Ron: That's... That's an unusual phrase for you. Did you just learn it?

A romione thing I really enjoy thinking about is Ron having a dawning realization that he is in competition with the world.
Once the Harry goggles (insecurity goggles really) come off, it becomes readily apparent that his biggest competition for time and attention are Hermione's Projects TM. I think this is a competition would be far more complicated for him because they just fought a war that wanted to erase people like her, and she is working to ensure that another never takes place again.
I also really enjoy the idea that politics is dangerous business for Hermione (love the idea of assassination attempts). We've seen over and over again that he has a very strong need to protect her. More importantly, we've also seen Hermione refuse such offers over and over. These two are fundamental needs that each of them have that nonetheless strongly conflict with each other.
In canon, the fast-paced circumstances of the war meant that Ron had never managed to make his case in full. Even more pertinent, there really was no feasible method of protecting Hermione that did not entail them winning the whole war.
Thus, I am wondering now what it would mean for such conflicts between them to re-occur without the war as a backdrop. Unlike in the war, Hermione would not have to hold dangerous political positions. She does not have to make herself a target for the bigots. Nor does she have to expose herself to deadly ministry conspiracies.
That she is exposed to such danger would thus be completely a choice Hermione makes - a choice that would endanger herself and, when the time comes perhaps, her whole family.
Provided that this is not a path that Hermione can be swayed on, what would the experience be like for Ron, having to live out what would essentially be a continuation of the war even in peacetime?

Chapter 4: Tea and a Serious Lack of Crumpets
There's a lot that Harry didn't see. Those moments, where it was just Hermione and Ron, furthered the pair's relationship beyond what any of them could have expected. Deathly Hallows missing moments. Rated M/E

Harry : Professor, can you sign this letter, so I can go to Hogsmeade? McGonagall : I'm afraid I can't, Potter. Only parents or guardian can do that, and I'm not your guardian. Harry : Please, Professor.. I wanna go to Hogsmeade so bad..! McGonagall : I actually can, but I don't wanna do that. Harry : Why?? McGonagall : Because I cannot let you to keep being a cockblocker for Weasley and Granger, Potter. That is not good for you. Harry : McGonagall : Romione forever

I hate how the consensus in the fandom is disliking Romione because "Ron isn't good enough for her". lmfaoo y'all, Hermione isn't good enough for HIM.
Remember guys, she got jealous that he was dating someone else and physically assaulted him until he bled. He had scratches. What the fuck was that and how did anyone read this scene and not think Hermione was a disgusting, abusive piece of trash? No because if Ron had been the one beating up Hermione like that you can BET people would've remembered it and held it against him forever (as they should!).
And I saw so many people defend Hermione saying shit like "oh i don't excuse her but it was understandable". She was just acting like "an irrational teenage girl"! Yeah uh no that was not just irrational teenager behaviour. Teenagers are emotional yes but most teenagers don't beat up their crush when they kiss someone else unless they have some serious disorder. Like, St Brutus's Secure Centre for Incurably Criminal Boys level of disorder. She actually needs to be locked up, asap. The most understandable depiction of violent teenage behaviour in HP was OotP, and Harry was literally traumatised. Rowling wants you to believe that Hermione, on the other hand, is supposed to be a well-adjusted teenager.
"oh but Ron was rude to her too wah wah" yeah I don't give a fuck. Nothing Ron did to Hermione was on this level of violence, I genuinely do not give a fuck.
You know who angerly retaliates to Ron's rude remarks without acting like fucking Vernon Dursley? Ginny. And I don't even like Ginny. But when Ron acts like a jerk towards her, she understandably shoots back, she gets spiteful and mean, in an actual teenage girl way. No way y'all are trying to normalize the shit Hermione pulled.
"but", I hear you say, "it's normal for characters to have flaws :((( you just want every character to be flawless! It just shows that in HP no one is perfect! It's realistic!"
First of all, Harry Potter characters have the depth of a wet tissue, be fucking for real, second of all, that argument might hold water if the narrative held Hermione accountable and criticised her for what she did. but it didn't. The narrative blamed Ron. Ron is written as a flawed character, but Hermione isn't.
I love flawed characters, but I don't love flawed characters whose shit behaviour constantly get excused/validated by the author at all. They are actually the type of characters I despise the most. they become very unlikable and not in a fun way. If there's one thing in a story I can't stand it's inconsistent morality and the author playing favourites (looking at you Isayama)
Also, I'm pretty sure there's a world between "not being perfect" and being a genuinely abusive, bad person. HP1-3 Hermione is the former. HP6 Hermione is the latter. Ultimately, Rowling does intend for Hermione to be a good person. She kinda failed at portraying that. Hermione wasn't even shown as the bad guy for what she did! Harry felt a bit awkward 'cause he saw her cry and the narrative treated Ron like a jerk for daring to be interested in anyone other than Hermione and not realising she wanted him. How dare he! Nevermind that Hermione dated Viktor and Cormac. It's okay when she does it, but how dare he! Even when Rowling talks about these two, she thinks Ron is the one who needs to grow up and get himself together. He needs better friends. And a better author.

I know you responded with a meme, but if you're able I'd love to hear your thoughts on harry/hermione 👀
fine. i'll scream into a pillow periodically and get through this...
obviously, i don't actually find the concept of harmony sincerely upsetting - people shipping things is never that deep, and because, as i've said before, i subscribe to the principle that any pairing is possible if you just have enough nerve. i've been recommended some harmony fics by people who are fonder of the ship, and while i've not found them immediately compelling, i do appreciate that there are plenty of people who disagree.
but my feelings are basically the same for harmony as they are for dramione: that it's never done interestingly.
harmony is - like all hermione pairings except [broadly] romione - a breeding ground for fanon!hermione, who is perfect and flawless and so clever she can solve millennia-old mysteries in afternoon. i hate this version of the character because i find her boring - it's just standard self-insert stuff, which is fine but not something i have any interest in reading. i similarly dislike the version of harry who appears in these stories, who ends up - like all men in hermione pairings except [broadly] ron - being either this impossibly sophisticated and suave intellectual with the body of a greek god or a doormat who's happy to shut the fuck up forever and do whatever she says.
[i also hate - obviously, since he's my king - the way harmony stories are often even more egregious than dramione ones in writing ron as a cruel and violent misogynist who is ontologically indistinct from your average death eater. and i think it somewhat proves my point that neither of these ships work particularly well that this character assassination has to take place in order to make them plausible...]
and i think the flattening of harry and hermione's personalities within most harmony is the main thing which keeps the ship from being interesting. because - while i certainly don't go in for the common anti-harmony argument that harry actively dislikes hermione - it's undeniable that there is a lot about the two of them which wouldn't be conducive to a harmonious [lol] relationship.
their communication styles - hermione works through problems by debating them, harry prefers not to be challenged - are the obvious one. their ways of expressing affection - hermione shows people she cares about them by nagging them and meddling in their lives, harry very much does not - are another. they have extremely different views about authority, they decompress in different ways [harry is someone who clearly needs to keep physically active to clear his head, hermione is much more of a homebody], and harry's impulsiveness is a poor match for hermione's fondness for planning.
they are also similar in ways which would cause them to butt heads. both have a tendency towards obsessiveness, which they rely in canon on ron pulling them out of. both have a significant capacity for cruelty and extremely black-and-white moral codes - harry has a tendency towards forming judgements on people and situations based on whether they are people he likes or things he benefits from [i.e. how he's appalled by dobby's treatment because his masters are the malfoys, but doesn't give a shit about kreacher's because his abusive master is sirius], while hermione tends to regard any rule-breaking she does as justified even if she'd regard it as outrageous from anyone else [i.e. her fury over harry appearing to use felix felicis to improve's ron's performance at quidditch when she herself confunded cormac mclaggen to get him onto the team...]. both have a tendency towards giving people the silent treatment when they're angry. both are incredibly stubborn...
and so on.
obviously, they also have positive qualities in common too - a shared loyalty, for one - but it always seems to me that the standard move in harmony is for authors to completely ignore these conflicting traits, either really over-egging what makes harry and hermione compatible platonically in the books or just inventing similarities [especially intellectual ones] to justify the pairing. whereas i would much prefer to see just how difficult it would be for harry and hermione to fall and sustain being in love with each other, and i've never seen that done compellingly.
but the conflict i'd love to see explored in harmony fics most of all, but which never seems to be acknowledged by fans of the pairing, is that [despite the fanon slander that ron is the person who behaves poorly towards her] harry is often horrible to hermione and hermione is often scared of harry.
this is at its most profound after ron leaves the horcrux hunt in deathly hallows, but we see several times throughout canon that - if ron isn't there to mediate between them - harry often treats hermione in a way which can be considered downright cruel. if she criticises him in a way he considers unjustifiable, he tends to side with other people against her [ron in prisoner of azkaban over the firebolt; ginny in half-blood prince over snape's textbook]. if she tries to reason with him he often beats her down with the force of his emotions [i.e. when she tries to get him to think about whether his vision of sirius in the department of mysteries might be a trick] or his convictions [i.e. when he lures her into near-death by being certain that nagini is really bathilda bagshot], and she often ends up having to soothe or appease him when he's the one who's screamed at her.
hermione is also scared more generally of harry's experiences - she's by far the least amenable of the trio to talking about voldemort [even though she says his name earlier than ron does] - and mission, which puts up a barrier between them which will be difficult to bring down post-war. i think there's something which could be really interesting there - the most interesting dynamic in hinny, after all, is when harry and ginny's tendency to not actually be honest with each other is explored - but unfortunately at the minute that sort of character work is drowning in a sea of "ron is so stupid and harry and i just love talking about classic literature, come darling, put on your leather trousers and let us solve world hunger; i look like emma watson" nonsense.
dull!

(Idk if I should put a content warning but I’m going to just to be safe for; vague mentions of SA. Also this is just how I personally feel about dramione, ship whatever you want)
I will now and forever be a dramione hater, I hate how certain dramione shippers perceive Hermione.
Hermione “brightest witch of her age” Granger would NOT fall head over heels for the guy who bullied her and called her a slur for six years. Also, in what WORLD would Draco ever feel that way about Hermione? Draco was a spoilt little brat who hated muggleborns and thought they were subserviant to purebloods, it wasn’t a “playground crush”, he felt Hermione was beneath him(and NOT beneath him in the way that you guys try to push in fanfics)
Also, ALSO, if the only way you can make Draco a likable love interest is to bash Ron, maybe he’s just a bad love interest.
Don’t even get me STARTED on how heavily sexualized Hermione is sometimes, Jesus Christ it’s like her whole personality is just being a glory hole for Draco at any time of the day it’s GROSS, on that note the amount of SA, specifically of Hermione whether it be from Draco or a third character just to make Draco save her and be a cool good guy, which is in an abundance of dramione’s media is so gross. You give Draco the barest minimum of character development, sometimes not even that, then make Hermione basically just an one dimensional hole with no other characteristics except her sexual prowess, and that’s not saying you can’t make Hermione be comfortable with her sexuality, that’s great, but holy shit is that all she is, is that all the development she gets as a character in your mind??
To make it even worse, Draco is sometimes STILL a piece of shit to her, news flash guys “mudblood” isn’t a silly little insult in the Harry Potter world, it’s a derogatory slur!
It’s not even enemies to lovers! At all! Drarry is enemies to lovers! Dramione is just bully x bullied, oppressed x oppressor at the worst.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk ig, stan drarry and romione

what is your favorite romione fics and what are the ones you’ve written you like the most 👀👀👀👀👀 finding fics on archive have been impossible and a girl is desperate 🌞
Oooh chileeee *rolls up sleeves*
Okay, so I'm listing my all-time favorites below (mostly on FFN since it's been YEARS since I've been plugged into this fandom).
As for my stuff *buries head* this ridiculous ass fic that I wrote when I was FOURTEEN is my main claim to fame (it's trash but also still kinda slaps?). BUT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON A TON OF NEW STUFF. I have six fics coming out this month through the @romione-trope-fest (btw the best active Romione writers are participating in that fest, so you should definitely follow it if you haven't been already! Here's the AO3 collection for the fest.).
ALSO I saw that you are a Renaissance fan. I have one that's 50% done called "Virgo's Groove" and it takes place in the seventh book when Lupin announces Teddy's birth. I can share a snippet tomorrow if you'd like 🙂
Okay enough self promo lol. On to my recs!
Seven Simple Years by HalfASlug (FFN): Best Romione missing moments series ever. I think HalfASlug has the best Ron voice. Everything she's ever written for Romione is worth reading.
Moments by Armaysha (FFN): Another missing moments (I'm a sucker for those) that I feel kind of mixed about, even though it's still one of my favs. The writer has a different take on Romione than most of the fandom. It generally works IMO, but some of the choices she made I really didn't understand. But what she did well, she did really, really well.
I Must Not Tell Lies by TMBlue (FFN): I think this is the best one-shot of Romione's first fuck. TMBlue is GREAT at writing Ron and she's like the queen of Romione smut.
Six Foot of Ginger Idiot by Pinky Brown (FFN): This classic is HBP from Ron's perspective. Pinky Brown is another iconic Ron writer. You can't go wrong with anything she's written, but Biscuits (her missing moments series starting in Book 1) starts dragging in the last few chapters IMO.
Australia by MsBinns (FFN): Post-war series, arguably the greatest Romione fic of all time. To be totally honest, I didn't finish it because it does kind of drag. But I'm always meaning to get back into it. Just know that it's heavy.
Love Me Forever by Aloemilk (AO3/FFN): I JUST read this and I can't stop thinking about it. It's a post-war series that has a great mix of angst, trauma, and fluff (lighter than Australia). The slow burn from Romione's first kiss to a full-fledged adult relationship is perfect and the smut is SO GOOD. Reminds me of the time I stumbled upon porn that made me ugly cry (in a good way?)
Not single fics but thesecondself and realmer06 (both on FFN, although realmer06's next gen stuff is also on AO3) are my favorite one-shot writers.

I wrote some romione for the first time in forever.
This will be posted to AO3 eventually once my Internet decides it's not going to steal my social security number or something.
Read under the cut!!
@nena-96 this one is for you because that last ask you sent still makes me smile. :)))))
Her hands are cold, Ron realizes.
How does he know this? Because he's holding them. Or one of them, at least.
They sit in the common room, staring into the fire. Harry went to bed ages ago, and it's been the two of them here for several hours. They aren't even studying, what with Dumbledore's death and all.
Ron glances at the clock on the mantle, stifling a yawn, and Hermione looks at him.
“Merlin, Ron, I didn't realize the time!” she says. “I didn't mean to keep–”
“It's nothing,” Ron waves her off. “I can't really sleep, anyway.” Hermione gives a tired smile.
“We can be insomniacs together,” she says drily. Ron laughs lightly and gives her hand another squeeze.
“What are friends for?” He shrugs, and then pauses, glancing down at their conjoined hands. Hermione doesn't miss the gesture, and she bites her lip.
He stares at her a moment, thoughts racing in his mind.
The thing is… the thing is– that he doesn't really know what to call his relationship with the girl next to him. Best friends? Sure. But as far as he was concerned, friends didn't hold hands as often as they did. Friends didn't fall asleep in each other's arms and wake up tangled together.
But he and Hermione definitely weren't a couple. Not officially.
He wants them to be, though.
Sometimes he thinks about it. Sometimes he wonders what it would be like to be able to hold her, to kiss her, to love her openly without a care in the world.
Hermione lets go of his hand, and Ron immediately misses the warmth. She turns back to face the fire, leaning forward and resting her chin in her hands. They sit in silence for a long while before Hermione breaks it.
“What's going to happen?” She asks in a small voice, and Ron furrows his brow.
“What do you mean?”
“This– this war. With Dumbledore gone– I don't think Hogwarts is safe for me anymore, Ron.” Her voice breaks a little, and Ron’s heart constricts.
“We'll figure it out, ‘Mione,” he tells her, and she swallows before turning to face him.
“I don't know what to do. I may– what if I have to go into hiding? I don't want to hide forever.”
“I'll go with you,” Ron says automatically, and the instant the words leave his mouth he knows they're true.
Hermione stares at him for the briefest moment, and for a moment, Ron thinks she's about to start crying. But instead she leans upward and brushes her lips against his.
His first thought is that he wants to do this for the rest of his life. His hand lifts to cup her cheek, and he's certain, absolutely positive, that everything in his entire life has led to this moment.
They break apart, and Hermione looks equal parts shocked and elated.
“I've been waiting to do that for months,” she breathes. Ron grins.
“Honestly? So have I.”
And he kisses her again.

Happy birthday to the one and only @writcraft! I know you probably feel this year hasn’t been as productive as you’d like fandom-wise, so this is both a reminder and a token of appreciation, a short rec list that hopes to highlight a little bit of your immense contribution to fandom. This is ofc 100% self-indulgent and my picks might be a bit too obvious - I doubt that anyone who’s been around for a while hasn’t heard of these classics before, but those who are new to the fandom (or just new to Writ’s works - I’m so jealous!) might enjoy this “starter pack” with my personal selection of must-reads.
There’s a little bit of everything: Drarry, Snarry, femslash, dark fic, kinky fic, angst with a happy ending, romcom, hurt/comfort. No matter the tone or trope, they’re not only perfectly thought out and executed but they also deliver profound human experiences that resonates within, and thought-provoking explorations of romance, queerness and hope. I have often wondered how Writ could be so prolific over the years, always impressing me with such flawless depth of characterization across different ships. Now I realize this comes from the amount of passion and research they pour into their work. Writ commits to fandom - and to writing - both intellectually and emotionally, bringing together their creative, fannish, militant and intellectual sides like nobody else can do. This combination breathes life and heart into every love story they create, making them all bright and unique, inspiring universal emotions while remaining deeply personal.
Writ, I cannot thank you enough for being such a kind, witty and welcoming friend, always up to discuss fandom meta, gritty fic plots, old and new ship obsessions, dog parenting, queer & pop culture references! I learn so much from you and it’s a privilege (and a delight) to have someone to share both silly and deep, insightful convos with. Becoming friends with you - an author I’ve been admiring and looking up to for so many years now - still feels a bit surreal but it’s easily one of the best parts of 2022/2023 for me. I hope you enjoy your day to the fullest, and have an amazing time celebrating with yours. Happy birthday my friend! 💜

Food Fic Favorites: Rec List
@hprecipe-recfest
I love recommending fics! I’d love to share a few of my favorite stories that have either a recipe or story the theme is inspired by food.
(I’ll leave the links and summary along with the author’s names down below)
All You Knead Is Love - by @adenei [Jily, |M| , 104,969 words]
Lily is dealing with a major setback in her career as a pastry chef for reasons she'd rather not discuss. In an effort to forget the cards life has dealt her, she signs up for a baking competition.
James Potter has sworn off women forever, choosing instead to focus on managing the family foundation and using his billions to do some good in the world by way of his passion for food. (Also, loosely inspired by Pride and Prejudice)
Christmas Pudding - by @honouraryweasley12 Romione |T| 3,557 words]
Christmas is quickly approaching, and Ron has plans to do something sweet for Hermione. {Ron tries his best to recreate his mother’s flan just for Hermione, plus the ending is just the sweetest!}
Double Hazelnut Almond Milk Macchiato - @be11atrixthestrange [Romione |G| 1,385 words]
Meet/cute, Coffee shop AU. Technically this isn’t a food fic, it’s more of a beverage rec, but it does share the ingredients to a lovely treat (although I still haven’t tried it) this fic is simply adorable, and will have you craving a delicious Macchiato,
I hope you take time and check out all three of these lovely stories and make sure to like, comment, reblog, subscribe to show your appreciation. Each one of these authors are talented in their own unique way. They all deserve the recognition for their amazing work and dedication into creating such a beautiful story.
Hopefully you enjoy these recs just like I do (yes, I still fangirl over them and I don’t think I’ll be able to stop 😅) and check out their other stories, you will not be disappointed at all! And I hope that these authors know that they are extremely talented and to never let anyone say otherwise.
❤️

Thank you chefs!

Random Taylor Swift songs that align with Harry Potter Ships (joking… kind of…)
Random TS songs that align with Harry Potter ships.
Cardigan: Romione during Half blood prince and Deathly hallows during the lavender debacle and the locket incident. Literally that yes they were endgame and somebody got between them with a silly stupid romance that seemed ridiculous.
The 1: Hinny during Deathly Hallows before they realised they were endgame like that *kiss* on Harry’s birthday and his whole marauders map pining thingy
August: Hinny during the half blood prince era. Not that Harry was cheating on anybody, I just like the wistful lyrics about summer love and I think that matches up with early Hinny as basically both are trying to forget everything and just live their youth now before reality catches up to them.
Enchanted: Cho x Harry during Harry’s pining era. It’s just funny and also Cho is in ravenclaw so her skill set is enchantment. Harry’s POV btw.
Blank Space: Bellatrix Black for some stupid reason. I dunno. Just the way she goes full mad woman on Randolphus and Voldie.
Love Story: Astoria x Draco? IDK I guess I kind of got the reverse roles where Astoria kind of sweeps Draco off his feet and his parents don’t approve of her because Astoria is kind of a happy, life-ful person who rejects pure bloodism and they end up together.
You Belong With Me ((edited)): I know I said hinny before but NO. YBWM is about Deamus. Seamus wants Dean. He's known dean forever. They literally live in the same dorm together and knows everything about him. And this new girl Ginny picks up Dean and they date leaving a very annoyed and bitter Seamus. Of course Dean realises who's been here all along and it's SEAMUS!!!!!!!!!!!

I really love ron i do, fandom has put him through shit for a long time. But now a days i feel ron's fans has become what hermione's die hard fan used to be. I visited some blogs most of them were shitting on ginny( this thing is quite vicious on quora)and harry too in some( less than ginny OFCOURSE) Some even tried to alleviate ron and harry's friendship at the expense of ginny. What gets me when people said harry and hermione are more imp to ron than ginny. And OFCOURSE ginny will be only second to ron in Harry's life. I used to like hermione really but because of her arse worshipping fans i sort of drifted apart from her and now i am worried same thing will happens with ron.
Yeah, I noticed this too.
I was in the Marauders fandom for a very long time so I knew in general what was going on with the trio era side of the fandom, like the crazy Hermione stans but I wasn't involved. I always really liked Ron and I always felt bad for the treatment the fandom gave him. But then when I got into the trio era side of the fandom a few years ago I found out that Ron's stans had become insane too.
It's one of the reasons I've never been able to get into the romione fandom despite the fact I've always really liked romione, it's too much a combination of two incredibly obnoxious fanbases.
As for who is more important to whom, in HBP there's a whole theme about Harry choosing Ginny over Ron. And in the last two books, it's made very clear that if Ron really needs to choose between Harry and Ginny, he is going to choose Ginny (and I'm pretty sure Harry himself would kill him if he didn't). One of the things it's important to understand to comprehend the evolution of Ron and Harry's friendship is that when Harry properly falls for Ginny, their friendship changes forever because for the first time, there's a person they both care more about than they care about the other. Ron and Harry have four proper confrontations in the books, and three of those are about Ginny, and there's a reason.
If you are a Ron stan you should be the first to acknowledge this, because it's super important in order to understand the fight in the tent, to truly understand where he is coming from in that argument.
It really sucks when a character you like has obnoxious fans. Though, I think the Hermione and the Ron stans come from two different places.
If I had to make a political analogy, I'd probably say that Hermione's fanatics are a far-right cult while Ron's stans are a minority that got radicalised after years of oppression.
But to be clear, I don't think this was the case for the person who reblogged my post expressing their opinion (if that was the post that brought you to write this ask), they seemed quite polite and not unreasonable even if I disagreed with them.
