Near Uniquely RWBY - Main Characters
I was chatting with my sibling the other day and we were joking about the fact in 90% of the media I consume I generally don't like the main characters.
Not in the sense I necessarily hate them, but I generally don't find them to be the most interesting, engaging or enjoyable person on screen or page. Instead I tend to gravitate towards secondary or minor characters and even minor antagonists before any of the big names.
Some of this is rooted in my often rooting for what tends to feel more like a real underdog or characters that feel like they got dealt a bad hand by the author unfairly. But its also that in a lot of media the main characters tend to immediately, slowly or quickly go into personality lockdown.
Becoming less a personality and more the embodiment of expected tropes and themes, or they lose their unique edge or circumstances because the plot demands one benefits or personality changes be heaped on them to keep the tone and story going.
Some examples of this would include say:
Ichigo from Bleach, with him and his supporting cast being very unique and super interesting during the initial arc. But as Soul Society came in, he became a much more standard Shounen determinator a the expense of his personality and his supporting casts were largely watered down & left behind.
Or how in Naruto or Dragon Ball the whole underdog/hard worker aspect of the characters felt undercut by legacy power ups and an endless wellspring of natural talent, alien biology, ETC.
I know these are just two examples, but they cover the general gist of what I mean.
So, what makes RWBY different?
Well, off the cuff, is simply that the four main characters are women.
Tumblr media
I've often felt simply putting anyone other than a cis-het guy into the main character slot of say, a battle Shounen, or Isekai stands a good chance of making it more interesting by default. Even if the author does nothing with it the audience reaction would be different because the MC would be an exception to the norms.
In that vein, while one can call RWBY some sort of Shounen or adventure fantasy or magical girl show the main four are unique in how they manifest on screen at the very start. From how they participate in action, to how said action is structured and framed and the kind of adventures and topics they tackle.
But being unique alone is not enough, that would simply make it more interesting than the bog standard but what elevates RWBY is the execution and exploration of such elements and its characters.
Going into every aspect would be difficult, but in light of what I said above would be how each of the main four are initially presented as familiar archetypes, only to subvert or deconstruct them.
Tumblr media
Ruby is a peppy goth who just wants to be normal but has inborn powers from her mysteriously vanished mother and serves as a beacon of optimism to others.
Except Ruby's version of normal still involved fighting death monsters with a sniper rifle scythe and she is actually one of the more ruthless characters. Her peppy persona obscures that she can have a pretty vicious temper when pushed and has displayed strong bloodknight tendencies.
Her unrelenting optimism and desire to fix the world is a complex mix of true beliefs, coping mechanism for trauma and her grappling with positions forced on her against her will. Her inborn power is potentially useful but also not that much of a game breaker outside specific contexts & said power sure as hell didn't save her mom.
Tumblr media
Weiss Schnee is the Tsundere heiress of a powerful family, with a haughty attitude that hides her loneliness.
Except the "Tsundere" is more of a defense mechanism born of coming from an abusive home where every member of her family manifested a different trauma response. Freeze (Mother), flight (Sister), Fight (Weiss) Fawn (Brother).
Despite her upbringing & some projected trauma, she's far from ignorant as to the worst excesses of her nation early on, and her journey was more about overcoming the impacts her abuser had on her and finding a family in her team that let her be safe enough to let down her walls. Also despite being "The ice queen" she's actually one of the characters least inclined towards more ruthless actions and is extremely empathic.
Tumblr media
Blake Belladonna is a mysterious and silent rougish woman, something of a shrinking violet even, but she carries with her a wounded heart thanks to her old flame, the edgy Adam Taurus.
Or more accurately, Blake is the daughter of activists and politicians who represent the worlds main discriminated against minority. She spent her youth on the road as a protestor and where even her father could be nearly killed by a lynch mob. She was targeted & groomed by a man who claimed to want to fight the same injustice she did but who was only interested in using the movement to grow his own power.
Her initial aloof-ness was a trauma response to having spent years under his thumb and overcoming him and the idea she had to 'save' him was one of the main corner stone so her character. Also, despite the "Revolutionary fighter" backstory she like Weiss is much less inclined towards ruthlessness than her team in large part because her past experience with it.
Tumblr media
Yang Xiao Long, introduced as the fun loving big sister of Ruby & boisterous bruiser of the team who loves to party & flirt.
Except no, Yang was parentified as a child and forced to raise her own sister as their family unit fell apart. Her "Party girl" persona was outright framed as judging a book by its cover in her own trailer and something she put on or took off as she needed.
She became disabled over the course of the series run as well as entered a Sapphic romance with her partner Blake. Unlike the stereotype of characters with her design, Yang is actually an excellent student, fighter and engineer/mechanic. Plus much like her sister she tends to be of the more ruthless and pragmatic persuasion despite being from the "Normal" background.
Character Conclusion
So, all the characters break out of their initial archetypes, which already makes them more interesting. What's more, these sorts of characters just being oput together and made the main characters rather than circling a dude is in of itself unique.
But there are other aspects of the writing which endear me to how it handles the main characters and what keeps them interesting.
Tumblr media
Anger & Violence
See, while in various media women do express anger at times it is still often far less so than men. What's more, often women's anger tends to be presented in... Less flattering lights.
With the anger obscuring fragility while in a man it conveys strength. Or implying a sort of hysteria rather than an appropriate or controlled response. Or worst of all being demonized in general unless its rooted in or coming from traditionally feminine places.
The same tends to be true when it comes to violence with a lot of media either trying to find some way to make women in battle less... Brutal than their male counterparts. (More more like fanservice) Along with rarely letting women fight men, unless they are a special exception to the norm.
RWBY does not do this.
The main characters, hell, all the women in the series express a multitude of different forms of anger and violence. They battle men, they battle each other, they battle monsters all with no distinction nor fanservice shot in sight.
What's more though is that said anger and violence are not presented as, for lack of better words, wrong. The writers don't draw overt attention to this fact, they don't hang a big sign up saying "Girls can fight & shout too" or the like.
They just present these women with a range of emotions, motives and actions that are treated according to what fits the theme of the show rather than hewing closer to gendered lines.
This isn't to say anger & violence are lionized, but more that the experience and usage of them is not demonized or undermined because of the characters gender.
I suppose what I am saying is that CRWBY by and large lack double standards when it comes to exploring these things that I see so often in other media. The women in the main cast, among the villains, both sides respective allies and beyond can be flawed, or angry or do both good and terrible things.
But the writers are always treating everyone's pain as equally valid regardless of gender or situation. Which means that the situations that cause anger exist within a tone of respect that forms the depiction and framing of anger itself.
Which is just something I really enjoy.
Thanks for reading!

Trans rights are human rights.
March 31 marked Trans Day of Visibility, and we saw an outpouring of support, awareness, and uplifting of the trans community. The Welcome Home ARG is taking Tumblr by storm, and it seems like everyone is in agreement that Wally Darling is just a silly little guy. The new season of Succession is bringing folks’ favorite dysfunctional family back to the small screen. April Fools’ Day came and went, with standouts being @brickwhartley’s reactions, @sonicthehedgehog’s new game, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, and, of course, the tenth anniversary of the Mishapocalypse. We got our first look at The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s gameplay, and, well, it’s gonna be chaotic. Oh, and Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury for over 30 counts related to business fraud. This is Tumblr’s Week in Review.

You know, surprisingly Sweet Home 2 has given me a better appreciation for what some fans might see in late seasons of RWBY. The last 8 episodes were a hot dumpster fire of a story—and I'm arguing that from an objective "You fucked with basic writing conventions in a non-productive way and also a huge chunk of audience expectations, also in a non-enjoyable way" perspective, not just "That wasn't to my taste." Season 2 is a mess, friends.
HOWEVER I was also able to recognize where specific, highly personal preferences were carrying the show for me:
Uh oh, a Main Character died! Oh well. I wasn't super invested in them so it's fine
Now a million minor characters have suddenly been introduced instead? Isn't it lucky for me that I find them intriguing. Better yet, this one guy literally no one else cares about has inexplicably become a fave. His mere existence on screen increases my enjoyment by 70%!
Wow the last twenty minutes of this episode was boring af but look! My ship! That's the only thing that will stick with me an hour from now
Huh, I have no idea what's going on. Like, straight up huge chunks of this make no sense to me. Eh, whatever. I'm binging this on a Saturday night with the express purpose of turning my brain off. Comprehension can come back tomorrow. The hot, morally dubious soldier just made a crazy shot with his rifle to blow up a ton of monsters. Cool!
It really was an interesting experience to watch a show (notably one I already liked from Season One) and spend it going, "That was so bad... and also I need to watch the next episode immediately." Sweet Home 2 was so much fun to binge and I'll be thinking about it for the next couple of weeks at the very least. I also absolutely would not recommend it to others due to [checks notes] way too many reasons to list here. I can't say it's "So bad it's good" because it doesn't have that vibe, rather, it really was just a few pinpoint, personal interests and the willingness to prioritize them over literally everything else in the story that made it "good" for me.
Which put into sharp relief how others might watch another show with absolutely no cohesion, the death/disappearance of Very Important characters, boring as hell stretches, and a fundamental misunderstanding of what fans liked about the original and come away going, "It was great!" Because there was that one (1) cool scene. Because your ship has A Moment. Because while some people might care about answering the myriad of questions introduced, or understanding what's happening in any given scene, you just care that your fave existed for twenty seconds doing a GIF-able action.
Only difference is I'm going, "Yeah it sucked and I enjoyed it" rather trying to uplift those small, super subjective preferences as proof of the story's secret genius.

It's the last day of Nitpick November and I wanna talk about the 'canon compliant' additional content for RWBY.
First of all, it's incredibly annoying to hear that it's 'canon compliant' that Team RWBY worked with fucking Batman in another dimension and that's never once come up somehow in the main series, and it's impossible to hear 'Amity Arena is a game that exists in Remnant-' Like WHAT?!
But on top of that, I think media in general but RWBY especially would benefit from non-canon alternate universe content that experiments with fun concepts without having to worry about canon.
"This series of short animated episodes focuses on every day events and conflicts in a world where the war never happens." That would be great.
"In this manga, we see what would happen if the teams we all know and love never got together. Yang is partnered with Pyrrha, Ruby got saddled with Cardin, Jaune is partners with Blake, Nora is partners with Weiss, Ren is partners with a new character introduced for it that seemingly existed in the backgrounds as one of the shadow people." Awesome, sign me up.
"This special released web cartoon is a coffee shop AU where Ruby and Yang are both working at Ozpin's Coffeehouse in Vale and they keep meeting people from the show and it's all comedy driven and fun and cute and quirky." Sounds like a dream.
"Roleswap AU where the main hero characters are Emerald and Mercury and Ruby and her team are evil followers of Salem who need to get redeemed." YES PLEASE.
"Comic where Team RWBY actually suggested the 'use the staff to create bridges to get to Vacuo' plan when they first realized Salem was on her way, but because Cinder still showed up to try to wreck everything, tons more people fell into the Ever After and now we're going to follow the wacky shenanigans of Ruby attempting to get together all the Atlas people including still good!Ironwood, Whitley, the Happy Huntresses, the Ace Ops, Team FNKI, etcetera and get them all back home." I would definitely read that.
Instead they're like "Do you want to see Team RWBY go on some missions in Atlas set during a montage in season seven while they fight a union leader?" "How would you feel about watching VTuber RWBY talk about making microaggressions against Velvet?" "This arc set in-between V1 and V2 is about Weiss being anti-faunus in a dream where she has to be rescued and it will never come up in the main show.'
Talk about missed opportunities. I may not like additional fan content very much, but I'd like it a whole lot better if it was experimental fun concepts and less 'no see, this actually could've happened off screen.' Enough of Ruby already happened off screen, I don't need to add Batman into that list, thank you.

is2g some rwby fans just see a take & boil it down to the most basic, inaccurate trope so they can go "see! y'all are wrong!"
we aren't saying blake didn't have struggles. we see on screen how she's marginalzied when she comes to beacon because weiss immediately targets her once she knows that blake was part of the white fang & a lot of us criticize the narrative in the series proper that allowed weiss's behaviour to slide without even a basic apology.
however saying blake isn't priviledged because she didn't "get the big house until she was a teenager" is crazy inaccurate. we see in the dc comics, which people love to use to say bees moments are canon & adam is a canonical pedophile despite his age never being stated & ilia looking the same age — blake was in that house from a child. there's pictures of her as a child in that house with her immensely privileged people & this existing at the same time that blake says that there's an overcrowding issue in menagerie is an issue. the belladonnas should not be living in a comparable mansion while their citizens are in huts.
the belladonnas did not "work" for this house. it wasn't given to them for being leaders of the white fang, otherwise they would've left when sienna overtook the organization to actually do something other than bootlick humans & beg for peace. there are also pictures of presumably other belladonna relatives in this home, alluding that it's more than likely something passed down through the family.
where was the work? ghira is useless & kali even more so, functionally existing as a milf joke while being a nothing housewife.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
& as for the latter point of blake not being privileged because she's also part of the marginalized group — this ignores that blake is living on menagerie for a majority of her upbringing, a place that is functionally an ethnostate. there is no racism to be experienced on this island because there's no human influence & even when blake comes out of menagerie, she is actively hiding her faunus traits to avoid racial discrimination.
compare this to characters who can't do that: like sun (who experiences police brutality the first time he's on screen), velvet (who suffers physical assault & racial violence), ilia (suffered violent discrimination in an actually oppressive society towards faunus & her parents died due to faunus exploitation), adam (a former goddamn child slave) & so many others.
the only time blake has had to "fight for her rights" as a young child was when her parents took her from the functional safety of menagerie to put her in potentially violent protests. blake isn't affected by the racism of the world until her deadbeat ass parents choose to show her it & that's something that they should be criticized for.
rwby fans learn that people are not saying blake isn't marginalized: she absolutely is. but she also exists in the show as functionally far more privileged than her other faunus counterparts, to the extent that she can preach for peace & blame them for setting her own mansion on fire while they're just trying to survive in their huts.
if blake being the faunus equivalent of weiss makes you uncomfortable, good! that's a starting point into deconstructing the rest of this mess of a racism plotline instead of y'all just telling poc & bme folks that we're dumb.

Things aren’t looking so good for ya jaune
Merry LATE Christmas
Welcome to the official Dearest Sibling RWBY AU page! Here is some doodles I had made for this page and for Christmas!
This AU is a what if - Pyrrha and Roman were actually siblings.
We will have two different stories
Dearest Brother- FANON(Roman ran away from home when Pyrrha was 3 ) follows a non canon way of things as we change backstories for characters and add In characters and change they fate of our for them as well.
Dearest Sister- CANON (Roman was abandoned as kid way before Pyrrha was born) keeps the same background for characters, like Roman being abandoned when he was young. We keep the deaths but we add more and follow the Canon more closely.
We will be changing certain canon events to better push the stories we wanna make. We are being very hush about the plot because the actual story will be wrote on another website, the link will be posted soon.
This page will be for chapter updates, questions, and art, even fanart! We will happily take criticism, just be aware we are doing this for fun and are people behind the screen too! Thank you!

"Blake Belladonna should have been an orphan". No, I didn't stutter
Tumblr media
Rant incoming. If you feel the onset of symptoms like malding and seething, just click away and you'll make an immediate recovery.
You cannot tell me that Blake's parents weren't randomly created on the fly post-Volume 3.
By all evidence given onscreen, YES, technically Blake never mentions whether she had parents or not.
But she also doesn't say that she has an evil twin named Bleu Bougainvillea living on the broken moon. Doesn't mean it suddenly justifies her having one. There's equal importance in reading what Blake doesn't say.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
RWBY and Team RWBY in particular are very focused on family, especially in Volume 2. Weiss mentions her father and family name. Yang talks about Raven and Summer, by extension including Ruby. Blake talks about Adam, i.e. the White Fang. Not her parents. Almost like we're supposed to think that Blake believed the White Fang was her family.
Tumblr media
It's even weirder that Ghira and Kali actually love and support Blake, and she had no bad blood with them. For someone on good terms with her parents (just she wasn't willing to confront them), she really doesn't like, mention them at all. Not even longingly or wistfully, like a prodigal daughter wanting to return home.
But she has sketches of Adam in her notebook. Almost like maybe Adam was one of the few people on Remnant she was close to. But the world is never ready for the Adam conversation.
Honestly it's made all the more worse because Kali and Ghira are so well-liked in the fandom, because "Well, now we can't get rid of them. Look at how lovable and pleasant they are! And it's good that someone on Team RWBY has a happy home upbringing."
The latter is true - in a vacuum, but Blake is not the person to be having a happy home life, if she even has a home at all.
I'm not saying this to be mean (as if the catgirl pixels on my screen can take offense to me saying she shouldn't have her nonexistent parents), but Blake is very clearly portrayed to represent the dregs of Remnant's society - she's a Faunus, a non-citizen of the Kingdoms and likely displaced from any home she would have once known to join the White Fang. She is an underdog.
There's adding layers and nuance to a character, and there's adding just plain contradictory elements to them. I don't write "Blake is an outcast of Remnant's society, forced into an extremist group just to survive and feel heard" and then write "But also she was actually born onto the lap of privilege and led such a hard life not out of necessity but out of impulse". It's totally backwards.
Not to mention that she quite explicitly says "If you can't fight, you can't survive"... for an organization she joined and did crimes for of her own accord, when her cushy mansion, comfy bed with pre-fluffed pillows and her parents who run the place is a 20-minute walk away.
It reeks. It smells of "While you were painting your nails and drinking coconut water in your fantasy Australia/Malaysia/Polynesia frankenstein island, I studied the blade" energy when Blake says this and she isn't in any way someone who's had to suffer. Who's had no choice but to fight.
"But she's a Faunus! She's still marginalised in Remnant!" Wow, then good thing she was born and raised on the island where she's only surrounded by Faunus and probably never faced a single discriminatory act by any humans whatsoever, because the closest human around is probably 500 miles away across the ding-dang ocean.
Plus, the "we need someone in Team RWBY with normal parents" argument doesn't hold water as well, because had CRWBY committed to their writing and kept Blake an orphan or some no-name runaway, the same people would be praising Blake either way. "I'm so glad someone on Team RWBY doesn't have living parents, because 'found family' is just as important to show for Blake's arc - first for the White Fang, and now for Team RWBY". See how the reaction changes to match?
To say nothing of the fact it completely screws over the whole identity thing? Not only are you a former White Fang agent in our school, you're also the daughter of the former leader? No amount of "How many politicians' or civil rights leaders' daughters' names do you know" is going to sweep this under the rug - one shouldn't be bending over backwards this much to justify this.
The truth of the matter is the fandom would have eaten up whatever narrative CRWBY spun for Blake, and gone to any necessary lengths to justify it in hindsight as "what the show needed". It's the whole "planned from the beginning" nonsense this fandom falls victim to far too often, which is frankly embarrassing.
Had CRWBY never shown that Blake had living parents, we would have happily eaten it up, but at least they wouldn't have to change what they already said about Blake to do it. It's like saying Weiss is "the loneliest of all" and then later reveal she actually lived under the same roof with eight siblings, four uncles, five aunts, a godmother and three dogs.
"Oh, but that would have been even more effective! It would have been, like, *✧'You feel the loneliest when in a crowd' *✧, it's so deep."
Okay? And?? You've told me nothing besides "I actually would have been happy to bullshit any reason to enjoy these writers' poor-piss decisions, so might as well give me the worst version of what I would have been happy with anyway".
Please, I implore you to put aside your love for the "nice big loveable bear dad" trope and the Kali NSFW art and actually think about what this character's actually about.
This shit is not hard. Like it's hard to write and execute, sure - writing of any kind is a challenge, but you know what's not hard? Keeping the parents dead like you implied they were. Letting found family be Blake's arc.
Letting her look at the White Fang and at Team RWBY, and knowing she has to choose between two families she loves, instead of her running away to the convenient third family she had lying around as her golden parachute in case either one turns to violence or has their school blown up, basically wrapping her in a nice warm blanket so she doesn't have to grapple with any tough moral and emotional choices.
Blake was my favourite character in RWBY until this shit came around; I loved that her hardened nature and upbringing was tempered by a pure conviction and willingness to heal, even when everything she knows and grew with is broken beyond repair. Her conflict felt real and visceral.
Ruby's the daughter of a big Huntress and has silver eyes. Weiss is the daughter of one of the most prestigious families in the world who owns half the world's economy. Yang's the daughter of a bandit queen who's also a Maiden. Blake should have been the nobody. Someone with no greatness to her name, other than the greatness she sees in her new team, and the greatness she can strive towards with her own two hands.
She could have shown that you can come from the absolute bottom of society, hated and overlooked by everyone, and still be a hero, especially in a show where most of its villains (Cinder, Emerald, Adam, Roman, Neo, Mercury) are also outcasts, felons or nobodies in their own communities. Great message, CRWBY. Of course the company robbing their staff of their livelihoods and ousting them when they're no longer useful would demonise the poor people and rebels.
But oh look, now she's the daughter of the former leader of the entire freedom fighter movement and the chief of an entire fucking island nation. Isn't that so much cooler? Don't you look up to Blake so much more now?
Fucking. Yawn.

i am like nothing short of disgusted with the fact that oscar, a child thrown into the war he had nothing to do with, was the mcs' punching bag for their unstable sad asses and them not acknowledging what it's like for him, because if they did, they'd think twice before physically and verbally abusing him. And him not having hard feelings about it. Like boy have some self-respect. If I were in Oscar's place when Jaune pinned him against the wall and started yelling at him, I'd immediately punched him as hard as possible and then said something like: "Let me make one thing clear for all of you if you and I are to work together; I am not him, I am still here. The next time you forget that fact, I leave. For good." Because fucking hell, this is the SECOND time these asshole forget that he exists as a separate fucking person
The whole drama with Oscar during V6 highlights a major issue with RWBY: The writers would copy tropes, moments, and ideas from other media but they did not understand the reason why these ideas worked in those media. They disregard the context and the consequences of these kinds of tropes and just use drama to create a false sense of stake that never gets resolved.
Oscar never got an apology from adult men assaulting him, hell, the episode right after Jaune pinned him against the wall was dedicated to JAUNE. Fuck the fact that this child had to be involved in something bigger than he ever expected and god knows how far he is right now from home, the kid can just fuck off and get character development somewhere else off-screen before ANOTHER grown man assault him.
The tension was set up in a way that we can see how Oscar is feeling about everything along with the protagonists, but you're right anon. Oscar is a punching bag, not a character. Because RWBY is a show that likes to copy only the appearance of other media's work, but never the heart.

Why Would the Rusted Knight Stay and Wait So Long?
This has been bugging me since Saturday.
He was rusted by the time Alyx meets him. Why didn't he lose hope of meeting team RWBY after so many years and give up?
He has had his time on therapy island. Time to reflect. Time to grow. Time to miss his team. He named Juniper after them. Tied his hair like Rens using Pyrrha's sash. He has parents and 7 sisters with family. He would want to go back home.
So why stay?
Because he met Alyx before them:
Tumblr media
There are fresh footprints leading to the forest. Alyx gets up and walks. Crescent rose washes up right where she was immediately.
Let's say she saw it wash up.
Why doesn't she grab it?
It could be lost, no one is around. Except for the footprints. So, she follows them. Yet doesn't really seem to take notice of them along with C.R.
I've been wondering what happened to all the other people who fell when Cinder bombed them.
If she fell with a bunch of people after an explosion via Cinder. She knows about Huntsmen and she knows others fell with her. The only logical thing to do is to follow the footprints. The weapon could belong to someone who fell, they can find it. If she runs into them, she could point them to the direction of C.R.
If time is fucked up, then she landed in the original story, because she is it.
She meets Jaune who lands 10-15 years earlier than her and the footsteps, Alyx, C.R is meant to represent who lands up when in the Ever.
She could recognize him from the evacuation broadcast. (We know his face is exposed because he's described as handsome in the books.) Sparking a connection of safety towards him. Maybe his fighting skills seemed rusty to her, and his broken sword made her think he's retired.
The only thing is that she does figure out how to get out on her own. She may have been the only survivor who's not main cast to have gotten out of the Ever. Jaune didn't go back with her because he was waiting for team Ruby to land.
Since Alyx was a part of the evacuation and she fell before anybody else, and is just now landing into the Ever After, than time must be going cattywampus. Team RWBY might not have even landed yet. So, he stays behind, duty bound to protect and help the girls out of the Ever After. Just like he did for Alyx, perhaps others, for once being able to save the girls instead of sacrificing them.
This is Where the Theory Starts to Go Tinfoil Mode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This cat toys with both the protagonist and the audience. They know more than they let on and purposefully omit details and makes vague statements about things. The Ciel bit got my attention.
Now this could be a nod that everyone thought the girl washed up on the beach was Ciel for the similar color scheme/outfit. The difference being their eyes, Alyx gold and Ciel blue. Along with their hair, Alyx long curly, brown hair and Ciel with short, straight asymmetrical blue hair.
Ciel has time illusions. Her 5 minutes of screen time show her staring at a clock, being the timekeeper, much like the white rabbit. Oh, who has a rabbit theme besides Jaune? Alyx.
Here's a theory I made earlier about the connections between Jaune and Alyx that will go into play/make this whole theory make more sense.
This one about Jaune and his role in Ever After
So, we have a girl who already exist in canon that, we the audience, know about along with the protagonists. Who's from Atlas, where people who fell came from if not Mantle. Who has a connection to Penny, someone who's death is weighing heavily on our M.C. An extremely similar color scheme and dress style of Alyx. Almost like that's what the Ciel we saw in the Vytal Festival would wear two years later. Oh, her eyes/appearance change? Wow what a unique and never seen/heard of before on this show.
If Jaune knew Ciel and not Alyx and helped her out of Ever After, he'd be reassured that she'd make it out and tell his team what happened. Except, when she left, she went back in time in Remnant.

Jaune Arc is not going to Die.
Or Stay in the Ever After.
As the title state, I don't think Jaune's story ends here. Maybe it's because I (rather obviously) Like him, But I have prepared some reasons for Jaune sticking around for longer, Starting with ...
1. The Red Flags
Adam Taurus, a minor antagonist, and representative of both the Enchanted Rose, and Gaston from Beauty and The Beast, Died. The Rose Wilted, Gaston Died.
Pyrrha Nikos, Based on Achilles of Greek Myth, Died. Pyrrha was a Hero. Achilles Died.
Roman Torchwick , a Minor antagonist, was based at least partially on Romeo Candlewick From Pinocchio, And Died. Candlewick also canonically dies at some point in most Pinocchio iterations.
James Ironwood, whose song is literally titled Hero, Died.
Given the Samples provided, and many more not provided, We can extrapolate that those that are either Minor Characters, Deuteragonists, Heroes, "Heroes," or those based on a character that dies, tend to Die.
There's also this thing called a "Noble Sacrifice." Usually it's reserved for when a Character is seeking redemption for something (Such as Killing a Friend), and, in an act of repentance, Gives their life for their Friend(s). They Stay on an Asteroid to detonate the bomb, they throw themselves in front of a bullet to save another, They Stay behind to keep a Monster from coming through the door.
Jaune fits this perfectly.
And That's why Jaune is going to live.
RWBY Loves to Usurp Expectations and undermine tropes, and at this point Jaune has been struck with so many Red Flags, he's safe. It's expected that he'll Die, or Stay behind, so therefore he won't.
2. His Importance to the World
Jaune has too many connections to die. His Family is back on Remnant. His Friends are trying to get home. Nora, Ren, and Oscar are back there. He'd be abandoning them, which Jaune isn't wont to do.
I'm certain there is an argument to be made about how Pyrrha was important to the World, but she still died, So I'm Refuting that.
Pyrrha was Important to the Story. Jaune is important to the World.
Here's what We know about Pyrrha's life:
Four Time Champion in Mistral Tournaments.
Pumpkin Pete's Brand Endorser
important enough to get a statue in Argus.
we can assume she has at least one Parent
She's friends with RWBY?
What We know about Jaune's Life:
Is a brother to Seven people
One of whom we've met
is an uncle
Definitive Friend of team RWBY
(Man Pyrrha didn't get many interactions with people outside of Jaune huh)
Friends with Oscar
We Honestly Don't have much information on PYrrha's home life, other than Jaune was the first person in a long time to treat like everybody else. Pyrrha Didn't have the Friends and Family Necessary to decide that Maiden Powers were to big a risk, that Shoving Jaune in a locker instead of Running with him was the better option.
Jaune, as we've seen, has people. A family. Good Friends. Things Pyrrha Didn't have (Screen) Time for.
Jaune has too much to lose.
3. Unfair
It would be unfair for Jaune to have to give up what connections he has to Remnant, but it'd be an even greater Transgression to make those on Remnant give up Jaune.
Nora and Ren have already Lost a teammate, Oscar Undoubtedly cares for Jaune, RWBY is getting out of the Ever After, and I doubt that they'd leave Jaune without an actual Life or Death Battle Where He Makes that decision for them.
And It would Be unfair to Pyrrha. Pyrrha Put so much Effort into making Jaune even remotely close to being a Huntsman, literally saving his Life during Initiation, then Training Him, Giving him Videos, so on and So forth.
It's be spit on Her name For Jaune to stop here.
But For all this I believe Jaune's fate all lies with One Thing ...
4. And You've taken it from Me
As you Can probably guess from this sections title, It's about Neo, and how She relates to Jaune, Because I believe that Their Fates are tied to one another. If Neo dies, Jaune Dies, If Neo Lives, Jaune Lives.
If you've seen any Silent Knight Shippers talk about them, you already know what I'm going to say about them Paralleling each other.
Their Partner Died in the fall because of Cinder, directly or not.
carries around a piece of their partner's outfit.
their partner mentored them into who they are today.
This, while it has more eloquently been said before, is the reason I believe Neo is the biggest determining Factor in Jaune's future.
Now, there in lies the rub, because Neo Will need to be convinced top Not kill Ruby, because Neo will die if she continues down this path. But I believe she Just needs to remember something.
She Needs to remember how to Lie, Cheat, Steal, and Survive.
When She was Falling into the Ever After, She was Focused on Causing Ruby pain. Hurting Her. Neo Didn't care about Falling. She didn't care about Surviving.
But I think She'll figure it out. I don't think She'll necessarily like it though.
5. The Cost of Living
I Have few doubts that anyone is sticking in the Ever After, but seeing as how a major theme of it is being yourself, and who you want to be, and who you have been
"You Never Were the Hero ..."
(Vol 1. Ruby) to Current Ruby: "What are you going to be?"
"What if you could take Ruby Rose off, Like an old Jacket?"
Which Makes me think that Jaune and Neo are going to have to give up what they have of Pyrrha and Roman.
Jaune will Have to give up his Dream of Being a Hero.
Neo will have to give up her quest for Revenge.
Neither will Stop, not completely, But Neo will Just. Leave. She'll work with the Team to get back home, then fuck off, never to be seen again.
Jaune won't stop being heroic, or stop being a huntsman, but he'll stop trying to be Hero. He'll have to let that dream die, so that he can have a chance at living it. Because if he follows that dream, He'll follow in every other Hero's footsteps. Follow them the full six feet down into the dirt.
Thank You for you're time!

Holding Back
Chapter One (7/7) (433 Words)
/== Chapter List ===/
Yang and Pyrrha followed Jaune into JNPR's dorm. Pyrrha gave Ren and Nora a pleading look, and the pair got the message. They exited the room without a word of complaint; more than likely heading to RWBY's dorm. Jaune had said nothing to the pair, aside from asking them to follow him into the dorm. They watched him more to his night stand, and pick up his scroll. They could see him opening his contact list.
“You want to know why I don't use my skills?”
“I would help us understand.” Pyrrha replied, “I'll still train with you, Jaune regardless. We just want to understand.”
“Yang?” Jaune asked.
“You're good, Jaune, and it seems like a waste to me for you to struggle to hold back.” Yang answered, “But like P-money said. We just want to understand. That's all.”
“The reasons I don't use Shadow Skill...” the pair each took in a sharp breath, as Jaune's own words confirmed what Doctor Oobleck had surmised. “You all know I want to help people. I want to live up to the legacy of the Arc name. Be a hero, defend those who can't defend themselves. Shadow Skill is not that...plus...”
“Plus?” Pyrrha hazarded to speak up.
“I ran from home to join Beacon. I never told my family I was coming here. You know this as well... but because of this... I have no right to use Shadow Skill in combat... I don't have permission.” Jaune looked at his scroll for a moment, before turning to face Pyrrha and Yang and tossing his scroll towards them. “Call my mom. She's the top contact.”
“Why?” asked Yang, “Why do you want us to speak to your family?”
“This is in part your fault.” Jaune gave his two friends a look. “You'll own up to it, by telling my mother... then depending on how she takes the news that I've been outed... I'll make the request... or”
“Or?” Pyrrha asked in fear that she knew the answer to her own question.
“I leave Beacon and return home.”
Pyrrha and Yang looked at each other, having a silent conversation, before both nodding. Yang held up the scroll and hit the call button. The video call took a few minutes to connect, and the blond haired woman who was obviously Jaune's mother appeared on the screen.
“Jaun...” blue eyes narrowed as the woman obviously saw that it was not her son on the other end of the call. Her voice turned instantly from cheerful and relieved to venomous. “Why do you have Jaune's scroll? WHERE is my son?”

Personally I'm glad someone finally gave Ruby the business but it shouldn't have been Jaune, of all people - "What about you? It's all about you!" Or at least he shouldn't have contributed to the argument like this when all of WBY are here and none of them say anything. Idk, it just reminds me of Watts shouting down at Cinder in V8.
I think it makes perfect sense given that Jaune is the one who had ("had") to kill Penny and then spent decades dodging assassination/protecting people/trying to find a way out for Team RWBY when they arrive. Given everything he's been through, he's not just in a position to be justifiably pissed at Ruby's leadership, but specifically pissed that - from his ignorant perspective - she's just standing around (AKA unknowingly having flashbacks) while being the target of Neo's attack in the first place. I'd be surprised if Jaune wasn't the most pissed after everything he's been through, up through and including the death of his village.
But that right there is the problem. Jaune is the one who kills Penny. Jaune is the one who spends a lifetime in the Ever After. Jaune is the one with strong ties to the citizens. Jaune is the one with plans and theories and knowledge about how to get home. Jaune is the one going through an extreme mental crisis of his own, just like Ruby. He's the perfect character to lash out at her, but he shouldn't be. There's no reason the story should have Jaune go through All The Plot when WBY is right there, twiddling their thumbs with gags and romance because the story can't find anything else for them to do. It's the problem we knew was coming back when the Volume 8 finale hit: you can't ignore Jaune killing Penny, but making him that focus draws attention away from the girls in a detrimental fashion. Then they tossed in a "Jaune lived a lifetime off screen" plot-point and now we've got a character who is way more interesting and impactful than 3/4ths of our title team.
Volume 9 did a good job of keeping Jaune off screen for a while, but that doesn't mean the girls discovered any new conflicts or goals during that period of freedom. With the exception of Ruby, they're static. Blake and Yang's relationship hasn't changed at all since they confessed. Weiss has only made noises about being sad over Atlas, with no actual development. All three of them literally had magic smoke ask them if they need to improve or change in any way and they went nope! We're good to go. Jaune steals the spotlight because the story is actually willing to give him compelling and complex storylines - even when they're handled badly. He gets to do so much on screen and go through so much whereas WBY are just kinda... there. What are their character arcs this Volume, especially now that Blake and Yang have finally kissed? No idea.

RWBY DC AU #1; Race of the Century!
Lisa Lavender: I’m Lisa Lavender with Vale News, and we are live in Vale at the starting line for the charity event people are calling, “The Race of the Century!”
Lisa(walking over to the start line where the Justice League, Justice Society and Young Justice are chatting with each other): This charity event is being held to raise funds for Beacon’s curriculum and the upkeep of Vale’s borders against the Grimm.
Lisa(as she approaches the participants of the race): As well as answer the question many have asked concerning our beloved heroes, just who is the fastest?
Lisa(as she walks up to Sage Ayana): Here with me is the Justice League’s Huntsman Representative, Sage Ayana, can you tell our viewers about the contestants Mr Ayana.
Sage(smiling): Well not only are we raising funds for Beacon and the upkeep of Vale, we’re also determining who amongst these heroes are the fastest!
Lisa(as the cameraman faces the each participant of the race, starting with The Justice Society’s Flash/Bart Oobleck as he warms up): The Justice Society’s own speedster, the original Flash?
Sage(Superboy/Adrien is shown stretching and channeling aura throughout his body and into his perf-boost semblance): Young Justice’s own Superboy, the Teen of Steel?
Lisa(Harriet is shown inspecting her weapon and angrily glaring at the heroes around her): Atlas’ Ace-Op member, Harriet “Hare” Bree?
Sage(as Kid Flash/Oscar is seen adjusting his red gauntlets and red soles of his black boots, before making sure that his silver mask is perfectly adjusted for his high speed run with help from Robin/Whitley): One of my preferred contestants, Young Justice’s Kid Flash, the Fastest Teen Alive?
Lisa(as Superwoman/Yang is shown going over the route for the race on a map with Batwoman/Blake and Star Sapphire/Nora): His mother, the Justice League’s own Superwoman?
Sage(as The Flash/Jaune is seen eating an energy bar and memorizing the route with help from Green Lantern/Ruby and Green Arrow/Sun): Or will the Flash prove himself worthy of his title, “Fastest Man Alive”?
Lisa(as the camera pans back to them): We should go over the route for our viewers at home.
Sage(nodding his head as he motions to a screen behind him, showing the continents of Remnant): Right! The racers will start here in Vale.
Tumblr media
Sage(Aquaman/Neptune bursts up from the shores of Menagerie with Red Tornado/Penny observing from her place next to the first checkpoint): They’ll have to race across the ocean to reach Menagerie, potentially breaking the sound barrier as they do so!
Sage(as the screen shows Troia/Pyrrha and a large crowd at the second checkpoint in Mistral): They’ll then race to the next checkpoint in Mistral.
Sage(Wonder Woman/Winter is shown on the streets of Mantle at the third checkpoint): Brave the harsh blizzards of Atlas to reach the third checkpoint in Mantle, marking the halfway point.
Sage(while Dr Fate/Ozpin and Cyclone/Glynda are shown at the fourth checkpoint at the edge of the Grimmlands): Cut across the borders of the Grimmlands, passing the fourth point as they go.
Sage(Superman/Taiyang is seen hovering by the fifth checkpoint in Vacuo with Constantine/Qrow zipping from his flask nearby): From there, they’ll continue going as they cross the scorching sands towards Vacuo!
Sage(as the starting line is seen once again): They race across the continent in a full on race back to the starting point here in Vale!
Sage(as he is seen once again): Whoever crosses the finish line first, well be declared the fastest!
Lisa(as Green Lantern/Ren hovers above the start line): It appears as though the race is about to begin!
Lisa(as the racers take their places upon the start line): Each contestant has been given a special bracelet to help track their progress from here.
Sage(as one of the bracelets is shown on Jaune’s wrist, as he pulls his glove back into place, hiding it): These bracelets also provide them with the route they’ll take, as well as record they’re highest speed.
Green Lantern/Ruby(kissing her husband on the cheek as he lines up on the start line): You got this sweetie!
Superwoman/Yang(offended by her sister picking Jaune over her): What am I, chopped liver?!
Green Lantern/Ren(making a construct flare gun once everyone is lined up): Ready?!
Green Lantern/Ren(as Superboy and Superwoman crouch slightly): On your marks…
Green Lantern/Ren(as Harriet assumes a three-point stance and lightning emits from her eyes with a scowl on her face): Get set…
The three Speedforce users’ vibrate in place, generating a great deal of lightning each as Ren finally fires of the green flare to send them on their way.
Green Lantern/Ren(as the flare shots up into the sky): GO!!!
The six contestants take off with a huge gust of wind, lightning and a boom left in their wake.
Only one will win!

Bro, outside of Jaune's Paper Pleasers, I don't think any of the mains said the names of any of the left behind people this season.
Jaune didn't express a desire to see Ren and Nora again, despite them being his supposedly former closest friends.
Yang and Ruby didn't worry about Qrow's possible fate or wonder if he made it to Vacuo, and they didn't acknowledge or worry over the fact that if they didn't get to Remnant again soon, their dad would think they were dead.
Ruby didn't remember Maria existed or worry about if Penny's dad made it or how he would take Penny's death, and she didn't worry about how Oscar was dealing with having lost the majority of the people he knew in this fight.
Weiss didn't say anything at all about her newly Maiden sister likely struggling with the refugees and the war in Vacuo, didn't say anything about how her death might affect her alcoholic mother, and didn't express any worry or sadness or hope for the underage teenage civilian auraless brother she recently reconciled with being homeless in Vacuo alone.
Blake didn't take a second to wonder if her supposedly being dead was going to affect her parents, Sun, or Ilia, and didn't wonder how they might have reacted to the message they'd put out in volume eight.
None of them worry over having left Oscar, Nora, and Ren to deal with Emerald, who they should all still be hesitant to trust, especially with 'Penny died again' so fresh on their minds.
None of them act like they're in any hurry to get back because they need to be there for anyone, or because they have any obligation towards Remnant, in fact Blake and Yang act like they're pretty wholly unconcerned with Remnant anyway to the point where I'm surprised they could actually go through the door to Remnant themselves, instead of being kept back like Neo was.
Ruby is at least somewhat understandable because she was reeling from Penny's death, suffering a depression, and at least had a moment where she reacted to Neo turning her fake-clones into people she knew. Weiss is ehhhhh slightly understandable because at least she was written to be acting upset and worried sometimes when she wasn't being used as comic relief, and actually seemed to want to try to get home.
But still, it's like the writers wrote out the characters for volume nine and then were like "out of sight, out of mind, our audience will just pretend that the girls worried about their families and friends off screen, we don't actually have to show that they care about the people that we want the audience to think they have bonds with - what was that? Rwby is a show supposedly built around the concepts of friendship and that the main characters are kind compassionate people and the entire theme of the show falls apart if we don't actually make the bonds of friendship and care believable? Um, we're a little busy right now having Yang not notice her sister's obvious suffering to worry about making sure Weiss looks like she gives a shit if her auraless little brother is a homeless refugee."
