ru struck speechless by willow pill's iconic talent show performance
"I got it. And I fucking loved it. I come from that world of drag. You are incredible. You showed us the absurdity of all of the things people take so seriously."

Rupaul’s Drag Race Queens, while tucking their genitals between their legs so they resemble female genitals: “Ok, we’ve discussed gay history, trans rights, and Black Lives Matter - are there any other oppressed groups whose struggles we could draw attention to?”
While cinching their waists and using hip padding to resemble female body shapes: “Any relevant group, who have been oppressed for millennia and are still vulnerable to violence, stigma, and discrimination to this day, all over the world?”
While putting on clothing, like high heels and dresses, that are associated with female people in their culture: “Anyone we could reference as being the origins of much of the culture we are engaging with? Whilst being resilient in the face of cruelty and mistreatment?”
While contouring their faces to resemble female people, and decorating them the way women are expected to: “Mmm... no, I can’t think of any either. Oh well!”
Now don’t get me wrong. I am not saying it is wrong for Drag Race queens to discuss other social issues, particularly ones that affect them personally - if anything I’m glad the show has become more political in recent years, to educate its expanding audiences and young demographic.
However, it would be really nice if the show and its contestants acknowledged the existence and struggles of real world women, while they dress up as us and mime along to our voices and give themselves our names. It would be really nice if they acknowledged the originators of so much of the work they do and the culture they pay tribute to. It would be really nice if women got more recognition than a single regular judge and some guest judges. If they offered more jobs to women choreographers and music producers and camera operators. If they invited women to compete on the show as a matter of course. If they drew attention to fgm and child marriage and forced pregnancy and domestic abuse rates, the way they do other social causes. It would be really nice.
