RykyArt Dragon Tutorial in my style Materials: Strathmore Toned Tan Sketch paper, Crayola Erasable Colored Pencils, Gray Markers, Pilot Frixion Pen (signature) Got some #Smaugust Dragon work in with a DeviantArt tutorial practice recommended through the 21 year celebration. I believe my first introduction to dragons must have been through Disney with Figment, the purple dragon from Epcot, and the Maleficent transformation. #datutorialdragon #coloredpencils #markers #rykyArt https://www.instagram.com/p/CS0R8stH4cv/?utm_medium=tumblr

This is a repaint of a photo I took at Ta-taki falls not too long ago. It took 8 solid hours in #affinityphoto so here, have my waterfall warlock/wizard/mage/sorcerer person. My ever constant artist inspiration comes from @rykyart all of his work is so stunning and hopefully, with time, I can be as good as he is 🖤 #digitalart #waterfall #magic #witch #fantasy #redbubble #wizard #worldofwarcraft #dungeonsanddragons https://www.instagram.com/p/BqLfbNuhgzD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=i3fil8c7tsi9

3 ARTISTS
in our most recent lectures: we were finally talked through our brief.
After reading through it, myself - and gaining an understanding of what is being asked of us, I set out to find inspiration - through research, in various subjects.
our first stage of this is to create a 3x3 grid, with a photograph to represent some of our inspirations, from different fields.
- 3 artists
- 3 designers
- 3 writers
over the next few blog posts, I'm going to explain my choices - with pictures that support what would be a 3x3 grid: as it will allow you to gain a further understanding of not only the type of work I'm interested in, but more importantly why I find it interesting.
the format of these blog posts are as follows: I will show an example of the (artist’s) work, a title, and finish with my thoughts following them - and the sort of ideas i want to incorporate after looking at their work.
VINCENT VAN GOPH:
a very well-known painting, from a very well-known artist.
sorry to be that guy who chooses ‘Vincent Van Goph’ for an artist assignment: but there’s a reason he’s so well known.
his art is brilliant.
The abstract way Van-Goph paints the sky, is one of, if not the most identifiable feature that makes this piece so widely recognisable.
I especially enjoy the way Van Goph contorts the landscape using a combination of lines, and mark making through the brush-strokes - it leaves a visually appealing impression, on the observer.
I’ve always had a fascination with things that are unknown.
space has always, and will always be subject that I'm both a combination of fearful of, and have a genuine curiosity for learning about.
‘The Starry Night’ painting has always had a very inter-cosmic, celestial vibe to it, in my opinion.
Something about the way the colours compliment one another, despite not being blended together fully, with very clear borders between each of them - creates a very unique and refreshing take on an otherwise quite uninteresting, and ordinary landscape.
i think this combination of pretty dulled down colours, mismatching with vibrancy is a feature id like to incorporate in my work? as well as maybe heading down a more galactic approach to the brief.
GEORGE CALLAGHAN
Callaghan has a talent for creating beautiful images of vert fantastical-looking landscapes.
I have an immense respect for the way he is able to create 2D images, that have components of shading that give off a three-dimensional quality to them.
this 2D-3D looking hybrid is one of the major factors that nudged me towards his work, during my research.
the quality I'm most fascinated with in his work; is the way he chose his colour scheme. He uses such soft, pastel colours - that create a very tranquil and calm, yet magical looking environment.
perhaps i can use Maya’s lighting components to create a render that matches this sort of quality?
i hope to be able to create an outcome that people enjoy looking at, with as much fascination as i feel looking at Callaghan’s work.
RYKY
a lot less traditional than my other two choices: Ryky is a currently unnamed artist’s online persona - who’s work is very surreal, and i encourage you to check them out, using the links to their profiles - I’ve provided below!

i absolutely adore the vibrant use of colour in Ryky’s work - and the sense of adventure their work connotes.
their work is very digital, but they have a lack of character definition, when compared to the lighting and terrain - this particular focus on the scenery, and lighting in the composition - compared to the characters and story, is something i think is brilliant about this piece, in particular - hence why i chose it, out of all of Ryky’s many pieces.
this is the sort of ideology that i want to incorporate from their work.
