i love the Yang/Weiss dynamic just in a friendship sense, like Weiss “queen of everything even the team she isn’t really in charge of but ‘the leader is technically my partner so i have some pull’” Schnee and Yang “I’m her sister so i technically have the same if not more pull than you” Xiao Long always arguing(good naturedly ofc). Tell me that beacon rwby didn’t have prank wars and tell me that it wasn’t just weiss and yang fucking with each other, and also tell me Blake and Ruby didn’t also set up pranks posing as Yang or Weiss to mess with them further
This was my first fandom big bang and I'm so glad I joined, made new friends, became more active with the RWBY fandom, and learned (& hopefully progressed) a lot as an artist.
I had a blast crafting this comic snippet scene from @giraffeseattrees's story, When You Say My Name (I Can Only Feed You Lies)! It was wonderful collaborating with her and I cannot recommend this fic enough :)
I'm truly so grateful for this experience, thanks to everyone who made it possible and of course to my lovely writer!!!
How Oscar's Volume 8 & Ruby's Volume 9 Stories Mirror Each Other
They both "fall" in the previous season's finale.
Point of View Framing when they're both in moments of intense stress.
Hound created by Salem vs. Cat created by Brother Gods as antagonists.
Isolated from their friends and brought right to the enemy's lair (Oscar kidnapped and brought without choice vs. Ruby choosing to leave but finding her way there by chance).
Both having to go a large portion of their respective volumes without their weapons.
Physical torture vs. psychological torture.
Both at the hands of enemies from their past (Oscar V4-5 + Oz's history with Hazel and Salem vs. Ruby V1-3 with Torchwick and Neo).
Illusionist that helps vs. illusionist that harms.
Happy reunion, vs. horrifying reunion
Explosion of gold vs. silver magic when escaping.
"I was stupid to think the General would listen. Every choice I've made was the wrong one, and now-"
vs.
"I just wanted to do the right thing but every step of the way it's like there is no right thing. I tried so hard... and I may have just done more harm than good."
"I started to feel like me. Not the same me I was before all of this, but... the me I always wanted to be."
vs.
"I don't understand who I need to be. Because who I am right now... she's not cutting it."
"Our souls are still on the inevitable path to becoming one." / "But I don't want that." (alternatively: "I'm just going to be another one of his lives, aren't I?" circa v5)
vs.
"What if you could be anyone?"
"She wasn't the same girl anymore."
vs.
"I don't want to be me anymore."
I think theres something really beautiful and profound in what rwby volume 9 says about the concept of 'balance'. instead of two equal forces locked in a neverending conflict, it is the culmination of everything, or 'an ecosystem, an organism, a living breathing thing' that has to find its own equilibrium by everything coming together seeing what works and to culminate into a single, everchanging, yet comfortable and functional being.
Not RWBY of all shows having a more nuanced idea of what balance means than like half of fantasy fiction out there
Next time I see a video game or a movie or a show being all like "light and darkness must keep each other in balance" I'm gonna roll my eyes EVEN HARDER
