what is unholy about? i can't tell from the description. is it angels and demons, or witches? i see something about covens?

could you give us a little bit of info on what unholy empire is about? i’m excited *-* 

Yes, certainly! I left the promo rather vague, but I’ve just tweaked a minor detail which should provide much more clarity. I was inspired by several sources when creating the concept for Unholy Empire – among them were the Twilight series, the Vampire Knight manga, and the Grisha Trilogy. It’s a conglomerate of fantasy elements, but the characters would predominantly be called vampires. Then again, the precise term is debatable. 

It’s a very rich universe which is still coming together in my mind. The world is not one that we know, nor is its history one that we’re necessarily familiar with with. From the beginning of time, there was no mercy nor forgiveness, only dominion and conquest. War is savored, rebellion demolished; and at the pinnacle of the empire which has swept the world, a select group rules, as cold and immortal as stardust. 

The roleplay will follow the intricacies of their war games, as well as the blood politics of their court. After all, every glorious venture hides a far darker truth; and every empire at some point, like a house of cards, must collapse.

hey to you all and sorry for the delay 3x over, i’m just online very sparingly at the moment!! the only place i’m at currently (by the grace of incredible, patient admins) is @terrorhqs and i can’t recommend it enough - mindbogglingly talented writers, one of the most unique plot lines i’ve seen to date, and the group chat is a constant source of laughter. to throw out other rps that havent been named, i’ll also mention @moksharpg, @timejumphq, @crownshqs, and @diveronarpg!

At what point should roleplays close if they’ve perpetuated toxic and racist environments? With Shiverhq and the abysmal handling of how they protected Nessie rather than kicking her out, and Unholyempire’s extreme tone-deafness, is it better for these roleplays to close at the end of the day? Or is it better to give space for growth? What is a deserved second chance, and what isn’t?

i think its up to the admins , but honestly . . some rps CAN turn things around if they’re completely transparent in their mistakes and are genuine and open  in turning things around and keeping open communication to the people they’ve hurt. some rps CAN turn things around . they can be honest . they can own up to their mistakes , just like everyone else. but it gets to the point where if you ignored the first 5 people mentioning your problematic behaviour , but it took you having to be told by 10+ people . . . that’s when it’s a problem with you and your behaviour to believe others , and thats when you should probably shut down the rp because . .how are we , or anybody , meant to believe you and your ‘ sincerity ‘ ? how are we meant to listen to you when you haven’t listened to the others who told you the same thing 500 times ? some rps just need to cut out and admit they’ve fostered toxicity and enabled it . close it . do better . take a break . educate yourself . do better . do fucking better .

also i feel that anon about wanting to stay anonymous (i do too) because it seems that the roleplay is quite popular despite all this.

It’s easy for people to pretend they support Black lives and then ignore and support rps that are fine with anti-blackness by ignoring the concerns of black people. That’s just how the rpc works. But you and that other anon’s, and everyone else’s feelings and opinions about their problematic racism are incredibly valid regardless of the fact that they’re being ignored by @unholyempire

i saw your reply on the unholyempire ask @ pocmuzings. as a person of vietnamese descent, i was uncomfortable with mix of asian cultures the admin presented for one of the covens. were you able to address the issue with risa? i sent an anon in to the main, but she wasn't very responsive or apologetic.

yeah, someone i know who was thinking about joining the roleplay brought it to my attention and after reading through the initial pages of what was originally released on unholyempire i felt the need to send an anon about how the portrayal of the house of night could be seen as extremely problematic and racist. i knew that risa was asian and seeing what looked like an appropriation and amalgamation of asian culture and influences just made me feel disappointed because i felt like she should have known better. 

i wanted to stay anonymous at first, but after it seemed like i was never going to get a response and i didn’t know if she was acknowledging my messages at all or not, i messaged her privately and we’ve been discussing the last few days about where she went wrong and about the changes she can make to the roleplay. i will say that she has been taking in what people have been saying and she’s been open to having me and a few others look over her work to make sure it is no longer problematic. as for her responsiveness, i did bring this up to her in one of my initial anons and later in our private conversations and she has admitted to me since that her initial approach could have been better.  

before i saw those asks on pocmuzings, i thought for a while it was only me and my friend that had issues with the rp because we only knew one another had problems with it so to know that we weren’t alone in our thought process makes us feel a little better.

Thank you for letting me know! I just checked every possible combination and it looks like the same person took them all: unholyempire-rpg, unholyempireroleplay, unholyempiresrpg, etc. 

My heart dropped when I saw this, because I was just about to release the main and post the opening announcement. Unfortunately I have to go to work now but if anyone knows anything please let me know!
