@daemoniumregem said: "I haven't been to the Domain, but it seems like I was missing out."

Sidon couldn't help it; he beamed. "There's a saying—that Zora are masters of two arts; fishing, and first impressions! Behold its truth!"
They stood together, royals from east and west, at the peak of the Rutala Dam. In the pale glow of the late moon, the crystal pillars and rising platforms of Zora's Domain shimmered with dazzling silvers and resplendent blues below. 'Behold its truth'—he'd laughed after he'd said it, but Sidon was evermore a proud son of its makers.
But this time, his eyes stayed not with the striking arc of the great stone fish, but with Ganondorf, curious and alert with interest. The air of grandeur and power matched the many tales of the Gerudo, who were otherwise seldom seen by Zoras. Word of the Gerudo king himself, however, were two-fold; there was the one that his people knew best—the terrifying battle master of the Lightning Country whom few challenged and survived.
And then there was the word of Link, who insisted on his benevolence. And surely as he trusted Link, Sidon trusted this—no matter the low thunder of dread the sound 'Ganon' made in his heart. At least, this was the word he chose to act on.
What of these words did Ganondorf hear? Which did he believe?
"But you came here, and not the bridge," Sidon continued. "What makes you hesitate?"

here is the problem with my experience playing tears of the kingdom as opposed to my experience with breath of the wild. we got breath of the wild the year or maybe the year after it came out, at the same time we bought our family's switch. I had no exposure to anything legend of zelda at the time; the extent of my video game career began with wii play and had ended with wii party. I didn't even start playing breath of the wild until probably over a year later—i was perfectly content to sit in the living room with tmy siblings and watch my dad play. he got through at least two divine beasts before I began, and I had already seen at least 70% of what the game has to offer before I even picked up a switch controller. thus my own botw experience was very much out of order. I picked the desert as my first divine beast quest to conquer; instead of taking the beaten path to zoras domain after encountering sidon in the marsh I stacked up on stamina effects and scaled rutala dam; all that good shit. I became as invested as I am now over the course of Several years.
so by the time tears of the kingdom came out it was a huge event for me and my siblings. they preordered it, we gathered to watch flynn start the game at midnight, and then I started playing as soon as humanly possible in between his and my younger siblings' turns, since we still only had one switch and it was a digital copy anyways. and now my dilemma is that I've completed all my maps and a whole bunch of my main quests within the first year of playing. really, less than that; I hardly play anymore because I'm afraid to finish. flynn had beaten botw like 3 or 4 times before totk came out, but I didn't do it for even the first time until less than a month before the totk release. anyways my point is I'm dying to know What Happens but once I beat the game then I've beaten the game and that's a horrifying event that in my mind shouldn't even think about occuring until at least 4 years from now

Testing the waters
First part of a first fic, feedback more than welcome. Pls enjoy
The nobleman Sidon was focused in Mipha’s court, keeping the sludge at bay and providing clean water to his homeland. The task is taking a toll on Sidon’s spirit but he stands unwavering before his duty. At his side, Link was aiding him, manually removing the gunk from the water to the best of his abilities. Whilst physically draining, the procedure was mentally dull, and Link provided good company. The prince was able to confide easily to the swordsman. Standing here, a dedicated memorial to his beloved sister Mipha, usually made Sidon even more talkative than his already talkative self in front of others. His extraverted demeanour was often exaggerated whenever it came to his sibling. He felt the need to appear overly cheerful when in memory of such heart crushing sadness. He felt no such need to fabricate a better version of himself around Link. He talked solemnly with the Hylian. He was recounting the battle he fought side by side with him against Vah Ruta.
“I remember when I first saw you don our people’s armour. It fit you perfectly my friend. “
”I would even say you were meant to be one of us.”  he chuckled.
“As sad as I am to see you leave us to aid others, I must selfishly admit that I’m delighted when you stay here with me, with the Zora I mean.”
Sidon would bring peace to the kingdom himself if it meant that Link would linger but a bit longer is his domain. Whilst the prince is very friendly, he has very true friends he trusted. He could count them on one hand ; and he counted Link twice. He could see why Mipha gazed so longingly at the Hylian, with his flowing blond locks and his eyes that conveyed more than the silent swordsman would ever say aloud. He was starting to gaze at Link himself.
The two continued their labour for most of the day, stopping only to eat if food was brought to them. It was an almost blissful scene should you ask Sidon. Link by his side, the sky falling from the heavens, the frogs croaking in their company. The quasi tranquillity is only disturbed when a guard comes rushing to the prince.
He was shouting about the dam, a piece of sky ruins had fallen onto the dam. Rutala dam, overlooking Zora’s Domain, was about to burst. A falling piece of sky debris has critically struck it. Link and Sidon, accompanied by the guard race to the bridge of the dam. They take in the damage done by falling ruins. They  had cemented themselves dead centre of the dam’s outer wall; some wreckage of it fell into the river below, disturbing the fish and urging them downstream and scaring a stray Lizalfos scuttling away.
The dam would buckle under the added pressure of the ruins sent from the heavens. Should it break, the citadel below would be destroyed. The only break in the clouds being that the Zora people would be able to swim themselves safely to shore, albeit with no place to call home.

The Realm Walker Timeline (Story Version)
I've been working on a timeline for my Zelda fic "The Realm Walker", which is set in BotW AU. This particular post is going to focus on backstory rather than events of the fic itself, and is written as if it were an in-universe book. Mostly this is focusing on what was going on in Hyrule in the immediate aftermath of the Calamity and the years before Link ever woke from his little nap. Some of this will be talked about in an upcoming chapter of "Shifting Tides of Fate" but there's nothing too spoilery here. However it is rather long and will be below a cut.
I've divided Hyrule's history into five Ages/Eras based on names pulled from the Zeldapedia and stuff I made up. These are The Era of Myth, Golden Age of Prosperity, Era of Prosperity, Age of Burning Fields, and Era of Rejuvenation. Now the first two are so far in the past there's no point trying to date things, Era of Prosperity would be EP and covers the events before the Great Calamity, I could date things later but haven't yet. Age of Burning Fields is ABF and Era of Rejuvenation is ER.
Commence the lore blog!
Overview
The history of Hyrule is long, bloody, and complicated.  No one knows for sure how long this land has existed, and separating fact from fiction is quite difficult.  From what little we know of the distant past, we can divide Hyrule’s history into five distinct time periods.
The Era of Myth
The Era of Myth refers to the time period in which the Tales of the Hero take place.  Each of these tales tell of a Hero and Goddess Blooded Princess who time and time again rise to face the King of Evil, Ganon.  Each tale is named after its hero, for example, the Tale of the Hero of Winds is one of the most popular and speaks of a hero who sailed a Great Sea using a magical conductor’s baton to control the wind.  Granted, all of this happened so long ago that it is nearly impossible to tell exactly when it was.  Separating history from myth in the Tales is also a futile effort at this point.
What we do know is that this time period ends with an event known as The First Calamity.  Like countless times before, Ganon rose to threaten Hyrule once again.  However, this time he was considerably more powerful than at any time before.  The Hero and Goddess Blooded Princess rallied the forces of Hyrule in a desperate battle against Ganon.  Just as all seemed lost, armies from the three neighboring kingdoms of Holoryna. Yosun, and Xilipi (Sy-lie-pie) joined the fray.  With an opening created, the Hero of the First Calamity and Princess managed to seal away Ganon at the cost of their lives.
In the aftermath of this terrible battle, the nations of the world united to find a way to stop Ganon the next time he returned.  Of course, we have no way of confirming if these neighboring kingdoms exist.  Holoryna is said to lie to Hyrule’s north while Yosun is northwest.  The Great Scar Canyon that separates Hyrule from the towering Empira Range beyond prevents anyone from traveling to these kingdoms by land.  Likewise, they cannot be reached by sea due to strong winds and currents preventing ships from sailing much farther north than Lomei Labyrinth Island or further east than Gerudo Bay.
Xilipi is said to be to Hyrule’s west, past the Gerudo Desert.  Fierce sandstorms prevent anyone from attempting to search for this nation.  They say Gerudo Bay is just to the east of Xilipi’s borders, but no one has managed to sail past Gerudo Bay and return.
The Golden Age of Prosperity
With the nations of the known world united behind the common purpose of preventing another Calamity from occurring, the time period known as the Golden Age of Prosperity began.  The Sheikah Tribe developed miraculous technology that improved the lives of the people.  For example, this technology was combined with the Zora’s expert stonemasonry to build the massive Rutala Dam in a single year.  This dam effectively controlled water levels in the Lanayru Region to end the catastrophic floods that would otherwise occur every ten years.  The Rutala Dam stands to this day as a symbol of cooperation between the peoples of Hyrule.
The Sheikah Tribe’s technology was also used to produce terrifying weapons, the Guardians and Divine Beasts.  It would be these weapons that would stop Ganon’s onslaught the next time he returned.  We don’t know how long the Golden Age of Prosperity lasted, but we do know that it ended 10,000 years ago.  What little that has survived indicated that the Guardians and Divine Beasts were able to stop Ganon, but were so effective at their task that the people grew to fear them.  The King of Hyrule at the time, who’s name has been lost to history unfortunately, ordered the Sheikah Tribe’s technology buried.
Not only did Holoryna, Yosun, and Xilipi cut ties with Hyrule after this, but the Gerudo, Gorons, Rito, and even the Zora began to cut ties with the Hylian Royal Family.  Fear of the Sheikah Tribe’s technology was so great that people began to fear the Sheikah themselves and the resulting persecution resulted in the formation of a militant splinter group.  This group would eventually be known as the Yiga Clan, which still plagues Hyrule to the modern day.  Most historical texts have been damaged, not just by time, but by fire or water.  It is suspected that the early Yiga Clan made considerable effort to destroy as much of Hyrule’s early history as possible.
Eventually, relations between the Hylian Royal Family and the other peoples of Hyrule began to normalize and the Era of Prosperity began.
The Era of Prosperity
With most of the scars healed, Hyrule knew a long age of peace.  However, the specter of Calamity Ganon loomed large on the horizon.  By this time the Tales of the Hero were regarded as little more than myth, bedtime stories for children or inspiration for soldiers and adventurers to do great deeds.  A fortune teller told King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule that Calamity Ganon’s turn was nigh.  King Rhoam established the Ancient Research Institute with a pair of genius Sheikah researchers named Purah and Robbie as its leaders.  The Institute was ordered to begin searching for the lost Ancient Sheikah tech, and it wasn’t long before they began unearthing relics from the Golden Age of Prosperity.
The Institute established the Royal Ancient Tech Lab in North Hyrule Plain, near the Ridgelands.  This location was chosen as it was close enough to Hyrule Castle to allow for short supply lines, but also far enough away from any major population center that there would be time to evacuate if something went wrong.
Meanwhile, the son of a skilled knight, while lost in the woods, stumbled upon the legendary Master Sword, the blade of evil’s bane itself!  Somehow this youth had been chosen by sword that seals the darkness to defend Hyrule from evil!  Given the fact that this youth showed surprising skill with a blade, his father was a high ranking knight, and that he was chosen by a legendary sword quickly lead to him joining the Hyrulean Army.
Eventually the Divine Beasts themselves were unearthed.  Pilots were chosen for these massive weapons, Chief Urbosa of the Gerudo for Vah Naboris, Lord Daruk of the Gorons for Vah Rudaina, Master Revali of the Rito for Vah Medoh, and Princess Mipha of the Zora for Vah Ruta.  Along with the wielder of the Master Sword, they were named Champions.  All the pieces were in place, except for one.  Princess Zelda’s sacred sealing power still slumbered.
On Princess Zelda’s 17th birthday, she made the pilgrimage to Mt. Lanayru to pray at the Spring of Wisdom.  Late in the afternoon, Calamity Ganon returned at the very heart of Hyrule, the castle itself.  Somehow, it seized control of the Guardians and razed everything in his path.  The Champions were slain one by one and the Divine Beasts seized by the Calamity.  Eventually each beast wandered outside of Hyrule.  Vah Naboris was last seen heading west into the wastes of the desert, Vah Rudaina was last spotted at Crenel Peak heading north toward the Great Hyrule Forest, Vah Medoh was last spotted heading northwest of Tabantha Village, and Vah Ruta was last seen walking in circles at Samasa Plain.
As the Great Hyrule Forest is still standing, it remains a mystery as to where Vah Rudania went.  Since Vah Ruta is no longer at Samasa Plain, one can only assume that it eventually headed out to sea.  Why the Divine Beasts fled Hyrule is a mystery to this day.  Perhaps the Champion’s spirits remain in this world and directed their Beasts to flee to avoid causing any further devastation to Hyrule?  Or perhaps Calamity Ganon sought to use them against the legendary neighboring kingdoms that opposed him so long ago?
The legends say that Calamity Ganon seeks to destroy the world; however, clearly that didn’t happen or you wouldn’t be reading this...  Reports from the Sheikah of Kakariko Village state that eventually the Malice swirling about the Castle faded, this coincides with reports from across Hyrule that the Guardians simply stopped in their tracks.  Perhaps the Goddess Hylia intervened?
Whatever transpired, the Era of Prosperity was over, and a new dark age descended upon Hyrule.
Age of Burning Fields
The first 23 years after what would become known as the Great Calamity, was named the Age of Burning Fields.  The term was originally coined by the survivors of the Great Calamity who settled in Necluda.  While the worst of the suffering in this region only lasted three years, Director Purah of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab decided to use the term to encompass all of the troubles Hyrule faced during these trying times.
Central Hyrule was completely and utterly destroyed by legions of Guardians.  As most of the Hylian population resided in this area, it is clear that the Hylians suffered the most casualties.  That said, Guardians made it as far as Blatchery Plain, the Gerudo Desert, the Maw of Death Mountain, and even Tabantha Village.  The Guardians marching to Goron City were luckily buried by lava flows from the erupting volcano.  A hero somehow managed to stop the Guardians advance at Fort Hateno.  The Rito were able to stop the Guardian that assaulted Tabantha Village and covered the evacuation of the town, however what was left was quickly obliterated by the monster hordes that followed.  As for the Guardians that made it into the Gerudo Desert, they apparently got lost in the sandstorms and ended up in uninhabited regions.
At Blatchery Plain, the region where the Guardians fell became known as Ash Swamp, as the oil leaking from them poisoned the land for many years.  Most of the suffering in Necluda was a result of ashfall from Death Mountain’s eruptions and the fires burning in Central Hyrule poisoning the soil and blocking out the sun.  Winters were much harsher than normal for nearly seven years after the Great Calamity.
In Kakariko Village, an abandoned well was converted into a small farm.  This protected the crops from the ash and snow and provided clean soil and warm enough temperatures for the crops to grow.  This keep the village going, but was unfortunately not enough to share with anyone else.  Vah Rudania had been positioned on the Pillars of Levia south of Kakariko Village before the Great Calamity.  It was here that Lord Daruk fought his final battle, and as Vah Rudania marched northward, it created rockslides that blocked the road to Sahasra Slope, cutting the village off from Lanayru.
Hateno Village resorted to foraging for food for most of the three years.  Eventually, the skies cleared and soil recovered enough for large scale planting and harvesting.  To this day in Necluda harvest festivals are major celebrations.
In Eldin, the roads were nearly impassible for a decade due to the lava flows from Death Mountain.  Akkala Citadel held out long enough for most of the region to be evacuated by sea.  The survivors ended up in Hateno and Lurelin Villages.  Speaking of Lurelin Village, it was the only settlement in Faron to survive.  Though in Faron most of the devastation was the result of rampaging monster hordes, both on land and by sea.  Some monsters had managed to commandeer ships, they began to raid any ships traveling between Hateno and Lurelin, cutting the two villages off from one another.
Hebra and Tabantha were spared most of the devastation; however, a different kind of turmoil found its way to these lands.  Most of the Rito had fled towards Torikirika (Toe-re-key-re-ka), or Rito Village as it’s more commonly known, or other nearby settlements to escape the legions of Guardians and hordes of monsters that swept across Hyrule all the way to the Ridgelands.  Many feared that the geographic isolation of Hebra and Tabantha would not be enough to keep them safe, and so they decided to flee Hyrule all together.
As you know, Hyrule is bordered on the north and west by the Great Scar Canyon, a massive rend in the earth.  What you may not know, is that strong winds blow towards Hyrule in the spring and summer and reverse in the fall and winter.  The Rito braved these winds to settle on a relic of the Golden Age of Prosperity, Takandi Village.  Situated directly west of Dragon Bone Mire, Takandi Village is built into the cliffsides and was apparently originally established by the Rito and Gorons to mine resources that were used to build much of the Ancient Sheikah technology.  The preexisting structures allowed the village to easily expand and the population grew rapidly.
Of course, those seeking safety were not the only ones who fled Hyrule.  A great many Rito blamed the Hylian Royal Family for the death of their honored Champion, Master Revali, as well as the Great Calamity as a whole.  Wishing to cut ties with Hylians in particular, they too fled for Takandi Village.  This event would become known as the Great Migration.
Eventually more settlements were built along the cliffsides of the western side of Great Scar Canyon.  The Rito had cliffside settlements on the eastern flank of the Great Scar Canyon beforehand and a few more were built in the years after the Great Calamity.  Rito couriers were able to navigate the fierce winds in the canyon, which allowed the Rito settlements to keep in touch with one another. However, political and ideological differences emerged forming a schism amongst the Rito.  Each village governed itself as its Elder chose, and while Chieftain Korli in Torikirika retained his title, it had lost all meaning.  He died 20 years after the Great Calamity, never living to see the end of the Age of Burning Fields.  The Rito have not had a Chieftain since and like Hylians, remain a broken civilization.
Era of Rejuvenation
Eventually Central Hyrule burned itself out, monster hordes dispersed, the roads through Eldin and Akkala were cleared, plants began to regrow, and wildlife returned.  After 23 long years, the Age of Burning Fields was over and a new chapter in Hyrule’s history began.  The Era of Rejuvenation.
In the aftermath of the Great Calamity, many Hylians became nomads.  Some of these nomads would eventually establish outposts.  Over time these outposts became known as Stables and they banded together to form the Stable Association, headquartered in Hateno Village.
Dueling Peaks Stable, Lakeside Stable, Highland Stable, Foothill Stable, Wetland Stable, and Woodland Stable were the first to be established.  With Central Hyrule having finally recovered, Riverside Stable was the next to be built, followed quickly by Outskirt Stable.  Meanwhile Foothill Stable branched out into Akkala building South Akkala Stable.  Curiously there was already an outpost in Akkala, near an abandoned lighthouse that had been taken over by a strange Sheikah man.  Robbie of the Ancient Research Institute had survived the Great Calamity as well and had established a new research base here.  The local nomads had set up an outpost near his base of operations, named the Akkala Ancient Research Lab.  This outpost joined the Stable Association as the East Akkala Stable.
Likewise, in Gerudo Canyon and Salari Plain, two other preexisting nomad outposts that had been cut off from the rest of Hyrule joined the Stable Association.  These became Gerudo Canyon Stable and Serenne Stable respectively.  Eventually Tabantha Bridge Stable was built, followed shortly by Snowfield Stable.
It was at Snowfield Stable that the Rito and Hylian peoples would finally cross paths again after decades of isolation.  While there were tensions at first, First Warrior Kaneli of the Rito was able to smooth things over.  He personally pledged to help keep the Stable safe from the monsters that roamed the Tabantha Snowfields.  Trade resumed between the Rito and Hylians once again, and after Kaneli became Elder, Rito Stable was built.
As with the Age of Burning Fields, the current time period was named by Director Purah of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.  When interviewed, she said she originally wanted to call it “Era of the Wilds” but decided that didn’t have the right feel and wanted something more positive, eventually settling on Era of Rejuvenation to mark Hyrule’s recovery from the disaster of the Great Calamity.
While things have been mostly peaceful the last 77 years, there are a number of worrying developments as of late.  Monsters seem to be increasing in number and attacks are on the rise.  Strange mist surrounds the ruins of Hyrule Castle.  Once quiet, the Guardians have become active once again!  Fortunately, their numbers are few and the scarcely seen mobile ones seem to stick to a limited area, as if they were patrolling it.  Of course, the most disturbing change is in the last few weeks is that the Divine Beasts have returned!  They say Vah Naboris stalks the desert sands, slowly making its way to the East Barrens, creating sandstorms and striking anyone who approaches with deadly lightning!  Vah Rudiana lurks across the summit of Death Mountain, causing it to erupt once again.  Vah Medoh circles Torikirika, shrieking sorrowfully (or so the Rito say), and firing on anyone who dare approaches.  Apparently, Vah Ruta was causing endless rainfall in Zora’s Domain, but now that seems to have stopped and it’s just sitting atop the Lanayru Great Spring, focusing a red light towards the Castle.
Is Calamity Ganon planning a return?  Has a new hero risen to face him?  How will he face the Calamity with no Goddess Blooded Princess to seal it?  Only time will tell…

Successors - Chapter Three - In Ruta's Shadow
The Champion’s Festival.
The rest of Hyrule might share a similar day of remembrance for the Calamity’s casualties, Horano did not know, but this one was strictly Zora.
It was to honor the sacrifice of Princess Mipha, who surrendered her long life to a set of Hylians that had not done any grand endeavors to win her favor.
Princess Zelda and Prince Link, they were dear friends of her lovely Mipha. But the elders had already turned against them. Stripped Link of his title, even. They were still angry about Mipha’s death, but Horano assumed they held a grudge against the gentle Wolfbred.
After all, he did reject Mipha’s marriage proposal.
But in the Hylian prince’s defense, he was already engaged to another. It was only fair to Zelda, who may have even been with child by that time. Horano did not know whether the golden little woman was expecting at the time Mipha proposed to Link, but that changed nothing. Link was already engaged to her, and had he been in love with Mipha instead, he wouldn’t have said yes.
Neither of them deserved the elder’s punishment, which involved “forgetting” to remember that Link was the Prince of Hyrule and Zelda’s husband. Not even Rhoam tried to make the world forget his daughter was married.
No doubt the elders would work to change Hylian history in the minds of future Zora youth, but that would not work on her: the shadow of the Divine Beast Vah Ruta, inactivated in the Rutala Dam’s waters, reminded her of the truth.
Horano truly believed that Mipha’s death was not a malicious act by either Link or Zelda, but rather a tragedy that was accounted for when Mipha accepted their plea. She was not a selfish soul, after all. While it did not lessen Horano’s mourning, especially on this special day, it was important to remember alongside.
Zora were beginning to gather at Mipha’s newly-finished statue. She wondered why they did not gather at Vah Ruta. Later today, she decided, she would visit the place where her princess fell. As she went to pick up the Lightscale Trident, she stumbled upon the small Prince Sidon. “Oh, my prince. Are you alright?”
His young eyes looked up at her. “I miss Mipha…”
“I do too… we all do.”
“Why did she go?”
“Because Hylia needed her…”
“Will Hylia need me?” His voice was so vulnerable.
“I don’t know, Sidon… but maybe. You’re the future of the Domain, if by some reason the Royal Family survived, Hylia will likely need you to help the kingdom.”
“Will I see Mipha again after?”
“Maybe. Only Hylia knows.” She braced his back. “But today, let’s celebrate your sister, how about that?”
Although the entire domain made an appearance at their late Champion’s statue, she was the only soul sitting in Ruta’s shadow. The quiet fit the somber mood, but she also wished someone had come.
After all, what better way to remember a late Champion than by spending time at their Divine Beast?
“Excuse me?”
Horano’s attention flipped to a tall woman standing at the entrance. At first glance, the woman’s clothing made her seem like a Hylian, but striking red hair and a muscled body revealed her to be a middle-aged Gerudo. She had been a confident soldier, it seemed, but she no longer had that Gerudo fury. "Yes, ma'am?"
"Would it be alright if I came and sat by Vah Ruta? I didn't know if it was Zora-only or not."
"You're welcome to sit here. It would be lovely."
"Thank you, kind Zora." The Gerudo came and sat beside her, looking up at Vah Ruta.
“If you don’t mind me asking, who are you?”
“My name is Esosu. Former Captain of the Gerudo Palace Guard.”
“You’re from Gerudo Town?”
“I used to be.”
Horano blinked in confusion. “Used to?”
“I fled when Chief Akeku succeeded Lady Urbosa. She rules the Gerudo with an iron fist, forcing them to abandon Hylia and Hyrule. I now live in Hateno Village, been there about a year.”
“Ah! We share something in common. Our elders are trying to force us to forget that Champion Link was married to Princess Zelda and Prince of Hyrule. They are angry at him for refusing her marriage proposal and then taking her to that fateful battle.”
“It’s sad enough that my people have turned against Hyrule. But the Zora have been long-term allies with them…”
“The King is still in favor of Hyrule, it is just some of our elders that are not.”
“Ah!” Esosu nodded in some relief. “What is your name?”
“I’m Horano. I’m a guard for the Zora Palace.”
“A small world!” Esosu declared with a few claps.
“Indeed.” They looked back up and the elephantine mechanical beast that rested noiselessly in the reservoir. “Do the Gerudo visit Naboris?”
“Not that I am aware of. We tried to find it right after Lady Urbosa fell, but couldn’t find it in the blowing sand. I left shortly afterwards; I don't know if they ever found Naboris.”
“How is the late prince’s family doing?”
Esosu startled a little at the sudden subject change, but promptly responded. “They still hurt. I don’t know if his father will ever heal… He didn’t lose just his son, but his son, his daughter-in-law, and their baby. I believe it was too much loss for his old heart. The Duchess will be alright, but I don’t think she’ll ever move on. Even a year afterwards, she still pulls me aside to show me something new that reminded her of her brother. The whole village still grieves, he was beloved by all of them.”
"Ah," Horano sighed sadly. "I hope her father will soon find peace, and that she will heal enough to live. She's got so much life ahead of her, it all will be wasted if she can't move on from her past… when her brother was alive…"

Big question. I need your opinion on something. If Mipha was never saved, and Vah Ruta was never calmed, what effect would it have on Hyrule. We know that it will flood, however I doubt the Shiekah would have the ability to create water from nothing (like to gods) so I just assume they are teleporting so the ocean won't rise. With this in mind, none of the major settlements would really be affected. Gerudo Town is far enough out of the path that the river would take through lake Hylia, Riti Village is also out of the way, and not only does it have a natural moat (if you could call it that) but also a canyon in the way. Korok Forest has magic and a moat and is also out of the way, Goron City is also to high up and out of the way, Tarrey Town is really highup and out of tge way, Zoras domain has pretty good drainage and it will probably go through the several other exits to not cause that muc damage, Kakariko Village is safe in the mountains, Hateno Town is safe and out of the way, and Lurelin Village is also out of the way and won't be damaged unless the ocean floods.
WOO LET’S FLOOD A CIVILIZATION AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS!
**Zelda meter is the meter system of objmap.zeldamods.org, but in accordance with previous posts I'm gonna convert it later to "actual" meters that I think is more realistic. You’ll see why later.
ALRIGHTY, SO LET’S START WITH MEASURING TIME!
So, East Reservoir Lake is 545 zelda meters long (light blue) and 340 zelda meters wide (blue)
Or if we want to see it as more of a circle, it has a radius of 239 zelda meters
Tumblr media
Rutala Dam itself is 30 zelda meters wide and 140 zelda meters across. (see purple)
Tumblr media
Taking a picture and using an online ruler, I found that the damn is roughly 123 zelda meters tall. (1 cm equal to 17.5 zelda meters by using the 140zm measurement)
Tumblr media
Technically speaking, the dam's depth is infinite in the game, so we'll just use this damn's height as the depth.
And before you tell me that I should count the height of the rocks that the damn sits on top of as part of the depth, I'm gonna say not because dams typically block preexisting waterfalls, and given the rounded erosion of the rocks here, I would say that is also the case. Therefore, this was a waterfall that fed into the Rutala River and is not counted for the reservoir's depth.
So, in summary:
Reservoir Length: 545zm
Reservoir Width: 340zm
LW Reservoir Surface Area: 185,300zm (That is only 0.1 zelda kilometer. For comparison, the 45th largest reservoir in the world, Capivera Dam [last place on Wikipedia list] is still 515 square kilometers. The largest ones being in the 60k areas. I’ll come back to this point later.)
Reservoir Radius: 239zm
(pi)r^2 Reservoir Surface Area: 179,451zm2 (179zkm2) [Just got these numbers of surface areas to demonstrate they're practically the same whether you see it as circular or rectangular. I think the circle will be more accurate so going forward I will be using it as my basis for calculations]
Dam Length: 140zm
Dam Height: 123zm
Dam Width: 30zm
The Total Water Rutala Dam Holds Back: 22,072,473zm3 [Instead of just using the sphere volume formula or the LWH formula, I used my more accurate surface area made with the the radius and multiplied by the dam height(is that the,,,cylinder formula? I think so)]
Rutala Dam is supposed to be the largest reservoir in Hyrule, shown very prominently on the map. The largest reservoir(by surface area) in our world is Lake Winnipeg, with a surface area of 24,514 km2, (but only has a depth of 12 meters.)
But here it is on a map of Canada:
Tumblr media
To reiterate, Lake Winnipeg has an area of 24,514km, and with zelda meters, East Reservoir Lake has an area of 179.
“BUT KIP! MAYBE EAST RESEVOIR LAKE IS JUST REALLY REALLY SMALL, HYRULE IS PRETTY SMALL ISN’T IT?”
Ok, so comparing the reservoir to one of the the largest, if not THE largest, settlements in the game, Zora’s Domain, we can see that the reservoir is several times it’s size.
Tumblr media
But you’ll also note that Zora’s Domain has a diameter of 234zm. That, the entire city, the entire DOMAIN of Zora. 234 zelda meters. Manhattan is 21,100 meters long. Manhattan, by the way, is a fifth fraction of the New York County, which is the smallest county in the United States of America.
234 zelda meters, that’s an area of 43,005zm2. Do you know what else is aobut 40k meters squared in real life? Your nearest Walmart. Just a bit bigger than your local Tesco. Supposedly the entire Zora population, that has been untouched by the 100 year apocalypse and arguably had room to GROW over this time, is living in a Trader Joes.
So I hope this illustrates why I’m converting the zelda meters used on the website to something that I think would be more realistic in the realm of Hyrule. You can find my very loud and kinda embarrassing but factual! and old post about the conversion here, same link as at the top, but essentially just trust me on the conversation that 1zm is equal to 30 real-life meters.
New Realistic Measurements:
Reservoir Length: 16,350m or 16.35km
Reservoir Width: 10,200m or 10.2km
LW Reservoir Surface Area: 166,770km2
Reservoir Radius: 7170m or 7.17km
(pi)r^2 Reservoir Surface Area: 5,383,530m2 or 5382.53km2
Dam Length: 4200m
Dam Height: 3690m
Dam Width: 900m
The Total Water Rutala Dam Holds Back: 19,865,225,700m3 or 19.8 million cubic kilometers of water AKA 19.8 billion kiloliters AKA 5.2 trillion gallons o’ agua
Now THAT sounds more like the biggest dam in all of Hyrule. In fact, it adds up with the stats of the largest dam in our world(by gallons held), that is, the Three Gorges Dam.
The Three Gorges Dam, located in China, ALSO holds back 5 trillion gallons of water/19 billion cubic meters. Although it is a lot shorter than Rutala’s measurements--I think the amount of water that it holds back will be a perfect guide to see the devastation that Rutala’s potential breakage could cause on Hyrule.
There actually is a simulation online about what would happen if the Three Gorges Dam collapsed but I’m not gonna link it cause it might be a bit too distressing, but just know that I based this on that simulation.
Firstly, the biggest sigh of relief comes from the Samasa Plain.
Tumblr media
The plain is very very low and slopes down into the Lanayru Bay, so a lot of the water would empty into there. However, the plain would then be totally submerged, so RIP to the shrines and ruins around there. Areas in red as submerged and areas in green would become islands or marshes.
And with that, the water level of Lanayru Bay would rise drastically. Blue is the new water level, dark green are islands, and light green are potential wetlandish areas that would form as time passed.
Tumblr media
But basically, Rutala river would have a new branch that spills directly into the Lanayru Bay.
So now you may be thinking,
“HEY KIP THAT’S NOT SO BAD! MOST OF IT SPILLS OUT INTO THE BAY SO IT’S NOT A LOT OS DESTRUCTION! YAY!”
And you’d be half right.
Yes, a lot of the water is going to spill out over Samasa Plain and yes, Lanayru Bay will house a lot of it. But here’s the kicker.
It’s a bay.
Not an ocean.
It would take 1.25zkm or 30km for the water to make it’s way to the ocean, and the water will be traveling SUPER fast--about 100 kilometers per hour.
And that water wants to move, it wants to flow, and Lanayru Bay cannot help all that water flower because:  It’s shallow as fuck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This chest shows the deepest point in all of Lanayru Bay.
I dropped a windcleaver down in the water: and using a generous GENEROUS estimate of 2 feet per second given the conditions of the still water in the bay--It took 5 seconds for it to float to the bottom. 10 feet. 3 meters. That’s just barely deeper than the deep end of a backyard swimming pool.
But even being extra EXTRA generous and using a real world estimate: Bays would be around 14 feet deep, roughly 4 meter. And we can be even more generous and say the sounding mountains can accommodate 30 feet of height. 9 meters. 9 + 4 = 14 meter height times 30km by 10km(width) = That’s 4.2 cubic kilometers, or 4.2 billion kiloliters of the 19.8 billion kiloliters in total.
uh oh. wheres the other 15.6 billion kiloliters of water gonna go?
It’s like taking a firehose, and filling up a bathtub. Yeah, the tub’s gonna catch a lot of that water, but that firehose has way, way, way, more water than that tub can hold, and when the tub can have a leak or hole on it, but the rate that that hose is going is astronomically faster than the rate the tub can expel water, so it’s just gonna overflow and water will still spill everywhere
[And this isn’t even taking into the account that Rutala Dam is SIGNIFICANTLY higher that it’s surrounding landscape, and would pour into the river with such a force that it could cause a giant tidal wave and break through the rocky boundaries of the pre-existing Rutala River causing even more water to flow into the bay]
Lanayru Bay would be occupied with a lot of water, and since the other 15.6 billion kiloliters of water can’t immediately flow into it, it’s gonna take the scenic route through Rutala River. It’s high mountains on either side basically just make it a death funnel.
Here’s how that would look:
Tumblr media
This is the new water level for the Lanayru Wetlands. MAn they weren’t lying, those lands do be wet.
so yeah everything is submerged in between 10 to 20 meters of water and you might be thinking
“WELL KIP, I THINK THAT’S NOT SO BAD AFTER ALL! AT LEAST NO MAJOR LANDMARKS WERE DESTROYED AND NO ONE WAS HURT!”
Well, bestie, here’s the thing. This length of land is 3 zelda kilometers long. AKA 90 kilometers long. And you might recall, I said, that this, 3000 meter tall  wall of water was traveler at 100km per hour. Well the good news is, my calculations are a lot easier for this as this large stretch of flat Lanayru Wetlands land lines up perfectly with the flat areas of Yichange, (which was actually traveling at twice the speed compared to Rutala because it didn’t have Lanayru Bay to open up into)
But the bad news is, the video is five minutes long, and this is just the first 50 seconds. This water is destined to travel 400 kilometers. That’s about half of the country of Wales, by the way. The entire length of the state of Virginia.
Here’s the rough path of the total flooding that other 16 billion kiloliters from Rutala Dam
Tumblr media
Oh, and what’s worse is that the rivers in central Hyrule? Yeah they’re like HALF the depth of Lanayru Bay so the flooding will be even WORSE :D
So here’s the new waterlevel map!
Tumblr media
Overtime, a lot of the water is gonna spill onto the paths through Central Hyrule, new swamplands, creeks, etc. etc. The path to the Gerudo Desert will be fin initially, as the water as slowed to the point where it won’t put immediate damage since the bridge is so high. But that new water level plus the influx of water from the River of the Dead is definetly gonna erode that over time and maybe possibly will just collapse and prevent anyone from leaving or entering the desert.
Hyrule Castle will be even more of an island, as the two islands to the left and right of it will be moslty submerged. Also the entire path through Eldin is just fucking done. Everyone in Akkala and Eldin? You’re trapped there. It’s basically a new Lake Hylia but no bridge. Sorry Robbie.
Oh, and also these rapid waters are carrying the debris of it’s destruction, whether the corpses of travelers or giant rocks that it broke off from the side of mountains. So everything is a mess, and depending on the amount of debris, it could completly alter water paths to go even more in land. The rivers are shallow enough, so just pilling in more rocks and dam metal and dirt just makes things shallower
Lake Hylia will be fine, the mini islands are gone, but as a whole, the bridge and the height of the surrounding ridges will keep the water in there. Although a lot of Necluda is basically a goner, and the bridge on either end of Dueling Peaks is totally decimated.
So what did we learn?
All of Hyrule’s economy is fucked. Every major trading path--gone. It’s basically gonna breed even more ethnocentricism, and a bunch of wildlife and sources for food are gone. And not to mention the climate, that’s gonna be fucked too as years pass. Rito and Zora will probably be the most fine? Hylians are fucked though, we destroyed like five stables and basically every river setllement there is. Oh and that influx of water is gonna fuck with the fishes so Hateno and Lurelin aren’t totally out of it either!
Gerudo? Well good thing they’re all lesbians because they sure aren’t going out to woe anybody once those stone pillars holding the bridge give way to the new water levels. Gorons will actually not even know anything’s wrong if I’m being honest. Sheikah? Well that point by Eagus Bridge and Sarhasra slope is gonna connect into a river at some point so I guess they can be a fishing village now.
Oh an RAIN I didn’t even think about that, yeah people are totally gonna die. And if Ruta CONTINUES to pump water into Hyrule (because again, this is only from an INITIAL burst of the damn. Well...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zora’s Domain will be gone within the year. Water levels will just continue to rise, probably take on Central Hyrule first, but then after that the Gerudo Canyon. Also if flooding in Zora’s Domain REALLY continue it would probably spill over and destroy Tarrey Town. So not good all around!
But I think the main takeaway that we can all settle with is that the Flower Lady and her garden are absolutely, positively, dead.

is the divine beast freeing quest also a thing? also silley doodle request uhh… sheik dabs and confused his father (/j)
ndkjngkfg I’ll get to the doodle request later! I just really wanted to answer this so badly cause I’ve been thinking about this lately actually!!
Yes Divine Beast freeing is still a thing! They have to do it twice tho, one is to actually free the Divine Beast with Ganondorf along with anyone else in the group, like Nabooru teams up with Ganondorf to control Vah Naboris and so on since the Champion descendants don’t know what they’re doing. Since Malice corrupted pretty badly the Divine Beasts, they don’t fully gain back control the Divine Beasts they just completely reset and become immobile. And the second time the Champion descendants and Mipha have to do the Champion’s trials to this time truly take control of the Divine Beast and be proclaimed as champion.
I want the Divine Beasts to be a threat to not only to the people that live near the Divine Beast but also the whole whole Hyrule (sorta).
Like with Vah Ruta
She’s causing massive floods in the Lanayru region where it’s pretty dangerous to take a hike or travel there to Zora’s Domain due to how slippery the ground is and how heavy the rain Vah Ruta is pouring
Vah Ruta will occasionally stomp her feet in the water creating dangerous waves. Which can be dangerous for the Zora to swim and are practically stuck inside the Domain unable to swim in the rivers of the Lanayru region
Due to Vah Ruta’s non stop rain has raised the water levels in the Lanayru region have slowly increased to the point where some of the traveling routes it once had, have slowly been submerged underwater. The rivers have become wider and are infested with dwelling Lizalfos
A big worry for the Zora and Mipha is that the flooding and dangerous waves caused by Ruta's stomping would become unbearable to the point where the Rutala Dam will break and cause a bigger flood, they don’t know what they would do if that does become reality.
Vah Rudania
Vah Rudania creates trembling earthquakes and earth shaking roars from time to time. It irritates the Gorons but there’s nothing they could do about it.
The earthquakes has caused multiple Talus Dodongos to emerge from the ground too frequently, which has sometimes lead for the Gorons to be a little too overwhelming to hunt many at a time
Rudania also launches large boulders at random locations of Death Mountain
A big concern is that Vah Rudania has been slowly getting closer to Goron City and causing way too many earthquakes. A huge worry for the Gorons and Tarú is that if one of Rudania's earthquakes is too strong, it can awaken a large nest of Talus Dodongos that dwelled deep beneath Death Mountain. Not only that but activate Death Mountain.
Vah Medoh
Vah Medoh creates cold gusts of winds which can alter the weather in Tabantha region to more colder temperatures than usual.
Medoh has frequently created strong gusts of winds with her propellers which can make it hard and dangerous to fly for the Rito at high altitudes.
Vah Medoh would occasionally dive downwards to the point where it is very close to the Rito Village.
Though Vah Medoh does not cause too much trouble like the others, it is when a Rito flies too close to Medoh where it starts to aggressively attack the warrior. Creating a shield around itself and start shooting against the warrior. This what happened to Skall, she got shot down by one of the beams trying to gain control of the Divine Beast (post-calamity).
A big worry for the Rito and Kaneli is that one day Vah Medoh may fly downwards too close to Rito Village and can cause serious damage.
And Finally Vah Naboris
Vah Naboris would roam around at random places of the Gerudo Desert not having a consistent pattern where she goes.
Naboris can create large sandstorms with thunder in it, the Gerudo would alert with a very large flag where Naboris is to alert coming and passing travelers.
These large sandstorms have made it hard for Gerudo to travel, hunt, and locate enemies like the Yiga.
Vah Naboris has slowly inch herself close to Gerudo Town and it's alarming the Gerudo on how close she's been slowly approaching.

Princess Zelda...
Your Majesty......
... There have been many thoughts and takes brewing over the last few hours.
...
However—
Father, I’m sorry, but I cannot accept your—
Mipha—
There are too many things, too many other factors that lie in the balance should you not—
Mipha.
...Father.
... The great dam that our kingdom is graced with, was built with the hands of both Hylian and Zora alike. It was through great effort and cooperation that the lives of hundreds are saved from the merciless flooding of the Rutala and Hylia River. Our people came hand and hand, working quickly, working diligently, knowing not when the next great rains would fall, and whether it would be built in time. All that was known, was that it must be done.
It is with these memories of out predecessors, that I am reminded, that the severity of the unknown is not a detterant, but a call to action. That sometimes, one must cast aside personal feelings, in order to do what is right. That even in a failure to attain what is desired, you strive to do best by your peers. As that of course, is the only true reason why we rise and improve. Whether by chasing off monsters with our blades...or chasing after each other with our hearts.
Princess Zelda of Hyrule, you and your companions have the Zora’s upmost respect, and aid. Save for your orator I’m afraid, I didn’t see him do much, no offense.
None taken.
Ahem.
Princess Mipha. Attend.
...
You will become the pilot of the Divine Beast Vah Ruta.
On one condition...
You must promise...to come back safely.
...
I promise, Father.

Caught I
Just a little series I thought up about Sheikah Wendy and Mipha~ Enjoy! Contains...smooches.
They'd been staring into each others eyes one moment, and the next Wendy found Mipha's soft lips on hers. It wasn't the first time, and it wouldn't be the last, but even so she felt herself melting, eyes closing as she returned the kiss. Her face was warm even now, glad that they were alone on Rutala Dam. Mipha felt much the same, her own cheeks a shade darker than usual. They pulled apart to breathe for a moment, Wendy's eyes tightly shut, so she wouldn't see the way Mipha looked at her and become too flustered to continue. She felt Mipha smiling as their lips came together again. Hylia, it was lovely to do this with her.
Finally, they pulled apart, still in each other's arms, gazing tenderly at each other.
"Well, this is great news!" Came a booming voice that caused Wendy and Mipha both to stiffen, their blushes darkening as they turned to look at the source of the voice. Wendy stood up and turned to face Sidon in a series of quick but graceless movements, already beginning to yell at him.
"What- WHAT THE FUCK- WHAT'RE YOU DOING WATCH- WATCHING US LIKE THAT!" She gesticulated angrily. She pulled her scarf up over her mouth, groaning loudly, mortified at being seen.
"Oh, I wasn't here to watch, though, I admit, I was pleased to see that you two finally acknowledged your feelings! It was about time!" Sidon seemed thrilled, grinning, just his head above the water of the dam.
"Sidon," Mipha squeaked, clearly embarrassed by his interruption. "Why did you come here then?"
Sidon paused for a moment, thinking. "Honestly, I don't remember. It wasn't important. But this! This is important. I've got to let everyone know you two are happily together now!" He was beaming.
"Absolutely not!!!" Wendy dove into the water after him with a splash, but he had already turned to go back to the Domain, and she stood little hope of catching him. Realizing this, she surfaced, sucking in huge gulps of air. Great. Now she was wet and embarrassed.
Mipha reached out a hand to help her out of the water. "O-oh dear, Wendy, I'm- I'm sorry, it looks like the...the secrets out." She kept her gaze down at the ground, too embarrassed to meet Wendy's angry one. Wendy took her hand, pulling herself up to sit on the edge of the dam again.
"It does seem that way, thanks to one loud mouthed Prince." Wendy grumbled, taking off her scarf before beginning to strain her hair to get the water out of it.
"B-but...I mean, it wasn't going to be a secret forever, was it?" Mipha asked, putting a hand on her shoulder. Wendy frozen.
"I...no, it...but I...I wasn't..." Her shoulders sagged. I wasn't ready. But when would she be ready? It had been a few months and she hadn't wanted others to know. Something about it just. This was her love, her feelings, and no one else needed to be involved. But she knew that wasn't normal. Perhaps she had been hurting Mipha by wanting to avoid people knowing.
"I know it's not ideal, but...we can make the best of it."
"Yeah..."
-----------------------
Wendy found she couldn't take the attention that had come with the way that rumors spread like wildife. Everywhere she turned, someone was asking about it, or trying to tease her, or congratulating her-
She couldn't stand it. It was her private business, and what right did anyone have to talk to her about it??? What did it mean to them? What kinds of assumptions were they making already? Were they judging Mipha for falling for yet another non-Zora? She didn't know.
But the real reason she had to leave was just that the attention made her more anxious than she could bare. She needed to sort it out. Alone.
...okay, not alone. Alone never worked. But she couldn't fathom talking to Mipha about it. She'd- she'd go talk to a- a friend, like, Daruk, yeah, Daruk-
"Are you leaving?" Mipha's quiet voice startled Wendy out of her thoughts as she gathered up her things.
Wendy nodded after a long moment. "I am."
"Is it something- can I help-" Mipha began, stumbling over her words.
"No. I mean, it's...I just...you know, I haven't, uh, seen Daruk in a while, I thought maybe I'd...go...see him. And Yunobo! Aha, yeah, miss those guys." The lie fell flat.
"Alright. I understand." Mipha said, but Wendy could see she was a little hurt. "But, please, Wendy, won't you at least tell me the truth?"
Wendy stammered for a moment, before sighing. "Alright. I just...I wasn't..." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "...ready."
Mipha sat down next to her, pulling her into a hug.
"It's too much attention. I...I need to sort it out. So I can come back and...and proudly hold your hand and...not be so embarrassed about it..." She mumbled, feeling like a child. But Mipha seemed to understand the sentiment.
"It's alright, Wendy. Take the time you need. Thank you for telling me the truth." She pressed a kiss to the Sheikah's cheek. "Will you stay, one more night though? For me? We don't have to leave this room."
Wendy nodded quickly. "Yeah. I can do that. Just- just for you. F-for...for a kiss, maybe, if, if you want..."
Mipha giggled a little, before pressing her lips to Wendy's. "You can have as many as you want."

(i never send writing prompts so idk if this is too specific or anything, im sorry!) perhaps something where (trans man)link hasn't visited zora's domain in a while and finds himself chasing a star piece there. he climbs rutala dam to retrieve it just before sunrise and finds sidon in the reservoir?
This one got a bit long
-
Why did these damn things always fall so far away? Why couldn’t they fall right in front of him for once? But no, it had to be over miles away, in some random location that was difficult to reach on foot and even more difficult to track from just looking alone. Didn’t help that the stupid things only fell during the night, too. He was half tempted to ask Purah if there was any way to add a specific tracking function for star pieces to the Sheikah Slate since the regular one didn’t seem to work on those weird hunks of rock. Would definitely make it a whole lot easier to track the stupid things down, rather than just wondering around for hours, trying to figure out where that strange beam of light was coming from exactly.
Huffing and puffing, his sweat-drenched clothes clinging uncomfortably to his overheated skin, Link hauled himself up the mountain’s face, keeping a wary eye on the ominous looking clouds forming overhead. In any other scenario, he wouldn’t mind a little bit of cooling rain but considering he had just spent the past hour making his way up, the last thing he needed was for things to become slippery. Knowing his luck, he’d probably go plummeting towards the bottom and have to start all over again. The thought alone was give him a burst of energy. He had already been putting aside safety for the sake of speed but as those dark clouds rolled in close, safety didn’t have a meaning in his mind. Bolting up the rockface, finding whatever crannies he could to stick his toes and fingers into, Link finally made it to the top just as the first raindrop plopped down heavily on his shoulder. A few seconds later, it was pouring. The sound of thousands of droplets of waters slamming into the smooth rock filled up the otherwise silent night. A sharp wind began to blow, whipping his loose clothing.
Sighing gratefully, Link tilted his head back to let the rain fall onto his hot face. It was going to make it a lot harder to find the star piece but damn, did it feel good. Reaching under his shirt to tug the restrictive layer of thick leather around his chest back into place, hating how disgustingly soggy the stupid thing got whenever it got hot, he pulled his hair out of a ponytail then redid it to get all of the hair out of his face. Giving his head a shake, he set off, keeping the bright beam of light piercing through the grey haze straight in his sights. Sunrise was only a short while away. The cloud cover to the east was tinted with bright spots of pink and red. The world was gradually becoming lighter. If he didn’t hurry, all of his hard work was going to be for nothing. After a few steps, though, something else caught his attention, bringing him to a halt, despite his initial rush. He hadn’t really been paying attention to where he was doing. All of his focus was on the star piece. When he caught a flash of familiar red out of the corner of his eye, his attention immediately shifted. Turning, his eyes widened in surprise. It seemed in his trek, he had managed to not only wind up in the Domain but right next to the Rutala Dam. A heavy mist hung over the water’s surface but there was no mistaking that red.
Sidon. The Zora Prince swum in wide, lazy circles, seemingly more out of the enjoyment of just being in the water, rather than for exercise and sport. Link’s heart jumped a little in excitement at having stumbled across him. It had been a long while since he was last in the Domain, probably somewhere close around two months. Trying to calm the Divine Beast Naboris was taking up a lot of his time. What free time he had left was usually spent trying to hunt down resources or locate shrines, neither of which were the easiest things in the world, leaving him with no time to do the stuff he actually wanted to do. Granted, lately, there was only one thing he really wanted to do. After calming Divine Beast Ruta, he spent probably way more time than he should have in the Domain or, more specifically, with Sidon. They romped all over the mountains, swam in the rivers, explored and just…did normal stuff. It was fun…peaceful to be around him. Ever since he awoke in the Shrine of Resurrection, everything had been so turbulent, so chaotic but with Sidon, he finally felt like he could breathe. Leaving the Domain, leaving him, seeing in those bright, golden eyes just how much Sidon didn’t want him to leave, that had not been fun.
To take his mind off how much he didn’t want to go, he had thrown himself into calming Naboris and now, weeks had passed since he’d last seen him. The loneliness that had been dogging him ever since he set out from the Domain came back in full force, nearly knocking him over onto his butt. Link glanced over at the bright shaft of light piercing up through the heavy rain. Screw it. There would be other star pieces. He wasn’t going to pass up on spending time with Sidon over some stupid rock. Turning his back on the light, he quickly (and carefully) darted down the slope leading into the reservoir. Came close to slipping a couple times but finally made it to the water’s edge. Skidding to a stop, he waved his arms to try to get Sidon’s attention. No good, he was too involved in his swimming to glance over at some random area. Glancing around, Link spied a good size rock lying a few feet away. Picking it up, he reared one arm back and chucked it hard at a spot a few feet away from Sidon. It hit with the water with a loud splash, instantly catching the Zora Prince’s attention.
Coming to a stop mid-cycle, Sidon looked to where the rock had plopped into the water then glanced behind him, in Link’s direction. A huge smile spread simultaneously across this faces when blue met gold.
“Link!” Sidon cried out excitedly, raising one arm in a enthusiastic wave. Darting underneath the water, becoming a red blur beneath the surface, Sidon ejected himself from the water like a missile, performed a rather extravagant flip in mid-air and landed gracefully beside him. Before Link could sign anything, he found himself gathered up in a soggy, firm embrace, crushed to Sidon’s broad chest. A flush of brilliant heat flooded into his face. Eyes widening in surprise, Link hung there limply for a moment, too startled by the sudden, out of nowhere hug, then relaxed into Sidon’s hold. Gods, it felt so good. When was the last time he had been hugged? Must’ve been over a hundred years ago…literally. Pressing his cheek to Sidon’s smooth skin, Link’s eyes fluttered closed. Suddenly, he was reminded of just how exhausted he was - wrapped up in Sidon’s secure hold, enveloped in his scent and warmth, he found himself unable to open his eyes, the seductive lure of sleep stroking its lithe fingers over his mind.
“It is so good to see you.” Sidon murmured, the pleasant rasp of his voice pulling him out of the sleepy haze, “I’ve been worried about you.”
The position they were in wasn’t exactly making it easy to talk to him. As much as he didn’t want to be released from the embrace, they needed to change some things around so they could talk to one another. A little bit of a wiggle was enough to indicate to Sidon that it was time to put him down. With an obvious air of disappointment, the Zora Prince lowered him back to his feet and stepped back a little but didn’t relinquish his hold. Dropping down onto one knee so they were at near enough eye level with one another, his large hands remained on Link, keeping them close enough that when he started to sign, he only had the smallest amount of space to do so.
‘Sorry to have worried you. It is good to see you too!’ Link hesitated for a moment then added with a sheepish smile, ‘I wanted to come back to the Domain but it has been really hard to calm the Gerudo Divine Beast.’
“You haven’t been pushing yourself too hard, have you?” Sidon asked, concern clear in his bright, golden eyes. The rain had subsided to a soft drizzle. Insects began to chirp and buzz as the sky continued to lighten. “I know so much lies on your shoulders but you have allies here. If there is anything I can do to help, all you need to do is ask.”
‘I know,’ Link signed, the tips of his ears tingling with pleasant heat, ‘thank you. Don’t worry, though, I’ve got this!’
“I’m well aware of that, my friend but it is unfair to expect one person to do so much. I wish,” Sidon stopped, his expression becoming conflicted then sighed, shaking his head slightly, “I wish there was more I could do to help.”
Link couldn’t keep the expression surprise of his face. Before he had time to fully react, Sidon gave his head another hard shake, his fin swinging and offered a toothy grin, straightening up, “My apologizes, we haven’t seen each other in a while and the very first thing I do is mope. Come along, my friend! Have you eaten? Slept? I’ll-”
The barrage of words came to a halt when Link reached forward to grab hold of Sidon’s hand. Pausing, the smile fading a little, Sidon looked down at him curiously. There was no hint of the conflict, of the sadness that there had been earlier. Staring up at him, Link studied his face for a moment then stepped forward, gesturing for the Zora Prince to kneel down once again. Cocking his head, Sidon did so, curling his large fingers around Link’s significantly smaller hand. Offering a small smile, as though he knew Link wasn’t just going to let that go, Sidon opened his mouth to say something but he beat him to it.
Regrettably pulling his hand away, Link signed, ‘You do help. You help me more than you know by just being here. There’s nowhere else that is as peaceful, as safe as right here. I don’t have that anywhere else. That is how you help.’ He paused for a moment then smiled, ‘You make me feel safe. That’s a pretty big accomplishment, in my opin-’
Sidon abruptly jolted forward, bringing his face close to Link’s. Their lips bumped together in an awkward, clumsy kiss that lasted less than a second. Face burning, his mouth hanging open stupidly, Link stared up onto the Zora Prince’s face as he yanked back, his golden eyes stretched open wide, a bright tinge of blue dyeing his cheeks. A pleasant fluttering filled up his stomach. His chest felt oddly tight. Even with the rain having cool down the air around him, he was burning hot enough, it was remarkable that the remaining water hadn’t turned instantly to steam. Kiss-! Sidon had just-!
“I’m sorry.” Sidon sputtered, “I’m so sorry, Link. I just-I was only-I..I…”
His lips were tingling. Slowly reaching up, his gaze sliding away from Sidon’s embarrassed expression, Link pressed the pads of his fingers to them. He blinked once, twice, his breath coming slow and steady then looked back up to Sidon. Ah…so that was what it was. In hindsight, it felt obvious. This…he hadn’t felt like this about anyone before. Not even Zelda, who was so near and dear to his heart, hadn’t been able to make him feel this warm, this happy, this…needy.
Raising his hands, he sighed, ‘Again.’
“Huh?”
‘Do it again. Please.’
Sidon somehow managed to flush an even brighter shade of blue. Audibly swallowing, he dipped down, cupping Link’s face in the curve of his large hands. Letting his eyes fluttered close, Link sighed softly when Sidon’s smooth lips pressed once more to his own. Curling his fingers around his wrists, Link pushed back up into him. It became immediately obvious that neither of them knew what they were doing. They clumsily moved against one another, only doing what felt right. He could no longer smell the wet earth and the still falling rain; every breath he pulled in was pull of Sidon’s scent. A unfamiliar taste bled into his mouth, slowly overwhelming his tongue. Salt, something fruity and something a little bit bitter. The taste of Sidon’s mouth - a strange pang of heat reverberated out from the base of his belly at that realization. Warm breath brushed along his skin as Sidon exhaled. This…it was divine, he never wanted to stop kissing him but, all too soon, the Zora Prince pulled away.
“I’m assuming,” Sidon said slowly, gazing down at him with heat-hazy golden eyes, “that this means you’re not upset that I kissed you?”
Link slowly shook his head, feeling a little dizzy, ‘Again.’
Sidon laughed softly, placing a small kiss on the tip of his nose, “Come back to the Domain with me and get some food, some sleep and I’ll kiss you all you want.”
Snorting, Link quirked a brow, ‘Like I’d say no? I wanna go but one more to hold me over until we get there.’
Laughing once more, Sidon did as he asked, dipping down for a quick, sweet kiss before gathering him up into his arms. Snuggling close, feeling lighter and stronger than he had since he left the Domain, Link rested his cheek on Sidon’s shoulder. Watching the scenery pass as they made their way back down into the Domain, Link realized there was a little bit of an issue with how things had turned out. Naboris was still waiting to be infiltrated and freed from the Calamity’s grasp but he wasn’t so sure he would be able to extract himself from the Domain anytime soon. Sighing softly, Link curled his arms around Sidon’s shoulders.
Oh well, he would figure out some sort of solution. He always did.

Since my brain decided that I needed an OC to ship with his handsome fish bastard, I've decided why the hell not and have some details.
Female hylian named Shay that was raised by gerudo when a traveling gerudo found her as a baby. She was raised in Gerudo Town where she was a local oddity and delight. Everyone there knows her.
She trained with the royal guard. She's smaller and faster than most gerudo and fierce with a spear. She's also a master of using her opponent's strength and weight against them.
She started to roam around the desert fighting monsters and seeing the sights at18. At age 25 she left the desert for the first time. Her mother encouraged her travel because she wanted her daughter to see what else was in the world (plus she wanted some grandbabies already and Shay probably wasn't going to find a suitable voe in the desert). Shay was curious about what was beyond the desert as well. Growing up in the desert she didn't see many hylians so she was curious about them.
She roamed around for 5 years. As a traveling warrior she saved many lives but because the blood moon always brought the monsters back, she always felt like she was just running in place. She spent most of her time around other hylians, but also traveled through goron and rito lands frequently. She never explored the zora domain, however.
When she did decide to hunt monsters around the zora lands, she ended up being captured. Instead of killing her, the monsters took her to the resevoir and threw her off the Rutala Dam. She somehow managed to miss the rocks and land in the water, however she still nearly died. She suffered head trauma, broken ribs, bruising, scrapes and other lacerations and nearly drowned. Eventually she was swept down the river to where the Rutala river and the Zora River's  currents meet and she was washed ashore where she was found by Sidon.
Knowing me, this might turn into an actual fic. I already have some stuff written out for it. Dunno if it'll ever get to a point where I post chapters, but you never know.

⚜ headcanon.
Link, when he became Margrave, inherited his father’s ancestral lands of what is now known as the Lanryu Wetlands. Previously, the Lanryu Wetlands were known as the Rolling Lanryu Hills. The Zora River and Rutala River flowed past Bone Pond and up to join Hylia River. Had Link actually married Mipha, these lands would have passed to his second born child, male or female, once they became of age. However, they never had the chance.
Divine Beast Ruta destroyed much of the Rolling Hills, drowning many of the inhabitants before the Rutala Dam cut off the flow, creating the Lanryu Wetlands.

I have an ask! What role do the Divine Beasts play in your AU, if any?
I sorta answered this question in this ask but I do wanna add and change a few things.
The Divine Beasts are still a big threat just like I mentioned there in the ask. The new champions (and Mipha) are the ones who need to gain back the Divine Beasts through a trial that was given by the Sheikah monks.
The Divine Beasts are highly active and tend to cause harm, not specifically to the people, but to the environment that they roam around. Vah Ruta causes massive flooding and is at the brink point of breaking the Rutala Dam. Vah Rudania causes the earth to shake with the close possibility of activating a centuries old dormant volcano. Vah Medoh strong winds causes for the weather to alter and become more colder than before. Vah Naboris causes strong sandstorms that slowly inch closer and closer to Gerudo Town.
Aside from being a threat and the champions gain back control of the Divine Beasts, they have the same role as in botw on aiming their giant laser beam towards hyrule castle.

🏖 and ⭐for Mipha? (symphonyselfships)
@symphonyselfships thanks friend! <3
⛱ - beach date at night/day
I wonder if Zora, are like...like, she’s clearly a freshwater Zora, would seawater bother her? I’m gonna go ahead and posture that if she tried to LIVE in the seawater it’d be an issue but for a fun date at the beach it’d be good :)
It’s very well known Sheikah Wendy and Mipha like to take day or multi-day trips out of the Domain. Of course, not usually to the beach. But Mipha suggested it, and I can’t say no to her, so...
It takes a good chunk of time to get to a nice beach, so it’s a multi day trip! Once we get there I complain about the sand a bunch and also complain about being in a swim suit probably FWKHJ (”I feel so vulnerable, Mipha!” “Don’t worry, we cleared out all the beasts already.” “STILL!”). We go out at night after spending the day clearing the area so it’s safe (and probably helping out at whatever town happens to be nearby).
The moon is bright and full and Mipha is so happy to be in the water with me. She teases and splashes and maybe even pulls me around a bit, since my swimming skills aren’t close to as strong as hers. They’re probably moderate for a Sheikah/Hylian.
We totally end up making out too safdjfds there’s a lot of staring into each others’ eyes shyly and appreciating the form of the other in the moonlight and the water. Hngh. It’s very soft okay.
And then there’s a fire on the beach and we cook fish we caught together, and have some special treats we brought along (do marshmellows exist? maybe) and just kind of. Talk and sit together.
⭐️ - star gazing date
Secret date before we went public in the Domain fhdasjhsd,,, can you imagine star gazing from the top of Rutala Dam? Maybe even from the Divine Beast itself. Yeah, that.
While I would never ask directly, I always wanted to go inside the Divine Beasts and see what they were like. Mipha picks up on this, and invites me in. As we’re watching the sky, there’s shooting stars streaking across the sky.
We hold hands, awkwardly, shyly, and sit on top, and watch the stars. And then we probably share a chaste kiss or two, before she scoots a little closer and leans her head on me...I become...tomato Wendy...but I wrap my arm around her. And we’re just there. Until we both start to fall asleep and realize we need to go home, hehe.
/>w<\ I’m soft now
