Nick thought you were the most interesting person when he met you. Some of the first things you said to him were about different types of bugs. It definitely caught him off guard, but it didn't raise any red flags.

When you guys started dating, he realized you actually had a bug collection. Whether they were alive or taxidermied, you. had. bugs.

You had butterflies, rolliepollies, moths, jumping spiders, more than he could ever identify. Sure, it was definitely.. weird.. to him, but he supported you for it.

A lot of you guys' dates ended up being at museums, and you always looked at fossils, to which you pointed out fossils of bugs or ones that could've been bugs.

Sometimes you guys would just sit out at the park, walking around and examining different kinds of bugs that would be scuttling around the ground. It's definitely not how he pictured his evenings going, but since it's with you, he loves it all the same.

He winds up learning some more about bugs to try and impress you, which kind of fails, because you know a lot more than he gave you credit for.

Sometimes you two would just sit and watch the bugs you have just crawl and fly around, because honestly, it's fun. He wouldn't have it any other way.

When I was a kid I remember doing this. You know those bugs rolliepollies? I used to find a lot of them and collect them in my hand and then squish them and rub the guts all over my hands and body because I thought it was lotion because the guts are white. I never got in trouble for doing it either and they knew I was doing it. I just eventually stopped when my mom kept telling me “lol it’s not lotion it’s bug guts Tanya”

Decided to build a closed terrarium with my boo thang!🌎 The jar is sealed, the plants produce oxygen and food for the rollies, the rollies eat the dead plant matter and make nitrogen for the plants, the water will evaporate and condense through the system and it all sustains itself only needing to trim the plants every month or so. It's its own ecosystem / ecosphere! Just like our little blue ball floating through space this jars' world will go through its cycles and seasons in a way we can watch just on a much smaller scale and I am incredibly excited to watch this one and make more!

Isopod upgrade!! 🐾🐾🐾🐾 I started two isopod colonies collected about 2 weeks ago (idr?) from when I cleaned out the leaf litter in our dried-out pond. I separated the two groups into "pale with speckles" and "dark with speckles" initially, but the rollie pollie pictured is the only plain one I kept because he's just SO CUTE AND FRIENDLY!! I love him too much to banish him to the cold, hard outdoors. He's HUGE, too. Like the size of my pinky nail. So, he's just grouped in with the dark ones, and I DEFinitely didn't name him Big Papa, I swear. 😭💖 I've been feeding these guys all sorts of stuff (including homemade eggshell calcium supplement!!) and they're so adorable how curious they are. So far, their favourite was cauliflower stem slices (it looked like swiss cheese the next day!!) 🥦🥦🥦🥦 But enough babying, they needed natural items to keep them busy and entertained (as well as moist and feeling safe.) So today, I cleaned up a bit, gave them each some more dirt (from the compost), sphagnum moss, crushed homemade leaf litter, and decaying wood (and "hides" from that, too.) Big Papa came out to inspect the renovation right away, but I have yet to see the others be so daring.
