I know I'm probably just cynical (I also know what its like to be paraded out to the public by your company to show how diverse they are) but RT must feel like they hit the jackpot with Alfredo. Like last year I swear they included him as one of their Hispanic creators, but didn't include him as one of their black creators, but this year when they seem to have fewer people, they've hauled him up in there. On the one hand, I appreciate they are highlighting POC and their talents, but on the other hand it very much always feels like a power play, it has the air of someone showing off their collection of rare pokemon cards rather than actual human appreciation.

i don't agree or disagree with you because i'm lacking some context, and that's kinda on me. i never followed rt's accounts outside of youtube (and peeping their twitter account sometimes) so the main main thing i saw irt them celebrating marginalized racial identities was stuff for hispanic heritage month. while i also wouldn't be surprised if were a "look at how diverse we are"-type thing, considering their poor treatment of black people that they've repeatedly been called out for, i feel like the most important person who can clear it up is alfredo himself, you know?

Holy shit go to the RTX website and go to where they list their badge tiers for the con. Fucking 650 for 2 lottery chances for a autograph. 1500 for 2 guaranteed autographs. Also cost 20 to watch live streams from home, but those streams will have cut out any exclusive announcements or teasers. What a shit company.

Everyone's talking about this today and for good reason. I mean, this would be an eyebrow-raiser at any time, but specifically now, in 2022? I know a lot of people have reached a point where they're acting like the pandemic is over (it's not), but even if that were the case, we're smack-dab in the middle of all the long-term repercussions. Unemployment rates have just barely made it back to what they were pre-2020. Gas prices are skyrocketing. Generally speaking, the cost of living is insane right now. If you want to hop a plane to RTX be prepared for a hefty bill and the risk of another summer Covid surge (to say nothing of, you know, being there). If someone told me I had to shell out 650 for a pass and two autographs — on top of all the other expenses of going — I would have laughed and said sorry, I can't swing that. But that price for just the chance of autographs? That's where it gets insulting. These prices are steep for a lot of fans, especially right now. The very least RT can do is guarantee a reward that makes shelling out hundreds of dollars worth it.

And what's the point of paying for a stream if they're going to cut out what 99% of the fanbase is there for? I mean sure, people enjoy the rest of the panel, but that's the kind of stuff that if you're not already there in person — or getting it for free — you're probably fine with looking up later as a transcription of what was said, a shitty phone recording, etc. It's been over a year since the end of Volume 8. People want information on Volume 9. So eliminating that precise information rather defeats the purpose of tuning in. Or, more specifically, defeats the purpose of giving 20 bucks for the privilege of tuning in. To be honest I don't think 20 is a bad price at all for virtually attending the event, but that opinion rests entirely on the buyer getting to watch the important bits.

I get that they need to make money — they're a company, after all — but there will always be fans with the desire and the means to pay for certain perks. You can turn a profit without pissing off the majority of the fanbase. In my experience, stunts like this just encourage people to pirate and/or ignore the event until information is free. It'll probably be the latter given that excluding announcements and teasers is likely a way to keep people from screen recording and sharing the content... but fans always find a way lol. And if they can't, the result certainly won't be to pay for an event that doesn't include what they wanted in the first place...

Also, not to be That Person™, but are RT peeps worth 650 for an autograph, let alone just the chance at an autograph? I mean yes, that price is for the event as a whole too, but let's be real, the rest of the additional stuff (lanyard, 10% discount on the store — which is easily eaten up by this price — early access to exhibition hall) aren't really what most fans will be interested in paying that kind of money for. It's the autograph. And I'm by no means an autograph expert, but most of those I've come across are 50-100, reaching up into the 400-500 range for A-list celebrities... which I wouldn't call the RT crew. It just seems WAY too expensive to me, all on its own, but right now when so many in the U.S. are struggling, travel simply isn't an option for most, there's risk involved, etc.? That's insane. Obviously it's been like this for a very long time, but we've absolutely left the "RWBY is a passion project made by nerds just like you who want to share their creativity ^_^" like no RT isn't just looking for fair compensation for a popular product, they're out to squeeze as much money as possible out of your wallet during the worst possible time. I hope the higher tiers/the virtual stream bombs, showing them that no, this is not a good way to get your fanbase excited to pay for your content.

I rolled my eyes at the incoming FaceTime call from Ciarra. I was not in the mood to speak to her right now. Sighing, I dug around in my ‘Coach’ shoulder bag to find my AirPods. “Waddup?” My tone held no enthusiasm as I greeted Ciarra.

I looked to my left once I noticed Christian trying to peek into my phone screen. Luckily I had my privacy screen protector on so all baby boy was seeing was black. “Who dat?” He whispered as he turned down onto our familiar street. We were on our way home from the Italian restaurant Gillian’s. We had a cute little lunch date after our couples therapy session.

Ignoring his nosy ass, I tuned into Ciarra’s words. “Leilani, I am so sorry for what happened yesterday. I swear the only reason Chanel even knows about you and the foster care system is because I told her about it when me and you first met, which was like three years ago. I didnt even tell her on any malicious shit. I was describing Sean’s little sister to her, and I told her that you and Sean were split up after your parents died. And while Sean was adopted, you were in the system. When I tell you that I told her that literally three years ago? I didnt even know that sis remembered that shit.” She pleaded her case before adjusting what I’m assuming was her iPad, on top of her growing stomach.

Before I could respond, Christian’s voice rang through my ears. I didnt even peep that we were now parked in our driveway, and he powered off the truck. “You coming in?”

“Hold on, Ci.” I held up a finger to my phone screen before turning to look at him.

“You can go in without me, babe. I’m talking to Ciarra right now.” He nodded with understanding before reaching into the back seat and grabbing my ‘to go’ plate from the restaurant. I gave him a quick peck to the cheek before returning to the FaceTime call.

“Waddup, Ci!” He yelled before slamming the truck door. “Tell big bro I said waddup.” I chuckled at how much of a nigga she sounded like.

“But for real, Lei, I would never tell my sister shit about you. Especially since I know y’all don’t fuck with each other. But like I said, it was deadass three years ago when I told her that. She petty as shit for mentioning it last night, and making it seem like I’m just out here spilling your business. Shit wack.”

I just stared at her as I allowed her words to sink into my brain. Ci ain’t ever been on any disloyal shit since I’ve known her. I decided to go with my gut and take her words for their value. “I trust you Ci, and I accept your apology. Just so there’s no confusion, please don’t tell your sister shit about me moving forward. She got an ass beating coming from me, and that’s just me being real.” I shrugged as I awaited her response.

She only sent me a small smirk. “Throw in a punch for me.” I literally laughed out loud before telling her that I would text her later.

It was only me lounging in the house on this Thursday evening since Christian had some emergency meeting with his staff down at ‘The Plaza’. I snickered to myself because his building was really raggedy as shit. His staff were always fucking up. My staff, on the other hand? Deciding to not be ratchet, instead of @‘ing her on her own timeline and having a bunch of nosy mf’s in my business, I simply texted Ciarra and asked for her to send me Chanel’s number. She sent it with a quickness and then asked what’s up? I simply left her on ‘read’ before deciding to FaceTime the bitch.

She answered after the fourth ring, I’m guessing she was taking a minute to recall the unknown number. When she answered it looked like she was outside at a pharmacy or something. “Hello? Leilani? How you get—“

Cutting her off, I got straight to the point. “You plotting on my man? Cause I just seen some questionable ass tweets from you. And I wanna get confirmation before I really beat dat ass.”

It took her a few seconds to wipe the shocked expression from her face before she spoke. “What tweets?”

“Bitch stop playing with me. You know what tweets I’m talking bout. This the reason you got beef with me? Cause of Christian?” I shook my head once again in disbelief because shit was quickly starting to make sense. I never did shit to this bitch and she has always given me an attitude from the day we met. Whole time shawty was mad at me because she wanted my man.

I aint never been in this predicament before.

“I dont want Christian. We’re just friends…”

She sounded scary as shit right now and all that caused me to do was end the FaceTime call. I quickly FaceTime’d my honeybun and prayed he was done with his meeting and could answer the call.

“Yo! Wassup baby?” He turned down the music in his truck as he placed his vision from my face and to the road. He was driving, so I’m assuming he was on his way home from The Plaza.

“Baby, ima ask you a question and be honest with me, okay? You ever had a thing with Chanel back in high school? Even if it was a simple ass kiss… be honest.”

“What? Hell no, Lani. That girl is not my type with her stuck up ass. Who told you that shit?” He kept his eyes on the road until he came to what looked like a stop, and then looked back into the camera.

“This bitch on twitter firing off all the subliminal ass tweets about me and you! And then she gonn tweet some shit last night about you holding me back from beating her ass. And that’s how she know she’s winning. Some dumb shit like that. Then I facetimed shawty just now to ask her if she wanted my nigga, she gonn deny everything. Sounding scary as fuck.” I breathed deeply as I envisioned the thousand and one ways that I was gonna tear that bitch up.

“What the fuck is good with her? I never had shit with that girl and that’s news to me that she would be feeling me. We were never ever like that, believe me, babe. We ain’t really start speaking until some years ago when Sean started messing with Ci again.” I watched as he shook his head in disbelief. “That’s why she never liked you? Dead ass?” He shook his head again and then mumbled that he was outside the house.

I ended the call then went to open the front door for him. I smiled big when I noticed the box of navy blue roses in his possession. “Are those for me, babyyy?”

“Nope. They for my new bitch, Chanel.”

My eyes slanted at him as he hunched on the front steps laughing. I simply slammed the door in his ugly ass face before walking back over to the couch. “Don’t be slamming no doors, Lani!”

I ignored him and only went back to twitter. I felt like a whole stalker being back on Chanel’s twitter page. Knowing her ‘do it for the internet’ ass, she would tweet about me confronting her on FaceTime today. And once she made that tweet I would let her, as well as all of her followers know that I was on the way to beat that ass.

“Stop looking at me like that, Lei. You know these roses are for you. Come here.” He easily snatched my phone from my possession and slipped it into the front pocket of his slacks. He then placed the flowers onto my lap before ducking down and kissing my lips. I easily set the flowers to the side of the couch and wrapped my arms around his neck all while keeping the kiss going.

He groaned when I ran my hands down the front of his slacks, and wrapped my hand around the imprint of his dick. “You look so sexy in your boss costume, baby.”

“It ain’t no costume.” He chuckled before picking me up from the couch and carrying me in the direction of the den. “Ima fuck you on the pool table. Remember last summer?” I smirked and only nodded as I rushed to pull my tank top over my head. This should be exciting.
