day 17
happy valentine's day!
today's bird is the rosy-faced lovebird! (peach-faced lovebird)
- first off, a little valentine's fact: the date, february 14th, was selected by medieval birdwatchers who noticed it was around the time that birds would begin selecting their mates!
- rosy-faced lovebirds are the largest lovebird species
- rosy-faced lovebirds mate monogamously for life! if their partner dies they will enter an erratic and depressed state like that of humans

Los pájaros Roseicollis están comiendo juntos, comen verduras frescas. En este video los tortolitos se ven entusiasmados y felices. Yo, que los miraba, también lo disfrutaba.

^image credit: Charles J. Sharp, Wikipedia
Rosy-Faced Lovebird (Agapornis roseicollis)
Also known as the Rosy-Collared Lovebird or the Peach-Faced Lovebird, the Rosy-Faced Lovebird is a common pet bird native to dry, open country in southwest Africa. The females are known to tear materials into strips, tuck them into their back and tail feathers, and fly back to make a nest - a behaviour often replicated in captive birds.

Animal of the Day!
Rosy-faced Lovebird (Agapornis roseicollis)
(Photo from eBird)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Southwestern Africa
Size (Weight/Length)- 17 cm
Diet- Seeds; Fruits; Leaves
Cool Facts- These little guys are a personal favorite of mine! Rosy-faced lovebirds mate for life and are almost always seen in pairs. They are known for their adorable sleeping position where they sit next to each other on a branch and press their faces together. Both males and females have identical coloration, with a stunning red head and blue tail. You know there’s a lovebird around when you hear its shrieking call. These birds are very popular in the pet industry but oftentimes people don’t know the difficulties of owning a long living parrot. This has led to pets being released into cities around the United States and Central America.
Rating- 13/10 (Happy Valentine’s Day!)

Everyone look at mango. My beautiful "rescue" bird who i love. And by rescue i mean petsmart was giving him away for practically free because he hates other birds with a burning passion. Loves people tho.
note: the food in the bowl isnt his normal feed. he gets a healthy pellet diet with fruit and veggies added in. That was just a treat because i was very busy for a few days and wanted to make it up to him.
he likes to try and murder my phone. and sit on the computer while im using it. and dismantle my keyboard. and sitting on my head. Hes a beautiful wonderful animal. everyone appreciate him right fucking now <3

I added these three cute lovebirds (Fischer’s, black-masked / yellow-collared, rosy-faced / peach-faced) in my Redbubble store. Check them out if you'd like a product with a colorful little parrot friend to your home or office! ^^

Look at my polite children.
No, they did not spend the day chewing my hands to death. No I am not in immense pain. They are gentle. They would never commit ant crime nor felony. I swear.
