RWBYVamped: Nora Valkyrie’s Introduction Scene
EXT. BEACON ACADEMY — MAIN CAMPUS
Jaune is standing around looking at his scroll. Suddenly, footsteps can be heard from out of the scene, when suddenly, an strong, orange haired girl grabs poor Jaune by the waste and backward suplexes him onto the ground. Confused and injured, Jaune gets back up.
Nora
“Oh, damn! You’ve got a strong aura. You didn’t even need to avoid my ambush. You could just rely on that brick wall of a defense you’ve got.”
Jaune
“What the hell did you do *that* for?”
Nora
“That’s my way of greeting people.”
Jaune
“Your way of greeting people?”
Nora
“If you want to get to know your allies, you have to catch them off guard to know their hunting potential.”
Jaune
“You know, you probably could’ve just done that without ambushing me like that?”
Nora
“No!”
Jaune
“No?! What do you me-”
Nora suplexes Jaune once more. Jaune gets back up.
Jaune
“OW!”
Nora
“Dude! What is your freaking aura and why is it this monstrously powerful?”
Jaune
“Did you just do that *again*?”
Nora
“Okay, listen. Just because your aura is strong doesn’t mean you have to brag about it. At least try to dodge me next time.”
Jaune
“I’m not bra-… I didn’t even see you coming.”
Nora
“Question: Have you ever broken your aura?”
Jaune
“What does that have to do with you assaulting me twice?”
Nora
“Well, it’ll probably tell me something about you without me having to suplex you. Give or take.”
Jaune
“Why would you… Well… okay, a few times during training with my father, my aura would shatter.”
Nora
“Your father?! I’m sorry, what kind of physical, drunken abuse do you have to bear from your father for your powerful aura to break?”
Jaune
“Well… yeah. He has a very aggressive training style.”
Nora
“I mean, hypothetically, if I had a child that developed a stupid strong aura that could resist two of my suplexes, I would politely ask them if they could become a hunter or huntress, because that shit sounds useful. No god damn wonder you got yourself accepted into Beacon.“
Jaune
“Um… thank you for the compliment?”
A bit of a pause happens and then as Jaune flinches from the girl grabbing his waist, he gets suplexed once more.
Jaune
“W-What the hell?!”
Nora
“Wait, do you actually just have bad reflexes?”
Jaune
“Ow… Um…”
Nora
“Lemme make sure.”
Jaune
“Make su-“
Jaune is suplexed a fourth time.
Jaune
“STOP! STOP IT!”
Nora
“Yeah. You know what? How did you get accepted into Beacon with *that* kind of reflex? Oh my god.”
Jaune
“I’m sorry, but…”
Nora
“No, don’t be. I won’t suplex you, alright? We haven’t even introduced each other. Nora Valkyrie’s the name.”
Jaune
“…Jaune Arc.”
Nora
“Wait! You’re an Arc?! Like, a ‘My dad’s a professor at Holy Virgin Academy’ Arc?”
Jaune
“Yeah. That kind of Arc.”
Nora
“Your father really is an asshole.”
Jaune
“Yeah. I’ve known that for my whole life.”

In regards to the whole, “Read RWBY’s books to learn about Theo” point a few days ago, when I took Screenwriting class this Fall Semester of college, my professor’s big rule when we were reading someone’s script was, “The author isn’t allowed to talk, all they can do is take notes and clarify if something was in the script or not if someone is confused about a detail. If it wasn’t in the screenplay, it didn’t happen.”
Of course, screenwriting is much different from how we experience visual mediums, especially for a series looking to expand into multimedia franchise like RWBY seemingly wants to (books, the upcoming Arrowfell game, etc), but even with things like say, Star Wars, the books don’t usually withhold important info to explain things that you see in the shows and movies (except for… quite a few things in the Sequel Trilogy). If Rebels got you interested in Thrawn, you can go read the books dedicated to his origin and work in the Empire. You wanted to see more of Luke’s adventures in the Rebellion or Darth Vader being cool, the comics are glad to accommodate that itch. You want to see other Jedi survive Order 66, we got Fallen Order, Rebels, and dozens of other stories. Star Wars’ multimedia is generally expanding upon info the movies imply or give, and generally aren’t considered required viewing if you just want to enjoy the movies or shows.
But in all honesty, I never found RWBY’s supplementary material too relevant to my viewing experience anyway. Speaking as someone who still, to this day, has not watched a single World of Remnant episode or read any of the books, I understand what’s going on just fine. I’m sure this is a bigger problem if you’re actively invested in Remnant as a setting, but I’ve never been into RWBY for the ‘deep’ setting.
Yeah, how much the supplemental material does or does not matter hinges a lot on how invested the viewer is in understanding the world for themselves, rather than just going along for the ride, putting questions on the back burner until the show decides to answer them. For me personally, I’m not so much into a ‘deep’ setting either as I am compelling characterization. For example, the Relics’ powers. I don’t care about the powers on their own. Some fans might be super invested in that level of world building, but I’m not. Instead, I care about how those powers impact the characters: their view of the situation, their relationships with one another, their approach towards this war and its villains, etc. So it becomes a problem when the information that should be influencing their development exists only in the supplemental works. We the audience know what the Crown does and have a pretty solid guess about the Sword based on its name, but no one has ever discussed that with the main characters. They understand the Lamp—only because that’s how they solidified their current understanding of the other Relics in the first place—and they learned about Ambrosius’ power literally a scene before they started using it. So for me, the criticism is less, “I can’t believe RWBY hasn’t included these world building details” and much more, “I can’t believe our cast learned that there were four Relics created by a God, know that these are the exact artifacts the Big Bad is after to destroy the world with, have used one of them to forward their own agenda… and no one has ever once questioned what the others are capable of doing?” It makes the characters seem like they don’t care about the war, or how best to tackle it, about preparing ahead, all that jazz. It makes them look like kids who are neck deep in denial and, therefore, should not be in charge of this fight.
The franchise’s desire to keep things separate results in the characters never asking questions. Why does it take until Volume 5 to explain how semblances might connect to personalities? How come Ruby never interrogates anyone about her Silver Eyes? Why doesn’t Blake or Yang want to know how Adam got the brand of their BFF’s family plastered on his face? The franchise acts as if because we the audience get those answers in side Fairy Tales or mobile games, there’s no reason for the characters to canonically learn about them because it’s already ‘happened.’ But as your screenwriting example lays out, it didn’t happen unless we see it/it’s discussed on screen. It's already bad enough imo to, say, have your characters ignoring that brand, but the lack of that work is particularly frustrating in a series now revolving around lies and secrets. It’s really hard to take the characters seriously about knowledge-based problems when the show itself is so bad at communicating knowledge. Why do I care about Yang being upset over lies when she’s never brought up the fact that her mother is a Maiden? She comes across as hypocritical. Why should I believe that Theodore is a trustworthy figure for Ruby to lean on when he exists only in Myers’ books? She comes across as dangerously naive for trusting him after three falling outs with headmasters. By failing to incorporate this information canonically, that lack hurts our protagonists' characterizations, made worse by the story continually ignoring those now blatant flaws for a far more complimentary reading of their choices.
And I think that last example showcases that this problem has grown way, way worse over the years. Yeah, World of Remnant isn’t that bad and, as you say, I don’t think viewers have to have seen it in order to understand what’s going on in the webseries. Back then, RWBY was better at merely expanding on ideas that already existed in the show: here’s a bit more information about the Great War Ozpin already mentioned, here’s a bit more information about how semblances work after Pyrrha already explained it, etc. Now though, the supplemental material isn’t just expanding on canonical ideas (or doing AU work in the form of RWBY Chibi), but actively doing work that should be in the main series as well. But isn't. We’ve moved from, “It would have been cool to get that info in the webseries too, but it’s okay that we didn’t” to, “I’m not sure this counts as representation if it only exists in a comic few fans are reading. Or worse, an interview with the writers” to, “You based the core of Ironwood’s entire characterization—the heart and conflict of two Volumes—on a semblance that’s only EVER mentioned in a Q&A?” to finally, “I wouldn’t have even known Theodore’s name if book fans hadn’t communicated that to me, let alone that he’s supposedly this good guy who has done all these good things, thereby justifying Ruby’s faith in him… even though she doesn’t know about any of that either.”
We’ve reached a point in the franchise where the characters act as if they’re reading RWBY material on the side and that, to me, is a far bigger problem than where we started out with World of Remnant. It's a problem that has moved from a simple world building issue, to a characterization issue. I can only speak for myself, but I'm far more willing to shrug off a messy world than I am illogical, contradictory, and hypocritical (without engaging with that) characterization for our title team. That ruins the story for me in a way, "Idk how dust works exactly, but whatever. The show's still so much fun!" never could.

⭐2020 Fics in Review ⭐
Happy New Year’s Eve! 💫💫💫 2020 sure was a year... between everything that was happening on the macro (the pandemic, elections, etc.) and on the micro-level (shows delayed, some ending - disastrously, so much drama, etc.), the past 12 months felt like a blur. Especially since we’ve been inside and realized time is an illusion!
But, there were moments where I was able to ground myself in the present and not be swept away by the tide. Most of them were because of fanfiction. Whether writing or reading, fanworks became a soothing balm. And I’d be remiss (and breaking tradition) if I didn’t reflect on my past works of 2020!
I’ve written 43 fics across a wide array of fandoms - the most being Supernatural, with 9-1-1, DC Comics, Marvel, Boku No Hero Academia, Stargirl, Star Wars, Hollywood, and RWBY sprinkled in. I really branched out this year, and am looking forward to what I will write in 2021. Maybe new fandoms? Maybe an original work? Who’s to say!
Thank you to all those who’ve read my works, and am grateful for both your support and continued engagement - can’t wait to see you in 2021 with me 😁
Here are my works!
9-1-1 (TV Show)
Caught (Evan ‘Buck’ Buckely/Eddie Diaz, side Athena Grant/Bobby Nash, side Maddie Buckley/Howie ‘Chimney’ Han)
Photobooths are prime for catching special moments and making them last forever, even if they are less both and more open spaces with a backdrop. When Athena, Bobby, and Michael stumble upon one such moment between Buck and Eddie, what will they do?
And how will it affect Maddie and Chimney?
Lumped Together (Evan ‘Buck’ Buckely/Eddie Diaz, side Henrietta ‘Hen’ Wilson/Karen Wilson, side Maddie Buckley/Howie ‘Chimney’ Han)
As an apology for keeping her thoughts about medical school secret from her wife and partner, Hen takes them (and Maddie) out for lunch. With the promise that it would only be them. And for the most part it was. Until Buck and Eddie strode in with every intention of eating Takoyaki.
Just not with them.
Armed with new information, what's a girl to do? Hen spends the next day fighting back the natural instinct to tease her friends about the wonderful step they've taken together in their relationship. Can she make it home without saying anything? Or will she give in?
DCU
Lonely Together (Barry Allen/Bruce Wayne, past Barry Allen/Iris West, past Bruce Wayne/Selina Kyle)
Barry needs others, yet whether by his enemies or his own actions, he ends up alone. After Iris leaves him, Barry feels as if he drifts through life. Like lightning humming in the air without a rod to ground him.
Until he struck another lonely soul and entered a relationship he never thought possible. Now, months since he and Bruce began sleeping with each other, Barry feels settles. At peace in a way he hasn't felt in a long while. Since he and Iris started petering out.
But it's not love... is it?
Come Home (Jason Todd/Kyle Rayner)
Jason Todd gets a message from Bruce. He's surprised to see it. Then, he's surprised by the message itself. Hearing Bruce's final message stirs something inside of him, urging him towards a place he's avoided ever since his and Bruce's falling out. So he gathers his things, and then... waits.
He can't leave yet. Jason doesn't know why. Bruce gave him a mission, just like old times. Except it's not, because he... Jason can't move. Can't even stand.
That's how Kyle finds him.
Restless (Barry Allen/Bruce Wayne)
Returning home from a mission in outer space, the team picks up a distress signal off-course. They rush off to help, landing on a strange alient planet teeming with life. Especially within the plant kingdom.
While guarding the Javelin, Bruce and Barry encounter one such member while engaging in some familiar fight-flirting. Will its effects spell trouble for the League, or help these two relax their guards long enough to explore new possibilities?
(Hint: It's a little bit of both)
Marvel
Hot Seat (Peter Parker/Johnny Storm)
Spiderman likes Johnny. Like likes him. And he thought Johnny felt the same. He wasn't wrong, but Johnny like liked someone else, too. Someone he actually wanted to pursue, over Spiderman.
Unfortunately that someone is Peter Parker.
However, after a terrible misunderstanding, Johny isn't too keen on seeing either Peter or Spiderman; the longer this confusion left unresolved, the more Johnny's hurt would fester. Can Peter find a way to make Johnny listen?
Hollywood
Merrily We Roll Along (Archie Coleman/Rock Hudson)
With their careers still on the rise and no peak in sight, sometimes Archie's and Roy's lives get a little too busy. Understandably so. Archie's in the midst of writing his next screenplay while the latest opens across America. Roy spend more time on set than at home working on his latest project. When their schedules allow it, all they want is to be together.
Can they enjoy a simple morning together, or will the clouds of Hollywood cast a heavy shadow over their sunny day?
RWBY
Lucky You, Huh? (Qrow Branwen/Clover Ebi)
After all that happened, it's time for the dust to settle. Choices were made. Now, the consequences for certain actions need to be carried out.
Even though he fought alongside her to save Mantle, Robyn Hill couldn't help save Clover from the whims of the Council. Without a job or home, Clover needs to find a way to carry on.
If anyone understands what that feels like, it's Qrow. Never being one who can communicate his feelings well, would he be the best to comfort the other man. When he's the only one who can, what does that mean for Clover?
Star Wars
Fourth (Poe Dameron/Finn)
What's a man and his co-general to do when they're on a mission together on a planet known for frequent sandstorms?
Flirt? That is a possibility. And definitely the one they take.
Stargirl
I’m Here (Courtney Whitmore/Yolanda Montez, past Yolanda Montez/Henry King, Jr.)
Coda to 1x10 "Brainwave Jr."
Losing Henry was sad, but it's not the first person Courtney knew whose future was snatched by the Injustice Society of America. That doesn't make his death any less tragic. It does remind Courtney how screwed up and dangerous her life was. At least she was able to wake up the next day and keep moving. And so was Beth, and Rick. But Yolanda...
Where was Yolanda? Courtney needs to know.
Crusher (Lawrence Crock/Paula Crock, Pat Dugan/Barbara Whitmore, Lawrence Crock/Pat Dugan)
When Lawrence met Pat, he saw another body that could benefit from some exercise at his gym. The more they interacted, became friends, he saw that body doing other things in other places. And his wife is totally supportive of this. While in the midst of an afterhours training session, Lawrence drags his feet on telling his friend a few important things. Egged on by Paula, will he say what's on his mind? How will Pat react?
And does Pat have a secret or two of his own?
Boku No Hero Academia/My Hero Academia
Little Secrets Everywhere (Bakugou Katsuki/Kirishima Eijiro)
Mina thought letting Bakugo read whatever was in her folder wouldn't be too bad. Maybe he would snipe at her for her less than perfect English translation and sentence structure, slap her on the head with the balled up assignment. What she wasn't expecting was for him to charge with hellish fury towards her in the common room with all their friends to see.
One careless mistake leads to many things coming to light. Everyone walking away with something new to think about.
Boku No Fundanshi (Bakugou Katsuki/Kirishima Eijiro)
Bakugo Katsuki is a top student at the premier hero academy in the world. Bakugo Katsuki is a boy with the ability to use his sweat as a weapon, each droplet containing enough nitroglycerin to obliterate a phone book. Bakugo Katsuki enjoys reading manga where boys fall in love with one another. Two out of the three are commonly accepted facts. The final one is a heavily guarded secret that Bakugo protects with his life. At least until his vigilance lapses, and he loses a doujinshi.
Will he be able to recover what he lost before anyone realizes it's his? Or, by the end of this, will he have found something he didn't know he was missing?
Portmanteau (Bakugou Katsuki/Kirishima Eijiro)
Portmanteau (port·man·teau) n. a word blending the sounds and combining the meanings of two others
Like Bakugo's chosen hero name. But was that his first choice? Kirishima doesn't think so, after finding a damning piece of evidence hidden within his notes. Except it's not what he thinks, at all...
Supernatural
Real (Dean Winchester/Castiel, background Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
Coda to 15x09 "The Trap"
Morning after, and Sam spies a little something blossoming in the kitchen. Something that stokes the fires of his curiosity. When the scene ends, he walks in with an intent to investigate. Learn about the strange magic that happened before his eyes. How quickly Dean and Cas's relationship repaired. And what brilliant new shape it took on after Purgatory.
Will Sam be satisfied with the answer?
Half-Priced Chocolates (Dean Winchester/Castiel, background Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
The day after Valentine's Day is great for many things. Basking in the glow of a night well spent, sharing the joy of love with your family, and eating chocolate priced considerably lower than it was the day before.
Except Sam can't enjoy any of that, because Dean won't let him. Because Dean woke up in a sour mood and has picked up the banners of war against romantic love.
Albeit, the three aforementioned things might make his conflict the shortest in history.
Spill (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Dean always thought it would take more to force him into retirement. Yet here he is, locked in the Bunker until the world figures out a cure for a deadly virus. It could be worse - at least they have a home. He cannot imagine how worse it would be if this happened years earlier, where he and Sam were trapped in a tiny motel room together. Here they have options, and miles of outdoor space they can stroll through if their options become stale.
And they were beginning to. Dean could only do so much indoors. Dean knew he needed to shake things up, but couldn't begin thinking how. Luckily Castiel has an idea, and gives him a new way of looking at their kitchen.
Supernatural Crack🩹tober
Following the Supernatural Cracktober prompt list, one day at a time.
Prompts will be listed in the notes and the chapter title.
Enjoy!
Bullets Over the Bayou (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Everyone wants Castiel Novak to quit the force, including Castiel. But he stays on despite the toxic work environment he’s surrounded by. Still believing he can do some good despite the many lines of red tape impeding him. Luckily, a pair of scissors by the name of Dean Winchester drops into his hands, and he finally feels like he can do some good.
Dean Winchester thought he would be in New Orleans for a day or two. Identify the body of his deadbeat father and then move on. No one knows he’s here. His mother and brother are blissfully unaware of the danger his father roped him into. With a parting gift of a journal, delivered to him the same day he received word about his father, Dean has become the target of a group of people who want him dead. The same people who killed his father.
Racing against the clock, can Dean and Castiel figure out what is so important about John Winchester’s journal that someone would kill for it?
Kick Ball Change (Dean Winchester/Castiel, background Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
Coda to 15x10 "The Heroes' Journey"
Dean has the Bunker to himself at a time after he and Sam regain their supernatural abilities. With nothing needing his attention, he decides taking time for himself wouldn't hurt. But the usual fare leaves him bored and tired.
So he tries something new. Something he wanted to try, but wasn't sure he would be good at. Dean starts off strong, but doing it on your own can only be so fun. Get you so far. Luckily a partner happens by and truly allows Dean to enjoy a part of himself he knew was there, but didn't want to share.
Tempered Desires (Dean Winchester/Castiel, background Charlie Bradbury/OC, background Sam Winchester/Jessica Moore, background Sam Winchester/Ruby, background Sam Winchester/Mick Davies, past Dean Winchester/Arthur Ketch)
Dating, sex, and finding love were the farthest things on the minds of both Dean and Castiel. There were more important things to worry about - namely the pandemic that swept across the globe and changed everything. Navigating this new environment was hard enough without adding romance.
But fate never intervenes when you expect. From first meetings to first dates, we'll see how Dean and Castiel's relationship blossoms despite the circumstances.
Sunrise (Dean Winchester/Castiel, background Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
Dean and Sam were free. Finally, unequivocally, free.
But this wasn't the happy ending Dean had expected. Maybe in the past, having Sam in the passenger seat tearing across an open stretch of highway as the sunsets, it'd be what he wanted. But that was years ago. He's not that man anymore. Dean's tired of sunsets, of saying goodbye. He yearns for a different ending. One that's less of an ending, and more of a beginning. A sunrise instead of a sunset.
Sam has his. Dean lost his. Despite this setback, he won't stop. He'll live in memory of his sunrise.
Except, what can he do when he feels those rays on his face again?
Coda to 15x19
Fixing It (Dean Winchester/Castiel, background Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
Dean Winchester walked a long & difficult road. House burning down when he was 4, constantly being on the move until his father lost a fight with demons at the age of 25. Reunited with his mother only to lose her again. Have a son only to lose him, too. Of all the shadows that have crossed his path, he thought one of the main sources of light was his husband Castiel.
But he had to ruin that, too.
Can he ever have that shine again? Or are there things that are too good for him to hold? Will they mend what was broken?
Heart in My Hand (Dean Winchester/Castiel, background Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
He was right there.
Cas was telling Dean everything he ever wanted to hear since meeting the angel of the Lord... only each and every word of his confession stabbed at Dean's heart. Because once he finished, there's no more time for them. For him. For any chance of happiness - all that taken away by the Empty. And now he has to carry on.
He tries. Stands, gets in his car and drives where Sam tells him. When he meets with the others, though...
Coda to 15x18 "Despair"
A Dumb Idea (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
They celebrated Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, birthdays, even the Fourth of July. What about the other holidays? What about Valentine's Day?
Mrs. Butters actually had a plan for that, but she left before it could come to fruition. Sam, however, stumbles on Dean and a leftover piece from said plan. Something Dean would rather Sam not see. When he does get a peek as to what it is, well... Dean and Sam have a lot to talk about.
Coda to 15x14 "The Last Holiday"
What the Water Gave Him (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
It was over. Chuck lost, Sam and Dean can live their lives how they want them. But their victory wasn't without losses. The biggest upset nearly taking Dean out of the game, happening so close to the final battle. Now he's on the other side, alive against all odds, but Sam knows he isn't happy. Not truly happy since the Empty stole his best friend.
But there's a chance they can save him. A slim chance. A risk that Dean's willing to take despite every logical nerve in Sam's body screaming at him to look for better options. That threading a needle this small is too dangerous. That they don't have to take on another big bad, not anymore. That they don't have to risk their lives anymore. Dean is far past the point of listening. Dead set on this mission, Sam can only watch.
And pray his brother proves him wrong.
(Now with art from gabester-sketch)
Acutely (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Jack said he's sorry, after getting his soul back.
Jack said he's sorry, and he's looking at Dean. They're all looking at Dean.
Jack said he's sorry, and Dean can't take it. It's too much. Like a frog thrown into a boiling pot he hops out, jumping out from the room towards safety. Doing his best not to succumb to the pain.
He can't hide forever, let the wounds fester. It's too much to deal with on his own, though. Can someone help him through it?
Leeches (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Sharing a Netflix makes sense, in hindsight. Dean gets it. But that doesn't mean he appreciates seeing a bunch of profiles after his that weren't there last he checked.
He's gonna get to the bottom of this - of when this happened, why, and how they were able to guess his password.
Revival (Dean Winchester/Castiel, Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
Sam and Dean stand there on the bridge, the camera panning out on them as they are finally reunited in Heaven.
But then Sam wakes up.
(Coda/Fix-It Fic to 15x20 "Carry On")
Memento (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Why did Castiel have a photo of himself in a cowboy hat? Where did he get it? Who took it, and more importantly who gave it to him?
Coda to 15x15 "Gimme Shelter"
The End (We Deserve) (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Dean Winchester dies in Sam's arms.
And then he doesn't.
(How that scene originally looked...)
Constants
Meeting with alternate versions of themselves makes Sam and Dean think about what the landscape of the former multiverse might have looked like - or, really, "If there can be multiple Deans and multiple Sams, can there be other versions of things they know. Like... Baby?"
Dean says no. There's only one Baby. She's got four wheels, black paint, and has been his from the beginning. Sam thinks otherwise.
Let's explore what the possibilities of Deans, Sams, and Babys in different universes might look like.
Enjoy the Present (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Sam had a birthday, Jack had a birthday...
It would only be fitting for Dean to have one, too. It's expected, really. Yet the one Sam and Jack throw him still catches him by surprise. Maybe because he actually agreed with Butters, about having outgrowned birthdays. Or because his thoughts were pulled elsewhere because of some disappointing news.
If it's the latter, than a birthday will definitely take his mind off of that. Especially when it comes time for his present.
Coda to 15x14 'The Last Holiday'
Swallow It Whole (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
"The older you get... the less lies make everything better"
But when you've told as many lies as Dean has, it's hard to tell what's true and what's not. How can he remove all the rotten parts of himself without bringing everything down? Which lies have ingrained themselves so firmly, that removing them would change everything about who he was?
And, scariest of them all, who would he be without those lies?
Coda to 15x16 "Drag Me (Away From You)"
Desperation, Baby! (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Death took her sweet time parsing through Chuck's book, meaning Lucifer spent longer than he'd like surrounded by his former vessel, his brother, his son, and a man whose obvious longing made him want to vomit. Instead of returning with his prize, Chuck welcoming him back, he must waste his valuable time playing 'nice; with those he can't stand.
Not that it matters. They don't trust him, each member of this ragtag group of survivors watching Lucifer in shifts. Never leaving him alone.
It's Dean's turn now, and he's driving Lucifer up a wall by doing nothing at all save for broadcasting a never-ending supply of feeling. Can he cut the signal without showing his hand, or put Dean's heart to good use?
Coda to 15x19 "Inherit the Earth"
A Healing Touch/New Experiences (Dean Winchester/Castiel, Adam/Serafina)
Maybe if Cas hadn't abandoned him, he wouldn't have agreed to Adam's offer. But with free will finally theirs, Cas made his choice, and Dean his. Now he has to live with the consequences - even if they are awkward. He won't die from it, certainly.
It's only a massage.
But what Dean doesn't know, is that it's more than a massage. It's healing.
It Feels Real Good (Claire Novak/Kaia Nieves, background Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Jody sent her to Yosemite, and she brings her back. For what reason, Claire doesn't know. But it had better be important, otherwise Claire gave the Dark Figure that stole her happiness another chance at escape. Will Jody's house hold a reason important enough for Claire to let go of the heavy burdens she's been carrying since hopping through a rift into another universe?
Coda to 15x12 "Galaxy Brain"
Through the Door (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Cas tells Sam that Chuck and Amara are here. But how does he know? Sure, he could've felt them land through his grace. But all that time Sam was gone? There was enough there that he could've investigated. They'd need to know where they were anyway, when the time came.
But Cas should've known better. Now wasn't the best moment for a little family reunion, especially when there's so much bad blood it can drown them all. Yet he came, and finally got the audience he always seeked with his father.
Coda to 15x17 "Unity"
Four of Swords (Dean Winchester/Castiel, background Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
The Four of Swords, in the present position, means you don't want to interact with the rest of the world. Because of stress, you need to spend some time with yourself - unhealthy always being 'on'. That the healthiest thing to do is to escape.
Dean might crave escape, but it's not something he thinks he can have. Something he deserves, even. After his and Sam's most recent hunt, this cancerous feeling has grown heavy and weighs him down. He cannot escape on his own, as best he tries.
Luckily a guardian 'former angel' angel swoops in at his lowest. Helps pick up the pieces as best he can and lovingly put them back together. But he can only do so much. The rest is up to Dean.
Can Dean take those final steps, say those final words, and finally free himself?
i’d like to teach the world to sing (Dean Winchester/Castiel, Castiel/Others, WIP, 10 out of 15 chapters posted so far)
Mar del Vista, California - 1972
The groovy counterculture that dominated conversation in the past few years still clings to the landscape, floating around like smoke off a burning joint. Changed by the fires of war, Manson, and life into something new. Less trusting, optimistic, and innocent.
Cas is just one of many disillusioned hippies, saddled with a general distrust even before the movement self-imploded. Wary of about everything. Perfect for his line of work, where what's on the surface might not match the truth underneath. It's not an easy life, but he's comfortable with how it goes. Coasting until he hears a case he has no business accepting. For one, it's about a missing teen. And another, it's personal.
Except Jack's disappearance, like every other case he's worked, isn't so cut and dry. Like a rock skipping across a then-placid lake, the ripples stretch far and wide. Those waves slamming at Cas; of cops, federal agents, hippie cultists, and a certain green-eyed detective who's a little too interested in Cas's investigation.
Will Cas find Jack? Or will he drown in the tides.
Checkmate (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Billie saves Jack from suffering a fatal end from her plan, and knowing Jack was safe gave Cas space to focus on his own troubles. Nearly losing his son again... revelations from Chuck... choices Dean made, were set on, until Sam broke through at the last minute - too close - they all were...
It was too much. Cas needed to digest these roiling experiences away from faces it hurt to look at. Except he stumbles exactly where Chuck wants him. After countless times praying for guidance, Chuck finally decides now is perfect for a long-awaited heart-to-heart.
Coda to 15x17 "Unity"
Slide (Dean Winchester/Castiel, Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester)
This isn't his day. It's Sam's and Eileen's. But while out on the dance floor, Dean realizes something that forces him to act. Act boldly.
It's not his day, but he cannot push back what's been there all along, dam bursting with no hope or need of rebuilding itself. He has to say something to Cas.
Why? Because it's Electric... boogie woogie woogie
(Inspired by the Suptober Day 9 prompt - Electric)
Unwrap Me (Dean Winchester/Castiel)
Dean never thought he would make it this far. Nor would he have as many wonderful things that he has now. A home, friends, family, and most importantly love. With a former angel.
Given how normal his life is now, Dean decides he wants to go all out celebrating Christmas. Parties, feasts, and the perfect presents. He wants to get Cas something that will translate everything that resides in his heart. Dean believes he has the right gift, but decides against leading with it. Instead surprising Cas with it after showing him his Christmas best.
Although, during his entire time planning Cas's present, he never wondered what Cas got him...
Disappointment is temporary, but creativity is eternal 🥂 to more fanworks in 2021!!!

i know i should never write screenplays because i love listening to exposition dumps so much if the actor is entertaining,, like i can listen to people for hours,, even if it’s something i have no interest in (like a 2 and 1/2 hour long video essay on rwby, a show i have never seen and never plan on seeing) and i think that’s also why i like loki so much

A Selective Rewrite of Episode 12
Hey all! I know I’ve been pretty quiet the last couple of weeks, at least as far as my own posts have been concerned. I sort of allowed my school work to get away from me and had some catching up to do (*cough* still not caught up *cough*). But considering we still have yet to get a satisfying explanation for the creative decisions made throughout volume 7 for Qrow and Clover (especially in episode 12) I thought I’d put this one out here today.
Full disclosure, this post was supposed to come at the end of my “What Went Wrong” series, but the ideas for it keep rattling around in my brain and I need to get this out. (Also, sincere apologies for being so late on Part II of that series. It is coming, I promise. Writing up something like that takes a lot of time and effort.)
The whole point of the “What Went Wrong” series was to tweak the writing in episodes 1-11 so that episode 12 felt less detached from the rest of the volume.
The point of this rewrite is the opposite, in that I want to showcase one way in which episode 12 could have been written while maintaining the integrity of the writing in the rest of volume 7. With that in mind, here are my goals for it:
Avoid character assassination (i.e. keep everyone in character throughout the situation)
Maintain the relationship between Qrow and Clover
Acknowledge the “Lawful or Good” arc Clover was set up for throughout the volume
Still have it end with Clover’s death. I do this under the desperate assumption that Clover’s death is absolutely necessary plot reasons in volume 8.
A few things to note before I get started.
Firstly, I will be focusing exclusively on the events between Clover, Qrow, Robyn, and Tyrian. I had very few qualms with the rest of the episode.
Secondly, I have some very little experience writing screenplays, but keeping to the strict format of one would be absolute hell on this site. I’m going to do my best to encase character action, scene notes, etc. in [brackets] and character dialogue will be indented in quotations, but that’s about as formal as it’s going to get. So don’t look at this as a model for a professional screenplay. It won’t be and my own voice will probably creep in now and again for commentary or what have you.
Thirdly, not a lot of changes in the first part of the scene. Apart from a few tweaks, I thought it was fine. But the alterations will become far more noticeable as things progress and the ending, even with Clover’s death, will be drastically different.
[The scene opens the same way it does in canon with the black screen and Ruby’s VO repeating the lines about Ironwood abandoning Mantle. Then we’re in the transport ship with Clover, Qrow, Robyn, and Tyrian. For continuity’s sake, though, the camera work from the end of episode 11 is somewhat mirrored. Ruby gets cut off, within that wide-angle shot in episode 12 Robyn and Qrow look up at Clover, and then the camera cuts to Clover alone. We get to revisit his shell-shocked expression and the camera lingers on him while Robyn delivers her line.]
Robyn: Declaring martial law? We cannot let him do this. (oisl = original in-show line)
[With the camera still on Clover, we get to see him make the conscious effort to close himself off. The conflict in him gets pushed aside and his expression hardens. It’s clear here that he’s going to fall back on his loyalty to James, at least at first. This bit in the show was fine. I had no problem thinking that would be his initial response.]
Clover: Ms. Hill, I’m sure the General understands the enormity of his-- (oisl)
[Clover’s scroll beeps and cuts him off. He pulls it out, looks at it, and sees the orders to arrest Qrow. A shot of his face shows a flicker of emotion, something hesitant and sad. When he stands, his movements are heavy. Qrow sees him, and his own expression shifts into one of concern and confusion.]
Qrow: Clover? (oisl)
[Clover sighs and hesitates only slightly before approaching him. He doesn’t look happy but he does keep eye contact with Qrow and his posture is stiff.]
Clover (resigned, shut down): Qrow, I have orders to bring you in.
Tyrian (laughing): A free ride and a show. (oisl)
Clover: There’s also an alert out for Team RWBY’s arrest. (oisl)
Qrow (worried, scared): What? Has James lost his mind? (oisl)
Robyn: He’s trying to stop anybody who might get in the way of his inhumane plan. (oisl)
[Robyn stands and approaches Clover, engaging her weapon and pointing it at him. I also didn’t have much of a problem with this. At least Robyn had the precedent of being a bit impulsive.]
Robyn: Looks like he underestimated me. Again. (oisl)
Clover: Only Qrow is under arrest. After everything we’ve been through tonight, please don’t make me arrest you, too. (oisl)
[Robyn’s face hardens and she readies an arrow. Clover looks sad and disappointed, but he does still pull out Kingfisher. Qrow stands and gets in between them.]
Qrow: Knock it off, both of you! We’re not doing this. Not with him here.
[Qrow points at Tyrian who is sitting on the bench grinning at them. Robyn and Clover seem to remember exactly where they are and they lower their weapons.]
Qrow (to Robyn):  Let’s get up to Atlas and we can talk to James personally. Maybe there’s something we’re missing.
[Robyn does not look happy about that. Qrow turns to Clover, expression hurt. He holds out his hands and takes a step towards him.]
Qrow: I’m not resisting.
[Clover doesn’t move right away. His resolve visibly cracks, giving us another glimpse at his internal conflict. He puts Kingfisher away, his hand shifting to the bolas on his hip, though he doesn’t actually make any move to put them on Qrow. Instead, he looks painfully torn.]
Clover: I don’t want to do this.
Qrow: Then don’t.
[A tense moment passes between them where neither of them moves and we’re not entirely sure what’s going to happen. Then, with the camera focused on Qrow, Robyn shifts back into the scene over his shoulder. She moves towards the door on the side of the ship.]
Robyn: If you want to hand yourself over, that’s fine. I’m going back to Mantle.
Clover: Ms. Hill, if you leave this transport, I can’t guarantee that someone will--
Robyn (vicious): I’m not asking for your guarantees. I should have known better than to trust you. You never cared about Mantle.
Clover (moving towards her): Robyn--
[Robyn lifts her weapon again and points it at him. Clover stops.]
Robyn: Back off, Clover. I won’t ask again.
[She reaches back for the door latch and pulls it to open it, but at that moment, the ship lurches. They all look up to the front of the ship to see Tyrian with the pilot’s hat on, laughing maniacally and clearly trying to crash the plane. Clover pulls Kingfisher out and launches the hook at him, but a bit of bad luck comes into play and it misses him, piercing the ship’s console or the windshield instead. Tyrian laughs, throws the plane into a nosedive, and all four of them are inside when it hits the ground.
Clover comes to first. He is lying in the pile of snow that got pushed in through the open side of the plane. Kingfisher is next to him but it’s broken, the line and hook having been ripped out of it by the force of the crash.  He looks around and spots Qrow at the back of the ship, unconscious.
Placing a broken Kingfisher back on his hip, he crawls over to Qrow and checks his pulse. He lets out a small sigh of relief when he finds it.]
Clover (gently): Qrow. Can you hear me? I need you to wake up. Come on, wake up.
[After a beat, Qrow moans. His eyes flutter open and his face contorts in pain. Clover is visibly relieved.]
Clover: Are you hurt anywhere?
Qrow (voice tight with pain): My side.
[Clover quickly lifts his shirt and checks him, and basically has an “oh shit” reaction. There is deep bruising on Qrow’s side, suggesting some internal injury.]
Clover: Your aura’s broken.
Qrow (has his own oh shit reaction and then looks at Clover): Are you--
Clover: I’m fine.
Qrow (looking around the wreckage): Where’s Robyn?
Clover (darkly): Where’s Callows?
[They share a look that says they both know this is very bad. Clover sits back on his knees and Qrow tries to push himself up to recline against the wall of the ship, one arm wrapped around his middle. Clover reaches up to activate his earpiece.]
Clover: This is Clover requesting immediate emergency aid. Our ship went down and at least one of our party requires medical attention. (pause for a beat). Callows is unaccounted for.
[Several beats pass and Clover’s hand falls heavily back into his lap, implying a lack of verbal response.]
Qrow: Do you think they got it?
Clover: I don’t know.
[Clover stands and rifles through an overhead compartment in the ship. He shakes out a blanket and wraps Qrow in it. With a broken aura, Qrow has no defense against the cold. Then Clover looks around until he finds Harbinger near the front of the plane. He gets it and brings it back to Qrow, setting it beside him.]
Clover: I’m going to go look for Robyn. If Callows comes, shoot him.
[Qrow laughs a little and lays Harbinger across his lap. Clover takes the bolas off his belt and Qrow gives him a disbelieving look, thinking they’re for him.]
Qrow (flatly): Are you serious right now?
Clover (sets the bolas down in Qrow’s lap with a small smirk): In case shooting him doesn’t work.
[Clover stands and turns to go. Qrow catches his hand, prompting Clover to look back at him. This moment is weighted and intimate, expressions conveying concern for one another.]
Qrow (serious): Be careful.
Clover (reassuring): I’ll be right back.
[They let go of one another and Clover leaves. Qrow changes Harbinger into its shotgun form in preparation.
Scene change to outside. Clover climbs out of the ship and looks around the tundra. The shot establishes how far away they are from Mantle, how isolated they are, and finally pans over to some wreckage a little ways from the main part of the ship. Clover runs over and finds Robyn in the debris. He checks her pulse and is again relieved to find one.]
Tyrian (from behind): Well, well. That worked out better than I thought.
[Clover stands and pulls Kingfisher out, extending it to its full length. The camera makes sure to focus somehow on the warped end and frayed line. Tyrian notices the damage to the weapon and grins.]
Tyrian (sing-songy voice): Divide and conquer, as my Goddess says. There were three. And now there’s just you.
Clover: Tyrian Callows, surrender now and things will go much easier for you.
Tyrian (with a sinsiter laugh): Oh, I have something much more fun in mind.
[He engages his weapons, but instead of going for Clover, he runs for the rest of the ship. Clover’s expression shifts into one of pure panic.]
Clover: Qrow!
[Scene change to Qrow in the ship just as Tyrian runs through the door. Qrow is somewhat ready for him. He throws the bolas at Tyrian’s legs. Tyrian dodges but the bolas do force him to change his trajectory so he can’t land a direct hit on Qrow. Qrow shoots at him and manages to fend him off long enough for Clover to get there.
I’m not overly good with detailing fight scenes, so I’ll just try to give the broad strokes here.
Clover gets Tyrian out of the ship and engages him out in the open. Qrow drags himself to his feet and goes to the opening of the ship where he focuses on taking shots at Tyrian whenever Clover is far enough away from him to do so. Clover holds his own against Tyrian, but with Kingfisher broken, he’s at a severe disadvantage. He eventually takes a hard hit that shatters his aura. Tyrian is about to close in on him when Qrow takes another shot, having moved much closer. Tyrian turns and goes after Qrow instead. The altercation is extremely brief. With Qrow’s aura broken and his injury, Tyrian only has to land a single hit to get him to go down. Harbinger gets knocked from his hand in the process. Off to the side, Clover gets back to his feet. Qrow tries to reach for Harbinger but Tyrian gets to him and steps on his wrist, putting a blade to his throat. Qrow glares up at him, defiant. A moment passes in which Tyrian grins at him and Qrow’s expression shifts from defiant to confused to horrified. Just as Qrow begins to comprehend Tyrian’s plan, Clover comes up behind Tyrian to attack him. Tyrian turns, blocks with his wrist weapon things, while simultaneously grabbing Harbinger with his tail (it’s been established that his tail is that dextrous) and using it to kill Clover.]
Qrow: No!
[Clover falls to the ground. Qrow’s expression is one of horror. He tries to stand but can’t quite get to his feet.]
Qrow (to Tyrian): I’ll kill you! (oisl)
Tyrian: You mean like you just killed Clover? (oisl)
[Overhead, the ships that Clover called for are arriving. Tyrian grins and throws Harbinger a few feet away.]
Tyrian: I’d love to stay and watch, but you know my history with the authorities. Until next time, Qrow.
[Tyrian turns and sprints back towards Mantle. Qrow watches him go for a moment, furious, and then he crawls over to Clover. Maybe he even takes off his cape and tries to staunch the bleeding.]
Clover: Qrow...
Qrow: I’m here. The ships are coming. All you have to do is hold on.
Clover: I’m so sorry.
Qrow: Don’t. Don’t do that. Just... Stop talking. You’re not dying out here.
Clover (gently): Qrow.
Qrow (fierce): No!
[Qrow visibly struggles to hold himself together.]
Qrow (pleading): Please stay.
Clover (softly): I wish I could.
[Qrow breaks and starts to cry. Clover looks over and sees the sun rising. Then he looks back to Qrow and smiles.]
Clover: I’m glad I met you.  (If you want to be cheesy, you could even go with “I’m lucky I met you.”)
[The light fades out of his eyes and he’s gone. Qrow screams in agony.
End scene.]
There you have it. The only thing missing is Qrow’s promise to get vengeance on James, but that motivation could easily have been communicated in episode 13 with little more than some strategic camera shots, the fact that Qrow has Clover’s pin, and Qrow’s expression turning from one of sorrow to one of rage as they approach Atlas. Seriously. He could have looked out the front window, seen Atlas Academy, closed his hand around the pin, and gone from looking numb to looking pissed. That’s all that would have been needed.
No one had to step out of character for this to happen. The relationship that CRWBY worked so hard to build between Clover and Qrow throughout the volume, whether you saw it as romantic or not, would have been maintained. And the end result is still the same: Clover is dead and Qrow is framed for it.
Really not that hard.

Hi! I was curious where you got the script in your post on the Oscar and Salem dialogue scene in V8C4. Is there a place online for RWBY’s scripts? I’m an aspiring screenwriter and enjoy breaking down differences is screenplays in original drafts and what is i the final shot.
Yo, that's cool as shit! I got it from eddyrivas on twitter! He had a couple other script bits in the tweet too!!
Good luck screenwriting dude!!

This might be a bit of a long one. So lets start with the first two individuals. So Chloe was one of Monty’s friends and was part of what Shane called "The Montourage" in the letter (in fact the next three are also a part of it). She also called out Burnie whom in a deleted tweet gave sole praise to the VAs in regard to RWBY. Here she is cosplaying Weiss with Kris Nguyen, who we’ll get to in a bit, and Akesesu, another one of Monty’s friends that retweeted the letter when it came out. Johnny Junkers is another one of Monty’s friends and also made Weapon props for RWBY cosplays, You can read his work here as Monty gave him detailed references so the props can be as accurate as possible.

http://junkerscosplay.blogspot.com/2014/03/rwby-sun-wukong-ala-2014.html
Chloe, Johnny, Kris, and Akusesu  are all in the volume 1 special thanks. Akesesu and Johnny are in the volume 3 special thanks.
The next person is Kris Nguyen who was a concept artist for volume 1, the art director for volume 2, and a concept artist for volume 3. They encouraged people to read the letter while advocating to not see RT in a negative light. Years later during the Mica Burton scandal they would also mention having concerns while working for them that they've been trying to brush under the rug.
The last person is J.J Castillo, voice for Mercury in volume 2 and worked on RT recaps, along with being a podcast host for discontinued podcast Screenplay. Now J.J was both used and tossed aside by fans when the letter came out. He was used to attempt to discredit Shane, as fans accused Shane of lying by saying J.J was fired (he never said that and merely expressed shock that J.J was not voicing Mercury anymore). J.J was tossed aside by fans as, instead of focusing on J.J saying that he left because he “was unhappy with what was  being done and how people were being treated.” or that he “felt pressured and bullied” by RT, fans latched on that he left because he wanted more money and dismissed him as being greedy. His frustration is even more understandable due to tweets from last year where he revealed that, as an RT employee, he was not paid for voicing Mercury in volume 2.
other people that retweeted the letter/voiced support include Dillon Gu, an animator for volume 3, Sheena Oum, Monty’s widow who was in the special thanks for Volume 1 and 2, along with being in additional voices for volume 2, Here’s some more stuff regarding her possible involvement.
Another person who said it was true while also telling the community to remain calm was Kathleen Zuelch, who was the supervising producer for volume 1 and the voice actress for Glynda Goodwitch. They would later express their frustration about their time their.
links: 1 2 3 4
Obviously, it could have been better handled better on her part, but RT has also been accused of misogyny and nepotism
Misogyny 1 2 3
Nepotism 1 2

RWBYVamped: Russel Thrush’s Introduction Scene
EXT. BEACON ACADEMY — MAIN CAMPUS
Ruby walks into the scene to find a green haired boy lying on the grass with his arms and legs spread out. However, his eyes are opened. Ruby bends her body forward to look into his eyes.
Ruby
“Are you oka-”
Russel
“I’m okay. Yeah.”
The teenaged boy gets up.
Russel
“Sorry about that. Did you think I was dead or something?”
Ruby
“Not… really?”
Russel
“Whatever. Anyways…”
He puts out his hand.
Russel
“Name’s Russel. Russel Thrush. What’s yours?”
Ruby shakes his hand.
Ruby
“I’m Ruby Rose.”
Russel
“Cool name. I don’t meet a lot of Rubys.”
Ruby
“Thanks.”
Russel
“Lookin’ for teammates, right?”
Ruby
“Yeah.”
Russel
“You seem pretty useful. You fight with that thing?”
Ruby
“What thing?”
Russel
“The scythe. You fight with it?”
Ruby
“Oh, yeah! I made it myself.”
Russel
“Shit, really?”
Ruby
“Yeah!”
Russel
“How good are you with that?”
Ruby
“I’m super good!”
Russel
“Prove it then.”
Ruby
“Alright then!”
Ruby enables her Crescent Rose and starts swinging it around.
Ruby
“Wanna have a duel?”
Russel
“Oh, no, sorry. I wasn’t looking for a fight.”
Ruby
“Oh, my bad.”
Russel
“No need to apologize. Just wanted to see how skilled you were at slicing the air, or whatever.”
Ruby
“O-Okay.”
Russel
“If you’re wondering why I was on the grass, I’m exhausted.”
Ruby
“Really?”
Russel
“Yeah. I guess. It’s a weird thing, but during the nights where you’ll be outside of the academy camping, sleeping on the ground is a useful habit to get into.”
Ruby
“Isn’t the grass kinda itchy though?”
Russel
“Even so, desperate times mean desperate struggles. Who knows if you’ll be staying in a forest without a tent? Actually, I think they have a few meditation classes here that can help with that.”
Ruby
“Was that what you were do-”
Russel
“I wasn’t meditating, no. I was just tired.”
Ruby
“Okay. I’m not gonna ask anymore then.”
Russel
“Y’know, if you’d like, maybe later today we can spar each other. I actually made my own weapons as well.”
Russel takes out his daggers.
Ruby
“For real?! What are their primary functions for combat?!”
Russel
“Gomorrah is very dust heavy and many of it’s functions are useful as projectiles, while Sodom is more based around close combat, especially useful when you lace it with poison. That’s sort of the basic gist of it.”
Ruby
“That’s really cool! Double-wielders usually give both of their weapons the exact same functions, but you actually made them different.”
Russel
“I kinda wanted to give both of these daggers their own identities. Plus, it makes their usage a lot less predictable during combat.”
Ruby
“That’s awesome! When I was making Crescent Rose, I was thinking about making it into two different scythes as well, and each of them would’ve had their own separate functions.”
Russel
“Crescent Rose? That’s the name of your scythe?”
Ruby
“Yeah! Do you not like it?”
Russel
“It’s a great name, what are you talking about? It’s way better than whatever the hell I gave my weapons.”
Ruby
“Sodom and Gomorrah aren’t bad names for weapons.”
Russel
“I mean, they really don’t hold a candle to Crescent Rose, I can confidently assure you.”
Ruby
“Eheh. I… guess so.”
Russel
“Anyways, you looking for teammates, right?”
Ruby
“Yeah! I was just kinda walking around and stumbled across you lying on the ground.”
Russel
“It’s chill. If you need to find HITs to get buddy buddy with, you should find as many of them as much as possible before initiation begins. Besides, I kinda wanna get some sleep before the assembly begins today.”
Ruby
“Oh. Did I distra-“
Russel
“Don’t feel bad if you distracted me or anything. But if you’d like to be a teammate of mine, feel free to keep in touch. If you’d like, I could probably give you one of the ever changing, randomized, teammate finding initiation challenges that they give us.”
Ruby
“Really?”
Russel
“I kinda know the ins and outs of this place a bit and if I can get word from a very lenient staff member, I can probably give you some details.”
Ruby
“You’ve been here before?”
Russel
“I’m good buddies with a graduate and he’s given me the opportunity to spend a night here once. I’ve yet to see Beacon during a stormy day, though.”
Ruby
“Alright. Um… anyways. I’ll be looking for other people, and… maybe I’ll catch you later.”
Russel
“You too, Ruby. I’d like to see you kick ass out there.”
Ruby
“You too, Russel. You too.”

The Goliath in the Room
Honestly? When I finished the finale for this volume of RWBY, my pretty quick reaction was, ‘This doesn’t feel like a finale, it felt like another episode.’ I was pretty disappointed when I realized this.
So, the first volume gave us a mystery about Cinder to gnaw on. Volume 2 gave us Penny’s mysterious origins. Volume 3 gave us Penny, Pyrrha, and Ozpin’s deaths, the breakup of Team RWBY, the formation of Team RNJR, a new quest, Yang, Weiss, and Blake each started new character arcs, and we also got Taiyang. It completely changed the context of the show, upending the status quo. Volume 4′s finale gave us the Nuckalevee fight with its clever action and the resolution of Ren and Nora’s character arcs, as well as the second phase of Yang, Weiss, and Blake’s character arcs. Volume 5 gave us the resolution to the Haven macro-arc, the Relic, and Yang got to finally confront her mother over her abandonment - something that’s been an issue for her since the Yellow Trailer. We also got Jaune’s semblance and the mystery of Cinder’s fate.
For Volume 6 we got Ruby using her silver eyes again on a big monster (something we saw before during Volume 3, and again earlier in this volume), the reveal of Summer Rose in the maya engine (cool? She’s still presumably dead so I’m just kind of meh about it), and the party made it to Atlas. And Salem got a new Grimm.
What happened this volume? Like, this is me seriously being confused. What happened to cut the finale so short? What happened to turn a 14 episode volume into 13 regular length episodes? Why was the finale so lackluster? We didn’t see anything that changed the paradigm of the show, no characters really changed, we didn’t get any resolution except, ‘We traveled to a new place.’ Ruby using her silver eyes is not new, nor is the revelation that she remembers a lot of the emotions of her life to use them (we’ve literally seen this before - it was exposited to us earlier this very volume). What happened...?
I don’t really feel much from this volume aside from just... confusion. And more than a little disappointment. The Leviathan was marketed to us (in the last week) as a huge threat, but they kill it in one go with one plan, before it does more than destroy a steeple. Yay? The whole mess with Cordovin is just handwaved away without really acknowledging that, Yes - it was the Party’s Fault for starting it and Cordovin has little reason to let them through. What is the tension of Ruby using her silver eyes if Cordovin just marches over immediately and finishes it off? What is the tension of introducing the horde of flying Grimm if they don’t even bother with the city of helpless civilians? The people were just standing there watching - there were no shields in the sky, there’s little reason the flying Grimm even really needed to be there. They don’t do anything except distract the other flying ships that can’t do anything anyways.
I just... I’ve said it before, the screenplay of this volume in its latter half has really been kind of a mess. Not thought through and really wonky decisions being made, my bottom line is that this doesn’t feel like a finale. There were no real setbacks, no paradigm shifts, not really much save a location change.
And that kind of sucks. My last feeling of the volume shouldn’t be, ‘Well, glad that’s over with. Time to go play some minecraft or something.’
