#rwby vol 7 rewrite
itsclydebitches · 10 months
Note
#greenlightvolume10 but seriously how!? Its RTX and it was not greenlit.
No idea, anon. Like legitimately, I don't know nearly enough about this business to say if general support would make a difference at this point, or if Eddie is calling for something else, or... what.
Honestly though, Vol. 10 still not being greenlit is currently overshadowed by the everything of that epilogue. I am immensely grateful that it wasn't a formal part of the Volume (even though releasing it now raises it to the status of canon in many fans' eyes and its mere existence implies that, if we do get Volume 10, the information in that clip will greatly inform what comes next) because boy oh boy, did I dislike it. That right there is six condensed minutes of RWBY's tendency to rewrite important plot-points and characterization on the fly. Why is Winter guiltily claiming she stayed by Ironwood's side too long when the entire point of Volume 7 was that they all agreed with him, at least when it came to long-term goals? Why has the story forgotten the crucial World Building detail that one of the things everyone agreed on was that telling Remnant about Salem would lead to mass-scale grimm attacks? Now, as we already guessed due to the implications of Volume 9's final image, Ruby's message has only brought super convenient cooperation—to the point of her getting impromptu memorials. Hell, even Raven, the one character defined by her cowardly neutrality, appears to ferry the girls into the city without any arc to explain her presence except, apparently, "The teenager telling me things I already knew but being ~hopeful~ about it has totally changed my tune, to the point of being OOC." Why does Winter get the long-winded speech expressing her sorrow when Qrow, someone who just lost two girls akin to his daughters, walks around laughing and feeling "optimistic"? I get that obviously the clip is very unfinished, but why does Nora have a waaaaay stronger reaction to Team RWBY's return than he does? Why is he thumbing Clover's badge in gratitude when Volume 8 worked so hard to paint him as the villain who (agree to disagree) got himself killed? Meanwhile, I can't say I'm surprised that his depression, rather than getting worse after such a monumental tragedy, has apparently disappeared just like his alcoholism.
Even Vacuo feels like a mess. We left the citizens stranded in the desert getting picked off by grimm, their only potential salvation a city that despises them, specifically, and prizes itself on the kind of survival mentality the Atlas elite are not in a position to emulate (huntsmen aside). We then return to suddenly find new happiness blooming, the Schnees doling out bread with only the occasional snarky remark to contend with. This is partly why I really didn't want that time skip. It's far too easily—as RWBY has done in this clip—to skate over all the conflict it introduced with a, "They got out of that mess somehow" implication.
Also, question: were Maria and Pietro there? I don't recall seeing them, but I've only watched it once. If you're going to produce a things-are-bad-but-not-actually-compared-to-what-the-story-set-up ending that includes character appearances all the way down to the largely inconsequential butler... at least tell us if those two are actually dead or not?

Can I get a timeline on "FRWBY" the fan rewrite project versus "FRWBY" the forced meme? Because I wouldn't put it past RT to be so butthurt about some guy saying "I can do better" and that getting a following that they deliberately tried to hijack a hashtag...
From what I understand, the meme came about with Volume 7 in 2019 and into 2020. I see Murder of Birds with a video titled ‘The #FRWBY Movement’ in November 2019 and Rooster Teeth made a video titled ‘RWBY Talks FRWBY’ a month later in December and then their video ‘FRWBY Teases Ch.9 & Recaps Vol. 7’ a year later in December of 2020.
Fixing RWBY started with the Lore video in March of 2017 and Volume 1 proper in October 2017. By the time the meme came out, Fixing RWBY would be Volume 3 deep.

Woof this one is a doozy! Ruby-centric, and heavy whiterose and prose. smacks chapter this bitch can fit so much TRAUMA
Here have an excerpt! -------- For as long as she could remember, Ruby had loved the colors of red and black. Even before she could walk, she'd always gravitated towards the grimm plushies her sister had lying around. Cute dog-like beowolves in black, red, and bone white. It certainly helped that her hair fell into that same gradient. Black, and blood red. She liked it well enough - but then again, who's to say it wasn't predetermined? Her entire life had been stained in it; these colors of the grimm. The colors of an omen, her uncle had muttered once. The words croaked from cracked lips, with his red cloak in such tatters that pieces came off in Ruby’s hands, as she folded it over his curled body. His head once again lost in a drunken haze, long fingers gripping his flask like it was a hand to hold. Thankfully he was getting better, but the memories still reeked of potation. Omen or not, Ruby always knew she would fight monsters. Whether it was foretold in the colors she bore, or a path carved by her own hands - she knew there was nothing else she'd rather be. She’d always wanted to be the hero in the story, after all. Never the damsel. The damsel never got to do anything fun or cool. Why would she ever want to be someone like that? Well. Turns out being a hero wasn't much better. It'd only been two years, but she missed the ease of being fifteen. She missed how making new friends was the scariest thing in the world. She missed the flutter of wonder that'd been missing since they landed in Atlas. She missed how easy it was to have small crushes. Not that she ever had time for it back then, either. As it turns out, fun and cool things were few and far between during a war. She cherished them when they came, but it seemed like they were always taken away prematurely. Always interrupted by something. Like the grimm. Or something worse.

So in my rewrite of RWBY at the equivalent point in where the series is now:
-Teams RWBY and JNPR would have just graduated from Beacon and become fully licensed Huntsmen and Huntresses.
-Arkos, BlackSun, Weissberg, and Renora would all be fully established canon relationships, Yang would have a developing relationship with her love interest, and Ruby would have just started dating her love interest
-Cinder, Roman, Neo, Mercury, and Emerald would all have had their backstories and motivations explained.
-Adam would have had his backstory explained, just had his major fight with Blake, been usurped as leader of the White Fang, and would just be starting his redemption arc.
-Roman, Mercury, Emerald, and Neo would be anti villains working as a team doing their own thing.
-Raven would have had interactions with Yang, Ruby, and Taiyang and developed her character, as well as having her backstory and motivations explained.
-Penny would have been attending Beacon for almost two in universe years.

Hi! This ask is gonna contain spoilers for Unicorn of War's RWBY vol 8 rewrite, but they do have Ironwood and the girls work together in the end! The start still has him as a somewhat villain (though never doing anything as heinous as what they made him do in canon vol 8) since the writer didn't change vol 7 drastically, but in the second part he just posted they have Ironwood and the girls reconcile with one another and fight Salem together! So yeah, don't worry about James dying a villain or anything, he's alive and well and not a cartoon mustache twirling villain anymore!
Tumblr media
I really appreciate both of these asks! I know its silly to be worried about so getting these asks means a lot. I know its a long watch but when I have some more time I'll try and give it a listen.

I know this is wishful thinking but I hope rwby becomes open to everyone to rewrite and reanimate because vol 4-vol 8 need a rewrite. (ESPECIALLY vol 5, vol 6, half of vol 7 and all of vol 8)
i really don’t think they’re every going to let this show be rebooted or handled by other people, simply because of the sentimentality it has in name & concept to monty. this was his legacy & while his friends might not be handling it in the most respectful way, it was left to them.
the best we’ll have to hope for are fan remakes & aus.

"removing her death would change too much for the story" isn't this a 'rewrite' of rwby? isn't the point to... rewrite the events of what happens in canon? and also... making it so qrow and clover meet way before vol 7 and even get married before the events of the show /isnt/ changing too much of the story? am confused.
Unlike removing Pyrrha's death, which changes the course of the story entirely, having Clover and Qrow be married before the beginning of the show only changes the overall story by a small bit, since at that point they are supporting cast rather than main cast. We're rewriting the show to tweak what's already there, not to create an entirely different story
Pyrrha's death sets up the tone shift for the rest of the series, we also wouldn't want to remove that as it's a reflection of real life events. We can have fun exploring relationships and bringing back side characters, but if the story would be hurt by a change (removing Pyrrha's death), then it isn't worth the risk
Without her death:
Ruby wouldn't have had a strong enough shock to cause her to unlock her silver eyes
Why would team RNJR set out without a clear goal?
The themes of "We can live after a great loss" would be completely trashed, and that's one of the most important themes of the show. A tragedy doesn't have to be the end of the story, there is still hope after loss
And from a writing perspective, the cast has grown and grown to be too big to manage and adding another character into the mix would completely change the dynamic of their travels, pave the way for muddier writing with so many characters to keep track of (ex. the volume 5 finale), and overall change the balance of the story
Back on the Qrow and Clover bit, their characters compliment each other in a way that could subtly benefit the story, this is something we have thought about in detail and discussed for weeks before ever making this blog. Their relationship, unlike team RWBY and team JNPR, is not going to be at the forefront of the story. Their relationship is not integral, but it is a fun change to help bring some extra interaction options to the table

Hello ❤️ I hope your keeping safe during these times. I hope you don’t mind me asking but is your RWBY fanfic discontinued? It was really good and I hope it hasn’t ended.😭
Hello, hello~! I am doing as alright as anyone can really be during, well, *gestures to world on fire*. ‘Lost Parallax’ is not discontinued and I haven’t given up on it. As much as I feel silly to admit it publicly, I’m having some creative hardship over it (among other projects). Not being satisfied with the writing and such, so I’ve been rewriting/editing a lot. I try not to be a perfectionist, since I would accomplish nothing if everything had to be perfect, but I also don’t like posting work I’m not in some way happy with. Though, now that the vol. 7 sound track came out, I’m hoping listening to that on endless, obsessive repeat will be exactly the push I need to finally make some real progress. Thanks for sending me a message! I appreciate it! <33

Hey remember when Soku said he was gonna stop talking about RWBY?
Guess who got caught lying?
https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/184748210112/phazonfire-the-rwde-tag-is-so-fucking
I don’t know what tag you’re looking through about the homophobia thing considering the majority of the people seem to be gay and would probably call you out if they saw this.
I don’t remember you guys ever calling anyone out for calling Illa a ‘psycho lesbian’ because villain + gay = psycho lesbian apparently.
Oh wait, which tag is it that says that? hm...
Look people doing rewrites on the series is a non problem, and the dumbest gripe.
so is 99% of what you fuckers pull. Like bitching that a catgirl was put into a catsuit.
But rwby isn’t well written some is allowed to watch it to fix it to reconstruct or deconstruct it there is no harm to this and the series could benefit from a rewrite.
Too bad you assholes break the show EVEN FURTHER when you do rewrite shit *cough* RE:RWBY *cough*.
If you don’t like it don’t go through the constructive criticism tag just to cry cause someone doesn’t wanna kiss rwby’s butt like you do.
Last time constructive criticism existed in the RWDE tag: 900 BC.
Yeah sure.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/612590859661295616/your-idea-of-nit-picking-is-not-the-correct-use-of
I don't know how to tell some of ya'll that just because you constantly argue against criticism and the other person gets tried to talking to a brick wall doesn't mean you win.
This ain't your preschool, this requires critical thinking skills which some of ya'll clearly lack.
And just because you reject facts and demand that your delusions are true doesn’t make the other person a brick wall. You just don’t understand how to debate.
Your idea of nit picking is not the correct use of the term. Nor do whoever you are know what is and isn’t criticism on a subject.
Nit picking. Noun. “looking for small or unimportant errors or faults, especially in order to criticize unnecessarily.“
Literally all you do.
Also I’m only an asshole to people who are assholes back. So don’t pretend like you know me and mind your own? Deal? Deal.
Sorry Soku, that makes you a sexist, racist, transphobic Nazi. You know, since that’s MY Modius Operandi.
Also your blog is FILLED with bad political takes so you’re  the LAST person I wanna hear tall about “not picking”
“Can white people approiate basic human decency?”
Remember that take on your old blog?
Now what were you saying about politics...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/611875463897497600/i-didnt-watch-vol-7-thank-god-but-a-friend-of
I didn’t watch vol 7 thank god,-
So you have no idea what you’re about to say? Got it.
but a friend of mine on my discord mentioned flynt and neon returning (with Ik finally) and boy they really gave the catgirl a hoodie with cat ears on it? And Blake has a catsuit? Miles, Kerry, Shane and Monty always talked about how “subtle” they are with things like scenes and designs and they put both the catgirls in outfits that are so on the nose it might as well be a part of your skin.
Where was that said again?
Also that;s not were the term catsuits come from.  It comes from cat burglars using them.
Isn’t that like going “Hey black guy put these big lips on over your other lips? Or the black guy having a fucking basketball printed on their jacket?” Good lord, in a world where people can be born with cat ears, and tails don’t you think it’s kinda freaking disgusting that these exist where humans can wear them?
And before you say that’s the point, in a world where none of the faunus get to say how they feel about these things and don’t have real life minority reactions to things like white dudes walking around with grills and fros and crap it kinda isn’t when the faunus girl wears a hoodie depicting one of the features of her own race that they were hunted down and slaughtered for.
Considering that it’d be no different than a white person getting cornrows-
Also it kind of is since black people walk around emphasizing their DARK SKIN, which is the basis of their discrimination.
You’re just race obsessed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/611637391064694784/hmm-funny-that-the-rich-white-girl-who-was-racist
Hmm funny that the rich white girl who was racist gets an overpowered semblance that shares alot of feats like her team like being able to make runes that increase speed, Platforms, Remove gravity, shoot projectiles, Make people stick to them etc etc. Oh and she has the ability to summon monsters that show feats of strength that rivals one of her partners.
Meanwhile the minority character is shown to fuck up alot, gets treated like shit and never gets an apology from said racist, get nerfed constantly, have her weapon poorly sautared back together while the rest of her team gets upgrades and has the weakest semblance of the three.
Seems alittle off white writers.
And who has the better fight record than the other?
... The minority?
Hm, seems off black complainer.
Oh did that sound racist? Hm, dunno why it sound considering you said the SAME THING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/611636922643857408/so-let-me-get-this-straight-vol-7-has-ended-and
So Let me get this straight, vol 7 has ended and apparently they lost the one relic they had, still haven’t found the newer one or did but still have to deal with Ironwood and several others. Cinder is still alive, Neo is siding with her out of fear? When she wanted vengeance and could team up with rwby.
this is volume 7 of supposedly 10 so three more seasons and they still haven’t sat down and talked about what they’re supposed to to against the immortal grimm lady, they don’t know where the relic at beacon is and ozpin’s still ghosting them, and they’re foolishly gathering them all in one spot instead of taking the maiden and the relic and putting both of them on the farest corners of the planet? I thought they were going to atlas to meet with someone Weiss knew as the Anton Sokolov Play dishonored! of their world to build a rocket and send at least one rocket into a black hole and never have an issue with Salem again.
three more seasons and a plan hasn’t even been formed to deal with her or the relics, Emerald and Mercury are doing nothing, Cinder has no goal except to be the new adam and chase the heros and get her ass kicked, Hazel’s doing nothing, The comms are down and we haven’t heard a peep from whoever runs Vacuo, Blake and Ruby have still had barely any interaction, Weiss hasn’t apologized for her racism, We never addressed how and why did Raven appear in Yang’s dreams, Why did ren from shields over his hands and show off feats of strength that rival yangs or his weird ability to sense tyrian? Neo’s eyes changed color when she saw Raven and her teleport ability. Lore Like how semblance, Lien (the money that looks like credit cards but has zero numbers on it work) The examples of agriculture, Flora and Fauna, dust and so on.
A. Haven’t they said it’s more like twelve?
B. Nope, Ozpin’s back. But hey, who needs to actually KNOW what you’re talking about?
C. Can’t do that, don’t know where the Spring Maiden is. Would have known this if you watched Volume 6.
D. They never said that and expressly said they were meeting with Ironwood to get the relic somewhere secure. Gee, that’s the THIRD thing you’ve gotten wrong. Hm...
E.So Soku, how does Quirks affect agiculture? What were the original Quirks like? Who had the first Quirk? What was life like for people when Quirks were uncommon? Hm? Nothing is said?
MHA is shit, SOku said so.
But sure, three more seasons to cram that all in AND a plan and character interaction/Growth and so on, this is a lovely mess of a show.
And as you have shown, you paid attention to 0% of it so how would you know?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So how’s that tar and feather treatment treating you Soku? Because I have so many more ways of humiliating you, happy showcase them as long as you open that bitchy little mouth of yours.
So go ahead and keep posting. It just lets me indulge my sadism without remorse.

So I kinda realised that I hadn’t posted this onto Tumblr... >_> So I’m fixing that.  Hurray? (Also yay for semi rebrand? Those are cool, I guess?) I changed my name because a lot of people know me as Nemiko | NMS now and not by Yangu Fuyu | FY but I’ll still answer to booth. Summary / TIB for those who haven’t read this: This is a AU for Volume 4+ (because Vol 3 hurt me in ways that still do) which I started writing before the Volume 5 run, so some inconsistencies arise from that, but a whole not of NONE inconsistences as well, and I still can’t believe I wrote Oscar as well as I have with just Vol 5 knowledge (AKA he’s a little shit and he knows it and everyone pays the price).
It features a fire threat of a first chapter that I can’t think of how to rewrite to make more sense so....give two chapters a go before you kick it to the curb? I dunno.  Also feat time travel via two Semblance-charged two maidens (thanks Nora) that send Oscar and Ruby to the PVP fight, and they change a whole bunch of stuff and realise half way through that huh, this changes stuff, and we have feels? This currently filters into a fic (book series) that is 225K words, so try not to attempt to read at 3AM if this sounds like the bees knees. Feat me bullshitting my way through a whole lot of stuff (that apparently makes sense) which is limited to, but also not limited to:  1.Time travel.  2.Salem.  3.How “Magic” works before magic was a thing in RWBY.  4.How Scroll’s work when there’s no damn signal.  5.Oscar “I’m a Little Shit” Pine.  6.Qrow “why the fuck can’t I be a bird Fulltime” Branwen. 7.Ruby “I never learnt tact and why do I have butterflies” Rose 8.Stars that totally don’t, but totally have no consequence on the future of this fic that may and may not include live birds and plushies.
Feat art by Blooming | Silveria and Ly because I can’t cry enough over words @silveriaphoenix + @lythecreatorart
And if that doesn’t sound like fun, please don’t click I dunno use common sense? Read the tags, understand that its purely Rosegarden at the forefront. OZcar is like there for what 3 chapters, then he’s Oscar and Ozpin separately for the rest of this fic (book). Arkos and Renora are there but this fic does not primarily focus on them besides HEY LOOK THESE CHARACTERS ARE TOGETHER kind of thing in the background. The fuck knows what the other characters are doing. I was surprised anyone got together in the first place. (which is why it took Ruby and Oscar so long to realise they kinda had feels for each other) Don’t think I missed anything. But there is like 225K words to cover?
I dunno. K’bye. I’m dead.

The future of this art blog:
1) Currently doing Huevember!
2) I’ve got another College Adventures chapter in the pipeline!
3) RWBY Vol 7 is airing! Since we’ve finally gotten to Atlas, I’m gonna start writing RNBW Vol 3 and maybe 4, adding in the new characters and maybe rewriting some stuff, too!
4) Sword and Shield come in less than 2 weeks! Even if I don’t get the games, I’m definitely gonna be drawing a lot of the new Pokemon!
5) I have a new comic series in the early stages of production! To avoid destroying my schedule, I’ll just show it to some of my classmates for beta testing before releasing it in December!
6) This will probably go on my sideblog @bionicletheseries , but I’m working on an creating an original Toa Team! More details will probably be provided in a separate post.

Trying to fix RWBY is hard lol. You'd think 'just give the girls more agency or motivations'. And a lot of small edits could do that. But would they still turn on Ozpin in a horrifying way? You'd have to rewrite vol. 7 so they A) trust Ironwood, or B) explain why they don't trust him. But then you have to decide what Qrow's relationship to Ironwood is, and why he lies/doesn't lie. RWBY is clearly broken but to fix it you have to fix the Ozluminati first. So you'd need a totally new story.
It really is a rabbit hole of, “In order to fix X I need to change Y, and if I change Y that also changes Z, and if Z changes that’s definitely helpful, but it highlights the problem with A we have to tackle now too...” Shockingly, the pieces of a story all interconnect, which is why RWBY’s half-hearted attempts to make changes without tackling the root of the problem - like separating the group but keeping their focus on the same characters, or having Ren give his speech only for others to immediately dismiss his points, etc. - not only fail on their own, but likewise continue to hurt other aspects of the story. Cinder’s backstory doesn’t just have the problem of arriving years too late, but also that its plot is situated within vague, confusing world building. The announcement of Salem’s motivation doesn’t just have the problem of contradicting other parts of the story dealing with said motivations, it also implies unfortunate things about Ozpin and the group’s understanding of their enemy. It all feeds back on itself. RWBY has enough problems at this point that it needs an overhaul, not a piecemeal revision.
Which means I think it’s straight up impossible to have a story now where everything works. Without that revision across the whole series, it’s always going to be a mess looking at RWBY as a “unified” tale. That’s inevitable. BUT it could be a whole lot better moving forward if RT has planned the rest of their story a decent amount, thought through the impact of those choices, and stick to the rules/character arcs they’ve established. Settle Salem’s motivations and stick to it, provide the group with a clear means of undermining her insane power, stick to the core characters without introducing a host of new ones each volume, define what their arcs are and follow them, start a journey of growth for everyone set after Atlas’ (presumed) destruction... As bad as the writing is right now, there’s an incredible amount of potential in the corner our heroes have been backed into. Salem, according to all logic, should win here and decimate them all, though of course from a meta perspective we know the group isn’t going to be killed and the story concluded. So there’s this opportunity to radically change the story after such a catastrophe. Create a clean slate of sorts by giving us a second Fall and writing a different version of RWBY after that horror, much like we did after Volume 3: Here’s the new tone, the new rules, the new character dynamics/journeys... now let’s move forward with those things consistently. It would by no means change how all of this would connect back to (and even create more) problems in past seasons, but at least what we’re getting in the future would be good. I’d love that. Series can go on for a long time, so it would be great if someday we were able to look back say, “Volumes 1-3 were a fun action show that didn’t take itself too seriously. Volumes 4-5 had some neat ideas about how to deepen the story that the writers didn’t quite manage to execute, but there was still a lot of potential. The series took a series dive in Volumes 6-8 BUT the end of 8 really pulled things back together. Volumes 9-X? Fantastic. Love where they took the series in the end. It sucks that it all couldn’t be at that level, but still.”
I’m not claiming that’s going to happen (lol), but it’s possible given the stakes right now and the part of me that first fell in love with RWBY still hopes for it.

My Thoughts on Volume 7 ( forgive me if some of these have been said before ):
🌹- Summer Rose got a full-fledged model, not just a portrait like in the other memories. So, that probably means flashback time for Vol 7?
❄️- Weiss Schnee character arc time? Will we learn more about the SDC and the evils it has hidden? Will we see Weiss grow as a character and be able to finally rewrite the legacy of the Schnee name? Will we see the lovely Klein again? Find out next Volume.
🧡- Neo vs Ruby: Round Two. Personally, I see this going two ways if it happens. Either Neo vs Ruby as an actual fight, then that whole ordeal goes down. Or maybe Neo has another trick up her sleeve? Throw Cinder under the bus, make deals with RWBY, something we would’ve NEVER saw coming? I’m scared of her.
💚- Okay now this theory I’ve seen is very popular: Emerald Sustrai redemption arc. I wonder if she’ll see herself one—and if she does if it’ll happen next Volume. But we will see some character development? I bet so. Let’s just hope that the girl can finally understand the true happenings and survive the hellhole she’s in.
🐝- BEES? BEES??? BEEEEES???????
🌺- I want MY CLOSURE ON THE RED HAIRED WOMAN. WTF ROOSTERTEETH IS GOING ON THERE?!?!
🌸- The Lesbians.
💙- The return of old characters?! PLEASE?! TEAM FNKI CAMEO?!?! IRONWOOD AND MAYBE PENNY 2.0?!?! PLEASE?!?!?!
💜- This one probably won’t happen, but I want the lore on Gretchen and I want it NOW.
All around I really liked Volume 6! Its hype was ALL lived up to! There was so much that was unexpected, so much minor things that just added to the fun, and in this Volume you REALLY felt the CRWBY Writer’s Voice shine through a lot and it was so awesome.
Another thing is Volume 6 is a lead-up to 7, which people didn’t like much for 4 and 5 as it felt like 4 only held up if compounded with 5 ( I wouldn’t know, I watched them back to back ), but 6 stands alone flawlessly AND gets you hype for the next Volume. You’re doing gods work, CRWBY.

Hi there! I know a lot of people who follow me are pretty much here for this fic alone and I just wanted to give a link for newcomers to use.
This is a whiterose and bumbleby fic (no pollination) set right after Vol 6 ends. It originally started as my predictions/theories for what would happen in Vol 7, and now it's turned into something more like... "What would I do if I wrote Vol 7?" (And more of a fix-it fic for the clowns honking sadly in the rain)
I've kinda been floored since the most recent episode of RWBY, because a friend of mine (thank you D) pointed out that the petals/emotion flakes were...very similar to a concept I'd been playing with in AS since early 2019.
It's not an exact thing, obviously, but it's just...kinda really fucking cool that an image/concept I thought of a while ago might actually appear in the show. If I'm bein honest, I'm still fucking shaking over it. It's just so exciting??
Anyway enough of me lmao Here's chapter one if anyone's interested in reading my weird little story, and thank you to everyone who's already checked it out and left kudos/comments - I owe you all my life and I'm working on the next chapter as much as I can before the holidays hit us like a freight train LOL
Love y'all to bits, don't forget to love each other!

Bookshelf Briefs 3/16/21
Blood on the Tracks, Vol. 4 | By Shuzo Oshima | Vertical Comics – The first volume of Blood on the Tracks was suspenseful and shocking and I enjoyed that, but the next two installments were extremely disturbing because they basically depicted a mentally ill mother damaging her son in real time. I debated dropping the series, but decided to give it one more volume, and I’m glad I did. Seiichi finally has an ally, witness, and savior in the form of Fukiishi, his first girlfriend (who has her own shitty parent to contend with) and on the one hand it’s so great to see him finally have someone who knows exactly how terrfiying Seiko is and who gives him the courage to stand up to his mother. On the other hand, we saw what Seiko did to the last person who threatened to lead Seiichi away from her control. What is she going to do to Fukiishi? I’m simultaneously scared and hopeful. – Michelle Smith
How Do You Do, Koharu?, Vol. 1 | By Kanae Hazuki | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – If you’re wondering what you need to know from Say I Love You. to read this, the answer is nothing whatsoever—this takes place years later, and the only common connection is “Koharu” herself (real name Nagi). Instead, the book is a very good look into the life of those who livestream, and how a shared online connection can be unwanted… or scary… when meeting in real life. Especially as Koharu also works as a maid cafe, and has to deal with customers who also want to get up in her space. Koharu isn’t sure what she wants here, and the connections she makes with Shun are tentative. Negotiating modern relationships can be tough, but this looks like another fun shoujo series. – Sean Gaffney
A Journal of My Father | By Jiro Taniguchi | Ponent Mon – Whenever a new volume of Taniguchi’s manga is released in English it’s worth taking note, especially when it’s a lovely hardcover edition from Ponent Mon. The most recent example of this is A Journal of My Father, a quiet, contemplative work that was originally published in Japan in 1994. The story’s premise is simple enough—a man travels back to his hometown in order to attend his father’s funeral—but the characterization in the work is notably complex. After some prompting, Yoichi Yamashita, who has both literally and figuratively distanced himself from his family, arrives in time for the wake. Over the course of the evening, reflecting on his childhood and stories told by others, Yoichi gradually comes to terms with the fact that his father was a much more complicated person than he previously realized. Part historical drama, part family portrait, A Journal of My Father works on multiple levels. – Ash Brown
My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions, Vol. 1 | By Yoko Akiyama and Kohei Horikoshi | Viz Media – Sadly, this ended up being a bit of a disappointment. The premise suggested we’d be seeing a bit of the class that never gets attention, but no, it’s the same old main cast for the most part. It does get a bit better as it goes along. There’s two stories involving Melissa Shield, the original character from the first movie, which give her some nice depth, and also gives her a chance to team up with Mei, who is essentially her Japanese counterpart… though their personalities differ. The best of the team-ups involves Fatgum, Tamaki, Iida and Momo searching all over to try to find the handsome hero who saved a little girl… whose face she can’t quite remember. Could be better. – Sean Gaffney
Spy x Family, Vol. 4 | By Tatsuya Endo | Viz Media – This may be the best volume in the series to date, which is saying something. Yor kicking a car became an instant meme, but I think my choice for top moment has to go to the Handler’s description of what war is really like, in all its gory, violent tragedy. This is not to say that this volume is not also hilarious, be it Loid’s pathetic attempts at excusing himself to go be a spy, Anya’s horrid realization that she can’t read a clock, or everything Yor does in general, this is a winner. As an added bonus, DOGGO! Yes, we get a new cast member, and Bond is not only best doggy but also can SEE THE FUTURE! The series does a wonderful job balancing humor, fake dating, comedy and action equally, and is simply a must read. – Sean Gaffney
We’re New at This, Vol. 3 | By Ren Kawahara | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – The sexy is definitely amped up from the previous volume here. While our lead couple still have not managed to go all the way yet, they’re doing pretty much everything but, especially when Sumika has to change clothes after getting soaked in the rain in Ikuma’s office… and just strips completely naked. (Kudos, by the way, for not going with the standard comedy “someone walks in” here.) Elsewhere, it’s rapidly become clear that the reason that these two are not getting any further is simply that they find each other TOO ADORABLE, and are too busy squeeing to actually get it on. Frankly, if they ever fix that, the series is over, but for now, it’s funny, romantic and erotic in equal measure. – Sean Gaffney
A White Rose in Bloom, Vol. 1 | By Asumiko Nakamura | Seven Seas – Turns out that Nakamura-san can write yuri just as well as she writes BL. Honestly, the main reason to pick this up might be the faces—the artwork on the expressions throughout this volume is exquisite, and yes, I’m including the seemingly “steel” Steph, who slowly gets immersed in the walking disaster that is Ruby. (I almost typed RWBY there, and this would not need too much rewriting to be an AU fic there, to be honest.) There’s also some nice heartfelt emotion here, as Steph already has girls in love with her who are not happy with Ruby, and Ruby’s own home life may force her to leave the school soon anyway. This doesn’t have a volume two out in Japan yet, but volume one is still worth getting for yuri fans. – Sean Gaffney
Witch Hat Atelier, Vol. 7 | By Kamome Shirahama | Kodansha Comics – The majority of this volume is dedicated to Qifrey, his past (much of which is still a mystery to him), and possibly also explains why he was so quick to take pity on Coco for her own tragic experiments. Indeed, Coco’s mother comes up again for the first time in a while, and it’s hinted that she may very well be beyond saving, and that Coco will have to come to terms with that. Still, Coco is the living definition of “take a third option,” as this volume shows, and I think in the end she and Qifrey will be good for each other—even if he still has quite a bit of darkness residing within him. All this and the usual jaw-dropping artwork make me wonder why I waited so long to pick this up from my stack. – Sean Gaffney

I know that maybe I'm late but have you heard about this massive hiatus after rwby vol 8 ep 7? Apparently after this episode, there will be most 2 MONTHS hiatus. I wonder why... Did they not finished vol 8 like they told us before that it's finished and all vol 8 premiere was rushed or did they screw up an ending so massively, that they are so scared to air this because of losing fans, that they have to rewrite a lot of scenes? What do you think? I think hiatus that long is weird...
I think it would be weird if we weren’t in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. Things have been really hard for the last year and, here in the U.S., they’re likely to get worse. Between the winter months and the holidays we’re expected to keep spiking and, with spikes, there (hopefully) will be stricter precautions in an effort to flatten the curve as well as just more cases for families to manage. RT says in their letter that they're already working remotely from home and have had to “work quickly to adapt at almost every stage of the pipeline.” My opinions about their writing aside, I think they’ve managed that amazingly well, with Volume 8 as a whole looking good from an animation standpoint. But as they mention, adapting like that will slow anyone down, the act of working from home makes everything take longer, we’re entering a period of time we know is going to make things that much harder, and there’s that “work/life” balance to think about. A six week break gives them to time to hit the breaks on the insane workload I’m sure they had to adopt to keep a normal premiere date, give them time to finish things in the second half of the volume without keeping that extreme pace, and prep/have time to deal with anything that might happen over the next three months. As the letter says, they’re hoping for a “comfortable finish” as opposed to a crazed one. For example... could I post a fic chapter once a week into next year? Sure. Might I like six weeks to slow down, take a breath, deal with my insane pandemic life, and have the time to finish some of those chapters without having to immediately release them? 100%.
I don’t think it has anything with them changing the ending, nor did I personally hear about Volume 8 being finished, just that it and 9 had been written (though I miss a great deal of RT info). I was shocked going into November that RWBY was premiering as usual, so I’m definitely not shocked that they need the break now. Nothing is functioning as normal and, as I can attest, creative energy is at an all time low. Though long to the fans perhaps, six weeks is going to feel like nothing to RT as a deadline. It’ll be gone in a flash from their perspective.
