day 3/100 of productivity
Today I wore Givenchy’s L’Interdit Rouge, truly a magnificent scent for a gloomy Sunday…
Tasks accomplished today:
Astrophysics exercises
Revise lab report and read lab book
Italian translation
Waves material revision + ODEs
French podcast
Chinese study
{Notes of the day: I’ve been in one of the worst reading slumps as of late, I have an entire list of ancient history and philosophy of physics books to finish before exam season and yet I have barely touched them… I also saw some really helpful Latin grammar/vocabulary textbooks which I’ll have to postpone for next semester since I hope to finish my first integrated Chinese textbook before the ending of the one we are confronting as I write this…}

Severus learning native languages just so he can mess with the foreign students like you ain’t special and I’m still gonna give you detention 💀
Oh he'd be that petty, yes.
"Il semble que vous allez passer une merveilleuse soirée avec Mr. Filch aujourd'hui, Mr Roman."
Given his field of studies, I have the feeling that Severus would have to indeed learn other languages (some fluently and other on the very basics) in order to obtain more knowledge. I can completely imagine him reading le Livre Rouge des Plantes Menacées aux Antilles Françaises, or having a go at more complicated ones such as Advanced Medicinal Boils in Hindi or Russian Herbal: Traditional Remedies in its original languages...
Spanish, Portuguese and Italian would be easier to grasp having contact with French since they are latin languages.
One could not rely on translation spells all the time.

Sonic World project plan: Shadow the Hedgehog (Vol. 2)
Tumblr media
This series is not an assured project. It is a concept that can still be changed or scrapped.
Synopsis
After the event of "Shadow the Hedgehog" volume one, Shadow has decided to reunite with Team Dark. The rocky reunion is broken up by the impossible return of Mephiles the Dark. They must team-up to stop the new threat of Nominatus, master of technology.
Characters
Shadow the Hedgehog - The ultimate lifeform created by Gerald Robotnik in the Earth dimension. He was brought to Sonic's home dimension by Eggman sometime following his battle with the Biolizard on the Ark. Rouge was the first person he met following his reawakening. For a time, they had quite the bond and formed Team Dark with E-123 Omega. Sometime prior to the battle where Eggman disappeared, Shadow left to be on his own. During the events on this volume, he attempts to repair his status with Team Dark while chasing after the evil Mephiles.
Rouge the Bat - A master thief, treasure hunter, and leader of Team Dark with a flirty personality. She had a close relationship with Shadow and was hurt when he left the team. When he returns, she no longer trusts him enough to lower her guard again.
E-123 Omega - The most powerful robot built by Eggman. He loves to destroy enemies and cause destruction. There is a kinder side to him that only Shadow and Rouge have seen. No matter what, he will always protect his friends.
Mephiles - Dubbed "the Ultimate Lifeform Destroyer," he was created by Infinite the Jackal through the power of the reality-altering power of the Phantom Ruby to torment Shadow. Although the ruby was destroyed and the false reality was torn apart, Mephiles somehow impossibly survived. In a "glitchy" form, he releases Nominatus as part of a plan to destroy Shadow.
Nominatus - An ancient, alien being from the Nero dimension. He can manipulate electronics and radio signals. He was sent eons ago to conquer the world for Black Doom, but he was defeated and sealed within an object known as the "Nominatus Sphere." He morphs Badniks into his demonic minions. His drive is to finish his mission and return home as a champion.
Recap
Other Information
The plan for the Nero dimension is for it to take inspiration from the Shinigami realm from the anime "Death Note." The domain of Black Doom is based on the Black Comet.
I got the name "Nero" when I put "Black Doom" through an Italian translation. It's fitting because I've seen two evil characters who were called "Nero." It's a long story though about how I got to using Italian though.
Although there is no romance in the Sonic World universe, the "bond" between Shadow and Rouge is meant to suggest that they were dating once. Officially though, they were just really, really, really, really good friends 😉

"So the Japanese script is the most revised one"
Localization woes makes this common for some companies. I think a good example is Sonic 06
The Eng localization started when Scepter of Darkness was still Book of Darkness. With minor script updates in Japan this term became outdated, and due to time Eng only updated some lines (leading to Rouge still saying both Book of Darkness and Scepter in final Eng). Even worse, some more lines recorded were unused due to timeframe, which could've removed the error
Even funnier, 06 was also released later in Japan, despite system game language setting having both
And this all ignores that translators/localizers rarely have context for what they're adapting, which is another issue. Sonic Cult leaked a WIP localization xml, and there's literally no scene directions or pictures. Only dialogue, and time of said line
So, fun fact: Heroes' Italian translation is pretty bad, so bad that even I, at 8 years old and the most basic grasp on English, could tell that there were discrepancies between what the characters said and what the subs said.
Most of the mistakes were simple ineptitude (like confusing Shadow's name for the word "shadow" and translating it lmao), but a memorable instance is Shadow's quote at the beginning of Final Fortress:
ENG: "I feel a bit uneasy... Time to attack!"
ITA: "I have a bad feeling about this... I hope it's nothing."
Like. I could tell that the tone was completely different. To this day, I am 100% convinced that there was a discrepancy in the script the translators got, and the final English one.
Anyway, back to '06, I didn't realize that the Scepter/Book mistake was due to a script that wasn't updated. It must have been quite an early draft, since they had to model the actual Scepter in the meantime.
I feel bad for those translators. Translating from Japanese without context is nearly impossible lmao.

So I was looking up Italian words for things to try and come up with a ship name for rouge/Elise, since soleanna is Italy, and I discovered that the Italian word for bat is pipistrello, which is absolutely fantastic
OMGGG THAT'S SO ADORABLE???? also, i know they don't translate the character names but apparently rouge in italian would be "rosette", which is very cute as well :>

The Moulin Rouge had become one of Cicero's favorite places he'd been in a long time. Music, dancing, entertainment, and easy, so easy prey. More than one dancer would wake up with a blurry memory and a bruised and bitten neck. They never connected Cicero to the violence though- not the Italian with a playful lilt to his voice and a charming gaze.
Oh, and the gossip Cicero learned just by being a literal fly on the wall. Oh, The Duke was a clever fox, but he seemed to miss the obvious fact his beloved Diamond wasn't his alone. Cicero had spotted Satine and some soft eyed poet sneaking off together. That was delightful... and would just give him fuel in his manipulation of the Duke.
Tonight, rather than meet at the Moulin Rouge, Cicero had invited Andre to his home. Not a sprawling estate or anything, but a luxurious enough flat for him and his darling Gloria.
"Cicero? The Duke has arrived."
Speaking of which. Cicero beamed at his guest. "Your grace, you decided to come! I'm honored. Gloria, darling, I'll see you in the morning."
Translation: leave. While I enjoy inserting myself into this drama.

Green day ordinary world movie

GREEN DAY ORDINARY WORLD MOVIE FREE
Later on, in an interview featured on the DVD release of the show, Le Bon stated that he loved singing in Italian because of the very open vowel sounds in the language. The duet, along with the whole show, was released on home video as Pavarotti & Friends: Together for the Children of Bosnia.
GREEN DAY ORDINARY WORLD MOVIE FREE
The performance featured new lyrics in Italian, written especially for the show by producer Michele Centonze, most of which were a very free adaptation (rather than a translation) of Le Bon's original lyrics the title "Ordinary World" was rendered as "mondo umile", i.e. Le Bon later performed the song with Luciano Pavarotti at a WarChild benefit. Everyone who heard it could apply it to something in their life, but for a different reason." It really worked for me emotionally and mentally. And putting it into words freed me, absolutely. Le Bon noted the song lyrics are about "trying to get over the death of a best friend. His instrumental rock trio version became a staple of his solo shows and was included on one of his solo albums "Roadrage". The guitar solo that characterises this song was arranged and performed by Warren Cuccurullo, former player with Frank Zappa. The drums were played by Steve Ferrone at Maison Rouge. The keyboards in the song were arranged and performed by Nick Rhodes and John Jones. To their surprise, the single proved so popular that Capitol had to push the US release date up, ultimately releasing it in December. It was not until Capitol Records leaked "Ordinary World" to a radio station in Jacksonville, Florida during the second half of 1992 that it seemed like Duran Duran would find a resurgence in popularity. Their album Liberty had proved a commercial failure, its two singles failing to make a significant showing on the British or American charts. īy the early 1990s, Duran Duran's popularity had faded. "Ordinary World" remains one of Duran Duran's most popular songs and was in October 2021 their second-most streamed song in the UK. Lead vocalist Simon Le Bon sang the song with Luciano Pavarotti at a benefit concert for War Child. The song was nominated for Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically in May 1994. 1 on the US Billboard Mainstream Top 40, the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart and the Italian Singles Chart. " Ordinary World" is the first single from Duran Duran's self-titled 1993 album, commonly known as The Wedding Album. For the Green Day song, see Revolution Radio.įrom the album Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) For the Get Set Go album, see Ordinary World (album). Hi! I'l french, I don't really have many things tl add because you said quite a lot and also a lot of things were ruined by school (like madame bovary, I have no idea if it's good or not, I just know I hated it and couldn't understand why it was that iconic, I guess there is a reason lol), but I got excited seeing you talking about it so I will just comment for a bit haha
I love maupassant! It was something about his writing that even when I didn't care about the story I still had a good moment reading it (I don't know how it translates into english or other languages though, which is true for any writing)
Zola I only read (besides J'accuse; side note but if someonewant understand a bit more some stuff about france history they should for sure look into l'affaire dreyfus and the following events :) ) Germinal, which was so long and I didn't finish it but it's one of those book I would like to read again now.
Also yes for jules verne ! And I really need to read the compte of montecristo
I'm really curious about how poems are translated and understood. When we're kids we often study 'Il pleure dans mon cœur' (Paul Verlaine) which literally means it's raining in my heart, but you loose the rhyme. Fun fact I remember when the teacher told us that verlaine and rimbaud had a relationship (paul verlaine was much older...) that ended badly and we started to read all their poems as if they were about that that the teacher had to put a stop because not everything is about that 😂
For the 20th century, there is a bunch of things that maybe aren't for everyone (quite peculiar?) but are worth to know, like ionesco in theater. There is also boris vian (20th century), I don't know if he's translated but there is L'arrache-coeur, L'herbe rouge or L'écume des jours (the last 2 are maybe more accessible?).
There is a lot more but I really don't know enough about literature 😭
Also for anyone interested... There is a very controversial author. Rightfully: he was a collabo during ww2 and he has books about escaping after the end lf the war etc it's... yeah. Don't read these books. But there is one that he wrote before that is really well known. It's really weird to read because of who he was but also because it's hard to understand how he became that after writing this. And he was a really good writer (more than a good person :/). It's like semi autobiographic (not really) and talks about the soldier experience in the ww1 and then the society in the post war in the 20, the colionalism, the industrial society... Really interesting but it's a lot.
hello anon! first of all thanks for the contribution ;) and going in order
haha dw I GET YOU ON THINGS BEING RUINED BY SCHOOL I have that problem with a few as well T_T maupassant translates decently enough in italian tho idk for english but I can confirm that dkslg and yes I should have specified to read j'accuse which is pretty damned great so thanks for mentioning it!
how poems are translated and understood.
eh like... the thing is that I know enough french to like, if I read the translation and then read the original I can get the meaning/I can get by with it so I'm not too bothered if they don't keep the rhymes/translate trying to keep the meaning but there's a reason why I'm in 100% awe of people who can translate poetry I could never /o\ from what I recall with verlaine/rimbaud/baudelaire most people do that while trying to maintain a musical rhythm and all the ones I saw where they tried to save the rhyming were... not 100% of the time good but yeah I feel that
For the 20th century, there is a bunch of things that maybe aren't for everyone (quite peculiar?) but are worth to know, like ionesco in theater. There is also boris vian (20th century), I don't know if he's translated but there is L'arrache-coeur, L'herbe rouge or L'écume des jours (the last 2 are maybe more accessible?).
AAAH thanks for mentioning ionesco I KNEW I was forgetting someone but I do quite like his theater! and fdklgjdlkjsdlkj FUCK I forgot boris vian wrote books too - I mean in italian there are some translated but let's say one of the parents is very much into vian so they have all of his stuff in french (I'm partial to the songs admittedly, I haven't tried the novels yet but le deserteur in my heart xD), I have absolutely no idea if he's translated into english though but thanks for mentioning him!
uuuuh is perchance the last you mentioned celine's journey to the end of the night? because hahahahah I never read it exactly because of what you said but at some point I think I should give at least that one a go out of like IT'S IMPORTANT I SHOULD READ IT but yeah the man's background doesn't really push you to try his stuff out :/

2022/06/18 Como hacía mucho calor, viajamos en tranvia a Alemania. Es la primera vez que cruzamos una frontera tan fácilmente y sin pedirnos el pasaporte. Vimos muchas cosas curiosas, como esculturas, un oso rojo y nombres españoles de café.
As it was very hot, we traveled by tram to Germany. It is the first time that we cross a border so easily and without asking for our passport. We saw many curious things, such as sculptures, a red bear and Spanish names for coffee.
Google Translation into Portuguese: Como estava muito calor, viajamos de bonde para a Alemanha. É a primeira vez que atravessamos uma fronteira com tanta facilidade e sem pedir o passaporte. Vimos muitas coisas curiosas, como esculturas, um urso vermelho e nomes espanhóis para café.

Nous avons vu beaucoup de choses curieuses, comme des sculptures, un ours rouge et des noms espagnols pour le café.
Google Translation into Arabic:

Google Translation into Suomi: Koska oli erittäin kuuma, menimme raitiovaunulla Saksaan. Tämä on ensimmäinen kerta, kun ylitimme rajan niin helposti ja ilman passia. Näimme paljon mielenkiintoisia asioita, kuten veistoksia, punaista karhua ja espanjalaisia nimiä kahville.
Google Translation into Polish: Ponieważ było bardzo gorąco, pojechaliśmy tramwajem do Niemiec. To pierwszy raz, kiedy tak łatwo i bez pytania o paszport przekroczyliśmy granicę. Zobaczyliśmy wiele ciekawych rzeczy, takich jak rzeźby, czerwonego niedźwiedzia i hiszpańskie nazwy na kawę.

Google Translation into Hindi: चूंकि यह बहुत गर्म था, इसलिए हम ट्राम को जर्मनी ले गए। यह पहली बार है जब हमने इतनी आसानी से और अपना पासपोर्ट मांगे बिना सीमा पार की है। हमने बहुत सी जिज्ञासु चीजें देखीं जैसे मूर्तियां, एक लाल भालू और कॉफी के लिए स्पेनिश नाम।

Google Translation into Thai: เนื่องจากอากาศร้อน เราจึงนั่งรถรางไปประเทศเยอรมนี นี่เป็นครั้งแรกที่เราข้ามพรมแดนได้อย่างง่ายดายและไม่ต้องขอหนังสือเดินทาง เราเห็นสิ่งที่น่าสงสัยมากมาย เช่น ประติมากรรม หมีแดง และชื่อภาษาสเปนสำหรับกาแฟ
Google Translation into Bengali: যেহেতু খুব গরম ছিল, তাই আমরা ট্রাম নিয়ে গেলাম জার্মানিতে। এই প্রথম আমরা এত সহজে এবং আমাদের পাসপোর্ট না চাইতেই একটি সীমান্ত অতিক্রম করলাম। আমরা অনেক কৌতূহলী জিনিস দেখেছি যেমন ভাস্কর্য, একটি লাল ভালুক এবং কফির জন্য স্প্যানিশ নাম।
