good morning to girls who have issues with their mother, girls who take the 6 train in new york, girls who displaced their mothers consciousness and inhabited her body, girls who uncover generational trauma by giving birth to themselves on a subway platform, girls who cause space-time continuum rifts and also girls who own cats named oatmeal

Russian Doll season 2 kills me because it should be a tragedy but it’s not. You have to relive your ancestors past over and over again knowing the outcome, all of your actions are for not what has happened will happen. You can’t save your mother, you can save yourself from your mother, you have to live inside her and then deal with that forever. Your love and you are separated and you never reconnect and you never know what happened to them. Your loved one is dying and appearing everywhere but tou can’t get to the real one, you’re always too late or too early and you can’t stop her from dying.
All of these are like fundamental story bits of a modern tragedy but instead the story is hopeful. You can’t change the past, you can’t change who your parents were or what happened to them, you can’t change bad things that are happening and that’s okay. You have to accept that they’re out of your control and just go smoke a joint in the bathroom. There’s a freedom to accepting that and accepting that you have to live in the present with the people who love you now.

that part where nadia’s like “because of the laws of physics?” and alan’s like “i was gonna say human nature” because really what’s the difference!!! two completely separate understandings of the universe and inevitability but at their core the same thing — and that’s exactly who alan and nadia are to each other. reflections of two completely different people and yet, at their core, entangled together into one thing.
