Magical Victorian Cat Mansion. Redone.

Part I: Exteriors | Part II

So after the long-awaited addition of Infants and Ceilings to the game, I realized I should probably update my one furnished build (so far) for these features. Unfortunately I got carried away again and just ended up revamping the whole build from the exterior, to each individual room + some new ones! This version has also been more extensively play-tested over time with all age groups and pets, with some extra fire hazard and accessibility issues addressed.

It still has all the original Lot Features:

Portals! Small library located off the spell-room has been converted into the Portal Room with 3 portals leading throughout the house: one to the tower on the roof, one to the greenhouse in the back, and one to the third floor hall.

Moved Magic Realm Portal to rooftop garden

Put more cat doors everywhere, they enjoy using the catdoors and portals for zoomies

Sprinklers, alarms, and fire resistant flooring have been added around fireplaces.

Fireplace in the tower was removed for it's propensity to set the roof on fire and become unreachable and inextinguishable

Tower room has been converted into a Collections display room instead, a la sims 3

Portal in the tower/Collections room also makes potential burglaries more threatening, but if you’re an occult you’re expected to employ practical DADA techniques to avert this

Updated Nursery and Playroom for Infants

Redid terrain paint. Twice. Why tf does it just vanish randomly sometimes

NEW Magic Bean Hunt! Stump is located where the magic realm portal used to be and beans are strategically hidden around the lot. I'd love to see how long it takes for you to catch them all!

Washbasins for rooms without bathrooms now look like washbasins and are actually useable, both on and off grid

Added privacy hedges and lattices to backyard and fenced in chicken run

Potions Crafting Table added to Spell-room

Crafters Supply Cabinet added to Kitchen

Pocketed pocket doors

Secret Cat Room color scheme updated and cat-approved artwork added

Another Cat room added to 3rd floor

Magic Well has been shrunk

Rooftop area outside 3rd floor Study converted into rooftop Pavilion with chessboard and painting easel

Jack-and-Jill bathroom added for two of the third floor bedrooms

Toilet room removed and bath added for staff washrooms, for an equal 2-toilet/2-bath arrangement, which means the build now has a total of 7 full baths, and 8 toilets.

More crafting tables (fizz machine and candle maker) added to Staff Lounge

Yoga/Meditation Balcony for staff above greenhouse

Small telescope added to rooftop outside tower room’s new 2nd door

Garden lights around yard configured for power + off grid lighting

‘Bike racks’ added by front gate

New Library shelves seem to allow sims to retrieve books but not put them back. However this is actually a feature, not a bug, since now you can put the books back yourself on on the right shelves and keep things organized 🙃

Should now be consistently able to feed and be eaten by the Cowplant

Homey trait replaced by Gnome lot trait since there is a proliferation of gnomes

Gifts Part 2! Uploading Old/Unavailable TS2 Exchange Items: Lots by tkelley0000

Disclaimer: These lots were originally uploaded to the now-defunct Exchange back in 2004 or 2005 by an inactive creator. I do not claim them as my own, rather I am uploading them in their original state to preserve them.

Been a while since I’ve uploaded some lost TS2 Exchange lots, hasn’t it? Well, a 200 follower celebration is a chance to do just that! So here are the only two lots I have from a builder named tkelley0000 who specialized in ranch-style homes. (Note: I’ve used LotCleaner and Clean Pack Installer to remove any unwanted items).

Country Retreat by tkelley0000 (5x5 lot, $128,000)

First up is pretty much as perfect an example of “traditional architecture” as you could get with the Base Game. Everything is well balanced. The floorplan is large but not unwieldy, the second floor is perfectly tucked into the roof, and the whole thing is built on grade, with a walkout basement leading to a pool and hot tub area. Because this is built on a 5x5 lot, there are a ton of trees, which make it feel like the property is enclosed by a forest. Hire a gardener, or download a falling leaves mod. And although the garage is only 4-tiles wide, you can actually fit a driveway between the home and the road. Make it invisible, delete a shrub or two, and you are in business. This 2004 lot deserves to be played 19 years later.

Happy Endings by tkelley0000

Next is Happy Endings, another ranch home, this time fully furnished and made with University. It is pretty big floorplan for a two bedroom home, but all the rooms are spacious and you can easily add in objects from the rest of the EPs and SPs. Made when only one EP was released, its interior could be described as a mix-n-match style, which was necessary as the number of objects to choose from was much more limited in 2005. The builder wasn’t concerned with matching every exact tone, and I think this works in the lot’s favor. My favorite feature is the large, long deck that leads to another pool and hot tub space and uses the gothic Uni table set. I’ve had this lot in my saves since it was first uploaded it, but I never moved a family into it. Might be time to change that. (And yes, the stained shingles from my 3t2 Quaint Cottage come from this lot)

this genuinely kept me awake a bit last night until I realised what was happening and stopped trying to recall every show that ever struck me right in the feels or shaped me lol and yes, I know no one asked for any reasoning behind it but when you've mulled it over all bloody day long, you feel like sharing :P

M*A*S*H - used to be on everyday at 7 and my mum had adored it when she was younger so brought me and my sister up on it, still makes me laugh and cry to this day.

Star Trek TNG (& Picard which might be cheating but really is just an extension all told) - loved all the Trek's, Honourable Mention goes to ToS because kid!me loved it so much, only to have TNG blow the roof off my head. Lt Cmdr Data was my first love and I am unashamed ;)

Red Dwarf - for many reasons but mainly Arnold Rimmer (more reliable than a garden Strimmer, he's never been mistaken for Yul Brynner - he's not bald and his head doesn't glimmer...) who my teenage self was certain could be redeemed with the power of love, or a very determined snogging if nowt else.

The Good Place - because I (and many of us) needed it as a concept, whether for personal growth, coping with grief or just cos 'forking shirtballs' never gets any less funnier for me.

Firefly - the best show to ever be cancelled before it's writer could ruin it. I adored the show and the ensuing film, mourned its early cancellation for YEARS until I heard about Whedon's general twattishness and what had been his intentions for the series and characters, now am happy it exists as it is, still problematic but so worthy in so many ways, and on that awkward note...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - problematic on 800 gazillion levels in this day and age but still a forerunner of many awesome things to follow and I'd be lying if I said I hadnt been glued to it, obsessed with it, shipping folks, dling the soundtrack, buying the jewelry etc and even now if I see a reaction vid on YT for S5 I can't help myself but watch and weep along with them.

Merlin (BBC) - Umm'd and Ahh'd over this for bloody ages lol but it was my happy place (literally, had a run of bad years as have we all, so I'd watch an ep before bed every night to make me smile) and it got me through the difficulties I had right up to the finale where they took me and my happy place out back and shot it in the face in front of me lol. Despite my escapism route being put down in those heinous raw weeks immediately following a parents funeral, I'm still listing it here for being wonderful, silly, heartening and heartbreaking, whilst giving every last Fuck You to the writers for their surprise, abruptly canon-compliant ending.

Stargate SG1 - daft sci fi with it's heart trying hard to be in the right place plus eminently shippable characters in almost every combo going? Yes, please.

Heroes - because I was OBSESSED. It picked me up out of my OTP in a diff fandom (sorry drarry, I still love you honest) drained me of any and all urge to write for anything but them ever again until it got shat on by its own writers, breaking the spell.

Brooklyn 99 - NINE-NINE. *sadly doffs cap to Captain Holt*

King of the Hill - from a show I used to avoid when I was younger to one I ration myself viewswise so it won't lose it's impact. Superb.

Schitts Creek - only watched due to encountering a clip on tumblr of Moira's stonefaced manaical laughter and ended up crying with happiness over the finale, am an easy crier sure, but not normally because something is just so lovely.

Cheers - was only a kid when it finished but I bawled my face off when Sam said 'sorry, we're closed' (was too young to know it'd be repeated ad infinitum lol) and the opening theme still feels like coming home.

Golden Girls - sole reason D+ gets any money from me, the bastards, it was my only access for a bit there but it was worth it, lightyears ahead of it's time and just wonderful to boot.

Parks & Rec - somewhere my sister is elated with no clue why. Took her years to talk me into it, but having watched it on repeat a few times, I now can't live without Leslie, Ben & Ron.

Other honourable mentions (sorry I know, longpost, my bad) go to Quantum Leap for being a daily delight growing up, What We Do in the Shadows which would have made the list but I've only just got around to watching it and am only on S3 so have yet to find out if it's going to rip my heart out, Eerie Indiana for getting me started hyperfixationwise, Caroline in the City (S1-S3... S4? I don't know her - no seriously, I didnt realise for YEARS it didnt end at S3 and as this purported S4 fucked that up [supposedly] yeah I don't know her), The XFiles for my first actual foray into fandom & fanfic, and I know am missing another gazillion shows I'll remember later that seem much more worldshaping than these and I'll gnash my teeth lol so yeah *waves hand vaguely towards future me's frustrated rememberings* them too ;)

Wickedly Witchy Food Bribes

Warning: This post is full of F-words...like food, fizzy, and - well, that's why there is a cut.

Anathema might be a modern day witch, but she still follows some old traditions. Like trying to feed children when they came by her house out of the woods.

There are traditional stories, like Hansel and Gretel, where young children are left to wander in the woods alone and a witch finds them and lures them in to her house with sweet food to eat. They are captured and fed to be "fattened up" before being cooked and eaten. Eating the children was supposed to give the witches eternal youth, and the children were wandering in the woods in the first place because the poor often had too many mouths to feed and it was one way to reduce the number of souls under their roof. Cruel, but reality.

In S1 there are three main scenes where the youthful Anathema offers the members of the Them food when they come to Jasmine Cottage.

Making Lemonade from Lemons

In Ep.3 Adam comes upon Anathema smashing plant pots in the garden of Jasmine Cottage as she takes out her frustration about losing The Book. She invites him side and offers him lemonade, while they discuss all the things are supposedly wrong with the world, and then she gives him the New Aquarian magazines to take away and read.

He devours them, and their ideas, and that night, as he sleeps, fizzy sherbet lemon sweets by his side, he transforms a nuclear reactor into...something else.

Chocolate

At the beginning of Ep.4, the whole gang of the Them arrive at the cottage when Adam returns the magazines. Anathema greets them at the door and offers then "candy," a distinctly American term for an American witch, and the candy she offers is - chocolate. This also originates from the Americas, so this is an all-American food bribe in this instance.

Sandwiches

A short while later, still in Ep. 4, after the Them have helped a battered Newt get to Jasmine Cottage so Anathema can assist following the car crash, the witch offers the children sandwiches. You hear this offer off-screen, so to speak, as the camera is focusing in on Adam as he gazes at the picture of the devil on the kitchen wall.

Sandwiches, people. SANDWICHES.

SHE OFFERED THEM LUNCH!

mn'kay I'll calm down for those that aren't making the meta-connection here...

The TL:DR version is sandwich -> lunch -> er, love? (see the end for further reading)

The key here is what Wensley says to Anathema on turning down the offer:

I have a very nutritious lunch waiting for me at home. My mother asked me to come home with an appetite."

Awww.

Not only is Wensley the one who defeats Famine in the end, this line also tells us he has a family who loves and cares for him very much, and they have plenty of food to feed him with. No one is trying to dispose of their unwanted offspring in this rural village.

So there you go . Food doesn't have to all be about f- *ahem* It can be for more familiar things as well.

BAD BUDDY FILMING LOCATIONS 10

This post steps away from the original BBS to look at filming locations for the Bad Buddy episodes of Our Skyy 2 (overlapping with ATOTS as well), that aired in May/June 2023.

I think the fandom was so overjoyed at getting PatPran and the rest of the gang back in Our Skyy 2 that we were willing to overlook any inconsistencies (Pat's Baseball Mom hair included 😂), and this applies to the locations too. 🥰

Anyway, OS2 x BBS x ATOTS didn't use Rangsit University to represent South Technology U, and instead filmed the gang's academia-set scenes in King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL).

KMITL is about 30km east of central Bangkok in Nonthaburi province, not far from Suvarnabhumi Airport:

Once the action moved up to Pha Pun Dao, I did remember enough about ATOTS to know that OS2 x BBS x ATOTS re-used the same buildings up in the mountains. Most of these – unlike settings in other BLs – had been purpose-built for the show, and it was cool to see them still standing, looking good three years or so after they were first erected.

With a bit of searching, I can confirm that the Pha Pun Dao village buildings (Tian's house, the Pha Pun Dao school, etc.) are located at The Union of Hill Tribe Villages and Long Neck Karen in Nang Lae, Chiang Rai province. Due to the popularity of ATOTS, the set buildings can be visited as a tourist attraction in their own right, and are marked on Google Maps as such:

This is a Bad Buddy blog so I'm not going into the Ep.4 PhuTian locations in detail; they're easy enough to find because they were mostly at Emquartier Mall and the Buddy Oriental Riverside Hotel.

LITG S2 Lucas and Henrik

S2 EP 05 Pt1 Two's Company

Music plays in the background as two hot new boys enter the Villa. They pass by the rather savage slogan ‘by Felicia’, meant for the dumped Islanders as they exit the Villa. ”This is banging, man.” The long-haired blond’s overwhelming excitement is through the roof, and he can’t control his giggles.

“This is unreal.” The tall, dark-haired one is smiling as he looks around. The foyer welcomes them with the infamous huge neon sign that reads ‘love’. His eyes brighten when he glances to the left and sees another neon slogan, ‘So extra,’ on one of the living room’s yellow padded panels in the display niches.

They proceed through the double glass patio doors and walk through the beautiful, floral-lined paved walkway. They step out into the brilliant sunshine. The dark-haired one shoots his companion an encouraging smile, and the blond one gives the other newbie a thumbs up.

“Oh, this is wicked, mate.” He cannot control his exuberant laughter and throws himself back on the daybed. The dark-haired one stops on the kitchen steps and glances over the beautiful garden area. “It’s absolutely mad.”

“The pool looks so inviting,” says the blond as he peers at the pool with longing.

“Doesn’t it?” The other boy nodded and agreed. “I can’t wait for them to wake up and see the look on their faces,” he said with a cheeky smile.

Love Island introduction Montage: Lucas

“I’m Lucas. I'm 27 years old, from Oxford, England. I work as a physiotherapist.” He gives a smouldering smile. “Once I gave a girl a foot rub on our first date.”

Pictures from his social media feed flash on the screen behind him.

Lucas says he had been single for a year before entering the villa. "I’m single by choice. I’m looking for the right girl. I feel like I have quite high expectations.”

"If I had to describe myself in three words, they would be confident, genuine, and ambitious."

He smiled brightly. “My ideal girl is someone who has a lot of confidence, a lot of self-esteem, and who knows what she wants.” He said he has his eyes on Hope, Priya and Grace.

“If I had to describe myself in bed, it would be… damn good.” Lucas grins unashamedly.

His social media pictures and posts continue to roll on the screen behind him. Lucas’s pics were of his motorbiking and travelling and work.

“My turn-off is someone who is not independent and relies on you to do things for them all of the time."

Why Love Island? "I haven’t had the best luck with previous relationships. So I thought, why not be in the sun and potentially meet the love of my life? Hopefully she’s in the Villa."

"I have no qualms about stepping on anyone's toes in the villa. I am a fairly competitive person and go after what I want." End Montage.

(Villa) They eventually arrive at their ultimate destination, the pool. They lay back on the pool loungers and relax, admiring the pool and countryside beyond. Lucas added, “Gonna be a bit of a shock, innit?”

“We need to stick together and crack on with as many birds,” exclaimed the blond. “Who do you think the fittest is?”

“Tough one, that is. They’re all, like, really fit.” Lucas added, "If he had to pick one, I'd say Grace (MC) is most likely the fittest."

Henrik nodded in agreement. “Hundred percent. Banging bod. Her years of dance shows. I’m obviously going to keep my options open. There’s potential with them all. You know what I mean?”

“I’m Henrik. I'm 23 and from The Isle of Wight. I’m a climbing and wilderness instructor.”

“One of the biggest turn-offs is someone who's really quiet, and you don't get anything back in a conversation."

Henrik says with a conspiratorial grin on his face, “Rocco is going to literally kick off if one of us cracks on with her.”

"Let him kick off. He has wandering eyes and would most likely flirt with your dog." The physiotherapist laughed and then said nonchalantly, “She’s not happy with him anyway.” Henrik nodded his head in agreement. After a moment of silence Lucas adds, “There’s something about Priya, man.”

“Yeah, just about…” Henrik's eyes gleamed, and he then moved his eyebrows in an enthusiastic gesture. “She’s older, you know.”

Lucas chuckled, “Like a little cougar action going?”

Henrik shook his head and said, “Actually, with Priya, she is waiting for someone to sweep her off her feet.”

Lucas asked if that was what Henrik was going to do. The climbing instructor responded with a gleeful grin on his face, “Hundred percent.”

Why Geofoam Is One Of The Best-Selling Lightweight Fill Materials

Geofoam is an incredibly durable and cost-effective material used in a variety of construction projects, from retaining walls, to rooftop garden boxes, to tiered stadium seating. It is commonly made from expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam, which makes it lightweight and ideal for projects where a reduction of material weight is essential.

How Is Geofoam Used?

Geofoam can be used in a number of construction applications. Since the density of geofoam is 50 to 100 times lower than soil, it is an ideal lightweight fill material in soil and road embankment projects. It can be used as backfill behind retaining structures, as it reduces lateral pressure, provides better waterproofing, and reduces ground settling, all without adding significant load.

A popular material in stadiums, theatres, and gymnasiums, geofoam is the fill material of choice for places where tiered seating is needed.

Geofoam is easy to use and can be installed without the special lifting equipment usually needed with steel, wood, concrete and other heavy materials. Its high compressive resistance and low weight make it effective for both new construction and renovation projects.

Why Use Geofoam?

Saving time and money is always important on any construction project. Using EPS geofoam blocks accomplishes this in several ways:

First, and perhaps the most significant, is reduced labour and equipment costs. Since geofoam is so light and easy to install, it can quickly be carried to the work site and set in place by a labourer. If alterations are needed for blocks to fit properly, there is no need to send them back to the factory or to arrange for special on-site equipment. EPS geofoam can easily be trimmed using a hot wire cutter or hand saw.

Geofoam can be installed in most weather conditions and there is no need for soil compaction and stabilisation before blocks can be set into place.

Safety of employees and the environment is a top priority on the construction site. Geofoam is lightweight and does not require heavy lifting to set it place, reducing on-the-job injuries.

The blocks are non-toxic and do not attract animals or insects. Since EPS geofoam does not provide nutrients, plant roots will not infiltrate the foam blocks and compromise structural integrity. In addition, there are no negative effects on soil and groundwater quality, and geofoam reduces runoff to site-adjacent water sources.

When it comes to customisation, geofoam is beyond comparison. When I started playing with a modern Ubermegahood using the new additional LTWs mod, I intended to give fairly regular updates on how it was going. Not detailed posts or anything, just some pictures illustrating a little summary. Alas, I did not. Now, I’ve got a little frustration with trying to figure out a couple of mods that aren’t working right--hey, at least it’s not heavy GUID crashing like the Megakingdom! ...but I want to make my little post anyway, for the sake of momentum.

Last time, I talked about the Goodies and the Newsons. Today, I’ll start with the Gavigan family

Last time I played a standard Ubermegahood, I moved the Gavigans into a small house in Belladonna Cove with a mansard roof, and then struggled with both finances and space the entire time. This time, I thought I’d be clever and move them into a modest apartment while they save up a bit for a good house with room to grow. (...the houses that come with more recent EPs are utter garbage at being good for a growing family. They’re often garbage at other key features like being nice to look at, being physically usable, and looking like a house a real human person would ever live in, but that’s beside the point.)

So of course, Nathan Gavigan rolled the LTW of Harvest 2000 Best Quality Garden Crops.

Sigh

It’s fine. I gave them a round in the apartment, and they might take another. Nathan’s only 23, he has a long time to grow crops.

Mary’s new LTW was Create 200 Robots, so she’s got a little workstation and eventually bought a small shop (in Bluewater Village because I didn’t want to build a fresh one) to sell her robots. Basically, I think I’m only going to let sims sell to the catalogue if they can’t start a home or community lot business, for whatever reason. I am considering the possibility of killing two birds with one stone and building a new house for them on a fresh lot with a little robot-and-veggies home business downstairs, but haven’t really decided yet. I don’t think their net worth is higher than they started with yet, so either way they will have to start small.

It took Mary a few tries to get pregnant like she wanted, and with hours to spare she gave birth to a daughter, Ruth, the firstborn sim of the ubermegahood from a player perspective, but likely to be one of the last born in this round from a sim perspective. Sim time is weird like that. She was born about 1:30 AM on Fall 5, 2001, and I am considering whether it would be fun to keep full track of the time of birth like that. She is going to register as a full day younger than sims born before 6 PM, but that’s just par for the course.

Not much else happened. Isaiah learned to study and made friends with a couple townies, Nathan took a low-level business job to support his family until they can move someplace with a yard.

Oh, and full traits:

Mary: Bookworm, Hydrophobic, Charismatic, Ambitious, Excitable; hobby is Tinkering

Next, the Cleveland family:

The Clevelands started out a little boring to me, but got more interesting as I went on. Both Jason and Marissa wound up with the same LTW to own 5 top-level businesses. First of all, that is a LTW I am NOT good at fulfilling; second I have to do it twice! And come up with enough damn businesses for these chuckleheads to make! So, I left Jason in his Law Enforcement job to support them as they get started, and Marissa bought a little shop in Bluewater Village. I couldn’t decide what to do with it and ended up settling on Home Decor. Other ideas for future businesses include a salon, a coffee shop, a music venue, and a park. I think I am going to insist on a preference for local business, though. Next business either of them buys has to be in BDC, even if I have to build it myself. It’ll be a little while, though. Marissa wanted to have a baby, and ended up having twin girls, Mary Anne and Monet. Monet has freckles! Their apartment isn’t terribly small, but they do need to move to a bigger place before the girls age up to children. That gives them a couple rounds to earn the cash.

I... didn’t do a great job taking pictures while I played them.

Finally for this post, there’s Carlos Contender.

Okay, here we go. Sometimes I find Carlos a bit boring to play, but in this game he rolled a LTW to earn $10,000 being a personal trainer, which sounds amazing and perfect for him. I’m trying to figure out whether it is possible for him to offer private lessons in his home without opening a home business—probably not, but it would be cool. He also made out with Jessica Peterson while at the gym, and I might make that happen.

I’ve been sending him to the gym to act as personal trainer usually twice a day–morning and evening. Realistically, I should use some sort of “sim returns home at the time they left the community lot” mod I’m pretty sure exists, but so far he’s in luck, pulling double or triple shifts without loss of job or sleep. It’s kind of necessary–he’s using the premade gym in Belladonna Cove, and sims there gravitate towards the pool and the vending machines long before they touch the exercise machines. He usually needs to hang around for hours before he gets an opportunity to train anybody. Still, he managed to make around $1100 at it this round, training such sims as Mary Gavigan, Patrizio Monty, and Gabe O’Mackey. There was also some highly amusing background drama from loitering sims. A heavily pregnant Pascal stops by the gym virtually every day, and never does any exercise of any kind. He’s been seen laughing at the gym’s bowling trophy display and socializing. Similarly, Ana Patel sometimes shows up. If I was writing a full story of some kind, I’d make up a mini plot about the two of them attending some kind of prenatal yoga class. You get lots of random premade sims from any and all subhoods, but most amusingly one time Connor Weir tried to make out with Titania Summerdream and was rejected; a couple days later (nsert sim) tried it and succeeded! (I’ll only break up existing couples if the chemistry for a new partner is 3 bolts, or if the sims involved have lots of wants about it.)

Back to Carlos, although he was working hard at fulfilling his LTW, his lesser wants were unrelated and needed attention. I had him invite Jessica over one time, and his other interest Chastity Gere another time. Later in the round, he invited each of them over separately for a whirl in the jacuzzi. He’s more into Chastity, but since he’s a Romance sim I’m not sure how much it matters. (Plus, that’s what I did in my last Megahood…) I’m definitely going to be playing each of those ladies for a round, and we’ll see what they want. I know Jessica’s Fortune, so it seems to me like she might enjoy marrying Carlos for his money and then letting him have fun with Chastity, but we’ll see.

Carlos’ traits: Socially Awkward, Ambitious, Daredevil, Clumsy, Loser

I’ve also played through the Cordials, the Patels, and started on Jessica Peterson, all pretty interesting so far, but Kimberly Cordial gave me trouble with the Grumpy trait not working and getting her fired, and Jessica is the sim who could not propose engagement to Carlos despite wanting to, and despite Samantha Cordial having no trouble proposing to Armand DeBateau a short while ago. But this post feels quite long already, so... perhaps next time.
