Disability Tropes: The Miracle Cure
The miracle cure is a trope with a pretty negative reputation in disability circles, especially online. It describes a scenario in which, a disabled character, through either magic, advanced technology, divine intervention or some combination of the three, has their disability cured throughout the course of the story. Sometimes this is literally, as in the disability is completely and entirely cured with no strings attached. Other times, it looks like giving an amputee character a prosthetic so advanced that it's basically the same as "the real thing" and that they never take off or have any issue with, or giving the character with a spinal injury an implant that bypasses the physical spine's break, or connects to an exoskeleton that allows them to walk again. Sometimes, it can even look like giving a character some kind of magic item or power that negates the effects of the disability, like what I talked about in my post about "the super-crip" trope. Either way though, the effect is the same: The disability is functionally cured and is no longer an "issue" the author or character has to worry about.
But why would this be a bad thing? In a world with magic or super-advanced tech, if you can cure a character's disability, why wouldn't you?

Well there's a few reasons. First, lets talk about the purely writing related ones. If you've been around the writing or even media critique communities for a bit, you've likely heard people voicing their frustrations with tropes like "The fake-out death" where a character is either implied to have died, but comes back later, or is explicitly shown to be dead and then resurrected. Often when this happens in media, it leaves the audience feeling cheated and like a character's actions and choices don't really matter if even the worst mistakes and consequences can be undone. In the case of the latter situation, where they die and are brought back, it can make the stakes of the whole story feel a lot lower, since even something like death is shown to be reversible, so the audience doesn't really have to worry about anything bad happening to their favourite character, and once you've used this trope one time, people will constantly wonder why you wouldn't use it every time it comes up.
The same is true for "fixing" a character's disability. It sets a precedent that even things as big and life-changing as disability aren't permanent in this setting. We don't have to worry about anything major happening to the characters, there's no risks associated with their actions if it can all be undone, and it will lower the stakes of the story for your audience. Personally, I also feel like it's often used as a cop-out. Like writers wanted to include a major injury the leads to something big like disability for shock value, but weren't sure how to actually deal with it afterwards, so they just made it go away. Even in cases where the character start the story with a disability and are cured, this can still cause issues with your story's stakes, because again, once we've seen you do it once, we know its possible, so we won't feel the need to worry about anything being permanent.
Ok, so that's the purely writing related reasons, but what if that situation doesn't apply to the story you're writing? What if they're "fixed" right at the end, or the way they're cured is really rare, so it can't be used multiple times?
I'm glad you asked, because no, this is far from the only reason to avoid the trope! In my opinion, the more important reason to avoid it is because of how the a lot of the disabled community feels about the miracle cure trope, and the ideas about disability it can perpetuate if you're not very, very careful.
You might have noticed that throughout this post, I've put words like "cured" and "fixed" in quotes, and that's because not every disabled person wants a cure or feels like their ideal to strive for is able-bodied and neurotypical. For many of us, we have come to see our disabilities as part of us, as part of our identities and our sense of self, the same way I, as a queer person might see my queerness as a part of my identity. This is an especially common view among people who were born with their disability or who had them from a young age, since this is all they've ever really known, or who's disability impacts the way they think, perceive and process the world around them, how they communicate with people or in communities who have a long history of forced conformity and erasure such as the autism and deaf communities. Many disabilities have such massive impacts on our lives that we literally wouldn't be who we are today if they were taken away. So often though, when non-disabled people write disabled characters, they assume we'd all take a "cure" in a heart-beat. They assumed we all desire to be just like them again, and this simply isn't the case. Some people absolutely would, and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not as universal as media representation makes it out to be.
Another reason it's so heavily disliked is because this trope is often used in conjunction with other ableist and harmful tropes or it's used in ways that perpetuate misinformation about living with a disability and it can have ableist implications, even if that's not what the author necessarily intended.
If the miracle cure is used right at the end of the story for example, as a way to give characters a happy ending it can imply that the only way for a disabled character to be happy in the long run, is for them to be "fixed", especially if they were miserable all the way up until that point. If it's used earlier in the story as a way to get said character back into the action, it can also be read as the author thinking that disabled people can't be of use to the plot, and so the only way to keep them around is to "fix" them.
Of course, there's also the fact that some authors and writers will also play up how bad being disabled is in order to show why a cure is justified, playing into the "sad disabled person" trope in the process, which is pretty much what it says on the tin. Don't get me wrong, this isn't to say that being disabled is all easy-breezy, there are never any hard days and you should never show your character struggling, not at all, the "sad disabled person" trope has it's place (even if I personally am not a fan on it), but when both the "sad disabled person" trope and the miracle cure trope are used together, it's not a great look.
This is especially bad when the very thing that cures the disability, or perhaps the quest the heroes need to go on to get it, is shown to be harmful to others or the disabled person themselves. Portraying living with a disability as something so bad that it justifies hurting others, putting others at risk, loosing yourself or killing yourself in order to achieve this cure perpetuates the already harmful idea that disability is a fate worse than death, and anything is justified to avoid it.
I've also noticed the reasons the authors and writers give for wanting to cure their characters are very frequently based on stereotypes, a lack of research in to the actual limits of a person's disability and a lack of understanding. One story I recall reading years ago made sure to tell you how miserable it's main character, a former cyclist, was because he'd been in a car accident where he'd lost his arm, and now couldn't ride bikes anymore, seemingly unaware of the fact arm amputees can, in fact, ride bikes. There are several whole sports centred around it, and even entire companies dedicated to making prosthetic hands specifically for riding bikes. but no, the only way for this to resolve and for him to be happy was to give him his arm back as a magical Christmas miracle! It would be one thing if the story had acknowledged that he'd tried cycling again but just had difficulties with it, or something was stopping him from being able to do it like not being able to wear the required prosthetic or something, but it really did seem as though the author was entirely unaware it was even possible, which is an issue when it's the whole point of your story existing. This happens a lot more often than you'd think, and it's very clear when an author hasn't even bothered to google search if their character would be able to do something before deciding the only solution is to take the disability away.
There's also the frustration that comes from being part of an underrepresented minority, finally seeing a character like you on screen or in a book, only for that representation to be taken away. Disabled people make up roughly 16% of the population (though many estimate these numbers are actually much higher), but only about 2.8% of American TV shows and 4.1% of Australian TV shows feature explicitly disabled characters. In 2019, around 2.3% of films featured disabled characters in a speaking roll, and while it's slowly getting better as time goes on, progress on that front is very slow, which is why its so frustrating when we do see characters like ourselves and so much of their stories focus on wishing to be, trying to become or actually being "cured".
An finally, there's the fact this is just a really common trope. Even if we ignore the issues it can cause with your story's tone and stakes, the harm it can do to the community when not handled with care, the negative perceptions it can perpetuate and everything else. It's just a plain-old overdone trope. It shows up so often that I, and a lot of disabled people, are just getting tired of seeing it. Despite everything I've said, there are valid reasons for people to not want to be disabled, and just like how I made sure to emphasise that not everyone wants a cure, it's important to recognise that not everyone would refuse it either. So long as it's not done in a way that implies it's universal, in theory, depicting someone who would want and accept a cure is totally fine. The issue is though that this trope is so common and so overdone that it's starting to feel like it's all we ever see, especially in genres like sci-fi and fantasy (and also Christmas movies for some reason).
Tumblr media
[ID: A Gif of a white man in a top hat nodding his head with the caption "Merry Christmas" down the bottom. /end ID]
Personally, because it's so common, I find even the few examples of the trope used well frustrating, and I honestly feel that it's at the point where it should be avoided entirely where possible.
Ok but Cy, you mentioned there are ways to use this trope well, what are they?
So, like I said, I'm of the opinion that this trope is better off not being in your work at all, but if, for whatever reason, you can't avoid it, or it's use is really that important to the story you want to tell, there are less harmful ways to implement it.
Don't have your only disabled character take the cure
If you really must cure your disabled character's disability, don't make them the only disabled person in the story. Show us another character who, when offered the same cure, chooses not to take it. This at least helps push back a little against the assumption of "of course everyone would want this" that these kinds of stories often imply and doesn't contribute (as much) to disability erasure in the media.
Don't make it a total cure
In real life, there are cures for some disabilities, but they rarely leave no trace. For example, an amputee's limb can sometimes be reattached if it was severed and they received medical treatment fast enough, but it usually results in at least a little nerve damage and difficulties with muscle strength, blood flow or co-ordination in that limb. Often times, these "cures" will fix one issue, but create another. You might not be an amputee anymore, but you're still disabled, just in a different way. You can reflect this in your fictional cures to avoid it feeling like you just wanted to avoid doing the work to write good disabled representation.
Do something interesting with it
I got a comment on my old tumblr or possibly Tik Tok account ages ago talking about their planned use for the miracle cure trope, where their character accepts the cure at the cost of the things that made her life enjoyable post-disability. Prior to accepting the cure, she had found other ways to be independent to some extent and her community and friends helped her bridge the gaps, but they were all taken from her when she was "cured" forcing her into isolation. Kind of like a "be careful what you wish for" sort of thing. The story was meant to be a critique on how society ignores alternative ways of getting the same result and how conforming to other people's ideas of "normal" isn't always what you need to bring you happiness. This was a genuinely interesting way to use the trope I think, and it's a perfect example of taking this trope and twisting it to make an interesting point. If you must use a trope like this, at least use it to say something other than "disability makes me sad so I don't want to think about it too much". Alternatively, on a less serious note, I'm also not entirely opposed to the miracle cure being used for comedy if it fits the tone. The Orville has some issues with it's use of the Miracle Cure trope, but I'd be lying if I said Isaac amputating Gordan's leg as a prank, knowing it could be reversed in a few hours did get a chuckle out of me.
If your villain's motivation is finding a cure for themselves, don't use it as justification for hurting people
Disabled villains need a post all their own honestly, but when a villain's motivation for doing all the terrible things they do is so they don't have to be disabled anymore, it's especially frustrating. Doubly so if the writer's are implying that they're justified in their actions, or at least that their actions are understandable because "who would want to live like that?" Honestly, as a general rule of thumb, avoid making your villains disabled if you aren't disabled yourself (especially if they're your only disabled character), but if they are disabled, don't use the disability as a justification for them hurting people while finding a cure.
So are there any examples currently out there to look at where the trope is used, if not well, at least tolerably?
Yeah, I'd say so, but they're few and far between. Two examples come to mind for me though.
The Dragon Prince:
Tumblr media
[ID: A Gif of Ava the Wolf from the Dragon Prince, a light brown, fluffy wolf who is missing her front right leg. /End ID]
The Dragon Prince on Netflix uses the miracle cure twice, but I still really enjoyed the show (at least I did, up until my Netflix subscription ran out, so I've only seen up to season 4). The first time the trope is used in the series, it's actually a fake-out. Two of the main characters, while looking for someone to help them heal the dragon egg they're carrying, encounter a young girl named Ellis and her pet wolf Ava. The two explain their egg is not looking good and they need to find someone to help it, but no one they've found had the knowledge or ability to do anything to help. Ellis says she knows a healer who can help them, and tells them that this healer even restored Ava's amputated leg when she was a pup. When we actually reach this "miracle healer" however, she is revealed to be simply an illusionist. She explains that Ava is still missing her leg, she simply made it look as though she had restored it because Ellis's parents were planning to throw the puppy out, believing it would not survive with its disability and would only be a drain on supplies. This was not actually true and Ava adapted to her amputation very well, she simply needed more time, and hiding her disability and making her appear abled gave her the time she needed to fully recover and adjust. When they return to the healer with the main characters, she removes the illusion and explains why she did it, emphasising that the real problem was never with Ava, but with how people made assumptions about her.
While I do feel it was drawn out a bit too long, I do appreciate the use of the trope as the set up to an overall positive twist. Disability does come with down-sides, it's part of the deal and it would have been nice to see a bit more of that, but for disabilities like amputation in particular, the worst of our problems often come from a lack of adequate support and people's pre-conceived ideas about us, and it was nice to see this reflected, even if it is a little overly simplified.
The second time this trope comes up in the series is when one of the antagonists, Soren, is injured during a fight with a dragon, becoming paralysed from the neck down. His sister, Claudia is absolutely beside herself, believing it was her fault this even happened in the first place, but Soren actually takes his new disability very, very well, explaining that he understands there are things he can't do now, but that there's a lot of things he can still try, that his previous job as a soldier just didn't allow time for. It's possible this reaction was him being in denial but it came across to me as genuine acceptance. He is adamant that he doesn't want a cure right from the beginning because he knows that a cure would come at a cost that he doesn't want his sister to pay, and that he is content and happy with this new direction his life will be going in. Claudia, however, is not content. It had been shown that she was already using dark magic, but this event is what starts her down the path of using it in earnest, disregarding the harm it will cause to those around her. She ignores Soren's wishes, kills several animals in order to fuel the healing spell that will "fix" him, and Soren is pretty clearly shown to be horrified by her actions. What I like about this use of the miracle cure trope is that it touches on something I've seen happen a lot to disabled people in real-life, but that rarely shows up in media - the fact that just because we accept ourselves, our disabilities and our new limits, doesn't mean our friends and family will, unfortunately. In my own life, my mum and dad were always accepting of my disability when I was younger, but as I got older and my support needs changed, my body took longer to heal and I stopped being able to do a lot of things I could when I was little, they had a very hard time coming to terms with it and accepting it. I'm not alone in this either, a lot of disabled people end up cutting contact with friends and family members who refuse to accept the reality of our situations and insist "if we just try harder maybe we won't be so disabled" or "Maybe you will get better if you just do [xyz]". Unfortunately however, some disable people's wishes are ignored completely, like Soren's were. You see this a lot in autistic children who's parents are so desperate to find a cure that they hurt their kids through toxic and dangerous "treatments" or by putting them through abusive therapies that do more harm than good. Claudia has good intentions, but her complete disregard for Soren's decision still harm them both in the long run, leading to the deterioration of their relationship and causing her to spiral down a very dark path.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Tumblr media
[ID: A Gif of Ed from full metal alchemist, a white boy with blond hair, staring angrily at a jar of milk on the table. His brother Al, a sentiant suit of armour, is in the background looking directly at the camera. The caption, spoken by Ed, says "So we meet again you little bastard" /end ID.]
The show does begin with Ed and Al looking for a way to cure their disabilities (which they gave themselves when trying to resurrect their mother as children went horribly wrong). However, when the boys discover that the object needed to do that - a philosopher's stone, can only by made through absolutely abhorrent and despicable means, and using one, likewise, comes at the cost of potentially hundreds or thousands of people's souls, they immediately stop, and shift their focus on finding the stones that had already been made so it can't fall into the wrong hands, and preventing the creation of new ones. The core theme of the show is that everything has a cost, and sometimes the cost is simply too great.
However, right at the end of the show, several characters are healed in a variety of ways. Ed gives up his ability to do alchemy to get his brother's body back, as well as his arm so he can save his friends in the final battle, but neither of the boys come away from this completely "healed". Al's body has not been used since he was a child, and so it is shown he has experienced severe muscular atrophy that will take a long time and a lot of work to recover from, acknowledging that he has a pretty tough road ahead of him. When we see him in the epilogue, he is still on crutches despite this being several months after getting his body back. Likewise Ed is not fully healed, and is still missing one of his legs even if he got his arm back.
The more... interesting use of the trope, however, is in the form of Colonel Mustang who was blinded in the final season. Mustang is shown to take to his blindness pretty well given the circumstances, finding a variety of ways to continue doing his job and reaching his goals. When other characters offer to let him use the philosopher's stone to heal himself however, he takes it, acknowledging that this is a horrible thing to do and that Ed and Al would be extremely disappointed in him if they ever found out. He uses it both to cure his own disability, and to cure another character who was injured earlier in the show. While I'll admit, I did not like this ending, I can at least appreciate that the show made sure to emphasis that a) Mustang was doing fine without the cure, and b) that this was not morally justified. The show spent a very long time drilling into the viewer how morally reprehensible using the stone was, and it didn't try to make an exception for Mustang - you weren't supposed to like that he did that.
When I talk about these tropes, I do try to give them a fair chance and discuss the ways it can potentially work, but I really do want to reiterate that this particular trope really is best avoided. There are ways to make it work, but they will still leave a bad taste in many of your viewer's or reader's mouths and you have to be exceptionally careful with your wording and framing, not just in the scenes where this trope is used, but in the lead up. If you really must use it, I highly recommend getting a few disability sensitivity readers and/or consultants (yes, even if you are disabled yourself) to help you avoid some of the often overlooked pitfalls.

Please may I have a Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood scenario of when you (Maes Hughes sister *same age as Roy and she is Roy's wife and everything and she is currently pregnant with his son and she is a skilled sniper and yeah..she is the wife of a flame alchemist*) were insistent on Roy taking a break when the poor man was on the verge of collapse. You received a call from your worried brother when you were at the hospital having your pregnancy bump checked and you saw for yourself when Edward told you that Roy wasn't feeling all sunshine and rainbows..it was obvious that your poor husband had taken ill and you were absolutely stern when you told him to go home and sleep in a tone that meant "do it or else"..Roy was insistent when he said he was fine but he was not fine and it was clear to everyone else too..when they all told him to listen to his wife (you)..the Elric brothers had to help him home considering that you wouldn't be able to help him not in your condition. You called Roy a numpty for going to work despite he was ill today once he was in bed..
Hi! Thank you for your request! Sorry it took so long. I hope you like the scenario!

“Uh huh. Yeah. No, I know what he’s like. Yep. I’ll be there soon, don’t let him out of your sight. Bye.”
With every word you spoke into the phone the nurse standing near you grew paler and backed away. You could only guess at the expression on your face.
That damned husband of yours.
“I’m sorry. I’ve got to go. Is that all we need to do for today or do I need to book another appointment?”
The nurse recovered from her stunned state and shook her head. “Everything’s okay. Both you and the baby are doing well. We’ll see you again next month for your next check up.”
You gathered your belongings and stood up from your chair. “Thank you. I’ll see you then.”
As you left the building all you could think about was the conversation you had just had over the phone.
It had been your brother, Maes. And of course, knowing your brother, you expected him to be calling just to rant about his lovely Elicia.
So when you had answered the phone, it had come as a surprise.
~
“Hey sis! How’d the appointment go? All good?”
You smiled tiredly. Your brother was always so energetic. “Yes, Maes, all good. But I’m still in the appointment so unless it’s urgent, I’ll have to go.”
“Well actually…” he paused, “it is a bit urgent.”
You frowned. That was a more serious tone than you’d heard your brother use in quite a while. Maybe this wasn’t your average “my beautiful Elicia counted to ten today, she’s so smart” call.
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s Roy. He’s overworking himself again.”
You sighed. “That’s my husband. I’m guessing he’s not listening to anyone there?”
“You know him. Figured it was best if you came here to drag him home yourself.”
Another sigh on your part. “I’ll be there in a bit. Keep an eye on him and don’t let him out of your sight.”
“Right on. See you soon sis.”
~
As you strode through the halls of the base, you felt a presence fall into step beside you.
“Hello ma’am. Are you Mustang’s wife?”
You turned to look at the figure next to you. It was Edward Elric. Looking behind you, you saw his younger brother Alphonse. It was surprising how quietly he was able to move despite the large metal suit of armour.
You mostly knew the boy through Roy since, whether your husband wanted to admit it or not, he had basically adopted the Elric brothers following the incident that had taken place at their home a few years ago. Roy had been sparse on details but you’d heard rumours of human transmutation. You didn’t pry any further after that.
You’d see the Elrics around the base a few times and had certainly heard Ed and Roy yelling at each other on occasion. But beyond a few quick greetings in the halls, you hadn’t really had a lot to do with them.
“Yes, that’s me. And you’re the Fullmetal Alchemist aren’t you? To what do I owe the pleasure? Everything alright?”
The boy seemed to be fighting with himself, unsure of what to say. “It’s Mustang. He’s overworking himself and normally, I wouldn’t give a-” he paused and cleared his throat, “I mean, normally I wouldn’t be worried but he’s going to make himself sick if he doesn’t have a break.”
You sighed. “That’s my husband. My brother - you know him, Maes Hughes - called me earlier. I’m here to take him home to rest.” You frowned, “Is he that bad?”
“He’s certainly not feeling sunshine and rainbows at the moment. I think if he keeps working much longer he’s going to get sick.”
Of course he would work himself to the point of collapse when you weren’t around.
“Thank you for letting me know. I’ll be sure to give him a piece of my mind.”
For the first time, Edward grinned. “This, I’ve got to see.”
You had both reached the door to your husband’s office. You didn’t bother with the courtesy of knocking. Instead, you swung the door open, shifting your face into a firm look of fury and subtle disappointment.
“Roy.”
The man looked up from his desk, scrambling to make himself look presentable. But nothing count hide the dark circles under his eyes and the invisible weight on his shoulders.
“Hey sis! How are you and the little one doing?”
You turned to your brother, your face morphing into a smile. “Doing well.”
You looked around at the others in the room. Havoc, Hawkeye, Fuery, Falman, Breda. All people you knew well. All people who were completely loyal to your husband. All people he was ignoring at present.
“The baby’s as strong as ever. But I hear it’s father…” you turned your gaze back to Roy, “isn’t the same.”
Roy shook his head despite the resounding responses to the positive from around the room. “I’m fine dear. Really. No need to worry.”
“Oh don’t give me that. I can see it from a mile away. You, mister, need to go home and rest. Maes told me you’re overworking yourself. Even Edward told me he’s concerned about your wellbeing.”
Spluttering from behind you. “Now hang on, I never said-”
“Brother, don’t deny it. You were worried.”
You walked over to Roy’s desk. “We’re going home.”
“I’m fine hones-”
“Sir. With all due respect. Listen to your wife. Go home and rest. We can handle things here.” You gazed gratefully at Hawkeye who smiled back.
Roy opened his mouth as if to protest again but you interrupted before he had the chance. “Roy. Don’t be a numpty. Let’s go.”
He closed his mouth and exhaled through his nose. “Alright. You win. Let’s go.”
He raised himself from his chair and swayed dramatically. Edward and Alphonse rushed over. “Come on Colonel. We’ll help.” From the teasing glint in Edward’s eyes, you guessed his offer of help was in part due to genuine concern but mostly due to the fact that he could use the situation to tease your husband in the future.
As the Elrics helped Roy out the door, you waved a farewell to the others. “Thank you for looking after him until I got here. He’ll be back once he’s feeling better.”
Assorted farewells followed you out the door.
“When we get home, you’re going to bed and resting, alright?” Your tone brooked no argument and, despite everything, Roy smiled teasingly.
“Yes ma’am. You got it.”
His smile grew softer and a warm look filled his gaze.
“You’re going to be a great parent.”

SPOILED FUCKING ROTTEN !!!!!!!! YOUR DAUGHTERS ARE MONSTERS
I mean that in the nicest way possible, you know mustang would not be able to say no to any special girl in his life <3
Happy wife (and daughters), happy life kind of guy
But I'm thinking at least three since he high key needs the chaos of a big, happy, adorable family to keep away his demons LMAO
Seriously, nothing makes him happier than walking with you as you both take the girls to school or coming home to see them try to help with dinner and his work because they noticed he was “sad about work”
It always leads to a bigger mess than he would like to handle, but seeing his kids smile and his whole family safe and sound makes it absolutely worth it
And while all his friends are asking if he’s gonna try for a fourth so he could have a chance at a son, he’s more than content with playing tea party and dress-up with his girls
Of course, all of Central basically knows and loves your family
And your daughters are probably some of the most protected people in Amestris (aside from you of course)
But he definitely gives you all as much freedom and support as you could possibly want because again, he just can’t say no
That being said, all your girls have at least some talent for alchemy and he’s less than thrilled about any of them joining the military
But despite being spoiled, the two of you raised your girls to be powerful and strong and to not repeat his mistakes
He’s confident that no matter what paths his girls end up taking, they’ll go far. They have daddy’s wit and mommy’s looks after all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
However, there’s one thing he’s going to say no to every single time: boyfriends
And let’s just say the papa bear in him is a bit scarier than the flame alchemist ever was hehe

“You requested to see me?” You say as you enter Roy Mustang’s office.
The colonel’s office was clean and simple. The white walls and the dark brown desk and chair were always clean and organized. His desk had a phone and a large stack of papers, which were probably unread and not filed.
“Yes I did. How are you?” He asked, a small smirk on his lips.
You weren’t one for casual small talk and you inhaled sharply.
“I’m fine, sir. Why did you ask for me?”
“I needed you to file some paper work for me on some important matters.”
That wasn’t a common request you got from him, it had only happened twice, maybe a third time but that’s pushing it. As a Sergeant, you didn’t often file the colonel’s important paper work so it was a strange request from him.
“I’m sorry? File your paper work?” You asked confused.
“Yes, I’d appreciate that. Let me organize them,” he mumbled and started flipping through the papers, his eyes wandering back and forth between you and the papers.
You had been on a leave for three months and had just gotten back two weeks ago and everyone had been babying you since then. You had left because you got in a serious injury that left you barely able to walk with your right leg and you were ready to actually do things.
“Are you sure you don’t have any actual assignments for me?” You asked politely.
He looked at you with a cocked eyebrow. “Oh, I forgot about your injury,” he mumbled, continuing to stack papers. It honestly sounded as though he had forgotten about your injury and wanted you to file his papers, which made you feel a bit better about yourself if you were being honest.
“You did?”
“Yes I did. How are you doing regarding that?”
You didn’t understand why Mustang kept trying to make small talk but it was irking you slightly. You had a job to get done.
“I’m fine, it’s completely healed which is why I want an actual assignment,” you mumbled, passive aggressively.
He smirked and let out a low laugh. “After this, I promise any major assignments I receive will be given to you.”
You were greeted with an intense silence filled only with the gently sound of papers shuffling.
“Can you come here and look at these?”
You came behind his desk and he started showing you the information for the papers.
He was standing directly behind you and you could feel his breath on your cheek and you couldn’t lie, it was distracting you. His body was pressed against you and you could feel him inhale and exhale. It was distracting you from whatever words he was saying.
You couldn’t lie, you had of course noticed how attractive the colonel was when you first met, but you never thought of him romantically or sexually in any way. But all you could think of was his breathing and the way he felt pressed against your-
“Did you catch all that?”
You froze, wondering how long you had been stuck daydreaming.
“Sergeant?” He asked again.
“I’m sorry, I don’t think I was processing everything,” you mumble, embarrassed.
“Were you distracted by something?” He asked, his voice not wavering at all as he pressed his body harder against yours.
You could slightly feel his dick against your back and realized he was ever so slightly hard against you.
Was the colonel turned on? You thought to yourself. Your thoughts were kinda fuzzy and the thought of mustang being aroused by you honestly turned you on more than you’d like to admit.
“Hello? Hello! Sergeant?” The colonel called out.
“I’m sorry,” you said, you could still feel the pressure of him against you.
“Are you alright?” He asked.
You were not sure how to answer the question.
“Dammit, Sergeant. When an officer asks you a question you respond,” he commanded.
What You just had a feeling he was into degrading and praising.
“Yes, I am splendid,” you mumbled, slightly out of breath.
“Are you okay with this?” He whispered into your ear as he put his hands on your waist.
You swallowed. “Yes, sir.”
He tightened his grip on your waist and started kissing your neck. You felt his arms wrap around to the front of your body and grasp your shirt. He tugged at it gently and you could tell he wanted you to take it off. You hummed gently as you made to remove your button up.
He pulled his hands off your body to let you work as he himself stripped off his jacket. You couldn’t move tho, because his hips were pressed against your ass pinning you against his desk. You could feel his hard dick against you.
In second you were shirtless, just in your bra and your pants and you could feel his cold, hard and against your back. He continued to nip at your neck.
Honestly you had no idea what was to come, but you were hoping it would be you.
You gently pressed your ass harder against him and he groaned into your neck. In one swift motion he suddenly unclipped your bra and grasp your breasts in his hands. He gently rubbed his rough thumbs along your nipples causing you to squirm.
“Do you like that?” He hummed into ear. You nodded and bit your lip. He gently tugged on your pants and you sighed. What was he doing to, turning you into a puddle?
He quickly pulled your pants off and his followed after and you gaped at his now fully revealed dick.
It was huge and dripping precum. It was probably seven or eight inches long and was as thick as your fist.
“Holy shit,” you mumbled.
He smirked. “Not what you were expecting?”
“I see why you’re called mustang,” you giggle. He let out a low chuckle.
“It’s just my last name, darling, but I guess it holds a double meaning.”
You open your mouth to add a quip but he quickly shoved you over his desk, your hips pressed against the edge and your ass up, fully exposed to him.
Papers went flying as he adjusted you on his desk. He ran a hand along your spine to your ass and your skin erupted in chills. You gripped the far edge of his desk as his cock continued to brush against your ass.
He pulled one leg up, closer to the desk and gently rubbed your clit and you moaned loudly.
“If you don’t shut up, Sergeant,” he threatened. You nodded in response.
“I’m sorry, s-“
He cut you off by pushing his cock inside of you and you bit down on your lip to keep from screaming out.
“Oh you feel good,” he hummed, adjusting himself. He squeezed your ass. “Good girl.”
He pulled out of you then quickly rammed back in and grunted.
He held your leg propped up, and wrapped his arm around it so he could rub your clit as  he continues to pound in and out of you.
You could feel a knot forming in your stomach as he continued to edge you, bringing you closer to your climax as he overstimulated you.
“I’m really close,” you mumbled quietly, your hips getting rammed continuously into the desk edge.
He pushed into you, taking you to your edge until your orgasm spilled out. A mere second later he reached his edge and his orgasm came over him, filling you up as he came. He rode out his orgasm then pulled out of you.
“Are you okay, Sergeant?” He asked, putting his clothes back on quickly.
You were partially stunned and your hips hurt and could feel the bruises forming on them already. You nodded.
“Yeah, I’m fine, that was, wow.” You couldn’t quite find words. You started putting your uniform on as well.
When you were both fully dressed, he stood in front of you and smirked. “Well as long as you’re good, I need these papers on my desk by tomorrow at 9.”

ok "shakarian is space royai" is the most galaxy-brained take i've ever heard please say more
Shakarian is space Royai. Shakarian is just Royai but in space. It's the same dynamic. (Not exactly the same, mind you, but so extremely close that it makes me go feral a little bit whenever I think about it.) It's about the trust about the vulnerability about the "you watch my back you can shoot me in the back I trust you to shoot me in the back" vs the "you trust me to watch your back that is the most precious thing to me you trust me to shoot you in the back I would never shoot you in the back". It's the sniper with extensive burn scars on their body x their extremely tired commanding officer who may or may not have committed war crimes but chooses kindness over everything in the end. It's the fucking PTSD, the tenderness in the face of an end-of-all-organic-life scenario, the "don't go where I can't follow" / "there's no Shepard without Vakarian". It's the being an unstoppable unit on the field when they're together. It's the shared trauma and the shared gentleness. Also Garrus is soooo Riza coded, even down to the fixing/modding their guns, the parallels just don't stop, whenever he calls Shepard "Commander" I just see Riza's "Colonel". Did I mention the sniper and the burn scars and the insane loyalty to their CO. Garrus Vakarian is space Riza Hawkeye, and it's so beautiful, really, then, that Shepard is space Roy Mustang. Which, yes, makes Shakarian space Royai. Mic drop.
I made another post that I'm too tired to link but imma just reblog it so it's under this one 😅

Royai week 2023 fic recs
In honor of Royai week in the Fruits & Roots server, I chose to highlight some of my favorite Royai fics I gathered these past years (not many years, since I've been on AO3 for 2 years and a half only). Each day, I'll recommend a few fics in a particular setting
Day 2: What is this woman to you?" "My protector." - Alternate Universe fics
From historical to modern to space, there's alternate universes for all tastes with Royai!
Pretty Scars That Made Me Yours by Poppy Pelican / @poppy-pelican, rated T
Six years after the Promised Day, Mustang, Hawkeye, Alphonse, and Mei are brought together on a search for a man with no name.
There's Royai, there's Almei, slow-burn, there's Soulmates! (that's why I put it in AU fics, even if it's post-canon) (there's already a lot of fics for my post-canon fic rec list)
[fic + podfic] Elegies and Bittersweet Odes by goneadrift, klainelynch, theaceofdragons / @goneadrift @klainelynch @theaceofdragons
It's a familiar story: The lost loved one, the alchemist's gambit, and the high, high price. But her stratagem is different, and her price is paid not in flesh but in endless, lonely years. She watches him live and die, and she finds herself unable to do either. And yet, through lives and deaths and centuries, love can carry you home.
I cried in my car listening to that podfic, and cried again when I read the text. That's all you need to know how good this fic is
and we're the only ones dancing on the sun by starsinherblood / @jedidragonwarriorqueen
When Rebel demolitions expert Roy Mustang is stranded on a hostile planet after a mission, it's up to X-wing pilot Riza Hawkeye to rescue him.
A Star Wars AU that I loved!
in my darkest hour by lantur / @lantur
Three months in the Grumman-Mustang presidential ticket, as told by Senator Mustang's Chief of Staff and the man who would be Vice President of the United States.
There's drama, there's politics, and there's lantur's writing that takes us in the story and doesn't let us go until the end
Ex tempore by Tasia (ruikosakuragi)
Historical/Gangster AU. New York, 2000. Riza Hawkeye comes into the possession of a family heirloom upon her grandfather's final words: "Keep him safe." Confused and grief-stricken, Riza finds herself pulled in time to Prohibition Era New York, recovering from a gang-related firefight under the care of Dr. Roy Mustang, a reluctant member of the Hughes-Mustang crime family and a self-proclaimed guardian to two boys by the names of Edward and Alphonse.
Time and danger don't apply when they must find each other. An enthralling AU!
Sneezes by Starship_Phoenix / @starship--phoenix
AU where every time one person sneezes, their soulmate sneezes. A few Royai scenarios.
Short and sweet soulmates AU!
what will you leave behind? by klainelynch / @klainelynch (yes, again!)
Riza Hawkeye spent her entire life trying to make the world a better place. In the afterlife, she has been tasked with caring for the souls of the dead: helping them with final requests and unfinished business from their life on earth. As she helps others prepare to leave through the Everdoor, Riza will discover what she’ll be asked to leave behind as the new Spiritfarer.
I literally gave this AU a tag for my reblog of each update: #it's monday it's time for my weekly cry. But it's so good and thanks to it I played Spiritfarer and I can tell you it's an amazing game (also really moving, like the fic!)

Hi :) Just wanted to say I love all your analysis regarding Roy and Riza :) I'm also a big fan of this otp and sometimes I wonder when they fell in love and who was first? Was it Riza, who seems to have first loved the idealistic dream of a naive young man to the point that she also recognised it as her own? Or was it Roy, who, at the lowest point in his life, found someone who still believed in him? I'm really curious about your opinion.
Hello! :) Thank you very much. Sometimes I feel a little insane with thoughts running through my head, so it's nice to write them down and that others read them too. I really appreciate it and read every response.
But on the topic, I think it would have been Riza. She talks in one of the untranslated spinoff games that she tried to impress Roy once by cooking something elaborate for his birthday. It tasted terrible and it gave him an upset stomach. But he ate it without complaining and still praised her for her efforts. She was so moved by his kindness she vowed to get better at cooking to impress him better and she did! She is a good cook now. (I'd have married her on the spot wtf).
I can imagine her kinda disliking and distrusting him at first. Here is this stranger who suddenly moves into her house and steals her dad. But he keeps being annoyingly nice to her, and actually cares about her and tries to connect with her. How could she not fall in love kek. But at that time their age gap may make it a bit awkward so Roy should do the proper thing and littlesisterzone her.
I can see Mustang being the first to fall in love after Ishval when they are working together. I think after the war Hawkeye could (or should tbh) hate him a little, yet at the same time she pinned all her hope and her will to live on him. Very conflicted feelings. For both of them. Mustang also hates himself, he is her boss now and feels responsible for her choices. He wants to be someone she does not regret trusting. So I guess he falls harder and faster then 🤔 But he'll probably have to keep it to himself until Hawkeye falls in love again or make some move. I don't think he would want to take advantage and he's still her boss... eh I don't know. Fanfic writers probably have better thought out scenarios. And in the end their mess is mutual.
I still also kinda want them to get together between flame alchemy study sessions, but then it would have not been about love. Sure they care for their former childhood friend/housemate, but they also have not spoken for a couple of years. Maybe it's more for Riza about doing everything her dad would have hated while Roy gets laid with his cute childhood friend so he ain't complaining. I'm sure Roy being a hopeless romantic will try and make it good, but yeah, there is not much or deep love involved. They never intended to see each other again after anyway.
Sorry it got long :")

A love confession
Hehehe, the truth is I wrote this letter for me because I am terribly obsessed with ♥ Colonel Roy Mustang ♥, I also enjoy letters in general, usually writing them in character with my DnD OCs but now that I've read almost all the Roy Mustang x Reader fanfics I could find, I'm craving for moreeeee. Left possible scenario for it to happen as well, I hope you like it.
----- Colonel Mustang, who usually confronts things directly instead of writing letters, has decided to confess his love for you through one. He knows you are a sensitive girl and judging by the number of books you read, it's obvious you like written expressions and admire different styles of writing. You find it among one of the reports you are about to file on a rainy afternoon.
-----
My dearest (y/n),
Words fail me as I try to write this letter, for the feelings that flood my heart are too great to describe in ink and parchment. From the first day you entered my office as my assistant, you brought a light into my life that I never knew existed. Your grace, intelligence, and unwavering dedication enchanted me, captured my thoughts, and filled my days with indescribable joy.
In the realm of duty and military affairs, I have always stood strong and been guided by the principles of justice and order. Yet inside my heart I have discovered a vulnerability I never expected. The strength and determination I display on the battlefield are nothing compared to the fierce passion and adoration I have for you, (y/n).
Your presence alone ignites a fire within me that burns brighter with each passing moment. Your smile, so radiant and genuine, has the power to lift the weight of the world from my weary shoulders. Your unwavering support and commitment to our cause inspires me to be a better man, a leader who deserves a woman as extraordinary as you.
I am aware of the complexities that arise from the intertwining of personal and professional lives, especially within the confines of our military hierarchy. However, my heart compels me to put these considerations aside and speak the truth that I can no longer withhold: (y/n), I am deeply and unequivocally in love with you.
Every fleeting glance, every touch of our hands in the midst of shared tasks, every stolen moment we steal away in conversation, all of it fuels the flame that burns within me. I can not imagine a future without you by my side, and I long for the day when we can embark on a journey of love and partnership.
But please understand, (y/n), that I respect you and the professional boundaries we must maintain. Should my feelings not be desired, or should our circumstances prove too complicated, I will bear the burden of this unrequited love in silence, for the sake of our working relationship and the stability of the mission.
However, should there be even a glimmer of hope in your heart that returns the affection I have for you, I would be honored beyond measure. In a world where chaos and darkness so often reign, our love could be a beacon of hope, a shelter that protects us from the storm.
Please take time to reflect on my words, (y/n), and know that regardless of your response, my commitment to our common cause remains unrelenting. My duty as a soldier will never waver, but if fate allows, I hope to stand not only as your commanding officer, but also as the man who cherishes and worships you.
With all the love my heart can hold,
Colonel Roy Mustang

this poem but make it royai
I Am Not Yours I am not yours, not lost in you, Not lost, although I long to be Lost as a candle lit at noon, Lost as a snowflake in the sea. You love me, and I find you still A spirit beautiful and bright, Yet I am I, who long to be Lost as a light is lost in light. Oh plunge me deep in love—put out My senses, leave me deaf and blind, Swept by the tempest of your love, A taper in a rushing wind.
Sara Teasdale, "I Am Not Yours"
Obviously there are different interpretations of this text, I'm just going to point out what stuck out to me. Also for anyone curious here's linked below I Am Not Yours arr. Z. Randall Stroope as well as my biased overanalyzed Royai reading of this lol.
youtube
Today I was listening to the above choral arrangement with this text and since I happen to be rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist at the same time I couldn't help but draw parallels from this poem and, of course, Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye.
Side note, coincidence but the text was also first published in 1915 which is right after the climax of the FMA storyline. So I imagine this being from both Roy and Riza’s perspectives, after everything has happened and Ed and Al have their bodies back.
In this poem, the narrator longs to be loved so deeply and intimately. And yet this juxtaposition exists in which the narrator cannot allow themselves to be lost in the other person, or perhaps they are refusing to lose all self control. They want to, need to be their own person and their s/o is their own person as well. It paints this beautifully tragic picture of something that the narrator feels they can never achieve. The fact is that no matter how much they want to experience this love, they feel that they never can because of their circumstances.
Taking some of the imagery more literally, let’s talk about the “lost as a candle” line. As the Flame Alchemist, Roy is extremely powerful. On a smaller scale, a candle is powerful in that it cuts through darkness; a spark can start a flame. But a candle's range is limited. For all the light and warmth he can produce on his own, Riza is Roy's true light in his life; she is "noon" in this scenario. So much of what he does, he does for her. She in turn is the light that keeps him from going astray and giving into his burning desire for revenge against Envy. She keeps him from performing human transmutation (of his own free will).
If Roy is warm, burning, charismatic, driven, Riza is cold, calculated steady, and distant, at least on the outside. Her time in Ishval and in the military has left her hardened. She does not hesitate to take others' lives if it's to protect her loved ones. She also does not hesitate to point a gun at her very own colonel when she knows he is doing something he will regret. I find it interesting that the two similes in the first stanza are so opposite, and yet the meaning is the same. Roy and Riza are two different sides, but the same coin. Roy is the hot, passionate fire, and Riza is the cold winter snow, but they equally desire to be loved by each other.
Although both Roy and Riza may wish for something more between them, and they know that the other is a "spirit beautiful and bright," there are all these legal and emotional barriers that prevent them from being together. Roy has dreams of becoming Fuhrer, Riza has people to protect, the military has laws in place preventing any sort of romance between officers. Riza and Roy long to be loved, completely accepted in the face of the horrible burdens that they carry. But even if they acknowledge that they do love each other, there are so many obstacles that they face to doing anything about it.
The third stanza culminates in what the two deep down truly desire - to be completely enveloped in love and companionship and acceptance. And Roy is the only one who can do that for Riza and vice versa, because of this long, scarred history that the two share. This is something so raw and intimate, something that the two feel they cannot admit - have they even admitted it to themselves? But the reality is that they would give up everything for each other. Roy literally did go blind at one point in the story, after an act of immense love and trust for his lieutenant.
This is a final, silent plea to the other to not hold back, seen in the expression (pain? jealousy?) in Roy's eyes when he watches Ed and Winry get happily married. Seen in Hawkeye's stolen glances across the office to her colonel's desk. Yearning silently, yet desperately, for the day that they can unashamedly be swept up in the other's love and desire, but unsure if that day will ever come.

do you just one day realize that you have tons of ideas and Aus, and half of them- if not 3/4 of them will be forever forgotten?
Like. When I tell you the amount of things that I come up with during one day is... Is unbelievable? Sometimes it is the same plot but different scenarios.
The other week, I was going back to my old chats with my bestie, and I was shocked to find this very old Au that I came up with, ( Papa Royed obviously.) and the fact I drew for it too??
I also Reopned an older Au, called “ Roy Elric.” which, really, Roy in Trisha’s shoes. Does that mean Riza is Ho? No I don't think so. I was inspired by this older fic on Ao3, and kinda doodled for their Au.
Another Au- Tangled. I have only shared this with my bestie, but basically when the “ kingdom dance.” music was trending- which has been my favorite type of music since I watched Tangled which was in 2011 😂 when I heard it again, I realized how much that song ( music.) will fit Fma, and 2 ideas came:
what if Fma had a culture? Like, dances, foods, and Music and clothes?? I started designing Riza’s costume over good 9 months ago, so if you are interested I will love to share
Idea number 2 is basically your classic Fma x Tangled. With Ed as Punzel and Roy as Eugene and Ho as mother gothal. Not that Ed is a prince, but the idea of him being locked and Roy freeing him to show him the world.
There is this other idea, that Roy adopted Ed and Al before they committed the taboo but kept them a secret to protect them?
And the idea of Royai retiring and having Ed and Roy is blind and military comes and Ed learns who his parents are?
Also, I never realized that I have been writing regressed Ed? Like, I never did until I started following Mayliz ❤️ and I was like. “ hold up, this has a name?” and then my bestie pointed it and was like, “ Your Ed always regressed,” and I was like “ oh yeah.” and kinda tempted to write a whole fic with that WITH AL AND ED being regressed
What If the taboo failed BECAUSE Ed isn't Trisha’s biological son?
Like, gah, I didn't even scratch the surface of these ideas. And I want to write after math of Hughes’ death! And OH MY GOD I HAVE THE AU WHERE ROY WAS IN HUGHES’ SHOE!
Okay okay, so instead of Gracia and Elysia, it’s Riza and Ed and Al, but the catch here is that Riza isn't a solider, she is just Roy’s wife, one day when the whole team goes around to fight Envy they find Mrs. Mustang there with her husband’s gloves, KILLING Envy? Like having no shame because he killed her husband and orphaned her kids. This would mean, that Riza is an alchemist too. Roy probably taught her to keep herself and the kids safe just in case
Also, I do want to write a fic where the boys just grief the loss of their dad
😩😩😩 I don't joke when I say this is just a normal day with my brain, haha, I just wished I had more time to draw and write. I am busy currently, but I am hoping and praying that mid of December won't come without me posting something. I want to finish Took my kids? Take my fire now- which, has been on my chest since last year and there is no way we're going to Jan 2024 with this fic unfinished
And yeah I guess this is all have to say today, is there an idea that you liked? What do you think of this haha

Yandere Roy Mustang Hc’s
Tumblr media
🔥Roy is aware and, unsurprisingly considering the war he went through, protective as a Yandere. Without a doubt he finds himself on a paranoid spectrum when it comes to his darling since he got traumatized during the Ishval Civil War and his position in the military makes his loved one a fine target for his enemies. His emotions tend to influence his behavior yet it never gets to the point where he reaches the point of justifying his obsession. His feelings were wrong from the beginning and he feels ashamed for it yet wouldn’t really talk to anyone about it for the longest time. He goes for the option of forgetting at first, keeps his fine distance as good as he can yet his head and heart are unable to let go of you and instead it just ends up as a slow torture for him where his patience is put up for a good test.
🔥Roy is quite good in manipulating and putting up a facade so he definitely masks his swirling obsession behind his charisma and charm. The moment he realizes and admits that he can’t function properly anymore by distancing himself he instead starts pursuing you. The man is aware about all the rumors circulating around about him such as him being a womanizer so he wants to solve any misunderstanding before it can even form. Pulls out all the flirting and pick-up lines he can think of and dedicates as much time to his darling as he can. When they wear new clothes or have a new haircut, he’s the first to notice and compliment them for it and he even recalls perfectly anything that they only mentioned briefly. Usually holding back with his possessive side, it can flare up quite a bit the moment Roy starts feeling more insecure about himself.
🔥Many of his friends might just try to get under his skin the moment it becomes clear that the Colonel fancies you to which Roy himself retorts most of the time with a half-amused and half-scolding tone. Those friendly yet teasing jabs are within what he can handle since he knows that his men only mean it as a joke. If someone who he is rather unfamiliar with becomes rather friendly, Roy is already much more serious and takes instinctively a step closer to you. He interrupts whatever sentence his counterpart might try to say to you in a passive-aggressive tone after a while, shields his darling and makes it quite obvious that he just wants to leave this situation with his s/o as quick as possible since he clearly doesn’t like the other person. Worst case scenario is when he feels insecure about himself, either because he had a bad day or you two somehow got into a fight and you’re still mad with him. Not only will his possessive side really lit up and make him short-tempered but he’ll also be more needy than normally towards you after giving the other person a burning and frightening glare.
🔥Roy as a State Alchemist and his high position has a lot of power on his hand. Power which he could very well use to his advantage. That’s the exact reason he hesitates and decides to not take such shameless advantage of it though, only when something really can’t be solved any other way. Normally his reputation, position and his intimidating and arrogant vibe he often gives others is enough to keep them at bay. He’s willing to let something small slide though he gives a sharp warning and keeps his eyes on the culprit for a long while after. He doesn’t hesitate to arrest someone the moment they plan to harm his darling and will make sure that they’ll be out of your life for a long time after or ideally even forever. Roy is someone who simply loses it the moment he finds out that someone actually succeeded to attack and hurt his s/o though as his fear, protective side and anxiety get triggered, above all his wrath though. He has a hard time thinking clearly when he’s in a state like this and if there is no one to stop him, he will kill the person responsible.
🔥He ends up monopolizing your time often when he sees or feels the need to do so. Either he feels insecure and wants his darling to reassure him that they love him to ease his doubts and fear long enough for him to gain enough composure to stop being more clingy than usually or you were or are still in danger. He’s paranoid, insists stubbornly and even sternly for you to come with him and to not stray away from his side. You aren’t allowed to leave his sight and are forced under permanent watch, either from him or from one of the members from his team. If you are targeted in any way, he’ll schedule you to move in somewhere else until the threat is over. If you break up with him, he’ll fall in a black hole where his consciousness clashes with his inner demons. There is radio silence until he succumbs to his darker side and starts sabotaging anything in your surroundings to get you back.
🔥You might sometimes sense that the palms of his hands heat up a bit in moments where his temper flares up or he notices that you’re cold. Never enough to harm you, just enough to make you aware. Roy would never hurt his darling, he wouldn’t be able to live with himself since they’re what he treasures and loves most in this world. There are moments where he turns rather scary and strict even to you when he feels triggered and in the worst case he threatens you to use Alchemy against you, even demonstrates it a bit to frighten you. He’d do a lot to avoid letting your relationship escalate that far though. The man is needy and clingy when he is sleepy, all the more when he had a terrible and exhausting day in the military.
