Being Mixed Matched Challenge Partners with Cody Rhodes Headcanons

Summary: The Mixed Matched Challenge is back in the WWE (I wish that were true! It was so cute and fun to watch) The first few weeks into the challenge your partner, who just so happens to be Cody Rhodes, and yourself take part in fun and funny moments on camera/the live stream and off camera before the in ring matches take place.

A/N: This is my first headcanon story post. I hope I wrote it correctly (format wise, if that makes sense? ) My inspiration for this came from the gif above of Charlotte Flair and Bobby Roode and thought they had cute and great chemistry when they were a team back when Mixed Matched Challenge was a thing in the wwe. I thought it would make a cute story idea and my love for Cody is super duper strong, I thought he would be perfect for this story idea. Plus, I want to write more of Cody because it seems fun. I love him so much. I hope you enjoy.

Cody and you swap gear attire which means that you,(the reader) try on his robe / jacket as it ends up being a bit too big on you, but you find it quite comfortable -as Cody tries on your vest, but struggles to put it on all the way due to the fact of how smaller and petite you are, compared to him being slightly taller than you and bigger-which isn't a bad thing.

"Y/n?! I think your vest is too small. I c-can't button it up all the way. I don't want to break your clothing."

You giggle as you glance over at Cody and agree with what he said as you try and help him,"You're good, Cody! No worries. How about this, let’s get matching jackets and win the Mixed Matched Challenge." You winked at the camera before exiting as Cody waved and followed suit behind you.

Cody and you make a video recording for the WWE universe the day before MMC, where the two of you announce that you both will be on the MMC livestream tomorrow and want to have the fans ask questions about your team,

"You guys can ask us questions like, what jacket would you like Cody and I to wear tomorrow? Ooh ooh! Would you like to see Cody recreate my entrance?" You ask while looking up at Cody, as he glanced at you as he chuckles softly, which causes you to smile brightly.

"Hey, c'mon, I think I would do amazingly fantastic at recreating your entrance. I think I'd nail it." Cody says, as he smirked down at you and chuckled.

You playfully put your finger atop of your chin and thought of a really cool idea to add onto what Cody just said, "Ooh now that you mention it, I think hitting the iconic 'woah!' In the American Nightmare's entrance would be a blast to recreate."

The following night on Smackdown, right before MMC started, you were out giving a promo in ring since you were the Smackdown women's champion and all. However, your moment was cut short by The Judgment Day's Rhea Ripley and Finn Balor as the two started to corner you in ring, leaving you defenseless... or so you thought.

"Wrestling has more than one royal family..." Rhea and Finn were surprised as they quickly turned their attention around and watched as who was about to make an entrance.

Your frown was quickly turned into a bright smile the second you saw the tron screen turn to black for a few minutes, and as soon as the voice over and song began to play throughout the arena.

Cody was there to save you from what mostly Rhea had in mind to do to you. As soon as you saw Cody walk to the ring, you placed your hands on your chest as the smile on your face grew by the second. Rhea and Finn scurried out of the ring for a moment as soon as Cody entered the ring and joined your side.

"Are you okay, Y/n? Ready to win against these two?" Cody whispers to you as he wraps his arm around your shoulder, causing you to blush.

You smile even more and nod your head. "I'm so much better now that you are here. And yes absolutely, we can take them!" You two glance back at both Ripley and Balor as they continue to stand outside the ring still for a second more, planning out their strategies against you two.

They just so happen to be your MMC opponents and it was just about that time for the challenge to start.

Rhea and Finn slid back into the ring and continued to stare at Cody and you, as you two did the same at them. You leaned towards Cody and whispered in his ear, "After we win this match, are you ready to win the whole thing?"

"For you? I'm always ready to win anything for!" Cody smiles and winks at you. The challenge was on now.

Scaffolding that shrouded the top of Notre Dame Cathedral following a devastating fire in April 2019 is being removed, marking a milestone in its reconstruction.

Archaeologists at the Notre-Dame Cathedral unearthed a lead sarcophagus and fragments of the temple's ancient rood screen, offering a rare insight into the history of the world-famous cathedral currently under reconstruction after a devastating fire in 2019. One of the first finds was a fully preserved anthropomorphic lead sarcophagus was found, which archaeologists say probably belonged to a high dignitary and could date back to the 14th century. “We were able to send a small camera inside which showed cloth remains, organic matter such as hair and plant remains,” said Christophe Besnier from France's National Archaeological Institute on Tuesday. “The fact that these plants are still there indicates that the contents have been very well-preserved.” Notre Dame commissioned the excavation works inside the church as a precautionary measure ahead of the installation of a giant scaffolding needed to restore the around 100-metre-high wooden roof ridge.

Sligo Abbey (1253CE)

& Garavogue River, Sligo, Ireland (2023)

Though this church is commonly known as Sligo Abbey it was a Dominican Friary. It was founded in 1252 by Maurice FitzGerald who also founded the town of Sligo. The church itself is a nave and chancel structure aligned to east (95°), the two sections were divided by a rare example of rood screen, which was built in the 15th century and has now been partially rebuilt, a feature not very common in the Irish churches. In the nave there are seven elegant grave slabs set into the north wall and the wonderful burial place of O'Crean family, dated 1506, with a pointed arch canopy decorated with a fine tracery. The chest tomb is decorated with figures of saints beneath ornated cusped arches. Past the rood screen is the belfry tower. In the chancel there are two slabs set into the north wall. In the south wall there are 5 windows and a family tomb. In the north wall is a recess with fragments of others slabs decorated with human and animal figures. Against the east wall, under the four lights window, there's a beautiful altar ornated with the same cusped arches of the O'Crean family, but with no saints. Above the altar in the south wall there's the magnificent tomb of the Sir Donagh O'Conor, Lord of Sligo, and his wife Lady Elinor Butler. The two figures kneel in prayer and around them symbols of death and afterlife, their coats of arms and a crucifixion complete the memorial. Sir O'Conor had a good influence with Queen Elizabeth and this saved the friary from the dissolution and destruction. Under the belfry tower there's a passage to north to the cloister, built in the 15th century, which survives for three quarters of its walks. The columns of the cloister walk are in different shapes and styles and some of them have small carving, like a human face, a ram's head and a Love Knot in the north walk. North of the cloister on the first floor there was the refectory, where friars had their meals. At this level there's the Reader's Desk, from which the scriptures were read to friars during the meals or during the meditation in the cloister. The friary continued to live until the 17th century.

Notre Dame’s Uncovered Tombs Start to Reveal Their Secrets

Two sarcophaguses unearthed in reconstruction work after 2019 fire identified as elite canon of cathedral and young cavalier

Two lead sarcophaguses discovered buried under the nave at Notre Dame Cathedral in what was described as an “extraordinary and emotional” find have begun giving up their secrets, French scientists announced on Friday.

The first contains the remains of a high priest who died in 1710 after what experts say appeared to be a sedentary life. The occupant of the second has not yet been identified – and may never be – but is believed to be a young, wealthy and privileged noble who could have lived as far back as the 14th century.

The tombs were uncovered as part of a cache of statues, sculptures and fragments of the cathedral’s original 13th-century rood screen buried under the floor of the transept crossing at the heart of the cathedral that was ravaged by fire in April 2019.

The burial sites were described as of “remarkable scientific quality” and were found after a preventive dig under the floor where heavy scaffolding is to be erected to install the cathedral’s new spire.

While most of the treasures were discovered barely 20cm (8in) under the cathedral floor, a body-shaped lead sarcophagus was buried one metre deep.

Once opened by specialists in Toulouse, it was found to contain what was left of a man, probably in his 30s, who researchers have named “Le Cavalier”, as his pelvic bones suggest he was an experienced horseman.

There was no name plaque on the coffin, which was moulded around the shape of the body, and holes in the lead around the head meant the remains had been exposed to the air and severe deterioration.

Scientists are continuing to examine fragments of cloth and plant material found inside the coffin and say he was embalmed – a rare practice in the middle ages – and appears to have been buried with a crown of flowers.

A brass plaque on the second lead sarcophagus, also exposed to the air and water infiltration from the historic flooding of the Seine in 1910, confirmed that it contained the remains of Antoine de la Porte, the canon of Notre Dame Cathedral who died on Christmas Eve 1710 aged 83.

Eric Crubézy, professor of biological anthropology at the University of Toulouse III, who oversaw the cutting open of the coffins, said the two men were clearly important in their respective eras to have been buried in such prestigious tombs at the heart of the cathedral.

The unknown cavalier would have been a member of “the elite” at the time of his death to have been interred at the foot of the large cross on the since-destroyed rood screen, an ornate partition between the chancel and the nave that separated the clergy and choir from the congregation. Most rood screens were removed from France’s Catholic churches during the Counter-Reformation in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The young man had suffered a “chronic disease” that had destroyed most of his teeth by the time he died, Crubézy told journalists. “He would have had a difficult end of life.” The dead aristocrat also had a deformation of the skull caused by wearing a headdress or headband as a baby.

Christophe Besnier, who headed the scientific team for the dig carried out by France’s national archaeological institute, Inrap, told a press conference: “If the date of his death was around the second half of the 16th century or early 17th century, we may be able to identify him in the death register that we have. If it’s earlier than that, we probably won’t ever know who he was.”

Unlike the cavalier, de la Porte had “extraordinarily good teeth”, Crubézy said. “They were remarkable for his age. We see this very rarely, but he clearly cleaned his teeth and took care of them.”

De la Porte was rich, influential and not only commissioned several works of art that are now in the Louvre, including a painting by Jean Jouvenet entitled The Mass of Canon Antoine de la Porte, but paid 10,000 livres – a small fortune at the time – for the renovation of the choir of Notre Dame Cathedral. Part of the destroyed rood screen was used in constructing his tomb.

After fire swept through the 850-year-old cathedral, one of Paris’s most symbolic and visited monuments, in April 2019, almost destroying the entire edifice, President Emmanuel Macron pledged to have it rebuilt and open for mass in five years.

The Inrap team was called in to carry out a “preventive dig” under a section of the cathedral floor between February and April before a 30 metre-high, 600-tonne scaffold was built to reconstruct the monument’s spire. The archaeologists were given a strict timeframe and only a specific area in which to carry out the excavation.

Dominique Garcia, president of Inrap, reiterated that the human remains were not “archaeological objects” and would be treated “with respect from beginning to end” of the research before being returned to Paris for the culture ministry to decide what would happen to them.

This post is meant to serve as a starting point for potential interactions and is not all-inclusive! If you have any thoughts or want to suggest something that’s not on here, please feel free to bring it up! I’m certainly open for things not on this list.

Dynamics That I’d Like To Explore*

Professional Friendships / Acquaintances - with other Champions, League Trainers, Frontier Brains, etc. (It’s worth nothing that she does her research so she’s usually up to date on who the League-affiliated trainers are in each region). It would be neat to figure out what the different regions can learn from each other. If our muses are both part of the Unova League, I’d love to explore their dynamic (which will be based on Rosa’s view of them before she became champion, and which can definitely change based on present interactions). Also, any muses that are in the show business, as she is a famous actress (and I don’t get to do enough with that). Maybe our muses are playing parts in the same movie or play? Or maybe your muse is into contests (of which Rosa knows next to NOTHING about) and they want to show Rosa the ropes?

Recognition - Rosa has plenty of star power in Unova due to her work with Pokéstar Studios and her status as Champion. Her movies are broadcast in other regions as well, so it’s entirely possible for a non-Unovan muse to recognize her just from seeing her on the silver screen. I’m open to her meeting both fans and critics alike. Additionally, she has recently become a Pasio Ambassador (more on that soon), so her face might be recognizable that way.

Rivalries - with other trainers of equal caliber. The other muse doesn’t need to be a Champion-level trainer for this dynamic to exist. There are plenty of powerful trainers out there that just don’t bother with League challenges and Rosa would be excited to come across them.

Former Plasma ties - whether that be former grunts that have had a change of heart like her or grunts that stuck to it and followed Ghetsis to Neo Plasma, relationships of this nature can be either friendly or antagonistic. Additionally, she holds great respect for some former Plasma members (such as sage Rood, Anthea, Concordia, and N) and disdain for others (like Zinzolin), as well as fear of the Shadow Triad and Ghetsis himself.

Antagonistic - this goes hand in hand with the second half of the above, but it can obviously extend to other villain muses (though she would only know that villain muses outside of Unova are villains if it’s something that the mun agrees would have been all over the news at the point in time that interactions occur). Her views of Interpol are also swayed toward the negative, based on her past experiences with Agent Hale Foster and her mother being placed under house arrest briefly during the events of B2W2. Additionally, she has pissed off many a pokémon poacher in Unova due to her efforts to eradicate them from her region (which is actually important to an upcoming plot I have planned out for her).

Found family - her own blood family isn’t very big (reserved mostly to her mother and some family in Lentimas Town; her father is back in Paldea) so I love the idea of her coming to love her friends like family

Mentor/Mentee - with Rosa filling either of the roles at the corresponding points in her timeline. If she meets trainers from newer generations, she’s bound to take them under her wing. Likewise, if she meets more experienced elites and champions, she will welcome the idea of learning from their experience.

Simple friendships - maybe both our muses are into some sort of common hobby or enjoy the same type of music / movies or maybe they just like to get together to gossip or enjoy dessert together, lots of slice of life stuff.

Romantic relationships are not completely off the table but they require an extra layer of development and comfort between Rosa and other muses (and good/regular communication between myself and other muns).

Places Where Rosa Can Be Found*

Hoenn - she has to travel to Hoenn occasionally for the hot springs to ease the lingering pain from Kyurem’s unmelting ice-induced wounds. She loves to explore the Hoenn wilderness, though… and Meteor Falls is one of her favorite places ever.

Anywhere around Unova - she doesn’t spend all her time in the League. She constantly bounces between the preserves she established (White Forest and Icirrus), the Bring Us Together Foundation she established to help return Plasma-stolen pokémon to their previous owners (Driftveil), and Pokéstar Studios (Virbank). Her primary (but not public-known) residence is in Village Bridge and her secondary (but officially known) residence is in Nimbasa. Sometimes she goes as far as the Trainer’s School (Aspertia) to talk to younger would-be trainers and tends to take some of Cheren’s classes to capture their first pokémon in Floccessy.

Kalos - she spent some time training in Kalos prior to challenging the Unova E4 and Iris. She also occasionally travels for film-related business or gets dragged along to Lumiose by Blue ( @evoblue ) on shopping trips.

Galar - after a few years of championship (and an unwanted encounter with an obsessed fan that COULD have been bad), she takes a sabbatical and decides to disappear from the grid. She travels to Galar to train and explore the area, and also to spectate on the gym challenge.

Paldea - after learning from her mother that her father is of Paldean origins, she embarks on a trip to learn more about her father’s country of origin in an attempt to understand the man whose absence has always been a painful void in her life. Her mom claims he was a good man, though, so that counts for something.

*While Rosa has never officially been to Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, or Alola, she is open to visiting any of these regions. Johto in particular calls her interest due to the rich history and lore behind all the legendaries (as history and mythology were part of her studies while growing up).

Timelines

For the most part, Rosa’s threads will happen in the post B2W2 timeline / during her time as Champion. If you have a Unovan muse and are interested in writing something taking place during the plot of B2W2, I am open to discussion!

Commentary on the "Pardner" project

Before I mention the musical number project, fair warning that this will get personal. I worked on this project during the month of Ramadan when I could not leave home, which resulted in some mental anguish. But I won't get into details since it is pretty much self-explanatory if you're queer. FYI: This is long af. Lots to say.

Background:

I've been drawing fan illustrations/fan comics for 15 years. I never once reference anything from my cultural background. Wild, I know. One of the reasons why I have yet to do so until now was that there wasn't a desi-inspired character that I would enjoy as much as Frye, especially from a franchise that I had adored since day one when I was broke and just started college. There was no way 17 years old me would believe an inkling idol with a Desi background would be a thing and not be offensive. I know some voiced their issues with Frye's design, but after looking through the art book, I am GLAD this was the design they approved. I won't talk about colorism/racism in this post. Don't want to get into the social issues. This is a representation that I'm okay with, and it is a positive one.

So, I grew up watching musicals, whether it is from Disney or Bollywood/other box-office desi movies. Music is a pretty biggie dealie for yours truly. Gosh, I remember in elementary/grade school, I had a classmate who had the same energy as Frye and did the teeth thing as she brought a tape to school. She shared "Lal Dupatta" with the homeroom teacher on the school CRT tv. She was dancing and singing along with the song and tried to have me join in the festivity. But I was and am a shy girl, so I couldn't do it. I did enjoy her enthusiasm and the song. This was something I culturally understood. I felt connected.

Reminiscing that moment, I declared that I should reference one musical number that would fit in the Splatoon universe. For her sake and mine.

Old musical number:

One rule I had while I was searching for a song was that I didn't want the song to be too culturally specific or ignorant of stereotypes. So, no dancing. In the future, I'll draw Deep Cut dancing but nothing culturally significant until I do some well-deserving research before flinging myself into the fiery pits of hell. I learned my lesson internet, lol.

I had one specifically in mind before the partner song. More romantic implications, but it had one person singing. No duet. Sure, BM would appear more, but it would be just him playing an instrument while Shiver singing. Then I would have them crashing together while Frye witnessed this whole shebang at a distance. I also planned to add the Squidbeak Squad be the peanut gallery and have Craig do the "Harold, they're gay" joke. That was the initial idea until I stumbled upon a better one.

New musical number:

After eating my dinner, I passed by my mother while she watched Sholay. During that time, Mom was watching movies from the 60s and 70s on youtube. One was nostalgia, and the other was missing out on some or does not remember some of the stories. Sholay, particularly, caught my attention because the silver fox daddy, Sanjeev Kumar, appeared on the screen. Rood af, bruv. I know, thirst trap.

Seeing him in this movie triggered a memory where Dad showed me a motorcycle scene. I remember Kishore Da was the singer for that song, but that scene was from a different movie. A similar concept of two buddies riding on a motorcycle together, but the energy wasn't there. Out of curiosity, I ended up watching Sholay with Mom.

After viewing the friendship song, I shot up with excitement. "THIS! This one screams them!" As I initially said in the main post, I sought that chaotic energy. Two morally good-leaning thieves sing in a duet about their friendship while being a menace to society. That's THEM!

I know BM is an essential member of Deep Cut, but I'm not considering the movie but this specific score. If this project was about the movie, I would have DJ Octavio as Silver Fox Daddy, and BM would be Shiver's romantic interest. I did have plans on doing so in a separate post, but I gave up on that thought because I became exhausted after drawing eight pages of Fryver. I thought this would take me at least three weeks to draw. Instead, it was more than a month! I couldn't continue because of the lack of going to the gym, a month's worth of fasting, and in the middle of the holy month, I got sick from a stomach virus. Sorry BM. I want to tackle some other projects right now, and as promised, there will be more of him.

4 became 6, then 7, and finally 8:

Initially, I had the project divided into four pages. These were the four:

While drawing the four, I debated whether I should add in the coin toss scene. At that time, I could not figure out who could fill the village girl role until I was gobsmacked, realizing how slow and stupid I could be. I thought BM for the longest time, but he's too nice. If the coin rejects the idea of sleeping, he will give them the signature bear hug instead of waddling away. I want these two to be dunked on, especially after stealing his icy pop. "I'm upset that the dastardly duo stole my ice cream, but FRIENDS!!!" That kind of energy is NOT needed for this goof.

Once I figured out that the cousins could fill the Village girl role, the project became six pages long. I left that as a bonus. I acknowledge some people ship each of the cousins with Shiver/Frye. I nodded in some parts, like Callie's blushing. Hopefully, this bonus one was respectful enough. I didn't want to offend anyone.

At this point, I was confident that I was done until I realized there was no introduction to this project. Who the hell would know this 48-year-old movie reference? Very few. Which is fine. I don't know many pop cultural references. If you mention something about star wars, I would go whomst. Not a musical? Disengage, lol. I am not a movie buff to begin with. Music (folk metal plz) and (indie) games I fuck with. Anyway, I drew the introduction to the sketch dump:

I've laid the chorus across on the top. The background is straight out of the game (you got me bent sideways if you expected me to draw a unique background. Like, I'm insane, but not THAT insane.) I drew the characters that appeared in the sketch dump. These three stealing the show. How the hell did I draw this in one go?:

Damn, this hand. They're too cute for any school.

After, I've drawn the introduction. Surely, at this point, I'm done with this project. Nope. There is no conclusion. Can't have an introduction without a conclusion. Gotta include an ending. So, I contemplated. While doing that, I cleaned up some of the sketches, and I shared a part of the WIP with my partner, jokingly stating:

She was right. To close this project, it's literally sealed with a kiss. Why didn't I think of that?! Maybe because I assume they ARE together.

Despite being romantic, I often don't draw two characters kissing. I drew four kisses, including this one, within 15 years of actively drawing. I guess either I'm not confident at drawing that, or it's not a huge part of my love language. Also, it can't help when your girl towers over you. Usually, it's me receiving not giving. I need to carry a ladder around to kiss, lol.

At last, I drew the kiss. And boi, isn't it dramatic, huh? Nonetheless, It's thematic. I can finally close this project for good...? *Nervously laughing* There's more coming.

Additional Thoughts:

Fryver: If they're partners in crime, then they gotta gay equally. I made sure both of them had their moment in the spotlight. For example, in the coin toss scene, I initially had Frye flipping the coins. But, after drawing four pages where Frye leads some parts more than Shiver. Break the role and have Shiver take charge in this scene.

It works well, especially Shiver using their hand as a fan while simultaneously displaying the coins. This was before the art book! Pure coincidence that a character I finalized happens to like counting money in their pass time. This entire time, I thought BM was the money person. Big Man, big money. Big Man: Before the introduction page, BM only appeared once in the "MY ICECREAM" scene. This was drawn after the introduction:

The idea of having BM playing the trumpet while he perches on top of a moving truck, it's fucking hilarious. He rather not risk his life whenever either of the two operates a vehicle, but he's okay with playing incidental music on the roof of a stranger's car. Sure, buddy. You do you, lol. Squid Sisters: I have a project I want to do about the cousins. I am still determining how long that will take, but it's pretty long. I want to start something small.

This was my first time drawing them. I've drawn the other idols. Although chibi Marina should not count as adequately drawn. I do have an Off the Hook comic I want to work on. First, I need to write the script!

This was the first panel I drew before I worked on the other panels. This is basically my sister and me whenever we encounter someone we don't like or don't have the energy to engage. Lil sis will give her signature fake smile, and I'll give a stank look. No mask, no filter. I'm glad I could capture the dichotomy of the cousins in a single frame.

Final Thoughts:

There were moments when I wanted to give up entirely on this project. Negative thoughts such as, "No one would bat an eye at this," repeatedly. But as a perfectionist, I hate unfinished work. My work specifically. I persevered by telling myself, "Just do it for yourself."

It was a good drawing exercise. I want to get better at drawing these characters. Get to know and understand them better. I've abandoned trying to draw in Splatoon's anatomical proportions. Not my style, lol.

I'm happy that I drew the kiss. After sketching, yes sketching, seven pages, I was exhausted. I got sick in the middle of the fasting, unable to leave home because of fasting. It was too much (it's a good thing, I work remotely from home.) BUT. It's not gay, ya know. I'VE got to draw the SMOOCH. Or else this project will be trapped in the "gal pals" limbo. Also, not me struggling to NOT be wed to a cishet desi man. Anyone that is queer, plz.

Sigh. I had to draw this kiss secretly, away from my parents' prying eyes. I don't want them to question why I'm drawing two bipedal cephalopods kissing, let alone it being gay. And for whatever reason, they keep entering my office and staring at my monitors. I am a professional graphic designer, too. Let me work in peace!

Honestly, talk about a mood. Especially when you're in a long-distance relationship. Five years in a romantic relationship and will be nine years in a platonic relationship with my partner in crime.
