Different For Girls (1996) - Court Scene
Turns out I suck at making gifs, so here’s a cut out scene from the movie instead :D
I watched this movie only for Rupert Graves, and was pleasantly surprised to see such a well-meaning and romantic movie about a transgender woman. Though it has its flaws, the movie is still sweet and ahead of its time for discussing such topics in the 90’s, and both actors’ performances are to die for, especially Rupert’s! This man really acts with his whole body.
Not even now that trans people get a lot of rom-coms dedicated to them with a happy ending, which is why I appreciate this so much. This scene really hits home for me, especially the label part.
Full movie is on Youtube.

“A happy ending was imperative. I shouldn't have bothered to write otherwise. I was determined that in fiction anyway two men should fall in love and remain in it for the ever and ever that fiction allows, and in this sense, Maurice and Alec still roam the greenwood.”
Maurice directed by James Ivory
based on the semi-autobiographical novel by E.M. Forster
