My family and I have fallen on some hard times. We are not the type to ask for help, but this Hurricane has humbled us. So many loved ones reaching out to see how they can help has been the driving force keeping us going. So we decided to set up a @gofundme for anyone who wants to donate. We also will have a temporary address hopefully by next week and will be accepting donations that way as well. Anything we don't need will be donated to other families in need. Our neighborhood was hit extremely hard and we had neighbors clinging to life in their attics who have also lost a lot. Anything helps, even a share 💙 Remember to be kind to the person next to you. We all are going through a traumatic experience. The only way through it is to heal and come together 💞 #gofundme #hurricaneian #familyiseverything (at Fort Myers, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjVV4H-rpWE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

New Post has been published on https://techcrunchapp.com/it-just-adds-up-how-hotspots-and-computers-do-not-close-the-digital-divide-for-students/
‘It just adds up' | How hotspots and computers do not close the digital divide for students
Tumblr media
Texas school districts get money for hotspots and other connectivity devices. This report shows it may take us all chipping in to close the digital divide.
SAN ANTONIO — Diana Uribe didn’t want her five children out of school, but COVID-19 concerns weigh too heavy.
“This is where all the WiFi’s are,” said Uribe’s little girl pointing to the lower-right corner of her computer screen.
Uribe asked to keep her daughter’s identity private.
The WiFi shows up on the computer screen, but often doesn’t have a signal.
When school began, the household had two hotspots and had a school bus parked in their front yard to give off WiFi.
The bus needed to go back in service shortly after school started.
“But it just doesn’t let me log on. Let’s close it real quick,” the girl said.
“Is that how your teacher told you?” Uribe asked.
“I was told I need to restart my device because sometimes it doesn’t work,” the girl said.
RELATED: Former Texas Longhorn, Kansas City Chiefs DE Alex Okafor sponsoring Pflugerville school with educational program
The two walked off the front porch and towards the parked bus.
The teacher joined late. So, after the students logged on and worked out technical issues, not as much time was spent for instruction.
“If you can imagine having multiple kids in one household. It’s a lot,” Uribe said.
It’s a lot for teachers, too.
Priscilla Monta teaches Advanced Placement U.S. History at Southside High School.
Monta said her students often have connection issues and alert her through emails when they get service back.
“‘Miss, I missed class. My internet keeps kicking me out,’” Monta read. “‘My hotspot is not working. I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be disrespectful to you.’ ‘Miss, I appreciate your patience with me. It keeps kicking me out of my class. This is three and just this last session.”
Monta got four emails in less than 10 minutes.
A 2020 state broadband report shows Texas is one of six states that without a broadband plan.
It shows the State also has problems with regulations, coordination, transparency and broadband adoption rates.
“It just adds up from day-to-day when they continue having these issues. And then we expect them to do all this work when they’re trying,” Rolando Ramirez, Southside Superintendent, said.
Southside ISD rolled out thousands of hotspots and computers.
It doesn’t close the gap.
“When you see the reports and they’re just numbers on paper, but when you see families … it’s something that’s heartbreaking. These kids want to come to school. They want to learn. It’s just that this issue of having connectivity has become such a problem,” Ramirez said.
Hotspots work of cell signal.
RELATED: Austin ISD considers remote-only learning after Thanksgiving break
“It all depends on that tower and we can provide the hotspots. If that signal is not there, then there’s not much we can do,” Ramirez said.
“It’s really overwhelming and stressful / and frustrating / and it’s sometimes devastating because you can’t do it all by yourself,” Uribe said.
This is where folks like Gaby Rowe come in.
Texas paid Rpwe’s company, Grow Associates, LLC., to study where broadband falls short.
Rowe is the project lead for Operation Connectivity, Gov. Greg Abbott’s initiative to get more internet devices for schools. She helped secure a 30% discount for schools to buy bulk equipment like hotspots.
“A hotspot can work on one side of the street and not work on the other side of the street,” Rowe said.
So, Rowe is looking to get more information from providers.
“It’s incredibly important for us to know about specific addresses,” Rowe said.
Rowe’s team is building a database.
RELATED: Gov. Abbott, TEA, TDEM announce $420M reimbursement program for Texas schools to continue supporting remote learning during COVID-19
“We’re building a highly-secure database so that we can extract information from that database about areas that have coverage from providers and areas that don’t without any one competitor being able to access the data of anybody else,” Rowe said.
All of this comes at a cost.
The same 2020 report showed much of federal broadband grant money goes to providers and  not states.
The Governor’s Broadband Development Council claims the Texas Universal Service Fund (TUSF) is unable to pay for programs throughout the year.
The fund is part of standard cell phone bills.
“The current TUSF assessment rate is 3.3%. Over the years, TUSF high-cost disbursements have shrunk from a high of $572 million in 2006 to $198 million in 2019, excluding administrative expenses,” the report showed.
School districts like Southside ISD have a plan for students who attend school at home, but don’t have broadband access.
Teachers give paper packets.
“Every teacher is different,” Uribe said.
For some, printed lessons and assignments, come with a code.
“They have QR scanners, which is a scan to see videos for the classrooms,” Uribe said.
“So, you still need the internet?” Erica Proffer, reporter, asked.
“The internet, yes.  So they log on to YouTube to watch those videos. Then, [teachers] will discuss with the students,” Uribe said.
The need for connectivity remains.

Private Blog Networks or PBNs have a vilified reputation of being “black hat SEO” but this is a poor way of looking at an SEO tool still used by many just by other names.

What To Do With Your Political Site After The Election
9 months ago
Its something farthest from your mind, I’m sure.  If you’re working for a political campaign you’re pushing forward and the next 5 weeks are all out war ahead.  What to do with your campaign site after the election?  Heck I suspect some of you are just now getting around to your website, or many feel it hasn’t helped in the past so no need to worry.  You’d be wrong if you fall into either of those mindsets, if you’re the diligent one you’ll find the rewards are like a garden. I started renting a house in my hometown after returning
SEO: How long does it take to rank #1 on Google?
It Takes About 3 Months To 6 Months To Rank #1 On Google In the world of politics everything seems to be able the last week of an election, after that its over.  In the business world you have to keep going after a certain defined date to remain in business.  Political SEO requires keeping in mind the business world because in Google ranking they are your biggest competitors and the other candidate is likely just as I was talking with a politico kind of friend in the last two days about the need in getting in contact with any
What Is Domain Authority Why Should I Care?
Domain Authority is in my opinion the single greatest indicator of a sites ability to compete organically for search traffic.  It is a great question and its simply complex.  Keep in mind Domain Authority or DA as we shall refer to it pretty much here on is the single best number to predict ranking ability and we know that the top 3 positions consume over half of all searches so it can be directly attached to traffic. A few disclaimers: Domain Authority is not a Google creation it is from Moz.com and it is their educated guess at how

Tracert in SEO: Can Help Ya Track Your 301 Redirects Tracert is a command thats elementary to networking and computers.  Trace Route or Tracert does exactly what it sounds like, and its useful cause it tells ya every ip address it passes through between the server and the catcher (not technical terms there).  It explains where speed issues are in a global perspective or in your home. Bad Backlinks: 100 Sites You Don’t Want A Backlink From.
Bad Backlinks UltimateSEO.org has backlinks from about a thousand domains.  In a recent review of these I found an odd reoccurring link from multiple domains but all with the same content and titles.  I was introduced with "The Globe" which charges sites to NOT list them or makes money from SEOs paying them to not backlink to them.  At $36 a link they're likely insane and I bet its bringing in some money.  But before we go all crazy and start paying Ransomlinks (if its not a word I claim it ... Ransomlinks are backlinks from bad sites meant to

How To Rank Your Site On Google...Forget the Keywords Well don't totally forget the keywords but I think if you spend more than 5 minutes on keywords you're going to be pretty surprised by some purported data I stumbled across.  As you likely know Google uses about 200 factors in determining your sites ranking.  I personally have place a lot of emphasis on speed and backlinks and while I have thought it was important I must admit I didn't give the social media factor as much attention as I should. The first big thing to not is that 10.3% of
PBNs: Private Blog Network – The Crack Habit Of SEO
5 months ago
First off, lets note that PBNs are not viewed well in traditional SEO and are hunted like witches in Massachusetts in the 1600s.  They must be large to matter, having anywhere between 20 to several thousand sites. They are the equivalent of building dozens of WordPress sites taking hours and hours from other SEO opportunities. They work. What Are Private Blog Networks? Private or Personal Blog Networks, PBNs are sites built with the purpose of providing backlinks to another site.  This other site is often called "the money site."  Google is known to be hostile to these sites and prone
Backlinks 101 – SEO’s Off-page Often Ignored Power Ranker
5 months ago
Backlinks 101 First off a little disclosure this article over laps the Backlinks category of the FAQ. What Are Backlinks? Backlinks are links from other sites.  Think of them as votes of affirmation.  Only one vote can come from a domain so for SEO purposes it doesn’t matter if there are 100 or 1 link from the same domain one link is the count you gain.  Subdomains are viewed separately...thats why yourblog.tumblr.com isn't a tumblr backlink.  Now those other links may increase traffic to your site but in regards to SEO value its one vote.  Some call this metric

Creating A Private Blog Network: PBNs In 2019 For SEO

Each PBN site will include registering the domain, setting the name servers and hosting the site. First and foremost the most important aspect of your Private Blog Network is randomness.  Consider what pattern or foot print your PBN might have and avoid that commonality. Patterns and commonality to avoid in building a Private Blog Network Good PBNs Are Random, Start With Different Name Registrars First off you need private domain registration, if not private then you’ll need people and addresses from all over.  If you always use Godaddy you’re going to have to try out others to avoid a

In PBNs 2019 Part 1 we discussed some logistics of organization on a high level concerning Cloudflare, Spreadsheets and above all randomness.  In this the second part of our private blog network series we’ll focus on expired domains and the assessing of their value. Domain Authority Is One Part First, we will look at Domain Authority but before we do lets note Domain Authority in and of itself is worthless.  It IS NOT used by Google.  It is made by a company called Moz and it is their best guest how Google interrupts the content on a site based on

An easy way to build backlinks is through directory submissions.  Anything hard though is worth more, so keep in mind directory submissions don’t carry the weight that in content links will.  With that said there is still diluted value in link directories, just don’t focus on them. Is A Site Low Level? DA vs CF vs TF … DR, DS, AS, TS and more!
What to do with a low ranking site? I was asked a seemingly simple question by a client today. Should low level sites he owns be scrapped and used for their backlinks by 301 redirecting the sites. Simplest Answer: I think it's hard to quantify if a site is low level. Ultimateseo.org has a DA 19, that seems pretty low. But keep in mind it used to be a DA 40 before Moz changed it's scoring. Keep also in mind that change in scoring showed no reflection in the site's ranking. I recommend 301 redirecting based on anchor text

Parts of a Recliner
See more on Reclinercize:
Recliners are either sofas or armchairs that recline when the back is lowered and the front raises. Usually, most recliners’ backrest can be tilted back allowing the footrest to automatically be lifted or manually set into place. This warrants the different parts that manufacture either kind of recliner. Knowing your recliners parts could come in quite handy in assembling and repairing your own chair. No need to get rid of your favorite chair. It’s perfectly molded for your body, no should tell you to get a good new one. Fix yours.
Delivering a relieving comfort for its owners, recliners are the best welcome home for their owners. There is a variety of them with either offering different levels of quality and construction. These ultimately affect the comfort offered by each. Recliners variation is basically based on their design that allows each chair to push back differently as it reclines. The four types are loveseat, push back, rocker, lift recliner and riser.  The parts of recliners may slightly be different but each chair is fundamentally the same.Their unique features and parts allow their specialized functions some of which include reclining, rocking, swiveling, lifting and massaging.
Different Parts of a Recliner
Rocker Frame
The rocker frame is made out of wood, usually hardwood. This supports the chairs constant swinging motion and weight shifting. It is reinforced with metal bolts, nuts and steel corners that ensure maximum support. Sometimes, fiber boards are used for minor frames to enhance backrest support.
The rocker frame on a recliner is the most vital part. It determines the basic functionality of the chair, supports the seating surfaces of the chair as well as its outlook. It includes the base frame and the rocking frame (consists of backrest) which are determined by a rocker base part and a rocker cam, respectively.
Rocker Base
It is the surface upon which the chair is placed alongside the base assembly parts, the former allowing it to stand on the floor. The rocker base assembly part of the recliner supports the linkage mechanism that allows the chairs to recline and sometimes swivel. These parts include metal end rails and metal side runners. The latter are usually Z-shaped cross-sections whole the former, extend in between thereby covering the parallel ends of the side runners.
Rocker Cam
Rocker cams are often mounted on the base of the chair. Recliners posses both left rocker cams and right rocker cams that allow the rocking motion of the chair, both backward and forward on the side. The two rocker cams mechanism allows them to complimentary interlock to one another thus allowing the motion.
Footrest
Footrests are usually pivoted to the chair. An adjusting mechanism is joined to the rocker frame of the chair and the footrest part allowing the occupant to ease the reclining tension of the footrest to their liking. Footrests are vital and a malfunctioning one may strip your chair of both it’s comfort and functionality.
Linkage Mechanisms
Each recliner chair has these linkage mechanisms that allow and promote its functionality. They include a drive mechanism, a footrest mechanism, and a recliner mechanism. The recliner mechanism is attached to the base. The footrest mechanism is coupled to the recliner mechanism by an extension linkage. It allows the footrest mechanism to unlock thus permitting the occupants weight and drive mechanism to move the chair into reclining position.
The position of these linkage mechanisms may determine the placement of the recliner handle. The recliner handlers on the left side facing mechanism and right side facing mechanism are on the left and right-hand side respectively.

How to Display Recent Posts From A Specific Category In WordPress
Do you want to display recent posts from a specific category in WordPress? The default recent posts widget shows posts from all categories, and there is no option to filter them by category. In this article, we will show you how to easily display recent posts from a specific category in WordPress.
Filtering Posts by Category in WordPress
If you just want to create a page to display recent posts from a particular category, then your WordPress site already has separate pages for each category.
You can add links to all your category pages by visiting Appearance » Widgets page and adding the ‘Categories’ widget to your sidebar. You can also add categories in your navigation menus.
On the other hand, if you want to show recent posts from a specific category in your sidebar, then there is no default widget for that. The default recent posts widget does not allow you to filter posts by category or tags.
Thankfully there is another way. Let’s take a look at how to easily display recent posts from specific category in WordPress.
Method 1. Show Recent Posts from a Category Using Plugin
This method is easier, and it is recommended for most users.
First thing you need to do is install and activate the Recent Posts Widget Extended plugin. For more details, see our step by step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.
Upon activation, you need to visit the Appearance » Widgets page and add ‘Recent Posts Extended’ widget to your sidebar.
The widget menu will expand to show its settings. You need to select the category or categories that you want to display under the ‘Limit to Category’ option.
The widget comes with a lot of options that you can customize. You can show post thumbnail, date, relative date, post summary / excerpts, and more.
Don’t forget to click on the save button to store your widget settings.
You can now visit your website to see the recent posts displayed by category.
Display Recent Posts by Category Using Shortcode
The Recent Posts Extended Widget also allows you to use shortcode to display recent posts anywhere on your site including posts and pages.
You will need to edit the post or page where you want to display the recent posts from a specific category. In the post editor, you will need to add the following shortcode:
[rpwe limit="5" excerpt="true" cat="72" ]
This shortcode displays 5 recent posts from a specific category with the post excerpt. You will need to replace the cat value with the ID of the category that you want to display. See our article on how to find category ID in WordPress.
After adding the shortcode, you can save your post or page to view your changes.
Method 2. Display Recent Posts From Specific Category using Code Snippet
This method requires you to add code to your WordPress theme files. If you haven’t done this before, then take a look at our guide on how to copy and paste code in WordPress.
You will need to add the following code in your WordPress theme files where you want to display recent posts from a specific category.
<?php $catquery = new WP_Query( 'cat=72&posts_per_page=5' ); ?> <ul> <?php while($catquery->have_posts()) : $catquery->the_post(); ?> <li><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"><?php the_title(); ?></a></li> <?php endwhile; wp_reset_postdata(); ?>
The first line of this code creates a new WordPress query with a specific category ID. You need to replace it with your own category ID. It only shows post title in a list.
You can change it to display full content by adding the following code:
<?php $catquery = new WP_Query( 'cat=72&posts_per_page=5' ); ?> <ul> <?php while($catquery->have_posts()) : $catquery->the_post(); ?> <li><h3><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h3> <ul><li><?php the_content(); ?></li> </ul> </li> <?php endwhile; ?> </ul> <?php wp_reset_postdata(); ?>
You can also replace the the_content with the_excerpt to display post excerpts instead of full article.
We hope this article showed you how to easily display recent posts from a specific category in WordPress. You may also want to see our list of most wanted category hacks and plugins for WordPress.
