Jaune More MC Ruby?
Ruby: That’s why I’m the MC and you're the side character.
Jaune: So because you have silver eyes you’re special?
Ruby: Yep.
Jaune: Even though I cheated Beacon.
Ruby: Yep.
Jaune: I was bullied.
Ruby: Yep.
Jaune: My partner is dead. And because I let my guard down, Ozpin died, and Oscar had no choice but to come on this journey. You know,  because of me.
Ruby: Yep.
Jaune: And because Cinder, who works under Salem killed my partner, I have beef with the main villain and her whole crew.
Ruby: Yeah.
Jaune: Salem, who I have way more in common with than most people, the deemed goddess I’m defying her, just like she did with the brothers over a loved one's death. Are you following me so far?
Ruby: … Yeah…
Jaune: Hazel, who mind you, lost his sister. He lost his sister because of the world Ozpin had created, like I did, with Pyrrha.
Qrow: She had a choice.
Jaune: A few days' choice which turned into minutes when Beacon was attacked. Then discovering how bad the situation is, you know with Salem being immortal, I almost hurt if not killed Oscar, making me at the spur of the moment,  just as bad as Hazel. And mind you I was willing to fight you on that.
Ruby: Uh… yeah…
Jaune: Tyrian, has the opposite to my semblance. Wasn’t he more interested in me than you? And you were his target.
Ruby: Mmhmm.
Jaune: Let’s talk about Cinder again. Cinder had two stray kids who followed her. I have Ren and Nora. Neither have parents. Also, we both want power but for different reasons. We even have different views on destiny.
Ruby: Oh damn.
Jaune: Atlas. Oscar did Ironwood not act like how I did in Argus but worse?
Oscar: Yeah he did. Jaune even saw Salem in person before you did.
Yang: So did we. You saw her face to face.
Oscar: I’m Ozpin. What is that supposed to mean?
Ruby: Oscar, not helping.
Jaune: Neo. We both lost our partners. The difference is that I have friends while she has none. The cat, him, and I almost have the same ability except he manipulates your soul or takes it. He might as well have been a devil version of me.
Weiss: O. Dear lord.
Jaune: Watts. … … … You know what no. He-he was no. Like he could have done better, he’s an example of being smart yet making the dumbest choices.
Weiss: True.
In the Twilight
Watts: What?! My decision was understandable.
Ironwood: No. No, they were not.
Penny: Like you could have logically put your two weeks in and left for another kingdom. Or country. Like Vale. Mistral. Anywhere. You could have helped where you could've been needed. Which would have made you better than my father.
Watts: I wasted my life.
Back to Remnant
Ruby: Um….
Jaune: You know what I have to ask this question. What is the moral of the story and how does your character fit into this?
Ruby: Well my-
Jaune: Let me retort. I lied. I was bullied. I had no idea about anything in the hunting world. I needed a teacher. I lost someone important to me. I have beef with the main villains. I train to get stronger to be of use to others.
Ruby: So?
Jaune: Okay. No one believed in me. But I still went to chase my goal. I lost the best thing in my life. I still moved forward. I had to kill someone. Still moved forward. I’m an old man trapped in a boy's body. Still moving forward. Fighting the odds that are stacked against me. I have seven who no one knows about. Yet your family is more interesting.
Ruby: Your point?
Jaune: The moral of the story is that no matter your circumstance you can always be better. Never allow destiny or grief to influence your entire life. No matter what odds that stand before you,  you can ultimately change your fate. And no matter the darkness a simple soul can light up the night and unite everyone against a greater evil. Even when the whole world is against you, you are never alone to endure it. If we stand united and look past our differences only then the wor;d would be a better place.
Ruby: Well my mom died at Salem’s hands.
Jaune: And?
Ruby: It's still relevant.
Jaune: You're right. But how many times has your mother been mentioned and you bothered to get information about her?
Yang: I-
Jaune: Bitch shut the fuck up. You were looking for the deadbeat mom more than the mom who stepped up.
Ruby: Well um… um…. Damn. Oh, but I-
Jaune: You weren’t the sword. I may not have known Penny as long as you, but the fact, that I could've saved her proved her death hit harder than Pyrrha's. I’m close to walking in Raven’s path.
Ruby: Shit.
Jaune: And back to your mother. She was a silver-eyed warrior. But Salem is still here. Do silver eyes work on her?
Ruby: Um.
Jaune: Because Salem is still both the brothers' creation. The old humanity. She can't be phased by the black liquid even though everything they touch decays.
Ruby: She's immortal.
Jaune: Yeah but again when Maria told you her story didn't she try using her silver eyes on humans and it didn't work?
Ruby: Cinder.
Jaune: Grimm arm.
Ruby: The hound.
Blake: Silver-eyed person too but only stunned them.
Ruby: Blake.
Blake: What a minute he had animalistic ears. Should I be concerned for my people?
Jaune: Yeah… we’re not getting into that. The point is if you go see Salem and your silver eyes don't work then your mom died for nothing.
Ruby: Oo. Um…
Jaune: And let's get back to the other villains. Besides Emerald, Mercury, and Tyrian, some of them have valid reasons to join Salem.
Ren: Jaune!
Jaune: Ren, your village got destroyed.
Ren: Nevermind.
Me: Hold up. Let me start. With Cinder, a huntsman saw what she was going through and didn't bother to help her. She was alone. The world abandoned her.
Jaune: So Hazel was right. In fact, Raven had a point.
Oscar(Ozpin): Mr. Arc I-
Jaune: Motherfucker Hazel had every right to be angry. Dude shadow missions involve us going with experienced hunters. Yet his sister died and Ruby could’ve died. Shadowing them. Following their lead. Does that not show how bad the hunting system is? Not just that we got hunters who died in the line of duty. Not to mention how some were sexually harassing the girls.  And some of them are just plain crazy or assholes. Not to mention Blake, Qrow, and Raven. You let them in. And to make matters worse you chose Pyrrha, a first-year student, to be your maiden.
Oscar(Ozpin): She was my best option.
Jaune: So Glynda wasn't on the table? A high-ranked fourth-year student wasn't on the table? Man, at least you could have chosen Ruby considering she has silver eyes and is a young upcoming prodigy. That would have made her more important. Like Ozpin Ruby off the bat was better than Pyrrha.
Qrow: Hey, I would have stopped that.
Jaune: O, so… it was okay with Pyrrha… but not your niece. I see. Hypocrite.
Qrow: Damn. Set myself up for that.
Jaune: Watts, despite his stupidity, had a point. James would abuse any source of technology just to have some level of control over something. Why did you think he wanted your sister instead of Penny? Why do you think he wanted Amity up as quickly as possible? Why do you think he hacked into Penny? Everything was always about control.
Weiss: Well our lives weren't easy.
Jaune: That I won't deny. Yet we are all still bad people.
Yang: Jaune my mother -
Jaune: Raven and Summer left you. Summer no one cared enough to talk about. Raven doesn't matter at all. Willow waited until her children were teenagers or young adults to start dealing with an abusive father. And Kali… yeah she should have slapped some sense into her daughter.
Weiss: Well your mom doesn't love you.
Jaune: Don't care. Back to Jacque though how does he and James know each other? Why do they have beef with one another? Unless… o. Oh no. Don't tell me. Did James set Jacque up with Willow? And in return, he helps James rise to power. Or did James love Willow but because of his career he couldn't marry her? Could Winter be-
Weiss: Please stop. I do not need those theories in my head.
Jaune: Fine. The point I'm trying to make is… … well how about you explain.
Me: It's crazy how Jaune fits the main character role better than Ruby.

Yas, Salem
Hey peeps!
I was going through my Incorrect Quotes Folder and saw this:
Tumblr media
And immediately thought of Salem and Team WTCH.
This was actually my first time drawing Salem, Hazel, Tyrian, and Watts! I think they all turned out pretty well, too :D
Salem’s axolotl hair thingys were especially fun

why do they look like a dysfunctional family from an early 2010's movie, going on a road trip to spend more time together as a family when they in reality they should have gone to a family therapist instead?

Adam Taurus shares a bad quality with all Salem faction villains.
Hazel. Just like Adam he was forced to join Salems forces. While Hazel later sees that he is on the wrong side of the fight and redeems himself, one thing Adam fails to do, just like Adam, he made himself believed that he was fighting for the right cause in his forced work for Salem.
Tumblr media
Cinder. The main thing that she and Adam shares is their hate for everyone, overconfidence, and entitlement, they both believe they deserve everyone at their feet. Also they have a similar past both were abused when young, just that the fandom likes to ignore this fact for Adam and later on goes on tirades how people that like Adam as a character down play Cinders turn to evil because of her circumstances and how she is a tragic character, but when people that like Adam as a tragic villain say the same about him they are the devil and get screamed at saying no Adam was always evil and not a tragic character him being branded at age 18, that is the oldest possible he could have been when he got the brand and that still is stretching the timeline thin, he could have been as young as 15, does not justify his hate of humans and doesn't make him a tragic character they say.
Tumblr media
Watts. He shares the least similarities between himself and Adam. Both are cocky/overconfident and both succeeded in overthrowing one a company/government, the other a terrorist group, just they do it in completely different ways with different goals in mind.
Tumblr media
Tyrian. Both of them are insane, psychologically unstable individuals that kill without remorse because they believe their cause to be the most righteous. I would believe that Tyrian is Adam spirit animal or vice versa, brothers of different mother these two are.
Tumblr media
Salem. Sadly, Adam doesn’t share a similarity with Salem, it would be cool if he did that would make him have something in common with all of Salems faction, I am not counting the fact both of them have armies of disposable extras at their command as similarity.

Day 9: "Was that today?" [Reader x Arthur Watts] {RWBY}
You were tooling around Salem's home base. It was a little dreary, but as long as you stayed calm the Grim wouldn't bother you and the stone castle was massive. Not that you knew anyone other than Watts and Salem, you weren't even very useful in any sense.
But Watts still insisted he wanted you around...
It didn't feel much like dating, at least not compared to other relationships you'd had. But you weren't the combative type in any situation, so why bother arguing now?
Except, you never could bring up how lonely you felt because Watts usually turned it into an argument. But when he did focus on you it was overwhelming, there was zero middle ground with the man. Leaving you to try to remind Watts of things he promised, only to be shooed out and told not to bother him.
That left you celebrating your birthday alone, like usual...
Until Watts entered your bedroom, if it could even be called a bedroom. Seeing the small attempt from Salem to not being the force that drove you off, he stopped.
"What's this for?" His default sneer never fading.
"My birthday."
Your monotone was laced with the slightest hint of snarky attitude and did not go unnoticed.
"Was that today?" Watts chose to gloss over the uncharacteristic tone, "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I'm tired of being told 'not now' by someone who said he wanted me in his life." You shot, "Not like you act like I matter, I'm just another trophy for you to collect, aren't I?"
"Of course you're not. I am a very busy person [Name]. You should know that better than anyone."
"I do. And that's why I didn't tell you about my birthday."
Watts groaned sharply, he'd walked right into that one. He wasn't used to you arguing back, let alone being able to outsmart him.
"Then why don't we go do something? I'm certain Salem could spare our presence for a--"
"Not now." You laid back across the bed, "I'm tired."

(Ignore the play button-)
So I honestly really like this scene and think it’s pretty good.
However.
Tumblr media
The difference in the size of the general head circles keeps bothering me.
Tumblr media
It gives off the same vibes as this scene to me which is “really good scene but I immediately become distracted by the two different head models making one of the characters look kinda weird when next to each other.”
Weird vibes.

Jaune the Strategist
Jaune: Um… General Ironwood? I have a question.
Ironwood: What is it Mr. Arc?
Jaune: Why not release the video footage of Tyrian killing a bunch of people?
Clover: Are you crazy? If we release such a video it cause panic in Mantle.
Jaune: I hear you. But... isn’t the Atlas military already being framed for countless murders?
Ironwood: Yes.
Jaune: And no one in Mantle is willing to follow protocol because they don’t trust us right?
Ironwood: Well... yes.
Jaune: Okay. So why not use this to our advantage?
Ruby: Explain.
Jaune: I mean come on. Seriously? We have proof. We have video display. And if this has been happening for a while then we have dead bodies that can hold our case.
Ironwood: Mr. Arc, I’m going to need you to further elaboration.
Jaune: What’s there to- Look, Tyrian has been killing people for a while, right?
Qrow: Yeah.
Jaune: We have video proof that he committed the massacre at Robin’s party. We could just report this and clear Penny’s name.
Ironwood: That is true.
Jaune: Plus with the few bodies Tyrian left behind, which I’m hoping your Atlas soldiers investigated completely. Like the time and location of death. As well as how they died. Basically if Tyrian left multiple victims, can’t we compare them to the other corpses from the party.
Ironwood: Huh.
Jaune: Not only that but Tyrian has a poisonous tail. Didn’t some of them have a hint poison consumed or at least small pick to their bodies.
Ironwood: Oh. That is something to consider.
Clover: Okay, but still doesn’t change the fact if we tell the people a killer is on the loose it will cause panic.
Jaune: True. But it could also make people listen. Think about it, they’re already being invaded by grimm everyday. And now they have killer amongest them. Wouldn’t that force them to reconsider they’re options?
Clover: … My… My Oum he could right.
Marrow: Okay but what about Robyn?
Jaune: Mantle’s Champion? Happy Huntresses? Are you serious? Do you honestly think she would not make a killer her top priority?
Marrow: Huh.
Jaune: I’m just saying, why are we keeping this under raps and quickly turning to Martial law?
Ironwood: Wow… anything else Mr.Arc
Jaune: Why frame Penny?
Ruby: She’s the Protector of Mantle.
Jaune: She also a robot. With a human soul. Who recorded everything! Who so far never got hacked? So why her specifically? If anything I would have got Penny out the way and framed one of the Ace-ops. Specifically Marrow. Hell why not frame Robyn herself?
Marrow: Whoa why me?
Jaune: You know why.
Blake: But tell us why.
Ironwood: Damn he’s right. That absolutely makes sense considering he’s a Faunus and recent member of the Ace ops.
Jaune: Exactly.
Blake: Are you two serious?!
Jaune: Blake think about how much conflict that would cause. A faunus in the Atlas military. An Ace operative killed and injured a bunch of innocent people. Humans and faunuses mind you. Not only would that cause division amongest the people of Mantle but the school and the soldiers.
Ironwood: He’s right. We have faunases who attend this school and are apart our units.
Jaune: It’ll be chaos. Racism and Hatred in the air. And with that much negativity the grimm attacks would be sky rocketing to the masses. Screw trying to get Amity Arena up we might as well have focused our time on containment. Hell that would been a better reason to initiate Martial law. Something I think Robyn would agree to. Considering Fiona is a faunus and her teammate.
Ironwood: So basically framing Penny was-
Jaune: A stupid idea? ABSO-FREAKEN-LUTLY!! Who ever made this plan had to be dumb as bricks.
Watts: *sneezes*
Jaune: I’m mean now I might as well ask this question. Has anyone ever disagreed with Penny’s creation?
Ironwood: I mean-… ... actually... yes we had a few people who disagreed.
Jaune: Also if you have a file for Tyrian, then what about Cinder, Emerald, Mercury or Hazel?
Ironwood: Why yes we---- Hold up. You all saw Hazel?
Jaune: Yeah.
Ironwood: And you survived?
Nora: Yes. Though with our tails between our legs. How do you know him?
Ironwood: How do you think I lost half of my body?
Jaune: Damn. And I thought Ren and Qrow had it worse. How powerful is he?
Ironwood: He crippled Ozpin.
Oscar: (And he said he stood a chance. He could’ve killed us both.)
Jaune: (We’ll most definitely need to jump him.) An-anyways, back on topic. So, who out all the other people were against the Penny project? Simply put who hates Pietro the most?
Ironwood: Well… there was Professor Watts.
Jaune: Professor Watts?
Ironwood: He was an inventor as well. He was even to soul creator of the Atlas robots you’re associated with. However he died in accident.
Jaune: How long ago?
Ironwood: Months ago?
Jaune: Okay now that’s weird.
Weiss: So what Jaune? He died.
Winter: Yes but I understand why Mr.Arc is suspicious. In Cinder’s file, after committing four first degree murders she disappeared.
Jaune: Then she suddenly appears back at Beacon with a way to hack the military.
Clover: Tyrian was captured but then escaped and he disappeared as well.
Qrow: Then he came out nowhere and tried to capture Ruby.
Ironwood: Hazel disappeared once too.
Oscar: And then I saw him on my way to Mistral.
Jaune: Is any of this making sense?
Ironwood: Yes. Clover I need you to follow up on some the victims of the previous crimes. And Winter I need you look into Watt’s case. Lets make sure he’s dead. If not we need evidence.
Winter: Yes sir.
Ironwood: Well, Mr. Arc it seem I underestimated your intelligence. I will not call in Martial law.
Jaune: No-no. Keep it in mind.
Nora: SAY WHAT?! I THOUGHT YOU WERE TRYING TO AVOID IT!!
Jaune: I am. But Robyn could still cause trouble for us down the road. We need to be ready when she could take things too far.
Nora: But-
Ironwood: It’s only if she continues to be an obstacle.
Nora: *silent*
Ironwood: Alright. Everyone back to work. Keep an eye out for Tyrian. And if you learn anything you report to me immediately.
Ace-ops: Yes sir.
Ren: Yes sir.
*JNPR Dorm Room*
Nora: Jaune, I can’t believe you sided with Ironwood.
Ren: Nora, it is a constitutions plan. It’s not going to happen.
Nora: I’m just saying the people of Mantle are already having a hard time.
Ren: I understand but-
Nora: But what? That getting Amity Arena up is more important than helping the people.
Ren: What about the world? What about all of Remnant?
Nora: How can help the world if we can’t help a country?!
Ren: We can’t always focus on the small things Nora. We need to consider the bigger picture.
Nora: So after all we’ve been through before you want to throw that away?
Ren That not what I’m saying. I-
Jaune: ENOUGH!!
Jaune: Please. Stop arguing.
Ren: Jaune, look I want to say-
Jaune: Stop. Sit. Both of you.
Nara and Ren: *sit separately from each other*
Jaune: Look, Nora, I understand. I know Mantle going through hard times. Due to the trading routes and transportation being limited, people are starting to struggle to get in and out of city. Stores and companies are closed so people are having trouble finding work. And without work, they can’t make money. And without money they can’t pay rent nor provide for their families. Basically majority of those people might as well not have homes soon.
Nora: Then you know why Martial law can’t happen. It will make things worse.
Jaune: Yes. That is why I would rather keep it as a last resort. However, with Mantle’s lack of funding and resources, I almost can’t blame Robyn for what’s she’s doing. However, two wrongs don’t make a right.
Nora: Hmm.
Ren: Well said Jaune.
Jaune: And you. Don’t think I’m openly siding with Ironwood. I only did that because I need everyone on the same page.
Ren: Jaune.
Jaune: At Beacon, Amber, Ozpin and Pyrrha died. Then the world got divide. Mistral, we almost died.
Nora: We survived.
Jaune: Through the skin of our teeth Nora! We got lucky! And Hazel, Emerald and Mercury stilled escaped!
Nora: *hates when he’s right*
Jaune: Now Tyrian is here. And even if my theory on Watts is correct, we still don’t know what they’re up to. Not to mention, we’re keeping secrets too. Especially, about Salem., who may have sent them here to retrieve the lamp. And worse, kill Oscar.
Nora and Ren: … … …
Jaune: Look… … Basically what I’m saying we need to be careful. We are no longer students. We are hunters. Every move we make could jeopardize what we are trying to accomplish. Even the people we trust could be a problem if we’re not careful.
Nora: So you don’t trust Ruby?
Jaune: Yeah. But keeping these secrets could get us in trouble, or most likely, have a gun to our heads. And Ironwood has plenty of them compared to us.
Ren: So what should we do?
Jaune: We do what we started this journey for. We search for answers.

I haven’t seen the film, how did watts survive dying of smoke inhalation and burning to death?
Short answer: he didn't, not in body.
Longer answer: Watts picked up a trick or two from Kilgore during part 1, namely how to upload his consciousness and transfer it elsewhere. That allowed him to cheat death when his original body died. If it was explained how he transferred himself between Remnant and DC Earth that went over the top of my head.
It's not really explained how Watts recreated at least his physical head on DC Earth, but he's certainly got plenty of scientific secrets that might explain that he could, although not exactly the method he used.
Not everything is explained in the movie, like how Cyborg managed to call Weiss on her scroll, or how the portal to Remnant was opened for team RWBY. I get the feeling that if they'd gone into detail that might explain it then it'd take up too much of the movie time, so there's some hand waving going on to skip over the science/magic.

RWBY COMBAT ANALYSIS: ARTHUR WATTS
Tumblr media
“You think you're entitled to everything just because you've suffered, but suffering isn't enough! You can't just be strong, you have to be smart! You can't just be deserving, you have to be worthy! But all you have ever been, is a bloody migraine!”
PHYSICAL
Hailing from the Kingdom of Atlas, Dr. Arthur Watts was a middle-aged human male, likely in his late 40s to early 50s when he died two years after the Fall of Beacon.  A brilliant scientist and engineer, Watts made a name for himself early on in service to the Atlas Military, known to have directly contributed to Pietro Polendina’s P.E.N.N.Y. Project and the environmental grid in Mantle, while his personal connections ranged from Atlas commander-in-chief James Ironwood to SDC chairman Jacques Schnee.  However, Watts’ considerable intellect and social status was matched and exceeded by his ego, interpreting James Ironwood’s favoring of Polendina over himself as taking his intelligence for granted.  Though the exact details have not been confirmed, Watts would eventually fall in with the immortal sorceress Salem, who offered him the means to use his genius to tear down Ironwood’s ivory tower.  Faking his death in an incident with the Atlesian Paladins several years before the Fall of Beacon, after which he pledged his allegiance to the Grimm queen.  As a leading member of Salem’s inner circle, Watts contributed greatly to his new master’s plans as her primary spymaster, developing the Black Queen computer virus and directly facilitating corruption in Mistral and Atlas, though his antagonistic relationship with Cinder Fall would ultimately prove to be his undoing.
As far as athletic feats are concerned, Watts has fairly little to draw on.  He was a schemer first and foremost, not a marital enforcer like the bulk of Salem’s other lieutenants, and was not observed in combat very often.  However, this lack of emphasis did not translate into inability, and Watts has proven himself to be quite capable when the need arises.  Standing at 6 feet exactly, Watts’ slender build was one of his most noticeable traits, alongside his graying black hair and mustache, green eyes, and tanned skin.  In his confrontation with James Ironwood at Amity Colosseum, Watts was able to traverse the Anti-Gravity biome with nimble parkour while evading the general with deft rolls and sidesteps, demonstrating a respectable degree of agility despite his age.  Thought he favored simple punches and pistol whips in close quarters, his quick trigger speed and skillful handling of his rings’ functions indicated his polished dexterity.  However, while being overpowered by a cybernetic juggernaut like Ironwood is not an automatic sign of weakness, Watts’ strength was decidedly middling, forcing him to adopt a more skill-based approach to combat.  That being said, he was still able to stagger Ironwood with his pistol whips, and even managed to maintain a grappling contest with the general at the end of the battle, so he certainly wasn’t completely lacking in terms of strength; it was merely his least developed attribute.
Tumblr media
As far as resiliency was concerned, Watts’s lack of muscle mass translated to a fairly low constitution, his defeat at Amity coming from his being beaten into submission by Ironwood, the resulting black eye marring his face for his final days.  However, it is worth noting that this final injury only happened after the protracted battle with Ironwood, during which he was regularly on the move, soaked up several brutal blows and gunshots that broke his Aura, and he still had enough energy to engage in one last fist fight before being subdued.  For me, Watt’s drawn-out shootout with Ironwood, the breaking of his Aura, the subsequent beating, and his maintained composure throughout, indicated a solid degree of stamina and discipline.  Despite his area of focus being far from the battlefield, Watts has demonstrated a truly immaculate amount of calm under fire, keeping his cool even when confronted by overwhelming force.  However, while Watts’s ego made him genuinely fearless, perfectly willing to roast Cinder Fall even as she held him off the edge of a building, he was still mortal.  His unrestrained mockery of Cinder was more than enough to motivate her to spitefully kill him, leaving him to burn to death in the collapsing rubble of Atlas.
Due to his preference for a low profile, as well as his fighting style emphasizing mobility over protection, Watts eschewed combat garb when in the field. Instead, he wore everyday clothing wherever he went, though he still favored a fashionable aesthetic to mesh with his high-class attitude.  During his service to Salem, his day-to-day wardrobe consisted of a charcoal grey suit, yellow dress shirt, and maroon vest, with fingerless gloves and cordovan shoes; the fashion of the day and practical clothing that did not restrict his movement.
RANKING: Tier 4, High Human Fitness
Tumblr media
While he has demonstrated respectable and polished agility and stamina, more than sufficient to enable his combat skill, Watts is an otherwise unimpressive athletic specimen and cannot handle serious strain.  He has never overcome any challenge on the back of physical ability, and his success is predicated on skill and power.  To be fair, this is understandable, as Watt’s specialty is in covert ops and science, meaning that he is not operating with a heavy combative focus in any case.  Much like Roman Torchwick, Watts still keeps on top of his training, and can still hold his own if he has to fight.  He cannot hope to win on the back of physical ability, but he can still contend with his opponents where and when it matters.
MARTIAL
Tumblr media
Arthur Watts utilized a 20-shot double-barreled revolver as his primary weapon.  Scaled to his height, the pistol appeared to be about 12 inches long, 3 ½ inches thick, and featured a double-action mechanism, though Watts has been seen manually cocking the hammer back as well. The gun was primarily composed of standard blued steel for the cylinder and barrels while, the handgrip, frame and hammer were bronze, with an ornate vine pattern coiled around the barrels.  The weapon could be loaded with both standard ammunition and special Dust rounds, Watts preferring to load his with fire, ice, and electric bullets, while the action allowed for either single or double shots with a flick of a switch.  Overall, an ornate yet effective weapon for self-defense, perfect for a spy and infiltrator.
When examining his combative capabilities, the first thing that must be understood about Arthur Watts was that he was not a dedicated martial artist.  Where the rest of Salem’s inner circle was composed of warriors, assassins, and enforcers, attacking the Grimm queen’s enemies directly, Watts served primarily as a spy, infiltrator, and scientist, applying his intellect in the creation of various mundane tools to further Salem’s objectives.  Espionage and technology were his areas of expertise, not fighting.  As such, he was rarely on the battlefield, instead working to undermine Salem’s enemies through manipulation and sabotage, weather by facilitating corruption and distrust among populace or attacking infrastructure with his patented Black Queen Virus.  Regardless, the nature of his role meant that combat was always a possibility, and he was perfectly capable of defending himself if need be.  Befitting his chosen weapon, Watts’ primary specialization was in marksmanship, capable of landing precise killshots on both static and moving targets.  While he favored normal bullets, Watts showed particular skill at leveraging Dust rounds as well, able to encase Ironwood’s leg in a well-placed block of ice during their battle.  When needed, his trigger speed was sufficient to keep his adversaries on their toes with sudden bursts of gunfire, forcing evasions or targeting larger groups.  Watts supplemented his marksmanship with skill in hand-to-hand combat, striking his opponents with swift, focused punches and being perfectly willing to use his pistol as a close quarters bludgeon.  But more than anything else, Watts heavily leveraged his technological prowess to improve his tactical viability, using his rings’ hard light Dust shields as the basis for his defensive component while he whittled away at assailants.  Additionally, Watts was likely familiar with various conventional weapons and tools, casually appropriating an Atlesian assault rife during the infiltration of the command bunker.

As a tactician and strategist, Watts was arguably the most cunning member of Salem’s inner circle, though the bulk of his intelligence was directed at the big picture and his experiments rather than battle.  He was very much a grand scale strategist, studying his opponents and the situation over long periods of time and setting up a plan to neutralize their strengths and expose their weaknesses.  His Black Queen virus was easily the greatest demonstration of this, taking over the Atlas military technology and turning it against Beacon’s defenders, escalating the chaos and turning the Fall of Beacon into a meatgrinder. He enjoyed similar success when stirring up anti-Atlas sentiment in Mantle, rigging the Schnee v. Hill election, orchestrating Tyrian Callows’ string of murders, and eventually disabling the heating grid, exacerbating the already tense relationship between the two cities.  Additionally, despite his massive ego, Watts was ultimately a pragmatic planner who sought the quickest and most efficient means of victory.  In the leadup to the battle of Haven, Watts argued the viability of quietly infiltrating the school to steal the Relic of Knowledge and avoiding an engagement with Qrow Branwen’s party.  Though this point was shot down by Cinder Fall’s thirst for vengeance, it does point to the doctor’s emphasis on achieving the greatest result with the least effort; why use a longsword when a dagger will suffice?  However, while Watts was far more reactive when it came to single combat, resigning himself to the needs of the moment and using his weapon primarily for defense, his intelligence still shone through in his methodical war of attrition.  He would regularly give ground, baiting his opponents into chasing after him while he chipped away at them form a distance.  Watts was very aware that he was poorly suited for direct contests of strength, both for his light build and his limited ammunition, so he took special care to pace himself, counting his shots and remaining cautious of his surroundings.  If he found himself trapped or low on ammo, he would work to draw the opponent in so he could manipulate and entrap them.  For all his cunning though, Watts was undercut by his pride and envy, his supreme self-confidence leading him to underestimate his opponents’ resolve.  Combined with his general inexperience in combat, Watts was himself vulnerable to ambushes and traps, especially from particularly ruthless opponents.
Watts’ strengths and weaknesses as a martial combatant were best expressed in the one significant combat feat we have for him: his duel with James Ironwood at Amity Colosseum.  Though he had successfully undermined Mantle’s defenses, using Jacques Schnee’s login information to disable the heating grid and lock out attempts to reboot, Schnee’s arrest and the subsequent political alliance of Ironwood and Robyn Hill was able to temporarily repair the bulk of the damage, while the leaking of Ironwood’s Amity project allowed the general to draw the doctor into the open.  Despite being caught completely off guard, Watts quickly took the initiative, influencing the arena’s technology to activate the Anti-Gravity biome.  He immediately resorted to a roaming tactical retreat, free running through the arena and forcing Ironwood to chase after him, manipulating the arena’s gravity Dust to batter him every step of the way while using his rings’ shields to defend himself.  Even when Ironwood gained ground, manhandling Watts with unarmed combat and cornering him against a wall, Watts escaped and continued to wear him down, disarming the general of one of his pistols and trapping his leg in a block of ice.  Ironwood ultimately had to resort to overwhelming force to subdue his adversary, slamming Watts into the floor before tackling him off the platforms to the main arena.  In the ensuing fist fight, Watts ran out of ammo and was backed into a corner, yet he once again turned the tables be feigning defeat, getting Ironwood to lower his guard before snaring his arm in his rings.  Unfortunately, Watts’ victory was short-lived, as Ironwood forcibly broke through the trap and brutally slammed Watts into the ground. While Watts could be excuse for assuming the victory, as Ironwood’s escape was owed entirely to his sheer bloody ruthlessness, turning your back on an enemy is NEVER a good tactical move. This would not be the last time Watts would underestimate an adversary, nor the costliest.  When Cinder Fall attempted to threaten him into following her, Watts laughed it off and proceeded to verbally tear her apart for her string of blunders.  While justified in his critiques, as well as demonstrating his virtual immunity to intimidation tactics, Cinder Fall never ignores a slight, and Watts was thoroughly unprepared for when she left him to burn.
RANKING: Tier 4, Advanced Application
Tumblr media
Watts’ tactical brilliance and deceptively lethal weaponry makes him a surprisingly dangerous opponent, but he is held back by his lack of skill as a martial artist.  His viability is determined by a pre-planned and methodical approach, and while this makes him very tricky to engage, his inexperience in combat means that he is also easy to sucker if faced by superior skill or power.  That being said, Watts deserves a great deal of credit for what he was able to accomplish despite his lack of enthusiasm.  Though arrogant, he was wise enough to recognize his strengths and weakness and compensate accordingly, expertly using his skill set to capitalize on his own attributes and exploit the opponent’s.  Regardless of dedication, he was still able to engage one of the most accomplished Huntsmen of his day in combat and very nearly came out on top. He may have lacked power, but his treacherous nuance still makes him a force to be reckoned with.
SPECIAL
Tumblr media
Arthur Watts never discovered his Semblance, likely developing his Aura strictly out of necessity.  Instead of unlocking his natural powers, Watts placed his faith in mundane gadgets and technology, the closest thing he had to special abilities coming from his set of cybernetic rings.  Custom made, each of the eight rings consisted of a bronze body with an LED panel around the center, the latter glowing with blue light upon activation.  The rings were essentially handheld computer terminals that allowed Watts to interface with just about every technological object he came across provided he possessed access codes to influence them.  Simply by sending out pulses of code, he was able to put roadblocks and streetlamps in Mantle on the fritz, causing traffic accidents and small explosions.  Watts’ rings were at their most powerful when he filtered them through the collection of Scrolls he carried, bolstering his fine control and magnitude of influence.  In keeping with his strategy of subversion and fear, Watts used his rings’ properties with the goal of spreading confusion and panic by manipulating everyday tech to turn against the common man.  His control was put on horrific display when he choreographed Tyrian Callows’ massacre at Robyn Hill’s campaign rally while doctoring the security footage and lights to make it appear that Penny Polendina was responsible, and his magnitude was demonstrated when he deactivated the Mantle heating grid, exposing the city to freezing temperatures and a subsequent Grimm incursion.  That being said, his most impressive feats required outside data and amplifiers to make them workable, his crippling of Mantle explicitly owed to the credentials he obtained from Jacques Schnee and his own familiarity with the system he himself created.  Though separate from his rings, his most notorious sabotage efforts with the Black Queen virus followed similar patterns, his infection of the Atlesian Air Fleet during the Vytal Festival easily being the greatest demonstration of Watts’ ability to control situations on a grand scale.
Despite this overwhelming emphasis on larger strategic objectives, Watts’ rings were not strictly armchair general’s devices that only worked for computers.  He was in fact quite a capable ethereal combatant and has leveraged technology in combat to great effect.  The interface ability afforded Watts a great deal of control over surrounding technology, allowing him to influence his environment to trip up and subvert his adversaries.  It was this ability that was arguably his greatest weapon against Ironwood, messing with the gravity Dust projectors to trip up the general and slam him into the platforms and notably triggering a geyser to erupt under Ironwood’s feet.  However, his most readily available tools were the samples of the hard-light Dust built into the rings.  One of the rarest and most expensive forms of synthetic Dust, the hard-light variety has been used primarily for solid constructs and shields, and Watts’ rings were no exception.  Boasting an area of roughly a square foot, the shields projected by the rings were strong enough to block direct hits from conventional firearms, and though it has never been seen doing so, it is very likely that they could withstand Dust rounds as well.  Watts readily leveraged these shields as the basis for his defense, blocking and deflecting Ironwood’s gunfire during their battle even when on the move.  The shields could also be utilized as makeshift platforms strong enough to walk across, Watts notably using this feature to leapfrog across a chasm of the Anti-Gravity biome.  The only limitation was their time limit, as the discs would dissipate after a few seconds, a factor that almost got Ironwood killed when he chased after Watts on his own constructs.  Far more insidious, however, was the rings’ trap function, able to activate a hard-light barrier to encase a specific target, though at the expense of damaging the rings.  It was this application that he used to end the battle with Ironwood, trapping his left arm in the barrier and forcing him to burn off his own skin to escape.
When utilizing his special abilities, Watts’ applications served as a shining example of his emphasis on grand scale manipulations, his strategic outlook focused on manipulating the flow of a situation by influencing the big picture.  Just as his viruses and hacking facilitated anarchy and corruption to further Salem’s plans, his technological manipulations enabled his ability to influence and control the battlefield, stage managing his enemies by brushing off their attacks and manipulating the very ground they stood on.  However, while Watts’ abilities covered his bases and furthered his tactical supremacy, he simply wasn’t a dedicated combative adept, his talents simply existing to cope with and cancel out an opponent’s advantages with a subtle application of his own.  Watts was a subversive spellcaster, not an offensive one, and he lacked the means to leverage his technological prowess as an active from of attack.  The only truly offensive application of Watts’ rings was the bear trap function, and even this amounts to a last-ditch desperation tactic given the need to sacrifice the rings.  Furthermore, just as with his skills in physical combat, Watts could come up short from overwhelming force in the right areas.  Though his shields stopped Ironwood’s bullets, the rounds still penetrated and got stuck, so there is a definite limit to how much punishment they can take.  Even the trap could not hold back the general’s ruthless determination to win, and Watts found himself pummeled for his trouble.  To be fair, Ironwood had to subject himself to a severe injury to escape the trap, so overwhelming the doctor’s tricks is far from easy.
RANKING: Tier 4, Reinforce Combat
Tumblr media
Much like his fighting skills, Watt’s special abilities are well suited for the type of combat he favors and demonstrate the range of his intelligent strategizing, but they lack significant combative advantages.  Most Watts’ greatest feats have been in his grand scale manipulations rather than for single combat, and his strictly combative tools are very straightforward and/or circumstantial.  The rings’ technological interface ability is only viable if there is available technology for him to hack, which he would not have ready access to on neutral ground.  The hard-light shields and platforms are more readily applicable, but their nature as temporary defensive tools means that he lacks the ability to truly pressure his adversaries.  Watts is a very effective tactical operative, but his greatest accomplishments are ultimately reliant on his ability to weaken and undermine the opponent beforehand.  He may be capable of contending with his adversaries when dropped in cold, but he still has his limits.
OVERALL RANKING: TIER 4, EXPERT HUNTSMAN
Tumblr media
With Tier 4 rankings across the board, Arthur Watts qualifies as an Expert Huntsman, a truly impressive ranking given than his areas of expertise are non-combative in nature.  With his lanky and agile body, paramilitary martial training, and guerrilla warfare gadgets, Watts is a highly capable and flexible combative adept, though he lacks the raw power to truly compete with the true upper echelon.  He is comparable to Roman Torchwick in that his combative abilities are secondary to his criminal schemes, but they are still highly developed due to the dangerous nature of his role.  The differences arise in that Watts is far more cautious and secretive, making his greatest contributions through careful planning, secrecy, and covert operations as opposed to simply running a criminal enterprise.  Unconcerned with physical dominance, Watts poured his energies into his intellectual pursuits, instead centering his combat training around self-defense and adaptation.  He trades offensive lethality for tactical viability, at his best when engineering scenarios to weaken his foes off the battlefield so that overcoming them on the battlefield is easier if not unnecessary.  To me, Arthur Watts represents the best that can be achieved on the back of moderate training and little combat experience, coming up with a response to anything even if you’ve never encountered it before. Despite his lack of martial might, Watts’ limitations do not make him inept or a pushover.  On the contrary, he is very much a combative peer of the rest of Salem’s inner circle, and his unique skill configuration and tactics mark him as a far more subtle and dangerous opponent than one would expect.  Where most evil genius warriors are often left scrambling if dropped into a fight cold, Watts’ confrontation with Ironwood proved his ability to form a plan of attack in situ, demonstrating that he can apply his intellect to physical combat as well as an understanding of his own strengths and weaknesses.  Though unbelievably petty and vain, Watts was smart enough to recognize that a situation where he was forced to exhaust his bag of tricks was an eventuality, not a hypothetical, so he focused on drawing out battles to the point where he could find a way to manipulate the situation to his advantage.  Arthur Watts is not above fighting dirty, and he will take every opportunity to bait and dissect you until he finds the perfect opportunity to pull out the rug.  He may not look like much, but underestimating him may just be the greatest mistake of your life.

Had a nuts and volts dream where they were doing a roadtrip with their daughter and stopped at this spooky ghost town and both kinda went, "nah", going back to the car like you know smart people. Watts was carrying their daughter in his arms as tyrian jumped into the backseat as I assume watts was driving baby in the front. But then watts and daughter got grabbed by fucking vampire people! In the middle of the day! And Tyrian ran scrambled out the car after them shouting "No! Please don't hurt him! Don't hurt her! I'll do anything you want I'll kill anyone just don't hurt them!" and the vampires were like good. But kept hold of watts and the daughter to ensure Tyrian did as they said and he was so stressed his tail was flailing I felt awful for him. Unfortunately the dream changed so idk if he got his hubby and daughter back :(
