They're very much a hot and cold couple. Pun fully intended. Either they're able to relax and go on normal-person dates, or they have to spar in the backyard to blow off steam.

Merc is a very talented mechanic and Yang knows quite a bit of engineered thanks to learning her arm's upkeep. I thought about it last night.

I think if given the chance, Mercury and Yang could make a cute couple. In a time line where the Fall of Beacon didn't happen and wasn't going to happen, with Cinder and Company only there as spies and covertly looking for the relic, I think it could have worked. After they both tie, they buy lunch for each other, loading so much food on the tray they both end up sick and broke. Cinder tells him that he's supposed to keep close to her for intel, but the more time he spends with her, the softer and less angry he gets, until he's angry at the fact that he's not angry.

In bed, I think they'd work well too. I can see Mercury getting really rough with his partners, and Yang probably likes getting treated roughly. I can even see them switching it up a bit.

Bottom line, I think this can work pretty well.
