"The rule of two: 'When the apprentice gets strong enough, they overthrow the Master and the cycle continues.'
The irony of the Sith aiming for immortality is that the dark side only brings death to those who did not manage to turn to the light side of the Force.
The dark force is unstable, unpredictable, and short-sighted. It makes you feel good in a drug-induced euphoric way.
Not everything that makes you feel good is morally good. But it's easy to be mistaken as you live in a cosmos where the dark comes to you, whereas *you* have to come to the light. What comes to you with fiery momentum is easier to embrace as right, 'this must be it.' The light just exists; its harmony with everything the universe is and isn't; you just have to concentrate and listen. It certainly doesn't impose itself onto you.
On a personal and societal level, we have embraced the dark (anger, pain, fear, envy, melancholy, denial, impulse, revenge) as the norm. We live in the absence of light, and that's why we can barely agree on what it actually is.
How can a society, used to the dark, know the difference? What if many times we think we talk about light vs dark when in reality we talk about dark vs darker?
According to the Sith code, through power, you'll be free. The code implies freedom from others, more like freedom from the responsibility towards others. Taking into account that the Sith only believe in passion and that every 'holy' person is not immune to corruption, it could imply 'freedom from the passions of others.' And who likes getting hate, being fearful, enslaved, maimed, or killed? No one. That's why as far as the Sith code is concerned, you better be the one to get power over others. But you are not free from your own passions as a sith lord.
It's a narrow, materialistic worldview that ends in misery, despair, crumbled empires, and death. Only the dark side of the force goes on after the deed, like a virus whereas with the light force, you live with it, with all its virtues and limitations, you die with it, you become one with it. It's more of a consensual relationship, the light is there and you have to try (train) your whole life to walk with it, whereas the dark side of the force dominates your life, your destiny, as Yoda said."

Every time Sidious and Dooku want another "they're my apprentice but this doesn't break the rule of two bro trust me"
Tumblr media
Just having the terrible realisation that the thought probably is "My actual apprentices must be human, but I still want my side apprentices to be somewhat human"

Good to know Sith infighting continues to be their downfall. Over 3000 years of it and they haven’t learned a thing! Even the Rule of Two couldn’t save them.
Suckers.

-Rules and interaction advice-
After an unexpected turn of events on Hypori, Darth Maul is... changed. His mind is dark, swimming with visions of past-present-future that scatter his thoughts and leave him restless. He does not always know when or where he is, but he is always dangerous.
Ask your questions, mind your words. Flippancy will have you barred. (Comment on any post to interact with him in character, either in RP style or as a holonet communication. Please use clean formatting of some kind. OCs, y/n, and canon characters are all welcome to run across him in the wilds.)
He knows his murderer. (Longs to meet him, to fight him again- and again- and again-) Mention that one at your own risk. If you are him, come prepared for instability.
Maul was made into a weapon, refined, for the explicit purpose to kill jedi. If you are from the order, be wary. He does desire to be more than what he was made to be. (Don't we all? And yet.)
This is not a place for the young. If you are, be gone.
The art herein is edited and originally from gffa media or similar sources. For the purpose of story telling, links are not often provided, but available via dm at any time. No AI has been utilized.
Filed under "maul's musings" you will find his journal entries, filled with the lore and sights of Dathomir. These tell an ongoing story, starting with the oldest post and moving forward.
Please use reblogs and tags to make silly or OOC commentary. The comments section is for character interaction.
For the sake of pleasant scrolling, this blog does not reblog other content, but you are welcome to send him links in the ask box.
You do not know him. No one knows him. If you wish to meet him here, introduce yourself. It is only polite.
He is hungry for company, but he is often poor company. Do not come looking for sweetness or regard you have not earned.

The whole Sith Rule of Two coming from the Dyad prophecy was always a weird addition to me and I had to explain it to myself as a potential game of telephone and appropriation that goes from "two who are one" to "one with power, one to crave it". Even if novels are often contradicted, until that happens, it seems Sith still believed in the Dyad and tried to form it with apprentices. The idea was always off to me because it would mean a Sith, someone whose ideology is based on the self first, would have to share power.
To me, I'm thinking that Sith might try to form this connection BECAUSE they're selfish. As in, they attain Dyad status, but then kill their partner to basically absorb their power. The two who are one becomes just one OP Sith Lord. Granted, I doubt this might even work. The whole point of the Dyad is unity between two people, that unique connection being why it has that power. But do Sith care? No, if it will get them more power, they're gonna try it.
However, part of me does wonder... what if this is also part of the Sith quest for immortality? If you're one being in the Force but two beings, that increased life energy might have Sith going "aha, maybe I can use this to live twice as long, and with my power even longer."
Anyway I'm mostly rambling, I'm just thinking despite these weird additions to Sith lore that on the surface seem to contradict Sith philosophy, you may be able to get potentially interesting ideas for stories here.

SDTCI Sith Stuff
Sith Ranks and their associated titles:
Dark Lord of the Sith-Darth (Revan, Bane, Sidious)
Sith Lord/Lady-Lord/Lady Sith Title (Lord Tyranus, Lady Lumiya)
Sith Warrior-Individual Sith Title (Maul)
Sith Acolyte-No associated Title (Asajj Ventress, Savage Oppress)
The “Darth” title was actually coined by Revan, following their discovery of the Rakatan superweapon known as the Starforge, taken from the Rakatan terms darr tah (Victory over death) and Daritha (Emperor). It is supposed to signify the master of all Sith, but given their...fractious, nature, it is not uncommon to encounter multiple Sith bearing the term.
The idea of Sith Lords & Ladies dates all the way back to the First Sith Empire, as the Darksiders who would become known as the Sith quickly conquered the native populaces of Moribrand, bastardized into Korriban by the Darksiders.
The idea of casting away one’s individual name and embracing a name dedicated to the Darkness was pioneered by the New Sith Empire of Dromund Kaas established by Tenebrae, also known as Darth Vitiate.
Following the destruction of the Brotherhood of Darkness, the Sith were thought eradicated from the galaxy, but three Orders of note survived past even the destruction of the Death Star.
The Rule of Two: Established by Darth Bane, last survivor of the Brotherhood, to systematically train more powerful Sith and sow the seeds for the Jedi’s destruction. Even after this plan came to fruition, the Rule of Two would survive under the patronage of Darth Lumiya.
The Lost Tribe: A splinter group of the Brotherhood of Darkness, who fashioned themselves of the First Sith, eschewing Sith Titles and the idea of Darth. They would find themselves stranded on the Wild Space world of Kesh, and would spend a thousand years ruling the planet. But following the Yuuzhan Vong War, they would return, seeking to take advantage of the weakened Jedi Order...
The One Sith Eternal: A Sith cult that espoused the idea there was only One Sith, the Order itself, as an extension of the Darkside. They made their home in the Unknown Region, venerating the world of Exegol, and the Dark secret contained therein. Following the death of Darth Sidious, they would offer their services to the nascent First Order, slowly indoctrinating them to the ideas of their Order, and their Mother...

One fanfiction idea I got from Lore Guy on YouTube is that during The Clone Wars, an unkown Sith Empire emerges from The Unkown Regions, like during the Old Republic Era when Darth Malgus retook Korriban. If this leads to a drawn out conflict or negotiaons instead of a near instant destruction of both The Republic and The Sepratists, one question needs to be asked.
How long would it take for Palpatine to be exposed?
He would have been working under the belief that he and Count Dooku were the only living Sith thanks to The Rule Of Two, and the sudden appearance of an entire Empire of Sith would throw a wrench into his plans. This could drive him to do something desprate and stupid to get his plans back on track, and reveal himself in the process.
It’s also unlikely that he would be able to win against every Sith in this Empire, at least one of which would likely be able to much if not best him in terms of raw power because they haven’t come from a group that’s had to hide itself along side The Jedi for the past one thousand years. This would allow them to train more openly, which I imagine would allow them to become more powerful than if they were following The Rule Of Two.
If they entered into peacful negotions with The Republic, it’s likely that at least one of these Sith would end up in Palpatine’s presence. And if they were to end up in his office they could point to the statues and wall decorations in it and ask, “Why does the leader of The Republic have Sith relics and decorations in his work space?”. And since such things would presumably be ileagal in The Republic, The Jedi would have some questions for Palpatine.
It’s also possible that Dooku would decide he’s better of with this emergent Empire than with Darth Sidious, and tell them everything he knows about his Master’s plans. This knowledge would allow them to counter Palpatine’s schemes which would force him to change his plans in ways he didn’t think he would have to. Thsi could lead to him making mistakes as he tries to deal with something he never considered a possibility, and it would only take one mistake to reveal his identitiy as Darth Sidious.
The biggest problem I can think of would be convincing The Jedi that they aren’t lieing when they say “Your Chancellor is a Sith Lord and he’s been right under your noses this whole time!”. Obi-Wan didn’t believe Dooku on Geonosis, so why would The Jedi Council belive this Empire they didn’t know existed?
