Oh my god how dare you like a popular version of Romeo + Juliet and how dare you like an Oscar winning film about your special interest? So problematic of you (I’m being sarcastic, you do you, other anon is just a weirdo)
Oh my god I know, it’s so funny?!?
Like let’s be totally upfront here: do I like Leonardo DiCaprio as an actor? Yes. He’s a brilliant actor who makes good movies. Does that mean I’m okay with him dating 19 year olds? Nope, that’s very fucking weird and he needs to start dating women who are at the very least 30. (Apparently he isn’t dating the 19 year old model he was pictured with, they were just sitting together at a party, but my point still very much stands, he does have a very wrong habit of dating only under 25 year olds even now he’s in his 40s).
As for his movies, specifically the two the anon seemed so pressed about… I like Romeo + Juliet, and I have since I was 13 and I watched it in English class. I love William Shakespeare’s plays, and I love watching them be performed in any medium, especially R+J (side note: the NT Live version of Romeo and Juliet with Jessie Buckley that was filmed during COVID in an empty theatre is also amazing). Not only am I an English/writing nerd, I’m also a drama nerd - I fucking ADORE a bit of William Shakespeare. I love Baz Luhrmann’s movies as well, I think he’s an amazing director, I’ve seen nearly every single one of his movies and loved them (R+J, Moulin Rouge, Great Gatsby, Elvis etc). I love the soundtrack of the movie. I love the other actors in it like Claire Danes, John Leguizamo, Harold Perrineau, Miriam Margolyes, Paul Rudd etc. That film is a fucking trip from start to finish and I love that I’ve seen people younger than me discover it because I genuinely think it can help younger generations understand Shakespeare a little more and ignite an interest in his works.
I first watched Titanic aged 7 or 8 so it was very much a film I saw a number of times from a young age. Last year I became interested in the real life Titanic sinking and everything related to it, which led to it becoming my new special interest - I even went to an exhibition in London on the day after the 110th anniversary of the sinking last year. I made a whole post over on @alwaysahiccupandastrid about how accurate James Cameron’s movie was, which is why I rewatched the film last year and fell in love with it - the romance is lovely, but I was genuinely more fascinated by the effort and attention to detail Cameron put into the movie, from the costumes and sets to the depiction of the sinking. No, it’s not 100% historically accurate, some liberties were taken, but the accuracies by far outweigh the inaccuracies. I adore Kate Winslet and think she is one of the most beautiful women on earth, and I look up to her for various reasons. I love the performances of the other cast, like Kathy Bates, Bernard Hill, Billy Zane, Bill Paxton, Gloria Stuart etc. I’ve spoken before on my love for it, and I was fortunate enough to see it in cinemas this past February due to there being 25th anniversary screenings. Whether you like it or not, it’s undeniably one of the best films made and I stand by my love for it.
Yes, I think Leo is great in the two films aforementioned, and I love Jack Dawson especially. But he’s not the only reason I watched either of them, or any film, and it’s highly disrespectful to belittle someone expressing a love for any film by claiming they’re only interested based on one actor, as if they can’t enjoy a film for multiple reasons. I enjoy a lot of Leo’s films and his performances, absolutely, because he’s so talented - but that doesn’t mean I agree with whatever the fuck he’s doing in his private life.
To add, I am very much a cinephile who enjoys a variety of movies: often times there’ll be a huge surge of posts about one movie then another surge of a different movie/show/whatever because I just go into the tag for it, mass-queue stuff, then come back and do the same thing for another movie/whatever. Some films are new, some films are from years - even decades - ago. Certain films being older doesn’t negate them being good!

Stay safe, lovely people!

Jack Totally Could Have Lived at the End of 'Titanic' A quarter of a century after the film smashed box office records and cemented its place in cinema history, director James Cameron is finally putting an end to one of Hollywood's oldest debates: Could Jack have survived on that floating board with Rose at the end of Titanic? It's a question thats vexed moviegoers for years. In the film, Jack needlessly sacrificed himself for his lover in vain but few have actually put the plethora of armchair theories to the test in the real world until now. Celebrating the movie's 25th anniversary, Cameron is revisiting the climactic scene and applying the scientific method to figure out whether or not Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet's characters could have lived happily ever after. In the upcoming Titanic: 25 Years Later with James Cameron anniversary special, the director and two stunt doubles set out to test four different scenarios to see if there was any chance Jack could have survived. The first scenario involving Jack and Rose laying flat atop the door would have likely resulted into both of them succumbing to hypothermia with the added weight submerging their lower halves in freezing water. The second experiment sees the two faring slightly better with both fitting comfortably on the floating door, but Jack still ends up with dying after being exposed to the cold. “He could’ve made it pretty long, like hours” Cameron points out in a clip from the special. \u201c.@GMA FIRST LOOK: @natgeo special \u201cTitanic: 25 Years Later with James Cameron\u201d will settle the debate once and for all: could Jack have survived?\n\n@JimCameron\n@natgeotv\u201d — Good Morning America (@Good Morning America) 1675346597 If you factor in the fact that Jack and Rose would theoretically have had to swim a considerable distance away from the Titanic in order to fight against the massive ship's pull as it went under, exhaustion becomes a considerable concern when trying to determine their survivability. That being said, Cameron admits that there is a chance Rose could have stabilized Jack with her life jacket for long enough until a lifeboat eventually rescued them.“Jack might’ve lived, but there’s a lot of variables,” Cameron conceded. “I think his thought process was, ‘I’m not gonna do one thing that jeopardizes her.’”And while, this may come as vindication for many who angrily shouted that there was totally enough space on that door, its worth pointing out that Jack was always destined to die plot-wise. “Your hero had to die,” Billy Zane told People in a 2018 interview, explaining that the story wouldn't have been as impactful if he lived. “I don’t know what else would have done it. It had to happen.”Cameron echoed Zane's sentiment recently in an interview with the Toronto Sun. "It’s like Romeo and Juliet, right? … It’s a movie about love and sacrifice and mortality. So the love is measured by the sacrifice. Now maybe I didn’t do it in a way that everybody agrees with but Jack had to die. It’s that simple.”Photo courtesy of Getty/CBS https://www.papermag.com/james-cameron-titanic-ending-2659365289.html

Before I die I'll share my secrets
the most naive ones and then those most perverse;
How it wasn't my intention to end up here.
My eagerness to go blow my brains.
~~
Before I die, I need an answer
a genuine song, our own take at a romance
~~
I wanna cover myself with you, travel by train and live in your head, go by "amen" (go and love)
instead of "amén" (god's will)
I want to like myself, want to go joking around
I want to forgive myself for allowing you to do
all that you did to me.
LosPetitFellas, Denise Gutiérrez, Dj Pho – Antes de Morir (Before I Die)
DESTIEL EN ESPAÑOL
4 DAYS COUNTDOWN TO "Y YO A TÍ" ANNIVERSARY ON NOV 25TH
Where I'll be posting bits of songs from my playlist dedicated to them 💕
< previous - . – . — . – . - next >
Song and comment under the cut.
Did you like the pic I chose? Did you get it? It's my nod to the orange motif and the romeo and juliet scene. I think they should've placed some lighting to function like that orange glow of loss, in the confession scene or afterwards.
Here's the song:
I think it's clear how both Cas and Dean jump to sacrifice themselves and how there's this romanticized notion of dying for love etc. but this song, while it mentions suicidal ideation or an eagerness to die, it is really a song about wanting to live, and like wanting to actually fully live your story, before it ends.
It starts with the voice of Eduardo Galeano (Uruguayan journalist, writer, amazing man) quoting Muriel Rukeyser ( American activist, philosopher, writer, amazing woman) on how "the universe is not made of atoms; it's made of stories" and going about how stories thread our sense of humanity and our sense of the world. This is indicative of what the singing voice starts describing, all the stories they want to live before dying.
So as the song goes on, it's all talking about yearning for what they haven't lived yet, but it also mentions a complicated love story. There's two voices and they both at times speak to a lover but it doesn't feel like they're talking to eachother. The full chorus goes like this:
Before I die I need a party, a kiss, a nap, a night like this. Before I die I need an answer, an honest song, our own take at a romance
I like to think of destiel while listening to it, especially for the flavor in y yo a ti, the I love you / and I, you moment. Orpheus and Eurydice but there was no other choice, death was never retreating. So you might as well take that last glance at the sun. The reciprocation is a sweet euphoric easy happiness in an instant and they won't change the outcome but they would change the whole story. It means a reciprocated loved and lived romance in the peak of tragedy, in the face of death, knowing death still comes but you got that one shiny moment before it takes it all away. A love confession at the end of it's time is, as this song is too, a "last night on earth" anthem.
In the second verse the voice talks about how they want to take a chance and not care if it hurts or kills them, and how their greatest fear is a sense of loneliness, and of it being prolonged, of never feeling even just one kiss as days go by. There's also the line I did add here, about forgiving themselves for allowing what their partner did to them. It's not all roses. The song implies romantic love as the nuanced experience it is, with it's beauty and horrors, and the decision to live it all, to forge meaning out of what we live in a relationship.
The world is made of stories, your life is a story. But you want to live that story. That's what the song is saying. And that's also the promise a reciprocation makes! an untold story is then built on sight, rooted if nothing else, in hope.
Before death comes, I want an answer. SO TRUE.

Lost without You
George Weasley x Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: Mentions of Death/Loss! Swearing! other than that just Fluff
Taglist: @amourtentiaa
Word Count: 791
Summary: George comforts the reader on anniversary of mothers death
Prompt: “Can you just hold me please?”
Masterlist
Y/N is a quiet girl for the most part, however, she seemed to have befriended one of the loudest students at Hogwarts, George Weasley. Even though George and Y/N were complete opposites, and they had only became friends one year ago they were practically inseparable.
Today January 25th, was the anniversary of Y/N’s mother’s death. Throughout her time at Hogwarts she never had anyone to help her through this tough time. She had always been granted the day off from her studies, however during the day she normally spent her time in the library given it was a good distraction as well as it being a comforting place for her.
There normally weren’t any students about during the day as they were all in class or out on the grounds, so Y/N was able to read some books in peace. Whilst reading one particular book (Romeo and Juliet) Y/N could feel herself getting more and more emotional. She didn’t know why she decided to pick up the famous book, as it always reminded her of her mother and how she would always read to her.
Y/N could feel the tears form in the back of her eyes before they came falling down onto her cheeks, landing on the pages she was trying to read. This silent sob quickly became a little louder as the memories of her mother came flooding back, and the realisation of loneliness struck her right in her heart. Never in her life had she felt more alone than she did now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------George Weasley was making his way back into the school after playing a few pranks on 3 years with Fred. He suddenly remembered that he had forgotten to buy the required Charms textbook for this year, lucky for him he knew that there was always spares in the library, you just needed to search for them. So he decided to head his way there quickly before class began.
Once he arrived in the library, he headed straight to the section where he had seen the old textbooks sitting collecting dust. Whilst searching up and down the isles however, he heard silent sobs coming from the one beside his. He made his way to the end of the book shelf and peered round the corner, only to be faced with a distraught Y/N sitting crying into her arms.
Filled with concern for his friend, he was kneeling down in front of her in no time in attempt to get her to notice him.
“Hey Y/N, what’s up? hey, shhh, you can tell me, you’re ok” he says calmingly while ribbing her arm.
Y/N looks down at him with teary eyes “Hey George, sorry, I-it’s nothing” she looks away after faking a smile.
“It’s clearly not nothing Y/N, c’mon you can tell me” His kind manner lets Y/N loosen up a bit leaning into the touch of his hand on her arm.
“it’s my m-m-mum’s d-death anniversary-y today” she chokes out. Georges heart sinks as he watches her head fall back into her arms crying, he had no idea, and he felt even worse about not knowing.
“It’s ok, I'm here for you Y/N I'm here, let it out, ok love, let it out” he says now sitting next to her his arm round her shoulder.
She continue to silently cry. “You wanna talk about it, your mum I mean, you don’t have to if you don’t want to” She shakes her head, lifting it to look at him.
“Can you just hold me please?”
“Of course darling, c’mere” he says taking her into his arms, while she buries her head into his chest. He can feel her tears begin to soak into his shirt, but he doesn’t care, he just wishes he could help Y/N, bring back her mum maybe. But he knows he can’t.
“Hey darling, you’re alright, you’re alright. You’re not alone ok, I'm here for you, always, cry all you want” He continues to whisper reassurance into Y/N’s ear as he holds her tight.
Soon sobs become more like sniffles and Y/N mumbles into his chest
“Thank you Georgie, you’re the only one who’s ever done this for me”
His heart breaks even more, he cares so deeply for Y/N and seeing her like this kills him, he’s just glad he could help in some way.
“Of course, darling, I'm always here for you, anything you need”
After a few more minutes of them hugging, George decides to skip his classes for the rest of the day and takes Y/N to his dorm to cuddle instead.
A/N Hi, hope you enjoyed that it’s my first time writing anything with a prompt, I really enjoyed it, let me know if you’d like any others :)

What is your favourite Phantom of the Opera album?
Oh, well, I'm uh actually kind of a Phantom newbie? I mean I've been in the fandom for a year, but yeah I only watched and listened to it for the first time a year ago and I haven't watched any full performance other than the 25th DVD and live on August 30th of this year.
You're not asking for my favourite Phantom though, but my favourite album? I assume you mean official proper albums. There aren't... that many English ones are there? I mean, I have a lot of them, but as far as I was aware there's only 2 full length English albums? The original West End and the 25th anniversary concert (not including the 2004 film soundtrack).
The album I listen to the most is the 25th anniversary concert as it's the first cast I saw, Ramin is one of my favourite phantoms, and it's a nice clear recording. Choosing it over the orignal London album is also because I... don't like Michael Crawford as Erik, and I just don't like his voice. One of my favourite pieces of music in Phantom is the Hannibal ballet and you can hear that much better in the 25th as well.
Other albums I like in other languages? I have a soft spot for the French dub of the 2004 film (not the French-Canadian dub, the French dub) because it has Damien Sargue as Raoul and Cécilia Cara as Christine, and they were the originators or Romeo and Juliet in the French musical Roméo et Juliette and hearing their voices together makes me very happy. The 2015 Moscow cast album is also a nice recording and I do like Ivan Ozhogin as Erik.
But I also haven't really listened to any of the other albums, but I also haven't had much of a desire too, at least not yet.

2021
Steven Spielberg directs a remake of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical West Side Story (directed by Robert Wise in 1961).
Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the story tells of two young lovers (Tony and Maria) from opposing cultural sides in 1950s New York.
Screenplay author Tony Kushner promises a film that will turn back to the original 1957 stage version and focus on “gritty” life in parts of New York City in the late 1950s.
Tony is played by Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver, 2017). For the role of Maria, 17-year-old Rachel Zegler is chosen - it’s her first film part. Other cast members are Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo and Josh Andrés Rivera als Chino.
Rita Moreno (she played Anita in the original film) portrays Valentina and is also executive producing.
Director Steven Spielberg comments his casting decisions:
“When we began this process a year ago, we announced that we would cast the roles of Maria, Anita, Bernardo, Chino and the Sharks with Latina and Latino actors. I’m so happy that we’ve assembled a cast that reflects the astonishing depth of talent in America’s multifaceted Hispanic community. I am in awe of the sheer force of the talent of these young performers, and I believe they’ll bring a new and electrifying energy to a magnificent musical that’s more relevant than ever.”
Spielberg joins forces with producers Kristie Macosko Krieger and Kevin McCollum, Broadway producer of the Tony Award-winning musicals Rent, In the Heights and Avenue Q and choreographer Justin Peck.
David Newman - Thomas Newman's brother - will arrange and conduct the music by composer Leonard Bernstein. He will collaborate with musical composer and texter Stephen Sondheim.
Principal photography starts in Summer 2019.
A first publicity photo is published on June 17, depicting Maria (Rachel Zegler), Tony (Ansel Elgort), The Jets (left) and The Sharks (right).

Spielberg’s ambitions to direct a film musical became visible in the dance choreography of 1941 and the brilliant musical intro of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
On March 20, 2020, 20th Century Fox (the film’s financing and distributing studio) is purchased by Walt Disney Studios and renamed 20th Century Studios in 2020.
The original release date in U.S. theaters is December 18, 2020 - Steven Spielberg's birthday. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. release is pushed back to Dec. 10, 2021 - 60 years after the premiere of the original 1961 film.
On April 25, 2021, to coincide with the Oscars, when Rita Moreno presents the award for Best Picture, the first trailer is released.
The film receives almost universal acclaim. Reviews highlight that Spielberg has indeed succeeded in taking a fresh look at the musical classic that not only does justice to its predecessor, but surpasses it in various places.
Nevertheless, the film disappoints at the box office (partly due to the pandemic). With production costs of about $100 million, the film grosses only about $76 million worldwide, leaving Walt Disney Studios with a hefty loss. Spielberg's The BFG (2016), another Walt Disney Studios production, also failed to turn out a profit, with production costs of $140 million and high marketing expenses (worldwide box office receipts: about $199 million).
At the Golden Globe Awards, West Side Story wins in three categories:
Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Best Actress, Musical or Comedy for Rachel Zegler
Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose.
Steven Spielberg is being nominated as Best Director.
At the Academy Awards, the film is nominated in seven categories:
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose
Best Cinematography
Best Production Design
Best Costume Design
Best Sound.

Happy 25th Birthday, Hollyoaks!
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (19th-23rd October 2020)
This week marked Hollyoaks’ 25th anniversary, and we were treated to scenes featuring a terrifying doll blackmailing the McQueen’s. As we know, at the end of last week, the McQueen’s began receiving mysterious text messages and this week, the family began being blackmailed; their ‘seven deadly sins’ would be revealed if they did not cough up. Mercedes instantly accused James and confronted him in the village, but she was soon summoned back to The Dog by Nana, who had taken delivery of a package containing a doll. The doll demanded a payment of £7000 in exchange for silence of the first sin; wrath. Sylver realised that the sin related to Breda’s death and, worrying about his relationship with Cher, was determined that his secret should stay hidden. Believing that James was the culprit, Sylver went to see him, and nearly attacked him until Mercedes and Goldie dragged him away. Later, Mercedes went to see James and asked him to pay the money, pointing out that he owed her following the shooting. James coughed up, and there was relief all round when the money was transferred only a few seconds over the deadline. However, despite the family insisting that those few seconds wouldn’t matter, the police turned up to arrest Sylver...
Tumblr media
The McQueen’s were left reeling following Sylver’s arrest and Mercedes even asked George to destroy any evidence they had against him. When George refused, Mercedes shouted after him that he could never be a part of their family. Sylver was later released, and was forced to come clean to Cher when she demanded to know where he’d been. As Sylver confessed to murdering Breda, Cher had a confession of her own, and confided in Sylver about how she’d been responsible for the death of her younger sister by pushing her into a swimming pool whilst on holiday. Don’t worry, Cher, you’re in great company with the McQueen’s...
Tumblr media
Later that day, George arrived at The Dog and informed John Paul that he’d been responsible for Sylver’s release, as he’d done what Mercedes had asked and destroyed the evidence. John Paul was angry at George for interfering, but everyone was soon distracted by the blackmailer’s next message, this time, offering them a way out if they could guess their identity. However, Mercedes refused to be drawn in, and insisted they should ignore it, unaware that she was being watched by serial killer granddad, Silas Blissett! The McQueen’s were soon in party mode when Mercedes revealed that she was pregnant, much to the delight of Sylver. Silas followed Mercedes as she went to call Myra, and prepared to strike, only to be stopped in his tracks when he learned of the pregnancy...

Meanwhile, Tony was shocked when Verity and Diane arrived at the caravan to start divorce proceedings. Tony hired Sami to represent him and the foursome held a meeting to discuss matters, but Tony ended up storming off when Sami and Verity couldn’t stop squabbling. After hearing that the meeting hadn’t gone well, Edward went to see Tony and told him that the stress of the situation was causing Diane to lose her hair. Later, Tony went to see Diane and informed her that he’d signed the divorce papers. As Tony began facing up to a life without Diane, he was intrigued to receive a message from the ‘love of his life’ requesting a meeting at The Hutch the following day. As Tony arrived at the restaurant, a motorbike pulled up outside, and Tony was shocked to find his old friend, Kurt Benson, who died in a jet ski accident in 1999, standing in front of him. Turns out, Kurt’s not dead after all...

Elsewhere, Victor was pressuring Juliet to find them some new dealers and, after pointing out that girls attract less attention than boys, told her to get Ella on board. The following day, when Ella went to meet Charlie for lunch, Juliet turned up, and suggested that the three of them should hang out. Although initially thrilled that an older girl wanted to be friends with her, Juliet’s sinister intentions were revealed, when she suggested to Charlie that it was time for Ella to know where his recent wealth had come from. Ella was horrified to hear what Juliet and Charlie had gotten themselves involved in, and categorically refused to be a part of it. However, Juliet frightened Ella when she revealed that she’d hidden a package of weed in the kitchen of The Hutch, and told her she needed to retrieve it to prevent Mandy getting into trouble. Ella did as she was told, and later went to meet Juliet to return the package. Juliet instructed Ella to place the package into Charlie’s backpack, before revealing that she’d captured the whole interaction on video...

Finally, Yasmine was down in the dumps about the state of her relationship with Tom, but was determined to get things back on track, starting with getting him to say he loved her. On the advice of Misbah, Yasmine invited Tom round for dinner, but things didn’t go well when he realised that he and Yazz wanted different things out of life and suggested that they break up, feeling like his desire to remain in the village would hold her back. Yazz refused to accept Tom’s decision, and was determined to win him back. After learning that Tom was planning to go and visit Holly in France, Yazz knew she would have to act quickly, and begged Cindy to stall him. When the pair came face to face in the village, Tom told Yazz that he’d lost too many people to risk losing her too. As Cindy, Mandy and Darren gathered round, Yazz showed Tom a video she’d made, featuring all of the villagers reading out a love letter she’d written to Tom. Tom was overwhelmed by Yazz’s gesture, and was even more so when she proposed! There was delight all round when Tom accepted!

i just came across your blog from your amazing art taste. how did you come to get into such classical striking styles? from your love of donna tartt i assume it carried through to other art forms. what are some of your favourite artists or themes (could be visual, musical, literary etc)?
first of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart because this ask really made my day, you’re a sweetheart.
actually, i think if i have to track down a literary origin point for my art taste (even if it’s not entirely true it all originated in that specific way, it’s truer to state i was born with it, i would roam around the louvre or versailles at six and already feel so in awe and in my element, or i would arrive in rome at nine and feel home), but the real turning point of my artistic taste was the art for art’s sake movement, walter pater and oscar wilde. only ten years later i discovered donna tartt, and i had already graduated from my classics high school and in general studied the classics for ten years - yes, donna tartt added a great deal of beauty in my life, but i was already completely part of that world, so to speak.
it’s so difficult to list all the artists, and styles, and in general all the beauty that daily inspires my life, the right answer would be, “everything that strikes me within and that i find beautiful”, and that can be literally anything, but i can try, for art’s sake :)

The Royal Ballet
  https://royalcentral.co.uk/features/royal-association-world-ballet-day-royal-patronages-54376/
Ballet is an accessible and affordable form of entertainment with a broad selection of performances of which to choose. Ranging from the traditional adaptations of Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet to the more contemporary, original productions.
The British Royal Family have been long-time supporters of the arts, and ballet is no exception. With its inception in 1969, the Northern Ballet company takes its inspiration from classical dance, opera, popular culture, theatre and literature. The Earl of Wessex has served as its Royal Patron since 2003.
The Royal Ballet is the UK’s oldest dance company. Established in 1931 by entrepreneur, dancer and choreographer Dame Ninette de Valois, it was formerly known as the Old Vic Theatre where performances took place. The company also filled seats in Sadler’s Wells Theatre in North London. During World War II, the company toured throughout the UK and Europe, performing for Allied forces. After war’s end, in 1946, it debuted a performance of The Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House, (ROH), in Covent Garden where it currently resides today. The name ‘Royal Ballet’ was granted Royal Charter on the occasion of its 25th anniversary in 1956.
Her Majesty serves as patron of the Royal Ballet. Prince Charles has been a long-time supporter of Covent Garden and the Royal Opera. He became a Patron of the Royal Opera in 1975, and Patron of The Friends of Covent Garden in 1978. He began serving as President of the Royal Ballet in 2004 and became Patron of the Royal Opera House in 2009.
The Duke of York is the current Royal patron for the English National Ballet company. Founded in 1950, it is the second oldest dance company in the UK; with two prior notable Royal supporters. Princess Margaret held the position from 1978 to 1989. Diana, Princess of Wales, took up the role in 1989 until her death in 1997.
As desired by its founders, Alicia Markova, Anton Dolin and Julian Braunsweg named their company Festival Ballet to honour the festival of Britain. Touring throughout England has always been at the heart of the English National Ballet.
The Central Ballet Company celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The Countess of Wessex has been royal patron since 2003. It was established as the Central School of Ballet in 1982 by Ann Stannard and the late Christopher Gable CBE. Students who attend the school gain firsthand experience in performing alongside professional dancers. After graduation, they have the knowledge and skills required to work with any company at the same calibre as their peers.
In Bristol, in 1957, Peter Darrell and Elizabeth West founded the Western theatre ballet. It moved to Glasgow twelve years later and was renamed Scottish Theatre Ballet. A short five years later in 1974, its name was again changed to what it is currently, Scottish Ballet. This company tours the major cities throughout Northern Ireland, Wales, England and Scotland. The Prince of Wales has been Patron since May 2009.

Francesca Hayward prepares for a performance of Romeo and Juliet © Dasa Wharton
Francesca Hayward, Principal dancer of The Royal Ballet, has a leading role in the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats, directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Misérables, The Danish Girl). The much-criticised film – both positively and negatively, though mostly the latter – has seen praise poured on Hayward who plays the white cat, Victoria.
Here are interviews with Hayward on Gramilano, since she was a soloist in 2015 and articles and photos albums.

Interview with The Royal Ballet’s hot couple: Francesca Hayward and Alexander Campbell
Hayward and Campbell have been dancing a lot together, most recently for the opening night of Coppélia at The Royal Opera House. In this 2018 interview she says of The Royal Ballet’s director:
When Kevin O’Hare, [Director of The Royal Ballet] promoted me I hadn’t done any big tutu roles yet — The Sugar Plum Fairy and Aurora were yet to come — so I think he saw the potential for that, but really I think he saw that I was capable of dancing the bigger roles because I could convincingly tell a story which is essential to nearly any ballet.
I think he also knows that I’m generally pretty calm and I take everything in my stride both on stage and off.

Royal Ballet’s uplifting Nutcracker with Francesca Hayward, Alexander Campbell, Anna Rose O’Sullivan, James Hay and the ubiquitous Gary Avis
My view of Hayward in Nutcracker:
She is THE musical box ballerina: delicate and poised with perfect proportions. She’s as light as a feather, and radiates serenity as her face illuminates the stage. Those off-axis epaulement positions which can seem forced are incorporated seamlessly into her dancing and all is presented with great ease, and also freshness, as though she’s inventing steps on the spur of the moment.
