. You’re not too sure if he’d return the gesture, given your history. But to your surprise, his arms are already open and you fall into them. And then, he did something surprises you even further:  he pulled you close, picks you up, and spins you around in his arms.

February  28th,  1984, New Orleans, LA.  The Upside Down Tour
A few weeks into the tour,  Hopper pulls you and Eddie one morning while the rest of the band is off exploring the French Quarter.
“Hopper, can you do us a favor and let us know how long this’ll take? We’re supposed to get beg-nets with the gang today.”
“It’s pronounced ben-yays, Eddie,” you correct automatically as the two of you are ushered into the hotel room that doubled as your manager’s temporary office.
“Whatever it’s called, it’s fried dough with sugar and I refuse to miss that.”
“Can you two just sit down?” Hopper says exasperatedly motioning you two towards a couple of chairs that crowded his small, makeshift desk before sitting down himself and reaching for the phone. 
“I got them both here, Murray,” Hopper says gruffly as the crackle of the speakers fills the room.
Before Murray can fully greet you on the other line, Eddie interrupts. 
“Are we in trouble?”
“No. Should you be, Munson?“ 
“Murray, can we hurry this along? I’m taking my kid on a ghost tour.”
“Fine, fine, listen, kids, I just heard from Brenner and the Big Wigs—the rest of the tour is completely sold out which means that they want to start recording about five weeks after you get back from touring. This means we need songs by then and since you two wrote the best song on the last album, you’ve been promoted (with no pay) to main songwriters. So your homework is to get us at least 20 passable songs by the first week of July.”
“But we get back from tour in mid-June, Murray, that’s a really short turnaround time, don’t you think?” Your eyes dart to the other two in the room, to gauge their reactions.
Hopper shrugs, “Sometimes that’s just the way it is, kid.”
“Which is exactly why you two should start writing now while you’re on the road, trust me,” Murray’s voice crackles over the line.
You look at Eddie, who cocks an eyebrow at you as if he’s letting you know that it’s your call.
 “Okay, we’ll start writing as soon as possible,” you speak out loud.
“That’s what I like to hear! We can check back in once you get to LA.”
The three of you say your goodbyes and Hopper dismisses you and Eddie to join the others.
As the two of you walk down the hall towards the elevators, your mind is already bubbling over with ideas. This was your first big shot to do exactly what you’ve always wanted to do. This was more than just writing a few songs, it was about creating an album, and an image of where the band was going. This was huge.

EDDIE: To be honest I never really thought about my writing process. I would just pull out a notebook and a pen and start writing when I had something I thought was good—little bits here and there. She took everything so seriously though. The entire elevator ride down, she was talking my ear off about concepts and inspiration and “sonic vision”. Eventually, I just had to say, “Listen, why don’t we meet up in your hotel room after the show tonight and talk about it then?”

The rest of the day, it was like only part of your mind was present. The rest was floating around, thinking about what you wanted to write.
Of course, you had plenty of things written, but you weren’t sure if any of that would work. The next album needed to meet the rising momentum of the band’s popularity: it needed to be current but also true to where you were as a band. You needed to say the right things—and most importantly, you needed to say them in the right way.
Before you knew it, you were back in the hotel after soundcheck, freshly showered, standing in the threshold that connected Steve’s room to yours.
“Are you sure that’s how it’s  pronounced?” Steve's voice echoed from his bathroom, where he was brushing his teeth.
“I swear to you that it’s not pronounced Ee-too-fee, Steve. Why do you think the waiter laughed when you ordered?”
You come up behind him in the mirror running a brush through your still-wet hair.
“Because I’m naturally endearing and everything I say is charming,” he responds, catching your eye in the mirror.
“Whatever you say, Harrington.”
Before he can retort, a knock thunders through your room into his.
“Oh, that must be Eddie,” you say, turning on your heel to cross the threshold into your room.
“Munson?” Steve asks, befuddled.
“Yeah, he’s coming over to start writing some stuff. Murray’s on our case, remember?”
“Right, I just didn’t think you’d start tonight.”
You just shrug before disappearing into your room, “The sooner we get started, the sooner we finish.”
You don’t hear his response because you’re already at your door, swinging it open to reveal Eddie Munson standing in the hotel hallway, guitar case in one hand and beat-up notebook in the other.
“The Eagles?” He asked, eyeing the logon on the oversized t-shirt you wore.
You bristle as your fingers brush against your shirt suddenly self-conscious of the length.
His gaze follows the movement of your hand and then settles right where the hem of your shirt grazes your thigh.
It takes you a moment to find your voice. “What can I say? I’m a woman of taste.”

EDDIE: I became an Eagles fan after that night. 
***
You lead Eddie into your hotel room and gesture towards the small sofa in the corner for him to set his things down.
Before joining him, you peek into Steve’s room to see him fully peering through the door. “Night, Steve,” you say with a gentle wave as you move to close the door.
“Night,” he says back softly, his eyes bouncing from your face to the room behind you where Eddie was setting up his things.
“Night, Munson,” he says finally, voice a bit tighter. 
“Goodnight Sweet Prince,” Eddie waves theatrically as you close the door between the two rooms and walk over to sit by his side.
“You two always leave the door open?” he asks, fiddling with his guitar strings.
The question makes you feel defensive.
“Um, no, not always, we just, say goodnight, sometimes we will talk about the shows a bit before. bed.”
Eddie quips an eyebrow at this but says nothing.
 “Should we get started then?”

EDDIE: That was my first time writing with her. That was my first time writing with anyone else, honestly. She asked me a lot of questions: about what themes I wanted to include; what concepts I thought would fit; if I had seen any movies that I thought could be good inspiration. It felt like a job interview.
I could tell that she’d been thinking a lot about this, maybe too much, actually. So, I told her that maybe we just needed to slow down a little bit, talk about what we had first, and then go from there. She agreed, but she still seemed pretty wound up, so I suggested we bust open the mini bar and we drank for a bit. I think we were both a little nervous to share our songs. It’s something kinda personal, to share your art with someone, ya know? And it’s always worse when it’s someone you know in your regular life—it’s like someone slices you open and takes a walk around your brain but then you have to see them the next day at work or whatever and you have to pretend they haven’t just taken a tour of the best and worst parts of you. 
And it wasn’t like we were particularly close back then, so there was some extra nerves there. Hence, the liquid courage.

You and Eddie are about two (maybe three?) shooters in by the time you decide to get properly started.
Eddie volunteers his work for the two of you to go through first and you’re secretly grateful as he hands you his beat-up spiral notebook and you splay it across your lap to read over what he has. Eddie leans in to read too, and in doing so, his leg is flush against yours. He’s so close that his hair brushes against your cheek when he moves and you can smell him—earthy like pine and a tiny bit like menthol cigarettes.
You realize you might be a bit tipsier than you had thought because it takes extra effort to focus on the words in front of you.
His first few songs are good, but they don't match the vibe of the band.
"Too metal,” you say to him, pointing out the songs you’re referencing.
“Yeah, that makes sense, those were meant to be for my old band,” he responds.
You know enough about Eddie’s professional past to know that he used to be in a metal band before joining The Downsides and that it ended poorly, but not much else.
You flip through a few more pages before a few lines of lyrics catch your eye:
Don’t remember who I was then
Can’t keep straight where I was when
What’s my name? Where have I been?
Where did I start? Where does it end?
You’re the one thing I hold dear
The only thing that’s crystal clear
I live and die if you’re near
And all the scars disappears.
“This is something,” you hold the page up to Eddie.
He reads over the lines and grimaces.
“I wrote that right after I got out of rehab a few years ago. It didn’t really go anywhere...as you can see.”
This realization is sobering to hear. Mostly because it enlightens you to how little you know about your bandmate.  You spend a moment trying to categorize everything you know about Eddie and you come up sparse. You weren’t even entirely sure you knew how old he was. 
He seems to take your silence as you process this as judgment because you feel him scoot away, his face and body angled away from you.
You reach out and lay a hand on his arm, and he freezes.
“Thank you for sharing that with me,” you say slowly, before picking up his notebook again, this time with a newfound care.
“This,” you tap the lyrics, “doesn’t need to go anywhere. It can just stay here or wherever you want it to.”

EDDIE: It wasn’t the reaction I expected from her, but it was really nice to hear.

You and Eddie flip through the rest of your respective songs, not really finding anything that both of you can agree on. There are a few stray lines that jump out from both your books but beyond that, there was nothing the two of you could agree on. It was pretty clear that you were both writing songs for artists that you no longer were. 
Right around the third hour together, you both decide to call it a night, but only under the condition that the next time you meet, you’ll both have come with something brand new written.
“Hey, thanks for coming,” you say, voice hushed as you usher Eddie to the door, “and thanks for letting me read your work.”
He just smiles in response, wide and beautiful and rare. 
“Don’t worry, princess, we’ll get there. This was just a test run,” he reminds you. 
You watch him make his way down the hall    Until he disappears but not before throwing one last, rare, smile your way.  
Once Eddie is gone, you all but drag yourself to your bed, yearning for that special hotel-pillow softness when you hear another knock. This time, from the door connecting your room to Steve’s. 
“Steve,” you pull the door open, “why are you awake? It’s like 4 AM.”
 “Can’t sleep,” he mumbles. “Can I hang out with you for a bit?”
His eyes are barely open and his hair is disheveled beyond belief. He looks young standing there in his worn-out pajama pants.
“Fine,” you say as you turn back into your room, “but I’m getting into bed because I’m tired.”
He follows you into your room and shuts the door behind him. You make a beeline for your bed to slide under the covers and Steve, meanwhile moves towards the couch.
“Why can’t you sleep, Steve?” you ask, burrowing into your duvet, eyes already closed. 
“I dunno, can’t stop thinking.”
“Thinking? You don’t need to be doing that.”
By the time he responds, you’re already asleep.
When you wake up the next morning, Steve is still there, asleep strewn across the tiny couch, hair even wilder than the night before.

ARGYLE: Tour life was the best life. A new city every night, the music was good, the crowds were crazy and the drugs were plentiful. And the parties! My dude, the parties! After every show we’d end the night at some bar or club with the band, the crew and more groupies than a dude could ever want.

March 6th, 1984, Atlanta, GA. The Upside Down Tour
“You know, it’s not what you think.” Nancy’s voice can barely be heard over the sound of the thumping music of the basement bar that you’re in. 
“What?” You ask the keyboardist. 
She gestures subtly with a nod towards the corner that had been occupying your attention. Robin and Steve were huddled together in deep conversation, both leaning against the bar. A few spots away, Eddie sat with a pretty girl with locs. Over the last few minutes, you had watched as his hand made its way slowly up her thigh with an almost morbid sense of curiosity. 
Your eyes turn back to Nancy, unsure as to why she would weigh in on the flirtation between Eddie and the groupie. 
“Steve and Robin,” she elaborates, “I’ve seen you staring and I know what it looks like, but it’s not what you think. They’re close but just friends.”  
Oh. Steve and Robin. Right. 
“It doesn’t matter what they are and what I think of it, Nancy, because it’s none of my business,” you respond. 
She turns to face you, clearly ready to argue something back but you cut her off. 
“Where’s Jonathan? I haven’t seen him all night.” 
A grimace flashes across her face for brief moment, nearly imperceptible, but you catch it. 
”He’s back at the hotel room,” she replies tersely,  “on the phone with his mom. Will had another surgery today.” 
You wince. It was no secret that Jonathan‘s younger brother had fallen ill again. You had seen less and less of the bassist as the tour had progressed. He’d been spending any time that he wasn’t on stage trying to get ahold of his mom back home to ask about the progress of the youngest Byers boy.
You smile at Nancy in a way that you hope is reassuring and say, “Weren’t his chances of recovery high after his surgery, though?” 
Nancy exhaled deeply, “If everything goes well, then yes, chances of recovery are high.” 
She looks like she wants to say something more but cuts herself short. Her eyes float past you, to the newly appeared figure to your right. Steve. 
He smiles in greeting, his arm falling to graze in between your shoulder blades. His pupils are blown wide— a dead give away that he had partaken in whatever substance Argyle had been touting earlier in the evening.
Even high, he seemed to pick up on the serious mood between the two of you  and asks if everything is alright. You smile softly and nod, arm snaking around his back lightly. 
Nancy sighs in response. “We were just talking about Jonathan, actually I think I’m going to go check on him. Have a good night, you two,” she says and she looks at you and Steve, her eyes catching on the points where your bodies touch. 
As she pushes herself forward, ready to move towards the exit, Steve calls out after her.
The two of them lock eyes and they seem to be holding yet another silent conversation. While you can not decipher their secret language of raised eyebrows and scrunched noses, you can that they’re arguing about something and by the way their eyes keep bouncing to you, you can’t help but wonder if it’s you they’re arguing about and what you could’ve possible done to warrant that. 
Whatever their argument is about, it doesn’t seem to come to a resolution based on the way Nancy scoffs at Steve and rolls her eyes before bidding her final goodbye. 
“What was that all about?” You ask, when she’s finally out of sight.
“Nothing,” Steve says tightly, “Nance is trying to convince me she’s right about something that I knowshe’s wrong about and she won’t let it go.” 
This catches your attention. 
“Oh, yeah? And what possible could Nancy Wheeler be wrong about, pray tell,” you plea conspiratorially, turning fully to face him and drawing closer.
This leaves Steve gasping for words in a way that makes you wonder if he’s higher than you originally thought.
Before you can ask him if he’s alright, he  freezes as he spots something over your shoulder a weird expression taking over his face. You turn, following his line of sight to Robin locked in a very intimate embrace with the female bartender that was serving her and Steve earlier in the evening. The bartender leans upward to catch Robin’s lips and you hear Steve hiss, “Damn it,” under his breath. 
Of course, this must have been the thing that Steve and Nancy were arguing about. Steve and Robin must be in a fight. 
You scan back through your recent memories of them wondering if perhaps there had been signs of a growing rift that you may have missed but as far as you’d noticed things were normal between the two of them.
“Oh, Steve, I’m so sorry,” you sooth, finally turning back to face him.
“Don’t be, it’s only $50,” he dismisses with a wave of his hand. He must really be higher than you thought.
“What?” 
“The bet was only 50 bucks,” he explains, way too calm for someone who just saw the girl he’s in love with kissing another girl in a crowded bar. 
“I’m not sure I’m following,” you say slowly, before the realization dawns, “wait, is this some where sex thing the two of you do? Listen, as much as I like you both as friends and appreciate that you trust me with the details of your romantic relationship, we’re still, like, coworkers and I don’t really think I should be hearing what the two of you get up to intimately—“ 
“Woah, woah, woah, romantic relationship? Me and Robin are not in a romantic relationship and we definitely are not intimate in any sense of the word, and the fact that you think that makes me want to barf, actually. Why would you think that?” He asks, a wildness coloring his tone. 
“Well, you’re always together and you’re so close, and you’ve always been so secretive, sneaking around together and stuff,” you struggle to answer under his confused gaze. 
“No, we’re friends, capital ‘P’ platonic,” he explains, “always have been, always will.” He can clearly tell you’re still confused because he then begins to explain further, “ The bartender, and her have been flirting all night, but Robin was too chickenshit to make a move so I bet her $50 that she couldn’t get her phone number by the end of the night but it seems like she got more than just her phone number. Which I guess is a good thing because maybe now she’ll stop moping about that girl back in LA but it sucks that I’m out $50.” 
“Wait, Robin dates girls?” 
Steve winces, as if the realization of what he’s told you has just now hit him. 
“Sorry, that was not my information to reveal. Please, don’t mention it. Please. It’s not that Robin doesn’t trust you or like you it’s just that she’s trying to be extra careful about it. She doesn’t want it to get, you know, out out. Especially with all the new press we’re getting.”  
You nod back in understanding, “don’t worry, I won’t say anything. To anyone. I promise. I would never put Robin in that spot.” 
Relief immediately runs through Steve’s features.
“Although, if she wants to keep things under wraps,” you begin, glancing back to where Robin is still kissing the bartender, “maybe she doesn’t want to be making out with women in public?” 
Steve nods rapidly in response, “Yup, good call, we should take her back to the hotel.”
Rob proves to be a stubborn drunk, and it takes you and Steve about 20 minutes to cajole her out of the bartenders arms and into the back of a cab. 
She spend the entire ride back to the hotel going on and on about ”star-crossed  love” and the “malignant force is keeping her from her beloved disguising themselves as friends”. In response you simply nod along and  your hand up and down her back in a way that you hope is soothing. 
“At least you two have each other,” she says softly, patting your cheek as the cab slows to a stop in front of your downtown hotel.
Then, as she steps out onto  the sidewalk, her stance wavers and she leans in, essentially pinning you to the side of the cab. 
You think she might try to kiss you too, but instead she whispers, “Please be careful with his heart. Steve’s softer than you think, you know.”

It’s a joint effort between you and Steve to put Robin to bed. 
Makeup is gently removed, hair is pulled up, and pajamas put on, and a slumbering Robin is safely tucked into bed with a receipt with the bartender’s number and $50 bill placed on her nightstand, ready to greet her in the morning. 
“She’s gonna be so hung over tomorrow,” Steve remarks as the two of you amble down the hallway to your own rooms. 
“Does she always get like that when she drinks?” You ask. 
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know, all, Shakespearean and nonsensical? She was saying all sorts of weird things back there. I think she even thought we were together. Which is actually kinda funny considering early tonight I thought the two of you were together,” you chuckle at the irony. 
Steve, however, looks distraught at this observation. Suddenly, he stops in front of your rooms and turns to you. 
“Is that why you’ve been acting so distant with me, because you thought I was with Robin?” 
You blush. 
“Partially, sure,” you stutter, “it’s hard to pretend to date your bandmate when you think he’s in love with your other bandmate. But, I also think it’s good that we maintain a healthy distance.” 
“Why?” 
The severity in his voice when he asks that takes you by surprise. 
“Well, because it helps us remember that none of it’s really,” you admit, carefully. 
You struggle to meet Steve’s eyes when you say this because, while it’s a fact that your relationship is a farce, speaking that out loud feels particularly cruel. 
You catch the movement of his throat as he swallows thickly but you can’t brave a look at his face. 
When he finally speaks, his voice is unsteady, “If there was no Starcourt and no contract and you and I were just two normal people, would you want us to be real?” 
He sounds so scared you can’t help but reach out for him, trying to offer some comfort. He accepts your small hand in both of his, thumbs grazing the back of your hand with much more gentleness than you’ve ever been offered. Than you think you deserve. 
You can’t help but meet his gaze then, and the way he looks at you, vulnerable and hopeful is nearly too much to bear. 
“I don’t know,” you begin, tears building at your lash line, because you truly don’t.  
You think back, in earnest, to all you’ve come to learn about one another and how easy it is to be around him. You think about the way you find comfort in his touch and he in yours. And you think about the two of you performing and how every time you’re on stage with him, it feels like there’s no one else but you and Steve. 
The shrill ding of the elevator brings you crashing down to reality, to the dingy hotel hallway and the beautiful boy in front of you with the pleading eyes. 
Footsteps and giggles make echo down the hall, coming closer. Both you and Steve turn towards the noise, temporarily forgetting your very serious conversation. 
Suddenly, Eddie appears around the corner, the pretty girl from bar on his heels. 
He stops abruptly at the sight of you and Steve. You turn your face in the other direction, quickly. You don’t want him to see you in this state, teary and distressed, especially not while he’s with this beautiful stranger, so you hide yourself against Steve’s chest. 
There’s a terse quiet that follows while you’re sure Eddie assesses the situation. 
You can tell by the way Steve gently curls his arm around your shoulder that the two of them must be having some weird silent  standoff. 
“Wait,” you hear Eddie’s companion shrill, “are you Steve Harrington and—“
“Yes, that’s them, sweetheart, in the flesh,” Eddie cuts her off and you can hear them start moving down the hallway again, “How about we give the lovebirds their privacy and you and I pick up where we left off in the cab?” 
You listen to their footsteps growing fainter and fainter and when you’re sure it’s just you and Steve, you pull yourself out of his embrace, to face him once again.
“What I want doesn’t matter, Steve,” you admit, sadly, “not when everyone is depending on us fulfilling our contract.” 
He sighs, “I don’t understand why we can’t fulfill the contract while being together? Wouldn’t we be more believable if we didn’t have to pretend? If it was actually real?”
He didn’t get it. 
“Maybe, but what if things go badly? What if we’re happy for a little while but then we realize we can’t stand each other? Then what? We either break up the band or we are forced to keep pretending just like we are now but this time, we hate each other? ” 
You think of your parents and how they lived separate lives for as long as you could remember, speaking to each other only when absolutely necessary. You’re sure they didn’t intend to hate each other at first. 
“What if we find out we really like each other?” He argues back gently, “what if things work out great and we’re happy?” 
You wouldn’t know how to do that. No one ever taught you how to love without it hurting. 
“No,” you say, sadly shaking your head, “someone will just end up getting hurt.” 
Steve clutches your hand tighter, one final supplication. “If someone has to get hurt, I’ll make sure it’s me.” 
Full tears are streaming down your face now as you gently pull your hand out of Steve’s grasp. 
“That’s what I’m afraid of,” you tell him, turning away from him while you still can, leaving him standing alone in the hall.

idk I'm just thinking out loud about some moments in this first half of HDD 2024, specifically the dreams that Simeon, Diavolo and Barbatos have of their ideal futures.

Simeon's dream future seems to surprise and maybe even unnerve him a bit, and he acknowledges seeing "the shadow of Lord Diavolo's influence" in his own dreams. And then kind of politely shuts down MC asking about it or any further conversation in that sly angelic way he has of sidestepping the real question and nudging the topic along.
I feel like it's just such a cool fucking moment of foreshadowing and Simeon sort of-- seeing himself through Lucifer in that moment as well? Simeon mentions in OG Season 3 when we visit the Celestial Realm in the Fae trickery that Lucifer was already at that time starting to doubt, starting to question, on the path to falling because of his time spent with Diavolo. Because Diavolo's dreams and goals were starting to taint Lucifer's angelic unquestioning. Because Diavolo's influence was growing within him.
And now Simeon sees proof that Diavolo's dreams and influence are growing in him, too. That his ideals are starting to mimic Diavolo's. And he realizes in that moment that, oh. So this is what Lucifer felt too, then. It wasn't one sudden change, it wasn't any noticeable influence that showed up overtly, but it's just that little festering beneath that makes you question Father's designs. He finds himself wanting free travel between the realms, including the brothers' ability to visit and return. He wants to "bring about the dawn of a new era" together. And that scares him.
It's not a bad dream at all. But it isn't an angel's.

And then you have Diavolo and Barbatos, and I don't have a full thought formed on them yet but there's something there about how their futures are simultaneously two sides of the same coin and also complete opposite goals?
Diavolo dreams of RAD's exchange program growing to a huge success, angels and humans aplenty visiting and studying and thriving alongside the demons there. He's in his RAD uniform, the music is upbeat and happy, he wants to take time to relax with MC later. He's thrilled at the idea of a future when peace between the realms is so close and clear and attainable.
Barbatos dreams of Diavolo as king. Diavolo on a throne, in demon form, referred to as "Your Majesty" and with more mysterious music playing. He's happy to serve "a model ruler" and is proud of Diavolo leading the Devildom. He looks forward to seeing Diavolo fill that role in reality in due course.
And both things can simultaneously be true. Diavolo is, after all, the de facto ruler of the Devildom while also overseeing his academy and exchange program currently. He is both the work-avoidant goober and the serious powerful leader. But it's just somehow interesting to me the way the two futures they see focus on one facet of who Diavolo is and what he's destined for.
Something something can't have it all something something something. 🤷‍♀️

Out of all the parties I've adventured with, this might be the party most suited to taking care of and providing adequate role models for a growing child. We can be a little silly at times but everyone here has their shit together pretty well.
It's almost like we're at the Final Dungeon and everyone's undergone their full stretch of character development already.

I mean. I come from an eventful but delicious home, where the food is amazing every night but also we have a lot of family emergencies and crises and insecurities to worry about. I would kill to reach a point of boring-but-delicious stability.
Don't knock it, Bonnie. I know you're still young and the idea of a tumultuous future sounds exciting, but as you get older, you reach a point where you just want a warm hearth, a nice roof over your head, and a soothing plate of orange-flavored cinnamon rolls.
Tolkien was right. Boring but delicious is the domestic ideal.

It's a day can't stand
Summery: You are dragged to the Hellfire club by your little brother, and you meet the one who will change your life (although you don't know it yet).
Contains: Dustin trying to help his sister, Eddie in DM mode, overthinking reader.

Note: i kinda had a writer block, so I don't know how this turned out.

Your brother had been insisting for several days that you accompany him to his weekly DnD meeting, saying that you couldn't keep being locked in your room and feeling sorry for yourself. He was really worried about you, you could hear it in his voice. And this is why you find yourself now walking through the halls of Hawkins High after two years on your way to the drama room, just as awful as you remember. And as you neared the drama room you could already hear him inside, putting on that theatrical DM voice of his while clearly lecturing the other kids.
Dustin haven't stopped talking about him since you came back, telling you how amazing he was. Edward Munson, his DM, and his new role-model (and you just knew Harrington wouldn't be fond of this). You were in the same generation as him during high school, Higgins tried to get him to drop out several times, everyone believed him and his friends were satanic cause they had "weird" tastes and for being obnoxious. And he didn't graduated with the rest of your class.
Dustin slid open the door and Eddie's gaze lifted and caught yours, brows raising in brief surprise, but continued his dramatics as if to not lose his crowd. Well, as long as he left you out of it you'd survive this one meeting, for Dustin's sake.
For now, you steeled yourself and slipped into the room, keeping your guard up as the game began anew.

During the campaign Eddie didn't pay much attention to your presence, a small welcome and a "don't interrupt the flow of the session" was all he said to you, taking his Master role a-little-too serious, not that you cared.
The session went on for a couple of hours, with Dustin and the others fully immersed in Eddie's storytelling. You had to admit, he was good at what he did. Though you kept to yourself in the corner, observing more than participating, you found yourself getting pulled into the fantasy world despite your initial reluctance.
Finally the sesion came to an end, and taking the opportunity, Dustin bounded over to you excitedly. "So what do you think so far, sis? Eddie's campaign is super cool, right?"
You gave a noncommittal shrug. "It's not bad, I guess. Your DM certainly knows how to weave a tale."
Suddenly Eddie was by your side, believing it was the reasonable thing to do to finally go talk to you. "Henderson The First, Thought you were gonna out of this shit-hole forever."
He has this smile in his face that's so warm, like his teasing wasn't in a rude way. And it made your tummy turn a little bit.
"Munson. Long-time no-see." You smiled back.
"Indeed. What brings you here this fine evening?"
"I'm staying here for a while, and Dustin wanted me to check out Hellfire. Didn't knew you still run the club."
"Yeah, I just couldn't abandon my sheep, y'know?"
You gave him an awkward laugh.
"and... How's Veronica?"
You ask, just to continue the smalltalk. She was Eddie's best friend since they were 8, attached to the hip, and they basically looked like twins, too.
You and Veronica Ecker shared a few classes in your senior year, and although you weren't friends at all, you were both said to be "Hawkins' success story"; The 'They will leave this nothing town in the middle of nowhere to go to the big city and have a successful life, because they made the effort, because they deserve it.'
At least she could keep that title.
Stop overthinking.
"Ronnie," he said almost as a correction - 's still in New York, haven't talk to her in a while" the change in his tone was so obvious in made you feel like and idiot. Of course he hadn't talk to her. Idiot.
"Oh..." Was all that left your lips, and thank God your brother got your anxious vibe, cause he said the good-byes for the both of you and led you outside.

Dawner the Hero Looking For "Dee", His Reason For Taking Too Long In His Journey, And Finding "Her" (Compilation)
I normally don't do posts for another ship, but it's been a little over a year and this one amuses me as I've never expected this one. Anyhow, moving on.

Ch. 166 extra: When I first saw this, I was pretty confused since isn't this obviously about Princess Syalis (Suya) as she's the Princess he has to "rescue" and his fiancée? But then, the subtle details came up...

Ch. 232: (I used the KC version because Viz is up to latest chapter and Dawner implying he recognizes Twilight's voice is confusing for other chapters) This is when Twilight has deaged from using his final form for Homeless Arc and went to check up on the Hero Party. This scene has me confused because it's one thing to say kid Twilight's voice is cute, but it's another thing for Dawner to say that he sounds familiar... unless there's something more to it?

Ch. 238: (I used KC again because something tells me that Dawner and Suya may not be not engaged. Hope this gets answers in a future chapter) I initially thought of not bringing up this chapter but from Dawner's conversation with Kisho, he doesn't look romantically interested in Suya and only looks up to her as a role model. Not to mention, he doesn't seem to be prioritizing his mission to rescue Suya. And take note his reactions here (as well as when he met Suya in her dreams) to how he reacts when he reunites with "Dee".

Ch 257: And here's the big reveal that I never expected.

Looking at this chapter now, despite Twilight distorting Hee's (Dawner) memories and making it seem like a dream. I can't believe Dawner is chasing after a "dream" for so long and this goes back to the extra from 166 which shows how persistent Dawner is to finding that special someone.

Ch. 316: If you compare his reunion with Dee to him meeting Suya in her dreams, it's night and day. It's as if the light has returned in his eyes when finding Dee again and that "she's" actually real and not a dream.

Look at the way Dawner looks at Dee, that blushing, and that desperate grip on "her", he didn't even act this way towards Suya. He must feel strongly towards Dee despite the short time they have together when they were kids. And that asking, Dawner is one not to be shaken or nervous.

And his blushing at Dee gets even bigger and he brings up the cute voice which is one of the most precious attributes he's remembered of Dee. I think Dawner's being genuine and serious about their reunion, but this comes off as something else to Dee (Twilight).

Something tells me from this scene that it's not just Dawner being terrible with directions, but also him sidetracking to prioritize finding Dee along the way. If rescuing Suya is his duty and an official responsibility as the Hero (and her fiancé (?)), then finding Dee even if "she's" possibly from his dream is something personal and important to him.

Trigun Stampede Character Thoughts: Vash
I've been putting off this write-up since I finished the show if for no other reason than whenever I go to analyze this funky little dude my entire brain just stalls and goes

✨ Hi, Vash. Hi. :) ✨
...anyways.
Here's a quick collection of thoughts on him now that I am finally more coherent! The hardest part of this was trying to make something readable with the sheer amount of things I could say about him. Geez.
(Please note that I have only watched Trigun Stampede! As of this moment, I am starting the manga and have not seen 98 Trigun. I thought it might be interesting to compare and contrast once I've read the manga. Bear with me in the meantime!)
Right off the bat, the show introduces us to who Vash is as a character - a pacifistic gunman who, while incredibly skilled, avoids confrontation when at all possible. When Meryl accuses him of running away out of fear, it's pretty quickly made apparent that, while it is out of some semblance of fear, it is not fear for himself. Rather, his concerns lie with other people's well-being first and foremost.
Or, really, his concerns lie near completely with other people's well-being. What happens to him is of very little consequence if it means everyone else is okay.
I want to talk about three different things when it comes to Vash, namely:
His incredible skill and competence
His terrible self-image
His solidly held pacifistic convictions
Skill and Competence
Ohhhh ok. So, I can't really comment on exact positions or maneuvers (I used to do martial arts pretty extensively, but it's obviously not the same kind and I know absolutely nothing about guns or marksmanship sorry), but I can sure tell you that I loved the way the animators had Vash move in episode 1 right before he pulls out his gun for the first time. I wish I knew how to make gifs properly because I would totally make one of that part. Even before Roberto's line that "acting brave is foolish" and "he's not long for this world" had finished, I was already convinced of the exact opposite. As someone who's done martial arts. Guys. The way he moves here.

It's a three step movement - he steps to the right, then to the left in an almost meandering way, shifting his body weight as he goes, before he grounds himself in a wide stance. It's slow, fluid, and calculated - a distinct contrast from his often jerky, exaggerated motions that we saw earlier. God I wish I had a gif. I don't think I can simply explain how insane it makes me. The animators could've just had him approach directly or run up to it - a lot of the times, with action heroes, there's a lot of flashy motion or jumping around, etc., which looks cool but isn't exactly something to be role modelling in an actual fight lol. But here? In the next episode, Nebraska mockingly says "this isn't the ballet" with regards to the dodging and spinning Vash does, but a lot of his motions... really are dance-like. He's damn near effortlessly shifting his center of gravity while remaining fluid in motion and completely balanced. No novice moves like that. He clearly has a lot of experience. For me watching, Roberto's line was refuted before he even finished it.
...which of course makes it even funnier when he realizes he's out of bullets. Oh, buddy. You looked so cool for a second there. Hjhdfnv
Really though, pay attention to the way he moves while fighting or shooting. He's always well-grounded, and the more serious the situation, the more fluidly and less exaggeratedly he moves. It's so, so cool. I don't know if I've quite seen that kind of motion in animation before, especially cgi (though it is possible I just haven't seen enough too...hehe...).

The episode 12 fight too! Again, Vash is balanced, even as he's being knocked backwards. He falls correctly, and allows his body to move with the gun. All his motions are precise and fluid. Contrast that to Nai, who is, uh... totally unbalanced lmao.
And then the way he tucks before he jumps out the window! The animation actually convinced me of this guy's over 100 years of experience. I actually believe it.
What's nice is that Vash, too, is aware of his own skill. He moves with a lot of confidence, and he clearly has a great degree of trust in his own ability to fight and shoot without seriously harming anyone - not once does he show the slightest bit of doubt in his abilities. One might expect, given Vash's refusal to kill, that he might be worried about accidental injuries when in the middle of a gunfight - but he isn't. Ever. The only way I can interpret this is complete confidence in his own abilities, and he most likely trained hard to specifically ensure that this would never be a concern. The trope of "character who doesn't want to fight or hurt people turns out to be really insanely skilled/strong" is always cool and fun, but in this context it's really a neat take on it, since I feel it is only because he refuses to kill that he intentionally developed such god-tier level marksmanship - I am going to go out on a limb here and assume it is much easier to accidentally inflict serious injury with a gun than it is to actively avoid doing so lol. He probably worked at being a really good fighter and gunman specifically so he could avoid killing.
I also find it kind of refreshing that he never calls his skills into question, since that does tend to happen with characters who have a poor self-image or low esteem. Which, uh, takes me to the next point.
Self-Image
Yeah, Vash's self-image is kind of in the gutter. He places the blame for all the tragedies that follow him on himself, despite the fact that he always puts in his full effort to prevent them from happening.
The majority of this ties back to his feelings of culpability for the fall. I want to direct your attention to the scene where Vash is digging the tally marks into the wall in episode 8 - it can't possibly be the number of days that have passed since we see the transition of the sun only twice and Brad looks shocked when he sees the all the tallies (which he wouldn't be if they had been there for that many days). With the way Vash's tallies look a bit like crosses and the fact that he greeted the people in cryosleep on Ship 5 by name in the first episode, suffice to say, he is probably making a tally of all the people who didn't make it through the crash - people whose deaths he feels personally responsible for.

Really, I wouldn't consider Vash even remotely responsible for any of that - he had the access codes but like. Zero intent or knowledge of what Nai was about to do with them. Regardless, Vash carries the guilt from it in the way Nai won't, because in his mind, someone needs to take accountability. Also important to remember is that the only reason any human being still lives on No Man's Land is because of Rem's sacrifice. Vash needs to maintain his belief in the capacity for human kindness and his no-killing code, because if he doesn't, her sacrifice would be in vain. He keeps her values and beliefs alive. She's in everything he does. Even hollowed out and stripped of his memories and identity, the mass of roots and flowers that engulf July take on her likeness.

So, really, in addition to Vash just being a generally compassionate soul, his staunch pacifism is a refusal to betray her beliefs and let his mother figure die a second time. I need to fucking lie down.
With all this strain he puts on himself, it's really not surprising that when tragedy inevitably strikes, he is very hard on himself, and from what we've seen this actually manifests in a set of consistent self-punishing behaviours - I am of course referring to episode 3's "I don't deserve to cry" and his refusal to eat in episode 4 (despite apparently needing to, unlike Nai). This is very similar to what we see in episode 8 with him as a kid, where he goes somewhat blank (no crying, no anger, all his negativity directed inwards and at himself) and refusing all food except what little he needs to survive because "it's a waste".
The worst part of this though, to me, is that we see from certain throwaway bits ("one bullet is two slices of pizza/two dozen donuts!", his kid self's eagerness at the sight of the birthday cake and the spread of food, his first question on seeing the geranium being to wonder if it is edible) that he not only needs to eat but also seems to enjoy eating - so his refusal to eat is not only a denial of a basic necessity but also of one of the few things he genuinely likes that he will allow himself to partake in. In the context of Rem framing food as something to share with everyone, it also makes me wonder if his self-denial is something along the lines of "I don't deserve to share this with them". In that sense, it's really important that Luida echoes a similar sentiment as Rem (implying she wants to share this food/include him, and that some of Rem's views survive in these remaining people).
I do wonder if, because food is associated with sharing to him, that it has something to do with needing to "earn a place at the table" in a way. While I think Luida was trying her best to juggle a lot on Ship 3 behind the scenes after the fall and clearly didn't want to keep Vash locked up like that, the crew only started treating him better and trusting him after he found a way to help them. The unfortunate view that Vash receives then is: "I need to earn their trust by being helpful." Vash is a chronic people pleaser - I can't think of a single point where he does something solely for his own benefit. He has no desire to scare or harm anyone (quite the opposite!) so he goes out of his way to be as helpful and non-threatening as possible - hiding his true nature as a Plant (to such an extent that he doesn't know anything about his powers and has effectively sealed them away - he's practically human), masking his facial expressions by cleverly hiding his face or letting the light reflect off his glasses, trying to laugh off his competence as luck and his scars as embarrassing.
Is it because he doesn't want to scare people? Is it because he doesn't want to feel othered from them? It's hard to say. It's probably a bit of both.
Nai accuses Vash of loneliness and desiring love, and of seeking to fill that gap by appeasing humans. While I don't think this is necessarily wrong, it can't possibly be accurate as a core motivation, since Vash doesn't seem to really... accept a lot of positive interaction. Whether out of concern for others' safety, a lack of feeling like he deserves it, being secretive about his past and identity, or some combination of the above, Vash tends to leave a lot. He leaves Jeneora Rock's celebration early, tries to walk away from Meryl even as she's calling out to him, runs away from Home when Brad and Luida listen to the recording. He throws walls up and distances himself by laughing things off, or smiling, or simply not explaining anything.

I mentioned this during my live blogging while watching episode 9, but as Independents, it's intriguing to me that both Vash and Nai exist outside the cycle of dependence we see between the Plants and the humans - both of which cannot survive without the other. Nai appears to revel in this detachment, but Vash also seems to self-impose a certain distance between himself and everyone else - for all his friendliness and inability to leave someone hanging who needs help, he practices a lot of recognizably avoidant strategies. He exists on the periphery, never staying in one place too long (he can't), and treating every interaction with a certain kind of resignation - an understanding that it is temporary. He seems to expect the inevitability of being chased out over and over. The slightest of kindnesses given to him he always feels incredibly grateful for. Perhaps he feels that kindness is more than he deserves.
I honestly dread to think how he'll react once he regains his memories of what happened to July. I trust that he'll keep pushing on, as he always does, but is he going to remember that he deserves to eat and smile?
I really hope so. Otherwise I will need Meryl and Wolfwood to bonk him on the head.
Pacifism and Conviction
The thing about Vash's pacifism is that it's very difficult to tell whether it is primarily motivated by love or guilt. Vash carries an incredible amount of survivor's guilt with him and he absolutely is doing his best to keep Rem's memory alive, but I don't think it can be denied that he isn't just acting out Rem's beliefs - he really does believe in them himself. He's also genuinely compassionate and does care and become invested in the well-being of others. In the end, I'm not sure it really matters. I don't think the guilt or love can be easily extricated from each other at this point; they are both powerful drivers of his actions and core to his identity as a person, and while this is not exactly ideal for getting him to be kind to himself, they both strongly feed into his continuous choice to be kind to others.

And it is a choice, not naivety, as pacifism is so often brushed off as. Vash's compassion is something he chooses over and over again, in spite of the way he is often treated, and the way his powers hold far more potential for destruction than even Knives. Wolfwood thinks that Vash doesn't understand harsh realities and is going to receive a rude awakening but he does understand - Vash just chooses not to accept violence as the only way forward and believes that things can change and improve, and is willing to expend that energy and extra hurt into making that a reality. Nai thinks Vash is helpless and brainwashed into his belief - note the way Vash frequently appears as his child self when Nai tampers with his Gate or his memories; the implication here is that Nai sees Vash as incapable of making choices for himself and in need of protection - but not only is this horribly demeaning to Vash's personhood, it simply isn't true. Even Meryl chews him out for what looked like running away to her early on, and Roberto thinks he's going to get himself killed sooner or later. Everyone underestimates Vash, at least at first. And well, it's easy to. He's just a silly little guy! He's a bleeding heart who tries to help everyone he comes across! He talks about nobody needing to die in a world where most everyone is starving and desperate! To the people in-universe, he would look like a total fool, and far too idealistic to last long.
Except, he has. He's around 150 years old, he's scarred to hell and back, but he's still alive and he still chooses kindness. That takes a special kind of improbable mental resilience and stubborn conviction - and that's what most of the other characters overlook. Vash is, indeed, very sensitive and emotional and an idealist - he's also much tougher and more rational than hardly anyone gives him credit for. He's an excellent judge of character too!
His ideals and that stubborn faith are everything that makes Vash who he is.

This scene in episode 12 is the only true moment of triumph in what is otherwise a tragedy all around. Nai would go as far as to destroy Vash’s very identity to get his brother back, but at the cost of losing everything that makes him Vash. These ideals are the core of “Vash the Stampede”, and no matter how foolish they may seem or how little others understand his conviction, this is an identity he has chosen for himself. It’s who he is. And this assertion, coming directly on the heels of Nai trying to erase him and remove that autonomy, is an undeniable brief triumph in the midst of it all. Nai will always be Vash’s brother, and he will always love him I’m sure, but they diverged in their persons a long, long time ago, and Vash adamantly refuses to be an extension of or accomplice to his brother’s crusade of hatred… even if that means going against him.
Vash’s kindness is so necessary to a world like the one we see in the series, on the verge of extinction and giving up. Approaching situations with understanding and communication is really the only way to help improve understanding amongst others - and this is one of his biggest strengths; it's even reflected in his use of his Plant abilities (communicating between himself and the other Plants, the way he can open a path both to and from the higher dimension unlike anyone else). In this way, Vash is something of a necessary conduit. I just wish he'd let himself feel a little more tbh. He represses a lot - he canonically won't allow himself to cry if he feels responsible, any flashes of anger are brief, he doesn't stick around to have fun really. Personally, I'd like to see him allow himself grief through tears, a little bit of genuine letting loose and celebrating, and actually expressing things like irritation and annoyance next season. Perhaps that's wishful thinking.
I don't know how to accurately summarize my thoughts on Vash well enough other than to say, in keeping with the whole Plant thing, he reminds me strongly of dandelions. Bright, cheery, grow through cracks and root where you don't expect them to ever be able to eke out a living. Regarded as a weed by many but very difficult to get rid of. Hardy, resilient, and pop back up after being beaten down. Kids make wishes on them.

okay listen Aziraphale has basically NOTHING in common with Elle Woods aesthetically but besides that minor detail a Legally Blonde (specifically: The Musical au) would be PERFECT for Good Omens/Ineffable Husbands????
And I wanna make a distinction right off the bat - if we went by the movie, Crowley would proooobably be the only one who really fits Elle because she's the only one with a real fish out of water narrative. HOWEVER. Musical!Elle is more overtly like... fish out of water but still with some safety nets (ha) to fall back on, which are highlighted within the story. And meanwhile Emmett gets his own fish out of water story with the specific focus on his comparatively underprivileged background, and when you put those two together, Crowley feels a lot more Emmett to me.
Like, Aziraphale has the two key Elle qualities of a) lots of shit going unexamined because he's never truly lacked power/privilege before, and b) belligerent determination to do the right thing even when people are telling him it will cause him personal detriment. Crowley's whole dynamic with Aziraphale in the Job and Resurrectionist minisodes is basically just Emmett in Chip On My Shoulder if you swap 'navigating the heaven/hell dichotomy' with 'navigating law school.' GABRIEL IS A DEAD RINGER FOR WARNER. THE METATRON WOULD BE CALLAHAN. Serious and Blood In The Water fit them both so well post-s2 I'm just [clutches face] (the reprise for Serious is probably even more fitting for Gabriel than the initial version tbh).
Also, What You Want is just concentrated Aziraphale energy imo - "So! I will get into Harvard, impress Gabriel, win him back, and then marry him! Wait, you really think I need more of a plan than that? Can't I just... charge ahead and do it anyway?" In some ways I think I like this AU because it's effectively Aziraphale walking up to Crowley and going 'god says it's MY turn to be the absolute hot mess'
Beelzebub can a) be Vivian and b) stay together with Gabriel at the end, as a treat for Gabriel (Gabriel still drops out to become a model). This is partly because I find the idea of Beelzebub becoming Aziraphale's personal cheerleader towards the end fuckin delightful. The Brooke thing feels like it would take some finagling but I am confident it can be wrangled into a good shape with the right choice of characters (Harriet Dowling is legitimately a frontrunner right now but I think that could very easily change).
I can think of multiple directions in which to approach the Paulette and Kyle subplot, and honestly multiple couples who would fit if you changed up the surrounding circumstances a bit? I like the idea of Nina and Maggie in a very drifted version, maybe where they both still own their canon businesses, because then TECHNICALLY Nina as the one with the horrible ex would be Paulette, and it would be fun to switch around who is hopelessly pining after who!!
I am also playing around with Delta Nu roles BUT I know in my soul that Muriel is Margot if only because then they get her line like "Keep it positiiiiiive~ As you slap [them] to the floor! :D" Please take a moment to imagine Muriel singing that in full earnestness, it's a delight.
(And having decided this I kind of want the frat boys from the bit in What You Want to just be like... multiple Erics).
These are the edges of the idea, where stitching it together into something coherent starts to get a bit shaky, but at its core is Ineffable Husbands content along such lines as!
Crowley getting Emmett's little moment of delight at the end of Chip On My Shoulder when Aziraphale makes his first successful argument in class! ('Fell' rhymes with 'Elle' we can get some scansion going here with 'little Miss Woods comma Elle' I know it)
For that matter, the "Where are your law books?" bit in Chip On My Shoulder would be extremely funny if Aziraphale's dorm room is just the bookshop in miniature, and then still under all of that the textbooks are plastic wrapped and completely buried and unread becase they simply do not interest him the way an antique bible does.
Aziraphale in the playboy bunny costume and Crowley doing the "What's up?" [excruciating pause] "... Doc?"
The proposal right at the end where Crowley gets the repeated little 'oh my god's!
So many things about Take It Like A Man!
"Swallow your pride for me, just nod yes" is just such an Aziraphale @ Crowley line, generally.
THE CHORUS "Here you'll become what you're supposed to be/You think you can't but you can/Think of the guy you want most to be/Here's your chance to make it..." I will FIGHT people on how much this fits, Aziraphale has always wanted Crowley to have a place where he can inhabit the wants-to-do-good parts of his personality without fear or punishment, which Crowley is convinced he cannot have. This is the same idea!! (And in this AU, a more seamless role in the establishment is... legitimately the best that Aziraphale has the power to offer Crowley, tbh).
"Why can I never say no to her?" is basically just Crowley's canon inner monologue, c'mon.
"That's the best part/The outside is new/But now it reflects what's already in you/Couldn't change that if I wanted to" Again, I am prepared to Fight about this being a brilliant fit.
And then finally with this song, "Don't watch me change!" would have added embarrassed Crowley Noises which is wonderful to think about.
AND!!! The part of this whole stupid concept that so deeply compels me!!!!!
The duet part of the title song from either side of the door!!

I would love to know more about your thoughts on the Danish Royal Family. Is it that you dont like Margrethe or Fred or you are neutral?
I'm not sure what prompted this but thank you for the ask, nonnie! The easy answer is that I'm Swedish & it's in the DNA of Swedes & Danes to hate one another. There, ask answered!
Okay, no, to be serious. There is this joke amongst the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Åland, Iceland, Faroe Islands & Greenland) that Denmark is the USA of the Nordics & among the Scandinavian royals (Sweden, Norway & Denmark), the Danish have always been my least favourites. I'll post a deeper discussion around my thoughts under the cut & people; remember that these are my personal opinions. I'm not talking facts or trying to be objective here.
Not just the fact that they've done some questionable things (the same could be said for many of the European royals), but it has always struck me weird how borderline worshipped the Danish royals are - especially Margrethe & Mary. It reminds me a bit of the stan culture around some singers & bands where the fans don't simply like the person; they adore them & to the level where you're not even allowed to criticise the person. Then we have Margrethe's approval rating - in a democratic country (Denmark) & its territories (Greenland & Faroe Islands), there is no way someone can continuously have around 80% or higher approval rating.
Up to 2022, I didn't necessarily dislike them & I had no personal issue with Margrethe. The Danish royals weren't my cup of tea, but I found Margrethe very cool as a person & I still do to some extent. There was this public narrative of Frederik, the golden boy, Mary, who could do nothing wrong & Joachim having difficulty finding his role & purpose in the family. As someone who has grown up with Nordic tabloid culture, I assumed it was a Victoria vs. Madeleine situation where the tabloids make a hen out of a feather & try to create drama where there is none. Then that statement around the titles of Joachim's children was published & all the puzzle pieces came together for me...
Now I've seen a lot of people here on Tumblr point towards Nikolai & claim it's all his fault. But that guy has been working as a model under the name of Prince Nikolai since at least 2018. Maybe even earlier, I can't remember. But anyway, the only time his grandma told him off was when he was doing ad work for some car brand & used his royal title. If his modelling career was the problem, Margrethe would have done something years ago & not suddenly, out of the blue, make a decision in autumn 2022.
No, for me, the puzzle pieces all fell together. Joachim struggling to find his place within the Royal House & no one really helping him carve out a position for himself; it being public knowledge that Margrethe favoured his first wife; Marie saying that it wasn't her or Joachim's choice to move to Paris & they weren't happy about it; Marie being painted as the bitter step-mother who wouldn't allow Nikolai & Felix to be with their father & instead, they were kept close to their grandmother; & yeah, the car crash that was Margrethe stripping Joachim's children of their titles a.k.a. she legally changed her grandchildren's names behind their backs without talking to them about it. These are just some instances from the last couple of years that were at the top of my mind.
I've mentioned it in messages to @cambridgemadness @lizisanamimal & @world-of-wales (maybe other people as well, sorry if I forgot to mention you), but to me, it feels very much like Margrethe favouring one son over the other & also doing everything she can to coddle him. It's not just the Nordic tabloids pitting family members against one another. It's very much based on Margrethe's behaviour & her leadership.

Sinu Han
Naturally fun drunk uncle vibe but has to be the reluctant dad.
Tries to teach the kids and be a good role model. Attempts birds and bees lecture when he thinks the boys are up to no good but who are we kidding... no experience whatsoever. Tries to teach the crew but more often than not he learns something himself.
Gets the young members all their first beers much to Yeonhui's disapproval.
Makes them teach him the new tech, new slang, new trends. They're reluctant but he pulls rank. He will still dab to this day.
Shit stirrer, the biggest gossip, and will absolutely egg on non-serious fights.
Favourite hobby is winding up Samuel. This includes:
Calling him Sammy.
Stealing just the 1 brass knuckle, wearing it and constantly asking why Samuel's copying him.
Wearing the standard regulation Big Deal uniform and constantly asking why Samuel's copying him.
Reserving the best jokes for Samuel exclusively:
"I wrote a song about a tortilla. Well, it’s actually more of a wrap"
...Then proceeds to rap.
Jake Kim
Well liked and respected by almost everyone in Big Deal. They are usually won over by his natural charm and his cheeky smile.
Knows everyone by name and makes sure to acknowledge and ask about them.
Extremely good memory, to the point some members find it a bit creepy "morning [name], hope your grandmas operation went well" until they remembered they mentioned it in passing 2 months ago.
Messes around a lot. Trying to speak to him about some official business when he's not in the mood? "I'm Jane Kim, I don't know who Jake is" and runs away.
Just and fair in real life, but cheats at every game he plays. Samuel has flipped the table on him more than once.
Samuel
Has an extremely dry sense of humour that most people can't read.
Sinu: It'll be good to get a new paint job for my car. Do you think we can afford it?
Samuel: Sure. We have a lot of money to spare.
Sinu: Really???
Samuel: Everyone has been eating ramen for the last 3 weeks and you have holes in your socks. You tell me.
Most of Big Deal can't understand why he gets on so well with Jake when they seem like oil and water. Hey, opposites attract. And ultimately they're working towards the same goal for now.
These 2 are the definition of good cop, bad cop.
Jake: why are you going round terrorising our girls
Rival Gang member: your girls work for us from now on
Jake: [sigh] listen, leave Big Deal Street alone. You don't want me to get this guy [points at Samuel] involved. I'm doing you a favour here
[Samuel smoking menacingly and looking unhinged]
Rival Gang member: ...ok
[Samuel beats the shit out of him anyway]
Jerry Kwon
Most of Big Deal were absolutely terrified of him until they found out he was 15 years old and Jake prepares his lunches.
Often plans visiting Jeju Island with Jason and sightseeing for when they have money to spare.
No hard feelings between him and Lineman, with Jerry even tutoring him on some of the subjects at school.
Listens patiently to all the bullshit that Lineman weaves like it's storytime.
Jerry tries to prioritise school when he can, and still gets around on his bicycle. He wants to keep making Jake proud.
Brad Lee
You thought Jake was bad to play games with? This guy has the most underhanded tricks. Hiding extra monopoly money, random cards up his sleeve, making up rules that sound just official enough. Samuel hasn't actually flipped the table on him. He just enjoys watching Jake getting more and more pissed off then Jake will do the table flip.
During the gang's quieter days, him and Sinu are the most annoying fuckers to be around. Constantly cracking jokes and ridiculous conversations that gives the rest of Big Deal a headache.
Sinu: which octopus leg would you want be?
Brad: the fifth one, it's the most important
Sinu: (nods) that makes sense
Sinu: hey Brenda, who am i?
Brad: good morning Sarah, how's make up school going?
Jason Yoon
Hangs out on the pier a lot. The rest of Big Deal think he's broody but it reminds him of Jeju Island beaches a little and he feels homesick.
Didn't speak a lot and quiet initially. He actually did have a lot of things to say, mostly revolving round wanting Sinu and Brad to stfu but keeps his mouth shut as he doesn't want to offend the boss.
The most pragmatic out of Team YB and has the best working relationship with Samuel.
The girls have heard he's called the Crimson Stallion but they don't really know why. "Hey do you think it's cos he's hung like a-"
Lineman
Golden retriever vibes, happy to be here. Super starstruck when he was introduced to everyone.
Gets flustered and stutters when he first joined the crew "g-good morning j-jake" and 'oh h-hiya mister k-kwon' until Jason and Brad poked fun at him "hey fuck you guys!!! im just being polite >:(" he very quickly relaxed and settled in after that.
Then it was the return of the cocky Lineman: the bullshit master of Big Deal.
Completely harmless and well intentioned though so they dont mind. Everyone can smell it a mile away but they let him dig his own grave.
Lua
The conservative culture and the fact that not a lot of girls are in the crew means the boys don't know how to often act around her. She gets away with far too much and takes advantage of this.
Brings back stray cats and dogs to Big Deal, where her and Jerry would take care of them until Samuel reminds them they barely have enough money to feed themselves.
Samuel is the only person that can keep her in line, and who treats her like any other member. To him your gender doesn't matter as long as you're useful. Lua respects him a lot but finds him too intimidating to ever get too close.

hi! I might be childish but I am 100% agreeing with McGonagall not getting Ginny’s Christmas card…🙃
Can you please tell us some about her mindset? Is it just trying to get the school through this year, is it really though love, remorse or..?
the mcgonagall discourse continues to tickle me no end. anon i for one applaud an encourage any and all childishness. also i agree! dropping people from the christmas card list because you've got major beef with them is a time-honoured and noble tradition and ginny is right to uphold it
i don't want to say too much that will end up in the fic but! i think mcgonagall in beasts thinks she is trying to Do Her Best - for ginny, for the other students under her care, but also for hogwarts as an institution, which is an institution whose mission and ethos she really believes in. a lot of this is is (understandably, and not necessarily wrongly) bound up in her loyalty to her mentor, dumbledore, someone she didn't always agree with but whose vision for hogwarts she consistently throws her weight behind.
minnie's got a huge amount on her plate stepping up as headmistress in 1998. she's the headteacher of a student body who are individually and collectively traumatised, who are only just beginning to process what happened to them, and whose traumas are extremely complex and diverse and don't really have the tools to grasp each other's often very different but no less serious sufferings (obviously the the pureblood/half-blood students who endured life under the carrows during the war and the DA lot who actively resisted the carrows and paid a huge price for it, but also muggleborn students who were on the run, and all those who were in azkaban.) she's dealing with a lot of guilt for all that she couldn't shield her students from (more to come on this), and she's sincere in her belief that young people who have gone through enormous upheaval need structure, routine, accountability, and a kind of compassion that manifests as someone saying no, you can't punch whoever you like because they said something horrible to you. you do have to hand your homework in. you do need to not sneak out of the castle at night and make everyone worry about you. partly this is generational - she was born in 1935, she has a set of ideas about acceptable and unacceptable ways of expressing your distress as a child. but i think this is also a not inherently cruel or abusive child welfare philosophy, even if it doesn't really take on a lot of what we know of how trauma manifests in young people and adolescents. minerva would say: it's my job to look after my students, i'm the adult and authority figure, i need to reimpose and safeguard the social contract that holds an institution like a school together, and also to make sure that i care about each individual student while also managing the impact of students' behaviours on each other. (in canon, she repeatedly does enforce the rules in strong terms and doesn't make excuses when harry - a character who is well within his rights to act out given his life experiences - gets in a fight or fucks up and breaks the rules in ways that meaningfully impact his peers.)
when it comes to ginny, i think mcgonagall sees lots of herself in her. they share a fierce protective streak, they're both very loyal, they're both incredibly stubborn, and they both are petty as hell and show their emotions by way of biscuit/christmas card deprivation. but that also means mcgonagall expects more of ginny than most, especially as someone who rode hard for the hogwarts student body the preceding year. mcgonagall wants ginny to help her keep hogwarts standing and continue to play the part of a role model for her peers as someone (she knows) they look up to. ginny does not want to do that. and mcgonagall's massively frustrated that ginny has (also understandably) held her hands up and said fuck that, role model schmole model, i've gone through it and you're all now saying back to normal and pretending it never happened. what's hard is that they're both kind of right! but neither is able to say it. and that's why gryffindor girlies are so fun and massively annoying to smash into each other when doing the literary equivalent of playing dolls (writing fanfiction)

You might be wondering why I'm writing my novel in English if it's set in Russia and my native language is Russian. Yeah, yeah, the lgbt propaganda law is a factor, but there's something else.
The fact that I tried writing it in Russian a bunch of times and it never went smoothly enough or made me satisfied the way I am satisfied with chapter 1 in English.
It might have something to do with the fact that when I tried to remember a relatable and aspirational female character in the great Russian literature, I came up empty, apart from maybe Olga in Oblomov. There are only three types of interesting female characters in Russian literature: ones who commit suicide/get murdered, ones who get married and that's it, ones who are the hero's great love, more an ideal than a person. There are no female role models in Russian literature and creating an interesting female character in Russian is a bit too challenging for a beginner writer.
I was asked once about recommendations of any female Russian writers from the 19th century. I couldn't remember any. I googled and I found a bunch of names I'd hardly heard of. And the 20th century isn't much better. There are female poets. There is an Armenian writer who wrote a cult ya book. There are some detective writers. I can't think of anyone else. I'm not a Russian literature connoisseur though, by any means.
Currently, the most mainstream music genre in Russia is shanson (I know it's technically kinda chanson, but it has very little in common with the French songs at this point). It's like country but it's mostly from the perspective of middle aged criminals, literally. It's prison songs that shape the culture. You'll hear them on TV on major channels whenever there are concerts. You'll hear them on generic radio stations. You'll hear them in taxis and buses. You'll hear your dad who introduced you to Led Zeppelin listen to them.
Women in these songs are sexual objects. They are desirable and promiscuous, they are impossible to understand and empty.
Something about all of it makes it very hard to write anything that centers a woman. Or even passes the Bechdel test (it's not a serious test, I know).
Silence has been too loud to break it.
