The best laid schemes go oft astray. Poor Weiss, bet she’d been practicing lines in her head all day. And speaking of, Jaune certainly wasn’t too quick to recruit everyone else for his little trip, once he saw Weiss was onboard. Wouldn’t be surprised if he went through a line or two on the way over as well.
Even if they are now somewhat overshadowed by the immaculate story we’ve been blessed with in Volume 9, pre-Volume 9 White Knight moments are still very good. They’ll always have a place in my heart.
Some of you may have noticed me sneak in a not-so-subtle little Parks and Recreation Reference there. Love that show, and I quite like the idea of Weiss taking on a bit of a Leslie Knope edge while she tries to rebuild Atlas and Mantle, which makes Ruby Ann Perkins.
Hope you all enjoy this little comic I threw together yesterday!
I had a lot of trouble with this prompt, specifically related to posing these two lovebirds, but I found a cute pose assortment after scrolling Pinterest for an hour, so we’re all good now lol
Also, hey! Wow! Look at that background! So impressive, right?? Definitely worth the 4 hours it took, riiiiight?? Jk lol. I actually found a nice shortcut with the pen shape options, so drawing Mantle’s skyline was easier than normal. (Still not fun, and very time consuming, but I’ll take easier)
Okay, so here’s something VERY interesting about Ruby’s ‘Your mother said those words to me.’ breakdown in Volume 7 that I cannot believe took me until NOW to notice.
You know how Ruby’s Silver Eyes activate during this moment where she is very likely having some kind of flashback to some heavily repressed traumatic memories?
Well, let’s remember something we learned from Maria in the previous volume: The Silver Eyes will ONLY activate in the presence of Grimm. Now, we know that in the Battle for Haven, Ruby’s Silver Eye activation was in response to Cinder’s then-concealed grimm-arm.
But here? There are no Grimm in Ironwood’s office for Ruby’s Silver Eyes to react to!
Now, you could make the argument that Salem’s ghost-projection had enough grimm-material to trigger Ruby’s eyes. However, if that were the case then WHY is Salem’s projection clearly unaffected by the flash of Ruby’s eyes? Instead dissipating on its own some moments later.
No, I am almost certain that the silver eyes activation in this scene was entirely on Ruby and whatever she’s been repressing about her mom.
In other words, Ruby used her Silver Eyes all on her own, WITHOUT needing Grimm nearby. All thanks to something related to SUMMER.
(shoutout to @cosmokyrin for tipping me off to this detail :D Thanks!)
i do find it interesting that ruby stepping back from crescent rose was INCREDIBLY concerning for everybody, but as soon as the town floods and Jaune screams out every single member of WBY goes to comfort him. because his pain is louder than ruby’s. like they literally immediately disregarded ruby’s incoming breakdown and concerning behaviour. They try to make jaune feel better by pretty much asking ruby to say something inspirational or optimistic. but she can’t because she literally just had a panic attack mid battle and refuses to use her very cherished weapon
im not saying this to hate on WBY because I know they’re going through it as well, I just thought this was interesting writing
