just spent 6 hrs memorising the basic anatomy of the ribs - SO WHICH RIBS DID JON REMOVE?? [tw anatomy]

so some facts that we know; we know he's alive because of Beholding powers, right? and also that the ribs were "something [he] won't miss" and that the second rib was a "weird one".

there are two possible interpretations of this last fact; it was covered in eyes, it was a different type of rib to the last one, or both.

PART ONE: "the weird one"

let's take this second fact to be true. this means that jon removed two separate types of ribs!!

Quick run-through - There are 12 ribs, and they're all attached to individual parts of the spinal cord. Ribs can be categorised into:

typical/atypical

true/false

bonus: 'floating' (11 & 12 only).

Naturally, it's possible that Jared got one each from either the typical/atypical or true/false categories above, but I think his specific mention of a 'weird one' that he isn't sure that he likes implies it's a floating rib.

Floating ribs are weird. They're not attached to the sternum (big bone at the front) or the costal margin (which connects ribs 7-10 at the front). They're also smaller - by quite a bit! And they would probably classify as 'non-essential' by Jon standards, for ribs. So that's one of them!

Now, which of the 4 floating ribs do I think it is? The thing about the ribs is that they have a few purposes. Like protecting other organs.

The bottom left ribs protect the liver (very very important organ!! basically all the nutrients you ingest go here! it also has like, 500 other jobs - not an exaggeration btw), and the bottom right ribs protect the spleen. Except that usually, the bones that protect the spleen, a very soft organ, are ribs 9-11.

So anyway one of the ribs is definitely rib 12 on the left.

What about the other one?

PART TWO: "something [he] won't miss"

Well, it's not ribs 11-12. It's something different.

SO, a break-down of which ribs he 'might not miss'. I can't lie, pretty much all of them are important. They all protect nerves and blood vessels & attach to at least something. Rib 12 on the left is maybe the only 'unimportant' one I could think of, and even then it helps to protect the subcostal nerve.

Ribs 1-2 are pretty important. It's almost definitely not those two. Likewise, 3-6 are important as attachments for the upper limb muscles, and also for protecting the heart. Rib 7 is kinda needed as an attachment for the rest of the costal margin as well, so the only options are 8-10, really.

But here's an interesting thing about the lungs!! Between the lungs & the diaphragm (& hence the liver, which lies right below the diaphragm), is a gap of about 2 ribs wide. It's called the costodiaphragmatic recess, and it's for your lungs to expand into when you breathe in (and they fill with air).

Depending on how far along the rib you are, it lies between ribs 8-10, ribs 6-8, or ribs 10-12. Which makes it roughly between 8-10. Now, remember that ribs 9-11 protect the spleen on the left, so we're staying away from those.

But rib 8? Rib 8 should be safe. What about right or left? Could be either. But in the interest of balance, I think that rib 8 on the right is my headcanon for Bone That Sat In Jon's Drawer.

It also has the advantage of being a 'typical' rib [ribs 3-9], so for those familiar with anatomy, it looks like a standard rib (but it will still be unrecognisable to those unfamiliar, such as ep 140 Basira).

K-pop fans rejoice! Tomorrow X Together is set to ring in 2023 with Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. The news was announced on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022 and people couldn’t be more excited.

In a tweet, the Gen-Z band revealed they will be playing their hits “Good Boy Gone Bad” and “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)” from Disneyland for the celebration. Other New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performers will include Ciara, Fitz and the Tantrums, Maddie & Tae, Billy Porter, Shaggy, Ben Platt, Aly & AJ, Halle Bailey, Wiz Khalifa, Finneas, and more, according to Billboard.

Fans of the group may be well acquainted with the South Korean crooners, but many others are wondering who exactly they are. The band is made up of Yeonjun, 23, Soobin, 22, Beomgyu, 21, Taehyun, 20, and HueningKai, 20, and they’ve been singing together since 2019. In that time, they’ve become giant stars, with huge crossover vibes.

They debuted in 2019

Plans for TxT were teased in 2017 by their record company, Big Hit Music, but the band didn’t debut their first EP, The Dream Chapter: Star, until Mar. 2019. According to their website, their name refers to five individuals who “come together under one dream in hopes of building a better tomorrow.”

Since their start, they’ve only gotten closer. Talking to NME in 2021, HueningKai said, “Our teamwork is certainly one aspect that continues to further improve with each month and year that we spend together. We can see eye-to-eye and support one another on our journey of growth both as a team and as individuals, and I think it’s really a great thing! We’re brothers.”

TxT made Billboard history

The band’s lead single “Crown” was a big hit and it even made Billboard chart history for a time. The track entered the US Billboard 200 at number 140, making it the highest-charting debut album by a male K-pop group to that date. The song also debuted at number one on the Billboard Emerging Artists chart.

They perform in multiple languages

TxT’s first two studio albums, The Dream Chapter: Magic (2019) and The Chaos Chapter: Freeze (2021), were written and sung in Korean. They expanded their reach with 2021’s Still Dreaming, which is sung in Japanese. It consists of six Japanese versions of previous Korean hits, two new instrumental tracks, an original Japanese titled “Force”, and the band’s previous Japanese release “Everlasting Shine.”

They’re on the same label as BTS

TxT is on Big Hit Music, the same label behind BTS’s success. They were the first boy band that the label debuted since BTS’s blockbuster run began back in 2013. The project was a long time coming. Big Hit founder Bang Si-hyuk hinted at plans for the group all the way back in 2017.

The group made it clear they’re not a “little brother” band to BTS in a 2021 interview with NME. “We’ve always told our own story from our debut till today and it’s a story that many have been able to relate to precisely because it’s a very real story of people living within this generation,” they said. “We’ve worked with many genres to enhance our musical capabilities and hone our sound, and through this sound, we tell stories of our generation, a generation at the crux of growth.”

The band announced plans to release the album The Name Chapter in Nov 2022. It follows their earlier EPs The Dream Chapter and The Chaos Chapter.

They teased the album with a dreamy concept trailer in early Dec. 2022, seen on Billboard. In the teaser, TxT floats around freely before being pulled up by a demon via marionette strings. Left stranded, they’re forced to take a leap of faith.

Basic political concepts Americans should grasp

You have to vote in every election. Yes, every election.  Not just the Presidential ones.  You have to vote for Governor, Senator, Congresspeople – all of your state legislatures.  You have to vote for mayor, city council, school board.  You have to do this every single time.  Republicans do this every single time.  You can too.

It takes less time to tear things down than to build things up.  This is why it’s so easy to be a Republican and accomplish Republican goals.  They are destruction artists.  It’s easy to eliminate rights, easy to eliminate social programs.  Building and codifying and establishing these things is really fucking hard, takes time and patience.  This sucks, I know.  It sucks bad.  But it’s just reality.  So when you wonder why Republicans seem to accomplish more of their goals, it’s because their goals are to burn it all down.  They’re not really goals so much as just torching shit.

Mistakes of the past will continue to haunt us and we will have to continue to fight against them.  This really sucks, especially if you weren’t old enough to vote in previous elections.  But we’re all handed what we’re handed in life, and the people who came before us who accomplished real change took what they were handed and did something with it, they didn’t just check out.  And a lot of them fought really fucking hard so all of us could do #1 – VOTE.  Do not spit on the memories of people who literally laid down their lives fighting for the right for all of us to vote by not voting or throwing your vote away.

We can learn a lot from the last generation of activists who accomplished significant change and a lot of those people are still with us, for now.  Civil Rights Leaders still exist in our society, though they’re aging out.  Take a look at what they’re saying, because you know what?  They actually accomplished real change in their lifetimes, under really difficult circumstances.  Believe it or not, there are older people you can learn from.  We ignore the lessons of history to our peril.

Do you think you have something to offer?  Run for local office.  Or get involved with someone who is running for local office.  YOU can make a difference if you get involved.  But we also have to work together.  Coalition-building has always been the key to liberal success.

i like those too! i like ep. 140-141 a lot (and the game caterers episodes on youtube that go with these), the water debate episodes, the classroom episodes, the one where they're running around the mall collecting hearts! so many of these are comfort episodes, it hard to pick a favorite of all time

I am participating in the "a mag a day" idea which is BRILLIANT and I decided to do "statement a week", rolling dice with the characters and fears that were ftw that week in the episodes I have listened.

Statement begins.

 I don’t know how you people work. Maybe you are like those bloody priests and fucking shrinks and have to tell what I am about to confess since it hadn’t happened yet…but, let’s be honest, you are a bunch of goth nerds on your old ivory tower: you must have so many skeletons in the closet you don’t want any relationship with the literal rotting and also actual burning of a public building.

Sorry, not building: Institution .

Anyways, I have absolutely nothing to lose, as I am going down with it. This World has nothing to offer to any of us, so, why bother staying in it? I am just writing to you people because…well, I don’t really know why . I’ve just heard about your existence and it sounded like a fun thing to do.

I used to never do fun things. Actually, some might argue that I am going to embrace death without having done a single fun thing in my entire life. It is not my fault, though. I had to be…maybe not the best, but more than good enough. Constantly, tiresomely excelling…if I followed the path marked for me, I would have my reward in the end. A would earn my reward…

…I just can’t figure out what that would have been. Maybe it was just death in my own terms, and I have simply chosen to speed-run towards it.

Still, I bet you are wondering what on Earth is this all this rambling about…well, how it all begun. That was, as many things do when you are studying almost any degree in any Western country, with a midnight mental breakdown.

 I was at my ridiculously small dorm room, trying my best to barely pass a subject I was supposed to enjoy. A subject I had been looking forward for years , in the hope that, maybe, this one was actually half as well-taught as it should have been…to find another dumpster fire of organisation and topics that we were meant to learn as parrots instead of by reasoning the statements learnt.

I wanted to cry myself to sleep, but that would have meant to lose another night of studying and hard-work, which I couldn’t allow myself because there were another five subjects also waiting for me to be studied…was this really how Superior Education meant to look like? What was the hope of all of us if this was our base for Real Life ?

I was about to restrain myself from getting up and throwing my chair against the dorm’s window when a voice behind me asked, in a rather cynical tone, if I wasn’t ashamed of still getting disappointed at a System that had been failing me since primary education. Upset at the rather accurate argument (mainly about not having had it first) I turned to face one of my classmates, a pretty regular boy that would very likely enter that category commonly known as twink . He had always been shy, nice, and well-put; never top of the class but not as terrible at all tests as me. He had his group of friends, a couple teachers that treated him a little bit better than it was usual and another pair that seem to believe he was public enemy number one.

In other words: the most mundane boy of my class, just stating something I already knew, even though I only acknowledged it completely very deep down. Obviously, I asked him what on Earth he was doing in my room and why bringing that subject just before exams. For all answer, he gave me a pill, smiled with a fake kindness that froze all my blood streams and told me that it was a present: if I ate it, exams would become considerably easier.

In the stupidest yet smartest movement of my entire life, I did so.

 Since then, my marks improved wildly and even my proficiency when it came to deal with works for uni was better beyond all measures. I was the student I was supposed to be, with a bit of free time every other week!

And nothing else changed . Everything was equality shitty, just while I was being perceived as much smarter by people whose opinion I didn’t value that much, if at all.

Exasperated, one night, while at a bar, the boy from class came to me. At first, I didn’t recognise him, for he was that level of dull and mundane-looking, but then, the cynicism in his voice was unmatchable and he asked me if I tried to drink while the pill was still keeping its effect.

I jumped, yelling about how stupid he thought I was: I wasn’t about to OD for the shake of an experiment whose purpose I hadn’t even been explained and he…he just shrugged and told me, once again, what was the other option I was so hell-bent on preventing from changing. He might have called me a coward while he took something that looked a bit too much like degraded plastic from inside his irregular fingernails.

Was this the first time he had such poorly preserved nails or I was just seeing him clearly for the first time?

I didn’t waste more time in thinking about that. Somehow, the fact that there was something extremely dirty and broken about him, as small as it was…just made him much more compelling as an actual human being I was interacting with and not just a delirium for the barely slept nights.

Without contemplating why I was doing what I was about to do, I took the stronger pill, the one he was now offering, asked for a Whisky on the Rocks and drank while shallowing.

Nothing happened (apart from the theft the prices of all kind of brewages), until I went back to my bed and felt asleep.

Do you know our buildings are filled with insects, extremely flammable and with foundations as weak as a nonagenarian’s pair of knees? My dreams did; they were just documentaries, à la History Channel and, somehow, I knew they weren’t lying.

Not about the poorly made buildings that had cost me my sanity and hopes in mankind, but also about how the current human body was far weaker than it had been various generations before, so overprotected while being destroyed by the junk we put inside of it that it had basically become a ticking time-bomb against its owner .

I decided to prove whether this was as true as I believed it to be.

You have heard about the latest deaths of local students? The one that had the most random allergic reaction to a very particular clothing material? The one that couldn’t digest too much vegetables out of lack of habit?

Well, I must say, my dreams were right.

 And that is why I am destroying the University next week. That and the fact that, now that I am literal top of my class, my opinion towards it has not changed in the slightest. I must thank that boy; he has an extremely ragged raincoat, had I mentioned it before? I hope so…it just matched him .

Circling back: I am doing what my dreams showed me. Well, more precisely, two of the most likely scenarios simultaneously. There will likely have no repercusion when I finished, except for some that will lose jobs and lives in the process but…there is nothing in this life that could make me feel responsible for cutting the thread that connecting them to this plane of existence before time. And I really don’t care about it not mattering in the end.

Maybe, even, they should be grateful to me. You all should. Just as I am.

  Well…this person had obvious mental issues and yet…it is a clear example of how Jon described the Extinction to me (he was so adorable being excited with something that took his mind off The Web and the rather bizarre new direction The Institute is heading towards).

I also can understand why Floyd Matharu, even being a Desolation Avatar, can be so scared of what might happen if they got enough power. Sad to have to agree with the new boss…

Fear of the screw-ups of mankind itself…I just hoped I could get better the whole University bit. Even as they described it, it sounded better than my personal alternative.

Uh…this is harder than I expected, I just hope Peter’s idea of bringing the whole staff to have a drink is still on (he is quite talkative for an End’s avatar, I must say).

Okay so I’m a literal bag of emotions rn and tumblr is my unfortunate sounding board, so ima get all this out in one and then ima shut up & go back to just reblogging others until I can control myself again😂 okay? okay. Buckle up.

I know Fire can be heartbreaking & unexpected but that ending was just evil and purely-for-shock value-cruel. Like I know killing off characters for advancement is nothing new here but the way they did that was just so mean to me - I am literally still shaking about it.

And PD?! I cannot believe they think that episode (no matter how incredible the acting) comes anywhere close to the ending / write off that Jesse deserves after dedicating himself for the last 9 - ALMOST 10 - WHOLE SEASONS to this show! And as for that giving justice to his character, show me WHERE?! Because all I saw was so many ooc choices, all to get out of a shitty situation that inevitably led to a complete decimation of years of character development / growth & him being written out in the most confusing af way, as an attempt to keep it even loosely linked to the jay we know and love.

I don’t even know how to feel rn.

I am fuming. Like so, indescribably angry.

But i’m also so proud - of Jesse - of his acting & his hard work & how he’s handled this whole shit show of a situation.

(EDIT - also incredibly proud of hanako’s acting in tonight’s fire ep! If I didn’t already love both Evan & hawkami in general, so much, her performance alone would’ve broken my heart tonight anyway, because my god that girl was good🙌)

And I’m obviously gutted. So completely & utterly devastated.

Honestly do not know if the shows will even sit right with me after this let alone be watchable.

okay so I know we’re all feeling that chief hawkins is basically the CF writers attempt at a temporary roadblock on the road to getting violet & gallo back together (aka a repeat of granger & sydney on the road to brettsey) , but I’ve come to the annoyingly unsurprising conclusion that im basically in love with him and ngl ima probably throw a fit if they use him suggesting distance from violet as a way to write him out😒😂😩

Is it just me, or does this particular chicago wednesday feel like an utter shit show and it’s not even over yet?!

Like i literally feel like I’m watching the entire one Chicago universe implode before my eyes and the writers expect us to be happy about it or at least just move past it & keep watching?!

From that unbearably cruel fire ending to seeing jay turn into the one thing he’s always hated & said he wouldn’t become right before they write him out - I literally cannot think straight besides the sheer heartbroken anger fuelling me rn.

My brain is freaking scrambled and I honestly cannot see how these decisions are gonna get them anything but a loss in fanbase?!

MAKE. IT. MAKE. SENSE.
