The way Neo gets her perfectly orchestrated revenge and then just…collapses. Because she spent so long blaming Ruby for all her grief, loss and failures, because she really thought revenge would help…and then it was worth nothing.
Like, Neo was so despicable this chapter. It was easy to hate her when she dedicated her time to torturing Ruby in the most painful ways possible. But then it’s over and she’s just…hollow.
We see it in the photos in the house:

First her parents, then Torchwick, then Cinder. Neo always had someone to lean on, even if they were also controlling or manipulative (true of 2/3).
But now? In the Ever After? Neo is well and truly alone, even with her semblance. Unlike baby Trivia, she doesn’t even have that imaginary friend Neo to lean on.
And because of that, the cat tore her apart.

You know, as ready as Neo is to ascend, and as much as she wants to, I don’t think she would be willing to entirely forget Roman.
I think Neo tells the Blacksmith that.
“Don’t worry” says the Blacksmith “You, and your friend, would approve the life I have in mind for you”
So Neo ascends. She’s different now. She doesn’t know who she is, where she’s going. She’s just a person, wandering around the ever after. She’ll figure out what to do eventually.
She wanders around the Ever After. She meets people, fraternizes with them, and inevitably moves on. Some part of the every after will fit her, or She’s been told.
She’ll find it someday.
Eventually She stumbles across a glittering table in the woods littered with all sorts of things. The air smells like smoke, the various colored gemstones lining the trees beautifully eyecatching.
“Don’t set those on fire!”
Someone at the table has spoken, and She turned quizzically toward the clamor, where several pairs of eyes had fixed on her, all looking rather frantic, with the exception of the young man at the very head of the table.
“You could actually” He twirls a silver spoon around in his hand “Light them on fire, that is.”
“They’ll blow up!” Someone shouts.
“Some people” He leans lazily back in his chair “All up in a tizzy over the chance of an explosion.”
He meets her gaze, the lazy smile around his lips somehow deeply familiar.
The rest of the tables inhabitants return their clamor but She finds herself entirely focused on the person at the head, who continues looks at her with an odd sort of curiosity.
She finds herself at the head of the table next to Him. Somehow She’s enjoying herself more in this random gathering than she has anywhere else in the Everafter.
“So you don’t talk much, huh?”
She thinks for a minute. She’s never talked before. It doesn’t seem like something she wants to do, so;
Nope.
“How charming!” He grins. “Why talk talk, when you can talk without talking?”
She smiles. Some people have trouble listening without talking.
He nods solemly. He has no problem hearing her without talking.
What’s your name?
“Oh, my name? I can’t say I’ve ever thought about that. I’ll get to it later. You?”
Don’t have one.
“Well, you’ll find one. Coffee?”
She doesn’t know what coffee is, but she knows it’s not supposed to be in such a lovely cup.
She sticks her tongue out at him. He looks mock aghast.
She sticks around with Him. He likes to talk, talk with words, and seems to know everything about everything, but nothing about anything. Eventually, they start to wander, having a wonderful conversation about everything and nothing.
She pauses the walk to climb a strange looking tree while He happily looks on from below. “I think” He says “You are my favorite thing in the ever after.”
She grins back down at Him.
The feeling is mutual. “Where is it you belong?” He asks, pulling himself onto a branch next to her “In the Ever After, what section?”
I had been looking for it.
“Ah. Have you found it?”
Yes.

Since Roman Holiday established that Neo liked video games growing up as Trivia, I wonder if that carried over to Neopolitan?
Like Roman is just chilling in his Secret Crime Lair when from the other room he just sees a console controller just go flying out in a fit of rage, smashing to pieces against the wall.
ROMAN: Gods dammit, Neo, you need to work on your rage quitting! I'm not stealing you another controller this time!

what would roman torchwick think of neo's choice at the end of v9 and her wanting to be like them
I think he'd be happy for her.
Yeah it sounds crazy considering who Roman is but remember at the end of Roman Holiday after she saved him Roman says "I don't know why you would stick with a guy like me. With your skills, you could be anything, even a Huntress."
Not to mention Roman has expressed several times to Neo that she shouldn't stick with him, even at one point pleading with her to save herself instead of worrying about him when her life was at stake.
I also believe he wouldn't want her to pursue revenge. esp if it has her costing her own life and well-being. Basically it goes against his philosophy of survival.
So yes imo, I think he'd be happy for her choice

Just finished Roman Holiday, and it made Neo shoot up from my favorite character in RWBY based purely on aesthetics to my favorite character in the show full stop. Wish we'd have gotten some of this in the show but I get how that wouldn't have quite fit

Neo: So, last night, Roman was really tired and he tripped and fell, but I just I responded by signing “the empire has fallen!” as I walked away.
Neo: Anyway, it’s been a 16 hours, and he still won’t let me back in the house.

So this may simply be due to not everyone having read Roman Holiday, but one aspect of Neo’s character I think fan are really sleeping on is her potential dynamic with Trivia. Like consider this: Every time we’ve seen Neo’s glass-doppelganger trick with her semblance in the show? I think it’s a pretty safe bet that we’ve technically been seeing TRIVIA.
See, in Roman Holiday, we find out that ‘Neo’ first appeared as basically Trivia’s imaginary friend manifesting through her semblance, specifically as that doppelganger we later see her use. Now what’s interesting is that when I was recently rereading the book, I got the sense that we get hints that ‘Neo’ was actually the result of Trivia, likely unknowingly, trying to dissociate and process all of her anger, trauma and general rebelliousness towards her parents and general life. ‘Neo’ being both her friend and her outlet for all the things she’s been repressing.
And the reason I’m fairly confident of this is because it is only after ‘Neo’ (or rather her physical manifestation through Trivia’s semblance) is destroyed by her mother about a third of the way into the book, that Trivia begins to actually start adopting and transitioning to her identity as Neopolitan. And at the end of the book, after Neo/Trivia has more or less killed her parents and burned down her childhood home, she copes with this by deciding that Trivia died in that explosion to. Essentially bringing this idea of repressing a separate identity that represents everything you don’t want to face, full circle.
Now, does anyone else find it curious that in the show we only ever see Neo making ONE doppelganger? Or the fact that we only ever see her USE this ability Post-Volume 3? After Roman’s death, when Neopolitan is clearly in a very bad place emotionally and is trying to cope by blaming/murdering whoever she can for Roman’s death?
Basically, I'm pretty sure we’re going to find out that ‘Trivia’ isn’t actually gone. Just that she and Neo have effectively switched places. Now with ‘Trivia’ as the dissociated identity that Neo is using to repress all of her emotional pain and trauma over Roman’s death, with ‘Trivia’ now manifesting as her semblance-doppelganger just as ‘Neo’ once did.
Of course, this time I imagine that instead of ‘Neo’ trying to convince Trivia to rebel against her parents, ‘Trivia’ is going to be trying to convince Neo to stop chasing revenge. But Neo’s not going to take that easily either...
Like I said in a previous post: Given RWBY’s numerous Lord of the Rings references, I’m pretty sure Neo/Trivia are going to be a kind of inverse-Gollum/Smegol. Whereas Gollum tried to convince Smeagol to be mean and cruel, Trivia tries to convince Neo that they’ve taken this too far and they need to just stop and Roman wouldn’t want them destroying themselves.
