What makes me sad is that there are very few RWBY crossovers — in general, but in this case specifically — that explore the hilarity of their weapons.
Like. The fandom has gotten so used to it to the point where we’re shocked when the melee weapon isn’t also a gun. We’re desensitized to things like “sniper-rifle-scythe” or “shotgun-gauntlets” or “katana-chain-scythe-handgun.” Non-RWBY characters, even those from an action series, will not be.
Luz Noceda would be alarmed if someone pulled out a seven foot tall sniper-scythe (though she’d fangirl before she’d panic in most circumstances). Percy Jackson will not know how to respond to a gun when he’s been fighting with a sword from antiquity. Adora She-Ra…is probably not gonna react that strongly, actually, but she’s a child soldier who unlocked magical girl powers and is friends with Entrapta, and as such is uniquely suited to cope with the insane bullshittery of RWBY weapons being thrown at her.
I can’t believe it’s been a year already! I remember watching Red vs Blue when I was younger. Then the trailers for RWBY dropped and I was blown away and instantly drawn to the show. I remember watching the episode where Yang awkwardly compliments Blake’s bow. I was watching with a friend at the time and my words to her were. “These two are gonna get together.” I was young and I liked this friend so I also said. “I’ll be Yang and you can be Blake.” So cringe when I think back. But the bees got together! I called it back then and will never forget it. As for my friend, well, we aren’t friends anymore…
Anyway after our beautiful bees finally kissed V9 E6. I went and got tattoos! Haha. I hope to add more RWBY tattoos to both arms as still got space.
You know, Ironwood may have been a fascist dickhead, but the giant ridiculous Glockinator-BFG-9000 monstrosity of a gun will always be one of my favorite weapons.
Like it’d be damn near impossible to aim the thing and it’s extremely front-heavy, but it takes the “It’s also a gun” thing to its logical wraparound conclusion. How do you make a weapon that is already a gun also a gun?
In the immortal words of the Engineer: “Use more gun.”
Was going through old drawings and found a rosegarden child one and wanted to redo the weapon and I’m quite proud of it, I’ll design rosegarden child next but got really into drawing this today and thought I’d share it.
Hope you like it and any feed back is welcome.
I wanted to have the weapon resemble important people in their life. Like Ruby made her weapon resembles qrows, thought I’d put in the speed paint so you can see me struggle and work through multiple ideas
Had a lot of fun and woo! Glad that I’m actually posting art for once XD I have a lot of rosegarden sketches and half done drawings that I need to finish and actually post.
Fun ask: What are your favorite weapons in RWBY and in what order?
This is actually a pretty easy for me. I'll talk about 4 (see what i did there?) in particular from my least favorite up to my favorite.
Ember Celica: One of the few Gauntlet Weapons in the show & in my opinion, it's the best one. First of all, i like the design. A pair of golden bracelets that can turn into bulky, yet cool looking Gauntless that shoot shotgun rifles by THROWING A PUNCH! (well, until V6, but we don't talk about that scene in the end). I think this is a great representation of Yang's personality & it goes well with her Semblance. If she has to use her BODY to take hits, then she'll use her FISTS to deliver even STRONGER hits. It's a pretty good use of the "The best offense is a good defense" trope, which i appreciate. It's also a good way to show how smart Yang is since SHE'S the one who build it, imagine how much time & effort Yang had to put into making this weapon considering how dangerous it actually is?
Ozpin's Cane (which doesn't have a canon name as far as i can remember): Despite it's simple design, i like the way it's used like a rapier most of the time & above all else, the lore & history behind it. As Ozma passed on from host to host, he imbued his life force into the cane so that when the time is right, he'll use its true power... & BOY, did Volume 8 DELIVER on that front.
Crescent Rose: This probably wouldn't been as high as it is now for it not for V9, especially in the last chapter. I definitely LOVE Crescent Rose, it's an incredible design that's iconic. It made a Scythe that's also a Sniper, 2 things that SHOULDN'T work together, ACTUALLY work. But then we go to Volume 9, where it's used as a way to challenge Ruby's idendity, which i LOVE. I can't wait to see what the rest of V9 has in-store for her, especially Casey's recent tweet about next episode being "Edge City"... Oh boi...
Harbinger: This is LITERALLY Ragna The Bloodedge's Weapon, but with a Shotgun feature, how can i NOT love it?! Whenever i see Qrow fight with it, i ALWAYS think to myself that the writers (especially Monty back when he was alive, RIP) played A LOT of fighting games when developing some RWBY characters & their weapons. Look at Penny for example, she's a CLEAR reference & homage to Nu-13 from Blazblue. Can't say i blame them for it, this shit is lit! I also like how the scythe form of Harbinger itself is rarely used in the show, as if it's only used when Qrow is going to fight seriously, which is always hype. It's not as plot thematic as the last 3, but it's definitely the coolest & most fun to watch out of these 4 weapons i mentioned... & Now i want a scene where Qrow & Ragna are shooting the shit in a bar. Someone write a fanfic about that, i'd read it! XD
this team is based on Arthurian legend, so Dewin's inspiration is the wizard Merlin
his semblance is Clairvoyance, granting him a sort of sixth sense for aura, which he amplifies through the crystal on his staff (named Myriad). Dewin is from Vale, with Welsh origin
by the time RWBY & co attend Beacon, DAUC have graduated and function as a Hunter team. these designs are their school days
The first AU I started writing was called "An Extension of Barrels, Magazines, and Ourselves" and it was about various Weapons being able to go from Weapons to people (Like Mythra and Pyra? I think that's their deal?)
The process was called "Awakening." The physical traits depended on what the weapon looked like (As a weapon) and who the were going to be. The kind of person the weapon would be depended on
Who wielded It
2. Did they want someone or Need someone.
3. Who did they want/Need
For example Ruby needed a hero, so Crescent Rose became what Ruby saw as a hero - A somewhat Matronly Lead-Slinger, that refers to everyone as "Miss ____", or whatever they appropriate Gender Title the person would use.
Weiss needed someone fun and refreshing so Myrtenaster was a flirtatious, playful, and generally extended more kindness and gratitude towards people. usually calling them "Sir~, or Madame~" and refered to Weiss as "Mistress~"
Gambol Shroud was a laid-back Stoner type, very much a "Chill out (Gender Neutral) Dude, We just need to take a second to think" Kinda of person. They used She/They/Them. It just shook out like that during Writing.
Yang wanted someone, however, and she got a two-for-one deal!
Ember was a very party girl/valley girl kinda of person. Her and Neon would get along Great until the Top-heavy comments got made. Nobody, And she means No-Body Makes fun of the Boss, y'got her?
Celica, however, was a no-nonsense, direct and, very irritable person. A veritable Mean Right Hook. When the Boss Gives an order, you follow it, a'ight?
(Their Heights in order were CR at 6'5", Myr at 5'4", GS at 5'3", with E&A at 5' foot nothing.)
I wanna return to it at some point, but only after I figure out how to deal with the MASSIVE cast bloat that would come with it, because I'd want to see as many of the weapons as there were.
So like. If you have questions about it, I'd love to answer them. It might give me some inspiration to write a bit more of it.
Also the acronym is AEBMO, which is really fun to say out loud.
Part of being a fan is normally having at least one gripe or pet peeve, right? Like, no matter how much you love something, there tends to be a character you dislike, a NOTP, etc. Even with fandoms of other things — like, I had a very serious Bird Phase and yet did not hate pigeons any less violently for it.
Ruby Rose is canonically a huge weapons nerd. Ergo, I ask you: what weapon does Ruby have an inexplicable grudge against?
My personal theory is she’d hate gauntlets or bracers on principal — Ruby’s bad at hand to hand and, having Yang and Tai as family, is probably never living it down. So Ruby opposes the concept of gauntlets on principal, saying they’re not real weapons.
This absolutely means that at age thirteen, in a heated argument full of rage and spite, Ruby called Ember Celica stupid to Yang’s face.
(Probably apologized immediately and fervently, but said it nonetheless. I’m sure insulting a weapon someone forged themself to their face actually does hurt a little.)
It’s a hydra musket with an ejectable blade and scope.
He carries it on a strap around his torso and positioned on his back.
It uses dust bullets and a dust engaged blade, and can let off powerful blasts, perfect for blowing things apart for him to use his semblance on or blowing entrances into things.
